Feeling like a missing puzzle piece - always a part of the whole, useless on its own, when it's separated from the rest. stuff about young alex is so interesting to me because it highlights how he really did come out of nowhere. he talks about all these guys who whooped his ass and whatever- ethan, seb gorzny, jerry- and it’s all people ranked lower than him, some of which by miles!

he talks about how crazy it is that “some of these guys are ranked in the 400s to 100s in the world,” and he’s “nowhere near the top of the game.” and then months later he’s top 100. a year and a half on, and he’s 33 in the world.

college was the goal, college was always the goal, until it wasn’t. it’s just insane to me, especially after having seen him in person, that he clearly wants way more and is working for it, when he could still be grinding it out on the challenger tour. hell, he could be in athens, georgia, in his sophomore year, playing in college.
