I want him to complain about the archivists asking him so many questions about the high republic Jedi while he’s still clearly angry at them. I want Cal to be the only Jedi he likes (constantly trying to convince him to let go of the code and that the Jedi sucked but like subtlety and sporadically) but tolerating Cere and Cordova for him. I want him and Bode to be suspicious of each other but see how much the other cares for Cal and let it be besides subtle jabs at each other every now and then. I want him to be part of the crew ;~;

Molly's Rougarou Research Rodent Skull

While working on a different (pair of) post(s), I was gathering some screenshots I didn't have yet, and one of them* inspired me to dig further into exactly what type of rodent skull might've been sketched on Molly's research page for the Rougarou (as I initially noted in my last reblog of this discussion, and how the silhouette of the skull looks somewhat similar to the Rougarou's curious beak and teeth arrangement). *(In addition to the windowsill figurines, Mrs. Pearle has a set of five cross stitches on her walls that serve as nods to each of the mythical creatures! Including a mermaid I've not seen elsewhere and a white rabbit that, by process of elimination, should be for the Rougarou...because she doesn't have any other owl wall-hangings or bonus figurines that I could see. Though I suppose she is missing a Benjy-related figurine, so maybe each set only has four nods, and the bonus rabbit is just because it's cute...)

Fortunately, the artbook has the Rougarou research page in it (plus a few others, but not all, alas). So I have a nice clean reference image for comparison:

As for what the skull might be...rat/mice skulls are too flat across the top. Rabbits have too big an anchor point on the back of their lower jaws for biting muscles. And most squirrels seem to have too smooth of an arch along the top of their skulls...but flying squirrels (and a couple others) seem to have the slight brow ridge, the back of their lower jaw comes to a similar short point, and the nasal bone comes far enough forward, relative to Molly's sketch. So altogether, unless there's another rodent I wasn't able to find that's even closer, flying squirrel seems to be a decent match! (Plus there's the "flying"/gliding parallel, which is neat.)

It also occurred to me that the pile of bones sketched on the bottom wouldn't just be a coincidental pile that she'd have been able to observe from her lair with giant binoculars or a telescope...the fuzz around the edges makes it seem like an owl pellet that's been dissected. So, while she may or may not have lingered (for music and/or to listen to Jolene vent about struggling to help foster kids), I believe she did indeed go down to the sawmill at some point to take a rougarou pellet for study.

(Flying squirrel fun fact that I spotted while skimming wikipedia: they fluoresce under UV light, while normal squirrels do not. I found this doubly delightful since it reminded me that some birds also have feathers that fluoresce, with owls having it occur on their wings. So one could assume that a rougarou might, as well...)

As always I LOVE making the hellhounds as emo/goth/scene as possible I think that’s what’s most fashionable within themselves with all the collars chains and ripped clothes and stuff

Hellhound adoption is very common in hell so demon royals and the richest sinners tend to adopt puppies for luxurious purposes though they tend to be very out of touch with the hounds themselves (resulting in hounds like the poodle girl at the beginning of Queen Bee). While only purebreds are adopted quickly that’s never stopped the adoption centers from lying. Loona’s sibling were taken quickly as they resemble most only one of their parents while Loona is the most noticiable mixed of the litter

Where her siblings are now? Probably enjoying the pool and green grass at some rich bastards yard and getting to shit in their shoes consequences free. Something that’d make Loona green with envy

oofda Severance went from what's gotta be the best episode in the series-- visually, emotionally, character drive, general plot development, etc.-- to probably the weakest. Dgmw, I absolutely adore Patricia Arquette's performance as this sad off-putting woman and was eager for a Cobel check-in, but back-to-back bottleneck episodes leading up the finale was a TERRIBLE pacing choice, just completely missing the mark in a season that has already been plagued with pacing issues-- I'm lookin' at you, beloved by many but meh to me bc I have never been a melly shipper & thought it was a frustrating cut-away from the previous episode's dramatic final moment, Woe's Hollow-- & did not really provide much new information/plot momentum to make up for it-- yeah yeah Cobel lifelong Kier cultist, child labor & mommy issues, groomed & exploited scientific prowess, Lumon ruining anachronistic ether-huffing towns economically & spiritually; didn't really dig deeper or meaningfully build on anything we already know of in a away that needed to be a full break-away episode for, imo. Coulda & shoulda been the b-plot to a Milchick's continued spirit breaking/background to Ms. Huang (which would have very much thematically tied together to each!) -focused episode. And considering how short the episode is compared to the rest, I kind of suspect it might have began production that way but it was changed for some reason further along, but that's purely vibes based speculation.

These pacing issues paired with the knowledge that there are only nine episodes a season in this silly era of television, I am increasingly nervous about the finale, particularly considering ms dipshit mama bear super sibling withOUT a background in neuroscience who thinks she knows better than the scientist who was already digging around inside his noggin Devon followed through and reached Cobel 🤦‍♂️ like, clearly there are cracks in Cobel's Kier worship/Lumon militancy-- I think she has an ego that 1) cannot forgive how tossed away she was, especially with the newest detail of her being the overlooked inventor of the severance technology, & 2) despite the indoctrination, she has enough self-preservation to bridge the cognitive dissonance that rationalizes Lumon's abuses now that it's HER that might get locked away in the mind wipe torture basement-- but you're watching a different show in a different universe if you think we've gotten any evidence to strongly indicate that she is actually trustworthy. As the inventor of the chip she could be the perfect person to help Mark with the final reintegration steps... or, as I suspect will be more along the lines of what will happen, she could activate any of the other "modes" that have so far been only eluded to/cause further brain damage/betray mark & ragbhari to leverage herself into a better position with lumon/whatever will benefit her in her quest for... well, besides survival & credit for her invention, I really can't say for sure what her motivations currently are, but legitimate compassion & concern for Mark/the innies certainly are not among them.

Idk, just overall I think this season has put its hands in too many plot pies, especially now that the other outies have been given more character development time, a choice I've liked overall but that has not been 😏 integrated 😏 well with the rest of the story, largely because (forgive my repeating myself) of the pacing/9 episode limit-- we've gotten the central Mark reintegration plot, then we have melly romance b-plot, dylan emotional affair with his own wife c-plot, outie irv + his relationship to the testing floor & whatever the fuck is going on with burt/his husband d & e-plot, milchick being racially micro-aggressed f-plot, ms huang & the spectre of child labor g-plot, nasty lady helena eagan & her sinister side swept blunt bang h-plot, whatever cobel's deal is i-plot, the general overarching What Evil Mysterious Schemes is Lumon Up To j to whatever plot, and finally, the most pressing plot point to me that has been frustratingly shelved until episode 7, What's Happening to Gemma plot. I don't expect nor want wrapped packages with bows, but satisfying narratives involve give and take, and I simply don't have much confidence in the real estate provided by the 49 remaining minutes of the season that we'll get much of anywhere (except mad over what bad things are likely about to happen to Gemma, that is one thing I have begrudging confidence in 😔)

if i am not mistaken Sol is marze's stranger, but does Sol have a sunny counterpart, or has he jsut not been drawn yet?

if not i totally get that but im just wondering because sol is a very cool character to me esp with his whole god parallels and stuff,, and what kind of role does sol play? does he kinda peek in and out when marze needs a breather most, or a constant, or just an anomaly?

and for art purposes... does sol have a sunny face or is he different entity..

also ugreigrjeg i was thinking ab marze's lantern.. an how it runs on blood.... and for some reason i was thinking "yeah ok the world of marzenie is shaped like heart and... hearts have blood" and also thinking deltarune and... my brain went "what if marze harvested blood for his lantern by like stabbing the earth kris deltarune style, pretty much representing how he's actively harming himself to continue being in marzenie, as he feels he deserves" and i felt the distinct need to share this for no reason

I LOVE THIS ASK… Sol

So first thing, yes Sol is like Basil’s stranger, No Sol has no other counterparts (i don’t count the moon parasite as a counterpart)

This has a lot to do with the fact that Marzenie is so involuntary for Basil, in fact he tries to separate it as much as he can from the real world due to his guilt around how people are represented in Marzenie

As for how close Sol and Sunny are? Well, I tend to think of Sol as like Sunny but with everything that could be perceived as a “flaw” removed, his hair is separated in neat, defined shapes, His face is smoothed out like varnished wood, and most of all… Sol is Happy, because that’s the one thing Basil truly NEEDS Sunny to be, those other differences are more a reflection of Basil failing to see the ways Sunny has messed up (the biggest of these being his perception of ‘fault’ for Mari’s death, this is one of the reasons I characterize Sol as a bit naive, he’s supposed to a being of true innocence, someone ultimately INCAPABLE of doing wrong)

Visually, here’s how I draw them

The general shapes are the same but Sol’s features are just that tiniest bit exaggerated… like Barbie’s with their big eyes

And with how he appears, I’d say he shows up when Basil really does NEED him, he’s a wandering presence that Marze spends his time searching for but he only actually shows himself when Marze needs help achieving a goal that would otherwise be impossible or escaping from some kind of danger- he’s Basically a deus ex machina but without the machina- I have it in my head that there’s several things that are “scripted losses” in Marzenie (me using game terms again) where Marze gets into mortal peril and out of nowhere… a wooden hand pushes open a door, or holds a rope on place or moves a inconvenient roadblock- but he’s always gone before Marze has the chance to interact with him

hope that enlightens things a bit around Sol and his Nature, another thing I’d like to point out is that the biggest reasons I describe Sol as a parallel for stranger is that while Stranger is a distressing presence that will ultimately push Sunny in the right direction, Sol is the opposite, a comforting presence that will ultimately push Basil in the wrong direction…
