The Pillars of Creation

Chapter One has landed and I'm scared...

Finally, finally I got there. I've just published the first chapter of "The Pillars of Creation", the sequel to "The Light of Stars" (you'll need an Ao3 account for TLoS. New chapters on Pillars are currently still unlocked, but they won't stay so forever).

I'll try to publish new chapters on Wednesdays from here onward and will also create a masterlist again once more chapters have landed. I'll see how the snippet posting on here goes (last time, I gave up on it eventually, but we'll see).

The prologue is identical to the epilogue of TLoS, which was a mix of comics- and original material to fuse the two for what lies ahead. I thought posting it again as the opener made sense for a million reasons, not least so those of you who've read previously can jog their memory a bit.

If you haven't read "The Light of Stars", I'd strongly recommend starting with that one because "The Pillars of Creation" truly is a sequel, and a lot of nuance will otherwise be lost on you. Here we go...

Chapter One: Prologue

Dream felt it before he heard the griffin’s voice. Which was no surprise because at the end of the day, even the gatekeepers of the castle were his substance.

“My lord, we have captured an intruder.”

“So?”

“She claims to be your sister.”

He knew it never boded well if one of his siblings entered his realm more or less unannounced, and his intuition about this visit wasn’t any different.

When he arrived at the steps to the palace, the scene that presented itself brought out a chuckle, which made the hippogriff look at him with countless questions in its eyes.

His sister was hanging from the wyvern’s mouth, obviously not fazed in the slightest and rather enjoying herself, making noises like a very excited kid on a swing. But then again, she was Delirium, so it was to be expected.

The creature tried to speak without dropping her. “She said she was your sister.”

“She is my sister. Put her down.” He bit his lip in amusement. “Gently.”

“My lady, I must apologise. Had I but known, I…” the wyvern stammered.

“It’s okay. I mean, I liked it. It was like Disneyland,” Delirium babbled. She kissed the wyvern. “I really liked the swinging bit.”

And as much as Dream had to admit to himself that he was partly amused and partly… happy to see his sister, the slight discomfort at her appearance would not leave him alone.

“Delirium, what are you doing here?”

“I came to see you. I mean, I wanted to talk, too, not just see.” She looked almost shy.

“Why didn’t you call me? You have a gallery.” A slightly reprimanding tone had crept in out of old habit.

“I didn’t want to. If I called and you said no, then that would mean you wouldn’t talk to me. And the last time I called you, you said no. And the time before that. So I thought you probably didn’t want to talk to… me. So I thought if I just turned up, then…” She looked at him with pleading eyes. “Please don’t make me go away.”

And although his expression softened again, he was still wary. “Is this formal family business, sister?”

“Oh yes. I think. I mean kind of. Mostly. Maybe…”

“Then I think my gallery might well be the best place to conduct discussions, don’t you?”

She shrugged her shoulders. “Whatever.”

Short update about the fics that are being worked on/scheduled :)

Btw guys I see all your very sweet anons (mostly ones about König but some others) and I love you for them 💜💜💜 Once I stop hyper focusing on this ghoap torture fic I will get around to answering them lmao. Hopefully we'll see some more not-so-creepy landlord!König (he still has oversee our new dishwasher being installed after all) and there are some more König prompts I've been mulling over. Although I do actually have a question about one of them, so to the person who asked about puppy!König and Oktoberfest--did you mean puppy like personality, puppy hybrid, or puppy play? I'm cool with all of them tbh

Also I appreciate all the renewed love for Mutt (Ghost's Version)! I think that's from finally posting it to AO3 lol. I do really like that piece as a character study--tbh a lot of my reader fics are just excuses to write character studies 😂--and it was fun for me to use all the knowledge I learned about OSDD during my hyperfixation on it from a few years ago to portray Simon/Ghost in it. I may come back to it someday, I'm unsure. Like I said I really love the idea, just haven't thought of any scenes really. Well I have but idk if they'd fit with the characterization. If anyone wants to know feel free to send asks, would love to hear y'all opinions.

Selfish/Cruel: I do plan to write more installments for this series. I just don't know when. Took a while for me to get out Cruel after Selfish so it might be awhile again. Some of y'all have suggested some great ideas and I'm chewing on them.

Price/Reader: working on chapter three. Very excited for this one. It's pretty low angst which is not something I've been historically good at but I think I'm doing a pretty good job pulling it off this time lol.

Unnamed Kyle/Reader fic: 638 words in. I haven't talked about this one much on here so I'm not gonna say anything else cuz spoilers

Leliaverse: Ah my beloved!!! Dove is on another small hiatus (whoops) but it's my magnum opus so y'all never have to worry about it being abandoned lmao. I've never worked so hard on a fic before. Mutter chapter 3 is still collecting dust in my drafts as I try to beat it into submission. But it's fighting back hard. Might just say fuck it and publish it as is lol. Johnny's Bird (which I have not actually posted to tumblr yet so only those who follow me on AO3 will know about) has a mostly written chapter 2 but I still need to figure out the exact direction of where I'm going, and if I'm going to make it short and turn it into just a Ghoap fic, or long and make it Ghoap/Lelia. My unnamed Hunger Games AU (which is König/Lelia/Ghost love triangle that will probably turn into polyamory, and hey, maybe I'll throw in Johnny for funsies, who the fuck knows, not me) which has not been published is up to one and half chapters. Idk if anyone is even interested in that one lmao. My unnamed Regency AU (surprise! It's Price/Lelia, bet you didn't expect that) is mostly plotted out but barely written. Don't think I've actually talked about that one on this blog yet, and idk if anyone would be interested in that either 🤷🏻‍♀️ Aaaand my dead-in-the-water Sleep Token!141 Ghost/Lelia fic exists only in snippets in my Google Docs but mostly in my dreams.

There are various other things I have in my drafts, a combo of Ghoap, Leliaverse, and xReader. If anyone is interested in them, feel free to ask.

Eyyyy!!! I'm glad you like it! I love these idiots too, even if I choose to show it by making them suffer horribly. Anyway!

Heaven is Not Fit to House a Love Like You and I. Ah, what to say about that most beloved and most complicated of my WIPs.

Heaven is Not Fit to House a Love Like You and I is my take on Detective AU Maxim's backstory. Particularly, I've taken what we're told about Watson's past in the opening chapter of A Study in Scarlet -- that he was an army doctor in Afghanistan during the Second Anglo-Afgan War, that he was wounded at the Battle of Maiwand, and that during his recovery he contracted and nearly died from typhoid fever -- and applied those to Maxim. I have also taken inspiration from some of the larger body of work that is the fandom's creations for this AU -- fanfic, art, meta, etc -- and made him Irish Catholic.

The resulting fic is a series of vignettes intercutting between Maxim's present -- lying in a hospital bed with a bullet wound in his shoulder and a virulent case of typhoid fever -- and various moments in his past. The flashbacks are mostly focused on his relationship with Alexander and how that relationship, alongside the broader experience of war, changes Maxim's faith. And ultimately, how Alexander's death breaks it. There are a few other thematic ideas that have come up during the process of writing -- the complicated nature of being both a victim and perpetrator of colonialism, the dehumanizing effects of war, the difference (if any) between human and divine -- but largely it's about the arc of Maxim losing his faith because of the war and his relationship to Alexander.

My goal is to have it posted this summer, maybe around the end of July. Depends on how quick I can write and how much editing I think it needs. This story, more than anything else I've written, feels like the pure essence of my art, like it's something only I could make because it's so influenced by my perspectives that removing me from it would render it structurally unsound. So I want to get it right. I'll probably write up something after it's posted where I dig more into the craft of it and some of the writing decisions I made along the way and what I was trying to do -- a director's cut but for a fic, essentially. But that will be a little while.

In the meantime, have another snippet!

Alexander takes his hand back, setting about reloading his rifle. Deft, practiced motions. Steady despite the chaos. His gaze flicks to Maxim, his hands still flitting over his gun.

"You were supposed to have evacuated already." His voice is clear, firm, almost calm. "What happened?"

"The retreat moved —" He winces as he checks his work, prodding at the bandages hard enough to send a jolt of pain up his jaw. "The retreat moved too quickly. There wasn't enough time. Too many patients. Not enough ambulances."

"Are you the only one left? Your patients and orderlies —"

"That cart of was the last of them."

"Good." Alexander checks his gun one last time then peers out over the top of their cover. Braces his arms on the stone. Fires. "Of course, that's —"

"We need to move," Maxim interjects, hands flying as he packs back up his medical bag.

"You need to get out of here."

His gaze snaps to Alexander. Takes in the firm set of his jaw, the narrow focus of his eyes, the steadiness of his hands. Determined. Unshakable. Solid as stone.

"You're not coming with me."

It's not a question. He knows Alexander too well. Once he's planned a course, he won't be swayed from it.

Alexander ducks back behind their scant cover, reloading his rifle again. Flashes Maxim a smile — God, that smile. It's not fair how easily that smile shakes him, how it strips away all his budding anger and leaves him only with the ache of his affection.

"Someone has to give you covering fire," he says lightly. Like it's a joke known only to the two of them. Like he's not discussing his own impending martyrdom.

"And it has to be you." A question, but also a statement. The answer already known.

"Everything's gone to hell, but it's still my responsibility. These men are still under my command. I can't leave them behind."

Maxim studies him for a moment. Not a long moment. He can hear the battle still raging around them. So little time left. But he drinks in every piece of him — the sharp lines of his face, the sheltering breadth of his shoulders, the steadiness of his hands — and commits it to memory.

"And I suppose asking you not to leave me alone in this world will do nothing to turn you from this course."

birthdaymassacre is the first thing that comes to mind, though i wouldn't mind dipping my toes into the moonriver a lil either. i've also had this one really distinct yagamane fic idea plotted out for a while now, so we'll see if i ever get around to expanding that into a proper fic instead of like. two pages of notes LMFAO

in terms of non-romantic relationships, i am Always wanting to expand on wammy's house stuff, particularly in terms of lawlight interacting w/ meronia. The Potential. it's There. also more beyond-- getting a physical copy of LABB has really gotten me back into all of His shit again recently lolol.

hmm smallest in what sense? i suppose in the very short term, posting this fic i'm currently in the process of doing final edits on (it'll be out in a couple hours lol). this question is tough cuz i feel like most if not all of my writing goals are some kind of long-term practice thing =3=" i guess Get Weirder maybe counts. i've grown to really like superegos over the last few weeks since i feel like it ended up being a really interesting twist on the usual sex robot tropes (interesting to me, anyway) and i hope i can do something similar again. there's an honesty that i genuinely feel like i can't get at unless i allow my writing to be fully weird and/or off-putting to the degree that i want it to be, so. also-- really Committing to writing some proper horror. though that gets a bit into the next question...

i have been Frothing at the mouth wanting to write the meronia sequel to praise the sweetness after K put the idea in my head however many months ago. thx for that. after my DJRBB fic this is my Top priority for fic writing moving forward. i fear talking about this in much more depth since i haven't gotten much down get and my ideas will inevitably change (also latent paranoia that the more i talk about something the more likely it is the fic will bury itself away to die a quiet death in my drafts. can't talk too much they can smell it and panic easily) but. yeah :)) putting mello thru the cult torment nexus 👍

also might post a little birthdaymassacre ficlet but We'll See, i'm still deciding if i want to commit to expanding on that or not.

🪩 Do you have any "good" writing habits you want to cultivate?

writing regularly!! and watching my tenses. screams. mostly just writing regularly. i think i got into a decent schedule last quarter but my classes are gonna change again after break so i'll probably have to re-figure my fic writing time again depending on how busy i get. the goal is always a little bit daily but frankly i don't invest too much in that while school is active since i don't want to totally exhaust myself or turn this into a chore that i hate. i feel like most other writing goals/improvement comes down to this though, thinking about writing means jack shit for me unless i actually try and Do It once in a while. i should also probably try to critically read my old shit to see what things i'd like to work on but, eh. we'll see.

On the rare occasions I've tried to write things longer than (sometimes particularly long) oneshots, I've posted as I've written...and I've never managed to actually finish a single fic. This has led to many actually abandoned or "I'll get to it someday maybe"-abandoned WIPs out there and the guilt's decidedly starting to pile up, so yes, I would like to change it. The things I've been writing recently I've been trying to finish before I start posting...but I'm also having trouble finishing those so I'm not sure it's helping, exactly, it's just added the additional "I want to share this so bad" feeling on top of it. I'll get back to you on that when I do manage to finish something and post it all. Which leads to...

(Given you chose these two questions to send together I imagine you might've been expecting this answer, that or I just really want an excuse to talk about it. Which part of the whole reason I reblogged this in the first place was to have an excuse to talk about my stuff so thanks.)

There are several Shovel Knight oneshots I worked on more recently that I probably should feel more strongly about finishing sooner, but the one most urgent in my mind is the one you know about that I've been sitting on for over a year and wrote 8k words for in one day.

Front Lines [Code Lyoko] - An attempt to make up for a social misstep leads to disaster as Aelita and Jeremie find themselves on Lyoko with an activated tower and no one on Earth who knows they've gone. As pressure mounts, they decide to take matters into their own hands, but they're quickly running out of time--and not in the way they think they are...

Basically I have the whole thing planned and mostly written, but it's been so long since I started writing it and the draft's so messy I worry I should rewrite everything to meet my current standards. That and there's still a couple of fight scenes that need to get done and I have a really hard time writing those. Here's a bit I can share without really spoiling anything.

Aelita steps fully into the room, closing the door behind her. Jeremie raises an eyebrow and rolls his chair slightly closer to her—something about Lyoko, then?

Aelita’s face pinches with worry. “I’ve been thinking about what you said at lunch.”

Jeremie’s smile drops. He glances off to the side as if his closet doors have suddenly become interesting. “Yeah, what about it?”

Aelita frowns, taking a step towards him with her hands on her hips. He knows the look well.

“Would you really rather be possessed by XANA again than go to Lyoko?”

Jeremie winces, pulling both of his legs up to sit in an awkward-looking butterfly position on his office chair and grabbing at his feet. He still doesn’t look at her, but he can feel her eyes burning into his head.

“...No,” he admits, “I’m not that stupid. I can’t afford to be compromised like that again.” And he doesn’t particularly feel like going through it again, either.

When he finally manages to meet her eyes, her lips are pursed in an expression he can’t quite read. “Then why did you lie?”

Jeremie scowls. “You heard Odd, he wouldn’t leave me alone. Imagine how bad it’d be if he knew I was going.”

“So you have been going!”

Jeremie realizes he may have made a mistake in saying that, but he’d long since figured out lying to her is an exercise in futility no matter how experienced he gets at it. “Yeah, I’ve been going. Not for very long—I have the computer set to run devirtualization after one minute. If I could get away with not sending my data to Lyoko at all, I would, but...I haven’t figured out what causes the resistance to XANA’s influence yet, so I can’t take any chances.”

“And you haven’t told anyone?”

“They’d insist on coming with me or training me or something, and the last time the three of us went, three megatanks showed up. If they got devirtualized with me, that’d be another opportunity for XANA to attack while they were recovering.”

“And you’re embarrassed.”

Jeremie grabs his desk and turns his chair back towards it so she can’t see his face. “You heard them, I look ridiculous. I don’t want to make myself look like even more of an idiot.”

Aelita huffs, grabbing the back of Jeremie’s chair and spinning him around to look at her. She keeps hold of the chair arms to keep him from turning away again, glaring into his eyes with her jaw set.

“When’s the next time you plan on going?”

Jeremie swallows hard, his stomach dropping. It doesn’t take a genius to see where she’s going with this. “...Sometime this week. Aelita—”

“You’re right about one thing, I’m not letting you go alone.” Aelita leans away and crosses her arms. “We’re going. Both of us. Today.”

“And that’s definitely because you’re worried about me and not just curious about how dumb I look?” Aelita winces, and Jeremie realizes he's talked before thinking again. He'd been trying to work on that. “...Sorry.”

“It’s not not because I’m curious, I admit.” Her tone grows pained. “But I’m also worried. What if your devirtualization program doesn’t work? Or XANA’s monsters get to you first? I just don’t like the idea of you doing something like this all by yourself.”

“Aelita...”

Her voice softens, and though she smirks at him, her eyes are earnest. “You’ve always been protective of me. Now it’s my turn to worry about you.”

Jeremie feels his face heating up. Of course, she has every right to worry—the thought of doing this frankly still scares him half to death. It would be nice to have someone looking out for him...and besides, if he doesn’t do it now, he might very well put it off as long as he can get away with it. Potentially longer than he can get away with it.

“...And you promise you won’t laugh at me.”

Aelita puts a hand over her heart, solemn. “I promise.”

Jeremie sighs, rubbing his elbow with the opposite hand. “Okay. Clearly I’m not getting out of this.”

“No, you’re not.”

“Just give me a few minutes to get ready.” And get up the nerve.

Something I would like to know:

As previously mentioned in this post, I'm curious if those of you who follow my blog are interested in reading further stuff about my boys such as:

lore contains full backstories but also character traits, their cyberware, humanity loss, relationships with friends/their partner(s), etc (I'm sure there's more to add).

snippets/fics as I write especially Ryder's and Thyjs' story 90% alone. I do see it as an own side story that starts in the middle of the main rp story. Ry and Thy are my own ocs, so ofc I do write 'rp' just all by myself when the two are alone. I won't post any fics on A03 but consider to post them here (long chapters will be in pdf form).

role play from the 2078 story this contains wip snippets as well as whole finished chapters (it just takes a while to convert them into a "fanfic-format") but also info that I haven't shared yet because it would maybe greatly 'spoil' the story for people interested in reading.

I'm just trying to figure out if it is worth posting all the lore or just a few bits here and there, keep the rest for my friend and myself and just share it in private chats with those interested, because it is probably going to be a lot. I know it will be ongoing for the next year(s), so it more or less is a long-term project we work on.

So if e.g. only 3 people are really interested, I would conclude for myself I to let it be and feed my blog mostly with vp than having to mess with creating posts here for hours (post creator is still a bitch). I'm always happy to answer oc asks as it helps me develope the boys further (just slow in answering) and I think I'll always share a bit of lore here and there anyways like I did before. My Darling Curse (the only WIP that survived destruction. I wrote it 15 years ago an its missing only 4 chapters and I HATE leaving things undone). Its an old fandom (Ugly Betty) gay fic back before same sex marriage was ruled in NY (mind you, Canada was ok back then but the characters are based in the US). so yeah... struggles were real

Young Getty Love. (Ugly Betty) I'll add this for measure. Because I hate incomplete stuff. and I just read the comments from 15 years ago. And its true. comments make you feel better even if they were posted gazillion years ago. Well... if i finally learn to write teen characters (which i DON'T) I might write a thing or two for MLB. But probably not...

Because right now I am sketching... and long post about drawing and blablabla. and why i dont write etc etc... and that i make tons of grammar errors and never proof my writing and bla bla... I really enjoy reading this fandom better. I am learning compostion, exposure and how to handle dialogue. MLB writers are quite diverse and talented. I love it!

Okay, I will answer all of these, just because you asked.

Do you prefer to write one shots or multi-chaptered fics?

I think probably one shots. I like writing something I can finish and multi-chaptered fics take a lot of time and effort and I often end up abandoning them or losing interest in them over time. The exception seems to be the unnamed fantasy au I'm writing but I haven't posted any of that yet so we'll see.

2) Do you plan each chapter ahead or write as you go?

I actually recently started to plan ahead. Probably not each chapter, except for with the fantasy au, but at least an idea of how the story needs to evolve. I still also write as I go because I cannot think of certain plot twists or certain scenes until I'm fully in the story. Also my stories tend to get out of hand and lead somewhere different than I intend at first. Miscommunications Lead to Places is a great example of this, that ending was supposed to be very, very different.

4) Where do you find inspiration for new ideas?

Pretty much everywhere. Miscommunications came from a tiktok i saw. I wrote I Can See You, clearly based of the Taylor Swift song. The fantasy au was something that evolved through conversations with a friend. So, everywhere. I think music helps a lot, sometimes reading, and dreams. I have a lot of vivid dreams that help with scenes for my projects. And of course I do prompts so then the idea comes from other people.

13) What's a common writing tip that you almost always follow?

I don't really follow writing tips. I think the only one i usually follow is to just write. Even when you think you don't have inspiration, because writing something shitty is better than not writing at all. But mostly I just do whatever the hell I want to do.

17) What do you do when writing becomes difficult? (maybe a lack of inspiration or writers block)

Other than complain to anyone who will listen, I mostly try to find inspiration in the small things. Usually when I get stuck in my writing it's because I'm too close to it. So, I listen to music, I read a book, I go for a walk or go to the gym, just anything to not focus on the writing. One way or another something will end up happening that gives me inspiration. A certain song will come up on my playlist that throws be back into a new scene for the story or I'll see something on my walk that reminds me of one of the characters or I'll read a book and see a word that I didn't know and I look it up and it makes me think. So, yeah, a lot of things but I try to not do anything that is related to the story. Sometimes it's good to step back and get some perspective.

21) Would you ever collaborate with another writer for a story?

Oh hell yes! I think it would be super cool. Would I advice other writers to work with me? Hell no, I'm very stubborn especially when writing. But I do think it would be super cool and I even suggested as much to one of my friends but they refused. So if anyone is interested just let me know.

28) On average, how much writing do you get done in a day?

Right now, not a lot. I have been a bit lazy when it comes to writing. But if we take my average over a longer period I would say somewhere between 250 and 750 words. So, let's say 500 words. Although some days I'll write 2,000 and others I don't write at all.

The sand turned into cobblestones under Nancy’s feet. She didn’t really like the feeling. The stones were cold and pressed into her skin in an uncomfortable way, as if her feet were meant to fold over them. Robin didn’t seem bothered by them nearly as much. She just kept walking and kept talking and Nancy followed. It was all she could do. Her eyes scanned the houses built in bright colors and odd shapes. The buildings nearly jumped out at her from both sides of the road, the higher levels covering the small sidewalk that Robin refused to walk on. Instead, they were walking in the middle of the road, where the buildings couldn’t hurt them, and Nancy was glad for it. Even if there were carriages and horses waiting behind them, who for some reason did not complain.

45) Do you want to break your readers' heart or make them laugh?

Honestly, at times both. I think a great writer can find a good balance between the two but I'm leaning more toward making them laugh. Something you might doubt when you see where the fantasy au is heading.

61) Why do you continue writing fics?

I've never thought of that. Should I stop? Just kidding, you're not getting rid of me that fast. I continue writing fics because I continue to be obsessed with ronance and somehow I can't stop them from possessing every idea I have. And also because it is great practice. I used to hide my stories with my life, this is a way for me to share them without too many repercussions. Oh and of course because of all the nice comments.

I love writing them but I am surely shit at them. Something I should practice in my next multi-chapter fic.

You might notice I did not answer question 77. That is because I didn't know if you were referring to a specific fanfic or not and because 99% of my favorite scenes are part of the fantasy au. I clearly have a favorite story and it's that one.

Thank you all for the encouragement and the interest!! I wrote what would be like 3-4 chapters of that story and I believe I will leave it at that for now, as some simple snippets.

I haven't posted it anywhere yet but my idea is to eventually post it on AO3. I can't say when I'll do it, and it will probably take very long because of a bunch of reasons.

Mainly, because I'm currently studying for some exams that would guarantee me a job for life and I don't want to get distracted (and I know myself and if I post it, I'll feel the need to write more).

Also because I've discovered there was another AI scrapping from AO3 and even though I've locked all my fics for registered users only, I fear they were all stolen and fed to the AI :( So that left me a really sad feeling and I think I won't post more of my writing there for now until I feel more comfortable with knowing that no matter what I do, my stories and my effort will end up training without my consent those AI machines that I hate with all my heart...

But mostly, I want to let those ideas for that fic mature and write when I feel like it, without the pressure I self-impose when I post it anywhere. I think I'll probably end up posting it next year once the SOTR film gets closer, since with some luck maybe I'll have finished my exams and I'll have the Hunger games brainrot again so I'll be able to write and polish it more

So... The brainrot got ahold of me and I am writing the "The hunger games but it's in Haymitch POV after the things we've learnt in SOTR plus add a little bit (or more like a lot) of Hayffie slow burn because I want him to heal" fanfic.

Currently 3.7k words in and I've written until the moment Katniss gets reaped. I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep up and write all I want, so it will maybe end up as little unconnected snippets of scenes, but the plan was to at least write the first book in his POV (which will be way less shorter than the book itself, since he's not "on screen" during most of it)

It's basically a lot of connecting what happens in the book with what feelings and memories each moment would bring out of Haymitch and filling gaps of what I think Haymitch would be doing out of scene while the events in the book unfold. And in those "out of scene" parts I add conversations I think he would have with Effie and small details of how their relationship has developed in all those years they've known each other and how they subtly care for each other. Also, I want to mix scenes from the book and from the movie (or mixing some conversations that happen in the book with those ones in the movie if it seems like they could connect well) selecting those I feel give more content for me to write about Haymitch's feelings and thoughts.

I've never posted anything of what I write in AO3 here (since I've never used Tumblr for the fandoms I've written so far) and this will be my first THG fanfic ever, so I'm not sure if I should post an announcement here once I post at least the first chapter or something like that? Would someone be interested in it? Any thoughts or advices on the whole thing?

Oooh boy, I've got more than a few works that are either A) put on hold for current works or B) stuck in timeline hell. Whenever I make fully fledged fics, I make a rough draft of a timeline of events to sort of follow. For example: Roark wakes up and goes to work in the mines -> someone tells him about a strange noise in one of the deeper caverns in the mines, so he goes to check it out -> surprise wormhole!!!! -> eeby deeby. Not as complicated as a full on storyboard, but keeps the general idea of what I'm going to write while allowing room for adjustments or new, smaller events. Keep in mind: most of these WIPs are stuck in timeline development hell. (Oh and, if you didn't know, all of these are about Roark. I'm not kidding. Actual brainrot)

Apopalypse from BTD 5?!?!?!?! (Has actual words written, I think maybe about halfway-ish done? Turning out great so far for my first... I won't spoil anything more.)

Chapter Previews for Truce

So fun fact regarding previews of ch3 (and ch4) from Truce: you're right; they don't exist here on tumblr. This was before I'd realized the butch/lander community is also active here on this platform as well, so under that mentality I'd mostly just tweeted screenshots of ch3 (and 1 tweet about ch4) over on my Twitter account. Because it's awhile back, they're buried under my 300+ tweets (especially with the daily/weekly updates from the three threadfics of then) but I believe you can still find them on Twitter if you search for "Truce ch3" and "Truce ch4" and sort them by Latest tweets. You can also find a few sneak peek snippets in the ch2 Comments section of Truce that I gifted a couple readers as thanks for their comments~.

Truce Ch3 Status

At the time I was juggling three threadfics and Truce all in one go. A lot of ch3 was written even before ch2, but it was the beginning scene and the last scene that stumped me. What happened essentially since was I had a conversation with two moots based on a NS/FW drawing planned for ch3 and ended up changing the location, so that scene has to be changed.

Then what was left was the beginning scene I had to first tackle, and I made the decision to go waaaaaaaay outside the box that no one has written before—which is the subtle romantic parody of Superman and Lois Lane in outerspace. A reader of mine tweeted under my tweet of me airing out that idea, and they essentially sent me a thread of questioning the logistics of how that'd work and how dumb it'd be essentially on HL's part (because, y'know, space and exposed human eyeballs and the human body, lack of oxygen/ inability to breath in space, and then there's the question about how Billy's and Homelander's bodies are gonna be able to withstand the heat of re-entering Earth's atmosphere even with their nigh "invulnerable" bodies)—and that fired me up to commit to the outerspace idea as the dramatic first scene because I'm a stubborn writer (/lh). The more you tell me an idea is dumb or cannot be done, the more I feel compelled to do it to prove the person wrong. (Mind you, though, we're good friends on Twitter; this is not meant as shade or anything, haha. They know I joke about how I'm a "stubborn writer" like a certain main character from one of my fics and how their thread fired me up to dig my heels in and give this insane idea a shot.)

After TNotG ch1 is posted to AO3, I'll go back to resuming the writing of Truce ch3. Originally I was thinking of maybe waiting for The Boys (TV) S4 to air so I can bring in Firecracker and Sister Sage and keep true to their canon show personalities instead of me making it up, but then I saw someone tweet that Erin Moriarty doesn't think post production of S4 will be done till 2024. So I think, as long as I'm not gripped by TNoTG ch2 feels, I'm probably going to jump ship briefly and finish Truce ch3 first after TNoTG ch1.

Fix-it AU and the Sugar Baby AU

I'm glad you're enjoying them! Presently as I'm writing TNotG ch1 (and later Truce ch3), I'm putting them on a short pause so I can focus on them individually and not have my wires crossed. HL's POV is always entertaining to write, and there is a certain type of Homelander that I very much enjoy in both my readings and writings. I have a soft spot for reading about a vain, clingy, narcissistic obsessive/ possessive manipulative psychopath HL who is codependent on his partner and wanting them so much he lets himself be dommed—and, after experiencing an earth-shattering revelation and bliss, he now expects to be catered to and pampered like a pillow princess and having Billy's attention revolve around him 24/7 (bc ofc). It's delightful to read about in the fictional sphere where we can play with such an unhinged character, and I like sharing that with my readers.

I'm still thinking maybe after Truce is completed and we just have TNotG in my AO3 portfolio left, that maybe I can migrate these threadfics over as part of my Butchlander Twitter Threadfics series—but obviously polish them up and change a few story decisions and, eventually, finish them. Right now these threadfics only exist on Twitter—and so they shall remain there until I'm ready to begin the migration.

i am not dead. i took a hiatus from working on AtDaS for a while bc i had a Lot of other shit going on but now i have a real job in my field (pog) and have started working on it again. (also i just can't be fucking bothered to fill my queue lmao)

the hope is to have another chapter out in time for april 16th/23rd since that's another fun anniversary. not sure if i'll make it there because the middle section of this is still very... improv-y? like, the story outline for AtDaS is basically just:

FLRciano subplot proper introduction (DONE)

next scene of darkroom subplot (planned-ish, partially done, but i got stuck on it a while back for a reason lmao)

stages subplot ("planned" in that i have fragments of vibes and a general kind of escalating arc, but not really anything that can be specifically outlined perhaps? like i know where this is going and how it's going to get there but unlike the other arcs where i know what certain scenes are going to be ahead of time all i can really say is that these are going to be RAW dialogue that i later go back and add tags for because that's the best way to write barely-not-arguments)

the rest of the SFeli subplot ("planned" in that i know where it Needs to go, but there's complicated shit here that i need to figure out. FL (probably) doesn't have enough material in the right places for me to be able to stretch this for how far it needs to go, but we'll get there when we get there)

the rest of the FLRciano subplot ("planned" in that i know where it needs to go, but there's a lot of stuff to sort through here because there are very particular kinds of energies that im looking for with this subplot? the "proper introduction" gets one set of the criteria across, the finale section gets another set, and the 170 is going to be :chefkiss:. you'd think this would be major beats only but it's actually kinda the opposite of that - it's the lucidity (and anti-lucidity, which is not the same thing as un-lucidity) that matters more. either way this is more about picking specific points to riff from and then exploiting the uneven distribution of these points to create ENERGY energy)

the rest of the darkroom subplot (this needs to go places but i have no idea how im going to get it there lmao. this subplot is VERY likely to get cut tbh, or at minimum cut down. there's very little that it does that the stages subplot doesn't do better and what little this does that that can't could be condensed into like. one scene. rip)

stages subplot finale/third type of magic (has been DONE since like september lmao)

a few scenes either directly preceding third type of magic or in between it and the finale chapter for each of the subplots. mostly thinking of FLRciano 170, but there's other shit that could maybe go in here too. (PLANNED though placement as you can guess is WIP, mostly because there's a REALLY cool scene that im somewhat including with third type of magic that i really don't want to cut, but it leaves off on a WAY wrong tone to directly join with the finale chapter)

finale chapter (all DONE minus like four paragraphs that i got stuck on rip. also has been done for a very very long fucking time, one of the scenes in here was the first thing i wrote of this before i even had the idea to turn it into a fic)

expologue short-chapter (basically DONE though i might change some things here)

so that's about where that is. ill probably want to get a similar amount of content out to what i did for the first chapter, which will probably be 5-6 "standard" length scenes instead of a bunch of snippets (because most of the snippets were exposition of sorts). which means the chapter's about 30-40% done depending, because ive got those two scenes complete already and ive maybe got a few other pieces of things that could go here.

so, there's that! and god one of those scenes fucks so hard. a chess game as an exact metaphor is far better than i was hoping for but i sure did find it lmao.

also i got a new ipod bc my old one Broke broke and it's got sick ass theming lmao ill post pics at some point maybe.
