Definitely True Facts About Commander Vertex #4
He's lost everything.
[forgotten Fox AU tag]
Bucket, for the crimes of having an excellent sabacc face and a hip that seized up when moving any faster than a light jog, was often stuck manning the Guard HQ front desk.
They didn't get too many natborns coming through these days, at least, now that the CSF were forced to do their own jobs and had taken over guarding the prison. The Guard was finally back to being a protective, high-level military force instead of doing all the domestic policing and drudgework they'd been relegated to. They were still beholden to the Senate, but things had gotten better since Palpatine died and Organa took office, even if some of the Dome's denizens still saw them as little better than droids.
So Bucket didn't have to deal with that--he could, he got his name from being able to fit his demeanor to whatever the situation needed it, swapping faces like you could swap a helmet--but he did still have to deal with the regular comers and goers. Thankfully, that was mostly clones, plus the new addition of the pack of Jedi healers that descended on medbay once a week.
Interesting bunch, the Jedi. A lot more personable than Bucket had thought they would be. Surprisingly calm up until you admitted to using a soldering torch to close an acute laceration.
(It wasn't even a recent injury--it happened so long ago that it was already healed. But now Master Nema gave Bucket the stink eye whenever she saw him, like she was trying to determine how medically stupid he'd been in her absence.)
"--figure what they were going on about?"
Bucket snapped to attention as the exterior doors slid open, a placid expression settling across his features. He turned toward the voice--only to relax when he caught sight of the visitors.
"Just something about another shift in the Force," Marshal Commander Cody said, offering Captain Rex a shrug. "It's not as bad as when Palpatine died; nobody passed out this time, at least."
"Small mercies," Commander Gree observed, bringing up the rear behind them. He had four takeout containers cradled in one arm, and by the smell they were from the offensively good noodle cart that parked near the base of the Rotunda. Bucket took a deep, envious breath and decided he was definitely going there for latemeal.
This particular group of GAR troopers--along with Commanders Bly and Wolffe--were a familiar enough sight at Guard HQ. They didn't visit often, almost eternally deployed to the front lines, but whenever their leaves lined up they usually made an appearance. Bucket had never seen all five together at once, but maybe that would change now that the war was officially over and battalions were being called back to Coruscant.
"Commanders, Captain," he greeted, standing up behind the counter to salute. His second for the day, Kelari, hastily copied the action.
Cody waved the formality away with the hand sign for 'at ease', nodding at the two of them in turn.
"Sergeant Bucket," he greeted. "And I don't think I know..?"
"Private Kelari, sir!" Kelari chirped. She was still painfully shiny, wide-eyed and awestruck as she stared up at the Marshal Commander, and Bucket allowed the gaping with fond indulgence.
Kelari was one of their most recent acquisitions, part of a squadron that arrived after the death of the Chancellor. The group didn't have any direct experience with the war or the suffering that came with it, and the entire Guard were doing their damndest to make sure they never would.
"Private Kelari," Cody acknowledged, one side of his mouth ticking up. "Good to meet you."
Kelari beamed; Bucket shooed her away so he could get back in front of the security screens.
"The Jedi up to shenanigans again?" he asked as he pulled up the admittance forms.
Rex sighed, heavily, and Cody shot him an amused look.
"Let's just say," Gree said, "That it will be nice to avoid more half-coherent explanations on how the Force works now that the war's over."
Bucket snorted, starting to fill out the usual info. The Guard never got a Jedi--and with the reveal of Palpatine being a Sith, they now knew why--but he had to admit he was glad they never needed to deal with the often-inexplicable Jedi tendency to rely so much on some invisible cosmic power.
"Captain CT-7567," he recited idly as his fingers flicked across the keys, "Commander CC-2224, and Commander CC-1004, here to see --"
Bucket blinked at the 'reason for visit' box.
This batch of clones had been visiting the entire war, either by themselves or together, whenever their rare leave allowed. They came often enough that if Bucket wasn't the one that would suffer the datawork hassle later, he would have just waved them on through.
He was familiar enough with them to know that Cody's infamous scar came from a sparring accident, that Gree had three half-finished xenobiology research papers that he hoped to someday publish, and that Rex had been forcibly adopted by the CC clones without being allowed any input in the matter. He knew that Wolffe had three implanted teeth from multiple attempts at biting trainers through their armor as a cadet, and that Bly sometimes mixed up his letters and numbers and had almost been decommissioned as a result.
And Bucket had no idea what to put in the box.
"Sergeant?" Kelari asked quietly, stepping close to Bucket's side, "They're Commander Vertex's batchmates, right?"
The gentle nudge would have been helpful--Kelari was new, but she'd already learned what to do when another Guard faltered--except the intel she was working with was faulty.
It was a reasonable assumption: Thire wouldn't shut up about his batchmates, so they were all known. Ponds had already stopped by to see Stone, the rest of their batch lost to the war, while Thorn's quietly deranged batch somehow managed to stay known but off the radar. Vertex was the only Commander whose batchmates were unaccounted for.
Except Vertex didn't have any batchmates.
Cresh Squad had taken heavy losses a couple weeks ago, and Bucket had been doing his own rehab with Patches in the medbay while they were still recovering. Commander Vertex had been there speaking quietly with the survivors, going between the beds with soft words and reassuring touches. It was clear that he'd done that kind of thing before, and when he'd finally taken a moment to sit down with Defib, Bucket had overheard their conversation.
'Good going with Whiskey,' Defib said gruffly. 'He would have camped outside the medbay doors if you hadn't talked him down. Tango's stable, but it's never easy to see a batcher get hurt.'
'No,' Vertex said, sounding tired. 'It really isn't.'
'Sounds like you have experience.'
Vertex was silent for a long while.
'My batchmates,' he said eventually, 'And my command. I lost them. They're...they're all gone, now.'
'Not gone,' Defib corrected gently, 'But marching far away.'
'Not gone,' Vertex had agreed, almost too soft to hear. 'Just marching far away from me.'
Patches was a medic and Bucket knew when to keep his mouth shut, and neither of them had mentioned anything of the conversation to others. Bucket was pretty sure the other commanders knew, too, but it wasn't like they'd go around airing someone's trauma like that.
Far too much trauma to go around for all of them.
Kelari nudged him again, and Bucket blinked rapidly, hauling himself out of the memory. He lifted his gaze from the half-finished form to meet Cody's eyes.
The Marshal Commander frowned.
"We're here to see--to see..."
Missing memories weren't that uncommon, in the Guard, but as Bucket watched confusion steal across Cody's face--as that confusion shifted into unease and then panicked alarm--he didn't think that it was just a Guard problem, anymore.

You look at the woman standing between bunks with wide eyes. You weren't sure earlier when you saw her on the screen, but seeing her standing ten feet away from you, you're absolutely positive that you know who this is.
"Sergeant?"
Cho Hyun-ju turns and gasps when she sees you, a smile lighting up her face. She quickly embraces you, you happily hugging her back. You were always her favorite soldier (she never admitted it, being the sergeant of the Brigade, but you both knew she liked you best). You were one of the only people who supported her when she came out. You tried to fight against her discharge but, as a low-ranking soldier, you had no say in the matter.
"I knew it had to be you!" you say, pulling back with a smile. "When I saw someone go back into the playing field to help a guy with only ten seconds left, I just knew it was my sergeant!"
"It's good to see you," she says. "Though, I wish it was under better circumstances."
You nod solemnly. You had just watched at least a hundred people die while screaming and begging for their lives. As a former soldier, it was hard that you couldn't do anything to help the civilians. All you could do was stand there and listen to the screams and gunshots, and then the silence.
"How are you here? Are you not part of the Brigade anymore?" Hyun-ju asks.
You shake your head. "No, I actually left not long after you were discharged. It wasn't the same without you, and I just couldn't be civil with the others after how they treated you."
She nods, understanding. "Well, if I'm going to be here with anyone, I'm glad it's you. I trust you with my life, soldier."
You smile. "And I you, Sergeant."
<>
You and Hyun-ju had made it through the next two games together, along with some allies you made along the way. Together with Young-mi, Yong-sik, and Geum-ja, you had been the first team to succeed in the six-legged pentathlon.
You had also made it though Mingle with some new allies, though not all of your old allies made it. Young-mi's death was hard on your whole group, but Hyun-ju had been taking it the worst. While you had grown closer with Yong-sik and Geum-ja, she had formed a special bond with the young girl and had to watch her die right in front of her.
While you would like to take the time to mourn Young-mi, a lot has happened in the few hours since the third game ended. The vote on whether to go home or stay ended in a 50-50 tie, meaning you're going to have to redo the vote tomorrow. Then, a huge fight apparently broke out in the men's bathroom, leaving five players dead.
Both sides group together to count their numbers, and you find that there's now one more X than O. While the players around you celebrate, a feeling of dread shoots through you.
"Attention please. Lights out in 30 minutes. All players, please return to your beds and prepare for bedtime."
Shit.
Player 047 stands in front of the group. "Listen, you cannot change your minds. We have to win the second vote and get out of here tomorrow, alright?"
As the other players around you nod and move to their beds, you stay sitting, watching the O players. They're already looking at your group. Watching. Waiting. You look at Gi-hun, the previous winner, and know that he's thinking the same thing you are.
<>
"Those bastards are acting suspicious," Dae-ho says, returning to the small circle you formed on the ground. "It looks like they're up to something."
Jung-bae breathes out a laugh. "Whatever those idiots do, once we win the vote tomorrow, it'll all be over."
"You think we'll be okay?" Dae-ho asks, concerned. "They say things were really crazy in the bathroom earlier."
"We need to be ready," you say from your place between Dae-ho and Gyeong-seok. "They've been watching us since the moment they found out the prize money goes up if we kill each other."
The group around you tenses before Gi-hun speaks up as well. "Once the lights go out, people on the other side will attack us."
"Really?" Yong-sik asks from beside his mother.
Gi-hun nods. "Because if they kill us, they'll be able to win the vote and increase the prize."
"So what do we do?" Yong-sik asks.
"Let's attack them first," Young-il suggests. "They're probably thinking we'll just wait for the second vote. We can use it to our advantage. We'll attack them first once the lights go out."
"That's right," Player 047 says. "It'd be better to attack them first. We have more women and elderly on our side. If we get attacked we'll be at a disadvantage." You send him a glare that makes him freeze for a moment before continuing. "Attacking them first would give us a better chance of winning."
"I agree," Player 145 adds.
"We can't do that," Gi-hun says.
"But we have to get out of here," Young-il argues. "You said it yourself. Staying calm won't get us anywhere now."
"That doesn't mean we should kill each other," Gi-hun says. "That's exactly what they want us to do."
Jung-bae leans forward. "'They'?"
Gi-hun looks at him. "The ones who created this game." He turns to face the rest of the circle. "The ones who watch us play. If we're going to fight someone, it should be them."
It's silent before Dae-ho speaks up. "Where are they?"
Gi-hun looks to the ceiling. "Up there."
You all follow his gaze before looking around at each other.
"On the upper levels," Gi-hun says, "are the rooms they control the games from. The man in the black mask is their leader. Once we capture him, we'll be able to win."
"How are you going to fight them?" Young-il asks. "They have guns."
"We'll fight them with guns, too," Gi-hun says.
"But we don't have any," Jung-bae says.
Gi-hun turns to him. "We'll take their guns."
You and Hyun-ju look at each other. This is what you were trained for.
"From those masked men?" Gyeong-seok asks nervously.
Gi-hun nods.
"That's too dangerous," Young-il says. "Even if we manage to take a few guns, we'll still be outnumbered."
"What then?" Gi-hun argues. "Are you going to kill each other all night and hope you survive? Is that what you want, Young-il?"
Hyun-ju breaks the silence. "Do we... stand a chance?"
"We do if we catch them off guard," Gi-hun says. "Out of everyone, they're the ones who would least expect us to attack first. This is our last chance to end these games once and for all."
"How are you going to take their guns?" Young-il asks.
"Once the fight begins tonight, we'll have our chance."
<>
"Lights out in ten seconds."
"Ten,
nine,
eight,
seven,
six,
five,
four,
three,
two,
one."
The lights dim, then turn off completely, leaving only the red and blue lights from the floor.
You roll out of bed, getting under the frame. You feel someone else trying to get under your bed, and you move a bit to make room for Dae-ho. Just as you get in position, you see bodies creeping towards your side of the room, illuminated by the bright blue O on the floor.
There's a scream, and all hell breaks loose.
The lights strobe as you hear the sounds of screaming and bottles being smashed coming from all around you. Somewhere to your right, a bunk is toppled over, sending someone to the ground. Another player runs up to them, stabbing their fork into their neck.
You feel the ex-Marine next to you tense up and put a hand over his, trying to bring him some comfort, or at the very least trying to keep him from blowing your cover.
You hear the buzzer of the door and the lights come on. One of the soldiers fires into the air to stop the fighting as about twenty masked guards come into the room, all armed.
You quickly army crawl out from under the bed, Dae-ho following you as you lay down on the ground.
You hear footsteps getting closer to you, and your ear is moved as a device scans behind it.
You open your eyes, grabbing the soldier so they can't move. "Dae-ho! Now!"
The ex-Marine smashes a bottle over the head of the guard, knocking him unconscious. You take the opportunity to grab the submachine gun off of the soldier, shooting another soldier coming toward you and Dae-ho. You're so focused on the fight that you fail to notice the quivering boy holding his hands over his ears against the bunks.
Grabbing another gun, you quickly scale one of the bunks to get a better vantage of the fight.
"Sergeant!" You yell, gaining the attention of Hyun-ju. She looks to you and you toss the SMG to her. She drops her pistol and catches the weapon, turning just in time to shoot one of the pink guards coming for her.
You use your position to fire at the guards hiding behind bunks. You pull the trigger until you hear a click, cursing as the mag runs empty. You jump down from the bunk, using the butt of the gun to knock a guard out cold. You quickly take his ammo and reload your own gun, firing at a guard trying to shoot Gi-hun.
"Retreat. Retreat."
The voice over the intercom announces and the pink soldiers make their way towards the door. You're able to shoot two more, but most of the soldiers who are still alive are able to make it out of the room. The main guard with the square on his mask is too busy firing back to realize that the door has closed behind him, sealing him in the room with you just as he runs out of ammo.
"Stop! Hold fire!" Gi-hun yells.
Jung-bae and another player run over to the square guard, making sure he won't fight.
"You goddamn bastards!" you hear someone yell on the other side of the room and turn to see Player 047 aiming his gun at a bunch of O players.
"No!" Gi-hun yells, stopping the man before he can shoot. "This is not what we took these guns for. If we do this, we'll be no different from those masked men."
Player 047 lowers his gun, hanging his head and he softly cries.
Gi-hun steps to the center of the room. "Everyone! Don't be scared. Gather round, please! We're not trying to hurt you!"
You walk to stand by Hyun-ju and Gyeong-seok.
"Get the guns and ammo from the dead," she tells the both of you.
You nod, doing as your sergeant says while she takes out the cameras in the room.
<>
Placing one of the last guns on the mattress in the center of the room, you move to stand in line between Jung-bae and Dae-ho, handing the extra SMG in your hand to Dae-ho.
Gi-hun steps forward. "Everyone. We will now head up to the masked men's headquarters. We'll capture the ones who captured us, put an end to this game, and make them pay. Anyone who knows how to use a gun and wishes to join us, please step forward."
You look at the crowd in front of you, but everyone stays where they are.
"Hey," you hear a voice next to you say and turn your head to see Jung-bae stepping forward. "I know you're scared. I'm scared too. But this may be our last chance to make it out of this place alive. Fight with us so we can go home together. All together."
One of the players in the back of the crowd steps forward. "I'll fight with you."
Gi-hun waves at him to come and take a gun. Two other players come forward as well.
You watch as Yong-sik makes a move to step forward, but he catches your gaze as you shake your head at him. It's very brave of him to think about volunteering, but he hasn't even served his mandatory military service yet, and it would kill his mother if he didn't come back. You breathe a sigh of relief when Yong-sik stays where he is.
When it's clear that no one else is stepping forward, Gi-hun turns to you all. "Please check your guns and ammo."
"Let's take one radio each," Jung-bae says. "We'll use channel 7, the lucky number."
You put the strap of your gun around you, checking the mag and putting it back in place when you're satisfied with the amount of ammo that is left. You look to your right to see Dae-ho fiddling with his own gun. Just as you're about to help him, Hyun-ju steps forward.
"Attention," she says, holding up her gun. "This is the MP5, a submachine gun." She continues on the demonstrate how to load the weapon and set it to the mode you should be using. When she's done, she looks at you all. "Are we clear?"
"Yes," you answer, falling right back into the rhythm with your sergeant.
Hyun-ju nods to you, silently telling you to stay by her when you get out there.
"How do you two know each other?" Dae-ho questions, his voice a bit shaky.
You smirk, cocking the MP5. "I was in the 13th Special Missions Brigade. Hyun-ju was my sergeant."
Dae-ho stares at you, completely stunned. "You were in the Decapitation Unit?!"
You chuckle at his disbelief, nodding.
The man can't believe it. He's been bragging about being an ex-Marine while there's been two ex-Special Forces soldiers right next to him the whole time.
Gi-hun points a pistol at the square-masked guard. "Take it off."
The guard slowly removes his mask, revealing a boy no older than 25.
"Good God," Jung-bae says. "Do your parents know what you're doing here?"
The guard just stares at him.
Gi-hun cocks the pistol. "Take us to your captain."
<>
"All players, it is bedtime now. Please return to your quarters immediately. Otherwise, you will be eliminated from the game. Let me repeat..."
Gi-hun fires at the speaker, effectively shutting up the voice. Three guards are stood over you. "Get down!"
You duck behind the wall of the stairs. Feeling a hand on your shoulder, you turn to look at Hyun-ju behind you.
"Cover me!"
You nod, shooting at the guards while she sprints to the top of the stairs. From her new vantage point, she is able to take out one of the guards, causing their body to fall over the ledge and down to the floor.
When you duck down to reload, you see Dae-ho next to you. The ex-Marine is sitting in a ball, covering his ears and flinching every time a shot rings out. You look at him with concern, but your attention is stolen by Gi-hun telling everyone to hold their fire. Dae-ho gets a grip on his weapon and you all move, following Gi-hun and the un-masked guard.
As you move down an alleyway, Gi-hun stops the guard. "How much farther? Is this the right way?"
The boy points toward the end of the hall. "The entrance to the management area is around that corner. The control room is right above it."
Gi-hun pushes him. "Move it, then!"
"Wait," the guard says, reaching toward his pocket.
"What are you doing?" Gi-hun stops him.
"I need my mask to pass security," the guard explains. Gi-hun nods and the guard takes the mask out. He looks up, but before he can say anything else, a bullet goes right through his head.
You all take cover as more shots are fired at you. Something slashes onto your face, and you turn to see Player 072's lifeless body falling to the ground.
You drop the floor and crawl over to Hyun-ju, both of you taking positions in a green square area of the stairs. You nod to each other and duck out of cover, firing at the guards. You can hear the men speaking to each other at the other end of the line, but you focus on taking out as many guards as possible.
You and Hyun-ju alternate firing and taking cover, both of you shooting with deadly precision, doing your best to not waste any of the already low supply of ammo you have.
A player next to you screams and is shot. You turn, shooting at the guard approaching from your rear, taking out a few that are behind that one as well.
"Everyone! Check your magazines!" Hyun-ju calls out.
You take the mag out of the gun, seeing that you have about half of a clip left. Everyone announces that they're around the same.
"Young-il, Dae-ho, can you hear me?" The voice of Jung-bae erupts from your radio.
"Go ahead!" Young-il says.
"I think we're right below the control room." Shots can be heard in the background. "But we need backup and more ammo."
"We're running out of ammo, too!"
"There should be spare magazines in the soldiers' pockets in our quarters. Go get them!" Gi-hun yells through the radio.
"Did you hear that?" Young-il turns to the group. "They need backup! Three of us will go, and the rest will stay! Join us once you get the magazines! Who wants to go with me?"
Players 047 and ... volunteer and they run off towards the end of the hall.
"I'll go get the magazines!" Hyun-ju yells. "I'll come back as soon as I can, so just hold on until then!"
"Hyun-ju!" A voice yells. You turn to see Dae-ho raising his hand. "I'll go!" He hurries over to where you and Hyun-ju are taking cover. "I- I'm out of ammo."
"Do you know the way?" Gyeong-seok asks. Dae-ho nods.
"We destroyed the cameras on the way, follow them," Hyun-ju says.
"I'll go with him," you say. "I still have some ammo, so I'll cover him."
Hyun-ju nods. "I'll cover you. Go!"
You and Dae-ho take off down the stairs. He stops a few times, but you pull him along, keeping your eyes up to watch for the broken cameras. As you're running down the stairs, Dae-ho stops, and you turn to see him staring at a dead guard hanging over the ledge of a window.
"Dae-ho!" Jung-bae yells. "Can you hear me? Where are those magazines?"
You lift your own radio to your mouth. "We're getting them now."
"Alright! We're counting on you!"
You put your radio back in your pocket, grabbing Dae-ho's hand and pulling him along behind you.
You burst into the quarters, letting go of Dae-ho's hand as you sprint to a guard, taking the spare mags out of their pockets. You hear someone say your name and look up to see Yong-sik.
"What happened? Why are you back by yourselves?"
"We're low on ammo," you say, not looking up from the guard you're looting. "We need to get the magazines from their pockets. Help us!"
You look up to the boy to see him nod and run over to a nearby guard. Geum-ja and Jun-hee come over to the help, as well.
Once you've looted all the ammo from the guards, you place them into a jacket you found on one of the dead players. You tie it up and give it to Dae-ho, thanking the others as you lead him out of the room.
Gunshots can be heard as soon as you step outside. You keep moving but when you check behind you, you see that Dae-ho has stopped where he is.
"Dae-ho, we need to go," you urge.
He looks at you silently, but the fear in his eyes sends the message. You've seen soldiers like this before you joined the Special Forces.
Dae-ho stands in his spot, paralyzed other than the shake of his body in fear.
You hear your name and Dae-ho's through the radio. "Where are you? Can you hear me?"
You watch as Dae-ho lifts his radio, staring at it as Hyun-ju's voice comes through.
"Did you find the magazines? Are you on your way?"
Dae-ho looks at you. "I'm sorry," he whispers, dropping the radio on the ground and running back into the quarters with the magazines.
"Shit," you say under your breath. You follow Dae-ho into the room, looking around to find where he went. Yong-sik points toward a bunk and you find Dae-ho curled up there, rocking back and forth. Running over to him, you take the jacket with the mags, ready to run out of there. You take a look at Dae-ho, the pure fear coursing through him as he whispers apologies over and over.
You sigh, remembering one of the lessons Hyun-ju taught you as your sergeant.
Never leave a man behind.
Taking out your radio, you bring it to your lips and press the button. "Charlie Foxtrot."
You put your radio down, knowing that Hyun-ju will know what to do. You had picked up the phrase from your U.S. counterparts, saying it to each other when something goes wrong.
Moving to sit on the bed, you take Dae-ho's hands into yours. "Dae-ho, I need you to breathe with me, alright."
He slowly looks at your face before launching himself into your arms, sobbing into your shoulder. You rub his back comfortingly, knowing you can't leave him alone like this.
After a few minutes, Hyun-ju runs into the room shouting you and Dae-ho's names. She comes running over to you, stopping when she sees Dae-ho in your arms.
"What happened?"
Dae-ho jumps a bit at the new voice, burying his face farther into your jacket.
You look up a Hyun-ju, shaking your head at her. She nods, understanding. You point at the magazines and she scoops them into her arms, ready to take them to the others when the buzzer for the door goes off and more pink guards enter the room, firing in the air and making everyone scream.
Hyun-ju reloads her SMG, ready to take on the entire group on guards by herself. You watch as Geum-ja puts a hand on her shoulder, stopping her.
"You can't die like this."
You sigh in relief as Hyun-ju puts the gun down. From your hidden area, you try to get the guns and mags away from you, making it seem as though the three of you have been here the whole time.
As the guards come further into the room, you use your body to shield Dae-ho from them as he whimpers. You make eye contact with Hyun-ju. Whatever happens next, you'll face it as a team.

Note
which pwhl player could handle the celebrity experience and athleticism of dancing with the stars? and would she win?
This is less of a thought experiment than you think because in 2019, Natalie Spooner finished in second place on Battle of the Blades, which was basically Dancing with the Stars but for figure skating!
youtube
She’s not the only WoHo player to participate — Tessa Bonhomme won Season 4, and Meghan Agosta, Jen Botterill, and Amanda Kessel have all been on the tournament. Kess was eliminated first in her season, which I feel like was unfair, but you can judge for yourself:
youtube
Also, a lot of athletes know basic social dance (waltz, tango, foxtrot) because at some point in their high school career they were told it would help with their coordination — and those coaches were probably right.

The Rhythm Between Us

Summary: When Keigo invites you to your first Pro Hero Gala, a spontaneous ballroom dance lesson turns into a night neither of you will forget.
Warnings: None (other than Keigo being dangerously charming in formal wear)
Note: As a result of my recent poll, here's everyone's favorite guy! Thanks for everyone participating :)

“Hey, babe.”
The word was barely out of his mouth before Keigo Takami, Pro Hero Hawks, flopped onto the couch beside you with a dramatic sigh, his wings twitching with just enough leftover energy to ruffle your hair. You glanced up from your phone, squinting at the man who’d just face-planted into a pillow like his entire career had drained him dry.
You reached over to gently fluff one of his messy golden strands. “Long day saving the world?”
“Endeavor made us sit through a three-hour meeting about eye contact and communication on the battlefield,” he groaned into the cushions. “I aged thirty years. I’m now a middle-aged man with a bad back and trust issues.”
You snorted. “So, nothing new.”
“Harsh.” He cracked one golden eye open to grin at you. “I come bearing news, and you mock me. This is how I’m treated?”
“Well, I suppose it depends on the news,” you said, pretending to ponder. “If it’s something like a villain attack or a reminder to take out the trash, I am going to mock you.”
He rolled onto his side and poked your arm. “It’s something better than both of those things combined, I swear.”
“Alright, birdbrain, out with it.” You chirp.
He perked up slightly and said, “There’s a Pro Hero Gala coming up. Fancy one. The kind with a red carpet and reporters and tiny weird hors d'oeuvres that cost like four thousand bucks apiece.”
You blinked. “Wait… really?”
“Yep,” he said, watching your eyes light up.
Your grin stretched wide. “I’ve never been to a hero gala!”
He raised a brow. “What? With how gorgeous you are, I assumed you had like… five invitations just waiting to be accepted.”
“Nope. Never been.” You sat up straighter, already imagining what you might wear, the soft flicker of chandeliers and champagne glasses. “Are we going together?”
He gave you a smirk that was more affection than arrogance. “I mean, if you’re not busy. I suppose I could find a tux…”
You swatted his shoulder. “Don’t act like you don’t love dressing up.”
“I love looking good,” he said. “Tuxes are restrictive. But for you?” His voice dropped to that velvet-soft hum. “I’ll wear a bow tie. Even the cummerbund.”
You laughed. “Now that’s true love.”
He kissed your knuckles like a storybook prince. “I try.”
Then, with a devilish little smile, he added, “One catch, though.”
You narrowed your eyes. “What?”
“There’s… dancing.”
“Even better,” you said, clapping your hands together with glee. “I’ve always wanted to dance at a fancy party. Like waltzing. The full-on spinning-in-a-ballroom, pretend-you’re-in-a-period-drama type thing.”
He winced.
You paused. “What?”
He made a sheepish face and buried it again in the pillow. “It’s like… proper, stuffy dancing. Not the fun kind. Like… arms-at-weird-angles, ‘good evening, my lady’ dancing.”
“I know,” you said. “And it’s amazing.”
Keigo looked up with a genuine pout. “You actually know how to do that kind of dancing?”
You grinned. “My parents put me in ballroom dance lessons when I was a kid. All the classics. Waltz, foxtrot, even the tango.”
He looked betrayed. “You never told me you were a ballroom ninja.”
You shrugged modestly. “It’s not the kind of thing that comes up in casual conversation. ‘Hey babe, pass the salt—also, I’m a god-tier waltzer.’”
He looked absolutely delighted. “This is incredible.”
You smiled sweetly. “So I take it you don’t know how to ballroom dance?”
He groaned. “I have zero clue. I move like a noodle when music starts. A very attractive noodle, but still.”
“Oh, babe.”
“Don’t patronize me. This is hard for me. I’m a majestic creature of the sky, not the dance floor.”
“Luckily for you,” you said, standing up and offering your hand with an elegant little bow, “You’re dating a ballroom ninja.”
He eyed your outstretched hand suspiciously. “Are we doing this now?”
“You’re gonna thank me at the gala when you’re the only guy not stepping on someone’s train.”
He sighed dramatically, then took your hand. “If I make a fool of myself, I demand cuddles as compensation.”
“Deal,” you said, pulling him to his feet. “Let’s start with the basic box step.”
After a few hours, you were able to get somewhere… barely.
“No, no, your other left,” you said, giggling as Keigo nearly spun you into a potted plant.
“I only have one left!” he cried, clutching your waist for dear life.
“You’re literally the number two pro hero. How is foot coordination this hard for you?”
“Because I can fly, not waltz!”
You were both laughing now, spinning ungracefully in the middle of your living room to classical music playing from your phone. Keigo had ditched his jacket long ago, sleeves rolled up, golden hair mussed, and his shirt sticking slightly to his chest. You were flushed, breathless, and entirely enamored.
“Okay, okay,” you said, pressing a hand to your chest. “Let’s slow it down. Just follow my lead.”
“You sure you want me this close?” he teased, sliding a hand to your waist and pulling you in with more grace than the dancing had shown so far. “You know I’m gonna find excuses to keep messing up.”
“I’m counting on it,” you said with a smirk.
For a moment, he looked at you differently, something in his eyes softening, like he was seeing you for the first time all over again.
Then he whispered, “You’re kind of magic, you know that?”
Your cheeks warmed. “You’re just saying that because I haven’t made you do the tango yet.”
He chuckled. “Nah. That’s a separate compliment. The tango thing scares me on a spiritual level.”
You laughed again, but there was a softness in your chest that didn’t fade. “You’re not bad at this, you know.”
“I’ve stepped on you twice.”
“Okay, yes. But you’ve improved. And you’re actually leading this time.”
He blinked. “I am?”
“Yep.” You smiled. “You’re a natural.”
“Don’t lie to me just because I’m pretty.”
“Pretty and learning,” you corrected.
He gave you a little twirl, and though it wasn’t perfect, you laughed and spun out, landing against his chest.
“You know what?” he murmured, brushing a strand of hair from your face. “I think I get it now.”
“Get what?”
“The appeal.” He gestured vaguely at the room, the music, the two of you tangled in a not-quite-ballroom embrace. “This kind of dancing. The cheesy, romantic, high-society thing. I always thought it was boring.”
“And now?” You ask.
His voice dropped, low and sincere. “Now it’s just another excuse to hold you.”
Your breath caught.
He leaned down, eyes never leaving yours. “I can learn the steps. Hell, I’ll take actual lessons. I don’t care if I fall on my face at the gala. As long as you’re in my arms.”
You melted right there, forehead resting against his. “You sap.”
“I learned from the best.”
“You’re gonna kill me with how sweet you are.”
“Just practicing for the gala. Gotta impress the press.”
You kissed him. Slow, light, and laughing. “You’ll impress them just fine.”
“Promise you won’t laugh at me when I mess up?”
“I’ll be too busy swooning.”
He grinned. “Then lead on, ballroom ninja. I’m yours.”
The Pro Hero Gala was even more extravagant than you'd imagined.
Marble floors gleamed beneath crystal chandeliers that looked like they belonged in royal castles. Reporters clustered behind velvet ropes, snapping photos and calling out names. Every major hero was there, Endeavor towering in his formal gear, Mirko in a sleek silver gown, even Aizawa begrudgingly dressed in a suit like he’d rather be anywhere else.
But the moment Keigo stepped out of the car with you on his arm, it felt like the rest of the world dipped into a blur.
He looked unfairly good. Black tux tailored perfectly to his frame, red wings carefully smoothed and gleaming under the lights like burnished gold. His tie was the exact shade of your gown, a detail he hadn’t mentioned, but you caught the subtle grin he gave when you noticed.
“Wow,” you whispered.
He leaned close. “You’re literally glowing. I think you just made the other women reevaluate their dresses.”
You rolled your eyes, but your blush betrayed you. “Shut up.”
“I’m trying,” he said. “But you make it really hard.”
You’d barely made it past the first round of greetings before Keigo leaned in and whispered, “Wanna dance before they try to trap me into a ‘statement on national hero infrastructure’ again?”
“God, yes.”
The ballroom was already filled with soft strings and elegant movement, gowns gliding like mist and shoes tapping lightly across polished floors.
Keigo led you to the edge of the floor, then paused.
“You ready?” he asked, voice gentler now. “It’s the real deal. People watching, real music, pressure’s on.”
You looked up at him with a soft smile. “I’m not worried.”
He exhaled like you’d given him courage, then held out a hand. “Let’s make 'em jealous.”
You stepped into his arms, and he moved.
Not perfectly. Not textbook. But it was him. He remembered the steps. Guided you confidently, posture tall, wings tucked just enough to avoid brushing any gowns, but not so close he didn’t look utterly majestic. And he smiled, god, he smiled like this was the only thing that mattered.
“See?” you whispered. “You’re doing amazing.”
He twirled you, catching your hand just in time to pull you back against his chest. “I told you. I’ve got the best teacher.”
A few reporters on the edges were watching now, raising cameras. But Keigo didn’t even glance at them. His eyes were on you, like the crowd didn’t exist.
The music swelled.
And then, he did it.
He swept you into a lift. No warning. Just one strong arm at your back, the other around your waist, and suddenly your feet left the ground.
Your dress flared, floating midair for one weightless moment, and you gasped, eyes wide, heart in your throat.
Cheers and claps rippled across the room.
You looked down at him, stunned. “Keigo!”
He grinned up at you, breathless. “I saw it in a movie once. Figured, if I was gonna fall, I might as well fall big.”
“You didn’t fall,” you said, voice trembling with adrenaline and awe.
He lowered you slowly, reverently, like you were made of silk.
“No,” he whispered, pulling you close again. “I just fell for you.”
The band hit the final note.
He dipped you low and kissed you. Right there in front of everyone.
Camera flashes. Applause. Gasps.
You didn’t care.
It was soft. Warm. Sweet enough to break something open in your chest. When he brought you upright again, your heart was racing, your smile aching.
“I think you just made us the center of attention,” you murmured.
He didn’t even look away from you. “Good. Let ‘em look.”
And in that moment, with the ballroom spinning and your pulse still sky-high from his spontaneous lift, it wasn’t about the cameras or the gala or the hero rankings.
It was just you and him.
Like always. Like the world had shrunk to the space between his hands and your heartbeat.
And when the music started again, you didn’t even think, you just leaned in, cheek to his shoulder, and whispered,
“I want every dance with you.”
Keigo squeezed your waist, smile pressed against your hair.
“You’ve got ‘em,” he murmured. “All of ‘em. Forever.”

If Sydney and Elijah’s dance is waltz, here are some other characters dances, taken from my own dance experience:
Sydney and Jedidiah would do a foundation-level hustle because 1) it’s not in the usual frame, with the proximity and hand-on-waist and all of that, it’s only loosely holding hands, which I think Jedidiah would enjoy. And 2) it’s a simple 4-count rocking back and forth, which I also think Jedidiah would like because it’s a steady ticking, and I think Sydney would be able to do alright because it’s not complicated nor particularly strenuous. Also one of the half-spins is nicknamed “sweetheart” which I think is cute—
Adam would do some kind of dramatic routine, like tango (either American or Argentine), salsa/bachata, or some other Latin dance because I feel that this man is nothing if not a sultry show-off. Hip movement and fluidity are his favorite elements, so anything that satisfies that desire would be fine by him.
Elijah himself knows a lot of things besides waltz, including Rhumba (of Death—), foxtrot/foxy, and salsa/bachata. Latin, ballroom, rhythm… he could do a bit of it all; this variety made him very fun at parties and other social gatherings.

ACES AT THE WATER'S EDGE - ROY KENT.
PLAYLIST. AO3. MASTERLIST.
with the departure of afc richmond's wonderkid, the club is desperately on the hunt for a new coach. lucky for them, you’ve just been wrongfully terminated from your position over at west ham. however, with your outlook on the football world tainted and massive hesitation due to your past with a particular member of its coaching staff, you’re less than convinced about the job. but, that same person may just be the reason you change your tune.
told through alternating timelines, you and roy must work to be the neutral, very mature adults you are and navigate the results of your nearly decade-long feud in order to lead richmond to victory. because that's what you are. neutral. everything between you two stops at the water's edge.
but there are absolutely no feelings involved. absolutely none.
PARTS, CHAPTERS, & MORE.
0. extra, extra!
1. bolt from the blue.
2. fox in the box.
3. the kids ain't fine, fine.
4. whiskey, tango, foxtrot.
5. eye to eye (for an eye).
more to come!
(SERIES WARNINGS/TAGS! enemies with a past to forced colleagues to lovers, slow burn (-ish? in a way? dual timelines, you’ll see), eventual smut so 18+!, major angst (*ben wyatt voice* it’s about the yearning.), swearing (duh), mentions of and allusions to (no descriptions of) sa and workplace harassment, seasons 1-3 spoilers, keeley is a friend not a foe (dear god, is she a friend), major fluff, and major usa women’s soccer influence. also author is american. sorry<3)

Welcome to Smoshing With The Stars! How this is going to work is I'm going to put my cast (shown here) through a DWTS simulation I found that's going to put them through random song/dance combos, scores, and eliminations until we have one winner! I have it set so there's 11 weeks and 15 teams, and I will probably do one week per day. Feel free to get into it, name the teams, talk about the dances and eliminations, who you're rooting for, etc. because I think this could be really fun if we get invested lmao.
Without any further ado, here's Week 1 of Smoshing With The Stars!
First up we have Ian and Emma dancing an Argentine Tango to the GLEE VERSION of Cell Block Tango and getting a near perfect score on WEEK ONE!! An excellent start to our season and an unexpectedly impressive start for Ian
Tumblr media
Next up we have Shayne and Sharna dancing a Samba to Hip Hip Chin Chin. A Samba week one is HARD, but they got a 26/30, so it seemed like it payed off for them. I feel like Shayne was someone who I thought would either be really good or pretty bad lmaoo so I'm happy to see him starting off SO well!
Tumblr media
Dancing a Charleston to "Charleston" it's Anthony and Britt! Again, I feel like we don't usually get Charleston's week one (if ever anymore lol). I know this seems like a big dip in scores, but 18/30 is pretty average for week one so I'm excited to see how he improves!
Tumblr media
Dancing a Tango to "Dash" we have Amanda and Gleb! I didn't know this song but I listened to the little preview and it's an interesting song for a Tango? but I can see how they could probably make it work. I mean we've had weirder song/dance combos before lmao. Clearly they made it work because a 24/30 is also great for week one!
Tumblr media
Dancing a Contemporary to "XO" we have Trevor and Rylee! This sim is really doing some interesting dances for week one lol like I feel like they don't start doing contemporaries until week 5 at the earliest or something. However Trevor dancing to Beyoncé is iconic and I'm so here for this! 22/30 I feel like is realistic for a typical "top of the leaderboard dancer" for week one. They usually don't give 9s and 10s but 7s and 8s is accurate for a good dance I feel like. Although, I think I need to take realism out the window for this simulation lmaoo because Ian started this show out with a near perfect score! I'm really excited for this partnership, so I hope they do well!
Tumblr media
Next we have ARASHA AND VAL DANCING A QUICKSTEP TO "WINGS!!" I'm SO excited for this partnership omg and I'm LIVING for the Little Mix inclusion as someone who was a huge Little Mix fan when I was younger! They need to include more Little Mix songs on the show, but that's another topic for another day lol. Again 23/30 is GREAT for week one like everyone is doing so well so far! I'd love to see this dance omg I feel like Arasha and Val would be such a fire pairing!! I really hope they go far too!
Tumblr media
Next we have Jackie and Brandon dancing a Foxtrot to "L-O-V-E" Noo this is our first bad dance so far 😭 IT'S JUST A FLUKE I PROMISE!! No because I KNOW Jackie would do soo well on dwts! I have faith in this couple that they will improve! 15/30 is not the best score but it's still early and I believe Jackie will have some good dances!
Tumblr media
Dancing a Contemporary to "love again" it's Chanse and Daniella! Noo I had SO much faith in Chanse and Daniella I'm so sad they didn't do that well 😭 We all know Chanse would get to the finales on the real dwts so Chanse better come back and KILL IT next week! This is one of my top couples so I really hope they do well!
Tumblr media
Dancing an Argentine Tango to "Quizád, Quizás, Quizás" it's Damien and Witney! Damien doing an Argentine Tango omg I'd DIE. Also very excited for this couple lmao and a 23/30 is veryy good for week one so I hope they do well too! Now I don't know too much about ballroom, but I feel like this song is a little slow for an Argentine Tango based on the preview but clearly they did some editing to the song to make it more upbeat and fit more. At least it's actually a Spanish song and not some random pop song so it's definitely a LOT easier to make it work lol.
Tumblr media
Dancing a Tango to "Hurry Up and Save Me" (from A Cinderella Story?? 😭) is Olivia and Sasha! I'm gonna be honest and say this is one of those couples I wouldn't be TOO sad to get eliminated 😅 but they did pretty decent for week one too! Again weird song and dance combos lmaoo but let's see how they do moving forward!
Tumblr media
Dancing a Viennese Waltz to "happier" it's Courney and Jenna! Wuh uh wuh!! Unfortunately they did so bad for some reason 😭 This had so much potential to do well so idk what happened to them omg. Courtney just had stage fright or something I SWEAR COURTNEY WOULD KILL 😭 I love you please don't explode get eliminated
Tumblr media
Dancing an Argentine Tango to "Castle Walls" it's Angela and Pasha! Angela was another one like Shayne where I was like "she'd do incredible or flop" 💀 and she seems to be doing incredible!! Very excited to see where this goes and hope that Pasha doesn't get eliminated by week 3 like he usually does 😭
Tumblr media
Dancing a Viennese Waltz to "So Close" it's Tommy and Alan! Ok this is actually seems like a good song for a Viennese Waltz so I'm so here for this! Also first mlm couple on dwts wooo!!! They did pretty mid but hopefully they have a chance to show their growth!
Tumblr media
Dancing a Jive to "good 4 u" it's Kimmy and Ezra! This song would kill as a Jive actually omg! They'll probably do this at some point irl lmao. Again pretty mid but I feel like they have potential to do really well! Ezra is a new pro so I can't say too much about his teaching skills, but I think Kimmy has potential to be a good dancer so I'm excited!
Tumblr media
Last but not least! Dancing an Argentine Tango to "Partition" we have Spencer and Koko! This is a CRAZY image omggg!! He kinda ate for week one so imagine Spencer unexpectedly crushing an Argentine Tango to PARTITION?!? Actually SO excited for them now omg! (Also bring Koko back as a pro PLEASE 🙏)
Tumblr media
We have finished all our dances and have our scores, but before we get into our first elimination, let's take a look at our final leaderboard!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now on to our first elimination *cue dramatic music and lights* It's... Courney and Jenna 😭 NOOOO!! MY SHAYLAS!! Homophobia at its finest smh 🙄 They deserved better!! They did have the lowest scores so I guess it makes sense but I'm SO sad 😭
Tumblr media
That concludes Week One of Smoshing With the Stars! Everybody say goodbye to Courney and Jenna (the credits started to roll as soon as their names got called) Come back tomorrow to see what happens Week Two!

t/v tango is objectively one of the better fds of the season in that it's memorable and cunty and works for them, but it's also such a direct comparison to older ice dance (pre-2022) that it just makes me sad. the only top team tango fd we've had in the entire quad and it has maybe fifteen seconds of tango/foxtrot hold combined and the dancers directly performing to the audience instead of to each other. judges and fans are eating it up and i get it and the current state of ice dance is obviously not t/v's fault, but like... what are we doing here man

YANDERE REDS (and blues too if it's not too much work!) WHO UHHH see you talking to someone (that isn't on the team) longer than unnecessary,,, to the point they're taking all your time and attention
— 💌 anon (gonna stick around for a whiiileee im on a halo binge 👅👅👅) (also thank you for the rvb food you literally saved me from dehydration) (lemme know if emote is taken)
I am also on a Halo binge. 💌 emote is not taken so you are free to do so. 🫶
Gotta feed and water all the yandere lovers. I know a lot of you are very parched.
Hmm. Four that immediately come to mind are Blue (Church and Tucker) and Red (Grif and Sarge).
꒰ა Church ໒꒱
He is the embodiment of this >:( emoticon.
Expect a totally healthy amount of expletives to leave his mouth.
He'll try to act like he isn't insanely jealous but you can totally tell. He's constantly trying tarnish whatever image you have of them.
He's in his "bitch plus mood," as Tucker puts it.
He's angrily kicking rocks and muttering to himself. He disappears at odd times. Those odd times are spent trying to snipe down the person you have been favoring. It doesn't go too well.
He can't express his feelings so he acts like a constipated toddler.
꒰ა Tucker ໒꒱
Bow Chicka Whiskey Tango Foxtrot
Is his swagger not fuckable enough for you?
He tries his best to act unaffected, but he feels like a third wheel. He flirts so much more around you. He keeps his attention only on you. You really can't be this dense. He can hardly believe it.
If he gets angry enough he may sway his energy sword around. He'll "jokingly" challenge the person whose been taking up all your time to a duel. He doesn't plan on playing fair. He also doesn't want to completely kill them, because that's kinda fucked up. However, if it secures your sweet sweet body as his, then it's worth it.
ʚ Grif ɞ
Ugh, now he can't even nap in peace! He was going to take his third nap of the day when he realized you weren't there―again. You've been skipping snack time and nap time with him. He knows it hasn't been to do actual work because you haven't been as tired as you usually are.
He's even grumpier when he realizes you've been spending all your time with a certain someone.
How is he going to compete with that? He doesn't even want to compete! He hates competing, unless it's who can eat the most or go without moving the longest.
He's incredibly hurt and will try to drag you away everytime he sees you with them. Screw whatever you're trying to accomplish. Another relationship besides you and him? Fuck that. He'll smother you for a little while. Maybe after getting a taste of him again you'll remember what you're missing.
ʚ Sarge ɞ
He's immediately ordering his soldier to stop their fratenernizing with the enemy force. No Reds will flirt with you. He's made sure of that. Maybe he had to break a few bones to do so, but he got the message across quite effectively.
He'll just shoot them point blank. Whether he actually hits his target or not is another story. Those dammed Blues are the enemy! No way in any hell are you being romanced by one of them.
It sends a clear message: you belong to Sarge. Anyone who gets in the way will get a bullet to the head.

Some thoughts about Chandelure Hybrid!Ingo x GN!Reader
Tumblr media
Below the cut for length. Fluff in the first half. NSFT will be past the divide halfway through. Specific warnings for that portion will be there.
Ingo usually floats a half inch or so above the floor. It feels natural for him to float, but he knows most humans find it uncomfortable, so he compromises.
Music, and especially dancing is a big part of Chandelure hybrid culture.
He would looove to dance with you
The "courting" dances of chandelure hybrids typically come in two flavors-
Upbeat and bouncy: These dances can be both platonic or romantic. Samba, Swing, and Foxtrot are all common.
They're mostly just meant to be fun, and to encourage compatibility and cooperation.
Because they aren't necessarily romantic, this kind of dance can be used to "test the waters" of a relationship without any expectation, sort of like subtly flirting.
Ingo is especially playful during these dances. He'll swing with you about and around until you're both falling into each others arms and giddy laughing so hard you can't stop. He feels like this is right where he belongs when he's dancing with you.
Romantic dances are slower and more serious, like a waltz, tango, or bachata.
The steely fire in his eyes when you dance a waltz with him sends shivers of excitement down your spine. You get the feeling he's looking right into your soul - and maybe he is!
He's an exceptionally graceful dancer. When you move together, the whole world fades away until its just the two of you, hearts beating as one.
Ingo is always warm, but he tempers his flames when you're near so you don't burn up.
He's your personal space heater. Cuddles after a winter walk are so so very warm and cozy! He likes to be near your heart because it's the closest he can get to feeling your spirit. Listening to your heartbeat is very soothing.
Hide under his coat for extra warm snuggles when Gear Station gets chilly!
Be prepared. Litwicks naturally flock to him so you might have a small gaggle that shows up from time to time.
He'll be over the moon if you show them affection. He loves to see them. It makes him think about having a family one day.
.
.
.
Nsft below this point. Warnings for: Massaging, temperature play, warm oils, wax play, non-penetrative sex, and one (1) singular spank
.
.
.
Those firm hands run over your arms, down your back and legs, massaging a warm and musky, floral-scented oil into your muscles.
His hands are big and firm, calloused from hard work and pokemon training, and they feel so nice along the sides of your body, kneading into your muscles and rubbing out the tension that builds up each day.
By the time he's done, you're relaxed and pliant in his arms, ready to melt away for him.
The scent is so relaxing - and he likes smelling it on you after. It's a nice memory of being together (it also helps others of his kind know you're taken)
On tamer nights, he'll slide in behind you and run his hand down your body, between your legs, and rub you so gently until you release in the softest orgasm of your life, the world fading to a mist of white - leaving only you and him.
When you look up at him with those eyes, still hazy from orgasm but so full of adoration, he falls even deeper in love with you.
He loves wax play, though that's an admittedly more common kink among chandelure hybrids.
He's always very careful with material choice and temperature. Unlike fire-type hybrids, humans can't have wax too hot without getting hurt.
Ingo is very choosy with his candles - he likes those with extra smooth wax that he can run his fingers through.
It looks so pretty, dripping onto your skin in all those colors. He likes to observe the patterns it makes on you. He especially likes the red marks it leaves once its all over.
He loves to make trails of wax that his hands or tongue will dutifully follow.
The heat is nice, but never too overwhelming unless you want it to be. Because he's a fire type, he has some control over how warm it burns.
Each drop that hits your skin stings with a hot flash of pain that feels so nice. The heat radiates against your skin, lingering even as the wax cools.
It seems to pierce right through you, sending waves of heat straight down to your core.
If you think you're done once the candle is gone, you're wrong. He can remelt the wax with just a touch, sending rivulets down your bare chest and stomach.
Better still down over the curve of your ass, where he'll give your round cheeks a firm smack to shatter them.
As it cools on your skin, he'll blow on it to send shivers up your body. If your back isn't arching and you're not shaking from just his breath on you, he won't be satisfied.
Checks in with you periodically throughout to make sure you're doing okay.
"Is it too hot, my dear? Does it feel nice? Tell me where you want me to drip it..."
After your session is done, count on him to take care of you. He'll peel away any remaining wax, offer you a soothing shower or bath, and smooth healing aloe and lotions over your skin. He wants you to be in good shape for next time, after all.

Announcing: Obiyuki Week 2024
Tumblr media
Welcome back one and all to our ninth annual Obiyuki Week! Our theme this year is:
Ballroom Dance
Each day will have a form of dance for a prompt, as well as a few themes that can be used to inspire works or continue existing ones. This ship week is open to all Obiyuki works, so even if a submission does not quite fit the day, please feel free to post and join in!
Day 1: Quadrille
Tumblr media
Introduced in France around 1760, the Quadrille quickly became popular in 18th and 19th century ballrooms across Europe. It is performed by four couples in a square, with one couple at a time dancing while the other three rest. Although not performed in modern competitions, the quadrille late gave rise to other popular forms of dance, such as the waltz and American square dancing.
Themes: Change of Partners, Ensemble Piece, Meddling Matchmakers; White
Day 2: Foxtrot
Tumblr media
Premiering in 1914, the Foxtrot was first danced to ragtime music before becoming the dance of choice for big bands from the late 1910s through the 1940s. Known for its elegant glide across the dance floor and quick steps, the foxtrot has since split into slow and quick versions-- also known as the quickstep
Themes: Compatibility, Banter, Swept Off Their Feet; Blue
Day 3: Paso Doble
Tumblr media
Originating in Spain, the Paso Doble's dramatic steps are meant to imitate the movements of a bullfight, with the lead playing matador and the follow being either cape or bull. It is often known as the "man's dance," since it displays the lead position-- traditionally male-- to its best advantage.
Themes: Conflict, Obi POV, Vying For Dominance; Red
Day 4: Viennese Waltz
Tumblr media
The first ballroom dance to be danced in closed position-- aka, partners hold each other while facing toward each other-- the Viennese Waltz caused a scandal when it was introduced in late 18th century ballrooms. It became fashionable during the Regency period, though it remained "riotous and indecent" as late 1825.
Themes: Scandal, Tradition, Falling in Love; Silver
Day 5: Rhumba
Tumblr media
The slowest of the Latin dances performed in modern competition, the Rhumba was first danced in the streets of Cuba before gaining popularity in the early 20th century and becoming what is now known as Ballroom Rumba. Known for its sensual movements and emphasis on hips, it is both known as the "dance of love" and the "woman's dance" for showing off the skill of its follow.
Themes: Intimate, Shirayuki POV, Hips Don't Lie; Green
Day 6: Tango
Tumblr media
Another dance tamed to the tastes of ballroom-goers, the Tango originated as an improvisational dance in the lower-class neighborhoods of Buenos Aires and was brought to the United States by immigrants in the early 20th century. It is characterized by drama and passion and precise footwork.
Themes: Passion, Close Quarters, Rivals-to-Lovers; Black
Day 7: West Coast Swing (Free Day)
Tumblr media
Evolving from the Lindy Hop of the 1930s, West Coast Swing started as an adaptation of the dance to fit a more crowded dance floor, before gaining popularity as a style all its own in the 1960s. Meant to be improvisational and playful, it best showcases the connection between partners.
Themes: Improvising, Adventure, Friends-to-Lovers; Gold

Alex V. “Ajax” Johnson moodboard + random headcannons
Tumblr media
-his middle name is Vance
-from southwest USA area (Arizona/New Mexico/Nevada/Texas)
-middle child, had two sisters that he loved so so dearly (“my girls” is how he’d refer to them. everyone that really knew him knew about his girls back at home)
-had the best sense of humor amongst the Ghosts, next to Kick and Rorke (and Merrick, believe it or not)
-epitome of stubborn, absolutely didn’t give a fuck (view: him flipping the Feds off while being tortured). was both a gift and a curse for him
-knew Keegan since they were teens (canon bc of Sand Viper, but I like to think they go back a little further than that)
-blues/punk/rock/industrial/hip hop/classical/alternative listener. 70s music lover
-first in his family to join the military. his mother nearly had a heart attack
-favorite Ghost aside from Keegan was Rorke, big mentor for him. made the betrayal sting even more, watching the man abandon the values he helped instill in him
-had the gene that makes cilantro taste like soap
-Sand Viper felt like a fever dream to him, and it took a while to even remotely calm his nervous system down. he had nightmares for a while, like most of them did, and would sleep near Keegan whenever possible
-^he considered it what made him a man rather than a boy
-used to prank Rorke and Elias on base with the other guys. if anyone got caught, it was usually him (you could always hear him snickering off in the background somewhere)
-was pretty close with Torch before he went missing
-being the youngest/least experienced member during the Legends Never Die mission was daunting to him. Keegan, although only by a year, was always the youngest, so he felt a ton of pressure for that reason
-mediocre dancer, except for classic ballroom type dances actually. grew up watching his parents do the foxtrot and waltz, so his tango skills were swoon worthy
-^which was a weapon because he’s also very very charming. flirted in an either lighthearted and jokey way or an absolutely bewitching and alluring way. typa guy to quite literally charm his way into your pants
-very ironically used to dress up as a ghost for Halloween when he was a kid a lot. he wondered if maybe he was always destined to be one, either as a part of the task force or his inevitable demise
-had a wide and pretty smile, naturally straight teeth that lit his face up when he grinned (like I imagine Hesh would have too)
-looked the best of all the Ghosts with the standard military issue buzz cut. could pull off any hairstyle he was given (cus he was handsome lmfao, that’s it)
-did band in middle school. his sisters teased him for being a flute player instead of doing sports but bless his heart he was good at it!
-was a littleeee bit of a nerd. Could bond with Kick over techy stuff sometimes
-would dream about the sunsets from his hometown when shit got particularly rough, especially during his early marine days. the desert skies brought him peace

Saw x Strictly- How I’d pair up characters & how well they’d do (long shitpost)
This is probably a post nobody asked for but I’m gonna do it anyways.
🪩✨🪩✨🪩✨🪩
Tumblr media
So if you’re not familiar with Strictly Come Dancing, it’s a reality competition show where celebrities get paired with professional dancers to learn and perform ballroom & Latin dancing. In the U.K, it’s a national obsession in the autumn and as the launch (pairing up) show just aired, I figured what if I combined both of my hyperfixations together- Strictly & Saw?
Here’s how I’d pair up Saw characters with professional dancers on the show and how far they’d probably go in the competition.
Tumblr media
Adam Stanheight
Partner: Jowita (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/37TFtVM2jqYmfPGFp9Cj3NK/jowita-przystal)
I feel like Adam would be really shy on the dancefloor initially but could prove a dark horse. His song choices would consist of mostly alternative & rock music that may not work with each dance.
Tumblr media
Mark Hoffman
Partner: Luba (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/4BBntjb43XQWY3wXRXBbpgJ/luba-mushtuk)
I feel like Mark would be really confident at the Latin dances like cha cha but would struggle with slow, elegant dances like waltz or foxtrot. His best dance would be a tango or a cha cha.
Tumblr media
Dr Cecilia Pederson
Partner: Johannes (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/4xtShnS9l3dZR7JpKbZFRbJ/johannes-radebe)
Cecilia would be a really good dancer both in ballroom and with the Latin. She seems like she could absolutely slay an Argentine tango with intense kicks and passion.
Tumblr media
Dr Lawrence Gordon
Partner: Lauren (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/49659smpn858hH9FM9dVVJ/lauren-oakley)
Larry seems like he’d be a ballroom boy. He’d be a little awkward at the Latin dances but for foxtrot, he’d do good. His best dance would probably be a foxtrot or tango.
Tumblr media
Amanda Young
Partner: Katya (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/58cX5MHzgN1dRlvpV4NTYYg/katya-jones)
Amanda would be a frontrunner and would slay a paso doble.
Tumblr media
Daniel Rigg
Partner: Amy (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/2nXjFzBvrgvH4sH1GzyddqD/amy-dowden)
Daniel would definitely go far. He seems like he’d have so much rhythm but also elegance. He gives me “would be good at a rumba on Strictly” vibes which is something you can’t say about most men.
Tumblr media
Lindsey Perez
Partner: Nikita (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/5mQLZXYSrW4Jrg5mHKmLgjm/nikita-kuzmin)
Lindsey would very likely reach the final. My headcanon is that Lindsey did street dance & has a soft spot for some musical theatre. She’d slay a salsa and jive.
Tumblr media
Peter Strahm
Partner: Nancy (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/2BwLYh5tQK1Z19DyRjRxdPG/nancy-xu)
Peter seems like he’d do really well at the sharp dances like a tango, paso or Argentine tango.
Tumblr media
Simone Bethson
Partner: Gorka (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/54g42sGcLzGrr04HSYZFT9P/gorka-marquez)
Simone would be really good at the Latin dances.

Hope you’ve enjoyed my incredibly British Saw shitpost.
