it’s wild to me that like every modern adaptation of Sherlock Holmes (and by modern I mean “made recently” not “set in modern times”) is like Hell Bent on coming up with a Reason™️ that Watson stays with Holmes and trots around with him on adventures all the time despite the inconvenience and the danger and all, and so it’s like “oh, Watson’s a gambling addict, he loves uncertainty and mystery” or “oh, Watson’s an adrenaline junkie, he gets off on being constantly in danger from criminals” or even like “Watson’s atoning for sins of the past of BEING IN THE WAR by solving crimes with Holmes now” or WHATEVER. And it’s like, girl, maybe he’s just in love! Did you think of that?? Maybe he’s got a crush and it’s making him do stupid things. Some more thoughts about Jason Todd and why, while funny, all the headcanons about “x kills the Joker for Jason instead” (Usually some variation of Dick, Talia, Ra’s, or even Jason himself) are completely missing the point of UTRH.

No disrespect to anyone with this post, it’s just that Jason would not suddenly let go of his bitterness if someone else killed the Joker. It just wouldn’t happen.

The Jason-Bruce-Joker conflict will never have a satisfying resolution for Jason, even without taking DC’s opinions of the Joker into consideration because Bruce unintentionally set up a situation in which he must choose between a promise he made as a child in the wake of his parents’ death (his no-kill code) and an unspoken promise he made to Jason before his death.

For context, the “unspoken promise” comes from Batman #425, in which Felipe Garzonas’s father seeks revenge against Jason for his son’s death. In this issue, Bruce explains to Jason why the confrontation happened, and states that “For every action in this universe, there is an opposite and equal reaction. Consequences, Robin. There’s no escaping them.”

He even refers to Garzonas Sr’s actions as “a father’s righteous fury”. It’s not hard to see how a teenager would take this to mean that the natural consequence for killing a son is a father seeking vengeance.

This, combined with the discovery that not only had he died, but that his killer was still alive to brutalize and kill many more, paints a clear picture to Jason. That being, essentially: If Bruce refused to avenge Jason, then Bruce does not consider Jason his son.

Following that line of thought, Jason sets up a choice for Bruce:

Option 1: Allow me to end this clown, turn a blind eye, and prove to me that I’m your son, your family.

Option 2: Save him, and you prove to me that I was never your son, and you don’t care about me like you claimed you did.

With these options, Jason does account for Bruce’s unwillingness to kill with his own hands (more on that in a sec), and offers him an option that allows him to keep both promises, while also ending the terror the Joker continues to inflict then and there.

However, Bruce, unable to reconcile his view of Jason, the killer with his view of Jason, his son (combined with the pressure of Jason about to pull the trigger), breaks this unspoken promise and the kicker is that, in doing so, he breaks the other one as well. Jason’s throat is slit, he bleeds out, and is revived once again as seen by the same visual effects appearing both after he collapses and when he’s revived in his grave. The son dies by the father’s hand, and Batman has taken a life.

This is why it can’t be anyone else. At least, not if the goal is to make Jason happy. The Jason-Bruce-Joker conflict exists as a (very important, in my opinion) moral impasse where Bruce wants Jason, the son but can’t bring himself to look past Jason, the killer — while having also established the mindset that led to the conflict to begin with.

Still thinking about the DATV banter where Bellara gets upset at Taash because the Lords of Fortune loot elven ruins but then because we're not allowed to have interpersonal conflict or character flaws in this game five seconds later Taash assures her that they have "the Keeper from the Dalish clan" appraise artifacts and return them to their rightful owners, as if it's not bizarre to claim that ONE guy from ONE clan could know every single ancient elven artifact and who its rightful owners are and how to return it to them. Not to mention they don't even bother giving this Dalish clan a name or location! He's just from "THE Dalish Clan!"

To solve your eggman problems why not just have him never be in direct contact with the master emerald, and when ever he uses its power it’s through a device he’s built? The laws of the sonic world would be able to support him outsmarting the emerald so no one would question it! :)

For one, even if Eggman was somehow able to outsmart the Master Emerald by bypassing Knuckles and syphoning power out of the Master Emerald without directly interacting with it, the Master Emerald wasn't born yesterday. Its a powerful entity described as having deity like powers. There is no way the Master Emerald could not tell that its power was being syphoned, or where exactly it was being syphoned to. The Emerald would simply follow the source, stop Eggman from abusing its power ether by killing him or by trapping him within itself, and then return to angel island.

And another thing, Eggman doesn't even have to interact with the Master Emerald directly to warrant a reaction from it. Eggman is seeking out the chaos emeralds for the soul purpose of abusing their powers for evil. Something that the master emerald is VERY against people doing as seen when it allowed the knuckles tribe, including women and children, to be massacred for their warmongering.

This is to say, the moment Eggman got his hands on a chaos emerald and used it to power any kind of weapon, by SEGA's OWN LORE, the Master Emerald would be furious. And there's no way it wouldn't step in especially when Eggman used his death egg to blow up the moon.

Even if Eggman didn't interact with the Master Emerald and just went after the Chaos emeralds, the Master Emerald would still have the knowledge of what he's doing, and the motive and power to stop him how ever it deems necessary.

I even considered, what is Eggman WASN'T after the Chaos Emeralds for some reason? No chaos power means he so little of a threat that the Master Emerald doesn't intervene. Which doesn't work either, but is more plausible.

Well then that means Sonic could easy obliterate absolutely anything Eggman builds. As Sonic has the ability to go super and nothing Eggman could ever build could match the power of chaos energy, unless he bult something using Chaos energy too. But if he uses a chaos emerald to match Sonics strength and kill him, then the Master Emerald will take notice and obliterate Eggman.

No matter which way you spin it, SEGA was just eating actual cardboard when writing the lore of the Master Emerald and is too ashamed to admit it.💔💔

the way Edwin's immediate reaction upon seeing the misery wraith in the Devlin house is to grab Crystal and cover her mouth, even while he's explaining (apparently calmly) that it hunts by sensing negativity and pain - presumably instead of using sight or sound

and the way that he does the exact same thing to Charles when they're reunited in Hell, but here he urges him specifically to be quiet (in what must be the most barely audible line of dialogue in the whole show) because he's found that's the only way he can get a short reprieve between bouts of torture from the spider thing (to the point that when he ran into Simon earlier he - rather nonsensically - believed the sound of tearing paper behind a closed door was also a big risk)

All I'm saying is, it doesn't look like it was actually all that important he stop Crystal from making noise in the Devlin house, and as much as that scene originally read as Edwin kinda having his shit together while Charles & Crystal were both more affected & then literally incapacitated, his head couldn't have been half as clear as it first seemed if his immediate reaction was reverting to Surviving Hell Tactics even when they weren't really helpful or applicable here

On a semi related note the more I am subjected to Microsoft products the more I become convinced that the reason so many people these days believe themselves to be “bad with computers” is that the programs they are forced to use in their professional life are utterly incomprehensible to ANY rational human being and they are (rightfully enough) extrapolating out that this is just how computers are. They aren't!!! In their quest to remove all the “scary” details from their poor fragile end users Microsoft have created an ecosystem that behaves completely erratically and unpredictably and is by definition unknowable. Things just happen. Then they stop happening. Nothing ever announces why or how. Just a thousand vague and useless popups that may or may not be there tomorrow. I PROMISE computers are actually extremely simple and logical beasts.
