What are fingers? (I don't know) And another post of Ymir adoration

I'm so confused trying to realize the logic behind the existence of the Fingercreeps. We have Ymir. He's a high priest. A former follower of the Moon. A Carian - he taught young Rellana, confessed the stars and chanted them, and he is also obsessed with the Fingers (or rather, their birth). Beneath his cathedral can be found Metyr, the Mother of the Fingers. As well as under the cathedral of Manus Celes, the Two Fingers that Ranni killed.

(Also they look much more like Metyr than Two Fingers from Roundtable hold)

These cathedrals are ancientt. And the Fingers have always been there; we can tell from the name that they are cathedrals erected on the site of the Fingers. As best we can tell, High Priest Ymir is VERY closely related to the Carian sorcerers - he also has in his arsenal spell of Miriam that attacks us in the Carian library. Plus, the statue in the Carian library shows him wearing robes like Rennala's and a headdress similar to Ymir's.

But I can't understand - if the Fingers have always been around the Carian family, how could the Liurnian Wars have happened? The Liurnian Wars were a conflict between the Golden Order and the sorcerers. One didn't want to accept the laws of the other. But the Two Fingers (and other fingers) - the RETRANSLATORS of great will - have always been with the Carians? How is conflict even possible if they lived hand in hand (lol) ? Perhaps I'm just being inattentive or not remembering something? Again, like with Bloodborne, where Sky and Cosmos are different realities, then here the Moon and stars are different things. The moon (as I understood it) is a deity and something along the lines of the Great Will, the Formless Mother, etc. Stars are the course of life, the very course of fate, which Radahn sealed, and which was used by astrologers back in the days of the neighborhood with the Giants on the Mountaintops of the Giants. Ymir denied the moon, but accepted the stars. He was an ardent orator and preaches things. Also, does he long for "redemption?" But to whom and for what?

Nevertheless, Ymir embodied a true ambition to take the place of a deity in his own mind. He is the high priest of Metyr, the mother, but a far better mother in his opinion would be himself. He has gone mad for love! Yuri may have been his first heresy - an attempt to replicate the miracle of motherhood, most likely with the power of Metyr herself. More likely, having created the unsuccessful Yuri, to whom he became attached with all his soul (We never once see the Fingercreeps usually have names), and the desire to become more powerful and embrace all possible Fingercreeps at once with his love was born? In the ashes of the young Fingercreeper it is said that they love their mothers very much when they are young.

Ymir desired this love :(

But I still do not really understand the logic with Liurnian Conflict and Carians/sorcerers being so much connected with Fingers and Fingercreeps. Two Fingers and fingercreeps seems to have one bloodline, they all come from Metyr and she comes from the Greater Will.

Anyways. Decided to start working on body headcanons! I’m adding soldier in the first one too (this is supposed to be a photo for Krogan’s file! Krogan doesn’t know what a camera is and the flash spooked him lol)

And I figured I could throw in my 3k word document on Lycanwings for more context as to what exactly Krogan’s other majority is :

I will also add a few other silly headcanons for the au.

I put Demo as roughly 41-42 in this au, which works out great because Krogan is 23. The cover story for Krogan’s appearance is that he’s Tavish’s son that was born out of wedlock and Demo never really knew about until very recently (mostly since they have some similar features so it is somewhat believable.)

Krogan has a quite odd accent to the other mercs, he rolls his J’s to where they make more of a jshh sound instead of your typical j, as well as having some off amalgamation of a Russian/Slavic and a mix of a few other accents that is quite unfamiliar to anything else (since he fluently speaks and was around people that spoke Norse in his old world.)

He does also speak some ancientt offshoot anscestor language to modern Russian. He understands the vowels and punctuation and wording of modern Russian, but not quite what is being said per se (it would be easy for him to learn though.).

I might do a Christmas peice though soon… Krogan has never seen a Christmas tree and the mercs have a nice big tree in the main room of the base >:]. Krogan was also a sort of gift, is what Demo calls him. Krogan showed up on exactly October 31st? Which is also Krogan’s birthday. They didn’t know that then of course, but they make up for it next year. (This also means Krogan is freshly a 23 year old when he arrives.) He is technically a Norse pagan and celebrates Norse pagan holidays, which Swissmas is considered Yule/snoggletog where he’s from, though he’s never actually celebrated. He didn’t really have anyone to celebrate with.

He thinks he’s not the best at giving gifts, but Krogan whittled each of the mercs a little wooden figurine the first year. Soldier got one of an eagle, made out of American pine (as the founding fathers would have wanted), Tavish got a little frog, since Demoks bomb jumping reminds Krogan of frogs. Medic gets one of archemedes, made from a small chunk of birch. I’m indecisive with Heavy, might have his figurine be one of his mother since she’s so significant to him.

But yes. Other thoughts. Since Krogan is still arguably quite young by even partial lycanwing standards, over time he will slowly get more scales on his body, like on his arms and legs. They don’t really need care, but he does polish them because it makes him feel pretty.

Tavish and Jane are the only who get to actually see him without shoes or without his feet being bound. Except spy. Spy is spy and he sees and knows everything. (Krogan doesn’t care because it’s just spy being nosy as per usual.)

It is a whole note in his file that Krogan is seriously… traumatized and suffers from PTSD and severe night terrors. He doesn’t tell anyone what they are about, and the few times he has tried, his descriptions to Demo are usually jumbles of sound and colors and smells that are all in your face with the feeling of dread and terror that this one singular figure gives him.

Demo found out that a better way for Krogan to express his fears and dreams is through art, though what he’s seen through the dark, heavy shadowed drawings of a man wearing a black dragon skin cloak and wielding a bull hook is that the individual in the man’s past that ripped him away from something at some point. There is a sort of dread that lingers from the way Krogan draws him. Stark shadows where the only thing you can see of the man’s face is a set of beady eyes that seem to search his soul for every single infraction that he’s ever made.

Tavish hopes he does not ever have to meet that man. For Krogan’s sake, at least.

(Backstory. The man is the one who owns and branded Krogan. The branding itself is a completely disgusting thing to the team.)

Soldier though. Soldier still sees the men, women and children marked with numbers in The Camps whenever he sees the brand. It is not a good feeling, anything other than pure rage that makes him want to find the man and take him down himself. No one should be dehumanized to anything but property. Not on his watch.

Anyways. Rambling over. Thoughts are going brain blast rn!!

HELLO HELLO i’m here to scream with you.

1. technically, everything in the midnight burger universe is inherently timeywimey !!! remember leif, old leif and EVEN OLDER LEIF ? they were all from different timelines but yes the proximity of these particular episodes does have me suspicious I HEAR YOU!

2. well. i mean in a practical sense it’s because the writers will only write about characters we know. THAT BEING SAID THOUGH, it is personal, it is targeted. there’s no doubt about that. here’s what bugs me, they mention a THIRD franchise at the end of EP 39. ‘ The Stone Fox’. So it’s not just midnight burger The Benefactor is aware of and actively targeting.

we know the benefactor’s people have tech that’s WAYYYY MOREEE advanced than any other civilisation the diner crew has encountered ( including leif). my theory is that there is only /one/ benefactor tht is omnipresent as it were? they can see across dimensions and timelines without needing to switch between them.

until 2 episodes ago, ‘the paradise’ didn’t even exist. and to the best of my understanding, ITS NOT IN THE SAME TIMELINE AS THE DINER. they have a leif. it’s not our leif.

so it’s fair to assume the stone fox also has a leif, right?

so if every diner equivalent in EVERY timeline has a leif, why would leif be the benefactor? why would leif want to anhilate a big part of who he is in EVERY timeline?

3. i can’t remember the dad’s name either ??? ( edit- just checked and it’s Krok The Propogator) but leif shrugging his existence off isn’t as suspicious to me. didn’t Krok exist BEFORE the teds ? timeline wise that makes him ANCIENTT, making it highly unlikely for leif to have heard of him, even in his pirate days.

that being said, i do see the /interesting/ emphasis being placed on leif, ACROSS TIMELINES, and i’m very intrigued to see where this goes.

4. we don’t know enough about David i feel like ?? and it is a given that in another universe Caspar and his ex- wife gave birth to david, and said ex created The Ex. that doesn’t faze me. also, the david we know ISNT the david that caspar left behind, they landed in pasadena but in a slightly diff timeline.

it would be cool if the original david has links to the benefactor and i ABSOLUTELY SEE WHERE UR COMING FROM

TLDR- i don’t think it’s leif, david is possible tho !!!!!

To that end, mercenary contract work has come into a golden age, and contract work is common out on the Frontier.

While most individuals join a merc company, a few souls strike it out on their own, becoming freelancers. Without steady work, freelancers are usually identifiable by the rougher state of their armor, and the greater freedom of expression on their suits their status allows them. Many freelancers also work as bounty hunters on the side, usually going after petty targets beneath the notice of more dedicated bounty hunter groups."

I have this fear of being forgotten.

If you ask me, the seed was planted in my head when I was in primary school. First we learned about the ancientt Greeks who wanted to leave behind a good name and be remembered after death. Then we learned about the Egyptians, who carved their faces on gold masks, forever marking their sarcophagi. And both times I remember thinking how great these ideas were. Fast forward 20 years, and I hate being forgotten. I want my mark on people. I want to be part of their past, I want my name remembered after we’ve taken our separate ways, I want my face carved in their memories. Yes I always knew that, but it bothers me more lately. I remember everything. I remember people who were nice to me (even strangers that I’ll never see again), and I remember people who crushed me.  But in the past week or so, i just...felt it. I hadn’t spoken to my family in a while, I’m off work for a month, I found out an old friend mentioned me, and there it was again. A fear born from stories of ancient times. Do I have to carve my face on a block of gold to have an impact on people?
