Engagement and wedding ring inspiration 6 years ago my husband proposed amongst the spring flowers in one of my favourite gardens. It was completely unexpected….although the nervous hand twitching and rubbing of his inside coat pocket were a little suspect :) However what came out of said pocket was a complete surprise. Delicate flowers and a twisted fine bark inspired band by @alexmonroejewellery A beautiful ring in a beautiful setting. I went with the Fine Twisted Vine Seruni Ring by @alexmonroejewellery for a wedding band - something elegant and different to the norm. Every piece of jewellery I wore on our wedding day had a sentimental value as I’m sure most brides choose to do. I wore a jade bracelet owned my grandmother (a-má). It was nice to have a part of her with me. I’ve also had a few brides ask for their treasured items to be sewn on to their wedding garter. From rings, charms and even a handkerchief! Years ago, Sami’s credit card details were stolen and whoever did this made a series of jewel purchases in India. Occasionally I ask Sami where my jewels are, and - like the Emma Thompson storyline in Love Actually - given that I don’t have them, someone else must and therefore WHO THE HELL IS SHE?

That, aside, I wanted to share with those of you inclined towards these things, the work of English jeweller Alex Monroe. For years I thought he was a lady Alex, but no! I can confirm that he is a man. From his website:

“Alex grew up in the countryside, in the wilds of Suffolk in a big old house surrounded by nature. He lived a life of adventure in rivers and forests, roaming freely in nature’s playground.

In the years to come, this idyllic but eccentric childhood would shape Alex’s jewellery. His love for the natural world continues to provide an inspiration. A fondness for the eccentricities of Englishness provides a touch of humour and nostalgia. A fascination with the intricacies of making things ensures superb craftsmanship.”

Sami gave me the asparagus necklace above for my birthday two years ago. My other favourites are the peapod, the pomegranate and the teeny tiny bumblebee.
