Unpopular opinion but if you don't enjoy the process you should find a different thing to do.
And I think this is true in general but now I'm talking about it in the context of AI.
If you don't enjoy making art and only care about the end piece and how it'll look and how much traction it"lol get online then making art is not something for you, find something you enjoy from start to finish.
Same goes for writing: if you do not enjoy writing and rewriting and then some more and instead want AI to write for you, being a writer is not something you should pursue.
Sure, not every part of creative process is going to be equally enjoyable but you should get satisfaction from solving the problems along the way and you should get a sense of accomplishment on your way of "making the piece yours" and you should have a sense of ownership once you are done.
None of these things will come from typing in a prompt into chatGPT. And I am sad to see so many people are missing on the opportunity to experience the joy of making something with their own hands and brains.
Just give it a try and if you don't like it don't do it again.
But also don't let the expectations of it coming out perfect ruin the fun you are having while making the thing. Because what if I told you this: having fun while creating is the actual purpose of the creative process, not whatever comes out of it.

what’s the story about the generative power model and water consumption? /gen
There's this myth going around about generative AI consuming truly ridiculous amount of power and water. You'll see people say shit like "generating one image is like just pouring a whole cup of water out into the Sahara!" and bullshit like that, and it's just... not true. The actual truth is that supercomputers, which do a lot of stuff, use a lot of power, and at one point someone released an estimate of how much power some supercomputers were using and people went "oh, that supercomputer must only do AI! All generative AI uses this much power!" and then just... made shit up re: how making an image sucks up a huge chunk of the power grid or something. Which makes no sense because I'm given to understand that many of these models can run on your home computer. (I don't use them so I don't know the details, but I'm told by users that you can download them and generate images locally.) Using these models uses far less power than, say, online gaming. Or using Tumblr. But nobody ever talks about how evil those things are because of their power generation. I wonder why.
To be clear, I don't like generative AI. I'm sure it's got uses in research and stuff but on the consumer side, every effect I've seen of it is bad. Its implementation in products that I use has always made those products worse. The books it writes and flood the market with are incoherent nonsense at best and dangerous at worst (let's not forget that mushroom foraging guide). It's turned the usability of search engines from "rapidly declining, but still usable if you can get past the ads" into "almost one hundred per cent useless now, actually not worth the effort to de-bullshittify your search results", especially if you're looking for images. It's a tool for doing bullshit that people were already doing much easier and faster, thus massively increasing the amount of bullshit. The only consumer-useful uses I've seen of it as a consumer are niche art projects, usually projects that explore the limits of the tool itself like that one poetry book or the Infinite Art Machine; overall I'd say its impact at the Casual Random Person (me) level has been overwhelmingly negative. Also, the fact that so much AI turns out to be underpaid people in a warehouse in some country with no minimum wage and terrible labour protections is... not great. And the fact that it's often used as an excuse to try to find ways to underpay professionals ("you don't have to write it, just clean up what the AI came up with!") is also not great.
But there are real labour and product quality concerns with generative AI, and there's hysterical bullshit. And the whole "AI is magically destroying the planet via climate change but my four hour twitch streaming sesh isn't" thing is hysterical bullshit. The instant I see somebody make this stupid claim I put them in the same mental bucket as somebody complaining about AI not being "real art" -- a hatemobber hopping on the hype train of a new thing to hate and feel like an enlightened activist about when they haven't bothered to learn a fucking thing about the issue. And I just count my blessings that they fell in with this group instead of becoming a flat earther or something.

I can't believe I have to say this again
Look. I've posted about how piracy fucks the little guys at least twice already, but guys, seriously, I'm being so fucking real with you, PIRACY FUCKS THE LITTLE GUY.
And this is just another shining example of how.
8 of my titles are on this list. 8 of my titles that I spent months writing, editing, revising, crying over, screaming over, plotting, putting my heart into have been pirated, and then used to train some soulless AI that will then go on to make money for a big corporation, without my consent.
And I'm on the lower end. Other authors literally have over 100 works on this list. New authors just getting into this have their debut books on this list.
I repeat, this was done without our consent. This was done because someone pirated our book, and made it available to the general public for free.
So when I beg you to please not pirate books. When I tell you that it's literally ripping the potential to make our art our livelihood from our hands. When I say that every author would 100% rather you come to us and ask us about where to find our books outside of pirate sites, or even to see if we have any ARCs available if you can't afford it. . .
I do so because in the end the only one you're hurting is artists who are just like you. Just trying to put food on the table. Working long hours. Giving up weekends. Putting everything they've got into their work. And all we're asking for is that you not pirate our books, so that we can pay our bills.
We do this thing because we love it, but there's no reason that doing something we love that provides entertainment for others shouldn't make us enough to live off of. If you don't believe that, I'm afraid you've fallen for the brainwashing bullshit that some jobs "just aren't worth anything". And that, my dears, is a larger problem than I have the ability to express.
Everyone should make a fair wage from drive thru workers to writers.
Everyone should be able to pay their bills.
Don't pirate shit.
Thank you, goodnight.

any art tips about writing funny scenarios? i feel like i understand drawing but ive been in a total writing rut, especially when it comes to comedy :/
I think the main thing to consider is What Is The Punchline.
Something I see often in beginner joke-writing is having too much after the punchline. You don't need to have character A dunk on character B, and then have characters C, D, & E all reacting to it. UNLESS the reaction is the punchline. Remember how funny vines were? A lot of that came from them being only 6 seconds, and often cut off at the end. The Abruptness can absolutely add to the timing.
The other main thing is that comedy = contrast. Yesterday was April Fool's Day, and something I was seeing a lot of people do (myself included) was make some kind of "announcement", and then say some variation of "haha sike!" The thing is, this only works if your audience could have realistically expected you to make that kind of announcement in the first place. If an artist who has been staunchly and vocally against AI art posts an AI image, then... that's not really a joke? Your followers will be confused, not only because you're acting out-of-character about an issue that's politically charged, but also because you're still using AI art.
My own version of this joke was to redraw an old comic, which is something I love doing! I love revisiting old media I used to like, and I love redrawing art to track my improvement. My followers (hopefully) know this about me. The twist was that the comic I redrew was voltron, specifically klance, because I have the experience to know this would give a lot of people a lot of whiplash. Even after almost 9 years, just simply seeing the characters was enough to send people careening into a weird spiral of nostalgia and fear for my sanity, because of how controversial the show and its fanbase had become. But since most of the controversy was because of extremely-online drama, it was ultimately harmless (and people that are genuinely still into the show got some new art for it teehee!) I'm going to use a recent comic I did as a another example.

^ this is a comic about Ace Attorney, but honestly you don't really need to know anything about Ace Attorney except that "7yg" is a shorthand the fandom used for "7 year gap".
Panel 1: Setting the expectation. it's during the pandemic, so it's normal for people to have hand sanitizer on them. A precedence has been established.
Panel 2: Additional Context. Phoenix rummages through his pockets, which tells the audience he has a lot of stuff in them, and that he's identifying objects more by touch than by sight.
Panel 3: Anticipation
Panel 4: The punchline! Oops, it was lube! Small bottles of lube DO look & feel very similar to bottles of hand sanitizer, but people-- especially during a global pandemic-- do not typically carry small bottles of lube on them. Personally, I think Phoenix Wright could be the kind of person to have lube on him (for any number of sexual or non-sexual reasons), but the audience doesn't necessarily need to know that about him. Part of the joke is the nonchalance in his reaction; all you need to know is that Phoenix himself is not that surprised or embarrassed about having lube with him, or about having just dispensed some of it into his friend's hands.
Comedy is hard to explain!! It's also not very funny to explain. It really takes a lot of practice, and everyone has different tastes in humor/context/expectations anyway, so you're never going to make everyone laugh. Knowing your audience will definitely help.

Hello, I recently read your post about Ai and I wanted to know your opinion on this
My brother likes reading and writing, its something he always loved
But sometimes when he is tired and does not have the energy to write a new story from 0 or find a new story to read he likes to write a story prompt (short or small depending of his inspiration) and use a AI to generate a story for him to read
He never posted any of the AI stories and he always deletes them after reading
So, is it wrong to use it if no one ever knows?
I think your brother should consider what he actually likes about reading and writing, or if he actually likes them at all, because he's doing himself a huge disservice by engaging with AI-generated content.
The "wrongness" about using AI isn't that other people know you're doing it, it's about the way it absolutely flattens the human experience and art into something non-human and without soul or passion to it, the fact that it plagiarises both written and visual work that many people have put blood sweat and tears into, and perhaps most crucially, it's about its unbelievably harmful effects on the environment.
If you're "too tired" to write a story, then sorry to break it to you, but you simply do not want to write the story. I can empathise with the frustration of writer's block because I often very badly want to write but I'm busy, or I don't have any ideas, or I'm not in the right headspace, or whatever. But at the end of the day, I want to write a story because I'm a writer, and I enjoy writing. If I ask the AI to write the story for me, then I've not written the story.
So what is the point of that? Would you ask an AI to eat your favourite food for you? Would you ask it to go on holidays for you?
If you enjoy reading, what is the point of reading something that wasn't even written by a person? Stories are built of people's experiences and imaginations and emotions and all of the complexities of being human, and an AI can't recreate any of that. It's empty, it's antithetical to every part of what creating art means, and the less people engage with art, the more we lose of ourselves and our ability to build connections with one another and the world we share.

[Image description: A polyam flag with the words “four or more bingo” on it. End description.]
AO3 COLLECTION | SQUIDGEWORLD COLLECTION
AND WE'RE BACK!
I have a vision: a world where we can read about polycules and complicated relationships with four or more people until our eyes hurt and our hearts can't take it anymore.
Let me introduce to you: the 2025 Four or More Bingo! Thanks to a couple of suggestions I received last year, I decided to launch this event earlier in the year for more opportunities to write about those messy polycules.
This is a low-stakes, personal challenge. There's no penalty for not finishing or running late.
Cards will be given from now to December 31st. Fills can be posted starting June 1st to AO3, SQWA or tumblr forever.
GUIDELINES
Any medium! Any rating! As long as your work focuses on a relationship with 4 or more people, it's allowed!
All works must be your own and not previously posted. AI generated works will be deleted from the collections.
You may combine these with other events, as long as the other event allows it (examples are @polyamships' polyartober, lyricaltitles challenges, etc)
Small fandoms welcome!
Don't forget to comply with the community guidelines.
MEDIUM SPECIFIC GUIDELINES
Minimum wordcount for fics is 100 words. There is no maximum
Minimum for art is a sketch on unlined paper (figure sticks allowed!). There is no limit to the quality or effort you want to put in your fills.
Minimum for moodboards is a 3x3 grid (9 images individually or edited in one image). Maximum is given by the place where you decide to post. On tumblr, the maximum is 20 images, but on AO3, you're free!
Minimum for podfic is a 100-word fic. There is no restriction on maximum length or sound effects.
Minimum for fanvids is 30 seconds. There is no maximum.
Other mediums don't have a minimum. Do you want to make an in-universe magazine for your ship? A cross stich pattern? A sculpture? Go ahead and do it! I look forward to all the things you can create.
Prompts, FAQ and more below the cut
PROMPTS
The following are the prompts that the bingo card will be generated from. Send us an ask if you want a card, and if you want any prompts specifically excluded from it (you can exclude up to 5 prompts). Feel free to request a new card at any time through December 2025, even if you've already received one.
This year you can ask for a completely SFW card or a mix of SFW and NSFW prompts (this was a popular suggestion last year). Whatever card you choose, you will be allowed to blacklist 5 prompts from the list if you so desire.
Prompts are to be interpreted as freely as you want.
SFW prompts are not limited to SFW fills. If your story gets spicy along the way, there's nothing wrong with it.
Some of these prompts might seem familiar. That's intentional. We love big and complicated polycules at fourormore.

Q: So how do I get a card?
A: Send us an ask, preferrably off anon, but if you prefer to remain anon, leave an emoji to identify you by.
Q: How many fics do I need to write?
A: For a bingo, 5 prompts in a line (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal). You can even go for a blackout (all 25 prompts).
Q: Why isn’t X allowed?
A: Just because.
Q: I don’t have a Dreamwidth account. Can I join?
A: Of course! You don’t even need an AO3 account if you wish to post only on tumblr.
Q: My work contains [INSERT WARNING HERE]. Can I still participate?
A: Yes. This is a CNTW (Choose Not To Warn) space.
Q: I don’t want to see [X] content, can you please remove it?
A: No. The only content that will be removed will be that that does not comply with the rules.
UPDATE: We now have a General FAQ that applies to all events.
COMPLETION POSTS
So, you have a bingo (or a blackout!), what now?
Well, to acknowledge the fact that you spent time and effort on at least 5 fics, we’ll be receiving bragging posts (also known as completion posts) where you can link all of your fills at once. Please follow this format. You may post on your own blog and @ us, tag #fourormore or submit it to the blog.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to send a message.
Have fun and bon appetit!

Inquire within!
I'm trying to keep this low enough impact that I can accomplish them. I can sketch fairly quick enough, even if it's a full body (though that DOES take me longer), and I think I can manage this.
Feel free to peruse my art tags and see if I can draw for you.
Some other notes under a read more because I talk a lot:
I can be contacted via tumblr askbox, at the least, and I can contact you for more discussion via DMs after that. I also have a discord, and if I actually have a density of commission requests I can make a discord server to invite you into for more conversation. (I have several servers, admittedly, including one for artists/creatives, but it might be rude to clutter those with commission talk.) If you must reach out to me somewhere else, I have a bluesky or you can email me ([email protected])
I have a ko-fi for payment, or paypal. I've used the latter more often and I can figure out the invoice thing if that's your preference.
I'm a primarily humanform artist. I can do human +wings, perhaps horns, or a mermaid tail, but I typically draw humankind and human shapes. I'm not set up to be a furry artist, and I want to be able to work faster than having to figure out animal shapes on the fly would allow me. I might be willing to draw a small animal companion with your character of choice, but that's a big maybe.
I know I wrote the vague "portrait" up there in the image, and I stand by that, but I realized that could also include things like video game avatars, and (variable)-sonas (trollsonas, for example). Still in the human limits, but with additional fun involved.
I'm pretty mild across the board as far as internet users go, and I forgot to write it on the image itself, but I won't do heavy gore stuff either. Blood and wounds are okay, that's fairly mild, but I won't draw guts spilling out or severe eye damage or stuff like that. That's probably not in the purview of sketch commissions anyway, but I would rather not have to deal with gore.
I will give you a quote if we have to negotiate additional details that'll cost more than my base price before I get started, and you're free to say that you can't commission me if you want at that point. No hard feelings, I get that money's tight across the board. I'm trying to find the bridge between making it worthwhile for what I'm offering and also making it reasonable for me to earn the bare amount of what I need.
I'm okay with drawing your ship of choice if you're willing to pay for it and give me a little more time to work out the positioning of characters. hand holding is hard, haha. I won't draw lolicon/shotacon, and I still won't draw sex, but we can talk around what else there is.
I'm not up to doing a fully rendered/fully colored commission right now, I haven't had a good track record with going through the full process digitally. Unless we have a really compelling discussion and I get paid real good, or I do it traditionally after that discussion, that's not something I'm offering fully.
I will send you the commissioner the full size png when I'm all done, but I'll post a smaller tumblr-size jpg on my blog, after payment is received. Unless you'd rather otherwise, in which case we'll talk about it and I'm willing to leave it unposted. You're not allowed to post it yourself or use it (as an avatar for example) without proper credit to me, and DEFINITELY you're not allowed to feed it to some image generating "AI" dataset.
I will offer these in traditional options (pencils and micron pens), but I can't stream the process on discord.
I don't have a formal contract to offer anyone, and I don't wanna figure out a google forms thing. My conditions are fairly reasonable and within my means, I think. Don't post my art or give it to AI, you don't get the image until I've gotten paid.
I think that's it? I hope that's it, I've been out of the game for a whiiiile.
...this is a top tier Genesis I've drawn for this commission post tbh

Falling into the AI vortex.
Before I deeply criticize something, I try to understand it more than surface level.
With guns, I went into deep research mode and learned as much as I could about the actual guns so I could be more effective in my gun control advocacy.
I learned things like... silencers are not silent. They are mainly for hearing protection and not assassinations. It's actually small caliber subsonic ammo that is a concern for covert shooting. A suppressor can aid with that goal, but its benefits as hearing protection outweigh that very rare circumstance.
AR15s... not that powerful. They use a tiny bullet. Originally it could not even be used against thick animal hides. It was classified as a "varmint hunting" gun. There are other factors that make it more dangerous like lightweight ammo, magazine capacity, medium range accuracy, and being able to penetrate things because the tiny bullets go faster. But in most mass shooting situations where the shooting distance is less than 20 feet, they really aren't more effective than a handgun. They are just popular for that purpose. Dare I say... a mass shooting fad or cliche. But there are several handguns that could be more powerful and deadly—capable of one bullet kills if shot anywhere near the chest. And easier to conceal and operate in close quarters like a school hallway.
This deeper understanding tells me that banning one type of gun may not be the solution people are hoping for. And that if you don't approach gun control holistically (all guns vs one gun), you may only get marginal benefits from great effort and resources.
Now I'm starting the same process with AI tools.
Everyone is stuck in "AI is bad" mode. And I understand why. But I worry there is nuance we are missing with this reactionary approach. Plus, "AI is bad" isn't a solution to the problem. It may be bad, but it is here and we need to figure out realistic approaches to mitigate the damage.
So I have been using AI tools. I am trying to understand how they work, what they are good for, and what problems we should be most worried about.
I've been at this for nearly a month and this may not be what everyone wants to hear, but I have had some surprising interactions with AI. Good interactions. Helpful interactions. I was even able to use it to help me keep from an anxiety thought spiral. It was genuinely therapeutic. And I am still processing that experience and am not sure what to say about it yet.
If I am able to write an essay on my findings and thoughts, I hope people will understand why I went into the belly of the beast. I hope they won't see me as an AI traitor.
A big part of my motivation to do this was because of a friend of mine. He was hit by a drunk driver many years ago. He is a quadriplegic. He has limited use of his arms and hands and his head movement is constrained.
When people say, "just pick up a pencil and learn to draw" I always cringe at his expense. He was an artist. He already learned how to pick up a pencil and draw. That was taken away from him. (And please don't say he can stick a pencil in his mouth. Some quads have that ability—he does not. It is not a thing all of them can do.) But now he has a tool that allows him to be creative again. And it has noticeably changed his life. It is a kind of art therapy that has had massive positive effects on his depression.
We have had a couple of tense arguments about the ethics of AI. He is all-in because of his circumstances. And it is difficult to express my opinions when faced with that. But he asked and I answered. He tried to defend it and did a poor job. Which, considering how smart he is, was hard to watch.
But I love my friend and I feel I'd like to at least know what I'm talking about. I want to try and experience the benefits he is seeing. And I'd like to see if there is a way for this technology to exist where it doesn't hurt more than it helps.
I don't know when I will be done with my experiment. My health is improving but I am still struggling and I will need to cut my dose again soon. But for now I am just collecting information and learning.
I guess I just wanted to prepare people for what I'm doing.
And ask they keep an open mind with my findings. Not all of them will be "AI is bad."

‘Generative AI invites users to bypass mindfully engaging with the physical act of creating’ this hit me like a bag of fucking bricks, you’re a gem darling
I've been thinking about this again, and I want to expand.
A lot of us look at writing or making art as focused on the end goal. The point seems to be that final, publishable draft, the thing that makes us look at it and say "yeah, that's it! that's the idea, the feeling, i've captured it!"
But in our world of instant gratification, the sense of satisfaction involved with the process is diminished. The actual practice of creating, and learning how to create, has been framed as the thing "keeping" you from reaching the goal. It's almost a punishment - the time and effort is a cost to pay for an end product.
So of course people would try to reduce the time and effort. They think they're saving something by doing it. But the time and effort saved come at the cost of fun and connection and physical satisfaction.
This isn't a surprise. A lot of the things that are "good" for us have been muted and dulled and repackaged for "convenience" or "maturity" or a demonstration of "natural skill."
The easiest comparison I can make is movement. How many of us would look forward to moving if we were playing low-stakes kickball, or taking a walk and chatting with friends, or splashing and laughing in some water? Who remembers Pokemon Go summer, and how people were out and about? And how many of us have ever felt anxious, uncomfortable, or discouraged by the very idea of hopping on a treadmill or going to the gym? For a lot of us (me included) going to the gym feels like working toward a goal, not an actually fun time for its own sake.
Writing, in my experience, can be enjoyable as an action, not just a means to an end. I like writing! I love putting pen to paper, and I love the purple ink I use. I love my dot grid notebook, I love writing in messy cursive and rediscovering my penmanship. I love typing on my computer (except when my E key sticks when I'm typing really fast), and I like using scrivener and figuring out the music for the story I'm working on. I love using a thesaurus to look up just the right word. I love sharing a first draft with my partner, my boyfriend, my friends, and asking them "does that make sense?" so we can all laugh and screech and cackle. I love looking back on some of my writing and saying "what was I thinking????" I love rediscovering some of my favorite lines and saying "yeah, that? that slaps."
When you have generative ai make your process more "efficient," you don't learn what physically feels good about writing. You don't figure out what gives you those warm fuzzies, what makes you smile about your own action. And you deserve to feel good in that way.
#fandom and ethics#anti ai#coffeeshop chats#i almost went on a lot of tangents here#authors!#please share something about your writing process that you love!

Jibooty Appreciation Society
I might be writing this but I'm not the main character here
I'm still living for the moment in AYS when Jimin said his butt was unbelievable, and now it's just believable.
He's honestly hilarious. And his butt is still unbelievable in my books.

I know I'm in a long queue of people admiring Jibooty. We all love it.
Its a national treasure.
But the person at the front of the line is our favourite muscle bunny.

He's been admiring that work of art up close for a long, long time.
In fact if you asked him about his Roman Empire...
I'm pretty sure he'd say its the cake he gets for his birthday every year.

Jibooty is a snack, and this boy is permanently starving
Yes, JK is the real expert on jibooty, and if anyone ever doubted his personal experience with that Delicious Derriere™ he makes it very clear in this episode of Run.
He's not relying on an imagined scenario, he's SEEN this and he KNOWS he's right. But he doesn't direct his comment to the whole group, he tells Jimin to go home and look in the mirror because it's Jimin's ass he's seen in this exact situation.
Proof once again of the authenticity of their relationship. Nobody in their right mind would script this.... but I digress.
Who can blame our golden boy for grabbing that perky handful every chance he gets.
Doing so in public is such a flex, too. Because it's one thing to be rubbing it like a magic lamp in the privacy of your own home. It's a different thing entirely when you squeeze it and smack it on a stage in front of 60 000 people.

And Jimin used to swat him away but these days, the way Jimin doesn't even break stride, you know JK probably walks around the house with one hand fastened to Jimin's ass like it's his personal fidget toy
... like its his happy place
... like its his emotional support
... like its his.
It's not that i think about jibooty an unhealthy amount, its just that it's so buoyant that it rises to the top of my mind all the time... like a big, round, delectable bubble of happiness.
And i find myself imagining the joy it must bring to all involved. And i find myself smiling about that.
Ah, yes, the simple happiness of a perfect bottom... and his magnificent peachy butt.

Sigh...
I would send one of these to Jimin if it wasn't so utterly WRONG in every respect...

Obviously the biggest problem with this, is he would NEVER wear something from Temu 🤣🤣
I jest. I'd never do any such thing

I think you guys are thinking too much about it. AI or no AI a fic is a fic. It doesn't matter. You think you writing about real people is ethical? Writing them fucking and with controversial pairings? AI is all over the place like get used to it. If someone is using AI to fix their errors, or to just improve some writing why tf do you care? Y'all are just entitled. Not everyone's great at English. Just stfu and LET people write what they want. God.
hi, this is such an ignorant ask i'm incredibly surprised you felt confident enough to hit send! but i'll engage with you in good faith regardless.
yes, there are debates about the ethics of writing RPF, but i think comparing them to the ethical debates about the use of AI is frankly quite laughable. not only does AI have an incredibly detrimental impact on the environment, the impacts are likely to be unequal and hit already resource-strained environments the hardest. (i am providing sources for you here, something i'm assuming you're unfamiliar with since you are so in favour of relying on AI to generate 'original' thought). moreover, many AI models rely on data scraping in order to train these models. it is very often the case that creators of works on the internet - for example, ao3 - do not give consent for their works to be used to train these models. it raises ethical questions about ownership of content, and of intellectual property beyond fanfiction. comparing these ethical dilemmas to the ethics of rpf is not an argument that convinces me, nor i'm sure does it convince many others.
"AI is all over the place like get used to it" - frankly, i'm not surprised you're so supportive of AI, if this is the best argument in its favour you can muster. you know what else is all over the place?? modern slavery! modern slavery's extremely commonplace across the world, anti-slavery international estimate that about 50 million people globally are living in modern slavery. following the line of your argument, since modern slavery is so commonplace, this must make it okay, and we should get used to it. the idea that just because something is everywhere makes it acceptable is a logical fallacy. do you see how an overreliance on AI reduces your ability to critically think, and to form arguments for yourself?
please explain to me how i'm entitled for thinking that relying on AI to produce something of generally, extremely poor quality, is poor behaviour on your part, or the part of other people who do it. you don't have to write fanfiction in english, and if you do struggle with english, there are MANY talented betas in this fandom who i'm sure would be willing to lend a hand and fix SPAG. you are NOT going to improve your english by getting AI to fix it for you.
as @wisteriagoesvroom helpfully pointed out "art is an act of emotion and celebration and joy and defiance. it is an unshakeable, unstoppable feeling that idea that must and should be expressed" - this is not something you can achieve via the use of AI. you might think it's not that deep, but for many people who dedicate hours of their time to writing fanfiction, it feels very much like a slap in the face. and what's more, it produces negligible benefits for the person who is engaging in creating AI fanfiction.
i agree with you that people should write whatever they want, but the operative word in that statement is write. i do not, and will not ever consider inputting prompts into chatgpt a sincere form of artistic creation. thanks!

I don't want to keep clogging my blog with vent posts but uh... I guess this is a more general concern/observation
But it's getting real hard to stay motivated in fandom spaces when there's little compensation, and annoying occurrences are more frequent than good ones.
Mainly there's been less engagement/people showing interest in creators and their art (such as sending asks, making comments and reblogging with tags) and MORE parasocial interactions. This goes for both artists and writers.
Over this year I've noticed a vast disinterest within my public in general. Asks about ocs, my art, or just nice simple comments of ''I love your art'' has been getting more and more scarce. My follower number is bigger than 2-3 years ago sure and I get more likes on my posts but they are feeling more like just numbers and statistics than actual people who supposedly like my stuff.
And while people being parasocial with creators has always been a thing, I feel like it's gotten way worse... in general? People sending personal pictures out of the blue in hopes of being validated, unwanted psychological advice or assumptions about the creator without any established connection first ( <- these happened to me in the same week.) ventdump, just insensitive/lacking of common sense comments in general, unreasonable demands (mostly with writers)... I wondered at first if it was just me, but a handful of mutuals/acquaintances who are artists and writers seems to be going through it as well.
It's annoying. It's tough. It's getting exhausting. Creators pour so much of themselves into their work—countless hours, effort, and passion, all to share something meaningful or entertaining with others (and for FREE) The LEAST anyone can do is show respect, even if opinions differ. When a writer posts a fanfic, don't just say ''omg post next chapter!'', when an artist posts a drawing of their favorite character, don't just say ''omg draw (character) next!'' as if they're faceless content machines that are expected to churn out more '''content''' for you without acknowledgment, encouragement, or appreciation.
''I want to support creators but I don't know what to say and I feel intimidated by their talent so I just lurk silently :((('' I swear to you, no creator (at least not the majority) is making up an intimidating persona to discourage you from interacting with them. They WANT your comments. A single ''I love your art/writing/videos'' or even something as silly as ''I want to eat your art'' is enough to keep a creator sighing dreamily for WEEKS. It doesn't have to be deep! It's heartfelt and that's what it matters!! (Just remember to keep it relevant and thoughtful... It takes just a bit of common sense NOT to comment things like ''this looks like (another character)'' or ''this but with (another unrelated ship/character/show)''. No one wants to hear comparisons or unrelated ideas when they’ve poured their soul into something.)
In fact, the ''I like your art but I think you're intimidating'' feels more hurtful than flattering. It makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong, acting wrong. 💀
If you love that fanfic that changed your brain psyche forever and want to gush about it, go tell the writer. If you loved so much a piece of art that you saved it a million times in your phone and can't stop thinking about it, go tell the artist. Push away the ''they probably won't care about my comment/it won't make a difference'' thoughts. DO IT NOW. You won't know when they might go inactive forever or deactivate. You can't know if that is the last piece they will ever post. Make sure you show appreciation to creators NOW, while they are still here. While they're still not being replaced by AI.
#fandoms#to those users who always reblog my art with tags and comments I SEE YOU. YOU MAKE A WHOLE DIFFERENCE. YOU GIVE ME STRENGTH TO GO ON#to people who send asks about my oc or show genuine interest and appreciation for my art/me even if I take a whole ass year to answer#I still APPRECIATE IT so much and one day (hopefully) ill answer it with a cute lil doodle 😭#one time I made a rlly heartfelt comment of appreciation for one my fav jp artists on twitter which I thought was ''intimidating''#i thought they were gonna think my comment was obnoxious or rude for not being in japanese but I made sure to be respectful#to my surprise the artist responded me with a small drawing as a thankyou... and they did that JUST for me 😭😭 not anyone else#it really opened my eyes#people can FEEL your love and passion for their work even with language barrier#its literally SO easy to be nice. and also SO easy to not be a parasocial dick.#but more often its none of those#if people cared about artists there wouldnt be AI art/writing

This is the public statement from @alepresser and myself which went up at Webtoons tonight.
Now for some ranting. Just from me, not from Ale—she's innocent of the art crimes I've committed in the past, and boy howdy have I committed art crimes.

This is the first page of my first webcomic, A Girl and Her Fed. I started this thing back in 2006. (I don't actually need a head count of those reading this who weren't yet born in 2006. I'm sure you're delightful and I wish you well in college.)

And this is the last page I drew in early 2020 before I turned art duties over to Dr. Beer. It's better, right?
Well, these days, A Girl and Her Fed has pages like this:

I drew this comic for fourteen fucking years because it's a story I wanted to tell, and I thought webcomics were the perfect format for it. I didn't know how to draw. I got better through sheer obstinate perseverance and sticking to deadlines as best I could for, again, fourteen fucking years. I sought out a replacement artist when I ran into time constraints and couldn't do art plus writing anymore; I'm a much better writer than an artist, so I had no problems whatsoever kicking art to the curb.
The first time Ale sent me art that would go up on the website—art I hadn't needed to draw myself—I literally cried in relief because I had been grinding myself down for, yet again, fourteen fucking years.
So when I read comments from people who say they want to make a webcomic but can't draw themselves and therefore need to resort to AI, that little line between my eyes gets dangerously deep.
This isn't like I'm some old dude who's bitching over student loans getting cancelled after making regular payments. This is me, someone who threw raw art onto the internet like a monkey hurling fresh poo, because I wanted to make a webcomic and the art is part of the process of storytelling via webcomics! I could've (arguably should've) hired an artist right out of the gate, and that would've been part of the process of making comics, too: a partnership between an artist and a writer is also something which grows and develops over time.
For example, after Dr. Beer and I spent two years working on AGAHF, we decided we enjoyed our partnership so much that we set out to make another webcomic! It's great! It's got wonderful art and consistent storytelling! You should read it!
But turning art duties over to unaltered images generated by AI because you want to make a webcomic but "just can't draw" is, frankly, a bullshit excuse. I'm not talking about persons who are physically unable to draw due to disability—I'm talking about people who say they want to make webcomics but simply don't wanna do the art part.
Friends, if you don't want to show your entire ass in front of God and country, you don't actually want to make a webcomic.

Do the thing yourself.
If you're scared, don't be. Take the plunge. Set a goal of twenty strips and do the thing yourself. If you can already draw but can't write? Great! Write twenty strips, write forty panels, etc. You might surprise yourself. If you can write but can't draw? Great! Draw twenty panels and see what happens.
Whatever comes out of it, it's a thing you've done yourself. It's something new you've given to the world, no matter how big or small. Be proud of that. And if you need to partner with someone else to make your comic dreams work? You can do that, too! It's still a thing you've done yourself, and many projects are stronger when done together.
...but maaaaaaaaaybe hire that partner before you've busted your own ass for fourteen fucking years. That one's on me.

You look so beautiful when you cry

Sonny
You had a plan for tonight, but you weren't going to tell your boyfriend just yet. The two of you were chilling on the couch, watching some tv, when your hand landed on his thigh and you started to caress it. Your boyfriend looked at you with question marks all over his face, but when your hand moved between his thighs, the gears in his head were starting to turn, and he was picking up on what you were planning. You knelt in front of him, and your hands landed on his belt.
"Well, well, well... Now what do we have here?" your boyfriend said as he gently lifted your face up with his thumb and index finger. There was a devious smirk on your face as you took his dick out of his pants to stroke him to full hardness. Sonny's hand landed in your hair, giving it some gentle tugs. After you deemed him ready, you started giving some licks to the tip of his cock, tasting the bitter precum that was slowly starting to ooze out. You took the tip into your mouth as your hand worked the base, and Sonny let out some soft moans as you did so. "Fuck, that's good, baby. Can you take more for me?" your boyfriend asked, and you nodded as a reply since your mouth was kind of occupied right now. You started taking his cock deeper, bobbing your hand up and down. Occasionally you would take his balls into your mouth as your hand stayed busy stroking his cock or playing with the slit.
Your boyfriend was starting to let out louder noises, biting his bottom lip to try and keep quiet. He knew you loved for him to be vocal, but he would always get embarrassed about the kind of sounds he would make when he was so lost in pleasure. One hand went up towards his mouth to pull his lip out from between his teeth, halting your movements for just a few seconds to say, "Let me hear you, please. I need to hear you. I want to know if I'm doing well or not." You knew full well that you were doing well, but you were hoping this could convince your boyfriend to be a little louder with you, and he decided to let you hear it.
You started sucking again, and his grip on your hair tightened, and he was letting out some delicious mewls. You could tell he was slowly getting closer, but you wouldn't let him cum just yet. He didn't know it yet, but he was in for a long, long edging session. "Fuck, I'm close, babe..." Sonny said as his breathing was becoming uneven and the pressure in his lower stomach was slowly starting to build. When you knew his orgasm was so close, you stopped what you were doing and pulled off of him.
Sonny, obviously confused but still trying to catch his breath, looked at you with pleading eyes. "I'm not letting you cum anytime soon, baby. We both know it will only make the orgasm more intense when I eventually do let you," you said as you started moving your hand up and down his dick again when you deemed his orgasm far away enough. "No... No... I'm not sure how much of this I can take today..." your boyfriend pleaded with you. He had such a busy day behind him, and he just wanted to cum so badly, but he knew that once you made up your mind, you were going to do whatever you wanted.
So you edged him. Again, and again, and again, and then some more. Sonny was starting to turn into a whimpering and crying mess. He was crying so much at this point that he thought he was going insane. That delicious edge was coming so close every time, but you would also deny him every time. He was whimpering, pleading for you to please let him cum. "I'm not sure I can at this point. You look so beautiful when you cry," you said with a devious smirk on your face. All Sonny could reply with was more begging. Begging you to please let him cum. That it would feel so good and that he needed it so much. You knew that you had completely broken him with pleasure at this point, so you decided to give him what he wanted.
"I can't... I can't take this anymore. Please let me cum... Please... I am so close... Pleasepleasepleaseplease-" your boyfriend whimpered and squeaked, and in this moment he just looked so delicious to you. You stopped just long enough to say, "Alright then, cum. Now what do we say when we get something we want?" you said and immediately went back to it, keeping the tip in your mouth and working the base with your hand. "I'm gonna- FUCK. FUCK. Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Sonny was pretty much screaming at this point as he released into your mouth, and your hand squeezed tighter to milk him dry of all the cum he had to give you.
All the muscles in Sonny's body relaxed as he fell back onto the couch, his breath so heavy he thought he was going to pass out. You chuckled and moved to sit on his lap, gently taking his head into your hands and running your tongue over his cheeks to lick the tears from them. "Absolutely beautiful," you whispered into his ear, and then you nuzzled your face into his neck. Sonny thought he had died and gone to heaven. The relief that washed over him was so intense. He held you close as he tried to steady his breathing.
Kaelix
Your boyfriend had been following you around the house all day, leaving some heated kisses anywhere he could. He kept whispering in your ears how badly he wanted night to come already so he could shower you in love. It would leave you blushing every time, wondering if he had something special planned for tonight. He kinda did, but he wasn't going to let you in on this little secret yet.
About a week ago, he actually made you cry after he had edged you for like 10 million times. Tears were streaming down your face, so lost to pleasure, but that orgasm being ripped away from you each time made you so frustrated and that much more sensitive. It had looked so absolutely beautiful to him, and it amplified his own pleasure as well, so he was desperate to see you fall apart like this once more.
Night came, and after the two of you had gotten ready for bed, he was quick to push you onto your back and pull you into a needy French kiss. You moaned into his mouth, wrapping your arms around him to pull him closer. "Fuck, baby. I need you so bad. And I want to make you cum so many times you'll lose count. I need to see you cry again," your boyfriend admitted, and finally, it clicked into your mind why your boyfriend had been so needy for you all day. "Now all you've been doing today makes sense. I'm not complaining in the slightest, though," you replied with a giggle as you pulled him in for another kiss.
The two of you got undressed, and your boyfriend put you into a mating press, knowing full well that that was one of your favourite positions ever. He wasted no time getting inside of you, noticing you were impatient and you just wanted to get to it already. When he pushed in in one swift motion, both of you moaned in unison. Your boyfriend started moving his hips, going faster and deeper over time. You held him close, holding on for dear life as he was dicking you down like only he could do. He knew your body so well, and he knew exactly which spots to hit to get you to let out such erotic moans that he savoured every time he heard them.
You wanted to cum so bad, and luckily for you, your boyfriend would love to do nothing more than to see you apart, and he knows just how to do it. He angles his hips downwards, making his dick rub against your clit to get you closer and closer. As you bite his shoulder, you cum hard. But your boyfriend is not done with you. He keeps moving, overstimulating you to hell and back while he attempts to give you another orgasm. Kaelix kisses you in between grunts because, dear god, he wants to cum so bad too. But he was going to hold himself back for now, until he would get you to orgasm #2.
You could feel said orgasm approaching you like a freight train, and your boyfriend could tell with how hard your pussy was sucking him in, never wanting to let go of his cock. He angled his hips downwards once more and got busy leaving a hickey on your neck. After he let go of your neck and gave you such a seductive smirk, you came once more, the bouncer following soon after. You could feel his warm and sticky seed paint your walls white, and you were on cloud nine, trying to come down from your high.
But nope, you weren't allowed to. Your boyfriend, still being firm inside of you, set his own overstimulation aside to give you another mind-blowing orgasm. So that's what he did. Over and over again until you were weeping and whimpering in overstimulation, absolutely lost in pleasure. You wanted it to stop, but at the same time, you didn't. It felt so good, and you were so delirious that you didn't know up from down. All that you knew was him, and only him.
"God, look at you crying for me, baby. You look so incredibly pretty right now, fuck-" your boyfriend said as he leaned forward to lick away your tears, which just kept spilling from your eyes. "Kaelix... I can't do it anymore... I can't... I'm... So exhausted..." you sobbed in between his harsh thrusts. You felt like you were kind of zoning out at this point, the pleasure so overwhelming that you were at the same time getting kind of desensitised to it.
"C'mon, you can give me one more, can't you? Let go just one more time. I need to feel you clamp down on my cock one more time." your boyfriend whined, him being close to tears himself from overstimulation but he would never admit it. But you could tell, you knew him too well after all. A single tear left his eye, and collecting your final strength, one hand reached up to wipe that tear away and lick it from your finger. And this was so incredibly hot to your boyfriend that he released inside of you, close to screaming your name. Feeling him fill you up sent you over the edge as well, letting out such a loud moan that sounded way whinier than you ever wanted it to.
Your boyfriend collapsed next to you and put his head onto your boobs, trying to catch his breath for a solid minute as you did the same. You were both so incredibly spent. You couldn't move a muscle. So, you were just stuck there, swimming in a pool of cum and your own release. You thought it was gross, but you had no strength left to take care of it now. Oh well, there is always tomorrow. Your boyfriend had already fallen asleep, and you followed soon after.

Just encountered something that made me so viscerally mad I had to stop everything I was doing and scream about it into the void (you are the void, tumblr, thank you for your time)
Ever seen that little test tube icon at the top of your Google search? That's Search Labs.

This led me to reading about all the "experiments" they have going on and OH BOY, this is the one that got me mad enough to actually leave feedback (bear in mind I like NEVER leave comments or reviews on things so you know it's bad)

Of all the "experiments" they are launching with their Search Labs, this one is the most egregiously transparent attempt to capitalize on the human brain's superiority over a computer's.
I see what they are doing.
"Look at these auto generated images and try your best to tell us what you think the original prompt is! Teehee, isn't this a fun test? Don't you want to have fun?? Play our game, uwu".
This is about as blatant as you can get: they want to train their Ai to get better at generating its frankly often garbage results by using real people to tell it how it could have done better.
My guess as to why Google is even doing this: ◽️Let’s say you use of one of Google's programs to generate an image based on your own personal written prompt (I know YOU wouldn't, fair tumblr user, but stay with me here)
◽️You are subsequently frustrated at the slop Google generated for you, and select a button that says something along the lines of "I am not satisfied with this result".
◽️This auto-triggers something on Google's end, which I assume captures this response along with the image it is attached to.
◽️Now, they can put that picture in front of thousands of unwitting people who can tell Google EXACTLY what "prompt" they associate with that image instead. Exactly the words that it SHOULD be tagged with.
These pieces of ai "art" are NOT good, let me make that clear. What financial benefit would Google have to present a panel of testers with perfectly generated images? To make this game in the first place? The only way ai can advance is when humans tell it what it did wrong. Because the computer doesn't fucking know what a raven vs a writing-desk is. It needs us to give it the words to think. Poor baby gets confused when we are vague. :(
All this under the guise of a cutesy little "test". A "game".
This is not fun, and it is extremely scummy. Do better Google. Be better. I'm attaching some screenshots of the first "level" so you too can enjoy the art of prompting!!! (she says with so much dry sarcasm the Deserts of Arrakis spontaneously turn into an ocean)

And to have the audacity to show the actual real pieces of art made by real artists that they trained this stupid machine with. Fuck entirely off.
#as an artist this makes me absolutely furious and i hope you are as well#its the assumption that we aren't smart enough to see through the ruse that really fucking gets me#wow this is worthless!#fuck ai#fuck google#fuck all the techbros#fuck the whole goddamn system#rant#ai#artificial intelligence#google
