SIGHHHHHH today was certainly a day I guess. like it started off great…? I got sudden surge of wanting to improve and it was alright. liked the few figure stuff I did in the beginning…

—it started off STROVG!!! like look my first page of figures and the legs.,,. way better than I usually draw it. cuz I was paying special attention to them and was proud of it.,,

—I lol also did try to lmaooo do rib cage studies but gave up after a bit and the bit of the guy torso in the page was me following YouTube video. thee one I said that I found and was excited to follow in the future since it’s what I was looking for and welllll. I think I jumped the gun there. I do like the way they drew ribcage and the way their method of drawing felt like it was 3D but idk how to explain it when I followed it but like…? yeah idk how to explain but I do think I got something from it I guess.

—I also tried hands too but yeahhh my god hands r just too much. 😔 I need to practice them…….

—-and ehhhh the second page idk what happened but it felt like it wasn’t going well again but I did like the lil character interaction figures I did though so after a bit just gave up on that.

—-juv time!!!!!!!!! I wanted to draw her and so I did and that doodles of her face really and I do like how some of these turned out and I was just also seeing diff brushes and stuff…

—AND SO I WENT TO DRAW HER…. picked a ref that I thought would be perfect pose for her and that’s when things started to fall apart…. 😐

—I didn’t like it at all 😭😭😭like I just didn’t now what it was??? yeah I knew the pose was iffy but I think it had to do with her face or whatever and well as you can see I went back later to redraw it and lol I think I butchered the pose a bit again but anyways I think I got the face a little better? Since I kind of like it better but ehhhh still wasn’t satisfied also. I wasn’t sure as to what outfit to put her in either but just remembered this one cover where she wore that kind of outfit or similar from what I remember and just put her in that….

-anyways it did really bother me how i just couldn’t get her right so i did some more practices focusing on that… i was cooking something at the time and so ahaha i didn’t want to bring my iPad down and lol as you can see on the paper there’s stains of oil fjjfjfjfk. and honestly?! I don’t think im satisfied with this session at all… I mean some of them turned out great but ahhhh so annoyed I can’t reproduce it. i also tried changing her nose a bit here n there and mmmmh don’t know if I like it.

—well after that I just wanted to draw her to see if I got it and just to draw. and welllll. I certainly need to work on sittibg poses cuz wtf this was hard also ahaha I wanted to adjust the pose of ref so she’s leaning on her hand and lollll that was hard like I had a feeling of knowing what I was doing wrong but it was somehow hard to get it down?! I even in the end just took a pic of myself in the pose and tried to doodle it in but ahhhh still haven’t got the pose right but at least I think…? I got the gist of it. one big issue was I think the way her legs was that way that’s why it didn’t feel like she was leaning on her hand…. and I do kinda like how the top initial one turned out even if her pose doesn’t make sense. also man I really shouldn’t use this pencil for sketching in the lines… of pose… yeah I realised that a part of why I didn’t feel like I wasn’t getting her right is cuz I wasn’t using this brush. idk what it is but the roughness of it just seems perfect for her but problem is I can’t use it while doing poses since I have tendency to just scribble or to work over my lines and it’s a bad habit that I don’t like since it makes things harder, I feel like but also cba to go to the other brush… since I was just already using this one lol

—freaking heck…. This one…. alright man the pose the one that freaking drained me of everything ahahahah….. alright…. so I wanted to draw more and found this ref that I changed a bit… and my GOD was the hands so freaking hard to get. just look at my struggle below 💀

—honestly it’s a miracle that i managed that turned out actually good…?! im so surprised tbh that the end result wasn’t so bad… but also lololol i think i did have general idea for what the pose was meant to convey but lmao I didn’t do it in a way at all that conveyed it properly and it just doesn’t make sense now lololol. and man I do feel like not using that pencil brush here would have helped a lot more. also im proud of myself too, the way that yeah it was a struggle and annoying but it… didn’t feel so frustrating to point of quitting? more like wow after this I don’t want to do art for another 100 years. im. TIRED

—i mean yeah also I was sooo disspirited. like I thought I was lil better at this ahhhh. I feel like also I was getting lazy at drawing out structure for pelvis which is dangerous habit to fall on since it’s helps to reinforce what’s that and how the legs and whatever work… I think that’s what happened with my arms like I had general idea of what happens with arms/shoulders but because I just drew it out like whatever. yeahhhh things started to fall apart since I didn’t reinforce shit.

—and well yeah. after that I did draw in another juv but ahahah I was so exhausted by this point I just didn’t want to finish it or whatever and gave up on it lololol. exhausted!!!!

—I didn’t think that I would be doing any more art but I should know myself by now and yeah I did some general figure studies. but wow my heart wasn’t in it. also man…… the arms…… 😔😔😔

this is really long so i dont blame you if you dont read this, i just wanted to share some of my thoughts!

i had so much fun coming up with these designs! especially since i wanted to combine the designs of the horses that they chose and my personal headcanons,, and can we just talk how most of them had chosen horses that represent them in some way,,,

im gonna start with pearl: she first had a darker horse but since she accidentally killed it she got herself another one that is gray/white-ish. and since this season she is going through her old skins (having dark emo hair-> white hair last session) i found it so fitting and poetic that she had the horses that she had,,,, so ofc i needed to show that in her design by her having dark and white patches, and also her mane being black and white. also she is a pegasus, and i was thinking of making her an alicorn (kinda fits with the whole teenage supercool oc/skin), but i thought it would be too much,, besides that i added as many crescent shapes as i could on her design(you might notice that i tried to make the transitions between the dark and light patches on her skin be crescent shaped)

gem: i was a bit difficult for me to fit her orange hair with the darker brown colors of her body but i think i made it work. with her i mostly wanted to make her seem cute but formidable, so she has a strong stance, and is holding a shovel(referencing The Square Hole). i made her have little spots on her body->kinda like freckles

grian: i did him first and honestly i mostly blanked out while drawing him lol, his design came pretty forward for me, being a pegasus, the aviator glasses and a cheeky pose.

scar: i actually kinda predicted the whole horse thing weeks ago when i doodle scar as a pony in my sketchbook, and i gave him legit the same design as the horse he picked last session,,, but anyhow for him i added some sunflowers in his mane, and i drew it in braids, cuz i thought it would get in the way of the wheelchair and would be a hazzard, and his tail is braided and tied at the base so it wont get in the way

scott: honestly my least favorite design out of them, i did him last and kinda forgot about him until the last minute. i feel like i had a good concept but i didnt work enough on it so he came out meh,, he kinda looks like a cow, i wanted him to contrast bdubs since they both had a horse with the same design, so i made scott white with brown spots and bdubs brown with white spots

bdubs: i just had a lot of fun with his design, i added his moss cape, his clock and red bandana, and i put a white spot over his eye representing kindoff a parallel to etho, since etho has his signature scar over his eye

etho: i made him look like a wet cat, with his very much overgrown mane and tail, i honestly just wanted to make him look washed up. also i want to mention one more parallel with him and bdubs: bdubs is short and has a short spiky mane and tail, where etho is tall and has a long overgrown mane and tail, with bdubs i wanted to make him look kinda nicely groomed, and etho is just there,, living,,

❁Pearl Fey and Trucy Wright hanging out❁

Today I finished this drawing and honestly, I love it so much! makes sense since I drew most of this with my left (main) hand (used right hand for a good chunk of the sketch to help maintain being somewhat ambidextrous) and, got to use an art medium I haven't used in almost a year, after buying some cheap alcohol markers (cheaper than sharpie's cheap) a few weeks ago.

(rest of post has minor spoilers for AA2-5, mostly AA4-5 but I do mention very minor spoilers for AA2-3)

I've been wanting to draw Pearl for a while, especially after seeing her in the DD DLC case (which is my fave case from DD) but than on the 18th I read this fanfic by Samioli and, it was so cute! It made me want to draw Pearl even more! To clarify this isn't fanart of the fic (idk if I ship Pearl and Trucy but I do see them as childhood bffs) but, I do hc Pearly as lesbian thanks to the fic and, I still wanted to recommend it cuz it's such an amazing fic and, it motivated me to draw Pearly hanging out with Trucy.

okay now back to talking about the drawing XD. I decided to re-design both girl's hair-do's and I'm very glad I did. I like Trucy's canon hair but as mentioned in this post I originally thought her official sprite had a bob, and now that I drew her with a bob I think I might continue doing so! Also I don't think she has an ahoge in canon but, I think it suits her so I will always give her one :3 (Edit, turns out she does have an ahoge and it's even cuter that the one I gave her so in future I will draw her with her canon ahoge)

As for Pearl, I dislike that her model in DD basically is just a taller version of her child sprites in AA2-3, so after making some thumbnails on a different page of hair-do ideas, I decided on a hairstyle that's similar to her canon hair-do but, more interesting imo, especially since I made the braids heart shaped on purpose cuz it references her love of romance (very on the nose, but being on the nose is kinda on brand for AA).

I also had a lot of fun designing these outfits for them both! Trucy's bag is of course a playing card and I picked 8 of diamonds cuz she has a diamond motif in canon and, was adopted by Phoenix when she was 8! Her jeans also have a two patches, one of her first daddy's hat/her hat when she was a child and a bunny, cuz that's magic related and cute lol. Also gave her a bracelet that kinda references Apollo but kinda doesn't, because it's on the wrong arm (didn't want it to crowd the hand holding pose!) and it's sliver because I didn't want to add yellow to the colour pallet :P

Pearl's outfit was loosely inspired by fairy-kei fashion as I feel like Pearl would enjoy Fairy-kei and Yumekawaii but not strictly follow a jfashion style. I also gave Pearl glasses. Not only make her look more unique compared to her canon child design but also, cuz AA doesn't have enough characters with glasses imo and I think they look super cute on her! I did consider giving her heart lenses but, I think that might be over doing the heart motif so I made them round instead :P

I'm not like, an art blog or anything but if anyone is feeling super discouraged as all this ai shit roles through and is maybe thinking 'art is so hard and impossible to achieve without years and years of practice, i might as well use ai because it's the only way to make what I'm envisioning', I made this in like two hours:

I'm not an artist and you can probably see that. Pretty much all art I have done is either done by my brother or commissioned. I have 0 art training, I don't draw on the regular, last time I seriously drew was probably a couple of years ago. And I did this in two hours. I looked up a bunch of things, used plenty references, googled stuff like 'pose references' and 'how to draw boots' and here is the result. Just like, don't be discouraged, art is not some mystic skill only a chosen few can master. All I needed to draw this can be found in any store that sells school supplies and some time and effort. You got this, I love you, never give in to the easier path.

And now me rambling about the process under cut cuz I had a bunch of fun!

So this is a drawing of one of my dnd characters. She's an eladrin (fairy flavored elf for the uninitiated) and her original class was barbarian but I'm going to reclass her into a druid next time I play her because I decided it fit her backstory more.

Here's her initial design from like two years ago

The concept was 'barbarian but she's a magical girl lol' and a darker color scheme prevailed because I was trying to fit her into a CoS campaign :I I ended up changing characters hvhnvh. Anyway since I decided to reclass her into a druid and focus on her backstory more, making her a more serious and grounded character, I decided to switch from a lolita inspired style to a mori kei inspired one instead. At least when it came to styling and layering. I decided to leave colors leaning more towards pastel pinks to keep the original hyper fem feeling of the character. I also decided to change her hairstyle from twin tails to twin braids to give her a more mature look reflecting her more thoughtful and reflective rebranding. I kinda wanted to make her braids even longer but uhhh drawing braids is kinda confusing to me but I did my best anyway.

Pose is always the hardest part of drawing for me aaaaa, I'm shit at judging proportions and not nearly passionate enough to try and do that part slowly and precisely so I usually just kinda end up winging it. I also gave up on the legs cuz like...I'll give her a dress anyway :I...have I mentioned I'm not an artist. Her pose doesn't have much to do with her character the way it does in her original picture, I honestly just wanted an easy pose to draw so I can show off hair and outfit. Dynamic poses make drawing clothes a lot harder for me (if u would call the pose in the og pic dynamic...once again I'm not an artist)

Hair and outfit are like my fav parts to do and what I spend the most time on, from looking up references, to trying to get it just right, to making little tweaks and changes to trying to do my best with store bought colors to get the colors just right. The part where her shawl and braid and top of the dress are was the hardest to make sense of and I did my best about it hzbhjbhj hopefully it looks nice. Also the top of her dress was a test bunny for how i wanted to combine brown and beige for her dress and i accidentally used the wrong and stronger shade of brown, hence the top looks different...drawing by hand hard. Also yeah I did change the positioning of one of her legs between pose sketch and outfit sketch...I couldn't figure out how to draw a boot like that.

Here are some outfit references I used! I took elements from all of these (the white bits are supposed to be lace but like...I'm just one girl with a pen).

That's about it :3 I'm very happy with it, she ended up super cute. I honestly surprised myself with how good it looks. It reminded me how much I actually like drawing hair and outfits, I used to do that a bunch back in high school and college. I should play more girls in dnd so I can draw more cute outfits. I can't draw men because if I try to draw a man I will die.

✧ Lunch hangout ✧

Yesterday I finished a marker drawing I have been working on on and off for a week because I felt like drawing a scene rather than characters posing in some ambiguous space XD.

I ended up drawing Kay, Ema, Franziska and Maya all hanging out because I really love the idea of these four being friends and just going to a takeaway restaurant together even though they're all very different from each other. I had a lot of fun drawing this, not only because I designed a fun takeaway space (cuz most takeaway chain restaurants look like sad generic hipster cafes if they've been updated/built in the last 15 years and I was not going to draw that!) but also because I do like how much story telling I was able to convey in this drawing and, I definitely want to try and draw more story telling art this year!

Only things I dislike about this drawing is Ema's outfit, though I think it's mostly the colours throwing me off because, I was avoiding giving her a green outfit, and also avoiding giving her a pink shirt (cuz Maya's shirt is pink) leading to it's current colour palette... maybe the pants bring brown would've saved it? Idk. Still like the design though (it's inspired by mid 2000s fashion because that definitely influenced her aa4 design imo).

But I really like everything else, with Maya putting chips on her burger being my favourite part. Because it's something I did when I used to enjoy fast food and, I definitely feel like Franziska is snobby enough to judge Maya for doing this XD. I also had a lot of fun designing all the outfits, especially Kay and Maya's because their outfits reference game lore relating to them both :3.

Oh and I drew Kay flat cuz I was talking to an aa fan online, and they hc Kay and non-binary and think Kay would totally enjoy being more aerodynamic post top surgery, and while I'm not sure what gender I personally hc Kay as, I do like the idea of Kay getting top surgery regardless of gender and enjoying being more aerodynamic as it makes being a great thief a lot easier! :D

Anyways I hope you all enjoy this drawing, I most likely won't post more stuff in near future, let alone aa fanart, as I have a big thing happening in my personal life next week (if all goes well!) that will unfortunately mean I'll probably not be able to draw much, if at all, over the following weeks.

Furthermore my aa hyperfixation is kinda going away, I think? Still love the franchise, just not as intensely as I have over the past few months so that may affect how often I feel like doing aa fan works. Hope you all understand :-)

Felt bad about Kitty being kinda transphobic last time I drew her interacting with Clem, so I drew redemption.

I still think Kitty would be kind of a bitch, cuz she's a catty preteen/teen. She likes to gossip and bully others. She's mean, but there can be a little sapphic tension between her and Clem. As a treat~

I've also been working on a design for Clem's astral projection. Still in progress. An astral projection using a PSI Portal will look exactly like the psychic projecting, right down to the socks, but an unassisted projection will oftentimes look how the psychic *feels* and is rife with symbolism. I just. Need to get the symbolism right-

I actually really like the idea of wrapping Clem's astral projection in ribbon, as seen in the coloured collage above. I think I just need to play with the colours a bit more.

I'm also trying to get the proportions and shapes down right. In game, Clem's more square-ish, so I'm gonna try and lean more in that direction. Clem's still gonna be one lanky mfer, tho. Her game sprite just gives me those vibes.

ok i kinda dont actually want to draw this but heres my line up of smash fighters i wanna see with their attacks n stuff if i have ideas for them

starting with the one who i want the most:

Karate Joe! from Rhythm Heaven i feel like he could have some really fun mechanics, the main one being that his move speed and attack power change with the tempo of the music playing. with faster music he will be faster but hit for less, and slower he will be slower but most of his attacks are heavy hitters. if theres no music then he sits in the middle of that. following that with his grab if he hits every punch on beat (( one of the little monkeys pop out to hold them and another pops out on tambourine )) he does a bit more damage. he also does that cute blush thing after he launches the fighter.

for all of his smashes they follow roughly what he does in his minigames, his up air is when he punches up into the air, his jab is his regular punch, his down is his kick. his back air is kinda the same thing

then his tilt i would love if there was a slight countdown until it does the most amount of damage but that might be a little too much tbh. but i think he would repeatedly punch and then punch them upwards like he does in his combo animation.

for his specials i think his b would be punching an item at the opponent. his up b would have the choir kids all pop out on top of him and each one hits and does damage, after the top most one is hit he falls back down, this can also be used as a recovery cuz the top choir kid can ledge grab. his back air launches them out to the side, this cant be used as a recovery but it has a longer reach. his side B could have one of the little monkies again and they can hit the other fighter which Karate joe can use to combo into a grab really easily. then Down B could be have the choir kids come out again to attack, two in front and one behind.

his final smash takes you to a cutscene from one of the minigames and he pummels whoever is brought in.

i just feel like there HAS to be rhythm heaven rep. like there has to.

next up is Cooking Mama from Cooking Mama

this one ive put the most thought into because i really want her in, but shes the character i know the least about so me and my friend @larkybarky1312 were kinda spitballing! this is also the only one i drew art for but i got really, really burnt out so i didnt finish it. think she plays as a fast lightweight attacker whos a zoner

so starting with smash attacks, her jab would be hitting with the frying pan repeatedly, her tilt would be with a cast iron. then her forward A would have her throw a bowl like a boomerang. her up A would have her fan her apron around like she was dusting it off, then have her a frame of immunity as she puts it back on and does a cute pose. her down A is her taking a baking sheet and flipping it.

ok im putting her special here because me n lark were spitballing and came up with a couple things, first either a funny she throws a bunch of groceries at you, or it kinda works like a pac man kinda situation where she mixes a bowl and the longer she mixes the more powerful the item she pulls out is, ranging from a cookie that heals 3 damage, a regular healing item that heals 10 damage, to pulling a bob-omb out.

her side special works like the inkling roller, but it does a bit more damage and its just whos in front of her, her down special would be her rocking her baby (( from that cursed baby game for the wii )) and her up special would be her spinning around with her mixing spoon!

her final smash is really sick and thanks again for lark for coming up with it but she preps the fighters like she would in her game, by mixing them, putting them in the oven, then serving them! she also heals herself from around 15-35 damage depending on how many characters she hits.

then also i think she deserves a special win screen where she pulls some cookies out of the oven then all of the other players have a special animation where theyre eating the cookie like this :

next we have: Olimar?

now, this might seem weird BUT i think Olimar should be entirely reworked. I think Alf should get a new slot to himself (( maybe share with Louie idc )) and Olimar should be paired with Moss now! half of his skins could have him have his plant head. now he would be riding moss though i love the option that he can get off of her at any time, i think generally he will be around the same speed but have a worse recovery in exchange for more power. i imagine much like with bowser jr and the koopalings, hitting Moss will do damage but hitting olimar will do more. Olimar once off moss will have acsess to his pikmin, but it wont be the same, he can only pull the ice pikmin and the ghost pikmin can only be used as recovery tools. although off of moss he does move faster and can jump higher, he is a little defenseless. once he gets off of moss she runs off stage and he has to wait around 20 seconds before he can re-summon her. that is a long time but i feel like the trade off is worth it, as only off moss can he have more than one pikmin at a time.

ON MOSS

on moss her smash jab is her repeatedly biting, then forward smash is her body slamming whoever is in front of her, her down smash would be her digging up a clump of dirt and launching it at whoever is behind her, then her up special would be her flying upwards for a short period using her tail as a propeller, this isn't based off of any move i just thought it would make sense.

for her specials she would start with having her B pull up a single Ice Pikmin - then forward B olimar would throw it. up B im not all too sure tbh, but Down B olimar would either send out the ice pikmin in that direction or moss would stomp and plant whoever was in front of her into the ground (( this one is HARD to hit ))

the final smash with moss would set them in a dandori battle, then have moss and a large group of pikmin charge at the other fighters.

OFF OF MOSS

olimars move set is similar to the one he already has but tweaked so he wont play the same as Alf. all of his smashes would be the same but with a smaller range and does more damage (( kinda like mario and dr mario ))

his specials are very different. although his special calls the pikmin/ throws them, he can only throw them after plucking two because he can only have ice pikmin to keep him to pikmin 4. his side special he sends out an onion that explodes on contact, although it doesn't have much range. his down special lets him steal items off of another fighter and his up B is what lets him fly with the ghost pikmin. with his grab hes able is able to grab and drag them around, although he has not a lot of launch power, him dragging them causes a lot of damage and after 5 seconds he can slam them down into the ground for a bit more damage.

the final smash without moss would set them in a dandori battle, and olimar would send a hoard of pikmin and objects at you, the main difference is that moss is not there... but it does a slight bit more damage.

if moss just got added as her own character two that would be sick, with an otchi alt!!

smash is hitting a player with one of his fake paintings. tilt is the same but with a fake statue. his side A works the same as villager and isabelle but with various fake paintings. up A would be him lighting up a bunch of fireworks. down A im not too sure.

his B would be planting some fireworks, much like the gyroids like isabelle. then his side special would be him splashing paint on the opposite that slowly does damage the longer its on them (( it can be removed by performing a taunt )) his down B would be him using his fan to push fighters away kinda like fluud. his Up special would be him riding a firework!

then his final smash would be easy... its him riding in on his boat then whoever it hits gets thrown in as he throws statues and paintings in.

The silly on the left is Blorbo Bleepus, and they are a fundamental deity (The highest ilk of gods, the... everything can't exist without them). They represent fun, joy, whimsy, and... mantis shrimps. Each of the Fundamental Deities have some sorta weird thing to be in charge of. Charlotte is also a FD, representing entropy and chaos. Blorbo is the only FD to not have an opposing counterpart (Like how Entropy has Order, Life has Death, etc.). Also Jimmy being Jimmy and a ✨ 🌈 rainbow 🌈 ✨

I used to draw such good dynamic poses when I was younger what happed to me 😭😭😭 all of these are from 2021 done in a short time with no refs- Like how did I do that aslkdna I mean I still dont use refs often unless Im doing studies or struggling but like I feel like I've lost that confidence man- the closest I've had recently to havin a really nice dynamic pose was that young Leo art I colored, and the thumbs I had for that

Which was this, and I still adore it but I picked the other pose cuz it showed off her new design better. But like back on topic I think the reason for this dip quality I think is because back then I just drew whatever the fuck I wanted- There was no pressure in my head that it had to look cool, so it just made me more confident and made me draw more often. but since gaining a followin and learning more about the fundamentals its kinda tied me down to thinking that I have to always be producing at a certain level of quality- Like dont get me wrong, all artist go through a "dip" in their art when their "artist eye" improves faster than their skill. And not all of my art from 2021 were this good, I def had to pick from the pile of chicken scratches I had. But I feel like dynamic poses like those happened more often back then compared to now. Like I made this account specifically to like get out of my head and post all my scribbles and learn to stop carin so much about the quality of everything I put out. And I do post almost every silly lil thing I put down onto here and it does help but it just doesnt change the fact I havent been drawin much at all :'] Hence the infrequent updates. I feel like thats something a lot of older artist struggle in over coming. Like the mentality of "you've been doin this shit for so long why aren't you improving as much as you think you should be at this point?" snakes into our heads more often than the younger artist. Because they just want to draw everyday cuz its fun, so they just draw draw draw without caring. Learnin the fundamentals of art is always good, I do recommend learning them if you want significant improvements in your skills, but learning them means youre going to make a lot of ugly art. And seeing those "ugly arts" slowly chips away at you sometimes, and a lot of artist drop art when facing that hurdle. But like its okay to make ugly ass lookin art- Its part of the process and you can not skip it!! You cant just not draw for a month cuz you got super sad for making something that isn't 100% like the image you had in your head, then pick up your pen again and think that somehow NOW you can do it even tho you havent draw anythin at all- Consumin art and improving the visual library in your head is of course important, but you cant just keep expanding your Pinterest boards assuming it will make you better.

2023 Art Summary

I can't believe 2023 is almost over and it's been a whole year! These past few months have passed by in a blur and so I feel like I'm barely holding on 😭 I had a lot of time to draw in the beginning of last year but considerably less time now...

But overall, I'm really proud of my progress as an artist this year! I had more time to draw than usual so I honed some skills and worked on some things this year! You can tell from the first Lei and the last Lei I drew XD I learned how to use filters XD to blend the character into the background!

You can also see that I started the year with Nova (Feb-Apr) and then it became Lei in my fave pieces after LMAOOO. Seriously, the last 4 months just being Vail and Lei alternates is so funny to me XD. This year was truly the year of Lei. I suspect 2024 will also be the year of Lei with vis novel development XD

Going through the months:

January: First illustration of Lei back when the campaign first started. She was supposed to be a cold b*tch but uh... that did not happen. She turned out to be a soft and sweet girl, which also reflects in my later art of her. I still want to revisit girlboss Lei though cuz the shots she took in the campaign were like 😳😳😳

February: Pink Valentines Nova~ Nova is a blue girl but soft pink Nova hits differently. I think this art was cute and I love all the heart elements I put in! (Like in her eyes~)

March: Bubble tea Nova! This was my business card for the first art market I sold stickers at! <-- artist feat of the year? Otherwise didn't draw much art this month XD I was stressed out about my first art market. SOMEONE AT THE MARKET SAW THIS ART, ASKED IF IT WAS MY VTUBER MODEL, AND THEN TOLD ME I SHOULD BECOME A VTUBER. The best compliment I got about this art XD I will remember it forever.

April: Idol Nova… technically I drew it in May but shhh the sketch was done in April. I did this because I did some bday karaoke and this was the piece I got inspired to make after having so much fun there! Here is where I started learning how to use filters to help blend the character into the background!

May: Mermaid Merrow for Mermay! This is the only Mermay piece I did but it remains one of my top art pieces this year… just all the colours are so gorgeous in this one + the BG I'm proud of! I did not post it on tumblr cuz I started posting on tumblr in Aug... LOL. But anyways it's gorgeous and took me like 2-3 days.

June: Bad art month… it was between this and the Leticia sketch I made. I ended up with this one even though I don't like it as much as the sketch because it was at least a fully rendered piece with a background and everything... I don't like the face in it, but I worked hard on the hands! (One of my weaknesses) so there's that! Sometimes it's the little things you're proud of.

July: I really like this outfit I drew for Lei! It's the one I use for refs for her now XD I'm also particularly proud of this one cuz it's a fullbody and it's hard to draw fullbody pieces... But also I just think her outfit looks really good here! And I love how dead and tired her eyes look XD which is her mood by the time she got this outfit during the campaign.

August: It was really hard to pick for August because I had two really good pieces... (actually 3 it turns out) but I picked this one in the end because I think the artist composition was just really good. There are parts I don't like about it anymore, but the lighting was good! And I'm proud I drew all her friends in this too XD the pieces of her heart -- as this art piece is called.

September: Made a GIF of disappearing Vail! Not my first GIF I've made but I like how it turned out + I'm especially proud of the background XD It's not great but I put some effort into it. I could have worked on his pose a little more... but I don't have many good Sept pieces 😭

October: Spent too much effort on a meme. But really proud of the hand and lighting. Especially drawing the cyberpunk lighting cuz that's hard... Also yeah I think I spent close to an hour sketching the hand/ making the hand look decent XD So of course this piece is the one I choose. I also worked on making the BG look decent... and Vail's backview was hard... man... I spent a long time on this piece XD

November: Yandere Vail 😳😳😳 One of the hottest Vail pieces I've drawn and it's for a mafia AU Vail LMAO. I used a reference for this XD which is why the pose looks good.

December: Most recent piece! Had to finish the year with Lei cuz we started with Lei~ This one is a modern AU Lei so it can't quite compare to Lei's canon cyberpunk universe but still~ You can definitely see improvement in my art! Or so I'd like to think. I used a reference for the pose (kind of) and also used a picture for the BG. I'm going to do that a lot next year LMAO just take pics and use them as BGs XD Work smart not hard, right?

I'll fix that for the vis novel (cope) -- I do want this to be a CG you get from the vis novel XD cuz I think it looks good XD

Aug 14: Pink Neon Nights - First Vail x Lei piece 🥺😳🥺😳 I gotta admit the hand looks hella funky for Lei BUTTTT I am in love with Vail's smile here 🥺🥺🥺 His fangs and I like how I designed his hoodie~ Plus I like the pink neon lighting from the bar they're at~

Dec 21: Nova's birthday piece~ I hadn't drawn a full illustration for her since August so this piece turned out super good. For some reason her hair became more and more grey as the years passed in the way I drew her XD She's supposed to have white hair with grey tips (oxidation???) But UHMMM I think it's hard to do highlights on white hair so I've been making her hair more and more grey as time passes XD but her hair is white, guys.

Dec 22: Lei's Happy Holidays Card - TBH I don't like how her face turned out here, BUT I like her pose and the way I did her clothing folds XD and I put effort into the BG so there's lots of other elements on this piece I like~

Thoughts I had designing these:

Leo: He’s leading some important war meeting while he is on babysitting duty, but he would stop every thing if CJ needed anything at all.

Donnie: I almost made this one into a comic (I still might) but it would go something like this

(-Cassandra: okay boys I’m needed at the outpost, can y’all watch CJ?

-Leo: that won’t work, the only one on base this afternoon is Donnie and he hates kids.

-Cassandra: … he’s letting CJ wear his Battle Shell rn.

-Leo: WHAT?! He never lets me wear it! No fair!!)

Raph: CJ is drawn a bit older here, this is probably one of his last days with Raph before he dies. CJ probably doesn’t have many memories of him, but what he does remember is how safe and loved he felt whenever Raph was around.

Mikey: Tbh all I thought about for this one was ‘I am not drawing Mikey with hair.’ Sorry not sorry I just can’t lol

Cassandra: She’s the one who gave him his hockey stick and he had Donnie trick it out later cuz it reminded CJ of his mom. Also I gave her CJ’s shoulder pad thing, he started wearing it when she died. I really wanted to draw her cuz I feel like she doesn’t get enough love as his mom, but I do like the headcannon that she died when he was still younger.

April: Commander O’Neil! I think April would out live most of the others so I drew CJ older here. Also I don’t actually like drawing young kids that much and I wanted to do an action pose. I like to think CJ looked up to April a lot and she taught him some of her bad ass skills. For her design I based it off of concept art and the designs from that one comic, but I also changed it up a bit just based on personal preference and I wanted her to look like herself just older and was struggling with that. Also, I gave her red and purple bracelets to remember Donnie and Raph after they were gone. (Made from their old masks of course)

Thinking about Casey Jr. makes me so sad cuz, he fought so hard to fix the future but in doing so he made it so his family would never turn into the people he knew. He lost everything, and he’s left with people who are almost his family but they don’t even know him. I listened to Eternity by Alex Warren while drawing these cuz that’s like CJs anthem I think. Like the line “it feels like an eternity since I had you here with me, since I had to learn to be someone you don’t know” like are you kidding? AHH 😭

alright I have to say it’s kind of funny that I have been wanting to do some lil art like figure pracs but honestly couldn’t be bothered to try to, just no energy/want for it. but as soon as I opened MM to reread for fic purposes…. I got the urge to draw them….!

—okay to be honest… I already wanted got urges to draw the characters before while reading but I was in my Art Needed Break then sooooo. time to do so now and OH MY GOD. I want to squeeze Ian cuz my guy why the f was so diff to draw :’ I wanted to cry at one point but also I do like how pretty he is… n that eyelash… I love drawing his eyes… too… and I think(?) I’ve finally got the hang of drawing him…

—and HA…. the problem really lines on how tch this art style (not really trying to copy the artsyle but get close to it to get more likeness of characters….) and yeah it is hard to get… also it doesn’t help the hair are like complicated shit. well more complicated than the scribbles I do 😫 I think I might have to actually study to do the hair properly 😔 but I at least I got the gist of it……?

—also I do think it’s funny how it took me more than one face drawing to try and get Ian sort of right but lol with sliver boy, I drew him once and was like…?! I already felt like I got the likeness. that was pretty funny. I mean I kinda did feel like I got likeness sort offff for angel boy but hmmmmmmm. it was yknow not enough. also I think it was hard trying to capture for him the feeling of his which was like “narrow/pointy/small” and not to mention the bumps that the artists likes to use…

—also his eyes are pretty hard to get down, I mean I kinda got the gist but it’s different when drawing it with the face. I feel like my separate lil eye studies were better… either way. looking at some fanart, I realised that it’s fine…?! anyways if I don’t get it alll right. it’s cool. I think I just need to get the hair exactly right or more right and that’s fine 😌. I drew him without looking at the source and yknow I think I got him somewhat down also I do think it’s so funny seeing the both of them in together since angel boy looks more finished/pretty then sliver boy LMAO. Do you have any tips for small artists?

i have no idea what level of technical skill u have so these are some pretty general tips but here u go! these are also mostly focused on fanart lol cuz that's what i like to make.

number 1 rule of art is that people like art that is interesting!!! it's gotta make them feel something or they will ignore it!! i used to draw so much art that was just like, a character standing there doing nothing. and i would try very hard to have nice lineart and pretty shading and all that good stuff but in the end a character standing there doing nothing is boring. if you have really good technical skills, then some people will still be like "wow pretty art!!" or "so photorealistic! how cool!" but generally speaking it's gonna take soooooo long to actually reach that level of technical skill if every drawing u make looks like this 🧍. if you wanna improve fast, you're much better off experimenting with all sorts of types of art.

so, what do people find interesting? lots of things!

ship art is an easy way to make an "interesting" drawing, b/c people like ships and b/c you've got a character interaction happening there. even if they're just leaning on each other or holding hands or something, there's personality in that. even when i was really shitty at art i always noticed that my ship art got more notes than art of just 1 character.

in general, character interactions always make things more interesting. u certainly don't have to only draw romantic ships--draw some characters who are friends hanging out and having fun, or draw characters who are family hugging each other, or something. or draw people fighting!!! if you're not yet used to drawing characters interacting, it can be a bit of a pain at first, but it opens up so many fun possibilities (and reference photos can always help you!! google images is honestly the best of all resources for that lmao although more specific stuff like adorkastock is great too).

even without character interactions, u can make drawings that try to evoke an emotion of some sort. dark and angsty? lonely? happy and cute? this is one of my favorite drawings ever and i think it's super, super visually interesting and tells a story without the need for more than one character or any sort of words/dialogue, just from the pose and the background and the whole vibe of it. it feels so peaceful and lovely. of course, it makes a difference that this artist clearly has a lot of technical skill, but if this same artist drew a picture of aang looking like 🧍 on a boring white background i would definitely not love this art nearly as much lol.

screenshot redraws are also pretty popular!! personally i would strongly advise that if ur gonna redraw a screenshot, you should be adding something interesting to your version. if you colorpick the exact same colors from the drawing and try to copy the style as closely as possible, it's a little boring, right? why would i want to see the exact same picture twice? one artist who does screenshot redraws really well is viorie (who i think has removed/deactivated a lot of her stuff, thus the repost, sorry):

like this is very clearly an artist that had something of her own to bring to the screenshot she was redrawing!! that's what makes it cool, appealing art, even though it's "just" a redraw.

and of course my absolute favorite thing to make drawings "interesting" is to make comics. comics are the best!! u get to draw a whole story!!! lots of types of comics that you can make, too. a lot of the comics that i've made lately are my own writing and tend to be more serious, but if you're looking for something easy, fun, and simple, try drawing incorrect quotes or make art/comics that are based off of other people's posts, fics, or ideas that you thought were really cool (w/ appropriate credit obviously).

on that note, drawing fanart for other people is especially effective for putting yourself out there because it's often hard to get your foot in the door on social media when you literally have 0 followers and no one is seeing your stuff. you draw something for a popular fic writer or a humor blog, they're happy because they've gotten fanart and they reblog your art, you're happy because now all their followers are seeing ur stuff. lol this sounds so transactional but it's really a lot more fun than it sounds. make art for other ppl! make some friends! join discord servers, join group chats, comment nice things on other peoples' work, & check out fandom events, like big bangs or ship weeks or whatever. it's good stuff.

also, use different social media. it might seem like what tends to be popular in one corner of the internet is gonna be pretty well-received everywhere else but that's not always the case lol. tumblr, for example, usually puts a lot of emphasis on consuming content "from a fandom" rather than consuming content "from an artist"--it's hard to build an individual brand, people just want More Insert Popular Fandom Content and don't really care who it comes from so long as it fits a certain type of art; in my case, atla is a way more popular show than lok, so my atla art gets significantly more attention than my lok art does, despite the fact that i don't make that much of it. on the other hand, on instagram, people really like my lok/red lotus art because that's sort of my "brand" and my atla art tends to get less attention. (this works out for me because i like lok way better and i also have way more followers on instagram than i do here.)

& ofc when you talk about becoming a "popular" artist... i mean, i'm not gonna be the person who tells u "oh you should ONLY be doing this for yourself!! if you're doing it for attention you're doing it all wrong!" because obviously i love attention and i love making art that people like. i would not draw nearly as much if i didn't have fun sharing it! but if you let yourself get too sucked into the idea of making "popular" art, you're gonna feel super drained and fucked up and you eventually will burn out hard (ahaha.............). there's a balance to strike between "i'm making this art because it's fun" and "i'm making this art because i know people will like it." on tumblr, my atla art is way more popular than my lok art, but i don't care abt atla nearly as much as i care abt lok, so i'm never gonna like, make an in-depth comic about the atla main cast the way i have for the red lotus, the lok main cast, and kyoshi. what a waste of time! even when you're looking for advice about how to become a "big" artist, ultimately, you've gotta make the art that's fun for you, and with luck you'll eventually find an audience that also enjoys that type of art.

Up next is a very floofy drawing of an old character that I’m not really sure what to do with.

Thinking of scrapping him but I can’t bring myself to. He’s probably gonna remain in the story, but I’m not sure yet. He’s also supposed to be grey but I only added the red cuz I felt like it.

This guy actually has a name, Murph, he’s part of a story I kind of abandoned after barely starting to develop which I miiiiiiiight bring back idk. I felt like drawing him with a Borzoi head cuz those guys look super cool.

YAY TH! 💛i was thinking plus size reader travels with Jaskier &Geralt, she's good friends with both but has always been in love with Jaskier She has notebooks she draws in & is so careful to never draw all of jaskier ON one page She's got pages of eyes, hands, chest, neck, hair, all the little parts of him she loves But she thinks he could never love her cuz she's not the typical kind of girl he goes with One day he finds her notebook he knows he shouldn't look she always swats him away 1/2

But he cant help it. He’s so curious and at first he doesn’t realize who it is, just thinks the art is beautiful. And then on the last page there’s an incredibly detailed drawing of a feild of buttercup flowers, maybe with Jaskier in the middle playing his lute in the sun. he talks to her carefully about it. Cuz she’s shy but she usually tells him everything, and he loves her too he just never wanted to make her uncomfortable. Then love confessions! Woo! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! (2/2)

I’ve been plus size my entire life and I don’t think I’ve ever once written a character who looked like me. Writing this was really eye-opening for me and made me really think about how to portray a plus size character in a way that was positive while still acknowledging the very real insecurities and struggles. I hope this is ok and what you were looking for and thank you for the prompt!

Being Jaskier’s best friend was glorious.

He always got invited to the best parties and insisted on bringing you along. He knew the best tailors who made you dresses that flowed perfectly with your body. Growing up you’d been forced into clothes that were the same cut and shape as others around you, just larger, which somehow left you feeling both swamped and pinched by the fabric as it tried to force your body into a shape it simply wasn’t. But the tailors Jaskier took you to fit wonderfully and if they ever rankled at or felt challenged by your size you never knew because Jaskier would have slain them where they stood if they even breathed a word to that effect. Jaskier was fun and affectionate but also fiercely protective in a way that made you feel cared for even if it did sometimes make your heart ache a little. When he turned away the men who came to ask you to dance or tried to pursue you he always declared it was because he knew their “reputation” and they “weren’t good enough for you” but a small part of you – well, alright, a very significant part of you – wished he were doing it because he wanted you all for himself.

He called you his muse though creative partner was a more fitting title. Being a ‘muse’ implied you just sat there and looked stunning and words flowed through the artist. In truth the pair of you talked through his song dilemmas. You challenged near rhymes and even though he put up a fuss in the moment, later on he would always thank you and give credit to you for helping him ensure a song flowed perfectly. In turn you would work on your drawing as he composed. You’d catch him sneaking a glance every now and then and you always swatted him away, but you’d been extra careful to ensure that even if he did look he wouldn’t realize what you were doing. Only one picture, drawn up after an especially beautiful day where he’d taken you to a field of buttercups, woven you a crown and declared you Queen of Springtime, exposed your deep secret. But he would never see it because you were too careful about keeping it close and he did respect your privacy after all

Jaskier knew he shouldn’t do it.

You always kept your notebook on you and when you saw him try to take peeks you swatted him away. He knew it was private and important to you. So much so that he almost became jealous of the damn thing. When would you gaze at him the same adoring way you gazed at whatever you drew? His heart churned with jealousy at the thought that you were drawing someone. Some man he hadn’t been quick enough to push away. He felt a tinge of guilt at that, knowing it wasn’t fair to keep you from finding a partner when he was too afraid to make his intentions known. But he would tell you one day. As soon as he got any sort of sign that the feelings would be reciprocated. Or, if he knew you were interested in someone else, he was gracefully bow out and never tell you. And perhaps his answer was waiting in that notebook. And perhaps that was reason enough.

As he flipped through the pages he admired your great talent. The craftwork in drawing the hands, long-fingered and held in different poses. Some were positioned as though it was holding an invisible instrument while others were gestured openly or clasped together. Some hair that swooped to an angle, thick and fluffy in some though she’d also taken the challenge of drawing it wet, dripping down the neck into the collar of an undershirt. Then there were drawings of eyes. Though no color was etched into them the eyes were gorgeous. Light and filled with a light that nearly gleamed off the page. A thick neck, craning at an angle that attached to just the barest edge of a strong jaw. A picture of someone that only showed the collar bones down to the waist, an undershirt left open long enough to show an etching of thick, dark chest hair. He flipped through the photos feeling an odd sense of familiarity but mostly immense pride, already trying to figure out how to tell her that she must begin selling her art or at the very least not hide it away from the world any longer.

And then he flipped to the last page.

He almost missed it, skimming fast as the pages grew blank, but he saw a touch of color. He remembered the day he’d gifted you the colored pencils. Your face had lit up and you’d thrown your arms around him, pressing your soft, warm body against his and he’d taken the chance to hold you close for longer than your usual hugs, relishing the feeling of having you in his arms. That was the end of a perfect day. A day he’d almost told you, as he looked into your eyes, farmed by a crown of buttercups. He’d almost told you that even surrounded by the gorgeous blooms, you were the fairest thing by far. But his courage had failed him and so instead he’d found you the pencils, a technicolor declaration of love he worried he would never put into words. He’d wondered if you even used them since every drawing was in the same grey and white but there it was. A picture filled with color. And himself.

He sat cross-legged in the center of a wide expanse of buttercups, lute in hand. The same hands, he realized now, that he’d seen earlier in the notebook. The hands that held the book, trembling slightly as his heart swelled and took in the picture. You’d lovingly sketched every detail of his outfit from the cerulean of his doublet to the off-cream of his undershirt. His hair fell over his face slightly though did not obscure the brilliant blue eyes that gazed at the viewer of the photo much the same way he imagined he must be looking at it right now. His mouth was drawn open mid-song and he could even tell what lyric was passing through his lips. Your talent was truly spectacular. And you loved him. And he wouldn’t waste anymore time.

When you returned from the market you were frazzled. You’d left your notebook behind and that was too dangerous. You’d practically run all the way back, arriving to camp winded and red faced. So much so that Geralt drew his sword, certain you were being pursued, and you had to convince him through gasps that everything was fine. And then you saw Jaskier walk into view, holding the notebook. Your heart sank and when Jaskier saw you he froze. He looked a little guilty but there was more there as well. You couldn’t place it, too anxious about your secret finally getting out. As he walked over to you, you began to try and form a lie that would cover it up and let things stay the way they were before.

“Geralt can we have a moment?” Jaskier asked once he reached you. Geralt opened his mouth to say something but Roach nickered and he sighed heavily and stood up, taking her reins and walking away without another word to either of you. Your heart pounded in your chest and you looked down at the notebook still in Jaskier’s hands.

“Y/N, I should apologize-”

“It’s fine just give it back,” you said quickly, reaching for the notebook but he pulled it away too fast.

“I should apologize, but I’m not going to,” he finished. Your eyes widened slightly and he held up a hand to staunch the angry tirade he could see welling up.

“Y/N, you’re amazing,” he said a little breathlessly, “Your art, your talent, it’s… it’s just beyond compare. I understand what it means, how important one’s creative works are and how personal, but please at least assure me that you aren’t hiding it away out of some misplaced sense of insecurity. Because you have nothing to feel insecure about, Y/N. Nothing.”

You fought back the tears that the words, hitting so close to so many parts of yourself you had never even told him about, brought to your eyes.

“Jaskier, how much did you see?” you asked, your eyes falling to the notebook.

“Everything,” he said, “I saw everything.”

“Fuck…”

“Y/N,” he tilted your chin up gently with one hand, raising your eyes to meet his. “I love you.”

“I know you do, Jaskier, we’re very good friends-”

“Y/N,” he said, cutting you off and gently resting the notebook on the ground so he could take your face in both of his hands as he stared into your eyes with his, brilliant blue and full of emotion, “I love you.”

The words resonated and even you couldn’t deny what he was saying. He wasn’t looking at you like a friend or a brother or anything but a man who was deeply in love and trying desperately to communicate it to the person he loved.

“But…” you began, and then bit your lip as you worried how to phrase it.

“What?” he asked, tenderly brushing away a tear.

“I’m not… you usually… I’ve… I’ve seen the women you’re with,” you began.

He nodded and waiting for you to continue.

“They are all very lovely and all very similarly bodied. That is, they’re, well, oh for god’s sake – they’re thin, Jaskier. You’re always surrounded by lovely, slender ladies and I am-”

“Lovely,” he finished the sentence for you.

“And plump,” you said pointedly.

“And plump,�� he echoed, “Lovely and plump and talented and caring.”

“I just don’t want you to love me in spite of it,” you said, an old wound aching at the thought that he was listing the things that made your body an acceptable compromise.

He frowned and then before you could try and explain further he pulled you in for a kiss, his lips soft and warm against yours. His arms surrounded you and you pressed closer into the kiss. He pulled back and began to pepper your jaw with kisses, moving down to the slope of flesh beneath your chin and back up to your lips.

“I don’t love you in spite of anything. I love you for everything that you are, no exceptions, no alterations. Every inch, every ounce, every day. If you’ll have me,” he said, realizing you hadn’t actually said the words to him yet. You smiled and felt a weight you hadn’t realized you’d been carrying begin to lift off your heart.

“I love you,” you said. Jaskier’s face broke into a smile you knew you would never capture on paper but would spend the rest of your life trying to recreate.

Being Jaskier’s best friend was glorious.

Because Jaskier’s beloved is beyond words.
