Pretty much like with Holy and Edith,Voodoo's design didn't change that much. I slightly changed her root hair to twisted locks, the necklaces are now two and I stylized the skulls.

Also colors are pretty much the same.

I thought abt giving her a mask but then I remembered that she is different in her own way like Ly and Tily so giving her a mask or hat would ruin that idea.

This piece sure took me a while to complete, but I love every part of it!

I wanted to redesign their outfits a bit, make them less combat-like, and more ornamental. I like to imagine this is happening outside of the house during some festivity, where Zag and Than share an Ambrosia in privacy, and Than hands out Mort to Zag.

I spent a lot of time figuring out the plants and the trees and the overall mood. I wanted it to be dark, as it is in the gardens there, with an overall purple hue.

(alright! It's time to show the beta designs [and old lore] of the weapons, dating back to march of last year! kudos to @altariantowers for getting me into this in the first place.

The first one to be designed was actually Doc! Although he had a different name back then! [being Mr. Smiler, then Marmalade, then Doctor Argos, I changed it because it sounded too cute for him] he was originally some sort of hallucination that failed smile advocates would see that became real, kinda like a tulpa. Yes, Doctor is technically just his nickname, his actual name's Argos.

Well, he got redesigned quite quickly actually! And after that, the rest of the weapons got their designs

yea, I originally had a completely differently character for Air! I had planned for Air to be some sort of wind spirit. there wasn't much to them otherwise... Nemesis never really changed besides her colouration

Oblivion was originally meant to be the Smiler's predecessor who disappeared out of nowhere, he probably got disposed of by Smiler but who knows :3. The rest didn't have much lore otherwise

this is before the rest got their names lol, I then changed them again! this time I decided to do Galactica this time because space is more interesting in my head lol

This is when more redesigns came to be! Wickerman was originally meant to be more scary and way less comforting, kinda like some old folktale creature that'd come for naughty children lmao

I was switching between the straight jacket and the lab coat at this time lmao

There was also a beta minister! She was meant to be the same species as Nemesis, but she was scrapped :[ also, feat mort from @askthemort !

Schwarz was aged down, and consequently got redesigned, I was going back and forth with him lol. Theres also another scrapped character with Ms. Laika! She was originally the front of the M.O.J., being a sweet mascot meant to lure people in aroace flag pallete...

And then Galactica got a new character! This was Eve, she was originally called PILOT, this design got scrapped because she looked like Skittie from Artifisouls lMAO

Then Doc finally, finally lost his legs, he was originally more mean, but I decided to make him less of an asshole, It wouldn't make much sense for him to be a mean sort of person.

and yea, that's all the beta designs! Most of the art of the old designs are kinda lost due to my old laptop breaking sooo :p

Guess who redesigned their Candle Cove oc because their design was extremely historically inaccurate and also had a corny ahh name💔

Nurse Sasha / Surgeon Sasha

The clothes is still historically inaccurate but atleast there's a bit ofimprovement + giving her things pirate surgeons would actually wear (-The apron that she designed and sewed for herself what the flip Sasha, oh and the hat too.)

A little explanation/lore for the people and crew mentioned in her design backstory

Who is Daniela Ivanov?

-My other Candle Cove oc who is apart of the Candle Cove production team and a character that voice acts Sasha AND designed Sasha.

Who is the father?

-I don't have any ideas for his name but i want to keep it mysterious since he didn't really have THAT much of an important role to the team, we'll just call him by Daniela's Father.

Who is the Blistering Barnacles crew?

-1. Ignore the corny ahh name, i took it from The Adventures Of Tintin (a reference to a saying Captain Haddock often says). 2. It is a whole made up crew that i made, and also the same crew that my other oc Roter is apart of. Sasha is the ship medical officer/nurse/surgeon of the ship.

A few small information about Sasha (i am unfortunately absolute garbage at writing so bear with me)

Personality :

Honestly i took a bit of inspiration from her old design inspiration (the reaper nurse from Dark Deception) and basically she acts all bubbly, innocent, friendly and inviting at first, but then when you realize her true intentions she's quite the spooky one to be around. She has a lot of surgeon tools that she uses as weapons (often). She still acts all bubbly and friendly despite her intentions, she's a bit sick and twisted in the head (though not as bad as Dr. Mort.). WILL try to convince you to be her friend + her office is creepy as heck, it's just an unsettling place to be in.

When compared to the rest of the crew she seems like the only one here that will invite you with open arms, the others are quite mean and aggressive. But her intentions are more sick and twisted compared to her whole crew that sometimes her crew is a bit concerned for her. They have mixed feelings about going into her office to get treatment sometimes, they all have seen her real face ONCE and never wants to again.

Relationships :

Roter : her closest friend, the only friend that has seen her real face and does not judge her or be scared of her. In fact, Sasha actually hangs out with Roter often while not wearing her paper mask.

The rest of the crew : Neutral, she acts friendly to them. Sometimes she does nice things for them like make them scarfs, but that's all honestly. (Though this may change as i make more OCs to give you guys a better image of the crew, and what i mean by that is describing her relationships with every single crew member more specifically.)

Hobbies :

-She can sew and knit well. Infact, the apron that she wears is made by herself. She really liked how it turned out despite how maybe odd it looks to the others (a little reference to how it literally looks historically inaccurate) but no one says anything. She also has A LOT of buttons (she still does till today) and those are the same buttons that she used for her apron as an extra detail.

-Before she became a nurse, she REALLY wanted to become a designer AND start her own small business making clothes for the people of Candle Cove. Though that has not happened yet.

-She likes making everything in her office reaaal organized.

Other :

She learned to be multilingual due to the majority of her crew having language barriers that sometimes they mix in their own words that she couldn't understand. Eventually the first 3 languages she learned were Russian, English, and German (in that specific order)

Her clothes when she is not inside her office/ship has a lot of storage because she likes carrying a lot of medical related stuff with her (and likes collecting shells on the way)

Honestly that's all i have to say for now. I will post a full body reference for Roter soon (my favorite candle cove daughter🥲) and Daniela aswell. Let me know your thoughts or anything i should improve or add onto her lore or personality! (I take constructive criticism + feedbacks!)

Redesigning the villains for my Wish rewrite and I thought of something cool

Why does Amaya cover her ears?? In the concept art it’s nowhere to be found or that’s what I think

Spoilers for my rewrite, she becomes the plot twist villain who betrays asha, Aster, and her friends to stop King Magnifico 

I’m curious what’s more scarier, a wife losing her husband or her husband losing his wife? (Please reply I’m curious)

I’m gonna write as short and simple as much possible cause I don’t like writing very complex stories (easily gets distracted and lost). I don’t have names for some characters, so get for a bunch of nicknames

King Magnifico

So for King Magnifico, it’ll be a mix of Scar and Tai Long

What’s upon a time, there was a long line of rulers of Rosas

A King Alcohol and Queen Morte, has two sons, prince Magnifico and Prince Naïve who was just barely born, when Queen Morte died of childbirth. King alcohol became an alcoholic sad and depressed about Queens passing.

Prince Magnifico became greatly skilled with magic and leadership thanks to their Royal Wizard while Prince Naïve grew fair and kind, but he is not as strong as Magnifico is.

King Alcohol dying wish was for the youngest son to be the next king. Magnifico questions about this, King Alcohol said that their royal wizard said in context “you’re going to become evil if you don’t fix your bad habit, so it’s best for prince naïve to be king.”(which not true and what the royal wizard was warning about King Alcohol wish and if he doesn’t fix his bad attitude and habit, prince magnifico will become evil, he got fired for his poor guy)

And so Prince magnifico made a plan to destroy the kingdom his father and brother and with his power, he can fix it all as a “hero“. Until, he heard that Prince naïve is going to be wed with princess Amaya from a neighboring kingdom….

Queen Amaya

Once upon a time there was a prince and an peasant woman who is an alchemist was so deeply in love with each other. That prince’s daddy did not like this, because he was a sexist, believing that smart women are witches.

So the prince’s daddy send, the poor alchemist to the dungeons so that the alchemist doesn’t “hurt or kill the prince”

The prince asked his daddy about his girlfriend’s whereabouts, and the daddy said “that witch dumped you because she is dangerous and wanted to hurt you, you cannot trust them witches”

And the prince is so gullible that he believed this, and he has set to marrying a princess from a neighboring kingdom

One year later, Miss alchemist escape from her prisonment and goes “ yay I’m free what’s today’s news?” She later finds out the king jerk dumped her for another girl, and is having a party for their newborn baby girl named Amaya, and everyone was invited

And, of course, Miss alchemist did not like this furious she came to the party, uninvited and cursed their daughter to be a dragon and unfertile

King jerk:“it’s broken by true love, right?”

Miss alchemist: “ha ha, no”

King jerk fears this and ask his royal advisors what to do. The Royal advisors lied to the king of a made up story,that there was a similar scenario, where a witch curse a princess is to be ugly forever until she was married to someone by true love, and then that’s when she became the most beautiful woman in that land. And, of course, King jerk as gullible as he can be believes this,

The royal advisors did find a magical crystal that could harness princess Amaya‘s dragon curse, and use it as a necklace. but as shown in the sketches below, that it kind of works and has to cover up her dragon features

How they met

When Prince magnifico heard about this, he thought part of his evil plan to make princess Amaya fall in love with him and make her his queen. But when that happened Amaya and magnifico actually fell in love in first sigh, no love spell or potion needed.

They did hang out for a little bit before princess Amaya‘s marriage and prince magnifico ask her to be part of his plan.

Princess Amaya wants nothing of this and prince magnifico warns her about the peoples opinion when they find out who she really

princess Amaya shock thinking how the heck does this man knew about this and why he not disgusted or scared at all? Magnifico later on explains that he recognized the jemthat princess Amaya was wearing that it could hold curses

Amaya reveals what her curse to magnifico and he doesn’t care at all, because he’s that in love with her. Princess Amaya refuse to be part of the evil plan, and marries to prince naïve, until when she realized that the curse was not broken. She decides “you know what I like magnifico and he likes me why not”

And so, when magnifico steals a star from the sky, to make him powerful, he created plagues around the kingdom feminine, darkness, and he dragged destroying their land, which is Amaya that causes the death of Prince naïve and king alcohol. magnifico and Amaya became the next rulers after “saving roses” with magnifico power of wishes

Swing Macabre day 11

(English readers, you know where it is, just scroll down after the pciture)

Urgh, je ne pensais pas que ce serais aussi dur de redesigner la Jeune Fille.

Bon, voilà ou en est ma réflexion à ce sujet.

Je vois à peu près trois orientations pour le personnage.

1 : La robe moderne pseudo médiévale.

Une espèce de référence aux danses macabres et l’inspiration de François qui est aussi médiévale (ou pseudo en tout cas). En gros, de longues jupes, un bustier plutôt étroit, des manches plus ou moins longues et serrée ou à poignets larges.

2 : La robe ou les vêtements de deuils.

Du noir, du noir et encore du noir, pour rester dans le coté monochrome. Couplé avec le thème, ça peut vite virer au goth à la Tim Burton, mais la Jeune Fille m’a aimablement informée qu’elle n’avait pas la silhouette pour les robes de Morticia ou Elvira, donc j’ai intérêt à ne pas aller trop du coté gothique de la Force.

3 : Aller à fond dans le délire Swing et regarder ce qui se fait coté fashion.

Éventuellement 4 ?

Et pourquoi pas juste une robe blanche, à coupe simple, fluide et ample, qui évoquerait les linceuls que portent certains des squelettes et surtout la Dame Blanche ?

Ca pourrait être une indice sur le fait que la Jeune Fille est déprimée, pense à la mort et se sent plus proche des mort que des vivants ?

Bon, en attendant que j’ai conceptualisé tout ça sur papier (c’était plus facile d’habiller François, Sacré Bonsoir !) voici la première fournée : Les robes et tenues pseudo-médiévales.

Vous noterez que j’en profite aussi pour chercher son visage et ses cheveux. Tant qu’à faire.

Swing Macabre day 11

Urgh, I didn’t think it would be that hard to redesign the Maiden.

So, here is where I am right now.

I can see three directions for the character.

1 : The modern pseudo medieval dress.

Some kind of nod to the dance macabre and François’ inspiration, also medieval (more or less at least). So, longs skirts, tight bustier, more or less longs sleeves, skintight or with wide cuff.

2: The mourning dress or clothes.

Black, black and more black, to stay in the monochromatic theme. With the theme of the story, it can quickly go goth a-la-Burton, but the Maiden informed me kindly she doesn’t have the silhouette for Morticia or Elvira’s dresses, so I must try and not overdo the gothic side of the Force.

3 : Go boldly into the Swing theme and see what is going on fashion wise on this scene.

Possibly  4 ?

And why not a white wide simple fluid dress, which could look like the shroud some of the skeletons are wearing, especially the White Lady?

It could be a nod to the fact that the Maiden is depressed, thinking of death and feel closer to the dead than of the living?

Well, while I’m putting all that on paper (it was easier to dress François, holy heck!) here is the first part: The pseudo medieval dresses and outfits!

And while I’m at it, I’m searching for her face and hairstyles.

that's a very broad question given that you didn't specify which incarnation of the jsa but i'll go with a random assortment of some of my favorite members from all over :)

alan scott

there's just no beating paul reinman as far as i'm concerned! a couple designs have come close (paul smith in the golden age 1993 and eduardo barreto in all-american comics 1999 as well as mikel janin's current work on justice society of america 2022 all come to mind) but mr reinman had it all figured out all the way back in comic cavalcade 1942. the ideal alan is old hollywood handsome and just about the biggest guy in the room at all times but with rounded edges too, the kinda physique born out of physical work during his years on the railroad and later maintained by the starheart. james robinson certainly isn't wrong when he says "no one else's that tall" in tga '93 #2!

jay garrick

in contrast to alan, jay's gotta be all thin and lanky (and relatively short although he doesn't quite look it) and john byrne's the man for the job through his jsa arc in wonder woman 1987 #130-133. diego olortegui's work on jay garrick: the flash 2023 is also entirely ideal to me -- that's the jay i know and love!

the fantastic tarantula costume from all-star squadron is already a redesign of his original 1940s costume (which was a bit too kirby-era sandman for everybody's taste) but the gunfighter-esque look paul smith gave him in the golden age 1993 is beyond anything. so good it's unreal.

peter snejbjerg's hourman. perfection. something wildly deeply charming to me about the clean lines and the manic energy of his three-issue appearance in starman 1994 #77-79, perfectly in character for my ol' pal rexy. there's plenty of great hourmen out there, this one's mine :)

it's not even worth pretending anyone has ever topped emil gershwin's work on starman or ever will. my god, it's extraordinary. it's something else entirely. emil's brief run on adventure comics 1938 was utter perfection, and that's saying something considering he followed jack burnley whose work on ted was already gorgeous!

johnny quick

mort meskin's sense of motion, his lithe lean playful impossibly dynamic johnny quick... that's the stuff of legends. it doesn't get better than meskin on more fun comics 1936, and the classics are classics for a reason.

Apologies for the late posts, A LOT happened like Arleen Sorkin's passing and Kamen Rider Geats ending. So I needed to take a break, but I am back. SPOILERS if you havent seen episode 8 obviously.

We start things off with the captured villains letting out of their prison. We got Silver Banshee, Roundhouse, Heatwave, Livewire, and then eventually we seen Ivo/Parasite and Mist who luckily escaped and is trying to get his friend and sister back. I talked more about in their respective episodes so if you want to read up more about them click on their names.

Task Force X/Suicide Squad is known for exploding the heads of their prisoners teammates if they fuck up a mission (you might have seen it in the live action movies, animated movies, or even read the comics) and MAwS solution to not have it be so gory is to use shock collars.

Cut to Clark who developed super hearing and has not slept for a few days and is on caffeine so he can help the people of Metropolis. The idea of Superman 24/7 has been thrown around in the comics for a while usually saying no Clark deserves a break. He needs to be Clark and not Superman when he can get the chance. If you want to check out the comics that does it I recommend reading Superman #296 to 299 (1979), Who Took the Super out of Superman by writers,Cary Bates, Elliot S. Maggins, penciler, Curt Swan, inker, Bob Oskner, colorist, Carl Gafford, and letterer Ben Oda.

We see in the hologram projector/data sphere thing that Lois took from the League of Lois Lane's displaying Overman wrecking the city. I talked more about him here

We then see Perry asking Lois to help out with Vicki Vale who is asked to be a guest writer on the Daily Planet, we later see in the ep that she's got ulterior motives for this. I talked a bit about her here. In the comics Vicki is usually a journalist for the Gotham Gazette and is sometimes in a relationship with Bruce Wayne. Her comic counterpart is usually very ethical when it comes to journalism much like Lois Lane, but here in MAwS, she's very conniving. Never meet your heroes sometimes I guess, huh MAwS Lois?

Lois talks about the things Vicki wrote for the Gazette and name drops Queen Industries. If you know your DC universe, that is the last name of Oliver Queen aka Green Arrow.

Oliver Queen and Roy Harper aka Speedy, make their first appearance in More Fun Comics #73 (1941) co-created by Mort Weisinger and George Papp who did the panel here. Robin Hood was an obvious inspiration for Oliver in terms of design but also his ethics in a sense. Despite the wealth, Oliver would be left wing and fight for the people arguably more so than Bruce Wayne. You can see in the panel that Oliver doesn't have his signature goatee you'll see that happen later when Neal Adams pencils Ollie in the Brave and the Bold #85 (1969)

who also redesigned Ollies costume too. Check out Green Lantern/Green Arrow series to see Oliver's liberal stances on what was going on in the world in the early 1980s. Nowadays, Oliver's been redesigned to to wear a hood instead of the Robin Hood cap, but he's still the left wing hero that we adore

Fantastic cover to the 80 years of Green Arrow hardcover book by Jim Lee, Scott Williams, and Alex Sinclair.

The Falcones get a mention as one of the stories Vicki Vale wrote about. The Falcones make their first appearance in Batman #405 (1987) created by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli in the Batman Year One storyline.

The man with the pipe in the second panel, by Frank Miller, David Mazzucchelli, Richmond Lewis, and Todd Klein, is the head of the head of the Falcones, Gotham's biggest mob family, Carmine "the Roman" Falcone. He and his family gets expanded explored in Batman: The Long Halloween. Both it and Batman Year One are fantastic reads, highly recommended.

The Gotham Gazette, and in a roundabout way, Gotham, gets a name drop from Perry White. The paper make its first appearance in Batman #4 (1940) and Vicki Vale is employed by them as the photojournalist.

Perry asks Lois and Jimmy to help Vicki out with a story about smearing Superman and they decide to interview people. First up is Captain Immonen who Clark saved in episode 3. The captain's last name is a reference to...

comic book artist, Stuart Immonen. He's worked on various Superman-related titles like Action Comics or the Adventures of Superman.

Probably the Superman book I enjoyed his work in, and highly recommend checking out for everyone who reads this is, Superman: Secret Identity (cover art here by Stuart Immonen) with writer Kurt Busiek about a teen who happens to be named Clark Kent in his world where there are no superheroes, only in the comic books, but somehow slowly develops powers on his own. Very cool non-canon story that is a fresh take on the Superman mythology.

The next interviewee I have to assume based on the credits at the end of the episode is, Mrs. Quietly who is a reference to...

comic book artist, Frank Quitely. You may know his name on the New X-Men with Grant Morrison, but in terms of Superman, he was the penciler for All-Star Superman (cover by Frank Quitely and Jamie Grant)...

the comic series that got an animated movie adaptation and will be the inspiration for the upcoming Superman: Legacy live action movie. The book has Superman dying thanks to Luthor and has Clark live out his final days saving the world and the future in a sense one last time. It's a great read! And speaking of Grant Morrison...

Grant Morrison got their reference through the name of a pawn shop in Metropolis.

Grant Morrison, fantastic writer, has worked on a lot of comics. As mentioned before Morrison worked with Frank Quitely on New X-Men but in terms of Superman, is best known for writing All-Star Superman with Quitely. Both have also worked on Batman and Robin together and equally great series if you want to see Dick Grayson as Batman try to wrangle in Damian Wayne as Robin.

We see Lex Luthor Alex here as the final interviewee who says Superman is a menace for ruining his job and destroyed the building he worked in. Will he lose his hair and go into business? I don't know, but when Alex gets a confirmed last name, most likely Luthor, I'll take more about him.

Later in the episode we seen screen names, LoriLemaris59 and Bibbo87 streaming videos of Superman getting his but handed to him by Task Force X. Both names are references to characters in the Superman comics.

Lori Lemaris first appeared in Superman #129 (1959) by Bill Finger, Wayne Boring, and Stan Kaye. She and Clark met in college where she posed as a wheelchair-using student and both took interest in each other, however when they're out on dates, Lori would cut the date short because of her mermaid nature. Clark tried to propose to her, but she turned him down because both are from two different worlds and it wouldn't work out. She also knew Clark was Superman because her people could read minds but she's totally cool with keeping it a secret for him. Jimmy, in MAwS, mentioned mermaids, but I did not want to point it out until we get a Lori Lemaris reference in and lo and behold it came true! The other name is a reference to Bibbo Bibbowski one of the supporting cast for Superman.

Bibbo Bibbowski makes his first appearance in the Adventures of Superman #428 (1987) by Marv Wolfman, Jerry Ordway, Tom Ziuko, and John Costanza. Superman arrives at the Ace O' Club's bar asking for information on Perry White's son, Jerry who was kidnapped. Bibbo, thinking Superman is just some guy in a costume punches Superman, gets his hand busted, and finds a new respect for him.

As mentioned before Task Force X is out to capture Superman as he and Mist try to save his sister and friend, but it turns out they are more than willing get revenge on Superman for their freedom. Even though in this universe they are Task Force X, a majority of the team is made up of Superman villains so in a sense you can make an argument that this is a Superman Revenge Squad. The first use of the team name is from the silver age, in Superman #94 (1961) where the squad was a group of aliens. The Superman villains teaming up together to get revenge on Superman first appeared in the Adventures of Superman #543 (1997). Parasite (Rudy Jones), who was part of that team, shares names with a Superman villain in MAwS here.

I think someone on the MAwS team is a fan of the X-Men arcade game cuz Livewire flies the same way Magneto does in that game.
