Coffee

Harry wakes to the smell of coffee and the sound of clattering in the kitchen. The light streaming in from the windows makes him blink blearily, the blankets warm where they wrapped around his legs. He reaches groggily over to the other side, where Draco usually slept and touched only air.

For a heartbeat, just a heartbeat that old panic comes back, of waking up and finding the other person gone. Harry’s spent too many mornings like that; Draco having slipped away some time before dawn, the bed cold and so, so empty. He clenches his hands, fists slipping on the sheets. It always took awhile for him to calm down, to be reminded that he was here, in their apartment in Diagon Alley, all old windows and exposed brick.

Draco had picked the place out, half-forgotten on a small side street, the windows boarded and the door locked. Harry had thought he was crazy at first, crazy for wanting an old wreck like this was.

But they had cleaned it up nicely: exposed beams and huge windows with emerald shutters, hard wooden flooring covered in soft rugs. Pansy had done most of the decorating - Harry wanted too much red and Draco wanted too much green. The flat was now a comfortable amalgamation of them both - broomsticks on the floor, Harry’s coffee mugs and Draco’s crystal wine glasses, a Muggle television and an old pensieve that Draco had bought from god knew where.

It felt like home. Harry’s never really felt like that before, having a place to truely call home.

He gets out of bed slowly, wincing at the bright lights. There’s a mess of clothing dumped on one of the chairs; he grabs something at random (Draco’s - only he would bother to buy a sweater this nice) and pulls it on, padding into the kitchen.

Draco’s perched on the counter, a newspaper in hand. Harry watches him, all tousled blonde hair and long legs and the faintest edge of a rosy blush on his cheeks. The sun hits him from behind making him look like he was glowing, the entire room lit up by the beauty of his smile.

Harry remembers a time long ago, back to the War and the fighting. Draco had been colder, harder, painted in shades of grey instead of gold. Still beautiful - he always had been beautiful - but nothing close to what he was now.

He could have watched Draco for hours, flipping through the Prophet idly, the smell of warm coffee in the air. Draco notices him before long though; he rolls his eyes, tossing the newspaper over Harry’s head and onto the sofa behind him. “Creep,” he says, though there’s no venom behind the words. “How long have you been watching me?”

Harry shrugs. He doesn’t bother to hide the smile on his face, like he might’ve so long ago. He’s long learnt that Draco was Draco - he never needed to hide anything around him. “Few minutes. You know we have a couch right?”

“Oh really?” Draco says in mock surprise. “Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”

“Maybe you’re just stupid,” Harry says and Draco lets out a long laugh.

“Bitch,” he mutters and flicks his wand. The mail comes soaring into Harry’s hands, the door swinging slightly behind it. “Here’s all your precious fan mail by the way.”

Harry scowls, examining the parchment in his hand. “How do they keep finding us?”

“Probably a tracking spell or something. How come I never get any fan mail?”

“You have the fucked-up Death Eater guy.”

Draco pours. “Yes, but he’s a fucked-up Death Eater guy. You get all the admirers. No one has ever sent me a condom before.”

Harry shudders. “Oh please no,” he says, dropping the stack of mail onto the coffee table with a groan. “That was one time! One time!”

“It was an extra large!” Draco calls out as Harry shoves his way into the kitchen, slamming an empty mug onto the counter. Ron had gotten it for him as an 18th birthday present - one of those tacky souvenir ones that seemed to have sprouted up everywhere after the war. The Bae Who Lived was stamped on one side, along with a lipstick mark that did not resemble Harry’s lips at all.

Draco had now stretched himself out on the counter, legs dangling idly over the edge. His arm was out and bare next to him, the Dark Mark covered up by beautiful flowers, rendered in soft purples and blues and greens. It was a Muggle tattoo for the most part, with the exception of one single hydrangea - in ever shifting colours of pale pinks and soft teals. Draco had designed it himself - they still had the parchment sketched on the wall in the bedroom.

“Move,” Harry grumbles, unceremoniously shoving Draco off the counter. “Why are you even up so early? It’s not like we have practice or anything.”

Draco gives him a disbelieving stare. “It’s almost 8.”

“Too fucking early.”

“Go to bed earlier then.”

“I did!” Harry shakes his head. “You’re the one keeping me up all night.”

“Well,” Draco says, a sly grin spreading across his face. “I’m sure I could wake you up by - “

“I’m going to stop you right there.” Harry scowls into his empty mug, running a hand through his hair. “The only thing I want to be woken up by today is the Lord and coffee. I need coffee.”

“Pot,” Draco says, gesturing vaguely towards the coffee machine. “My boyfriend. The handsomest idiot in the world.”

“I’m not an idiot,” Harry grumbles as he pours himself a huge cup. Draco had an unusual talent for making incredible coffee, despite not knowing how to use a french press about 6 months ago. “I defeated Voldemort, right? That’s got to count for something.”

Draco laughs. “Please. You’re an idiot.”

“Am not,” Harry scowls. He finds the milk in the fridge, adding copious amounts to his coffee. “Where’s the spoons?”

“This is your fucking loft too,” Draco mutters. He hands Harry the spoon from his own coffee mug, smirking as he did. “Honestly. Remember that headline a few weeks ago? ‘Harry Potter; the Hidden Mysteries of the Boy Who Lived?’”

“Vividly,” Harry mutters, now rummaging around the cupboards for the sugar. “Made me sound like some sort of bloody celebrity or something. Anything Skeeter writes is trash.”

Draco hums. He kicks his feet out in front of him idly. “True. It’s a load of bullshit anyways. Hidden mysteries my ass.”

Harry flips him off. He finds the sugar in a jar next to the stove and adds a few heaping spoonfuls to his coffee, the rich scent already helping with his headache. “I’m mysterious!” he protests. “And handsome. And attractive. And devastatingly intelligent.”

“Apparently not,” Draco says, “Seeing as you just put salt in your coffee.”

Harry freezes. He turns back towards the stove. For the first time he notices the small black letters on the side of the jar. Sea Salt.

He inwardly groans, turning back to face Draco, who had a shit-eating grin on his face. “No. I meant to do that.”

“I wish you would just admit you made a mistake,” Draco sighs, watching as Harry serenely stirs his coffee. “Gryffindors.”

“I didn’t make a mistake,” Harry mutters, clinking his spoon against his mug. “I like it with salt.”

“Oh really?” Draco says. Harry sees the glint in his eye and gulps. “Then you wouldn’t have a problem with drinking it?”

Harry swallows, hard. Shit, he thinks. Draco’s eyes are full of challenge, that streak of competitiveness that made him fall in love in the first place.

Harry slowly raises the mug to his lips. “Fuck you,” he says and chugs the whole thing. Halfway through he regrets it - it’s burning hot and excruciatingly salty, like drinking warm ocean water. He never could turn down a dare though, draining the cup to the dregs.

“See?” he says, slamming the cup down in front of Draco. “Delicious.”

Draco gets to his feet, smiling wickedly. He crosses over to the stove, picking up the jar of salt. “Delicious?”

“Yeah,” Harry says, trying to hind the grimace and the lingering taste still in his mouth. “I could drink this all day.”

He regrets the words as soon as it leaves his mouth. Draco grins, his face turning evil. “Well then,” he says. “It’s a good thing I love my boyfriend so much then.”

Fuck.

“Draco - “ Harry starts, but Draco just winks.

“Love you,” he says, and then dumps the entire pot of salt into the coffee.

My AoEx OTPs 1

OK, time for some shipping in the AoEx universe! ❤️❤️❤️

First, my OTP that, I think, have good chance to happen and that should be together, because they are genuinely good for each other :

Rin x Shiemi

I was not very interesting in that pairing at first, because it looked too much like the typical shonen pairing, and both looked really naive, but the characters growth, especially Shiemi’s (who left me completely stunned, Shiemi is BAE now, I can’t cheer her up enough !!!!!) changed that for me. Their dynamincs, so geniunely pure and sweet, but so complexified by the secrets and the family complications both of them face, warm my heart, and also break it.

And you don’t see a lot a shonen where the female lead is so powerful herself, with an arc so completely about her not just the male lead.

I look forward to see them meet again.

(And a couple of two crazy powerful Nephilim would be unstoppable :D!)

A pairing that I have been increasingly interested about, too much maybe ^^. Two fascinating characters, but, unlike the first one, I am not sure they should really end up together because of many issues, some pretty obvious.

Lucifer X Homare

In a story where half-demons, or Nephilim as they are called in that manga, are the main leads, having ambiguous demon/human relationships is almost mandatory. But, given Lucifer’s character and his hatred for humankind, I would have never guessed that the one that would hook me the most would be his with a human woman. Maybe this is part of the appeal.

Homare is also an interesting case, a human devoted to the ennemy side, but unlike her own father, she is not necessarily presented as a perfect villain, unlike her father. The latest chapters furthermore showed a really painful backstory for the young girl she once was... It is easy to feel compassion toward her.

A lot of things remain unknown about them: how was Homare taken into Illuminati, how did Lucifer and her meet, why was she chosen as the personal bodyguard of the King of Light, and above all, why Lucifer shows so much trust toward her (you won’t make me believe that he let just any human slap him). And why does she care so much about Lucifer ?

Nonetheless, no matter how much I love their scenes, a lot of things worry me:

1) We have yet to see a healthy romantic demon/human relationship

2) Lucifer believes the humans to be cruel, weak and pampered: a bit incompatible with a possible romance with one

3) How much free will truely have Homare ?

4) All the awful things Lucifer did

The other ones that I love, but that I will develop less in that post:

- Mephisto (Samael) x Shura: another demon/human pairing, even less likely than the first one, given that our flamboyant exorcist tries to slice Mephisto’s throat in half of the scenes they share, even if (at least physical) attraction is clearly seen on his side. I love seeing Shura going after Mephisto or he provoking her. But the problem for me is the same as for Lucifer x Homare: would such a relationship really be healthy ? Especially given Shura’s backstory...

- Shiro x Yuri: I had also a lot of problems with, still beautiful, loving, but sad pairing. At the end, it is a doomed-from-the-start romance, and the fault is not all Satan’s. It was always too early for them, Shiro was never ready for that kind of relationship when Yuri was alive, and it’s, ironically, her death that changed him in that person that can provide love and support. As for Yuri, she could never let it go, and stayed decidedly attached to the people she feel committed to, even if they can’t answer this love and care the right way (that applies to both Satan and Shiro)

- Bon x Rin: I love their friendship, and, sometimes, I imagine more... Honestly, I think that Bon was, with Shiemi, one the most important persons for Rin’s growth as a character. His acceptance gave Rin the strength to start accepting himself, when Yukio struggled with that.

- I wait for some romantic developments among the exwires: Bon x Izumo, Izumo x Paku (I really don’t see Izumo x Shima, after what she went through, I think Izumo needs someone she can whole-heartedly trust)... Konekomaru ???? Takara ????

- For Yukio, you have Yukio x Shiemi, but I really prefer Rin x Shiemi... Let see how things go. And like Shiro, I think Yukio has a long way to go before he is finally able to receive and offer a love that is not mixed with bitterness. I hope he succeeds !

- Shima x Beelzebub: it’s a joke. Almost.

My top 10 korean dramas of 2019

10. Extraordinary you. Based on a webtoon, I actually almost missed this one because it looked like the typical high school drama but I got curious and watched it. The story is about a girl that realizes she is actually a secondary role on a webtoon and that her life is being written by the author. Nevertheless she makes the decision to make her own story and falling for whoever she chooses. It definitely is a silly rom-com but with a spin. The chemistry between SF9′s RoWoon and Kim Hyeoyeon is what made binge watch the 32 episodes (around 35 minutes each) in just a couple of days. 

9. Her private life. Kim Jae Wook and Park Min Young star in this really fun rom-com based on a korean webtoon about a girl that lives a double life: being an art gallery curator and also a devoted super fan of a member of an idol group (played by One). However everything changes when the new gallery director, Ryan, arrives with an agenda that will make her worlds collide. I wasn��t a huge fan of how they portrayed super fans. I thought it was a missed opportunity of really getting into the mindset of a those kind of fans. 

8. Vagabond. The first episode of this drama really got me excited about it but somehow after a couple of episodes I started loosing interest. When I watched it after a while I somehow finished the whole thing. I think it had its ups and downs but all in all an interesting action romance drama. Lee Seung Gi plays a stunt man that somehow finds himself a father figure to the son of his deceased sister. Money troubles weights him down but he works hard to make a decent living for his nephew. However the kid passes away along with several others in a plane crash. He discovers it wasn’t an accident and he turns his life around to take justice at his own hands. Along the way she meets an agent of an intelligence agency (played by Suzy) and they both work to find the people behind the plane crash.

7. When the camellia blooms. The main characters of this one are not only endearing but really funny. Gong Hyo Jin has always been one of my favorite korean actresses and this is my favorite part Kang Ha Neul has done. This popular drama is about a single mother who owns a bar and a policeman who falls for her and will stop at nothing until he wins her heart but nothing will come easy for these two, they will have to face several challenges from a killer on the loose to a conservative mother.

6. Chief of Staff. This drama had two seasons last year something different from the usual modus operandi of korean dramas. Honestly I enjoyed the first season more but even if the story line was a bit messy sometimes, it really was an interesting political drama. Lee Jung Jae plays a character that definitely made me remember House of Cards and The West Wing but in a very korean setting. A former detective is now chief of staff to a congressman and has strong ambicions but he always seems to be stopping fires. It was a very well made drama. Shin Min Ah, Lee Eljah, Kim Dong Joon, Jung Woong In and Kim Kap Soo were all amazing on this one.

5. SKY CASTLE. This drama gave much to talk about in Korea because it revolves around the pressure parents put on their children to make it to the best universities in the country. The story is set in a rich neighbourhood in Seoul and it shows how some parents will stop at nothing to make their children excel and how it reflects on those children. That dynamic made for an intense 20 episodes. The cast did an amazing job.

4. Hotel Del Luna. This was a great fantasy drama and I was going to rank it higher but truth is in the second part I felt like they drag the conclussion a bit more than necessary. IU plays Jang Man-Wol the “owner” of Hotel del Luna a place where spirits stay before they pass on. Goo Chang-seong (Yeo Jin Goo) is an assitant manager of a hotel corporation who suddenly learns his father made a deal with a woman that he would have to work in her hotel except her hotel in unlike any other. He’s forced to work there but he refuses to do things like Manwol wants him to and tries to change her mind set. She lives with regrets which has made her have a bad attitude but her walls start to fall down with Chang Seong around. This drama was truely addictive.

3. One Spring Night. This drama by Ahn Pan Seok was beautifully shot and it deals with how single fathers are looked in a conservative society like Korea and how parents put pressure on their kids to marry well. The tone is definitely similar to Something in the Rain, his previous work also starred by Jung Hae In. Han Ji Min plays a girl in her 30s that has a boyfriend who she’s expected to settle down with but realizes she doesn’t want to marry him just because it’s about time. She meets a single father and she falls for him but society gets in the way and they both will need to decide whether they are strong enough to go against social standards to be together

2. Crash landing on you. I was waiting for a Hyun Bin drama and finally he did this one with Son Ye Jin and it really turned out great. It’s still airing so I might be making a mistake by ranking this one so high. I really love it though and it’s clearly popular since it’s making double digit ratings which for a cable drama is difficult. The story is about a girl that has an accident that lands her on North Korean soil and seeks help with a North Korean officer to help her return to South Korea. He agrees and they fall in love in the process. It makes for a sweet fun drama but the fact that they are from two countries in conflict will make it difficult to stay together.

1. WWW: Search. Sometimes you just connect with a drama and that’s what happened to me with this one. It might not have been the greatest love story on this list or the most innovative drama. However I was really drawn by the main character played by Im Soo Jung and also by the script .She really is a strong female character. I think the story really made some really good points regarding the power of social media in Korea as well as how corruption can disrupt the truth. Korea has a web portal in real life called Naver that basically works both as google and as twitter since it shows the top related searches constantly which makes all internet users aware of when something is popular whether is about politics or entertainment. In the drama there’s two portals that do just that: Unicon and Baro, Bae Ta-Mi is a director of Unicon but is betrayed and ends up switching companies to Baro and makes her goal to beat Unicon and make Baro the most used portal in Korea. At the same time, she meets a young CEO (Jang Ki Young)  of a small music company for games and he tries to date her after a one night stand. I also love the secondary couple played by Lee Dae Hae and Lee Jae Wook. The friendship between Lee Dae Hae’s character and Im Soo Jung is definitely one of the most fun parts of the drama.

Since the beginning I knew it was something special. First, I was afraid. Truely afraid. Cause I’ve never felt like this before. So far my life was so ordinary as it could be. So boringly “perfect”. Everybody had their comments on my life, my love, my studies, my behaviour, my hair, my clothes, my style... So yes, on everything. I had my plans, which were conformed to these expectations. I realised this is not what I need. That was not enough for me. It felt like living in prison cell. When I said it out loud, i thought i will never get the chance again to be truely happy. My “fairytale” got destroyed by myself. So this is how my year began. I wasn’t sure of myself, I didn’t know who the fuck I am. I am grateful for my friends for helping me this time, and I was the happiest from all of us in the crew, that you guys became my friends. Not pals, not mates. More, real friends. I didn’t think of you like the others. I had that feeling in there, that you’re not like everybody else. When I heard your name, or you called me I felt special. But I didn’t think that we’re more than friends. Just true soulmates, and it was like you were becoming my best friend. I can’t recall when did it change in my head. But somehow it did. Everything went black. It was like an outage. Couldn’t think of anything else, but you. As I mentioned, I was scared. Scared of what you want, and what I want, and what everybody else wants. Scared of enjoying every damn moment spending with you, or talking through our lonely nights. So I was afraid of being different, but at the same time, when I was with you everything felt just right. And then I screwed up everything I could... And I’m sorry I was like that. My fears paralyzed me. I thougth I lost you in every way. It was the second time when I felt like a piece of shit. Then a miracle came. Our feelings were stronger than our fears. I wanted to act perfectly, but I went crazy everytime you were there or I heard your beautiful name. I dreamed with you several times. I was hoping that these dreams will come true.

And now, here we are my Love. This is what I couldn’t imagine in a million years. That kind of happiness, which is just ours. That kind of pure emotion, what nobody can understand, just you and me. I want this. I want you.

Thank you for giving me the courage to find and be myself next to you. I love you and I’ll do everything to be as perfect as I can. Just. For. You.

I just can’t calm down after finishing my campaign in pyre

I can’t stop listening to bound together and in the flame because they fill me with the warm feelings and tears of joy that the ending gave me, the entire journey’s culmination with the stars themselves dying while we push on, the only failure is to stray from the path, and we pushed to the end, only for me to give my freedom for oralech, who had rightfully earned it and was a good person, as the ending showed. Sir gilman completely touched me, i know everyone would give their freedom for the reader, but he was always genuine in his care and respect for those around him, and he didn’t do anything wrong to begin with. an honorable heart and soul in that one. Volfred truely desired what was best for everyone, and truly held to his convictions until the end. Bertrude showed so little of the darkness the other bog crones did, showing an open heart and a desire to be with Volfred even with his rejection, everything she did was for him, even her crime. they stayed true to the end. And while I feel terribly that hedwyn felt the way he did with me not finding freedom, I still stood firm to send Jodariel and Rukey home to him. Hedwyn was a genuine soul, and that’s why i sent him home. Ti’zo was a difficult choice, he had a place both free and in the downside, but the fact he was so close to the moon touched girl (named bae in my run) was a great thing to hear, as i sent her home too. I sent Pamitha home because i felt she had no way to reconcile with her sister, as i had already thwarted her chance in the second liberation rite. and the feeling of making these people who i grew close to happy is something i will carry forever, even though it’s fictional and i may not keep it conscious, but pyre was a journey i’m glad i walked. It also helped that it pissed off the voice. the feeling of my genuine decisions being reflected in word and song in a way most other games avoid when the party can have any member removed is a truly beautiful thing. Supergiant, keep going on, i came to this from hades and both are experiences i can vouch wholeheartedly for.
