My Thoughts about Wonderful Pretty Cure Henshin

Pretty Cure, My Evolution! Welcome to animal-themed Pretty Cure, Wonderful Pretty Cure!
Like what I said in ending clips in final episode before, I'll post all of my overall thoughts here. Series-wise, itâs somewhat an improvement compared to the previous series. Why? Itâs because the characters are treated equally, and there is some plot points that are foreshadowed earlier rather than waiting for the very end to know the said plot. But the most complaint we have for the series is the battles are more like⌠a chase scene. The staff of the series said in the beginning that there will be less combat like usual which has turned off many fans, but personally? Iâm gonna also complain but at the same time, I say that as a good thing. The monsters are corrupted animals that were ordered against their will, and keeping the same trend of the usual Pretty Cure series will cause animal abuse and that would be the last thing the staff wanted to teach children and everyone else watching this. Anyways, back to the topic.
While shorter transformations are pretty much fine for normal anime, Wonderful states that things can be rushed, the most notable is Wonderful Pact user where their henshin process is too fast that first watchers like me could barely catch on. In execution, Shiny Cats Pact users does it better. The roll call was also alike DeliPa and Iâll explain that later. But thankfully theyâre not as worse as Healing Stick users in HealinGood, because they did gave some energy and dynamic despite that. It does feel surprising that compared to past Pretty Cure series, this only lasted for third quarter of a minute as opposed to 1+ minute long, and now that I think about it, Kimi to Idol is 50+ seconds long...
Anyways, let's start to the details in the cut.
Cure Wonderful
(As stated in this post, Iâm referring her as C. Wonderful to prevent confusion to the word unique to this seriesâ title.)

Yeah, pretty basic. The elephant on the room (no, not the real elephant) is the lack of âpingâ on her hair that comes first during transformation process, but thankfully it was added in Episode 4. The detail where the tiara becomes side crown is nice and the decoration did become part of the outfit.
Cure Friendy

The change of her eye color was good and her hair-changing is nice too. But the decorations are pretty busy and distracts the audience to see most of the process, and itâs either didnât become the actual outfit like C. Wonderful did, or actually is but very vague that frame-to-frame is needed to appreciate it. In fact, I have to rewatch few times before knowing that her dress and shoes appear at the same time.
Cure Nyammy

I know itâs still Wonderful-style of transformation but wow, I really love how Itaoka (the one who does henshin for Rosetta, Princess, Twinkle, Ruby style, Gelato, Macherie-Amour, Milky, Earth, and previous three lead Cures before C. Wonderful) put so much effort towards this previously mysterious girl who is actually a cat! Her jumping, how her shoes are formed, the use of the full moon and snowflakes, itâs really stunning that it must be seen to be believed!
Cure Lillian

Still kinda good, I like the use of curtain in the beginning and white background representing the stage during the roll call that matches her character development and how she removes her ponytail and her clothesâ ping is used pretty well. And somewhat her roll call in the end is somewhat like Friendy.
As a Whole
Now for the real stuff. As I said before, the henshin process was too rushed that the first watchers canât keep up of whatâs going on. It is notable for Wonderful Pact users, but Shiny Cats Pact users makes it interesting despite that.
First off is Wonderful Pact users (C. Wonderful and Friendy). They spent too much on the item introduction and countdown, and the actual transforming part, letâs be harsh, is too unclear and rushed, with only 15 of 46 seconds spent on it! The âdecorationâ on the beginning of transforming part was distracting at first but gets point of disappears (Friendy) after finishing or them becoming part of the outfit (C. Wonderful). But I like the pun of their countdown of â3, 2, 1!â with the last number is replaced by âWoof!â which is referred as âWan!â, the sound dog would make in Japanese and also what âOne!â sounds like in the same region.
For Shiny Cats Pact user (Nyammy and Lillian), itâs an improvement. Some are still rushed, but at least the staff make sure they felt less distracting than the previous duo. I like the dark background and something to match their personality: the full moon for Nyammy and the theater curtain for Lillian. Also, due for the item being a make-up compact, they need to apply the feature on that, such as Lillianâs eyeshadow and Nyammyâs lipstick. Oh, and because the real-life product is purely a make-up kit and no voices on it, the henshin voices are instead kept into Amity Ribbon Tambourine, the weapon version of Shiny Cats Pact.
The beginning process of their transformation is unique too. The animal Cures, C. Wonderful and Nyammy starts with hair change (though the latter starts with blush but itâs one-time thing), while Friendy and Lillian starts with their eyes. In terms of process for human Cures, Friendy starts with eyes right before changing her hair, then Lillian apply the eyeshadow to do that, and her hair changes alongside her dress.

Then thereâs roll call. Like series such as Futari wa series, DokiDoki!, GoPri, and DeliPa, Wonderful Cures has two lines than one after transforming. The first being their usual Cure name, and the latter is the compliment or approval to the animal, which makes sense due for the animal theme and since their first enemies are corrupted animals. In terms of the second line, they went to mid close-up shot like those of Sailor Moon. For animal Cures, look at their mouth at the end pose from the individual sections above, while the human Cures reach their hand to the audience.
Speaking of individual transformation, donât forget the team ones. It reuses the individual footage with some split-screen on it. But it would take until later episodes for it to happen: the Wonderful duo has one in Episode 8, Nyanderful duo is in Episode 21, and it would take until Episode 30 for the duos transforming as a quartet. Between this time, C. Wonderful and Friendy has solo henshin in order early on, while in 20-ish episode itâs Wonderful Pact user followed to Shiny Cats Pact user (or reverse in one part), and finally as a full team they shift music on whichever Pact users is the main. If Shiny Cats Pact users was the main focus in one episode then the music is their own theme, and so does Wonderful Pact users if theyâre the focus.
For team poses in both dual and team henshins, C. Wonderful and Friendy has cheerful vibes on their pose, Nyammy and Lillian has eye-to-eye scene and has some cool vibes on it. As full team, I like the first duo kneel down with dog poses while the second one join hands.
There is also short transformation sequence where the animal Cure will turn into human or vice versa. Thankfully itâs just for the mirror scene from Wonderful Pact like Himitsu no Akko-chan because if theyâre going too real they might scare the children, including me. Itâs not always shown everytime though, as in Episode 4 where Komugi transforms instantly into human just by her will alone before becoming C. Wonderful, also itâs a good way to become less repetitive. Only Komugi has the footage where she goes from dog to human, or vice versa like it was shown once in Episode 3. Strangely enough, this was abandoned after the Cures switch into midwinter clothes (starting from Episode 40), so no wonder that there are no summer clothes for the team like previous two series did? But they did have the version where they changed into their movie clothes...
Power-Ups (Boost and Form)

Since this team is about animals, there are times where the Cures need to boost their capabilities to help with their chase action. This mode is Help! Kirarin Animal and they are nine to choose from.

(from top left to bottom right: Bear, Fawn, Lion, Swan, Penguin, Hamster, Fox, Rabbit, Panda)
Let's start with the order the Kirarin Animal debuts after they were purified. Rabbit gave a pair of bunny-ear headphones to enhance their hearing (this is predictable since I watched Anyamal Tantei Kiruminzoo where one of the team is rabbit-themed). Penguin gives sliding capabilities while also creates ice on the ground. Lion can enhance their speed. Bear increases their strength to carry heavy things. Fawn increases their jumping capabilities. Hamster can shrink the users. Fox can shapeshifts the other Cures into anything they desire, but the movie reveals that they can also do this to themselves. Panda gave the user glasses to put the target to sleep, and lastly, Swan gave purple wings to the user for flight capabilities. For their frequencies, only six out of nine are used the most, while Rabbit and Panda are used less and Hamster is only used once.

After Hirogaru Sky ditches power-up forms in favor of the new Cure, the series revisits its roots once again with the power-up form called Diamond Ribbon Style. The transformation shows more detail on their new forms as opposed to DeliPa who doesnât show their full appearance of Party Up Style forms. Both series has the mascot that help them gain their new form, but compared to the two, I think Wonderful does better in terms of how they treat the footage, even though the attack is straightforward and to the point. And... Eternal Tie Shower attack footage does show that they probably wonât bother with any actions outside the ultimate attack in this form. But the close-up of the power-up outfit... I think it would be better if it was only shown at least once or occasionally rather than every time the stock footage attack is used. And the only out-of-stock footage moment is Episode 49 where they reach their hand to the final villain (but only during the attack, though). Anyway, I have the Henshin GIF post dedicated to this, so you might want to check if youâre curious.

(seriously, this is the only time we got a special scene in this form outside stock footage)
Of course, thereâs not just that! Aside for the main Cures, we have...
Nico

Hm... the time when she actually does this for the first time is fine and there is also the time where she can do out of footage moments, but she has multiple version of Eternal Tie Shower. In Episode 39, Nico fades from unicorn to human-like form. But not too bad, especially if there are three versions of this ultimate attack (or four if you count the movie attack).
Also, in Episode 40 she can either intentionally or unintentionally turn humans into animals as seen for Iroha and Mayu, and later Satoru through dark pink 'poof' smoke. I guess you can watch the episode for that alone if you so wish. Otherwise, you can check their animal form here and with the keychains alongside their respective pet.
Toyama duos

Yes, I say Toyama duos because Satoru and his pet rabbit Daifuku share the same surname, and itâs quite unique too. The movie version (left) is rather... non-existent at least, but I guess they want to save it as a surprise for movie viewers in the cinema. Then in Episode 49 (right) we got a more proper sequence. Itâs short, but also quite awesome. I know that many arenât too happy about the main quartet is the main Pretty Cure team in the season, but the movie and second-to-last anime episode are our saving grace for this bunny duo. As many would say, better late than never. According to this tweet, their transformed forms are called âMirror Stone Styleâ. For those who want to see Daifuku turned human and later transforming together with Satoru, here's the Henshin GIF for you.
With that said, time for rankings! Here's mine for the main Cures:
Nyammy
Lillian
C. Wonderful & Friendy
(the Inukai duos are a tie, I can't choose which one is better than the other)
How's your thoughts about Wonderful Pretty Cure henshin? I'd like to see one from yours. As always, see you in my next post!

Some Girls Do Review
Some Girls Do by Jennifer Dugan
CW: Abusive Parent, Emotional Abuse, Physical Abuse, Homophobia, Queerphobia, Legal Struggles, College Admission Struggles, Money Problems, Swearing, Underage Drinking, Blood, Violence, Discussion of Sex, Mentioned Transphobia, Outing, Bullying, Domestic Abuse, Misogyny, Classism, Slut-Shaming
5/5
Sometimes a book will give you something you weren't expecting. In my case, Jennifer Dugan's Some Girls Do gave me closure for Hayley Kiyoko's Girls Like Girls novel. They each have a relationship with a similar dynamic, even though they're set 15 years apart. It's what Kiyoko's book should have been. Some Girls Do also made me understand why I still had a draw to Dugan's writing despite her other books (more on this later). This novel was so sweet and well written, and it also understood how to handle the heavy material included.
Some Girls Do starts when Morgan transfers to a new school near the end of the school year in her senior year of high school. Ruby runs into her that day, almost. Despite their rocky start, these two girls can't help but be interested in the life of the other. Morgan is facing a legal battle with her old school, which had discriminated against her for being a lesbian. She's a track star, but this is leaving her future in question. Ruby is seen as white trash because she's poor and does pageants at her mother's request. Except she doesn't have much control over her life at all. What she wants is to fix cars, and she might have a plan to do that. Will Morgan and Ruby be able to help each other or will they make things worse?
My first introduction to Dugan was Hot Dog Girl. I liked the book well enough, I even recommended it to a few people. Ultimately, the relationship didn't really work in it. The love interest deserved better than the main character. I tried Verona Comics next. Shakespeare, comics, and a bi dude? That absolutely sold it! Unfortunately, the relationship was so toxic that I'm not sure how I made it through the book. Despite only having read these two books by Dugan, I never swore off her writing. Her books have been on my radar. I can tell they do well because there's always a line on Libby. I'm careful about putting books on hold because I don't want them all to come in at once, but I finally put two more of Dugan's books on hold (look out for Love at First Set in the future!). I'm glad I did, as I was enamored with Some Girls Do the whole time.
It should come as no surprise by this point that the thing I valued the most in Some Girls Do was the relationship between Morgan and Ruby. Only one was out and both were experiencing queerphobia within their communities. Morgan had recently left a bad relationship and Ruby didn't feel safe enough to commit to one, no matter the gender. There were a lot of chances for their relationship to not work, but the book explored what they could do about that. It never felt like Dugan was asking us to accept a situation that felt toxic as romantic. She learned, for sure. She also included a range of queer experiences and showed the importance of queer spaces for teenagers. Other queer identities included in this novel were trans, non-binary, and pansexual. Different experiences and situations were also explored. Not everyone has the same queer experience, but we can still be stronger and safer together.Â
One thing I enjoy about Some Girls Do is that not everything has to be neatly tied up or turn out the way you expect for the characters to find happiness or a good future. The book absolutely has an ending, but there's the suggestion that the story is still ongoing for Morgan and Ruby. They still have things to face and enjoy in the future, but we got to be there while they went through this part. Although the pacing was confusing at times it didn't affect my appreciation of the novel. Dugan is great with plot and world-building, and now characters too. This book was released back in 2021, so I'm excited to see how she's grown since!
If you're looking for a heavy but wholesome queer teen love story, Some Girls Do by Jennifer Dugan is a great option. You'll get rewarded with 2 whole instances of the title being said by characters, relatable queer thoughts, and lines that make you laugh out loud. Go on and give the book a try, you know that some girls do!

Ranking Every SPN Season Finale
15) 11.23 Alpha and Omega. Dead last because not only is Chuck and Amaraâs conflict defanged with a frankly silly anticlimax, but a lot of runtime is eaten up with establishing Lady Toni getting on a plane. The great weakness of an otherwise very strong season is that none of the awful compromises Sam and Dean and Cas made (especially Sam wrt Lucifer) ended up having relevance at all.
14) 9.23 Do You Believe In Miracles. Cheesy dying dialogue, Metatron hamming it up for way too long, that facepalming âthe radio was on the whole! time!â twist, uncertainty as to the motivation of the whole confrontation that ends in Deanâs death. Also, this is the beginning of the end of walking back the beautiful work the rest of s9 established, with Sam saying things like âI lied.â I donât like Deanâs death here at all, in staging, or conceptually, or thematically.
13) 12.23 All Along The Watchtower. I am basically obliged to put this in C tier because it is quite silly, but frankly, I like it more than its ranking deserves. It has the late season finale sin of cramming in an introduction to next seasonâs conflict in the middle of wrapping up this seasonâsâbut itâs absolutely hilarious that they brought in multiverse portals. And for Sam and Dean, thank god the portal appeared, because otherwise they had absolutely no plan whatsoever to deal with Lucifer, and they probably would have died gruesomely. High points: Sam discovering Rowenaâs death on the phone with Lucifer; the spooky introduction of Jack, the raised stakes with Mary trapped with Lucifer. Lowest point: the utter silly pointlessness of Casâs death.
12) 10.23 Brotherâs Keeper. This is the finale that I have the strongest mixed feelings about. There is a queasy lack of self-awareness in the treacly sentiment when Sam presents family photos as evidence of Deanâs goodness. The excuse of MOC!Dean as not the ârealâ Dean allows for the reasons behind this confrontation to be elided, even as its themes are echoed again and again. The chilling horror of Sam on his knees in front of Dean the executioner is potent and darkly enjoyable, but the instant redirection into attacking Death prevents any kind of real culmination. I canât decide if I like this episode or loathe it, but I do think I appreciate it more now, after 14.20 and 15.17, than I did when it aired.Â
11) 7.23 Survival of the Fittest. Weâre on to B-tier! Thereâs nothing significantly wrong with 7.23. Meg crashes the Impala through a glass sign, so thatâs fun. Kevinâs there. Thereâs action, thereâs some cool stakes for next season established, Sam is left alone, which I love. The main sin here is just that most of it is fairly forgettable, because the strongest part of s7 was always the psychological drama of the Winchestersâ disintegration and isolation, not the physical conflict with Leviathans.
10) 14.20 Moriah. Lots of my points about 10.23 apply here, but Moriah is a much better episode, both because there is actual conflict of opinion, and because there is a lot more built-in uncertainty about Jackâs fate than Samâs. Jack and Dean are onboard with Jackâs murder, just as Sam and Dean were agreed on Samâs death in 10.23, but this time Cas is staunchly against it, and Sam is on the fence, torn as to how to intervene. So itâs much better drama. But then the crux of the issue gets defanged by Chuckâs reveal. Great s15 setup, but kicks the 14.17-14.19 build down the road. Extra points for Sam shooting God.Â
9) 13.23 Let the Good Times Roll. I fucking love the 13.21-13.23 arc. The only thing preventing 13.23 from being A-tier are some wholly avoidable mistakes. The staging is silly; a face-palming amount of time was wasted on Maggie; the wires were a deeply regrettable choice. But even with all that, what we got was great, actually! The Sam-Jack-Lucifer church custody battle is still my favorite goddamn thing. Dean saying yes to Michael was both his only smart move and a devastating sacrifice. The character dynamics here are so JUICY. 13.21-14.01 is, IMO, one of the most fertile grounds for fic and speculation in the entire show.
8) 2.22 All Hell Breaks Loose, Part Two. Now weâre into finales that are fantastic without reservation. Off the devastation of Samâs death comes Deanâs iconic deal. The actual confrontation in the graveyard is good too, though itâs second to the way weâre all reeling from part one. Azazel dies, Sam and Dean are bloodied and facing down new stakes. The only thing I dislike about this episode is Johnâs cameo.
7) 1.22 Devilâs Trap. This is the episode that ups the ante! Azazel in John, and Dean, and Sam, and the delicious family dynamic here; the stakes are so personal, and itâs a great examination what each of them is willing to pay for their quest: an electrifying taste of whatâs to come. And the music, and the sheer fucking balls of just, crashing a goddamn truck into your main characters at the end of the first season. Nice.
6) 3.16 No Rest for the Wicked. Lilith is delightfully evil. Weâre on tenterhooks for Sam to save Dean, weâre narratively primed to expect him to pull off something amazing, a last-minute miracle. Butânope! Sorry! Dean gets graphically ripped apart onscreen and now heâs being tortured in Hell! Shocking and bold, and a crucial turning point in the series.Â
5) 4.22 Lucifer Rising. Fresh off 4.21 comes an excellent culmination of season 4â˛s devastation. The reveals from both Ruby and the angels, Sam draining the possessed nurse, Cas at last choosing to betray Heaven, and the final arrival of Lucifer: it all just works, really well.Â
4) 15.20 Carry On. Part of the reason Iâm ranking this so highly might be spite. But goddammit, bad wig and worse Carry On cover aside, this is a good episode, and a really, really good series finale! The deliberate anticlimax of Deanâs death, the quiet strength in Samâs grief, the untroubled, unrushed pacing of Samâs recovery and aging, and Deanâs drive. Supernatural said Sam Rights, and I wept like a tiny little baby.Â
3) 6.22 The Man Who Knew Too Much. Adventures in Samâs mind! Cas and Crowley and Raphael and the double cross! The taste of cosmic horror! The end of season 6 and beginning of season 7, as Sam and Dean cope simultaneously with Samâs psychological fallout and the consequences of their most powerful ally going off the rails, is fantastic. I love the literalism and the symbolism of Samâs reintegration: this is an unapologetically Sam episode (as are the other top four, come to think of it).Â
2) 8.23 Sacrifice. Samâs heartbreaking deterioration in the church and Crowleyâs disintegration are an electrifying climax to the trials. Dean and Samâs final exchange is a breathtaking combination of raw emotion and delirium and a fascinating guilt trip. Itâs a visually and conceptually stunning episode: the angels fall burning against a night sky; Sam surrenders the trials and collapses, dying.Â
1) 5.22 Swan Song. You knew this would be number one, I knew this would be number one, we all knew this would be number one. Itâs iconic for a reason. Sam and Lucifer talking through a mirror; the loss of all hope and the sky-high stakes. Stull Cemetery is the defining moment of so, so much of the rest of the series. Deanâs loyalty gives Sam the strength he needs to bury himself alive forever with his worst nightmare, and it saves the world, and itâs the highest cost either of them has ever paid. Â

RWBY 6 Wishlist!
Spoilers shall be entailed, so donât read further if you donât want to be spoiled. Here is my wishlist for the next season of RWBY.
1. Cinder stays dead.
2. Emerald gets a story arc and plays more prominence.
3. Ground Hazel again because...what was that!?
4. The return of Neo.
5. The âreturnâ of Pyrrha (grim/villainous Pyrrha).
6. Ruby finds out something important regarding her mother, Summer. Something she may not like to hear and that will rattle her to her core.
7. Blake and Yang centered episode (but not ship/Bumblebee centric; more a tense overcoming of their shared past demons).
8. Uncle Qrow stays UNCLE Qrow and not daddy Qrow.
9. Adam Taurus to make good on his promise of dismantling everything Blake loves instead of running off like a whimpy infant at the first opportunity or just end his story arc (either or).
10. Reese Chloris surprise! (Such a good character design being wasted and unused).
11. The reconstruction of Penny (not necessarily the return of).
12. They donât make it to Atlas...or rather Atlas doesnât make it (come on, the formula has to be changed a little bit. Itâd be a cool cliffhanger in the final episode of vol. 6 to see Atlas up in flames as the heroes arrive, realizing theyâre too late. And seeing Weiss concerned despite her trepidation of returning so soon).
13. Glenda Goodwitch return (uh..., new voice actress of course). Maybe she gets captured by Salem to lure Ozpin/Oscar and team to Salemâs lair, but the team has to make the choice to press onward to Atlas.
14. More Ilia (I liked her and the dynamic she has with Blake, which I donât think played as much importance as it could have been handled).
15. Raven and Taiyang stay written off. I think the end scene was a sendoff to her character now that sheâs with him again. Thereâs no need for Raven to be in the story anymore now that Yang has taken on her burden of the relic.
16. No NEW character introductions. RWBY has way too many characters as it is, with some designs having so much promise but were and are absolutely wasted to obscurity. Instead, they need to re-purpose who theyâve introduced into new roles and fill in the gaps.
So yeah. Thatâs my wishlist. Some of those are reasonable. Some have been long wanted by many in the fandom. Others are probably impracticable. But, itâs just what Iâm hoping to see and so we shall see how many I might have gotten close to getting.

New from Every Movie Has a Lesson by Don Shanahan: MOVIE REVIEW: Scoob!

SCOOB!â 2 STARS
One of the classic catchphrases of the old Scooby Doo franchise is the vocalized signal, often from the eager mouth of their de facto leader Fred, of âlooks like weâve got another mystery on our hands.â The new CGI reboot Scoob! now on VOD platforms answers that rhetorical realization with both possible extremes. The movie doesnât have one and the canyon-sized narrative hole because of it leaves us more perplexed than satisfied with a shoulder shrug and a chin rub of our own (emoji optional).
Since this new movie wants so badly to modernize the settings and character vernacular for a new generation, itâs fair to lay one of our own fad phrases as viewers and fans. This is a Scooby Doo movie, one that wants to kick-start a new franchise with a new shared Hanna-Barbera universe. So, Scoob!, you had one job. The name on the side of the van says âMystery Machine.â The name of this curious cliqueâs entrepreneurial venture is âMystery Incorporated.â Where is the mystery? Insert your âlookingâ GIF of choice. Â
Moving to our present time of smartphones, laptops, and electric cars, the screenwriting team led by Matt Liebermann (The Addams Family, The Christmas Chronicles) crafts a very adorable origin story. A friendless teen Shaggy (Young Sheldonâs Iain Armitage) is listening to, what better for the now then, a motivational podcast between his ears through the sidewalks and sand of Venice Beach, California. When he helps the titular Great Dane stray pup out of a gyro-stealing pickle with a bike cop (Super Troopers nut Kevin Heffernan), they become new friends.Â
LESSON #1: EVERYONE NEEDS A FRIENDâ Long have audiences loved the inseparable dynamic between Shaggy and Scooby. Seeing a take on their first introduction and flourishing bond for one another other is indelibly charming. Their mannerisms, from every shiver of fear or bite of insatiable appetite, couldnât be more symbiotic. Go ahead and get every tween a dog or a cat right now. The two really complete each other, but, as always, the more the merrier.
Soon after on a Halloween night jaunt, the two best buds come to meet a knight in shining armor, Wonder Woman, and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in the form of a costumed Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, and Velma Dinkley. The five of them squash a fiendish local thief messing with trick-or-treaters and a team is born. And just like that, in the first 15 or so minutes, Scoob! has already spent its reboot concept and signature spookiness.Â
Fast-forwarding a decade to their adult selves voiced by Frank Welker (the original Fred now playing Scooby), Will Forte, Zac Efron, Amanda Seyfried, and Gina Rodriguez, the quizzical quintet is trying to get sponsorship for their detective business (a bland cameo from Simon Cowell) only to stumble into a much larger plot. Oblivious to the general public, Dick Dastardly (professional movie villain Jason Isaacs) is reeking havoc in the skies and seeks to unite three artifacts to release the mythical Cerberus and âdogpocalypseâ upon the world. Standing against Dick is the jet-set social media-obsessed celebrity superhero Blue Falcon (Mark Wahlberg) and his do-all-the-work squad of Dynomutt the Dog Wonder (Ken Jeong) and Dee Dee Sykes (Kiersey Clemons).Â
LESSON #2: GET YOUR HERO MOMENTâ Dick Dastardly sees Scooby as some kind of ancestral key to unlocking his prophecy. To fight back, the Blue Falcon team switches out Scoobyâs special collar for a supersuit of his own to fight back. Thrust into a globe-trotting adventure, things build for all the good guys to need a âhero momentâ to validate their confidence and place of success. Staying all 2020 again, insert your âeyerollâ GIF of choice.
LESSON #3: FRIENDSHIP WILL SAVE THE DAYâ When itâs all said and done, there is a pushback to the adversarial burns in the movie that claim âfriendship wonât save the day.â To stay hip again, we all know âteamwork makes the dream work.â Having friends is always a big help and the best of them will come to your aid with all the spirit and sacrifice they can muster.
The new computer-powered animated gait of this movie is a busy-bodied approach with fuller perspective than the side-to-side camera antics of the classics. Fitting its inflated comic book-like size, complete with sky energy beams, moping laments, and a zillion other tropes, Scoob! unfortunately becomes more about the battles and endless chases than any subtle games of quirks and clues. Warner Bros. throws a home improvement storeâs worth of kitchen sinks at something that only needed a drinking fountain. Sure, weâve all loved a dreamy Scooby Doo crossover/team-up in our chosen times, but this didnât need a âgo big or go homeâ injection of Hanna-Barbera extras. Ease into that with more of the tongue-in-cheek and less of the superfluous TNT.
Alas, itâs about the missing essence. Part of the fun of anything Scooby Doo is the low-tech, accidental intuition. Bells and whistles arenât the same as kicks and canât substitute for the good, old-fashioned simplicity of surprise. Mystery is the sorely needed trait for this appealing chance to start something fresh, young, and easy.
By having an earmarked villain with zero dramatic irony, all this entertainment exercise becomes, even with classic and archival sound effects sneaking in, is a predictable roller coaster with no wonderment. That couldnât be farther from what made these Joe Ruby and Ken Spears characters some of the greatest TV creations of all-time. Weâre now the ones asking âWhere Are You?â instead of enjoying and being challenged by a kitschy cinematic puzzle to solve. Itâs a shame because the content and the new origin had ripe and promising potential.

Emeralds: 10 Things you need to know before you buy

1.Bottom Line
Purchasing an Emerald is significantly less specialized than buying a Diamond. Since it's about the shading, you have to purchase your jewel from a site that has top-notch pictures of their stones, as Saphire Gems. The Importance of the Four C's As you most likely know, as of now from different articles on our site, we urge readers to find out about the significance of the 4 c's when acquiring jewels.Even though we utilize a similar 4 c's for emeralds, we give the more noteworthy or lesser load to everyone, as per its specific essentialness while surveying emeralds.
2.Color
Without an inquiry, shading is by a wide margin the most important of the 4 c's. What dazzles you immediately when you see an emerald is without a doubt it's shading â either an energetic, enthusiastic shading or a dull, limp shading â or conceivably someplace in the middle.
3.Emerald Tone
The tone of the emerald groups the stone regarding light and dull. Natural emeralds fall someplace in the range between Very Light and Very Dark. Many people erroneously accept that they ought to pick jewels of medium to exceptionally dull tone since they agree that the darker the sound, the better.
4.Emerald Saturation
It invigorates the shading of its power and strength. Immersion can extend from dull to unadulterated striking. So if, for instance, a medium dim stone has an exhausting, dull immersion, you likely won't get too eager about it.
5.Bottom Line
The primary concern to recall here is that the darker tonal and higher immersion evaluations will, for the most part, bring about a more significant expense tag. However, that doesn't imply that you probably won't discover an emerald stunningly excellent somewhat below this range.
6.Clarity
The other significant difference is that we expect to see inclusions (imperfections that lower the clarity grade) in about 99% of emeralds.Similarly, as with diamonds, emeralds with better clearness bring a more significant expense at the showcase. In any case, that is the place the examination closes. While with jewels, there is a reasonable lucidity reviewing scale, with emeralds, there isn't.The other significant contrast is that we hope to see considerations (defects that lower the lucidity grade) in about 99% of emeralds.
7.Emerald Treatments
Because of the exceptionally included nature of emeralds, it has become standard practice today to treat the stones with oils or tars to improve transparency. For enhancing emeralds' cedar oil is used, just as other engineered oils and polymers.
8.Cut
Similarly, as with diamonds, the slice of the emerald alludes to its faceting, shape, width, and profundity. Preferably, an emerald ought to be cut evenly with uniform features that take into account vital shading and brightness. Whenever cut too profoundly, the light will escape on the side, and the emerald will look dim.
9.Carats
Greater is better, correct? Well, not really. Carat weight decides the cost of the emerald, and a 4 carat stone will be more costly than a 1 carat stone, every other factor being equivalent.
10.Price
The original price of the Ruby gemstone will begin from as low as âš 800 and trend up to âš 2 Lakh per carat ($3076). You can easily buy original emerald stone from Saphire Gems, or you can also purchase ruby gemstone online from any certified gemstone shops.
Blue sapphires: 10 things you know before you buy

1.Colour
The shading is the thing that shade the Sapphire is. The critical factor in shading esteem is its immersion, basically how unadulterated or exceptional the shading appears. For most sapphires, the higher the degree of immersion, the better.
2.Clarity
Most sapphires will accompany a couple of considerations. Sapphires without any accounts should give doubt a role on their quality. You need to search for a sapphire that has no reviews evident to the unaided eye. Specialists take a gander at the size, area, and several factors to pass judgment on lucidity. The less visible the considerations are, the higher the evaluation.
3.Cut
The cut defines what makes a sapphire truly shimmer. The slice of a stone alludes to how it was faceted and cleaned from its harsh state. Sapphires have a cut evaluation, which factors in evenness, windowing, termination, and splendor.
4.Carat
we can estimate the heaviness of Sapphire in carats. Usually, bigger pearl quality stones are more enthusiastically to drop by than littler ones, so they are esteemed higher. How the weight influences, the cost will change between various hues. For instance, yellow sapphires are as often as possible found over 5 carats, while blue ones are somewhat harder to discover
5.Immersion
It alludes to the measure of shading present in the jewel. Immersion is the most significant part of shading reviewing because it has the most immediate effect on the last cost for the stone. A lot of immersion makes the stone look dim, while too little immersion makes the pearl look greyish. The ideal immersion is Moderate to Strong.
6.Tone
It is the relative delicacy or dimness of the shade of the stone. Stones that are too dull won't have brightness, though rocks that are too light won't flaunt the shadow of the rock. The ideal tone is Medium to Medium Dark.
7.Treatment of a Sapphire
Therapy is a word used to depict whatever has done to the Sapphire outside of regular cutting. The known treatments for Sapphire are:
 ¡ Untreated
 ¡ Fissure Filling With Glass
 ¡ Beryllium Treatment
¡ Heated (This is traditional heat treatment)
 ¡ Surface Diffusion
8.Star Sapphires
A new unique sort of Sapphire is the star sapphire. Such sapphires are unimaginably uncommon and profoundly looked for after. There are star rubies, also.
9.Sapphire Sources
We can mine sapphires around the world; however, the primary sources are Cambodia, Colombia, India, and Kenya. Different territories incorporate Afghanistan, Australia, Nepal, the United States, and Vietnam.
10.Price
The original price of the Blue sapphire will begin from as low as âš 50,000 and âš 5,00,000 plus ($750 to $7690) per Carat. You can easily buy original blue sapphire stone from sapphire Gems, or you can also purchase Blue sapphire gemstone online from any certified gemstone shop.

TOP PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE FOR WEB DEV.
CLEVERISM Top Programming Languages Used in Web Development June 21, 2015 by Martin 392 Home Magazine Top Programming Languages Used in Web Development With the popularity and advancements in web technology, it is imperative for every business to have a website and one which is highly functional and visually attractive. The process through which a good website, mobile apps or other similar platforms are created is known as web development. One of the most integral aspects of web development is web programming that is achieved with the help of programming languages. Web development languages are the platforms through which instructions are communicated to a machine and actions are pursued. Save Š Shutterstock.com | Danielala In this article, we shall learn more about 1) web development and programming languages as well as 2) focus on the most popular programming languages in the world. WEB DEVELOPMENT: AN INTRODUCTION Web development is a term that is used to refer to the process of creating a website and can range from developing a single simple page to a series of complex pages. Web development encompasses several actions or practices and some of them include web design, content creation, programming, network security tasks as well as client side or server side scripting, etc. In the recent few years, web development has taken the definition of the creation of content management systems or CMS, which is the mid-step between the user and the database. In order to pursue web development as a profession, one of the most important things that you will need to consider is having expertise in programming languages. WHAT ARE PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES? A programming language is used to control the actions of a machine. Such a language is a properly drafted or constructed language when it is designed in such a way that through it instructions can be communicated to a computer system. Ever since the invention of computers, thousands of programming languages have been created, and more are being created every year. A programming language is generally split into two components that are the semantics and the syntax. Where on one hand the syntax is the form or type, the semantics are the meaning of that type or form. Every programming language is different; where on one hand, some may be marked by a specification documents, others may have a dominant implementation or a reference. A programming language thus broadly is a notation that helps to write programs that are identified as an algorithm. Traits of a programming language The features or characteristics of a programming language can be referred to as its traits. The following are the three main traits of such languages that you must know about: Abstractions â Most of the programming languages have certain rules that help us define or mark the data structures as well as manipulate the way in which the commands are executed. These rules are referred to as abstractions. Every language needs to be supported by sufficient abstractions and this need is defined by the abstraction principle. The abstraction principle in some cases is derived as the recommendations given to a web programmer so that he/she makes the correct use of abstractions. Function and target â When you make use of a programming language, then besides doing the writing work on your own, you also need the help of the computer system that performs the computation work or controls the algorithm. The computer also controls the external devices associated such as the printer, the robots, etc. Thus, the complete definition of a programming language includes a description or a machine or processor that has been idealized for that language. This is one reason why programming languages differ from human languages of interaction. Expressive power â Languages are mostly classified by the computations that they are able to express. This very expressive power is yet another trait of programming languages and is an important one. Factors to be considered when choosing a programming language Since there are so many different types of programming languages, it can be difficult for a web developer to select which one to use and which one to leave. There are certain factors on the basis of a decision can be made, and they are given as follows: Targeted platform â The first thing you need to decide is where the program will be run. Not all languages are capable of running on all kinds of platforms. For example, a program written in C language requires compilers to run on Windows and Linux based systems. Language domain match â The language must be chosen on the basis of the problem domain that you have. One of the better ways to do so is by searching that language others in the same domain or industry are using or by trying to look for a code that resolves the issues that you may have. Efficiency â The compilers that go well with the language you choose must be efficient so as to make the language perform fast. Elasticity and Performance â The language you choose must be flexible enough to let you add more programs or features in it. Also, its overall performance must be to your suitability and liking. Availability of libraries â There must be a library that is capable of solving all your problems with the language that you select for web development. Project size â There are two types of programmingâs: large and small. You must select a language that can support your cause and suits the project size well. Expressiveness & Time to production â Make sure you pick that language that is highly expressive and the time taken to produce the programs or codes is not very bothersome to you. Tool support â Buy a tool-oriented language that offers you many elements and ways to edit, control and work. Save Š Flickr | Duncan Hull THE MOST POPULAR PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES The universe of programming languages is wide and knowing all or learning each one of them is neither practical nor possible. If you are a developer who is interested in learning the most useful and popular ones, then you must first know which ones of the thousands of languages to learn. Thankfully, there are certain websites and platforms that create lists of the top languages, according to their popularity. The list of the top 15 programming languages of this year are given below, and it is clear that JavaScript is the most popular followed closely by Java, Python, and others. Top 15 programming languages in 2015 JavaScript Java Python CSS PHP Ruby C++ C Shell C# Objective C R VimL Go Perl Letâs learn about some of these top languages in detail. 1.  JavaScript JavaScript is one of the most popular and dynamic programming languages used for creating and developing websites. This language is capable of achieving several things including controlling the browser, editing content on a document that has been displayed, allowing client-side scripts to communicate with users and also asynchronous communication. It was developed by Netscape and borrows a lot of its syntax from C language. JavaScript is used very widely and effectively in creating desktop applications as well as for developing games. One of the best things about JavaScript for you as a developer or a website owner is that this is one of the few programming languages that are accepted and supported by all the major browsers without the need of any compilers or plug-ins. It can also be worked with on platforms that are not web-based, for example-desktop widgets and PDF docs. This is a multi-paradigm language which means that it has a combination of features. Also, JavaScript supports functional and object-oriented programming styles. The features of a language define the way it will work, the way it responds, how easy is its code and what it can achieve. The following are some of the main features of JavaScript programming language for your reference: Structured â JavaScript is a highly structured language with a proper and planned syntax that has been derived from C. This language too has a function scoping by it lacks block scoping, unlike C. It too differentiates between statements and expressions, just like the fundamental C web programming platform. Dynamic â The types in JavaScript are not related with variables but with values. This is a dynamic programming language that enables you to test the type of an object in many different ways. Also, this programming language is object-oriented where all the objects are associative arrays. Functional â All functions in JavaScript are objects and are all first-class. They are associated with their own functions as well as characteristics. For example, a function within a function is called a nested function whereas this language also supports anonymous function. 2.  Java Java is yet another highly popular and widely used language that you can consider for web development. This language is an object-oriented, class-based and concurrent language that was developed by Sun Microsystems in the 1990s. Since then, the language continues to be the most in-demand language that also acts as a standard platform for enterprises and several mobile and games developers across the world. The app has been designed in such a way that it works across several types of platforms. This means that if a program is written on Mac Operating system then it can also run on Windows based operating systems. Java, when it was designed originally, was developed for interactive television, but the developers realized that this language and technology was way too forward for this industry. It was only later that it was incorporated into the use it serves today. Every language is created with a certain mission, goal or objective in mind. The following are the 5 major principles or goals that were kept in mind during the creation of this language: It must be a secure and robust programming language It must be an object-oriented, simple language which becomes familiar soon. It must be capable of being implemented and executed with high performance. It must be threaded, dynamic and interpreted. It must be portable and architecture-neutral. 3.  Python Python is a highly used and all-purpose programming language which is dynamic in nature. Being dynamic in nature means that you as a developer can write and run the code without the need of a compiler. The design of the language is such that it supports code readability which means that its syntax is such that only a few lines of codes are needed to express a point or a concept. This concept of code readability is also possible in the case of Java and C++, etc. This is a high-level or advanced language that is considered easy for beginners to understand and learn. Some of the apps that are powered by Python are Rdio, Instagram, and Pinterest. Besides this, some other web platforms that are supported by Python are Django, Google, NASA, and Yahoo, etc. Some of the other features of this language include automatic memory management, large library, dynamic type system and support of many paradigms. Python works on a core philosophy and follows its main principles in all seriousness. The language was designed with the aim of making it highly extensible. This means that the language can easily be incorporated or embedded in existing applications. The goal of the developers of this language was to make it fun to use one. The developers worked on the language in such a way that it could reduce upon premature optimization. Hereâs a look at some of the principles that have been summarized for you: Readability is important Complex is better than complicated- Beautiful is better than ugly Simple is better than complex Explicit is better than implicit 4.  CSS CSS or Cascading Style Sheets is rather a markup language. When paired with HTML, CSS allow a developer to decide and define how a web page or a website will eventually look or how it will appear to the visitors of the web platform. Some of the elements which CSS has an impact on include font size, font style, the overall layout, the colors and other design elements. This is a markup language that can be applied to several types of documents including Plain XML documents, SVG documents as well as XUL documents. For most websites across the world, CSS is the platform to opt for if they need help to create visually attractive webpages and finds use not just in the creation of web applications but also mobile apps. The languageâs syntax is pretty similar to that of HTML and XHTML, which work well in synchronization and combination of one another. The Style sheets included in CSS consist of a selector and a declarator. The simple syntax of the language uses several English language words to define the styling properties. 5.  PHP The term âPHPâ is used to define PHP Hypertext Processor language that is a free server-side scripting language that has been designed for not just web development but also as a general-purpose programming platform. This is a widely used language that was created in the year 2004 and now powers over 200 million websites worldwide. Some popular examples of websites powered by this platform include Facebook, WordPress, and Digg.com. PHP is an interpreted script language which means that it is usually processed by an interpreter. For this reason, the language is most suitable for server-side programming that have server tasks being repeatedly performed when the website development process is on. The following are some more points that shall help you understand the language better: PHP is an open source language and fast prototyping language. This language is compatible with UNIX based OS as well as Windows OS. Some industries where PHP is mostly used include startup businesses, advertising apps, and small software organizations as well as media agencies.
The language can be embedded in HTML directly. 6.  Ruby Developed in the year 1993, Ruby is a dynamic programming language that is used for the creation or programming of mobile apps and websites. The language successfully balances imperative programming with functional programming and is a highly scalable language. This open source platform is not only simple to understand but also easy to write. But if you are a developer who wants to learn Ruby, then you will also have to equip yourself with the knowledge of Ruby on Rails or Rails which is another framework which can help you make it interesting to deal with Ruby. For those who are interested in creating small business software and for those who are into the field of creative designing, Ruby is the perfect programming language. During its development, the idea was to come up with a language that was more productive in terms of programming and has a concise and simple code. Ruby is mostly used in the web servers where there is a lot of web traffic. Some examples of platforms that make use of this programming language include Hulu, Twitter, and Scribd, etc. 7.  C++ C++ is a general purpose, well compiled and case sensitive web programming language that is not only imperative but also offers facilities for low-level memory manipulation. Since the language makes use of both low-level features as well as the feature of high-level languages, it is considered as a middle-level language. This language was developed by Bjarne Stroustrup starting in the year 1979 and was later enhanced and renamed in 1983. Since C++ is an object oriented language, it supports the 4 principles of object oriented development including polymorphism, encapsulation, inheritance, and data hiding. C++ is similar to C language in a lot of ways and is in fact the superset of C. This means that any program of C language is a program of C++ programming language. The language has many technical details, but the key to learning this language for you is not to get lost in these details but rather concentrate on its concepts. Like any other language, this language too based on a philosophy and has certain elements that make it what it really is. C++ consists of three important parts, and they are given as follows: The standard library of C++ is capable of giving a rich combination and gamut of features such as strings and manipulating sets, etc. The standard template library or STL is capable of giving a rich set of methods manipulating data structures and other elements. The core C++ language has the capability of giving the building elements like literals, data types, and variables. 8.  C Language C is another general-purpose and imperative programming language which was developed way back in the 70s and is similar to C++ language. This language is known to be the most widely used programming platform that offers building elements for other languages like C++, Python, Java and others. These languages borrow features either directly or indirectly from it, and some of these include control structures, overall syntax, and standard libraries. This is the reason why if you want to learn programming, it is advisable that you learn C and C++ first and then move onto the others after strengthening your foundation. Some of the features that this language supports include static type system, lexical variable scope, recursion and structured programming. The following are some of the points which shall help you understand the overall design of C language: C is a procedural or imperative language The language was designed in such a way that can be easily compiled by making use of a simple compiler. The language was designed to offer a low-level access to memory. It was designed in a way that it should need minimum possible run-time support and encourages cross-platform programming. No, âExpressiveâ in programming does not mean that. It means, less code is needed to accomplish something.
code readability which means that its syntax is such that only a few lines of codes are needed to express a point or a concept.
No, readability does not mean fewer lines of codeâ fewer lines of code is called âexpressivenessâ. Readability means humans can read and understand what the code is doing, which may mean the code sounds almost like plain English. Reply

The Sprudge Coffee Guide To Colombo, Sri Lanka
Colombo is the gateway to Sri Lankaâs powder-white beaches nestled in palm groves, expansive paddy fields, and sweeping tea plantations. Days in Colombo start early, where ladies in sarees and high heels march faster to catch their daily commute. Cars and passenger buses whizz past the pedestrians before the office hours begin.
Wee hours in the morning begin with hole-in-the-walls serving piping hot cups of tea. Think of strong black tea or enticing red tea with two spoons of sugar. Often, breakfast ends with a cup of thick milk tea prepared with powdered milk or a layer of rich condensed milk. Chic lounges now pop up in every corner of the city featuring high-end artisan tea brands and exciting tea âdishesâ such as tea ice creams, shakes, and tea cocktails.
The island nation has always been one of the largest producers of tea in the world. But before tea, there was coffee. In the first half of the 19th century, the small island in the Indian Ocean was the leading exporter of coffee in the world. Sri Lanka supplied coffee across the oceans to European countries, reaching the then continental demand of six million coffee cups a day. However, plantations began to vanish with the introduction of coffee leaf rust, known locally as âDevastating Emily,â a fungal disease that decimated coffee production here.
Today, several coffee houses are trying to reignite Sri Lankaâs coffee culture with homegrown, handcrafted coffee. Some of them also import coffees from across the world, catering to different profiles of connoisseurs while others provide a collaborative space for the creatives. What follows are some of the dynamic spaces in the cityâs evolving, fascinating coffee scene. You should come to Sri Lanka for many reasonsâthe incredible natural beauty, culture, history, and foodâand now again for the delicious coffee.

Kopi Kade
Kopi Kade has been open for just four years, but in that relatively short time itâs become an international go-to spot for coffee in Colombo, and was the first Sri Lankan cafe to be featured on Sprudge, back in July of 2019. Kopi Kade occupies a popular corner on Stratford Avenue which bustles with assorted shops, boutiques, and cafes. Guarded by frangipani trees, exteriors denote a rustic, old school vibe. Walk inside and you will find a sleek, dim-lit space, carefully curated by a local architect.
Sri Lankan born Australian Nimeshan Namasivayam derived the cafeâs name from an old Sri Lankan soap opera. Namasivayam and his small team now offer single-origin pour-overs, espressos, and cold brews, bringing roasts from all corners of the world from Ethiopia to Ecuador, Indonesia and Vietnam.
Kopi Kade aspires to provide an alluring coffee experience for their dedicated audience. There are roaster sessions and brewing workshops for groups and individuals. They also offer tasting notes alongside every order, inviting customers to ask questions and know more about the cuppa they drink.
Thereâs little for the âgram here, but young crowds frequent the spot for Kopi Kadeâs French toast with a Sri Lankan twist. Namasivayam aims at recreating his northern Sri Lankan roots through the cafeâs all-day menu. Try nibbles such as the mutton pattie, which accompanies the punchy spicy notes of the Jaffna Peninsula.
Kopi Kade is located at 15/3 Stratford Ave, Colombo. Visit their official website and follow them on Instagram.
 Plus Nine Four
Hereâs another crowd favorite in Colombo:Â Plus Nine Four, the sister cafe of popular local food joint CafĂŠ Kumbuk. While the latter strives to promote healthy living combining both local and international flavors, Plus Nine Four creates a warm, welcoming coffee house experience for city dwellers. The coffee shop has outdoor seating nestled in a breezy tropical garden, set alongside a beautiful cafe compound wall adorned with a monochrome mural of plantain trees and coffee buds.
âWe wanted to create a friendly and comfortable neighborhood coffee shop experience,â says owner Shana Dandeniya. Interiors are bright and well-lit, providing a chic, modern ambiance. While thereâs a familiar Western feel, the coffee shop highlights Sri Lankan grown produce and flavors. Championing locally grown coffee, Plus Nine Four offers Soul Coffee, a brand that aspires to redefine Sri Lankaâs coffee culture while empowering the local communities.
âPlus Nine Four would not have come to life if not for its collaboration with Soul Coffee,â says Dandeniya. Young urbanites frequent the aesthetic space for their matcha lattes and salted caramel lattes. You can choose between Soul Coffeeâs medium or dark roast blends. Thereâs also a great selection of pastries, cakes, and tarts such as the homemade buttermilk cake or chocolate coffee caramel ice cream tart.
Plus Nine Four is located at 35 D. S. Fonseka Rd, Colombo. Visit their official website and follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
 Whight & Co
Whight & Co is one of the first cafes to open each day in Colombo, opening its doors at six in the morning sharp. The coffee shop sits on Marine Drive, facing the roaring Indian Ocean, and is housed inside a historic colonial building, where morning sun flickers through the windows while tall ceilings and pure-white walls create a calm, soothing atmosphere. As the day goes on, the retro space turns into a modern business hub while those who are looking for a relaxing space retreat to the lounge on the first floor. From the top, you get a clear view of the blue sea and the rickey train which runs along the old colonial-era railway tracks. This is as picturesque as coffee gets.
Apart from the go-to lattes and cappuccinos, Whight & Co are popular for their pour-overs, cold drip, and Vietnamese-style coffee made with condensed milk. Australian expat owners seem to have a cafe on nearly every corner of the earth, and so it goes with founders James and Gabrielle Whight. Alongside their team, the Whightâs brew each cup from scratch on the shopâs premises, and also roast Sri Lankan coffee in-house from their own Ruby Harvest brand, established in 2002.
Thereâs also a modest, refreshing menu for those looking for some fish and chips or an order of Australian lamb pie. Visit during evenings and grab a top floor seat for a stellar sunset view.
Whight & Co is located at Aloe Ave, 24 Marine Drive, Colombo. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
 London House of Coffee
The father and son duo behind London House of Coffee had one vision: to bring back the iconic coffee culture of the mid-1800s to modern-day Sri Lanka. With the supervision of agriculturists and coffee specialists, they now grow their organic coffee in the wet, central highlands of the island, and translate that into a coffee bar in the city.
Housed in a beautifully restored building with granite exteriors, London House of Coffee is located in Colombo 07, one of the greener parts of the city. Dark wood interiors with large lavish sofas provide a cozy vibe inside but you can also grab a spot in one of the comfy couches in their open-air balcony.
Thereâs an ever-evolving list of single origins to choose from, which expands beyond double espressos, macchiatos, hazelnut lattes, and flat whites while caramel cappuccino remains the bestseller. Beyond coffee, they also take pride in their organic smoothies, flavored tea, and an all-day menu crafted with locally-sourced ingredients. Try a bowl of penne pasta with creamy mushrooms, a slice of their Death by Chocolate, and the cafeâs in-house cheesecake.
The ever-smiling friendly staff are crowd pullers at the shop. Dressed in white shirts with long sleeves and an iconic red tie, roasters and baristas are happy to chat with you about their specialty coffee or the brand concept.
London House of Coffee is located at 2B Srimath R.G.Senanayake Mawatha, Colombo. Visit their official website and follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
 Butter Boutique
A decade ago, Rukshi Nethicumara was a home baker who sold her cakes in a weekly market in Colombo. Her brainchild Butter Boutique started out of pure love for cakes and coffee. Nethicumaraâs first encounter with Niccolo Coffee (a Melbourne-based roaster) was during one of her trips to the United States. Later, she wrote to Davide Drummond, Niccolo Coffeeâs founder. Inspired by Nethicumaraâs vision, Drummond flew to Colombo to train the staff at Butter Boutique.
The cafe first occupied a tiny space with seating for 10 people, and Nethicumara believes that it was among the very first places in all of the Sri Lankan capital to specialize in coffee and cake. âI wanted to create an indulgent experience with a variety of flavors,â says Nethicumara. One of the first shops in the city to introduce latte art, Butter Boutique soon became a major destination on the Colombo cafe scene.
Now, this cake-and-coffee shop fills a much larger, no less quaint space down Rosemead Place. âCoffee beans are air-flown from Melbourne and we source some of the best ingredients for our cakes and desserts,â says Nethicumara. A pioneer in introducing new bakery flavors to the market, Butter Boutique was also the first shop to introduce tres leches in Sri Lanka four years ago. Theyâve been out in front for a decade and continue to be among the countryâs very best coffee shops, with outstanding cakes to match.
Butter Boutique has multiple locations in Colombo. Follow them on Instagram.
 Coffee & Company
Nestled in a charming corner of Pedris Road, Coffee & Company is all about what the name suggests. Interiors here bring out a homely vibe with cutesy, Instagram-friendly decor. A large, old-school blackboard is hung above the main sofa which says âKnow Your Coffee.â A small space, itâs easy to miss this house-turned-cafe, and there arenât any cupping sessions, workshops or cutting edge coffee theories being experimented upon here. Instead what youâll find is a relaxing space, great for first dates or seeking out a reading nook with a good book.
Thereâs a small menu which offers comfort foods, including sandwiches, pasta, and a few dessert options. I like ordering an Americano here, but they also make the cityâs best hot chocolate. Youâll look cute here, your coffee will taste good, and your âgram will get a lot of hearts. Whatâs not to like?
Coffee & Company is located at 37/3 Pedris Rd, Colombo. Visit their official website and follow them on Facebook and Instagram.

24 Invaluable Skills To Learn For Free Online This Year
Hereâs an easy resolution: This stuff is all free as long as you have access to a computer, and the skills you learn will be invaluable in your career, and/or life in general.
1. Become awesome at Excel.
Chandoo is one of many gracious Excel experts who wants to share their knowledge with the world. Excel excellence is one of those skills that will improve your chances of getting a good job instantly, and it will continue to prove invaluable over the course of your career. What are you waiting for?
2. Learn how to code.
littleanimalgifs.tumblr.com
Perhaps no other skill you can learn for free online has as much potential to lead to a lucrative career. Want to build a site for your startup? Want to build the next big app? Want to get hired at a place like BuzzFeed? You should learn to code. There are a lot of places that offer free or cheap online coding tutorials, but I recommend Code Academy for their breadth and innovative program. If you want to try a more traditional route, Harvard offers its excellent Introduction to Computer Science course online for free.
3. Make a dynamic website.
You could use a pre-existing template or blogging service, or you could learn Ruby on Rails and probably change your life forever. Hereâs an extremely helpful long list of free Ruby learning tools that includes everything from Rails for Zombies to Learn Ruby The Hard Way. Go! Ruby! Some basic programming experience, like one of the courses above, might be helpful (but not necessarily required if youâre patient with yourself).
4. Learn to make a mobile game.
If youâre not interested in coding anything other than fun game apps, you could trythis course from the University of Reading. It promises to teach you how to build a game in Java, even if you donât have programming experience! If you want to make a truly great game, you might want to read/listen up on Game Theory first.
5. Start reading faster.
Spreeder is a free online program that will improve your reading skill and comprehension no matter how old you are. With enough practice, you could learn to double, triple, or even quadruple the speed at which you read passages currently, which is basically like adding years to your life.
6. Learn a language!
With Duolingo, you can learn Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, or English (from any of the above or more). Thereâs a mobile app and a website, and the extensive courses are completely free.
Full disclosure: BuzzFeed and other websites are in a partnership with DuoLingo, but they did not pay or ask for this placement.
7. Pickle your own vegetables.
Tired of your farmerâs market haul going bad before you use it all? Or do you just love tangy pickled veggies? You too can pickle like a pro thanks to SkillShare and Travis Grillo.
8. Improve your public speaking skills.
You can take the University of Washingtonâs Intro to Public Speaking for free online. Once you learn a few tricks of the trade, youâll be able to go into situations like being asked to present at a company meeting or giving a presentation in class without nearly as much fear and loathing.
9. Get a basic handle of statistics.
UC Berkeley put a stats intro class on iTunes. Once you know how to understand the numbers yourself, youâll never read a biased ânewsâ article the same way again â 100% of authors of this post agree!
10. Understand basic psychology.
Knowing the basics of psych will bring context to your understanding of yourself, the dynamics of your family and friendships, whatâs really going on with your coworkers, and the woes and wonders of society in general. Yale University has its Intro to Psychology lectures online for free.
11. Make your own music.
Step one: Learn how to play guitar: Justin Guitar is a fine and free place to start learning chords and the basic skills youâll need to be able to play guitar â from there, itâs up to you, but once you know the basics, just looking up tabs for your favorite songs and learning them on your own is how many young guitar players get their start (plus itâs an excellent party trick).
Step two: A delightful free voice lesson from Berklee College Of Music.
Step three: Have you always thought you had an inner TSwift? Berklee College of Music offers an Introduction to Songwriting course completely for free online. The course is six weeks long, and by the end of the lesson youâll have at least one completed song.
Step four: Lifehackerâs basics of music production will help you put it all together once you have the skills down! Youâll be recording your own music, ready to share with your valentine or the entire world, in no time!
12. Learn to negotiate.
Let Stanfordâs Stan Christensen explain how to negotiate in business and your personal life, managing relationships for your personal gain and not letting yourself be steamrolled. There are a lot of football metaphors and itâs great.
13. Stop hating math.
If you struggled with math throughout school and now have trouble applying it in real-world situations when it crops up, try Saylor.orgâs Real World Mathcourse. It will reteach you basic math skills as they apply IRL. Very helpful!
14. Start drawing!
All kids draw â so why do we become so afraid of it as adults? Everyone should feel comfortable with a sketchbook and pencil, and sketching is a wonderful way to express your creativity. DrawSpace is a great place to start. (I also highly recommend the book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain if you can drop a few dollars for a used copy.)
15. Make your own animated GIF.
BuzzFeedâs own Katie Notopoulos has a great, simple guide to making an animated GIF without Photoshop. This is all you need to be the king or queen of Tumblr or your favorite email chains.
16. Appreciate jazz.
reddit.com
Have you never really âgottenâ jazz? If you want to be able to participate in conversations at fancy parties and/or just add some context to your appreciation of all music, try this free online course from UT Austin.
17. Write well.
Macalester Collegeâs lecture series is excellent. If youâre more interested in journalism, try Wikiversityâs course selection.
18. Get better at using Photoshop.
Another invaluable skill that will get you places in your career, learning Photoshop can be as fun as watching the hilarious videos on You Suck At Photoshop or as serious as this extensive Udemy training course (focused on photo retouching).
19. Take decent pictures.
Lifehackerâs basics of photography might be a good place to start. Learn how your camera works, the basic of composition, and editing images in post-production. If you finish that and youâre not sure what to do next, hereâs a short course on displaying and sharing your digital photographs.
20. Learn to knit.
Instructables has a great course by a woman who is herself an online-taught knitter. Youâll be making baby hats and cute scarves before this winterâs over!
21. Get started with investing in stocks.
If you are lucky enough to have a regular income, you should start learning about savings and investment now. Investopedia has a ton of online resources, including this free stocks basics course. Invest away!
22. Clean your house in a short amount of time.
Unf$#k Your Habitat has a great emergency cleaning guide for when your mother-in-law springs a surprise visit on you. While youâre over there, the entire blog is good for getting organized and clean in the long term, not just in âemergencies.â Youâll be happier for it.
23. Start practicing yoga.
Most cities have free community classes (try just searching Google or inquiring at your local yoga studio), or if youâre more comfortable trying yoga at home, YogaGlohas a great 15-day trial and Yome is a compendium of 100% free yoga videos. If youâre already familiar with basic yoga positions but you need an easy way to practice at home, I recommend YogaTailorâs free trial as well.
24. Tie your shoelaces more efficiently.
Itâs simple and just imagine the minutes of your life youâll save!

Ranking Every SPN Season Premiere
15) 11.01 Out of the Darkness, Into the Fire. For an otherwise strong season, s11 sure started and ended in D tier. Not only is there a baffling amount of screen time spent on Casâs weird and uninteresting rage spell, Crowleyâs sexcapades, and too many one-episode characters, but the whole thing is sewn together with uneven flashbacks. The core concept itself is off: Darkness-as-rage-zombie-infection feels totally out of place in the rest of the season, and any personal fallout from 10.23 is mostly brushed aside. The only thing I like about 11.01 is Samâs determination to find a cure and save everyone, and the mention of the cage.
14) 10.01 Black. Just because I do quite like demon!Deanâs apathy doesnât mean itâs gripping television: heâs much better in 10.02 and 10.03, and most of 10.01 is spent on Crowleyâs overdramatic griping. Cole is objectively very silly, but, look, Iâm only flesh: Sam bloodied and in a sling and tied to a chair is good content, and rescues this one from D tier.Â
13) 15.01 Back and to the Future. Just like 11.01, 15.01 has to brush past Deanâs willingness to execute a family member in the previous episode, and it introduces a pretty weak zombies plot. However, it gets major points for Samâs bullet wound visions, and is generally much better staged than 11.01. Â
12) 6.01 Exile on Main St. A genuinely interesting episode for Dean--both his domestic montage and being faced with Samuel are fresh takes on his relationship with family. Soulless is great, but isnât quite hitting his stride; 6.01 lays groundwork but hasnât yet built into s6â˛s greatest strengths.Â
11) 3.01 The Magnificent Seven. This oneâs kinda campy, but there is some legitimately horrifying imagery, like the guy forced to drink drain cleaner. The deadly sins demons are underwhelming on the whole, but Ruby shows up in fine form, and Samâs anger with Deanâs willingness to throw his life away establishes a great tone for s3.Â
10) 8.01 We Need to Talk About Kevin. Kevin is badass, Amelia is amazingly, unapologetically polarizing, Dean is raw, and I donât really care about Benny. Sam is in a healthier spot right here than weâll see him for a long, long time, which tees up his anti-recovery arc quite nicely.Â
9) 1.01 Pilot. Itâs a solid introduction. Sam and Deanâs chemistry is potent and undeniable from the get-go. The way they work together so well, layered on top of so much conflict both spoken and unspoken, the things they want and the things they deny wanting--their first time interacting as adults out from under their fatherâs influence. Itâs good!
8) 12.01 Keep Calm and Carry On. Look, I pretend to have complex opinions, but actually I am very, very simple: I just want to watch Sam tied to a chair and tortured. This is the best BMoL episode of the season by a long shot. On top of that, Maryâs introduction forces the uncomfortable and fascinating realization that sheâs not going to fit quietly into Deanâs expectations. That final scene of Sam hurt and imprisoned without hope is gorgeous and memorable. 12.01 promised a lot for s12, and itâs a shame that most of it didnât get followthrough.
7) 14.01 Stranger in a Strange Land. These next four are difficult to arrange, because theyâre all so different. This episode has pretty much the only even vaguely interesting material AU!Michael gets all season. Far more importantly, Sam has the weight of the world on his shoulders, and itâs a great look. He has a beard, and heâs looking after Nick (!!), and heâs leading a group of hunters, and he declares that Hell itself better stand the fuck down. Sam for King of Hell 2k18. Iconic.Â
6) 2.01 In My Time of Dying. Johnâs deal, and his directive for Dean to save Sam or kill him, is a major turning point that colors everything for years. The human intimacy of the small-scale family drama, unfolding with no magic besides a terrible soul deal to rely upon, feels personal and real. Plus, Sam and Dean communicate via ouija board.
5) 5.01 Sympathy for the Devil. Meg and Zachariah are both in fine form. The apocalyptic set pieces are teed up and ready to be set loose. Sam jumps on the bandwagon of his own castigation, and it aches. Luciferâs introduction is quiet, and chilling, and note-perfect.
4) 13.01 Lost and Found. Itâs hard to significantly change the landscape of a 13-year-old show, and for the better, but 13.01 does just that. Jack is a breath of fresh air. His dynamics with Sam and Dean are complex and heartbreaking--he asks after his father, Sam locks himself in a cell with him. Deanâs blank absolutism mixes uneasily with Samâs relentless determination and Jackâs innocence. Itâs a wonderful new twist on an old formula.
3) 4.01 Lazarus Rising. Dean crawls out of his own grave, Samâs with Ruby, Cas blows out windows and burns out eyes. 4.01 throws the mythological doors wide open with the introduction of angels, and ratchets the season up to an apocalyptic scale: itâs awesome.Â
2) 9.01 I Think Iâm Gonna Like It Here. I am always and forever intrigued by Samâs Mind Forests. Dean does something unforgivably horrible to Sam, and in doing so, opens the door to a fascinating arc, wherein his choices here and his treatment of Sam are deconstructed and then reconstructed and then deconstructed again. Iâll never get tired of season 9, by which I mean Iâll never get tired of the fallout from the BOLD choice that 9.01 made to put this conflict front and center.Â
1) 7.01 Meet the New Boss. If you thought I wasnât going to put Hallucifer first, you must be extremely new here. Samâs psychological undoing is chilling and deeply claustrophobic and possibly my favorite thing the show has ever done. On top of that, we have Godstielâs terrifying purges, Sam and Dean summoning Death in someoneâs living room, and even a taste of cosmic horror in LeviaCas. I would tell you how many times Iâve watched 7.01-7.02, but Iâve wholly lost count.Â

Ranking Every SPN Midseason Finale

15) 10.09 The Things We Left Behind. Claireâs reintroduction isnât as bad as some of her later appearances, mostly because sheâs still hostile towards Cas and the Winchesters, but itâs still not great. Thereâs Rowena and Crowley drama I donât care about, and Dean kills a bunch of people, which is kinda fun, but would be more interesting if it had any consequences.
14) 14.09 The Spear. Michaelâs monsters plan is pretty dumb. Iâm still not clear on why Michael stopped possessing Dean at any point. Michael and Jack have a good conversation, and I suppose an assassination is the only viable plan for the Winchesters to go for, but most of this episode is just a series of âwhyâ moments one after another.
13) 1.10 Asylum. This is a perfectly acceptable MOTW episode, and a ghost-addled Sam yelling at and punching Dean is fun, but itâs simply not up to snuff with the kind of plot or character development that the other midseason finales put on the table.
12) 13.09 The Bad Place. I really like Kaia and Jack here. The moment with the angels pounding on the ground to break the wards is genuinely pretty cool. Â The stakes get upped with the reveal that Maryâs being tortured in Apocaland, and Dean reacts by threatening Kaia at gunpoint, nice. Itâs not a bad episode, and itâs not incredible either.
11) 12.08 LOTUS. Is this episode silly? Oh yes. Am I thoroughly entertained when watching it? Resoundingly yes. Every dumb terrible campy detail--like Lucifer turning crosses upside downâcombined with the sheer balls-to-the-wall wtf-ery of the President being possessed, and the interspersed moments of genuine dramaâas when Sam banishes Luciferâcreates a combination that I canât help but enjoy. I also like the likely somewhat unintentional implications as to how the political landscape of the SPN world was changed by the sheer volume of apocalyptic events itâs experienced. Seems fair to conclude that God is angry.
10) 8.09 Citizen Fang. Dean sends Sam after Amelia with a fake text, as their s8 conflict comes to a head. This is far from the shadiest thing Deanâs ever done, but itâs so fascinatingly, unapologetically a Relationship Red Flag that I really enjoy it. Plus, I find Samâs conflict with Benny pretty interesting here. Â
9) 6.11 Appointment in Samara. Deanâs deal with Death is a cool concept, and itâs set up well, but it falls a bit flat. Dean fails the test in a way thatâs very predictable, and that has no consequences, because Death likes Sam enough to retrieve him anyway. The better part of this episode is Soullessâ desperate, last ditch attempt to save his life at the cost of Bobbyâsâhe screams and begs as his soul is returned, and I love the moral dilemma here.
8) 9.09 Holy Terror. Kevin!! His death was viscerally shocking and heartbreaking. This episode is consigned to mid B tier because of the angel drama I donât care about, and because I am still torn on if I really like Kevinâs death thematically speaking. For one thing, I miss him to this dayâI miss having a cynical, informed perspective on the Winchesters in the room. For another, it muddies the waters of Deanâs crime in having Gadreel possess Sam, in ways that are sometimes interesting but sometimes miss the point.
7) 15.08 Our Father, Who Arenât in Heaven. *chanting* New Cage canon! New Cage canon! Jake Abel steals the show with his insane chemistry with himself, and makes the s15 conflict much more interesting just by existing. I love how goddamn uncomfortable Sam is this entire episode, I love Adam and Michaelâs weird compelling dynamic, I love Deanâs awkwardness, and I love the four of them all together. I just want them to sit in a room and talk foreeeever.
6) 7.10 Deathâs Door. I donât even like Bobby that much, but even I have to admit that this is a great emotional episode. Sam and Dean deal with their grief, and itâs done well enough to make me grieve for Bobby too.
5) 2.09 Croatoan. Good episode is good. Itâs a zombie episode with a real sense of fear and isolationâand then Sam gets infected. Deanâs violent refusal to kill Sam, the subsequent reveal that Sam is somehow immune, and then a demon revealing that this town died just for an experiment on Sam? Creepy and emotional and intriguing!
4) 4.10 Heaven and Hell. Demon and angel battle! Some very fun additions to what we know about the angels and their motivations: Annaâs commitment to fleeing and defying Heaven, coupled with what appears to be Ruby doing the same with Hell, is cool. I also love how Sam ends up successfully playing both sides off each other. Plus, it ends with Deanâs emotional reveal about his time in Hell.
3) 3.08 A Very Supernatural Christmas. Iconic. Three separate things to love: fantastic pre-series content, including amulet backstory and the reveal of little Sam finding out about monsters; a truly wonderful MOTW that involves Christmas tree stabbing and fingernail pulling; and the looming emotional juggernaut of  a final celebration before Deanâs deal comes due. Â
2) 5.10 Abandon All Hope. Crowleyâs delightful introduction as a smarmy survivalist, Ellen and Joâs tearjerking deaths, Cas captive and mouthing off to both Lucifer and Meg, Deanâs unsuccessful shot, and of course Sam and Luciferâs first meeting in person. Action packed and spooky and thrilling and simply beautifully executed.
1) 11.09 O Brother Where Art Thou? In Hell, is where, and I couldnât be happier!! Luciferâs reintroduction coupled with Samâs distress and brittle scared determination is atmospheric and terrifying. Rowenaâs betrayal and Amaraâs pitch to Dean are compelling. Most importantly, though, I had to wait a MONTH for 11.10 with Samâs CRYING FACE in my head: best worst cliffhanger of the series by miles and miles. Bury me in this episode.

Ranking Every SPN Midseason Premiere
15) 10.10 The Hunter Games. Wow, this one is real bad. Has not one, not two, but three subplots I either donât care about or actively despise: Claire bonding with Cas (uh, heâs wearing her dadâs corpse), Rowenaâs petty infighting with Crowley (bleh why), and Metatron smugly egging on Deanâs violence (why would he care?). This is deep in the slog of s10 episodes that go nowhere fast.
14) 13.10 Wayward Sisters. Is it clear yet that I really donât like Claire episodes? Sam and Dean roasting lizards is the only real moment of fun here. I liked Kaia, so I hated that she gets used as Claireâs insta-friend/retconned love interest in order to immediately fridge her for the backdoor pilot⌠so that Claire, who was orphaned young, can understand loss, I guess? Pointless and unimaginative. I also resent the deeply, deeply directionless magic spear/Alt!Kaia subplot that eats up, like, four other episodes in s14-15 and accomplishes exactly nothing.
13) 3.09 Malleus Maleficarum. I like this episode for the insight we get into Rubyâs backstory, and the frank conversation that she and Dean have about demons and his impending Hell tour. But other than that, there isnât too much to recommend it.
12) 8.10 Torn and Frayed. The next several episodes are all good, and are difficult to sort. In 8.10, Sam and Dean choose each other over Amelia and Benny, in all-or-none ultimatums. I truly enjoy how miserable they both seem to find themselves about this, about how their relationship has grown more and more isolating when tbh it neednât be. Naomiâs control of Cas in this episode fleshes out the chilling implications we got in The Rapture: Heaven is best when its dark AF.
11) 6.12 Like A Virgin. Monsters, dragons, and Eve: the reveal of Purgatory kicks off a brand new chapter of the showâs mythology. But more importantly, Sam is fully back now! Watching him navigate this brave new world while no one will tell him anything is fascinating and more than a little sad.
10) 4.11 Family Remains. Actually frightening! I like it when the show does the ~it was just humans~ twist. And this episode has great commentary on Deanâs emotional state after his reveal about Hell last time. Itâs a good MOTW.
9) 15.10 Nihilism. Deanâs bar mindscape. Itâs no Sam mindscape, but itâs definitely the most interesting thing thatâs been done with Dean and possession. Itâs kinda fascinating that Deanâs uncomplicated happy place exists in an underdog Americana limbo without either Cas or Sam. Also gives us, at last, a good take on Alt!Michaelâs motivationsâheâs hunting down God. Loses points because the idea of managing to lock Michael in Deanâs mind for any length of time is still extremely unlikely.
8) 1.11 Scarecrow. Megâs iconic introduction, Dean and Samâs first breakup; emotional clashing over Winchester family dynamics: whatâs not to love?
7) 12.09 First Blood. Weâve got Sam and Dean coping with prison very differently, then using their deaths to escape, and an action sequence through the woods: itâs just real fun. Cas breaks their deal with Billie, which ends up having, uh, no consequences whatsoever. Itâs a strong kickoff to a regrettably weak second half of s12.
6) 7.11 Adventures in Babysitting. A quiet, emotional breath after Bobbyâs death: Sam and Dean are deep, deep in terrible misery. The potent psychological suffering of season 7 is a delight, and 7.11 doesnât shy away from it. Plus, itâs got Sam volunteering to get bit in the neck, and a rare example of a Plucky Teen (tm) done right.
5) 15.09 The Trap. This is just a worse 11.10. But 11.10 is amazing, so thatâs still a compliment: Chuck tries both torture and the promise of various bleak futures to get Sam to cave. Even if the various futures arenât staged that well, there is so much stuff here thatâs ripe for analysis: especially on the broader stage of s15, this episode is plain interesting.
4) 5.11 Sam, Interrupted. Sam and Dean in a psych ward! Theyâre dealing with the extreme stress and grief of season 5, and theyâre doing it badlyâthis episode provides a great way for their respective coping mechanisms to be forcefully stripped away. In a delightful microcosm of the show, Sam confesses his anger and gets consequently wrestled down and tied down to a cot.
3) 2.10 Hunted. Gordon Walker, whose old-fashioned absolutism is only matched by his competence, is one of the most memorable early seasons antagonists, and for good reason. We also get Ava, the queen of season 2, who has taken it upon herself to warn Sam and save his life. Then Sam and Dean using code words to disarm Gordonâs trap, and the fallout from Johnâs final words: quality television.
2) 9.10 Road Trip. Oh my god, what a horror show. This is an exemplary episode. Just incredible. Kinda unfair that it has to compete with 11.10, because it would take the gold by a mile in most other matchups. Itâs got a fascinating character study of Gadreel, which also serves to inject interest into the s9 angel conflict; itâs the violent, hypocritical lengths to which Dean is willing to go; itâs got needles in Samâs brain and a nauseating, horrific picture of possession; itâs got That Bridge Scene. The payoff for 9.01 begins to come due, in spades.
1) 11.10 Devil in the Details. Season 11 gets two D-tier ranks and two S-tier ranks; this is the duality of man. Do I even have to explain why I love 11.10 so much? Itâs Sam and Lucifer in a room in Hell for an entire episode, nuff said. It gets better with every rewatchâthere are so many great tiny moments, so much history. Luciferâs combination salespitch/dressing-down is threatening and fascinating and mostly accurate; Samâs rigid terror and courage and heartbreak and anger and resignation and determination are intoxicating. I want to watch them talk in a room forever.
