Rainsaken/Forsaken world (Rainworld x Forsaken stuff)
I'm wanna cook this idea for awhile, but idk where to start until now (this is more of an AU than attempting to implement Rainworld take into it,since i put of idea for that one)
(this is probably quite Rainworld sided cuz I'm hyperfixatin now lol,but also I'm kinda out of idea so I'm lifting a lot ;-;)
[RAINWORLD GAMEPLAY AND POSSIBLE LORE SPOILER AHEAD]
This is basically like Forsaken and Rainworld gameplay mechanic + lore fusion
Both games have similarities, trying survive from things that kill you,and you never truly die cuz you come back after death, and you just keep living in a cycle (except in Rainworld,we are just part of the ecosystem, while Forsaken were we being forced into an eternal death game)
This one will basically be like an semi-open world survival game with cycle and karma systems like Rainworld
But they're still stuck... they're basically in a world that spectre built just to watch them survive like wild animal. in Rainworld, ending is basically letting go of life and break free from the cycle. It could fit better with the context of Forsaken, considering it is actually better off dead forever at that point if that's the only way
Back to the point, basically, survivor's objective is to survive(ofc). Doing generators is not the only objective now, you also have to try to get enough food and reach shelter before cycle end like Rainworld.
There is killer, their objective is killing(ofc) as much survivor as possible before the end of cycle.
Survivors don't have as much limitations in there, plus you get some improvement movement set, fight however stylish you want!
Killer vary, some are nerfed cuz they're way too overpowered. But they all are technically killable,so go ahead...as long as you don't make fatal mistakes
There's other creatures too...animal? Yes. Monster? Yes. Entity? Yes. But no other robloxian, the survivors are the only robloxian.
In rainword, end of cycle will have downpour so huge it will crush and kill everything,in this one idk. (Maybe digital realm instability and then whoever didn't make it to safety die)
There's two types of shelter, main shelter(works like a lobby) and emergency shelter(the small one scattered around the place),both have water supply at least
Main lobby is very big,has multiple entrance, has entertainment devices & furniture, separate room for each survivor to rest in and light & electricity (there's one in each region)
While emergency shelter,is a small room, only for simple resting till the next cycle
A cycle last like 11 hours, cycle ending lasts another 13 hours before the new cycle starts.
Now about the region,it's basically like maps but way bigger and more complex. It is huge extension of currently existing map + some other idk. The Spectre spawn resources in there at a fixed or unfixed spot sometimes. (Fun fact:I have imagined Rainworld region ver of SFOTH,cuz it actually can work with some adjustments, only if I can make mod ;-;)
Generators are at the fixed location,it was fixed by survivors to supply electricity for them.
There are some shattered materials to make weapons or just shatter weapon itself. Sentinel has weapon by default,if they lost it in previous cycle,it will spawn back to them next cycle.
Surviving each cycle means increasing karma, while dying loses it,karma is needed for accessing some region (it probably is called smth else instead of karma, but I'm too lazy)
Survivor and killer can tame creatures, cuz why not.
That's all I have to offer,ig
(I'm sorry this is so uncreative,I actually hate it cuz of that,I will remake this in future but have this for now ig,I need to found more inspiration)
(tbh, this sounds like what if forsaken is heavily inspired by rainworld or what if the Spectre likes to watch nature documentary(me fr)
-randomized anon
Rain World and Forsaken? It feels like such an odd combination, not in a bad way but in a way where it's so interesting. Considering the environment of Rainworld and where it sets in, there are A LOT of places to go to and explore. In which maybe the survivors could be split up into groups to find resources before a cycle ends. And some regions have climbing and parkour to do! I feel like it would be entertaining to see how they would get across those :~] ((that is IF the maps were to be almost the same as the regions/environmental aspect of the game))
So there's three objectives, right? Find food and resources, do generators, and go back to the shelter before the cycle ends. But in addition, there's still a killer on the loose? Whayyytt!!! It feels like the difficulty of the au just increased by tons!
I know there were also some weapons and other garments you could find just scattered around. It would be awesome if each survivor had some sort of scrapped weapon they could use to defend themselves... from the killer and the entities that usually reside in Rain World. The monsters are always either cool looking or just blatantly horrifying.
And I would just LOVE to see each survivor have slugcats of their own!! Those fellas are really cute,, and each entity/monsters for the killers, too!

now that I've finished datv.. i have some first pass thoughts
Tumblr media
spolers below
first of all why is this game trying so hard to rehabilitate in-universe controversial aspects? I mean like. Slavery in Tevinter. It's swept under the rug with a few lukewarm platitudes and codices about how it's being addressed off-screen. Previous games have established how horrific it is, but the tevinter we see in veilguard doesn't reflect that at all. it feels dismissive of a lot of major setting and character development. Same with the antivan crows! they were described as a brutal, cruel organization but now they're the underdog protectors? Sure, there was family drama and a few mentions of how cut-throat things HAD been before, but we don't get to *see* any of that. illario was weak as an example of this bc he was the only thing to be shown as bad. There's no tangible impact.
it seems like a feeble attempt to make sure the players understand that the writers do not condone the unsavory aspects of the setting and characters, while making everything a Teachable Moment. honestly half of the game felt like a psa on extremely basic ethics, like surface-level shit children already know.
on top of that, idk why the game is trying so hard to therapize the player via companions' emotional journeys. The extremely basic and direct "your feelings matter and it's okay to feel your feelings! " scenarios were so repetitive and cringe. Sesame street level bullshit. am i crazy for expecting a more mature and nuanced approach to emotional struggle??? I swear previous games were better at this
also fuck all of southern thedas, it's cooked. hope yall didn't care!
Anyway.
ive only played through Neve's romance and i chose her bc she talks and acts like an adult and not a flustered teenager like harding, or a quirky mpdg like bellara. I liked it, it was fine. no strong feelings about it tho.
I didnt consider Taash as a romance option bc they act like a petulant child most of the time and that's just not fun for me.. and I don't love that Taash seems more like a prop for Gender Ideology 101 rather than being a fully complex character who is working through a gender identity crisis. I am not trans and cannot fully speak to this but as someone who knows more than the absolute basics of gender ideology, their story felt patronizing.
the boys are... fine, I guess. I wrecked treviso so I think i got locked out of some Lucanis stuff but his possession just isn't as compelling as previous characters who have been possessed. Davrin is fine, inoffensive. Emmerich is funny I do like him, Manfred is delightful.
I played as an elf bc I hoped it'd be extra relevant to the story, what with the Big Bad(s) being evanuris. it didn't matter at all. the crossroads doesn't even look different for an elf character like it did in Trespasser.
I expected everything to drive torward making Solas out to being a Good Guy Actually, and it kind of did. but super aggravating for have phantom varric to say that after being actually murdered by him like damn!! you are just gonna let that guy walk all over you bc yall were friends for a short while a decade ago. Where was that sympathy for Anders??
varric being a figment of rook's imagination the whole time was a fun reveal, tho.
siiigghhh. but listen. there were things I liked about the game, too. the gameplay is fun. the environments are GORGEOUS. the characters look good, i think the art style is fine actually. the character creator is great (except those qunari fiveheads RIP)
a lot of the banter and jokes did genuinely make me laugh, and i did like exploring maps and interacting with the new companions generally.
I havent given a lot of thought to it but I think a lot of the plot-related issues i have could've been solved by just setting the game like, 100 years in the future. All of the questionable and unsavory aspects of the cultures the game tries SO hard to diminish and write off would've had time to be organically rectified in-universe. I guess.
well. whatever.

In the vast, dark expanse of the universe, there lies a mystery about the first stars—massive, luminous celestial bodies that lit up the cosmos in its earliest stages. These stars, known as Population III stars, are so far removed from modern astronomy’s reach that their properties remain largely unknown. Scientists have spent decades searching for a way to uncover the details of these ancient, enigmatic stars. Today, a new method is bringing them into focus, using faint signals that were emitted billions of years ago. The 21-Centimeter Signal: A Cosmic Whisper The breakthrough lies in a faint, nearly undetectable radio signal that has persisted through time: the 21-centimeter signal. This signal, emitted by hydrogen atoms shortly after the Big Bang, is a key marker from a time known as the Cosmic Dawn—the moment when the first stars began to form and light up the universe. The 21-centimeter signal is particularly valuable because, unlike visible light or X-rays, it can provide direct insights into the masses, behaviors, and distribution of the first stars. Yet, until recently, astronomers had not fully understood the ways in which this subtle signal could help reveal the early cosmos. How Scientists Are Using the 21-Centimeter Signal An international team of astronomers, led by Professor Anastasia Fialkov at the University of Cambridge’s Institute of Astronomy, has cracked a crucial aspect of this signal. Their work, published in Nature Astronomy, demonstrates that this ancient radio signal is sensitive to the properties of the first stars. Specifically, their research suggests that the signal could be used to estimate the masses of the universe’s earliest stars—Population III stars—whose light we can never directly observe. This insight is significant because it opens a new door to understanding the early universe, which was primarily composed of hydrogen and helium. As stars formed, their radiation influenced the surrounding gas, gradually changing the composition of the universe. By studying how the 21-centimeter signal has been altered by these stars, astronomers can begin to chart the transformation from a dark, uniform mass to the complex and diverse cosmos we observe today. REACH and SKA: Key Projects for Mapping the Universe’s Past The team behind these findings is also involved in two ambitious projects—REACH (Radio Experiment for the Analysis of Cosmic Hydrogen) and the Square Kilometre Array (SKA). REACH, still in its early calibration phase, uses radio antennas to capture the 21-centimeter signal, while the SKA is an even larger array of antennas currently being constructed. The SKA will have the capacity to map vast regions of space and study fluctuations in cosmic radiation, providing an invaluable resource for understanding the earliest epochs of the universe. These projects are essential to the future of radio astronomy. By focusing on statistical patterns of faint signals, REACH and SKA offer a way to study the early universe in unprecedented detail. As Professor Fialkov explains, the research team’s model predicts that both REACH and SKA will allow astronomers to study the distribution, luminosity, and masses of Population III stars. This, in turn, will enable a more comprehensive understanding of the forces that shaped the cosmos at its infancy. The Role of X-ray Binaries in Shaping the 21-Centimeter Signal One of the most interesting aspects of this research is its exploration of how X-ray binaries—pairs of stars where one is a collapsed object like a black hole—impact the 21-centimeter signal. These binaries are thought to have played a significant role in the early universe, particularly by emitting high-energy radiation that affects the surrounding gas and alters the 21-centimeter signal. The research team, led by Professor Fialkov, developed a model that incorporates the effects of X-ray binaries, showing that previous studies may have underestimated their influence. This discovery adds a layer of complexity to our understanding of how the first stars shaped the universe. The combination of radiation from both normal stars and X-ray binaries has a profound impact on the signal, making it an even more powerful tool for mapping the earliest moments in cosmic history. Radio Telescopes: The Future of Cosmic Exploration The 21-centimeter signal’s potential is further amplified by the increasing power of radio telescopes. Unlike optical telescopes that capture detailed images of distant stars and galaxies, radio telescopes like REACH and SKA rely on detecting faint signals to infer the properties of cosmic phenomena. These telescopes won’t provide direct images of individual stars, but they will offer an extraordinary opportunity to study large-scale patterns in the universe’s earliest phases. As Dr. Eloy de Lera Acedo, Principal Investigator of the REACH project, notes, these radio observations are essential for understanding the mass and properties of the first stars. The team’s work is laying the groundwork for future discoveries, with the data gathered from the South African site of the Karoo radio telescope already being analyzed. Enjoyed this article? Astronomers capture most detailed thousand-color image of a galaxy
Astronomers have created a galactic masterpiece: an ultra-detailed image that reveals previously unseen features in the Sculptor Galaxy. Using the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope (ESO’s VLT), they observed this nearby galaxy in thousands of colours simultaneously. By capturing vast amounts of data at every single location, they created a galaxy-wide snapshot of the lives of stars within Sculptor.
"Galaxies are incredibly complex systems that we are still struggling to understand," says ESO researcher Enrico Congiu, who led a new Astronomy & Astrophysics study on Sculptor. Reaching hundreds of thousands of light-years across, galaxies are extremely large, but their evolution depends on what’s happening at much smaller scales. “The Sculptor Galaxy is in a sweet spot,” says Congiu. “It is close enough that we can resolve its internal structure and study its building blocks with incredible detail, but at the same time, big enough that we can still see it as a whole system.”
A galaxy’s building blocks — stars, gas and dust — emit light at different colours. Therefore, the more shades of colour there are in an image of a galaxy, the more we can learn about its inner workings. While conventional images contain only a handful of colours, this new Sculptor map comprises thousands. This tells astronomers everything they need to know about the stars, gas and dust within, such as their age, composition, and motion.
To create this map of the Sculptor Galaxy, which is 11 million light-years away and is also known as NGC 253, the researchers observed it for over 50 hours with the Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer (MUSE) instrument on ESO’s VLT. The team had to stitch together over 100 exposures to cover an area of the galaxy about 65 000 light-years wide.
According to co-author Kathryn Kreckel from Heidelberg University, Germany, this makes the map a potent tool: “We can zoom in to study individual regions where stars form at nearly the scale of individual stars, but we can also zoom out to study the galaxy as a whole.”
In their first analysis of the data, the team uncovered around 500 planetary nebulae, regions of gas and dust cast off from dying Sun-like stars, in the Sculptor Galaxy. Co-author Fabian Scheuermann, a doctoral student at Heidelberg University, puts this number into context: “Beyond our galactic neighbourhood, we usually deal with fewer than 100 detections per galaxy.”
Because of the properties of planetary nebulae, they can be used as distance markers to their host galaxies. “Finding the planetary nebulae allows us to verify the distance to the galaxy — a critical piece of information on which the rest of the studies of the galaxy depend,” says Adam Leroy, a professor at The Ohio State University, USA, and study co-author.
Future projects using the map will explore how gas flows, changes its composition, and forms stars all across this galaxy. “How such small processes can have such a big impact on a galaxy whose entire size is thousands of times bigger is still a mystery,” says Congiu.
IMAGE: This image shows a detailed, thousand-colour image of the Sculptor Galaxy captured with the MUSE instrument at ESO’s Very Large Telescope (VLT). Regions of pink light are spread throughout this whole galactic snapshot, which come from ionised hydrogen in star-forming regions. These areas have been overlaid on a map of already formed stars in Sculptor to create the mix of pinks and blues seen here. Credit ESO/E. Congiu et al.

Sunless Odyssey - Devlog 1: Dark
In this first devlog, I'd like to analyze the various choices I made in creating the Lite version of Sunless Odyssey. This is a simplified version that I wrote in a few hours, summarizing the 39 pages I had managed to write. Unfortunately, I signed up for the jam late, and even with the addition of a few days, I couldn't finish in time, especially since the project turned out to be extremely ambitious!
Here you can find the game downloadable for free:
The first column refers to a worldbuilding phase that also serves as the back of the pamphlet. Here I have written six settings that I have created over time playing other games or that I have prepared for Sword&Sorcery campaigns. In reality, I hope to be able to reuse each of these settings in a game of its own.
Roll or Choose together the Legend from which your world will originates from:
A battlefield wrecked by horrors left behind by a celestial war.
Ruins of a great empire roamed by its ghost servants.
The palace-tomb of a dead God fighting to escape one more.
A land devastated by the many magical calamities unleashed by one wish.
Baronies ruled by fools and knight-kings on the verge of a pointless war.
Placid isles and villages of the Realm under the full moon, now ablaze.
All or some of the above.
Tumblr media
he third part contains a very brief summary of the exploration rules. Obviously, I didn't have the space to include all the mechanics I wrote, but I must say I'm satisfied with what I included. My main inspiration for games where a pointcrawl map is created during the game is On Mighty Thews. The idea of creating a map of influences on the territory allows you to have reference points to tell what is there and the distance from the center acts as a second factor, both visual and intuitive. I've always found this mechanic brilliant and, as simple as it is to explain, it can be included in minimal games like this one.
The second part, on the other hand, is inspired by The Golden Sea, which, however, has deeper insights into how to build points of interest. While I limited myself to opening the creation of stages to dialogue through questions and answers with the Lorekeeper. I used the last part to insert the Encounter mechanic that I thought of for the finished game. Even though I couldn't include a part on Shrines, I'm happy to have given space to the various types of encounters, which are inspired by the structure of 5-room dungeons.
This flap can be folded to be read next to the Lorekeeper column on the other page, so you have everything you need for the exploration phase in front of you.
Now, before we move on to the second page, a small ad from our sponsor: Water
Drink water Unclench your jaw Drink water
On the second page, we have character creation in the left column, the main resolution mechanics, and finally a section on death and the GM/Lorekeeper.
I am a big fan of Laser & Feelings' character creation, which shows us that complex parameters are not needed to make a character unique. So I built the characters on two very simple pillars: Skills and Class, to which I later added a deeper look at objects (consumables, of course).
Specifically, the Skills part was inspired by reading those of Gubat Banwa, one of the games I used as my main inspiration and which I will talk more about in a future devlog. The idea of having High/Low Skill comes from there. To be clear, Gubat Banwa doesn't use a minimal approach at all, but there's a chapter where it describes what it means to have a high or low value in them, and when I read Wrath as a skill I was already in love.
For the classes, I was inspired by D&D, it's a low blow I know, but I recently read some articles about the identity of the classes and I wanted to use those smoky thoughts to write a list of classes and move on to a more fun part to write.
Here in Italy, D&D is as famous and played as it is in US, remaining firmly the most played game. But there is also a significant number of DMs who have tried to adapt it to their style and I am no exception. One of my most extreme homebrew rules is to treat race, class and background as traits without using any parametric elements given by the manual. What does it mean to be an elf? What can a paladin do? I don't know, you're the elf paladin, tell me and if it helps you in this situation you have advantage or +2/+5 on the roll (like M&M 3e, kinda).
While for the objects I used a very simple structure with traits that give a lot of freedom but which I think also pushes you to think about how the objects you choose. Since these can have traits that you don't attribute to them, the player has simple restrictions that can give impetus or make you think more creatively.
Immediately after skills, class and items are consolidated in the game through mechanics on their use during a test and the character receives further color through simple questions.
I would have liked to add something more about the role of the group but I have few reference tropes since souls-like games are generally individualistic and I had already run out of space.
Tumblr media
I've already written a lot and I don't want to make this devlog too long. There's still a lot to cover and I feel like I could talk about the system for hours, so I'll leave that for the next post!
Now on my to-do list before I pick up this project again:
Make an Italian translation
Propose some one-shots
Create a layout and find some suitable art
Complete the itch page
Side quests:
Work on the other Jams this month

Side Order Observations about Acht
Some reiterating of points, an analysis of our New Canon, some speculating on the timeline, and a little bit of headcanon.
So first and foremost to reiterate, I really feel like a lot of people are overfixated on the idea of Acht's reaction to Marina and Pearl's relationship being funny. To me, after going through everything, it feels like they're genuinely just trying not to be discomforted by it.
Consider the fact that Acht pretty clearly displays a low self esteem, after everything; a part of why Marina's escape hurt Acht is because of a sense of abandonment- one has to imagine they would feel like they weren't worth saving. Especially given that Acht sunk low enough to become sanitized willingly.
I dunno. To me, none of this really reads as "funny", it's tragic. And there's nothing really to do about it- Pearl is obviously a great partner for Marina- it doesn't feel like Acht has any animosity towards her. A lot of the Funny Jokes about Acht being a Hater feel very rotten to me as a result.
I feel like there's a great amount of meaning to Acht finally being able to sing with their own voice. Mind you, a decent amount of that has to do with my own complexities with my voice, but as someone who had their worthlessness cemented into them their entire life, it's a big step to be able to move forward and present your true self openly.
I don't mean to sound like I'm just venting that people aren't appreciating Acht enough, but it really feels like a lot of people just take them as like a Funny Joke Character and don't take them seriously at all. A lot of this story is about Acht's struggle with self worth. The difference between suffering in silence as long as it meant things were stable, or changing everything into an uncertain future for the sake of bettering things.
I can't help but wonder if Acht somehow fought their way into being here- as I've established previously, it's very nebulous how exactly Acht got *into* the Memverse. But beyond that, the fact that they had made #35 caught is strange, too. One has to assume timeline-wise this happened before Side Order, but... how? If reports of the low-tide party can be considered canon, their music was there as well.
It might be related to the fact that they bring up Pearl's killer wail during the finale of Octo Expansion- seemingly, that was able to reach them while they were sanitized. Perhaps that was able to return some amount of control to them? Likely not entirely, but enough to ambulate without external orders, perhaps.
It's also very strange, to me, that Acht somehow managed to be hurt prior to Eight's arrival, and moreover, that this injury seemed to incapacitate them? While I'm at it, a few theories for that:
Acht's lack of their own Palette (as mentioned in my previous post, due to sharing one with Eight, theoretically) causes them to not actually be considered by the program as a Real Person, and as such, it just doesn't Heal her.
Acht got hurt, and simply Gave Up. Seeing no way to handle this threat on their own and not really having the willpower to fight it.
The story of them getting hurt by a Jelleton was a lie, for whatever reason, and the scar already existed one way or another. After all, the Jelletons don't exactly seem capable of physical injury like that?
Each theory offers an interesting amount of potential, and ultimately it could go either way. Regardless, the cut is very strange.
So, where does Acht end up after everything, exactly? It's kind of implied that Acht did, in fact, go on the world tour with Marina and Pearl and Eight. Again, I have to ask- Marina, Pearl, and Eight all entered intentionally, where was Acht? My only real idea here is back with the "Eight and Acht share a soul and ergo this process automatically pulls Acht in too" theory, so I have to presume she's still in the NILS statue, one way or another. But going off of the map, there's evidently a subway line that leads to the deepsea now, so I have to presume it wouldn't be TOO hard, but it'd still be a bit of an ordeal to find her and get her out on her own. Just a tidbit of writing I'll definitely do once I fic this all out.
But where does Acht go afterward? I can't really help but want to just also put her with Marina and Pearl. The language of her letter implies they don't immediately live together, though. I can't really imagine Marina and Pearl wouldn't do SOMETHING to help Acht integrate into normal society, though. Then again, Acht does produce music which, evidently enough, is at least moderately popular. It's not out of the question for her to get her own place, nor is it out of the question to imagine, as much as Acht loves The Gang, they wouldn't want to feel like a burden on them, regardless of that actually being possible given their Immense Mountains of Wealth. Either way, I don't think I can come to a conclusion here, I'll have to think about it.
I just love love love Acht so much and I really hope that people appreciate them as much as I do. Even if I am greatly biased.

I'm going to level with you for this campaign. I am very biased because I love this campaign. I have lots of fond memories of playing this campaign with my friends by the seaside. Passing nervously as we did the last scenario or doing absolutely busted shit because we didn't realise how overpowered double or nothing can truly be. This doesn't mean you should take my review with a 3 autofails worth of salt because I stand by what I say, I just wanted to gush first.
Path to Carcosa: The perfection of the base formula
Tumblr media
This is a big claim to start the review so let me explain what I mean. Path to Carcosa is the quintessential arkham campaign which every future campaign will deviate from in different directions with stuff like Edge of the Earth's large maps or Scarlet Key's open world. If you loved the base game set up in Night of the Living Zealot and Dunwich Legacy then Carcosa is for you.
Path to Carcosa follows our investigators as they investigate a bizarre performance of a mysterious play which pulls them across the world to France as they try to understand exactly who they face before venturing to Carcosa in an attempt to escape their influence. This campaign spans a variety of locations from high society parties to the streets and catacombs of france but always followed by the Man in the Pallid Mask.
The campaign plays with an interesting dynamic where depending on whether you believe what you see or doubt its very existence changes how the campaign is played with whole scenarios being inverted depending on the route and even the final boss being changed. This is a formula which other campaigns follow suite on to varying levels of success (Scarlet Keys doing it well while Forgotten Age's only matters if you want the secret ending / which companion you want and Circle Undone changes some stuff but not noticeably in my opinion.) This does make saying a favourite scenario hard because there are lots of variance.
If I had to choose a best scenario (and I am writing a review here with a specific format so I sort of do), I'd name the last one but this will require some spoilers. Skip to my complaints to dodge spoilers. Dim Carcosa is the culmination of the decisions you've made across the campaign because depending on whether you had conviction or doubted all that you see. If you doubted the existence of the other world, now you have nowhere left to run because he is all around you but if you hold to your convictions, now you must face him head on at his strongest because you fed his power.
That being said, there are some complaints to be had with this campaign. Echoes of the Past snowballs one of two ways: If you get the cultists under control, it is easy but if you don't, you will struggle to get it back on track. Secondly, Dim Carcosa is harder than most other scenarios. I don't have that many complaints about the campaign as a whole if my gushing doesn't make that clear enough
In terms of investigators, brain is the name of the game. Mental damage is way more common than physical so having a decent sanity is needed unless you plan on buying Elder Sign Amulet. Keep relics and spells handy because there is an enemy which can't be beaten quickly unless you use them. An investigator capable of evading is also super useful depending on the route you take. Finally Calvin Wright can achieve godhood in this campaign so yknow go apeshit if you want.
Overall, I love this campaign. It is classic arkham perfected where the scenarios themselves aren't complex but the theming is rich and gameplay is interactive. This is the perfect introduction campaign to try with friends. If you are reading this and are even vaguely interested in trying it out, try it out (If you know me personally, message me pls pls pls pls). Finally the end of review ranking, this is the best campaign so far with Dunwich Legacy 2nd and Night of the Zealot last
Other reviews in this series:
Night of the Zealot: Let's start at the Beginning. It is a very good place to start
Dunwich Legacy: Good but with Growing Pains
The Forgotten Age: Flawed but interesting
Circle Undone; Haunted by the illusion of choice

Oh it's an update! But not any update, it's the uhhhh...
Tumblr media
the Cheesy update? That's 100% right! I updated this map.. for once. Now let's see what's new. We got ourselves a nice new look for the express lights and pipes which are now Froglights, Sealanterns, Andesite walls and Polished Blackstone walls.... yea, thats cool!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Theres also some green light on the Owl Express which is more accurate with how it is in the game
Tumblr media
And... what is this? Something new?... A MAP?! AND A (few more) NEW LOCATION(s)?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's right you lads (and lassies) you get a map of how this big ol' desert will look like! (including names!) And while we are on the topic of the map (yes I'm only 45% done with the traintracks themselves) the red part of the map was actually in A Hat in Time! During Trainwreck of Science's development the developers had an early terrain that they used for the background the train was driving on before the Canyon aka the Pit of the Golden Bone! It is Red, It is Dead and it's a Desert so y'know its called the Reddest Deadest Desert! So anyways, the older background consisted of a bunch of rocks that passed by the train and red-brown-ish ground, there even was a 2D image of mountains planned to be on the outter part of the background (shown below) as an early background graphic. Was it ever going to be used? Maybe. But we dont have any footage of that. What we do have is gameplay by our boy Habboi playing the very early version of train rush, I'm going to show you the most relevant part, which is the outside, that perfectly demonstrates how it (the background) would've worked during gameplay (and why I've placed these random rocks like that) Reuploaded gameplay Video, Background Image source
Tumblr media
And something that I wanted to talk about are the mods that are being used in this map, there were a lot. Many of them were useless (I'm looking at you dabbing mod) and some are very useful and required to play this map,
Tumblr media
Here is a random image that shows you which mods you need, which you dont need and which ones I might remove in the future. If you dont have the time to count, dont worry, I did it for you! We got 4 greens, 2 blacks, and 5 purples! The ground maybe not as bumpy as in the gameplay, but who cares, this is a minecraft map after all! Anyways, this part makes for good sunset images, which is very nice!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bit of a sidenote, but the conductor's model was made very early on during the alpha, and during that time the cell shade was still in a hat in time, that meant that the models didnt have that many details on them (such as complex fabric textures) so we didnt get the liberty of a more handsome model. :( And the Canyon's yellow ground on which the owl express drives on might be the original ground used during the early trainwreck of science outside section, just edited to go very far down. Anyways that's it for today, not a lot, but still something also placing these rocks was very hard for some reason.

MONTHLY MEDIA: June 2023
Summer months here we go! Just wrapped up my time with Zelda so I foresee more reading and tv in my future again. In the meantime, here’s how I spent June!
……….FILM……….
Tumblr media
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) Saw it twice and the first time was very nearly too much to take in. The second viewing was far less overwhelming and still a joy. While it didn’t feel like a complete story following Miles, at least there’s some satisfying conclusion with Gwen. I’m glad part 2 comes out in less than a year.
Ali Wong: Baby Cobra (2016) Maybe I wasn’t in the right mood or maybe going with one of her older specials wasn’t the right call but I wasn’t really feeling it. I can see hints of overlapping themes that pop up in BEEF (which I loved and why I wanted to watch one of her specials) but that was more interesting than it was funny. Still gonna check out her other specials.
Tumblr media
Goldeneye (1995) I have more memories playing the game than watching the movie but still a big fan of this flick. Really great characters and locales and I forgot just how comedic it is. So many one-liners! Always feels a little long at the end but worth it to see Boris’ death scene.
Encanto (2021) Late to seeing this and really great! Beautiful and personal and peak musical songs where characters basically ONLY share their personality through song.
……….TELEVISION……….
Tumblr media
Ted Lasso (Episode 3.11 to 3.12) I was really dragging my feet about finishing the series as I found season 3 wasn’t as consistently enjoyable to watch. But those last two eps really stuck the landing. Some beats were expected, some were welcome surprises, and there were so many callbacks that were naturally woven in that I was really impressed. Some of the best from the season (and on par with the rest of the series) and I’m really glad I finished it.
……….YOUTUBE……….
Tumblr media
Do "gun buybacks" work? by Vox A really succinct breakdown of how the US can do better, and an honest look at why this needs to be a part of a more complex plan. VIDEO
Tumblr media
Agnostic TTRPG Prep Method by Map Crow Really fun way to use all the books that you’re not currently using! Watch the vid and then if you like the process you can pick up the bundle HERE (not affiliated, just a fan). VIDEO
Tumblr media
The Station Toronto Needs by RMTransit Hey I’m a big fan of trains and I just found this channel. This was my first introduction to them but I’m keen to watch more. More trains! VIDEO
Tumblr media
How Editing Creates Comedies That Make You Cry... by The Editing Podcast Another channel I recently came across and I’m keen to watch more. I know very little about editing but am keen to learn more.  VIDEO
……….READING……….
Tumblr media
Bullshit Jobs by David Graeber (Page 7 of 285) Clearly I’ve only just started this (thanks to me dragging my feet on The Righteous Mind) but really excited to dig deeper. The prologue is the original essay that inspired the book and that alone already has so much in it! A really great primer and I wasn’t expecting it to lay a lot of the blame at capitalism’s feet so I think it’s gonna be a great read.
The Righteous Mind: Why Good People are Divided by Politics and Religion by Jonathan Haidt (Complete) The first time I read this (at a time when the COVID-19 vaccine was just coming out and folks were choosing not to get it) the book really helped me understand the reasoning behind other people’s choices. For that it was really helpful. This time around, with more time and more political moves behind us, I find it glaringly obvious just how out of touch (or conservative-leaning) this book is. There’s a whole section about how the free market and capitalism is good for healthcare. Wild stuff. If you want more in-depth reviews explaining why this didn’t sit right with me this time around, I found Storygraph had a lot of great write-ups (also Storygraph is great if you want an alternative to the amazon-owned Goodreads).
Tumblr media
Delicious in Dungeon Vol. 12 by Ryoko Kui (Complete) Listen I sing this series’ praises every time I read a volume and this is no different. Somehow the story, setting, and characters grow while still remaining connected to the main theme of “what if we ate the monsters we fought in an RPG?” It’s truly top-tier and I can’t stress enough that if you like charming, funny, expertly-illustrated comics, you should try out this series.
The Fade Out by Ed Brubaker, Sean Phillips, and Elizabeth Dismang (Complete) Really fun read. Old Hollywood murder mystery with a lot of really nuanced characters. The resolution felt a little abrupt and unsatisfying, but without giving anything away I think it was appropriate. I’m also not sure if it was a stylistic choice but all of the women have different shadows than the men. It feels like they’re living in two different worlds but maybe that’s intentional? Still really great.
……….AUDIO……….
Tumblr media
PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation by King Gizzard (2023) Loved King Giz’s first foray into metal and this continues that trend. I may not love everything that they do, but I love that they do everything that they do.
……….GAMING……….
Oz: A Fantasy Role-Playing Setting (Andrews McMeel Publishing) The Tuesday Crew is currently up against a young dragon (Dragonette) plaguing a mine (recap HERE) while the Mof1 Crew is divided across Munchkin District and each dealing with their own small crisis. They say never split the party but I think the trouble gets way more interesting when you do.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Nintendo) Finally moving on from this after countless hours spent in this world and it’s all bittersweet. Loved the familiar stuff, loved the new stuff, and loved the overall arc of the game. Hopefully the next game in the series goes back to something smaller and focused.
And that’s it. See you in July!

Note
Dearest Mint,
Haven't been on tumblr since it deleted my account a while back (rest in peace anonymousgothic) but I simply had to get back on here to commend you on your work. You've done it, once again. Another hit. This 3rd gen book has punctured one of my organs and rotted my brain -- that is how deeply it managed to nestle its way into me. Like I genuinely have to break bones to make room for it.
First, we must discuss Laena. There are no words in the English dictionary that can describe how satisfying it is that a Targaryen/Lannister baby has been born and bred within the walls of the red keep -- with Tywin and Robert and Cersei none the wiser. I wish so badly for her to know her true identity and understand her worth; I want so much good for her. I find it so thrilling that you chose for her to be based in King's Landing (for now) -- and do not think I didn't pick up on the fact that she's mapping out Shaemond's tunnels and yearning for the sea! I miss nothing!
I also cannot wait for her to know and love Jaime, but I am nothing if not a patient woman when it comes to you and your perfectionist pacing, Mint. I see a Daemon x Shaera dynamic in their future (and a very angsty journey à la Jaime-held-captive-while-Laena-sleeps-with-a-wolf-king!) and that hope alone will keep me sustained for now.
Second, Brynden. If I had a nickel for every time a bastard believed himself to be the son of Ashara Dayne, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice! Am I worried that Dany will take this betrayl even worse than she took Jorah's? Yes. Am I hoping the power of love overcomes? Also, Yes. Cannot wait for him to meet his aunt (who I know you will do right by) and his uncle (truly the most beautiful Targaryen, if only his personality matched). His history with Jorah and honesty just his background in general intrigues me, Arya would worship the ground he walks on, I already know. Also, whilst I see much of Rhaenyra in Laena's demure and yet childishly wild persona, I see so much of Arthur in Brynden. All of that honor -- um, career choice aside!
Third, the TRUE heir to the iron throne. Rhaegar's emo boy complexity is strong in this one. Quite possibly the most original storyline to ever be given to a Game of Thrones original character. And by far one of the most enticing. He's so morally grey and to see that clash with Jon's annoyingly fierce sense of honor will be...delicious. The fact that he wields Dark Sister honestly put me in a coma, and I only awoke to type out this novel-length review (Do not attempt to contact me once you finish reading this for I will be falling back into my state of prolonged loss of consciousness).
Also do I have a major soft spot for him because he is eldest daughter coded? Do I love him because of how much he mirror Viserys -- the older siblings who remembers everything and has been left with nothing on the outskirts of the kingdom he was due to inherit? Answer is maybe.
In short; wow. Truly, Mint. You created a multiverse that puts Marvel to shame. I cherish each and every one of your characters, and can do nothing but thank you and remind you of how powerful you truly are. I still have people emailing me about your work -- and it takes all the power in the world to simply point them in your direction and not go on a 10 page rant about how much they're gonna love it.
All my love, your biggest fan,
Anonymousgothic
excuse me while I go scream cry and throw up, I love you for this so so so much, I can’t even articulate it (and I’m so sorry I can’t put it into such beautiful words how grateful I am for this cause I am deceased by how big my heart is for you, and for this). Thank you for picking out the smaller details and thank you for the love and support. Pls know u are adored (by me hehe)

Since our lovely friend @kavohh707 has asked, I'll try to explain what the situation was, since it's a bit complex in principle.
I was enjoying my birding business as usual when I arrived at the pond, and a senior gentleman approached me and asked me if I knew which bird that was while pointing at a girl sitting with her boyfriend - and there I saw she was holding a tiny little grebe baby. (!)
Tumblr media
I was really amazed and I asked what happened. They told me it was on the shore all alone, and that attempts to return it to the water resulted in the coots pecking at it (they have babies too). In that little map you can make out what the situation looked like. We were at the X.
So I just assessed the situation. I saw the little grebe adult already as I was coming from the path, but they dive and disappear quite easily. I realised the chick was really tiny and barely mobile, and that it must have just hatched – the first to do so clearly. And what must have happened is that somehow it got separated from the parent, got too close to the coots, got attacked, had to flee, and the parent must have lost sight. And once birds lose sight and earshot of their babies, they stop existing for them. Also, a little grebe is not going to get to the shore.
Anyway, I tried to locate the adult with the baby, but the parent was just foraging in the middle of the pond, minding its own business. It was impossible to get closer to it, and leaving the chick in the water so far away was very tricky – I was very sceptical a reunion could happen without other beasts interfering first.
I told the girl that in these situations, you can try to contact the local wildlife rescue, but that I wouldn't hold much hope given my past experiences with them. She did it anyway, and they hung up as she was explaining the reason for her call. Then she called the emergency number, and the dispatcher politely told her she should call the wildlife rescue service. I'll reserve further comments about how there's virtually no help for these cases in such a big city.
Given there were no other options, I had to try to access the fenced side of the pond, which is protected because that's where the birds build their nests (luckily the cygnets hatched a couple of weeks ago). I was hopeful that I could locate the nest, or at least an adult nearby.
The boy gave me impulse to climb the fence and of course I had to get all scratched with the barbed wire, but it was just superficial. At least I was able to land fine. They handed me the chick again and I tried to find the nest where the other adult must have been incubating, but it was impossible. I could hear the little grebe occasionally calling and got a glimpse of it, but still far – obviously they weren't going to approach me.
Finally, I realised all I could do was leave the chick there and hope for the best. As I thought of this, a crow perched over my head and I thought "of *** course", but it then left as my human presence was undesirable.
I laid the chick in the water, but it swam back and tried to climb to the shore in vain, so I put it on the shore, in the area under the trees, and left. It was so vulnerable and I was really not very optimistic.
Then I managed to climb back, the couple left, and I had to go too, but before I was gone, like not even 5 minutes later, I could see the chick climbing on the adult's back and my joy was so big that I had to run to tell the gentleman. Then both could be seen swimming together and it just seemed so simple, yet when I was holding that chick, I had barely any hope for it – I've had too many bad experiences, but now I've come to realise good things can happen too.
So yeah, once you see it in hindsight, it wasn't that difficult (apart from the trespassing). I'm so glad these youngsters rescued the chick and that it can have a second chance. Such a big coincidence, because that baby would have been easy prey for a crow without intervention.
Hopefully it does well in the future.
Tumblr media
tl;dr: Some youngfolks found the chick on the shore and didn't know what to do, so I climbed up a fence to access the area where the adult was swimming and they got reunited.
Bird Log #051
Today birding was worth it because…
...We managed to save the babiest little grebe hatchling.

Educating Future Leaders: The Evolving Role of Criminal Justice Professors in Higher Education
In today’s complex and rapidly changing world, criminal justice is no longer just about learning law enforcement rules or understanding courtroom procedures. Instead, it has become an interdisciplinary field that blends policy, ethics, technology, psychology, and public service. At the heart of this transformation are criminal justice professors—educators, researchers, and mentors who play a critical role in shaping the minds of future leaders. Their work goes far beyond lecturing in classrooms; it includes preparing students to navigate societal challenges and promote justice in meaningful, forward-thinking ways.
As the landscape of criminal justice evolves, so does the responsibility of those who teach it. Professors are adapting their roles to prepare students for careers that demand technical knowledge and a deep understanding of equity, ethics, and reform.
Shaping Curricula to Match a Changing World
Criminal justice professors are at the forefront of curriculum development in higher education, ensuring that their courses reflect current realities and anticipated trends. Gone are the days when textbooks alone were enough. Today’s students must grapple with issues such as mass incarceration, community policing, forensic science, and digital surveillance. As public discourse increasingly scrutinizes the justice system, professors are rethinking how and what they teach.
Many institutions now emphasize topics like social justice, racial disparities in sentencing, mental health interventions, and restorative justice practices. Professors are tasked with weaving these complex subjects into their lessons in a way that challenges students’ thinking without overwhelming them. In doing so, they help students become critical thinkers who are prepared for law enforcement or legal work and capable of driving meaningful change.
Technology has also played a big part in shaping the curriculum. Professors are incorporating tools like crime mapping software, data analytics platforms, and virtual reality simulations to enhance students’ understanding of real-world scenarios. These innovations give students practical skills while encouraging ethical decision-making in high-stakes situations.
Mentoring Beyond the Classroom
A significant and often underappreciated part of a criminal justice professor’s job is mentorship. Today’s students are navigating academic demands and moral and societal questions about justice, fairness, and their role in the system. Professors often become trusted advisors, guiding students as they determine how their values align with their career aspirations.
Effective mentors in criminal justice programs do more than help with résumés or job placements. They facilitate discussions about ethics in policing, advocate for students interested in reform-oriented careers, and connect them with internships or research projects that support experiential learning. In doing so, they model leadership and integrity.
This mentorship also extends to graduate students and young scholars who aspire to enter academia. Professors help these future educators develop their own teaching philosophies and research agendas. In this way, the cycle of education and transformation continues, with each new generation of professors building on the work of their mentors.
Driving Research That Influences Policy
Criminal justice professors are thought leaders who contribute to the growing body of research that shapes local, state, and national policies. Their studies often tackle pressing issues like police use of force, prison reform, juvenile justice, and gun violence. Through peer-reviewed publications, policy briefs, and public presentations, they offer evidence-based insights that guide lawmakers and civic leaders.
Importantly, many professors are now engaging in community-based research, partnering directly with police departments, advocacy groups, or correctional facilities. This approach enriches the relevance of their work and ensures that diverse voices are included in the conversation. It also provides a framework for students to engage in collaborative projects that produce tangible results.
Professors who publish and consult on justice reform initiatives bridge the academic world and the communities most affected by the criminal justice system. Using their expertise to influence public opinion and decision-making, they bring academic rigor into the real world—where it can make a difference.
Championing Diversity and Inclusion
The call for equity and inclusion has reached every corner of higher education, and criminal justice departments are no exception. Professors are revising course materials to include more diverse perspectives and advocating for increased representation within their own faculty ranks.
In many cases, professors are also taking active roles in promoting diversity among students. They support first-generation college students, underrepresented minorities, and those who may not see themselves reflected in traditional law enforcement or legal professions. By creating an inclusive environment, professors help empower a broader range of future leaders who bring unique insights and experiences to the justice system.
Guest speakers, culturally responsive assignments, and inclusive discussions are just a few of the ways professors foster a more welcoming academic environment. These efforts ensure that all students feel valued and encouraged to contribute to meaningful reform efforts inside and outside the classroom.
Perhaps the most vital contribution criminal justice professors make is instilling a sense of ethical responsibility in future justice professionals. Beyond technical skills and academic knowledge, students need a strong moral compass to make fair and balanced decisions. This includes understanding the weight of authority, the importance of due process, and the responsibility of serving communities with respect.
Professors play a key role in helping students grapple with gray areas—where the law and ethics may not always align perfectly. Case studies, role-playing, and ethical dilemmas are often used as teaching tools to help students practice navigating difficult choices. These exercises encourage empathy, critical thinking, and long-term reflection.
The ultimate goal is to prepare students to become thoughtful, principled leaders who prioritize justice and fairness, even in complex and high-pressure situations. In their evolving roles, criminal justice professors serve as instructors and architects of that transformation.
Educators as Changemakers
As criminal justice undergoes a generational shift, the role of the professor is more crucial than ever. These educators are training tomorrow’s law enforcement officers, lawyers, and policymakers and shaping the values and frameworks through which justice is understood and applied.
By updating curricula, providing mentorship, contributing to policy research, and championing diversity, criminal justice professors are redefining what it means to teach justice. Their work ensures that future leaders are not only skilled but also profoundly aware of the human dimensions of their field.
In a time of social reckoning and demand for reform, criminal justice professors are no longer just educators—they are changemakers helping to build a more thoughtful, ethical, and inclusive justice system for future generations.

Shaping Wollongong’s Future Through Expert Planning
The Vision Behind Modern Town Planning
The coastal city of Wollongong, with its vibrant community and stunning natural landscapes, stands as a beacon of potential for sustainable urban development. Crafting a city that balances growth with livability requires expertise, foresight, and precision. A town planning consultant plays a pivotal role in this process, acting as a visionary who shapes the urban landscape. These professionals blend creativity with technical knowledge to design spaces that foster community, support economic growth, and preserve the environment. Their work ensures that Wollongong evolves into a city that meets the needs of its residents while maintaining its unique character. From residential neighborhoods to commercial hubs, the consultant’s role is to create a cohesive plan that aligns with the city’s long-term goals.
The process begins with understanding the community’s needs. A consultant engages with residents, businesses, and local authorities to gather insights into what makes Wollongong special. This collaborative approach ensures that development projects reflect the values and aspirations of the people who call the city home. Whether it’s designing pedestrian-friendly streets or preserving green spaces, the consultant’s expertise transforms ideas into reality. Their ability to navigate complex regulations and zoning laws ensures that every project complies with legal standards while pushing the boundaries of innovative design. In Wollongong, where the urban meets the natural, this balance is critical to maintaining the city’s charm.
The Role of Land Surveying in Development
Accurate measurement of land forms the foundation of any successful urban project. A land surveyor Wollongong provides the precise data needed to bring a consultant’s vision to life. These professionals use advanced tools and techniques to map out the physical characteristics of a site, from its topography to its boundaries. Their work ensures that every development project starts with a clear understanding of the land’s potential and limitations. In a city like Wollongong, where coastal cliffs and rolling hills define the landscape, this expertise is indispensable.
Surveyors begin by assessing the site’s features, identifying natural elements like rivers or slopes that could impact construction. They also establish property boundaries to prevent disputes and ensure compliance with local regulations. This detailed information allows architects, engineers, and planners to design structures that harmonize with the environment. For example, a surveyor’s data might reveal the need for specific drainage systems to manage stormwater runoff, a common challenge in Wollongong’s coastal climate. By providing accurate measurements, surveyors enable planners to create developments that are both functional and sustainable.
Collaboration for a Sustainable Future
The synergy between town planning consultants and land surveyors is what drives successful urban development. While consultants focus on the big picture—designing layouts that promote connectivity and accessibility—surveyors provide the granular details that make those plans feasible. Together, they ensure that every project in Wollongong aligns with environmental, social, and economic goals. This collaboration is particularly important in a city that values its natural beauty and community spirit. By working together, these professionals create developments that enhance the quality of life for residents while protecting the environment for future generations.
Consultants often rely on surveyors’ data to make informed decisions about land use. For instance, a surveyor’s topographic map might influence the placement of a new residential estate, ensuring that homes are built on stable ground with minimal environmental disruption. Similarly, surveyors depend on consultants to provide context for their work, such as the intended use of a site or the community’s long-term needs. This partnership ensures that every project, from small subdivisions to large commercial developments, is executed with precision and care.
Overcoming Challenges in Urban Development
Wollongong’s unique geography presents both opportunities and challenges for urban development. Steep terrain, coastal erosion, and environmental regulations require careful consideration at every stage of a project. Town planning consultants address these challenges by integrating sustainable practices into their designs. They might propose green roofs to reduce urban heat or advocate for public transport hubs to decrease reliance on cars. Their ability to think creatively while adhering to strict guidelines ensures that Wollongong remains a livable and resilient city.
Land surveyors also play a critical role in overcoming these challenges. Their detailed assessments help identify potential risks, such as flood-prone areas or unstable soil, before construction begins. By providing this information early in the planning process, surveyors help avoid costly delays and ensure that projects are built to last. In Wollongong, where the natural landscape is both a strength and a constraint, this expertise is essential for creating developments that are safe, sustainable, and aligned with the city’s vision.
Building a Legacy for Wollongong
The work of town planning consultants and land surveyors extends beyond individual projects. Their efforts shape the future of Wollongong, creating a legacy that will benefit generations to come. By designing spaces that foster community, support local businesses, and protect the environment, these professionals ensure that the city remains a vibrant place to live, work, and play. Their contributions are visible in the well-planned neighborhoods, accessible public spaces, and thriving commercial areas that define Wollongong’s identity.
As the city continues to grow, the demand for skilled consultants and surveyors will only increase. Their ability to balance innovation with practicality makes them indispensable to Wollongong’s development. From preserving the city’s coastal charm to accommodating a growing population, these professionals are at the forefront of creating a sustainable and inclusive urban future. Their work ensures that Wollongong remains a place where people can thrive, surrounded by the natural beauty that makes the city so special.
