౨ৎ Heeseung - You always know
The door clicks softly behind you as you slump inside your apartment, heels dangling from your hand, mascara slightly smudged from the stress of the night. Another date gone wrong. Another charming-on-text loser who spent more time talking about himself than asking a single question about you. At one point he even took a call at the table. You’d sat there swirling a straw in a watered-down drink, wishing you were literally anywhere else.
You drop your bag by the couch and sigh into the quiet. It hums back at you with the same kind of hollow loneliness you’ve gotten too used to.
Your fingers tap against your phone screen before you even think about it.
you: had another trash date lol sorry if im bothering u just rly bummed out
You don’t expect a reply right away. But before you can even toss your phone aside, it buzzes.
hee ౨ৎ: open the door
You blink. Then look up.
Another buzz.
hee ౨ৎ: i was already on my way. figured something was up
Heart hiccuping, you shuffle to the door, unlocking it slowly—and there he is. Hoodie half-zipped, hair tousled like he just left in a hurry, one hand clutching your favorite takeout and the other carrying a fuzzy blanket you've been trying to steal from him for weeks.
“I didn’t know if you’d eaten,” Heeseung says, stepping inside like he always belongs here. He doesn't wait for an answer, just sets everything down on the coffee table and opens his arms.
You melt.
Your face tucks into the curve of his neck like it’s muscle memory. He’s warm and steady and smells like laundry detergent and vanilla and home.
You mumble, “You really were already on your way?”
“Mmhm,” he hums against your hair. “Just had a feeling.”
You don’t even question it. He always knows.
You eat curled up on opposite ends of the couch, his long legs tangled with yours under the blanket. He doesn’t ask about the date. He doesn’t need to. He just listens while you vent, eyes soft, gaze focused on you like you’re the only thing that matters.
Eventually, you’re lying with your head in his lap while he scrolls through movies on the TV.
“Something comforting,” he murmurs, already queuing up your favorite. “The one with the sad girl who finds herself and the cottage with the vines—”
“That’s a romance,” you whisper, half-laughing.
Heeseung just smirks. “Exactly.”
As the movie plays, you watch him in the flickering light — the soft shadows against his jawline, the slight smile when a familiar line hits, the way he rests his hand gently over your arm like he wants to keep you tethered here with him.
And somewhere between your chest aching and your heart warming, it slips out.
“Why can’t the guys I date be more like you…”
Heeseung flinches.
The remote fumbles in his hand and clatters to the ground with a sharp clack.
Your eyes widen. He stiffens. “Oops—uh. Sorry.” He leans down too fast to grab it, smacking his head lightly on the table and cursing under his breath.
You blink at him. “You okay?”
“Yeah. Fine. Just—clumsy.” He clears his throat, setting the remote back carefully like it might explode again. His ears are glowing pink.
You stare at him, heart thudding.
He doesn’t look at you. Just leans back against the couch and mutters, “Want me to rewind the movie?”
You pause. “No. I’m good.”
He nods, quiet.
But the atmosphere has changed. Charged. He’s still close, still comforting, but his posture’s too stiff now, too careful, like he’s thinking too hard about breathing near you.
Later, when the movie ends and you both sit in the hush of the credits, you speak again.
“I just…” you whisper, watching the glow from the screen reflect in his eyes. “I wish I could find someone who treats me like you do. You’d be the perfect boyfriend.”
Heeseung freezes.
Then turns to you slowly, expression unreadable. His voice is low.
“Then why don’t you date me?”
You laugh, confused. “What—”
“I’m serious.”
You blink.
His eyes are locked on yours. No teasing. No smirk. Just honest, vulnerable silence.
“You’re serious?” you whisper.
He nods once. “I’ve always known it was you. I was just waiting for you to catch up.”
Your heart leaps into your throat. And then—flutters.
His fingers inch toward yours, tentative, until they’re brushing lightly, and when you don’t pull away, he laces them together.
“I didn’t think…” You breathe out. “I didn’t think you felt the same.”
“I do.” Heeseung smiles softly, then leans forward until your foreheads touch. “I have. Every time I showed up for you, every night I stayed over just to keep you company, every moment I wished you’d look at me like that…”
You do now.
And this time, when he leans in — slow, careful, trembling with hope — you meet him halfway.
౨ৎ Jay - The way you look at me
You’re already in tears by the time you leave the restaurant.
Not the dramatic, mascara-running kind. Just the quiet, aching kind — the ones that slip out even when you don’t want them to. This one stung a little more than usual. The guy didn’t just talk over you — he insulted your interests, made snide jokes about “emotional girls,” and scoffed when you said you wanted something real. It left you wondering if you were asking for too much.
You don’t text Jay.
You don’t have to.
The second your key turns in the door, the smell hits you — warm, comforting, something buttery and spiced — like childhood and safety all rolled into one.
You step inside and blink.
Jay stands in your kitchen in a dark t-shirt, sleeves pushed to his elbows, a striped apron tied lazily around his waist. He looks up like he’s been caught red-handed.
“I was gonna text and say come over,” you mumble.
“I figured you’d need something sooner,” he says simply, stirring the pan once before lowering the heat. “So I let myself in.”
Your chest tightens.
There’s a pot on the stove, steam rising lazily from it. A pan of something golden browning beside it. Plates already set. A candle burning low.
“You made—” Your voice cracks. “You made the pasta?”
“The one you said reminds you of your mom’s.” He shrugs, trying to seem casual. “You sounded tired last time we talked. Thought you’d need it tonight.”
Your throat feels too full to respond. You cross the kitchen slowly, eyes burning in that way that says thank you without the words.
He glances at you. “You okay?”
You nod.
“You wanna talk about it?”
You shake your head, stepping behind him, letting your arms wrap around his middle as you press your face into his back. He stills, surprised—but only for a moment. Then one of his hands reaches down to cover yours.
“You’re not asking for too much,” he says softly, like he’s already guessed the thing you didn’t say.
You don’t speak. You just hold on tighter.
Dinner is quiet, the way it always is when you’re feeling raw and Jay is being careful with you — soft glances, gentle hands when he passes the parmesan, a million unspoken things in every motion. Afterward, he makes tea and sets up the couch for a movie night without asking.
“You pick,” he says, stretching across the cushions to pass you the remote.
You curl under the throw blanket and sigh, not even looking at the screen.
Jay turns his head toward you. “Wanna do nothing instead?”
You nod.
So you sit. Shoulder to shoulder. Familiar and close and quiet.
After a while, he gets up and starts tidying the kitchen. And that’s when you catch yourself watching.
The way he moves—careful, confident, focused. The way he takes his time with everything. The soft hum in his throat as he dries dishes. The way he set aside the last bite of garlic bread because he knew it was your favorite.
And suddenly, something slips out.
“I wish the guys I went out on dates with were more like.. you.”
The sound of ceramic shattering on tile cuts the air in half.
You jump.
Jay freezes mid-motion, staring down at the cracked plate on the floor like it betrayed him. “Shit—sorry.” He crouches quickly to clean it, not looking at you.
You rush to help. “It’s okay, I didn’t mean—”
“No, it’s—” He’s already sweeping the pieces into his hand, face turned so you can’t see it. “It’s fine.”
But his hands are trembling.
You blink. “Jay?”
He doesn’t answer.
You touch his wrist lightly. “Hey. What’s wrong?”
He finally looks at you, and it’s like the air has changed again — his expression unreadable, jaw tight, eyes searching yours for something you don’t quite understand.
You try to laugh it off, suddenly self-conscious. “Sorry, that was kind of a weird thing to say.”
Jay finishes sweeping and stands slowly, leaning against the counter like he needs a second to think.
Then you say it again, more quietly. “You’d be the perfect boyfriend.”
He lets out a breath — sharp, disbelieving.
“Don’t say that,” he murmurs.
You blink. “Why not?”
“Because…” He looks at you like you’ve cracked something in him. “I’ve been trying so hard not to say it first.”
The silence that follows is thick.
You stare. “Say what?”
Jay steps toward you, then stops — unsure, unreadable.
“That I’m in love with you,” he says quietly. “That I’ve been in love with you. That every time you cry about some guy who couldn’t see how lucky he was, it kills me because I’m right here. And I’ve been here.”
Your lips part, but you can’t speak.
He runs a hand through his hair, eyes wild and warm and terrified. “I know you weren’t ready. And I never wanted to make you feel like you had to see me that way, but tonight—” His voice softens. “Tonight you looked at me like you finally saw what I’ve been trying to show you this whole time.”
Your heart thunders.
You had looked at him that way. You’d always admired him — his calm, his kindness, the fire in him that always warmed you up when you felt too cold. You just never thought…
“I didn’t think you’d want me,” you whisper.
Jay’s breath catches. “I’ve always wanted you.”
He takes another step.
“I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to lose you. But I can’t keep pretending I don’t want more than this.”
You look at him—really look at him—and all the times he showed up for you play in your mind like flashes of sunlight.
Slowly, you take his hand. It’s still a little shaky, but when you hold on, he steadies.
You whisper, “What if I want more too?”
He doesn’t speak. He just pulls you in and kisses your forehead, gently, reverently—like he’s waited a lifetime for this moment to finally arrive.
౨ৎ Jake - Never not you
It starts with your phone vibrating on your chest, just as your eyes are starting to sting from holding back tears too long.
You don’t check the screen. You don’t want to talk to anyone. You just stare at the ceiling of your bedroom, replaying the disaster of tonight’s date — the awkward silences, the backhanded compliments, the fake polite goodbye at the end. All you wanted was someone who’d make you feel seen. Instead, you feel lonelier than before.
Another buzz.
Then another.
Then a knock at your door.
You sit up, confused, wiping your eyes.
“Delivery?” you mumble, shuffling to open it.
But it’s not food.
It’s Jake.
He’s standing there, hair a little windblown, hoodie zipped up halfway and cheeks pink from the chill. In one hand, he’s holding a small bouquet of fresh wildflowers. In the other, a bag from your favorite bakery—the one that’s only open late on Fridays.
“I was already on my way,” he says softly. “Something told me you needed me.”
Your bottom lip wobbles.
You don’t cry, but you do fold into him the second he opens his arms.
He doesn’t say anything. Just hugs you so tight it’s like he’s holding together all the parts of you that want to fall apart.
Twenty minutes later, you’re in your pajamas under a mountain of blankets on the couch. The warm scent of baked pastries fills the air. Jake’s got your feet in his lap, his thumbs gently massaging the arch like he’s trying to erase all the tension of the night.
You’re both watching one of those cheesy rom-coms he secretly loves more than you do, though he always pretends otherwise.
“Tonight sucked,” you mutter.
He doesn’t ask for details. He just leans back, still holding your feet. “He didn’t see you, did he?”
You glance at him. “How do you always know?”
Jake shrugs one shoulder. “Because if he had, you’d be smiling. You always light up when someone gets you.”
Your breath catches. You don’t respond. You just look at him.
His profile is soft in the glow of the TV. There’s a slight crease in his brow, like he’s still worried. You want to reach out and smooth it with your thumb.
Instead, you say quietly, “Why can’t guys be more like you…”
Jake stills.
His eyes don’t leave the screen, but his fingers stop moving.
You sit up a little, trying to meet his eyes. “Seriously. You’re so thoughtful. You always know what I need. You never make me feel like I’m too much or not enough—”
Jake suddenly fumbles the pastry bag in his lap and spills the last croissant right onto the floor.
“Ah..shit—sorry,” he blurts, scrambling to grab it. He drops the tongs trying to pick it up.
You blink. “You okay?”
“Fine!” he squeaks. Then clears his throat and tries to play it off. “Yeah. Just… butter fingers.”
You raise an eyebrow. “You sure?”
He nods a little too quickly. “Totally. I just… wasn’t expecting you to say that.”
You tilt your head. “Say what?”
He carefully places the rescued croissant on a napkin, still not looking at you. “That you wish guys were like me.”
Your voice softens. “Well… I do.”
The silence stretches, almost like the room’s holding its breath with you.
And then, because the ache in your chest is too much to sit with, you add, “You’d be the perfect boyfriend.”
Jake turns to you, eyes wide.
He looks like you just told him the moon said his name.
Then, very quietly, he says, “Then… why not me?”
Your heart skips.
You blink. “Wait..what..? Are you serious?”
He nods, slowly this time. The corners of his mouth twitch up—hopeful, nervous, a little amazed you haven’t laughed him off yet.
“I know we’ve been best friends forever,” he says gently, “but I’ve loved you for almost as long. I didn’t want to ruin what we had by saying anything. But it’s you. It’s never not been you.”
Your lips part. “Jake…”
“I didn’t want to be another guy who hurt you,” he whispers, voice shaking a little. “I wanted to be the one who reminded you how loved you are. I just never thought you’d actually—feel the same.”
You swallow hard.
Your chest is doing that tight fluttery thing again. Because you do. Deep down, you’ve always known it. The way you’d light up when his name appeared on your phone. The way his laugh made everything easier. The way you looked for him in every crowd.
You whisper, “I think I’ve always wanted it to be you.”
Jake beams.
Not a smirk. Not a flirty grin. A full, radiant, stunned smile like you’ve just made his entire year.
He reaches for your hand, then changes his mind and gently cups your cheek instead, brushing his thumb just under your eye.
“Can I kiss you?” he asks quietly, breathlessly.
You nod.
And when he leans in, it’s slow and sweet and full of every unspoken thing you’ve both carried for so long. And when he pulls back just barely, lips still brushing yours, he murmurs,
“You’re my favorite everything.”
౨ৎ Sunghoon - Say something
It’s late.
The kind of late where the streets outside are quiet and your bedroom ceiling is glowing dimly with the light of passing cars. You’re curled up under a blanket in your hoodie, trying not to cry but very much failing. Again.
The guy from tonight wasn’t mean, exactly. Just… indifferent. He scrolled through his phone when you talked. Showed up twenty minutes late with no explanation. Didn’t even pretend to walk you home.
And maybe it wouldn’t sting so much if it didn’t feel like a pattern.
You don’t text anyone. You just throw your phone facedown and try to forget it.
Until, barely five minutes later, there’s a knock at your window.
You freeze.
Another knock.
You scramble out of bed and yank the curtains aside — and there he is.
Sunghoon. In his gray zip-up and a beanie pulled low over his brows, standing on your fire escape holding two steaming cups of hot chocolate and a very unimpressed expression.
You open the window with wide eyes. “What the—Hoon??”
“I figured he’d flake,” he says flatly, climbing in like this is something he does every day. “You ghosted the group chat. That’s never a good sign.”
You blink as he hands you one of the cups.
“I made it with that fancy cocoa you like,” he mumbles. “With the cinnamon.”
You stare at him.
Sunghoon doesn't meet your eyes. He just kicks off his shoes and settles onto your bed like it’s his.
“I didn’t get ghosted,” you say quietly, sitting beside him.
He nods. “But you are sad.”
You sip the cocoa. “How do you always know?”
He shrugs. “You always blink a lot when you’re trying not to cry.”
Your throat tightens.
Silence passes for a bit. Your room is dim, your fairy lights casting soft little shadows across his jawline. You watch him — the way his hands cradle the mug, the furrow in his brows even now. He’s always like this. A little standoffish. A little too observant. And yet always there the second you fall apart.
And maybe it’s the warmth in your hands, or the fact that you’re so, so tired of being disappointed — but the words come out before you can stop them.
“Why can’t guys be more like you…”
He freezes.
Like actually freezes.
No blink. No breath. Just wide, stunned deer-in-headlights stillness.
Then he promptly chokes on his hot chocolate.
You lunge to pat his back. “Hoon??”
“I’m good—” cough cough “Totally fine—” cough “Jesus—”
You bite back a laugh. “You don’t look fine.”
“I’m great.” He clears his throat aggressively and looks everywhere but at you. “Just… went down the wrong pipe.”
“Mmhmm,” you say, clearly not buying it.
He shifts on the bed, suddenly tense. “You… didn’t mean that, right?”
“Why wouldn’t I?”
He swallows, hard.
You lean back against the pillows, watching him over the rim of your cup. “Seriously. You’re thoughtful, reliable, good with your words—when you use them—”
“Okay—”
“You always show up when I need you,” you add, voice soft now. “You’d be the perfect boyfriend.”
Sunghoon just stares at you.
You don’t even realize how intense your gaze is until he finally looks away, the tips of his ears glowing red.
“You’re messing with me,” he mutters.
“No, I’m not.”
He sets down his cup slowly. His voice is quieter when he says, “Don’t say things like that if you don’t mean them.”
You sit up straighter. “But I do mean it.”
Sunghoon finally meets your eyes, and there’s something raw there now. Something just barely holding itself together.
And then, because he’s Sunghoon and horrible at vulnerability, he blurts:
“Then maybe you should date me.”
Your mouth opens. “What?”
He looks away again, rubbing the back of his neck. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to say that.”
You reach for his hand before he can pull it away. “Sunghoon. Look at me.”
He hesitates—then does. And your heart cracks wide open.
“I want to say yes,” you whisper.
He blinks. “You do?”
You nod. “I didn’t think you liked me that way.”
“I didn’t think you’d ever look at me that way,” he breathes. “You’re always chasing guys who treat you like crap. Meanwhile, I’m here, dying every time you tell me about them, and all I want to do is tell you they don’t deserve you.”
“You should’ve said something.”
“I was scared.” His voice rises slightly, then softens again. “I didn’t want to ruin what we had. But tonight… when you said that…”
He pauses, then lets out a soft breath.
“I wanted to kiss you so bad I forgot how to breathe.”
Your eyes soften. You shift closer.
“Then don’t forget now.”
He stares at you.
And then he kisses you.
It’s tentative at first — almost like he doesn’t believe it’s happening — but it grows, slow and sure and full of everything he’s held back for so long.
When you pull apart, you press your forehead against his and whisper,
“You know you can come through the door next time, right?”
He grins. “Where’s the fun in that?”
౨ৎ Sunoo - If only you knew
You don’t say anything when the door swings open.
You just step inside, drop your purse on the floor, and crawl straight onto the couch face-down, muffling a scream into the cushions.
There's silence.
Then the sound of slippers shuffling quickly across hardwood.
Then:
“Oh no. Which flavor of man failed you this time?”
You peek out of the couch to see Sunoo standing over you in an oversized sweatshirt, hair in a clip, face cream still dotted on his cheeks like he was mid-self-care ritual when you texted the dreaded “can I come over”.
You groan. “The worst one.”
He gasps. “Worse than finance bro?”
“Worse than vape in the Uber guy.”
“Girl.”
“I know.”
Sunoo lets out the most offended noise you've ever heard and immediately shuffles toward the kitchen. “I’m making tea. And I’m putting on that sad cottage movie you like. You’re not allowed to argue.”
You don’t.
You just melt further into the couch and let yourself exhale.
Because somehow, Sunoo always knows exactly what to do when the world feels heavy.
By the time the kettle whistles, you’ve been tucked in with three blankets and a stuffed animal you pretend isn’t yours.
Sunoo returns with a tray of snacks, two mugs of tea, and a disgusted look on his face.
“So what did he do? Tell me everything. I’m ready to judge.”
You shake your head. “He… didn’t even try, Nuu.”
He sets the tray down and climbs onto the couch beside you. “Try what?”
“To know me. To see me. I spent half the night trying to think of things to talk about. It felt like I was trying to impress someone who couldn’t care less.”
Sunoo's eyes narrow. “Should I fight him?”
You let out a laugh — small, watery.
He leans his head on your shoulder. “You know you’re not hard to love, right?”
You stay quiet.
Sunoo reaches for your hand under the blanket and squeezes it. “Some people just don’t know what they’re holding until it’s gone.”
You glance at him, heart aching.
He’s right here. Warm and thoughtful and sharp as ever. He always has been.
And somehow, you whisper it before you can think better of it.
“I wish guys were more like you…”
You feel him tense.
He sits up, blinking, and nearly spills the tray trying to set his cup down.
You blink back. “Nuu?”
“Did you mean that?” he says quickly, voice just slightly higher than usual.
“I—yeah?”
He just stares at you, lips parted, like his brain has fully exited the building.
You sit up. “Why does that freak you out so much?”
Sunoo clears his throat, crosses his legs, and clasps his hands like he's giving a TED talk to himself. “No no I’m fine. Totally calm. Just casually losing my mind that the person I’m in love with just said that.”
You blink. “Wait. What.”
He freezes.
You gape. “You’re in love with me??”
“OH MY GOSH,” he says, loudly, throwing a pillow over his own face. “FORGET I SAID THAT—”
“Nuu!” You pull the pillow away and stare at him, heart pounding.
He groans. “I didn’t mean to blurt it out, okay?! It’s not like I planned to tell you after a garbage date like some B-list plot twist—”
“You’re in love with me?”
He falters, looks at you properly — flushed, anxious, but still so Sunoo.
“…Yeah,” he whispers. “I’ve been in love with you for a while.”
Your chest tightens.
“You… never said anything.”
He gives a tiny, shy shrug. “You were always dating someone. I didn’t want to confuse things. Or ruin us.”
“But you always—” Your voice cracks. “You always take care of me.”
He smiles sadly. “Because I want to. Because you deserve someone who actually shows up when it counts.”
You look at him — really look at him — and suddenly, all the late nights, all the surprise coffee deliveries, all the “I brought your favorite just because” texts make perfect, blinding sense.
And suddenly, this feels like the only real thing you’ve ever known.
“I think…” you whisper, “I’ve been in love with you too. I just didn’t let myself believe it.”
Sunoo blinks, stunned.
“You what?”
“I kept waiting for someone who’d treat me like you do,” you murmur, leaning in. “I just didn’t think that person could be you.”
“Why not?! I’m amazing!”
You laugh through a tear.
He grins, then cups your face with both hands. “You’re an idiot,” he says, but so fondly it makes your stomach flip.
Then, very softly, “Can I kiss you now?”
You nod, heart in your throat.
He kisses you like he’s waited a lifetime — careful, steady, warm. When he pulls away, you’re still smiling.
He brushes your hair behind your ear and whispers, “You’re never going to cry over another date again.”
“Because you’re going to fight them?”
“No.” He grins. “Because you’re done dating losers. You’re dating me now.”
౨ৎ Jungwon - What took you so long
You don’t expect anyone to be waiting when you get home.
Your date was forgettable in the worst way — vague answers, barely-there eye contact, the kind of guy who asked questions only to talk about himself. You left early and walked home alone under a gray sky, the city lights blurred through a curtain of drizzle.
You don’t text anyone. You don’t want to talk. You just want the night to be over.
So when you push open your apartment door and find Jungwon sitting on your couch, hoodie sleeves pulled over his hands and a small box of takeout on his lap, you stop in your tracks.
He looks up casually. “You didn’t answer my texts.”
You blink. “I didn’t know you were coming over.”
“I figured you’d need me.”
The way he says it — need me — sinks under your skin like something dangerous.
You walk in slowly, wet hair dripping onto your shirt, and collapse onto the couch beside him without a word.
“I brought your favorite,” he adds, offering the box. “That noodle thing you get when you’re upset but pretending not to be.”
You take it silently, the warmth of the container grounding you.
He doesn’t ask what happened. He doesn’t have to.
A while later, you’re curled up together under the same blanket, the food half-eaten and a soft playlist humming through the room. You’re both quiet, the way you always are when things get too heavy to name.
You tilt your head toward him.
Jungwon’s watching the rain trail down the window, his profile lit faintly by the glow of the streetlights. One arm rests behind your head, casual but close enough that your shoulders touch. Always close. Always almost.
“You know,” you say softly, “you’d make the perfect boyfriend.”
He blinks.
Then — too quickly — he shifts.
The blanket slips from his shoulder as he moves to set his drink down, knocking over a napkin in the process. He fumbles it. Misses. Swears quietly under his breath.
You blink. “You okay?”
“Fine,” he mumbles. Then, softer, “Just… surprised you’d say that.”
You smile faintly. “Why?”
He doesn’t answer right away. His eyes flick toward yours, unreadable. “Because you’re always chasing guys who aren’t me.”
The words land like a pin dropped in a still room.
You stare. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Jungwon lets out a long breath, then looks at you fully — not shy, not sarcastic, not teasing. Just… honest.
“It means I’ve been here this whole time,” he says quietly. “Watching you get your heart broken over and over and wishing you’d just look at me.”
Your heart lurches.
“Jungwon…”
“I didn’t say anything because I thought maybe you already knew,” he continues, voice barely above a whisper. “But tonight, when you said that—when you said that—I couldn’t not say it anymore.”
You don’t speak. You’re not sure you can.
“I know I’m quiet about how I feel,” he murmurs. “But I show up. I always show up for you. Because I love you. And I’ve been loving you quietly for so long, I don’t know how to stop.”
Something cracks open in your chest.
You reach out, almost without thinking, fingers brushing his wrist. “I think I’ve always loved the way you love me,” you whisper. “I just didn’t realize that’s what it was.”
He exhales shakily.
And then — like gravity pulling him forward — he leans in, resting his forehead against yours. His voice is soft, barely trembling:
“I’ve been yours for a long time.”
You whisper, “Then maybe it’s time I caught up.”
౨ৎ Ni-ki - Not just a phase
The rain has stopped by the time you make it to his place.
You’re soaked anyway — not just from the weather, but from the date that ended in a fight over whether your standards were “too high.”
You didn’t cry this time.
Not until you walked home in the drizzle and realized how tired you were of pretending the bare minimum was enough.
You’re still blinking away the sting when the door swings open.
Ni-ki stands there in a hoodie and pajama pants, hair messy from sleep, one wireless headphone still in. He blinks once. Takes in your face.
Then without a word, he grabs your wrist and pulls you in.
“You look cold,” he mumbles, already guiding you toward the couch. “Sit. I’ll get the fluffy blanket.”
You don’t even argue. You just drop onto the cushions and watch as he disappears down the hall.
You don’t remember when it started—this instinct he has. This quiet caretaking. One second you’re friends who bicker over cereal brands and game scores, and the next he’s handing you tissues without asking. Wrapping you in the same blanket he used to cocoon himself in during movie nights. Like you’ve always belonged here, even if no one ever said it.
Ni-ki returns with the blanket and throws it over your shoulders, his hands lingering for a second too long.
He doesn’t ask what happened.
He just sits beside you, legs sprawled out, staring ahead like he’s waiting for you to speak.
So you do.
“I don’t think I’m cut out for dating.”
He glances at you. “That bad?”
You nod. “It’s like… I want something real. But everyone I meet makes me feel stupid for asking.”
Ni-ki stays quiet for a second.
Then: “They’re the stupid ones.”
You glance over. “What?”
He shrugs. “For not seeing it. For not recognizing you’re the kind of person people should want.”
Your heart stutters.
He doesn’t look at you when he says it. His eyes are on the floor, hands fidgeting with the drawstring of his hoodie.
You laugh weakly. “Why can’t I just date someone like you?”
His whole body stiffens.
You blink. “Ni-ki?”
He moves too fast. Reaches for the glass on the table. Misses. Knocks it over. It clatters loudly — empty, but loud enough to make you jump.
“Shit—” He rushes to grab it. “I—sorry, sorry. I wasn’t expecting—”
“What did I say?” you ask slowly.
He freezes with the glass in his hand. Doesn’t look at you.
You sit up straighter. “Ni-ki.”
He exhales hard, then sets the glass down. “You can’t say stuff like that.”
“Why not?”
“Because it’s not fair.”
You stare. “What do you mean?”
Finally — finally — he turns to you. And his eyes are bare.
Not guarded. Not teasing. Just real.
“Because I’ve spent years trying to convince myself that this—” he gestures between you “—was just a phase. That eventually you’d stop showing up at my place with tears in your eyes. That I’d stop wondering what it would be like to be the one you chose.”
You go silent.
Ni-ki lets out a small laugh, bitter and soft. “But I never got over you. I don’t think I ever will.”
Your throat tightens. “You never said anything.”
“Because I didn’t want to ruin it. I didn’t want to lose you just because I caught feelings first.”
You can’t believe what you’re hearing.
The Ni-ki who made fun of your bad taste in ramen. Who used to walk you home in high school just because. Who showed up at every breakup with your favorite snacks and a movie cued up. That Ni-ki has been in love with you this whole time?
“I didn’t think you’d ever feel the same,” he murmurs.
You whisper, “What if I do?”
He stops breathing.
You reach for his hand, threading your fingers through his — slowly, carefully, like you’re afraid he’ll disappear.
“I think I’ve been trying to find pieces of you in everyone I’ve dated,” you say quietly. “But no one comes close.”
Ni-ki swallows hard. “You’re serious?”
You nod.
The quiet between you stretches — long and full of something new. Something changing.
Then he whispers, “Can I kiss you?”
You nod again.
So he does.
And it’s everything — every unsaid word, every held breath, every day he stood at your side wondering what it would feel like to be wanted back. His hands are gentle. His lips are soft and searching. And when he pulls away, his voice is the quietest it’s ever been.
“I’ve always been yours,” he whispers.

The Passenger (2023) Fic Recs Part 2
This list will include all ratings and tags, so read at your own discretion! :)
Find part 1 here!
Take The Back Seat by twoseas - Rated M
On Benson and Randy Bradley’s longest day, everyone gets to live. Eventually.
Matchmade by Coileddragon - Rated M
Benson Boudreaux is a veteran Jaeger pilot with a 100% kill rate in the Jaeger 'Savage Horizon'. The problem is he never keeps a Drift partner for long.
Man of the world by greendragon19 - Rated T
“You don't call, you don't write.” He crossed his arms over his chest feigning calm. Drawing Benson's attention to him. “And then I have to find out from my brother in law that you're getting released.” A myriad of emotion passed over Bensons features, recognition, annoyance, confusion, acceptance, a few others that Randy wouldn't dare to guess at. “Randy? The fuck are you doing here?” Randy smiled, dipping his head and looking up at Benson through his eyelashes. Something in the pit of his stomach warming at Benson’s voice and Randy’s name being the first thing he said as a free man. Twenty years after the shooting at the diner, Benson is getting out of prison. Randy goes to pick him up. Deals with somewhat more mellow versions of Benson and Randy after so much time has passed but both still equally co-dependent.
images of all that could be desired by pgndaze - Rated T
A week after Benson's death, a package arrives on Randy's doorstep.
Loves me like a dog by Syntheticpalindromes - Rated E
The woman at the school’s reception desk flat out refused to give them anything about Miss Beard, her hands laid on the countertop as she shook her head sadly. Big, plump bottom lip jutting out in what Benson might have known to be real sympathy if he had ever been presented with the emotion in a sincere way. Which he hadn’t. At least, that’s what he imagined, anyway. When she had removed her palms from the counter, the ledger beneath them had become stuck to one, slick with a nervous sweat that she hid all too well in the calm, collected way she had informed the boy she simply couldn’t give that sort of information away. The page was left greasy and she pointedly did not look at it. “And Mr. Bradley, I really think you’re doing the right thing. Good for you.” She had said, like she was his fucking grandmother. They don't make it to Miss Beard's place. Mr Sheppard lies in a pool of his own blood and Benson & Randy drive on, and on, and on, and on, and on.
Razor Sharp, White Teeth by mimomallow - Rated E
“I never watched that Twilight bullshit, Randy. Do you sparkle now or what?” or Randy has been starving since he was a child. Benson looks delicious.
did you get enough love, my little dove? by intheskywithamethysts - Rated E
The mop slapped wetly on the ground and slid across the grimy floor. Benson dug the head into the ground as hard as he could as he mopped. A sound like nails on a chalkboard ricocheted off the walls. It was agonizing to listen to. Benson didn’t care. It was the only thing louder than his thoughts. She’s not sleeping. She’s not sleeping. The sound of a door being pushed open. Two chimes. Footsteps. Benson looked up. “Hey, Benson.” Benson grunted and gave Bradley a nod as he entered. Well, at least he was working with Bradley today. (canon-divergence: Benson's Ma passes away the night before the beginning of the movie)
Side Effects May Include... by thenewgothicromance -Rated E
Listen, normally Benson’s not one to make somebody do drugs they don’t want. But they’re only three hours into the afternoon shift with another five to go, and if Bradley doesn’t chill the fuck out Chris will never stop bothering him. And if Benson has to listen to that all day, again, he is finally going to do something stupid they’ll all regret. It’s easier just to make Bradley take the pills.
Don't Forget the Joker by devovitsuasartes - Rated M
Randy had been driving home for about five minutes when he looked up into his rear view mirror and saw Benson staring back at him coldly from the back seat.
Can’t Help to Smile with those Eyes that Shine on Me (You’re Making Me Act Funny) by hellcat_shalalala - Rated T
"Thank you, Mr. Mustache Man.” She retrieves her blue crayon and scrapes it over the scribble of green she just made. “I’m sorry I dropped them. It was on accident.” A little smile twitches at the corner of his lips. Threatens to spread. He runs his tongue over his teeth to make his lips stop moving like that. “Them things got little legs," Benson continues dragging the mop. "Runnin’ off like that.” She’s delighted by that thought. “Little legs?” She repeats. She grabs one and twists it around trying to look for them. “Where?” He doesn’t respond. Just a laugh through his nose and a mindful push and pull of the mop, sweeping it under the seats. Yea. This is Bradley’s kid all right. or Randy has no babysitter for his four year old daughter, Seraphina, and has to bring her into work for his Saturday shift. His coworkers proceed to lose their minds over this new information. /pos Title is paraphrased lyrics from the song Picture Me Better by Weyes Blood
Doomsday is Close At Hand by riddlerapologist7 - Rated M
Randy’s eyes shoot open, he gasps for breath. He rips the comforter off of his body as he registers where he is: his bedroom. What? He was just at the diner. He could almost smell the greasy stench of the flat top grill mixing with the coppery scent of blood permeating the air. Could he have really dreamed everything that had happened? He reached up to feel his shoulder where he had been shot, where Benson had desperately been clutching to try and keep the blood from spilling out of him. He felt nothing, no wound, no pain, just the smooth skin of his shoulder and the cotton shirt he was wearing. He ran his hand over his chest, feeling his heart beat rapidly beneath his skin.
Ranson time loop au!! I'm not the first to come up with this idea, but this is my take on it :)
Erasure Poem (or, The Narrator Writes the First Draft of the Rest of His Life) by thenewgothicromance - Rated E
Randy almost doesn’t understand how it happened, even though he’s the one who started it. Three weeks ago he’d never had sex with anyone, had never thought about doing it with a guy, didn’t think much about doing it at all. And maybe that means there’s something wrong with him, but he’s not stupid—Benson is into him. And if Randy can use that to keep him calm, keep them on track for a little while, maybe Benson will come back to himself. Will shake off the shock, and tell Randy what the plan is.
Like Splinters Under Your Skin by pissedoffeskimo - Rated M
Maybe Benson doesn’t know exactly where he’s going or how long it’ll be before this whole thing reaches its inevitable, bloody conclusion, but he knows he’s taking Randy with him. (Canon divergent from Miss Beard's house)
cold blue summer by visceravalentines - Rated E
Elliot Sheppard, a third-grade teacher at Central Elementary, abused children for many years before being exposed and taking his own life. Now, twenty years later, the school is being demolished, and something has awakened.... Strap in for the cruelest summer on record. An homage to classic slasher movies with a summer romance flair.
the driver by visceravalentines - Rated T
They’re about 50 miles over the Missouri border when Benson asks him. “You think you could drive, man?”
Or, Benson trusts Randy to take the wheel so he can get some sleep, and Randy spends the night thinking about Benson.

Seeing Red [Bob Reynolds x enhanced!F reader]
Summary: A spontaneous moment of breaking and entering at the newly-inhabited Watchtower leads to a chance encounter between yourself and a mysterious man named Bob. One touch and he knows your darkest secret, but instead of turning you in, Bob claims you're "one of us". Can the uncontrollable power within you help you find where you truly belong, and along the way, perhaps lead you to the love of your life?
Warnings: child abuse, SA (vague mention), mention of self harm and food insecurity. Drug use. Mental illness. Homelessness. Eventual smut.
Song Inspiration: The Red by Chevelle
Author’s note: Holy shit, I’m just as surprised as anyone that the inspiration came and I grabbed hold of it with enough motivation to write it. 😅 I’m so stoked about this series. Thunderbolts has fueled my previously dormant Marvel love exponentially. And my newly discovered love for a character named Bob. I hope you’ll love him in this story like I do.
How to be notified of new chapters:
-- Follow me on AO3 and bookmark if you like what you read
-- Follow me on Wattpad or bookmark I guess? I forget. 😅
-- Follow my reblog only account here on Tumblr @aoyhfic-reblogs and turn on notifications (I will only reblog new chapters there once)
I'll be posting here on Tumblr first, since I can schedule those beforehand. Posting to AO3 and Wattpad usually happens same day but later on.
I do have an ancient Marvel tag list that I might add on here just so my peeps know I'm not dead. 🤪 And surprise! I'm writing again. I will not be adding to that tag list, however, Only those listed above are ways of notification.
I'm super excited about this story and I'm nervous/excited about posting fan fiction again cause it's been a whiiiiiile and I feel like things have shifted in a lot of ways. I dunno.
Please let me know if this character and/or this story piques your interest and once I start posting it, comments and feedback are very much appreciated. 😅 Also I have a Lewis Pullman-centric sideblog cause I'm OBSESSED so if you wanna freak out with me gimme a follow at @lewis-bob-rhett 🤓
To my OG Marvel friends, if you've stuck it out with me, thank you. I adore you. If I've tagged you and you do not wish to continue to be tagged, please let me know. Also let me know if your username has changed.

oh also more mha updates
i…… i like monoma. he’s so Real to me
izuku and all might are dead fucking wrong if you think about it for more than two seconds, and it only makes me double down on my belief that if i were katsuki i’d have been so much worse
denki <3 my absolute beloved baby girl
i have feelings for kirishima i absolutely do he is sooooo earnest and darling
i said i didn’t care for dabi and in some ways i don’t but also i do. he’s kinda funny. the rest of the league is really annoying to me tho and i couldn’t care less about their sob stories and why they think their villainry is valid
in particular i find shigaraki and toga extremely annoying
endeavor really is such a bitch i had no idea this man was so terrible
it’s so cute how nezu is always in aizawa’s scarf
it’s kind of sad how aizawa seems to be the only teacher/adult to see through katsuki. everyone else teases him and makes light of him being a grump but he’s been through so much shit and still persists and then he gets called aggressive and intense in his pursuit of what he wants. and to top it all off he’s being gaslight by his favorite hero and deku… man. i want everybody to leave him alone
when is shinsou coming back i miss him
#mie watches mha#like…. individually i begrudgingly find izuku endearing#but in the context of everything going on he is so wrong 😭😭😭 and so is all might#i fear my love for katsuki stems from the fact that i would have done what he did and way worse if k we#if i were in his shoes*#dabi is still annoying dont get me wrong but he’s much less annoying compared to the rest of the league who irritate the hell out of me#but when i write him into shoto fics i love him LOL#like?? he gets kidnapped bc of deku and him having ofa and they both act like keeping it a secret is for his benefit/their sake???#when he’s one repeatedly being blamed for the shit that happens to their class/school#idk. idkidkidkidk. he’s better than me bc i would have joined the league just to crashout#he really does have a heart of gold man#bc the way they keep setting him up to be some kinda villain figure and he pointedly has his eyes set on being a hero#and don’t get me wrong i like izuku but it’s so easy to see that compared to the rest of the class he’s extremely immature#he has the ideals and the courage to want to be a hero but it’s kinda extremely unfair that he’s given the same shot and way more grace than#everyone else bc it’s clear he doesn’t actually have the frame of mind to act effectively#in the same way the others who have been training/using their quirks have#not that he can’t be trained to succeed like they can bc he has the drive and intellect#but it’s no shock that other ua students wouldn’t like the hero course students bc of the attention they get from villains#and in particular how/bc of izuku. and yeah i get that afo would have turn up eventually anyway#but i would hold so much resentment towards deku knowing he basically snuck into the hero courde#then lied about his quirk to everybody including his teacher while everybody else felt the physical and mental repercussions of him#acting but not knowing how to control his power#and to his credit he’s doing the best he can but he’d probably do better faster if other people weren’t lied to about his quirk 😭#that’s still pookie tho… like he’s wrong but i’ll allow it 🫶

Hey! Your writing is amazing! I’ve been checking daily for new fics lmao
I was wondering if your requests were open would you be able to write some angst with a happy ending w/ Peanut?
Perhaps a Shy!Reader who has flirty banter with Logan. They’re on a mission and Logan has to make a quick decision on who to save — Reader or Jean and he saves Jean without thinking. Reader ends up surviving with a few injuries but her and Logan’s relationship starts to deteriorate. Logan’s not good with verbal apologies so he does acts of service — bringing reader food/drinks etc. reader is stubborn and Logan starts to get frustrated. He eventually proves himself to reader.
I’m sorry if this is confusing!! I’m not creative enough to write it myself and you’re really really skilled. Love your work x
Tumblr media Tumblr media
a/n: I read this request and then read them together and my brain imploded because I loved it so much, no smut in this one Summary: Logan saves Jean on a mission and it's the wake-up call you desperately needed to understand that you will never be her. You can't stand to look at him anymore and he doesn't understand why you've stopped talking to him.
Tumblr media
“What’re you thinking of doing after this?”
You shrug, leaning back on the uncomfortable bench seats and looking over at Logan. “Not sure, got any plans?”
Logan smirks and you immediately know whatever he’s about to say is going to send you spiraling. “Yeah, whatever you’re doing, sweetheart.”
Oh. My. God!
You know you’ve got it bad when something as simple as that has you swooning. It’s so easy to fall into this routine with him, to pretend you’re more suave than you actually are. Despite your usual tendency to fade into the background, you find it nearly impossible to do with him.
Where someone else might let you stay quiet and go ignored, he seeks you out. He makes you feel seen and heard. Some days you don’t know if you appreciate it or despise it. You laugh a little, trying to hide just how affected by him you are. “Sounds good, Lo.”
He smiles and leans back on the seat, his arm coming around the back to rest lightly over your shoulders. You can tell from the look on Storm’s face that she’s trying not to laugh at you. You can’t blame her, you’re sure your eyes have tripled in size and you look absolutely stunned.
Flirting isn’t out of the usual for you and him. Lately, though, he’s upped the game. Touching you more than usual, spending more one-on-one time together. You can feel it all building up to something. You’re shy, not stupid, you know when a guy’s going to ask you out.
But it feels like he’s dragging it out longer than necessary like he’s enjoying teasing you a little too much.  “Alright,” Scott stands up and moves towards the back of the jet. “We’re almost there, get ready.”
You, very reluctantly, pull away from Logan and get to your feet. He walks past you, briefly squeezing your hand before joining Scott by the ramp. You grin, flexing your hand by your side and trying to memorize the feeling.
The ramp lowers to the ground and Scott and Logan lead the way out. You’re expecting this to be simple. Stake out the area, find some information about the people running the warehouse, and figure out what exactly it is that they’ve been doing.
The air is bursting with moisture. It’s suffocating, how humid it is, how it makes the material of your suit cling to your skin. You know the rest of the team can feel it. That it’s irritating them just as much.
None of you want to be out here in the peak of summer, trying to be stealthy in these ridiculous costumes. Your thighs squeak every time they rub together. It’s beyond embarrassing. You know that that’s what has you all distracted.
You’re struggling through ankle-deep mud and sweating buckets. So none of you are paying any particular attention to the area around you. Technically, you shouldn’t have to, you’re still about a mile out from where you need to be.
You duck, hands coming up to cover your ears as Charles’ voice screams through your mind. It’s a trap!
Even with the warning, there’s no time to prepare. The ground around you explodes, grass and dirt flying through the air. Logan grabs your arm, he shoves himself in front of you and takes the brunt of the bullets. Splatters of blood hits your cheeks and he runs you both behind a tree for cover.
The other three have all found their own cover and they’re struggling to figure out where the shots are coming from. You spot something in the underbrush and scream, “Behind you!”
It’s more of a warning to duck than it is to move. You throw your hands up, shoving the man away from them and sending him flying into the trunk of a tree. You swear you can hear the snap of his spine as it hits the bark.
You look to Jean and nod towards the small clearing of trees. “Don’t,” Logan warns. But you’re already slipping out of his grip and solidifying the air in front of you. It provides enough of a cover, absorbing the bullets, and giving you all time to figure out a plan of attack.
Jean moves beside you, eyes narrowing on the perimeter of your cover. “There are too many of them, more than I can count.”
“How did they know we were coming?” Scott snaps, keeping an eye on the area behind you.
Your arms struggle under the weight of your power. The more bullets they shoot into your cover, the harder it is to keep up. You’re forced to absorb their energy, push it out tenfold to try and keep the blockage solidified.
“Guys,” you snap, “we need a plan. I can’t hold it much longer.” You grit your teeth, taking a step forward to try and push against the strain. It does nothing but make your bones ache. Logan shoots you a concerned glance, coming up behind you like he wants to take the weight off your shoulders. But there’s nothing he can do.
There’s movement behind you, a boot snapping a twig in two. You can’t risk looking back but you can hear the worry in Jean’s voice. “Ten of them-”
You can tell by the sounds of their movement that the others don’t give her much of a chance to finish. Ororo, Scott, and Logan all shoot forward to deal with the threat. Ten isn’t much to worry about. But that doesn’t change the fact that the men in front of you haven’t let up and you’re about to weep from the weight of keeping the wall up.
Jean stays beside you, brows furrowed in concern. She places her hand on your shoulder and closes her eyes. A second later you feel something like a cool blanket laid over you. The tension in your arms and core eases just enough for you to stop clenching your jaw so hard. Some of the strain eases away and you know she’s sharing it with you.
But just as quickly as the relief was given, it’s yanked away. Jean jumps back with a gasp, “Flux, we need to move!”
“I can’t,” you shout, fighting to be heard over the sound of bloodshed and gunshots going off in front of and behind you. The others are steadily moving through the people surrounding you, but their numbers are still overwhelming. “It’ll all come crashing down,” you tell her.
She glances towards the bullets, finally spotting the way they’re slowly, but steadily, moving through the thickened air. The second you let go you’ll be riddled with holes. “Shit,” she hisses. “Look, we can’t stay here much longer-”
She’s cut off by a loud bang. You’re so disoriented by the noise your hands drop to your sides. At the same moment, you hear wood splintering and cracking beside you. What has to be the largest tree in the forest creaks before it begins its descent down towards you both.
You don’t what happened, or what they used, but it doesn’t matter. The wall in front of you is fading. You have seconds to get out of the way of the bullets and the tree, you’re not sure either of you is going to make it.
“Jean!” There’s a flash of brown hair and Jean’s being tackled to the ground, safely out of the way of the tree and bullets. You feel something stinging against your shoulder and know the first bullet’s made its way through.
You also see the tree is almost over top of you. You’ve always been a fight response in flight or fight scenarios. But when there’s nothing to fight, when you have nothing to go up against, you freeze. It’s horrible, you know it, but there’s nothing you can do about it.
Even as you’re desperately screaming at yourself to just fucking move, all you can do is watch as the tree topples down on top of you. “Flux, duck!” The words trigger something in your brain just soon enough to drop to the ground.
Scott releases a red beam, blasting through the tree and knocking it off course. You don’t even register the smell of burning flesh as you lay in the mud. Your blood is rushing so fast in your veins, there’s so much adrenaline pumping through you, you can’t focus on anything except the sound of your heartbeat.
You let out a breath of relief, slowly lifting yourself up to your knees. You don’t hear any more fighting and you figure whoever they hadn’t taken down before, the beam took care of the rest.
You look down, checking yourself for any bullet holes or serious damage but you can’t find anything. Something warm trickles down your shoulder, it drips across your arm and down your hand.
You look at the blood curiously, it seems to steady a flow from the simple bullet graze you’d had earlier. “Oh my god,” Jean whispers your name and you turn around with a concerned look.
You want to ask her what’s wrong but your eyes are trained on the way Logan’s arms are bracketing her. He’s practically on top of her, only now getting up to check on you. You get it, it was a stressful situation, he acted fast.
But that doesn’t make it any easier to swallow the lump in your throat. It doesn’t ease the burn of betrayal. He saved her, not you. He chose her even though she doesn’t want him. The anger you’re feeling only makes it harder to be aware of your surroundings.
It’s not until Scott kneels behind you a presses a gentle hand against your back that you lurch forward with a loud cry. The pain slams down on you all at once. The wind blowing gently against your back feels like someone’s dug razor blades in your skin and ripped.
Feet rush towards you, someone kneeling beside you and grabbing your shoulders. Logan forces you up and makes you look at him before his gaze turns to your back. “What the fuck did you do?” He practically growls, lunging towards Scott.
He grabs him by the collar and shoves him into the dirt. Ororo and Jean leap forward, trying unsuccessfully to rip him off. You try and keep your eyes open, try and stay focused. The pain is too much, you don’t want to be awake for this anymore. Every nerve on your back feels like it’s being forcefully exposed and plucked at.
Your brain forces a shutdown and you slump into the mud, the world going black.
Tumblr media
When you wake up, you’re on your stomach. You’re a little dazed, not fully remembering how you got here. You try and sit up but there’s a steady grip around your wrists stopping you. “Don’t move,” Jean warns from somewhere behind you.
You try and look for her but you can’t move much. Your head feels like it weighs a hundred pounds, stuck to the pillow beneath you. “What happened? Why can’t I move?”
Her shoes appear in front of you and then she’s kneeling down, a slightly worried look on her face. “We needed to make sure you didn’t roll over in your sleep.” Her brows crinkle and she frowns, “You don’t remember?” You shake your head minutely. She sighs, lifting her hand to your face and pressing her chilled fingers to your temple.
The images rush towards you. You see it all from her eyes. The way Logan had grabbed her and thrown her to the ground, checking over her and not once looking at you. How Scott had tried to stop the tree from breaking your spine. His beam had just barely grazed your back as you had ducked. But it was enough for there to be serious damage.
Through her view, you can see the way your skin had bubbled up and blistered. How horribly damaged it was. You have limited healing abilities, but it was enough to stop the nerves from being permanently damaged.
She lets you go and you groan, the pain slowly registering in your brain. It’s dulled and you don’t know if they’ve given you drugs or if your abilities are still working to help you. “How’s Scott?”
She chuckles and shakes her head while she undoes the restraints around your wrist. “He feels awful. He keeps coming by to check on you.”
The thought of him sitting beside you while you were strapped down to the bed makes you feel a little bad. It wasn’t his fault, he’d helped you. It was more than Logan had done for you.
You frown, hating yourself for being bitter. If he hadn’t helped, Jean might not be here next to you. He had saved your friend. The thought didn’t bring much comfort, though. “I’m not mad at him.”
Jean eases you onto your knees and slowly helps you sit up. It causes minimal pain, but it’s still uncomfortable enough to grit your teeth and dig your nails into your palms. “I know, but he’ll probably be coming down here a lot to check on you.”
You almost ask her if anyone else has visited. If Logan had, but you don’t think her answer would make you feel any better. “He did,” she tells you and you click your tongue in irritation.
“Out of my head,” you warn. She releases you with a small grin. “I don’t care,” you tell her, trying to appear nonchalant.
She tilts her head, eyes narrowing on you. “Yes, you do. And I don’t need telepathy to know.” She walks towards your IV bag, fiddling around with something on the line. “He was here whenever he could be, practically lived beside you.”
“Don’t care,” you tell her again, but there’s less conviction this time.
Jean frowns and you hate how guilty she looks. It’s not her fault he’s desperately in love with her and not you. You can’t force someone to love you or choose you. And you don’t want to. You want someone to love you for who you are, not because they couldn’t have their first choice.
“Don’t,” you say lowly. “Don’t apologize, it’s not your fault.”
She doesn’t get a chance to say anything before the door bursts open, both Logan and Scott sliding into your room. Scott lets out a relieved breath when he sees you. He breathes out your name and approaches with a guilty smile, “You’re awake.”
“Charles told us,” Logan informs. You offer him a brief glance before diverting your attention to Scott.
Petty, you’re aware. But you don’t want to see Logan right now. You’d put so much effort and time into your friendship with him. It doesn’t even matter if he doesn’t feel the same way about you. You two are best friends, and he didn’t even try to help you when you needed him the most.
So, you smile at Scott. You forgive him and you tell him you're fine. You chat with him and Jean while Logan just stares at you from the other side of your bed. You can’t make yourself face him. You don’t want to look at him, it makes you sick to your stomach.
Eventually, Scott’s guilt is slightly assuaged and he and Jean leave for the night. Logan is a heavy presence beside you, one you no longer can ignore. You shift around, pretending to fluff your pillows until he grabs your hand.
“What’re you doing?”
You look at his hand and then at him. Whatever look is on your face is enough for him to release you and back off. “Getting comfortable,” you spit out, more venom in your voice than necessary. Something clicks for him, you can see it as it happens.
He backs up and narrows his eyes down at you. “Right.” He frowns and sucks on his teeth, nodding his head silently. “I’ll come back when you’re feeling a little better.” You don’t miss the hidden dig underneath it all, the way he’s calling out you’re unusual behavior.
“I think that’d be best.”
He scoffs and shakes his head, slamming the door behind him as he leaves. You jump at the noise and it makes you hiss as a twinge of pain shoots down your spine. You feel slightly guilty about the whole interaction. Then, you remember the way he’d been cradling Jean and you feel slightly vindicated.
You’re sure he doesn’t even give a shit. He’s probably pouting in his room, wishing Jean was in bed beside him.
Tumblr media
What the fuck?
It’s all that’s been playing through Logan’s head since he returned from your room in the medbay. He’s waited days for you to wake up, so he can finally take a breath and let go of the anxiety that’s been plaguing him.
He’d thought that he’d lost you in that forest. When he’d gone for Jean, he’d assumed you’d just be able to use your powers to knock the tree out of your path. Or make it melt around you.
Honestly, he can’t put a finger on what exactly he was thinking. But he knew that you could protect yourself and that would be your priority. So he’d moved without really thinking and grabbed the person who would be collateral damage if your powers went haywire.
And then you hadn’t saved yourself and all he could smell was your burning flesh. The smell has been stuck in his nose since you were brought back to the mansion. He can’t escape it. Everywhere he goes, he sees you burning and hears your screams.
He’d thought that you were dead and there was a moment where he genuinely was so lost he could do nothing but watch as the others swarmed you. He couldn’t move, couldn’t help you. He could only stare at your still body and pray to anybody who could hear him that you weren’t dead.
He didn’t know what he would do if he lost you before he ever got a chance to love you.
He’d, irritatingly, imagined all the different ways he would finally tell you how he felt when you woke up. He’d prepared himself for every possible reaction, except this one. He hadn’t expected you to reject him before he ever got the chance to confess.
Anger stews within him as he paces through his room. He knows that it’s unfair to be upset with you. You’d gone through something horrific and there had been doubts about your recovery. Of course, you’d act off.
Except, you only seemed to be directing that at him. Had you been just as dismissive to Scott, the person who actually hurt you, he would have looked past it. He’s tempted to go back down and see you again, maybe try and make you see some sense.
Instead, he decides to give you both some time to calm down. He doesn’t want to do anything he might regret while he’s pissed off. He’ll see you tomorrow and, hopefully, you’ll be back to normal.
Tumblr media
You’d thought Logan might have gotten the hint with how you behaved earlier. That was not the case. He’s back today and you can smell the breakfast food he’s brought you. The smell is wafting deliciously from an inconspicuous brown bag.
But you know it’s from the restaurant that’s twenty minutes out of his way. You’re not petty enough that you can’t appreciate the forty-minute round trip he’d taken for you, but you still aren’t excited to see him.
“Hey, sweetheart,” he smiles at you despite your clearly hostile energy. He tugs the chair towards your bed, ripping open the bag and pulling out enough food for the both of you.
You think it should be considered a form of manipulation to call you that while you’re pissed at him. He has such a clear effect on you. You know he’s aware of it. He knows that when he calls you something sweet like that it makes your heart race and stomach flip.
You turn your gaze towards your blanket. You pretend the thread pattern is the most interesting thing in the world so you don’t have to look at him. You’re sick of giving your all to men who couldn’t care less about you.
You’re tired of being the second, third, fourth choice. You want someone to choose you first for once. And you genuinely thought Logan would be the man to do that. But he’d chosen Jean. You should have known.
“Alright,” he huffs, crossing his arms and glaring at you. You’re pissed off that he’s acting like he’s the one who was hurt. “What the hell is your problem? You’ve never been this mad at me before.”
It’s his tone of voice that really grates on you. He genuinely does not understand what he’s done wrong. He doesn’t even comprehend the possibility that you might be mad he left you to die. Have you really become such a doormat?
Yes, you’re shy and generally reserved with the people you meet. But he is so different. You two met and it was an instant connection that you thought was reciprocated. You hadn't realized that you'd become so complacent in the relationship he thought he could get away with something like this with no repercussions.
“You left me to die,” you snap at him, voice taking a pitch it never has before. You’ve never truly gotten angry at him. Pissed off sometimes when he teased you a little too much. But you’d never plainly shown anger at him. “You fucking left me behind and expect me to, what,” you scoff and shove the food back towards him.
“You think some shitty breakfast is going to fix this?” His face contorts. It screws up into something like hurt and you worry you might have been too harsh. He doesn’t know how you feel about him. He doesn’t know that this would hurt you so bad.
But, it doesn’t matter. You’re still his friend. You should have at least warranted a little concern.
Just as quickly as it appeared, the hurt is washed away by his own anger. “I thought you could take care of yourself. Isn’t that what you’re always bitching at us about?”
If you weren’t so upset you might find it funny how quickly the two of you turned on each other. Clearly, there was something repressed between the two of you. Some brewing resentment that neither of you had ever acknowledged. The words are coming quickly now, without thought.
“Fuck you, Logan,” you snap back at him. “You didn’t give a shit whether I lived or died. You only cared about your precious Jean.” You spit out her name with so much venom it stings as it leaves your tongue.
He laughs, getting out of his chair. He shakes his head and glares at you. His anger is always a physical thing. You know he’s pacing so he doesn’t do something worse, like destroy the entirety of the room.
“That’s what this is, you’re jealous? Don’t blame your fucking incompetence on me.” You hate the way he’s speaking to you. Like you’re a little girl who's incapable of understanding even the most basic of concepts. He has such a patronizing look on his face, you want nothing more than to wipe it off.
The tables beside you tremble, the vases of flowers rattling against the wood. “I’m your friend, Logan. You could at least pretend like you cared about me.”
He leans against the end of the bed, tilting himself forward until he’s aggressively imposing your space. You shrink back against the pillows, narrowing your eyes in disdain. “Don’t fucking pull that shit with me. I knew that your priority would be to save yourself and I acted accordingly. This wasn’t some goddamn ploy to get into Jean’s pants. Grow the fuck up, Flux!”
You flinch back at the volume of his voice. Unwillingly, tears pool in the corners of your eyes. It’s an involuntary response. Sometimes you just get so enraged that you have no other way to get rid of it than to cry. It’s infuriating to see the moment someone stops taking you seriously and starts to think you’re nothing more than a crybaby.
Logan’s face pales and he winces, backing away from you. “I didn’t-”
“Enough,” you stop him, voice thick with unshed tears. He never calls you by your X-men name, it’s an unspoken agreement between the two of you. That’s a formality reserved for the other members. To each other, you’re nothing more than two people who care deeply for one another.
Or, you had been. Before this one moment had blown your life and your back up.
“I appreciate how much faith you have in my abilities, but the fact that your first instinct wasn’t even to protect me says a lot.” You take in a deep breath and shake your head. “Thanks for the breakfast, but can you please just leave?”
He looks like he doesn’t want to. You know he doesn’t want to leave. You two never fight like this. Even if there wasn’t a lot said, it’s still not normal for you. Maybe that should have been your first hint that things weren’t what you thought.
It’s healthy to fight, to a certain extent. Sometimes it's needed. You two never have before and you know it’s just been brewing for a while, waiting to blow up. “I-”
“Get out,” you shout, and the tables beside you finally crumble under the weight of your emotions. They drip to the ground in an inorganic form of liquid wood. “Shit,” you hiss, glancing over at them. You wave your hand and they return to their normal state, but it doesn’t matter. You shouldn’t have lost control at all.
The door slams and you look up to find the room empty. You sink back against your bed and run your hands over your face. You ignore the way the skin of your back screams in protest.
You embrace the pain, the fiery shocks running up your nerves as the bandages chafe against the wounds. You focus on that instead of how things have ended with Logan. You always had such high hopes that he might be the one you finally man up and confess to.
You should have known you were wrong. You should have known that it would never have ended with him picking you over her.
Tumblr media
You’re permitted to leave the medbay the next day. You don’t see or hear from Logan for the following week. You can’t confirm if he’s purposefully avoiding you or not but you have to believe he is. You both live in the same hall. You don’t know how it’s possible to have gone this long without even catching a slight glimpse of him.
You force yourself to suffocate the part of you that misses him. You picture the side of yourself that longs for his presence and imagine shoving a pillow over her face. You don’t want to ache and cry over someone who doesn’t give two shits about you.
You keep reminding yourself over and over again that when things got rough he showed you his true colors. But it’s more difficult than you imagined to just completely disregard so much history with him.
Besides, you hadn’t realized just how little you interacted with the others until Logan was out of your daily life. It’s so difficult for you to bond with people that when you’d connected with Logan you’d latched onto him.
It’s a little pathetic, honestly. Being grown and eating lunch alone because you only had one friend. You wonder if your feelings for him were genuine or born from a desperation not to be alone. You don’t let yourself linger on the question for long.
It’s as your training with the students that you finally see him again.
“Has he made much progress yet?”
Jean shakes her head and purses her lips. She watches as Billy, one of the newer students, struggles with the logs in front of him. He was a firestarter, a very inexperienced one who had only ever set his curtains on fire.
His powers were more focused on the mental aspect of things rather than the physical. Which is why you and Jean were in charge of helping him. He couldn’t start anything on his own, he only really seemed to be able to activate the ability when he was emotionally stimulated.
That meant whenever he was mad or sad, or anything in between, everyone in a fifty-foot radius was in danger. He was a risk to the other students and you were both trying to be gentle with him. But you’d been working with him for so long and there was so little progress. It felt like he wasn’t trying sometimes.
He’d asked Rogue out a week ago and when she’d said no, her hair had caught on fire. You know he could have been hurt and lashed out without thought or malice behind it. But you’d seen the look in his eye.
You’re fifty percent sure he knows exactly what he’s doing. This little act he puts on is just to get himself out of trouble. You hadn’t brought the issue to Charles yet because you’re trying to give him the benefit of the doubt.
“Billy,” you call out. His head whips up and he sends you a vicious glare. You can’t help the sneer on your lips. “Just take a deep breath and try again. There’s nothing wrong with struggling, we all did.”
You put on your normal teacher voice, calm and collected. Assuring. But the little shit in front of you isn’t buying it for a second. He gives you a sarcastic little grin, “Right. Sorry, I forgot you’re a fuck-up just like me.”
“Billy!” Jean snaps, taking a step forward to reprimand him. She doesn’t get far before there’s a fireball shooting out of his palms and hurtling towards the both of you.
There’s no chance to react before something slams into your side and is tossing you to the ground. Your head nearly snaps against the grass but there’s a hand underneath your skull softening the blow.
You smell something smoking and look up to see a large scorch mark right where you’d just been. Jean’s standing over it, palm outstretched as she keeps the fire subdued. She gives you a worried look, “Are you okay?”
Surprisingly, yes. You glance up to see Logan hovering over you. He backs off when he notices you’re okay, getting to his knees and offering you a hand. Wordlessly, you slip your palm into his and let him help you into a sitting position.
“You alright,” his hand hovers over your shoulder like he wants to pull you closer. But he resists, backing off and waiting for your answer. You nod your head, still a little dazed from the failed assassination attempt.
He narrows his eyes, searching your face for any sign of head trauma. When he’s properly assured you’re okay he jumps to his feet. “Billy!” His voice booms across the courtyard and it’s the first time you’ve ever seen that little asshole scared.
He’s barely on his feet before Logan is stalking towards him, jerking him forward by the scruff of his neck and dragging him towards the mansion. “We need to have a little talk,” the tone of his voice has you a little scared and you’re not even the one he’s mad at.
Jean walks towards you and helps you to your feet. “Is your back okay?”
“Yeah,” you nod and brush your clothes off. You have to physically shake the shock of what happened off. “Yeah, I’m fine. I can’t believe he did that.”
Jean scoffs and glares towards Billy’s back. Your eyes widen in shock when you see the large scorch mark across his arm. “Jean! He got you, are you okay?”
She glances down at her shirt and frowns. “Yeah, practically a sunburn.” She gives you a reassuring smile, “I’ll be fine.”
As shitty as this sounds, you’re not concerned for her. You can only focus on the fact that she was in just as much danger as you and Logan had tackled you to the ground. You glance back towards the mansion, more fucking confused than ever.
You’re not sure what compels you to follow Logan, but you’re running after him before Jean can stop you. He’s barely got a minute headstart on you, you’re not sure why you can’t find him. You’d gone through every inch of the first floor.
You don’t know where he would have dragged Billy, but it’s nowhere you can find. After about ten minutes of looking for him, you give up on the hope that you’re ever going to figure out what’s happening inside his brain.
You let out a defeated sigh, running a hand over your face and trying to shake off the funk of the day. You can’t believe that little shit tried to roast you. You’re not comfortable with the fact that he’s just roaming around inside the mansion somewhere.
You turn out of the living room and nearly slam into someone. His hands shoot out, grabbing your shoulders and gently stopping you. “Logan,” you give him a strained smile. “I was looking for you.” You glance over his shoulder and frown. “Where’s Billy?”
Logan sighs, his hands linger on your arms for a moment before he takes a step back. “Wheels got to him before I could do anything.”
You laugh a little, the noise involuntary. “What were you planning on doing with the sixteen-year-old?”
He doesn’t find the question amusing if his expression is anything to go by. “He was really trying to hurt you.”
His words sober you up slightly and you drop the flippant attitude. “Yeah, I wanted to,” god, it feels like you could choke on the words. Just last week you were screaming at him for not helping you. Now, you could barely thank him because he had.
“You’re always my priority.” He tells you before you can struggle any longer. Your head shoots up and you stare at him with confusion. He groans, the noise tired and resigned. “Saving Jean was a mistake. I mean it, kid, I just thought you could handle yourself.”
You open your mouth but he stops you before you can argue. “I know, that’s not the point. I should have saved you, no matter what I thought you could or couldn't handle.”
“No,” you stop him and shake your head. “No, Logan, I shouldn’t. I,” your mouth opens and he stares at you expectantly. What you were going to say gets stuck in your throat. This is a horrible idea.
“I liked you in a way you didn’t like me and it was unfair of me to push my expectations onto you.” You wanted it to sound better, and more intelligent. Instead, it came out in one rushed breath and you’re not sure he even understood half of what you said.
His brows furrow in confusion for a moment before a smile breaks out on his face. You’re not sure if it’s a good or bad thing that he’s smiling. You can’t tell if he’s mocking you or about to profess his undying love.
You don’t have to wonder for long. He moves closer towards you, leaning forward until you’re practically sharing the same breaths. Unconsciously, you’re drawn into him, hands braced gently on his chest as you chase after him.
“What are you doing?” Your whispered words brush against his lips and he gives you a small smile. His hands travel up your waist. He tugs you closer, his other hand looping around your neck and craning you up.
“I’m gonna choose you every fucking time, kid.” His lips brush across your own and it’s like a switch is flipped in you both. Your arms twine around his neck, pulling him down until you’re practically melting into him.
It’s everything you’ve ever wanted and so different at the same time. You always thought your first kiss would be after some cheesy first date. He would have taken you out to dinner. Something would have inevitably gone wrong, you spilled something on your dress or the waiter brought the wrong order.
You would both worry that it was a sign that nothing would work out between you. And then, at the end of the night, he’d tug you into his arms and kiss you like you were the most precious thing he’d ever held.
That would be nice, but this is better. He’s not holding you like you’re something fragile or something too precious for this world. He’s kissing you like you’re the very air he needs to survive. He’s greedy with his affections and demanding with his wants.
You’re being consumed and devoured. And you never want to stop. This is all you’ve ever wanted with him, from him.
Sadly, you do have to breathe. You’re the one that forces the stop, you’re sure he would have happily suffocated if it meant he could keep touching you like this. You pull back, the air coming in short pants between your parted lips.
You can already feel them swelling, the slight irritation on your cheeks from his stubble. You don’t mind, you quite like the feeling. He speaks before you can, a pleased smile on his face. “Forgive me yet?”
You chuckle, a little impressed by how cheeky he is, still slightly pissed off. “Why don’t you do that again and I’ll think about it?”
He rolls his eyes but you can see the smile fighting against his firm glare. “You’re really gonna make me work for it, huh?”
You smile and nod, leaning into him again. “You’re never gonna hear the end of it,” you whisper before dipping down and kissing him again. You can’t believe you ever doubted just how much he cares for you.
He didn’t choose Jean over you. He’s just a dumbass.

a/n: I had to resist putting in a “pick me, choose me, love me” line in there bc that would have just been too much lol

Hi!! I saw that you write for Arcane and had a really cute idea for Vander. I don’t really see a lot of fics where you get to see Vander’s reactions to the reader either playing with the kids or comforting them, so I thought a fic centered around that might be cute? (I think also having a bit of slow burn would be sweet, like both Vander and the reader like each other but don’t do anything about it until getting a little push from the kids because they ship).
ONE LITTLE PUSH

JUST IN TIME (kind of) FOR SEASON TWO, LETS GOOOOO
__________________________________________________________________________
Vander wasn’t quite sure why you stuck around for so long.
In fact, he wasn’t sure why you stuck around in the first place.
But… As Vander watches you with the kids. His kids. He begins to understand why.
You were kind, unyieldingly so. Even as Mylo grew to start picking on Powder, even as they fought, you were kind and patient and offered them the unending gentle love they all so craved.
The love he couldn’t afford to give them because who could be gentle in the Undercity? Especially in the depths of the Lanes?
You could.
Tumblr media
Vander was in the middle of pouring a drink when Powder tumbled into The Last Drop. She was covered in bruises and dust from something. Or someone. She barely met his gaze as she clambered to her feet and all but sprinted into the back where they all slept. Vander looked through the multitude of customers and spotted you.
You had obviously seen Powder go bolting, worry twisting your face as you glanced toward the bar and met his stare. You arched an eyebrow, and he shrugged. You rolled your eyes and sighed before smiling in jest and getting up from where you had been tinkering with the jukebox.
Vander finally manages to get away from his chatty clients and makes his way back into the back room nearly fifteen minutes later.
Only to pause by the door.
“—ylo hates me! He does, I swear!” Powder cries, and you hush her gently, dabbing what looks to be some of the antiseptic you have lying around on her cuts and bruises. Disinfectant was hard to come by, especially in the Lanes, but you were seemingly magic in the sense that you always knew who to talk to to get some. It seems you had worked your magic yet again.
“Did Mylo say that he hates you?” You ask gently, whispering a quiet “sorry” under your breath as she flinched with the sting of the antiseptic.
Powder pauses, thinking what had to be her earlier conversation over,
“Well… No…” She mumbles, and you hum,
“Can I give you my honest opinion?” You ask, and she stills, looking up at you with wide eyes before nodding.
“Aren’t you always honest with us?” She asks. You chuckle at that.
“I suppose I am. But I don’t think Mylo hates you. Does he find you a bit annoying? Maybe. But every big brother thinks that about their younger siblings. I know mine did.” You say, and Powder mulls your words over and over and over in her mind.
She always did overthink things.
“I didn't know you had a big brother.” She says eventually, and you let out a loud laugh at that.
“You are a silly girl for focusing on that. But yes, I came from a big family. And guess what? I was the baby of the family. Just. Like. You.” You say, emphasizing your words with a pinch to her side. Powder squeals with laughter and wriggles away to escape your dastardly tickling.
Vander hangs his head with a huff and a smile before turning to head back to the bar counter. He can hear your conversation continue as Powder escapes your grasp.
“Now, where did you get all these bruises from?”
“Um… Vi taught me parkour from Topside down…”
“Powder! You’re like seven!”
“Seven and a half! And she said I was ready!”
Tumblr media
Ever since you began to stick around, you had become something of a parent figure to the four little children Vander had come into care for.
To Vi and Powder especially.
So when Mylo burst into The Last Drop with the words of a fistfight on his tongue, you were the first one out the door.
Vander was close behind.
Mylo led you and Vander deep into the Undercity. In fact, it was so far into the Undercity that Vander was worried they were getting into some dark territory.
Like… Really dark territory.
But soon enough, the sounds of a fight were heard, and soon after, you were deep in the throng of a multi-person fistfight. Everyone paused for a second when they saw you and then stopped altogether when they spotted Vander not far behind.
You began to pull people off and shoved them out of the way. You did this again and again, ducking under a few stray punches until you managed to unearth Vi.
She wasn’t looking too hot.
Her face was bruised and swollen, and the fifteen-year-old spat out a wad of blood as she bared her bloody teeth and prepared to fight again.
At least until she saw you.
It was as if the tension had been released from her shoulders.
She all but slumped into your grasp, and you stumbled back a step with the sudden weight. Vander yanked the last person away from you both and scooped up his adoptive daughter. She leaned her head into the crook of his neck and was obviously fighting back tears.
Mylo was hunched over, hands on his knees, and wheezed from all the sprinting.
“Vi? Violet, can you hear me?” You said as soon as you all returned to The Last Drop, and Vander set her down on the couch. Powder and Claggor had been found a block away, fighting off more thugs from whoever sent them after the literal children.
He would've pummeled them to a pulp if Vander hadn’t hung up his gauntlets years before.
Vi’s head lolled from side to side, and you shone a pocket flashlight into her eyes, watching as her pupils dilated and contracted. You were experienced at this, taking care of people, even more so than he thought.
Were you a doctor deep in your past?
As Vander thought about it, he realized he didn’t know practically anything about you. Your past, your likes, dislikes, he knew you were good with machines and medicine and that you came from a big family. But that was it.
And that hurt his heart.
You ended up ushering everyone out of the room while you worked on caring for Vi. Vander closed the bar early and was in the middle of putting chairs on tables when you emerged. Powder, Mylo, and Claggor dropped what they were doing. They scampered to your side, a chorus of “How’s Vi?” erupting from the kids. You offered them a tired smile and patted their heads.
“She’ll be okay. She’s resting right now. You can go in and see her if you’re quiet.”
And then it was the two of you.
Vander set the final chair on top of the table and meandered his way over where you were sitting at the bar, head in your hands.
You looked tired.
“Is she really okay?” He asked, and you grunted, rubbing at your temples.
“She has a broken nose, fractured left arm, some bruised ribs, and a concussion. Which, all things considered, she’s very lucky. It could’ve been a lot worse.” You say, and he sighs,
“Did she say why she got into the fight?” He replied, and you shrug,
“She was protecting Powder. Then, more people started showing up until it was an all-out brawl. That’s when we stepped in.” You say, and his shoulders sag.
Vi was going to be okay.
“I don’t think I’ve ever said it. But thank you. For everything you’ve done. Taking care of them and all that.” He says, and you just hum.
“You guys gave me a home after everything. I’m just repaying my debt. Well… that and I love those kids.” You say, and he arches an eyebrow,
“After everything?” He inquires, and you glance up sharply as if not realizing what you had said.
Eventually, your gaze casts downward, and you run a hand over your head and through your hair.
“I was a doctor in Piltover before the rebellion. I was caught trying to help the Undercity before they were officially citizens and cast out.” You say, and his arched eyebrow raises even higher.
“A doctor? Were you any good?” You bark out a dry laugh at that,
“One of the best!” Your voice cracks as you speak, and he feels his heart splinter into pieces.
Tumblr media
Vander should’ve known that Claggor and Mylo were up to something when they came in with sneaky grins on their faces.
The Last Drop was all but desolate. It was the wee hours of the morning before the people of the Undercity awoke to begin their day. But the door was unlocked, and the kids were allowed to run in and out as they pleased.
Which they had been doing a lot in the last hour or so.
“Vander!” Mylor clamored for his adopted father’s attention, waving an excited hand as he scampered up to the counter. Claggor hung behind, ever the stoic young man. But there was mischief in their eyes and curling the corners of their mouths.
Vander slung the rag he used to wipe the counters down over his shoulder and leaned on the bar counter.
“What did you do now?” He teased, and Mylo all but squawked.
“When have I ever done anything?!” Vander just stared,
“Do you really want me to answer that?” He asked, and Claggor snickered at Mylo’s deflated expression. Mylo quickly spun on a heel and jabbed a finger at his adopted brother,
“Not a word outta you, Claggor!” He snapped before spinning back as something dawned on him.
“You gotta come with us!” He demanded, and Vander glanced between the two of them.
“Why?” He asked, and Mylo let out an exaggerated groan.
“No questions! Just come on!” He grabbed Vander’s hand and tried tugging him around the counter and toward the front door.
Vander relented, locking the door behind him as he followed the two boys.
Only to realize very quickly what was actually going on.
His first tip-off was hearing Powder and Vi’s voices, yours mixed in as you asked where you were going, why they were taking you, and what they were doing.
Vi answered no questions. Powder just chirped excitedly. “You’ll see! You’ll see!”
The six of you met in the middle of the street, Powder dragging you by your hand as you followed behind patiently. You glanced up from listening to Powder, and your gazes met. Vander felt his heart skip a beat as he took in your appearance. There wasn’t anything particularly new, but you looked like you had cleaned up some. Your hair was pinned neatly back, and your clothes looked ironed.
You looked… Really nice.
“Vander? What’s going on?” You asked, and Vi nudged you with her good arm. Her fractured left one was still healing carefully under your care.
“We’re setting you two up.” She teased, and you stared dumbly.
“Setting us up how?” You asked, and now it was Powder’s turn to blurt out an answer,
“On a date!”
Before the two of you could react, all four kids all but disappeared around the corner in a cloud of dust. Leaving you facing Vander and utterly alone.
It was safe to say he was panicking just a little bit.
“Vander? Do you have any idea what they meant?” You asked gently, and he scrubbed a hand down his face.
“My guess is they want us to go on a date.” He said, fully prepared to hear rejection. Because who would want to go on a date with him? A middle-aged man with a stained past. His lungs twisted as he heard you take a step closer.
A smaller hand slipped into his, and he looked down from where he had been staring at Topside.
Your eyes were lit up, not with disgust at the proposition he was proposing.
But they were filled with hope for the future this relationship would bring.

add. notes: welcome 2 the first course >:] i've offered my insights n analysis on railway alr but delving into the meaning of the song n creating a whole fic based off of it was very intriguing for me esp cus i don't usually write based off of music i listen to. i knew i wanted smth wrong to put out but i don't like infidelity n the usual story on toxic situations is tough to pull of so i decided to go down the more 'scandalous' route of sorts n make chan ur best friend's ex instead :3 there's a pinterest board i made for all these fics which for this one u can find linked above to grasp the aesthetics of it n i'd recommend reading this while listening to railway ofc. as always plz make sure u watch out for the tags n dni if ur a minor. also sidenote but aeri (the oc) is not meant to be seen as giselle from aespa but rather i just used that name bcs it's pretty lol just thought i'd lyk that. either way i hope u all enjoy!
. . .
19:23 PM from: dni!!! Wyd?
you swallow thickly at the sight of the text which lights up your screen, eyes zeroed in on the simple three letters which still hold thousands of words worth of meaning in themselves when combined. if it weren’t for the rubber case at the back, you reckon you would’ve dropped your phone with how instantly sweaty your palms become upon having received the message. the way you’re staring at your app, maybe even enough to bore holes into the words displayed back at you, doesn't go unnoticed either, and you barely manage to pocket the device as quick as you'd pulled it out just in time as your best friend approaches you.
“everything okay? you look kinda pale.” aeri frowns once she’s in front of you, voice laced with concern so sweet that it almost makes bile rise up your throat as you attempt to lean back against jake’s kitchen counter to stabilise yourself. she doesn’t seem to buy the eventual shaky nodding of your head that you offer after realising she’d just asked you something that required an answer, but even if she wants to probe you further, she doesn’t, deciding to immerse you in conversation about something your other friends had told her; another one of her gossip sessions with yoon and jungwon, you presume.
her storytelling fades into background noise at some point, for you can’t ignore the heavy weight of the object tucked away in the back of your skirt pocket, still incessantly burning and buzzing with notifications you know you shouldn’t pay half a mind to. you’re well aware that they’re all most likely from the same person; the one individual you shouldn’t and have no right to indulge and mix with to this day; whose bedsheets you’ve found yourself tangled up in late at night alongside dirty noises slipping past both your lips; the very man who remains as sin personified in the storyline of your current life, and honestly might stay that way for as long as you live.
or in other words, aeri’s ex-boyfriend, chan.
your best friend met chan in her final year of university, bumping into him on chance encounter outside her lecture hall and exchanging textbooks by accident. chan had been all smiles when she’d invited him to lunch as an apology for the mix up, often tagging along with her after that until soon enough, they grew close enough and began seeing each other romantically. he seemed to treat her well for the most part, and you were happy for aeri that she’d found a good man worth her time and effort in the world. she’d drag you with her on their outings one too many times, and you’d gotten to know him from those instances, finding him to be a decent match for her.
unfortunately, all good things come to an end, and the spark between them started dwindling. you’re not sure what exactly happened, only able to recall bits and pieces from what aeri had told you mid-sob on your calls about her previous lover slowly becoming distant nearing the final stages of their relationship, so you’ve always just thought it was a mutual decision to cut ties for the betterment of each other. according to her vividly detailed breakdowns though, chan had been the one to suggest calling it off first, and everything came to a screeching halt three years down the line with much screaming and tears from her side. to an extent, their split did shake up things a little between all your mutual friends, but it also didn’t fully stop everybody from engaging with each other. all this brings you to your current situation— waiting in jake’s apartment for the rest of your friends to arrive for a random party he’d decided to plan on a whim.
“yo, guys!” speak of the devil, you think, tugging yourself out of your thoughts as you turn your body to let jake’s figure come into view. he beams at you like a big puppy, his hair flopping in a way that loosely resembles dog ears, and you remember after a split second that that’s just how your friend is referred to as in your group; the resident golden retriever. he parades up to you and aeri as one too, his vibrant smile lighting up the atmosphere in a way that you can’t stop relief from flooding your system at his presence.
“how are my favourite girls doing this fine evening?” he smirks, his usual flirting the same as always, causing aeri to roll her eyes as you chuckle. “har har up yours, sim.” she sticks her tongue out, prompting jake to do the same as he ruffles her hair, to which she shrieks. “oh, by the way,” jake perks up as if he’s just thought of something, completely ignoring your best friend smacking him on the arm lightly over his actions. “y/n, would you be so kind as to get the pack of beer from my car?” he pleads, doe eyes twinkling under the light of the room.
you’re about to groan in protest, not wanting to go back out in the cold and freeze your ass off for a measly few cans of alcohol, but the front door swinging open accompanied by the all too familiar voice you’ve grown acquainted to fills the air, making your stomach drop— chan. chan is here. suddenly, you’re not too opposed to getting far away, and you quickly nod your head rapidly in agreement, not bothering to wait for the way jake lights up at you accepting his proposal before snatching the keys from his hold and darting towards the lift.
chan’s jaw tightens at this. he barely manages to catch a glimpse of you from how you rush out past him, not even able to take in your outfit or face in the dashing haze you leave in. he points his thumb to where you had exited, bluffing something about helping you when jake responds how you’d gone out to grab the load of drinks he’d been too lazy to heave upstairs himself. nobody makes any work to question him when he turns on his heel to catch the elevator himself, thinking nothing of his usual gentleman-like behaviour.
nobody except for a pair of eyes lingering on his disappearing frame that neither one of the visitors in the house manages to grasp onto.
meanwhile, you quickly find yourself in the outdoor parking lot of jake’s building, hugging your shivering body tightly in an effort to warm yourself up against the chilling wind that blows past the trees. the sky has basically turned dark by now, but the streetlamps hanging overhead on the sides of the pavement serve as enough illumination to carry out your task. your breath comes out in heavy smoke to the point you can see it, and you try your best to spot your friend’s car as soon as possible, cheering internally when you manage to do so. after having jogged on over to it, you enter the key into the trunk lock with trembling fingers, twisting it until that same latch you’ve grown used to feeling with your own vehicle opens and makes way for you to push up the boot lid.
you’re about to hook underneath to manoeuvre it open, that is, until a sudden cold hand tugs on the bare skin of your arm, making you jump out of your own flesh. you open your mouth to yell out loud, ready to alert your friends a few floors upstairs that someone is trying to kidnap you potentially when that same hand clamps over it. only when your vision stabilises in your dimly lit surroundings do you recognise chan in front of you, and you feel your shoulders physically drop as you put down your defences, glaring at him when he removes himself.
“why the hell would you sneak up on me like that? i—“
“are you avoiding me?”
his question comes out gruff and annoyed, causing you to blink at the way he’s glowering at you in suspicion. his arms are crossed against his chest, hiding the black button-up you’ve seen him wearing and committed to memory one too many times from how it clings perfectly onto his chiselled shoulders and biceps. it makes you gulp, but you attempt to hide your affected reaction anyways, delivering a scoff in his direction which only makes chan grit his teeth at your attitude. “so what if i am? you know damn well either way without needing me to spell it out for you.” you bite back, moving to turn around when he catches you by the elbow, leaving you to scowl at him.
“what’s gotten into you? just a few days ago, we were fine, yet now you’re ignoring my texts?” he narrows his eyes, holding you in place so you can’t budge away from him. you let out a faint tch at his words, more so at your own susceptibility to succumb to his advances, but chan tongues the side of his cheek after assuming you’re just being blatantly disrespectful towards him. his voice drops to a lower, seductive tone as he speaks up again. “need me to remind you again? you came over last saturday and humped my thigh before squirting on my tong— hmph!“
“god, yes, i fucking remember, okay?” you exclaim in a whisper after having slapped a hand over his mouth this time, eyes darting around frantically to make sure no one heard that. “could you be any more louder? jesus christ.” chan peels you off of him shortly afterwards, his expression souring at the way you address him. something about the anger in his features makes your own rise, and you feel any or all remorse you'd experienced prior to seeing him in person today vanish, replaced with a bubbling hatred of sorts.
you and chan began your weird affiliation with one another around two months ago, exactly a few days after he and your best friend broke up. to this day, you don’t know why he made a move on you, much less why you yourself reciprocated it. sure, you’d always found him objectively attractive when he and aeri were together, and while he may be your exact match of an ideal type to a tee, you would never think to act on the growing tension you experienced for him, especially when he was in a long term commitment with the closest person in the world to you.
it all happened in the most random of occurrences too. you still remember meeting him the night you were out at the convenience store to run errands, catching him hunched over a table in a hoodie and messy hair with two bottles of soju in front. he’d flashed you a polite smile and offered to drink together, which realistically, you should’ve declined. you should’ve turned the other way in disgust and walked out on him to tell your best friend what he’d attempted to do, regardless of whether that would’ve led to something or not. instead, you found yourself in his bed that day, moaning his name as he ravished you under the moonlight streaming through his curtains in your combined drunken craze.
the next morning had been full of hiccuped cries, chan cradling you in his arms despite the scalding touch of his hold gnashing against you and leaving metaphorical imprints that you would never be able to scrub off. each time he soothed you, rubbing your back and kissing your hair, you felt the waves of guilt wash over harsher than the last. he continued to reassure you throughout anyways, telling you it’d be okay and that no one would have to know. blindly, you’d believed him, promising yourself and him to never act on either of your arbitrary lust by not letting go of your inhibitions.
that was the first lie you told yourself.
“y’know, i’m really not a fan of this whole backtalk towards me.” chan criticises, and you laugh bitterly after picking up on his audible disappointment as it hits your ears. “see? there it is again. maybe i’ve gotta teach you some manners, hm?” his tone is sultry once more, leaving you fighting the urge to flush under his gaze. you ultimately lose though, wanting nothing more than to punch him in the face with the way he snickers at your cheeks reddening crimson. instead, you try retain the little dignity you have left as you push against his chest, scanning your parameters with paranoia when he steps closer to you.
“we can’t.” you mumble, clearly slipping. chan’s only response to that is a breathless huff, warm against your face as you peer up at him through your lashes, finally getting a good look at him. he’s wearing his signature hoop earrings today, hair brushed down so his bangs fall over his forehead. the collar of that same dress shirt he’s got on is popped despite a few buttons being undone, leaving the styling choice to highlight his collarbone. that same milky skin you’ve ghosted your nails over multiple times hides underneath the black fabric, leaving you to shiver at the memories of it. it also doesn’t help that the way he towers you is sending your mind reeling into submission way too easily, and you only manage to shake out of it when his fingers trail down to wrap around your wrist, allowing you to feel the cold metal of a ring you recognise all too well press into your joint—
the same half of a promise ring you’d helped him pick out for aeri a year ago.
the realisation that he’s still wearing it hits, and combined with the once again forming shame in the back of your head, it all makes you want to shove him away in favour of storming out of here to tell your best friend everything once and for all. a part of you can sense undue jealousy simmering inside at the fact that he’s still got a piece of her with him too, something you know you have no right to feel, but you try ignore it to your best ability. “chan, we can’t.” you repeat with a hitch in your breath, more so for yourself than him. and yet, you don’t even believe your own words, finding the less rational and weak side of you surrendering to the temptation chan tantalises in you; it overshadows whatever morality you have left.
“d’you really want me to stop?” he breathes out, body sagging far too close into yours for it to be friendly, although you suppose none of your interactions since starting this scandalous relationship have ever been that. his fingers, the very same ones bearing the ring on them, move to wrap around your throat, forcing you to tilt your head up and lock eyes with him. goosebumps prick your skin when you catch sight of the way his gaze is hooded, orbs swirling with black desire he’s begun to reserve only for you in these coming weeks. “because, if you want me to stop, i will.” chan points out. “say the word and i’ll turn around. out of sight, out of mind.” he makes a statement out of it by retracting his hand from you, but the very distinct whine you let out is all the confirmation he needs to press his mouth to yours.
kissing chan always feels like playing with fire. it scorches, and singes, and sears, reducing you to a burnt crisp, yet you can’t help but yearn for the flame he ignites in you. even the way he’s clutching onto you now, pressing forward with a fervour only you bring out in him, has his lips moulding against your cherry stained ones despite not fitting as perfectly as you’d want them to. the two of you are by no means a compatible match for each other; neither of you has made a single good decision ever since you began indulging in whatever you’ve got going on, but you also can’t help but crave the scandalous nature of everything. you’re truly a despicable pair, you think.
“get in the car.” chan’s voice cuts through your thoughts when he pulls away. he doesn’t even give you time to think when he walks over and opens the door, gesturing inside to the warm confines of the backseat. ideally, you shouldn’t, you know you shouldn’t, but alas, you’ve never been one to listen to yourself, instead finding your legs scrambling and following suit to shuffle into jake’s vehicle before the weight of your actions even sinks in. chan’s hot on your trail too, and before you can even get comfortable in the cramped space, he’s returning to making out with you, fingers roaming greedily around the expanse of your skin.
“t-they’ll know we’re gone.” you stutter, moving your face out of his reach to try and stop chan’s movements when it finally dawns on you that your friends had sent you out on an errand you’d taken far too long to complete by now. chan’s only response is to grunt though, tugging you back in for another smouldering kiss that knocks the wind out of your lungs. his hands grasp, pinch, and squeeze whatever part of you they can, until he’s finally decided that he’s had enough foreplay, opting to cage you underneath him and hike up the tight, red dress that’s adorning your body for today’s occasion. “i’ll be quick. i always am.” he winks, and you’re too far gone now to understand that he’s responding to your previous comment, a fact that only makes him chuckle.
“wore this to tease me, yeah?” chan clicks his tongue at the way he has to practically peel off the bottom half of your clothing, the snug fit of the fabric around your curves leaving nothing to the imagination as he bites his lip. he debates whether he’s glad you chose this outfit to show off for him, or if that pisses him off because it means everybody gets an eyeful of your figure; he decides on the latter. “wanted to slut yourself out for my attention? all you had to do was ask, baby.” you shake your head with a whimper, and he raises an eyebrow at your reaction. “d-didn’t.. didn’t wear it for you.” you manage to breathe out, which proves to be the wrong answer because next thing you know, his hand is coming down to smack your clothed core.
you yelp at the sting of his actions, teary eyes blinking up at him in a way that makes chan’s boxers tighten. he’s so close to losing his composure, but he holds back for your sake, not wanting to let you see his cool slip. “is that so? i guess you’re just a dirty girl then.” he sneers, yanking down your soaked panties in one swift motion, leaving you to gasp as the cool air hits your sticky folds.
chan wastes not even one second, knobby digits dragging through the wetness he’s not surprised to find whatsoever. he spreads it over your clit, getting you messier than you already are, especially from the way you appear to leak even more arousal from his movements. he touches you until you’re twitching under his hold, biting back the sounds that threaten to escape you, which seems to be a fact he doesn’t approve of from the way he pinches your nub between his fingers; you cry out softly from the rush of stimulation it shoots through you. “eyes on me.” chan growls, sliding his hand down to circle your oozing hole before he’s abruptly shoving two fingers inside.
“fuck.” you moan this time, loud and clear. this seems to satisfy him, seeing as he rewards you with a steady pump of his digits thrusting into your heat. his speed in fingering you increases quickly, and it isn’t long before he’s scissoring you open, the sloppy sounds of your juices slicking up his fingers and echoing in the stuffy space of jake’s car. you’re probably staining the leather of the seats, but neither you nor chan seem to care about that right now, not when he’s knuckle deep inside your wet cunt and you’re making such pretty noises all for him.
“just filthy, aren’t ya? getting finger fucked in the back of your friends car. i bet your dumb little brain can’t even understand what i’m saying right now.” chan mocks, his tone laced with a level of condescension that only makes you buck your hips up to chase his movements. you know he’s completely right too, because the way he’s thrusting his digits inside you, stroking your warm walls with the tips of them has you seeing stars to the point you can’t even respond back something snarky in return. “all you’re good for is being a nasty toy for sir’s use, hm?” you barely even register his question, only remembering you need to answer him when he pulls his wet hand away to smack you once more, this time over your swollen bundle of nerves.
“y-yes, sir. only a toy for you. jus’ you.” you mindlessly slur out, and chan groans at that. not even a moment passes before he’s sinking his fingers back inside you, curling them up to massage that rough spot which always has you clenching down on him. his expression twists to a smug one when you jerk forward instantly. bingo, he thinks. “that’s that spot there, yeah? the one that has you losing yourself on me?” he coos, but his voice drips with a smidge of venom you can’t quite fixate on just yet. instead, you nod dumbly, spasming around him as you try grind upwards to chase the rising sensation of your climax.
chan leans into your frame, one hand splayed flat onto jake’s backseat above your head to maintain his balance whilst his body hovers over you. by now, your eyes are clenched shut, but he can’t even find it in him to get mad at you over that, not when you’re dribbling down his wrist and mewling so pretty under the glow of the night as he works you towards your orgasm. “c’mon, baby. cum f’me. wanna see you cum so pretty for sir.” he encourages, jaw locked with concentration.
it only takes about one or two flicks of his expertly trained thumb pressing on your puffy clit, combined with the pads of his fingers hitting your g-spot with terrifying accuracy, before you’re shuddering through your climax. a small, clear stream of liquid sprays out the sides of where he’s got you plugged up, and he pulls his hand away in favour of rubbing you over to coax out the last remnants of your high. your quivering body thrashes when he tries to draw out the remaining few droplets again, weakly bringing your arm up to push him away gently when the shocks of overstimulation begin to take over. chan dips down to place one, final kiss on your lips, smooching down to your chin as a way to say you did well. his actions make you heart beat out of your chest, but you don’t say anything about the domesticity of them.
you wonder if he ever treated aeri like this after having been intimate with her.
“go in first. i’ll clean up the car.” chan clears his throat after a short while, not daring to make eye contact with you as he quietly pulls your underwear back up your legs. you watch in silence while he sits up, looking for a rag to fix the mess you two made when that same awkward air you’ve gotten used to facing with him enters the atmosphere, leaving you to try and ignore how it tugs at the strings of your soul as you give a curt nod. “don’t forget the beer.” you remind him before swinging the door open to step outside, finding yourself back in the nipping cold of the winter night.
you try and stand on your wobbly legs to straighten out the creases of your dress, paying no mind to the way your skin echoes with the ghost of chan’s previous touch. behind you, you can hear him rolling down the windows to let the musky smell of sex out of jake’s backseat, and you almost dare to sneak a glance back until deciding against it, knowing it’ll just hurt more. instead, you close your eyes and take a deep breath, opening them to land on the small balcony of your friend’s apartment where the rest of your group seems to have already gathered from the silhouettes you can see through the foggy glass. your conscience feels heavy with the weight of the knowledge that aeri is up there too, but you brush it off, just like all the other times you have.
i didn’t do anything wrong, you tell yourself, i’m still in the clear. that’s the second lie you’ve tried to believe in these last two months. a long sigh escapes your lips at that realisation, but you bite it down when making your way back inside the building, choosing to rack your brain on what shitty excuse you’ll have to provide this time for being gone so long.
. . .
to your surprise, nobody bothers to question why either you or chan disappeared, simply whisking you back in conversation about unrelated topics when you walk in through the door a few minutes before him. as per usual, your heart still feels heavy when you watch aeri laugh at something heeseung and sieun are arguing over, but you cover it up by letting out a noise of amusement yourself, hoping it throws off any suspicion that might be directed your way. you don’t bother turning your head upon hearing jake’s delight at the sight of chan entering his apartment with the very much requested pack of beer too, deciding to force a smile at whatever point heeseung is busy making over looking back no matter how much your body itches to do so.
it’s even worse how from the corner of your eye, you can see aeri shifting uncomfortably on her feet at her ex-boyfriend’s second arrival, her expression dropping in the slightest so as to not draw attention to herself, but it’s still enough for you to notice. it only makes the weight of your actions dawn on you further, and you can’t help but let your mind wander as to what she’d say if she knew what truly went on behind closed doors. despite your best efforts to bury those thoughts beneath you though, you know there’s nothing you can do to make amends to the problems you’ve created yourself. after all, you’ve got to reap what you sow.
the party continues to kick in on full swing after that, with you and aeri both doing your best to keep your distances from chan for all too different reasons. it doesn’t help that you can feel someone’s stare raking across your figure throughout the duration of the evening, and when you finally do decide to sneak a glance in that direction with expectations of finding chan ogling you over, you’re met with a different answer—
for it isn’t you he’s busy looking at, but rather your best friend that’s been glued to your side since the beginning of the night.
he averts his gaze as quick as he’d cast it when you catch him, seamlessly blending back in discussion with whatever nonsense changbin is rambling about this time, acting like he hadn’t just been getting an eyeful of his ex-girlfriend moments prior. you also don’t miss how he fiddles with the old ring that adorns his right hand, long fingers twisting it around the middle digit in a way that’s reminiscent of his past behaviour, or at least based on what you’d often find him doing back then.
his actions spark a memory deep from the confines of your brain, one you wish you hadn’t remembered as the vision of chan asking you to help pick out promise rings for him and aeri crosses your mind. it was raining heavily that day, but he’d insisted that the two of you go out in secret anyways so he could buy his then girlfriend a token of his love and appreciation. he’d claimed you knew her taste the best and could therefore help in selecting a better possible gift for their upcoming anniversary than he ever could.
you’d hesitantly agreed, and although you weren’t sure how it would all play out, you later found yourself sharing an umbrella and visiting various jewellery stores to point out all the designs you knew your closest friend would adore. chan had settled soon on a matching pair for the two of them, beaming in your direction with a bright smile that left you weak in the knees despite however much you tried to hide it. a few days later, aeri excitedly showed off her own silver band to you, buzzing about how he’d chosen the perfect present that she couldn’t wait to replace with a real one in their future; you couldn’t help then but think if he ever told her it was all your idea instead of his.
“hey, can you hold my phone?” your best friend’s voice cuts through your inner replay, and you blink in a daze to find her facing you, expression innocent. “hyunjin asked to play beer pong, and i don’t have any pockets to put it away in safely.” she explains at your confused face, but all you can do is nod as you robotically outstretch your arm to take it off of her. unfortunately or fortunately, that’s when you notice it—
the same matching ring on her hand.
aeri doesn’t pay you any attention when she drops off her device into your awaiting palm, not even realising you’re zeroed in on the jewellery that decorates her left hand with a fire burning in your eyes that you’re both ignorant of. you don’t stop gaping even when felix shakes your shoulder, asking you what you’re so fixated on before leaving you be under the impression that you’re probably just drunk out of your head. meanwhile, you’re still frozen in place, everything around you seeming to slow down.
why is chan wearing a ring he bought for his ex-girlfriend two years ago to a party he knows she’s going to be at? no, why does said ex-girlfriend also have her matching pair of the ring on her hand at a party she too is aware he’s going to be present for? much less, why are either of them hung up on each other to the point they’re carrying around reminders of their past relationship with one another? you know the answer to all these questions, but you don’t wish to sit and delve into them in fear you might throw up at the conclusion they’ll give you. instead, all you can do is squeeze the can of seltzer you’d spiked in your hand dangerously tight out of unwanted emotion, enough for some of the liquid inside to spill out. you can’t be bothered to care about it though, just like how you can’t be bothered to care about how anybody in their right mind could probably see you gawking at chan right now.
you watch as he cracks up at a joke seungmin makes, his head falling back in a fit of laughter you’ve been a happy witness or recipient of multiple times, yet this time it fills you with emotion that you don’t wish to identify in fear it’d mean something more than what you’re capable of confronting right now. even so, you can’t stop the train of questions invading your thoughts at the view in front of you. did he laugh like that with aeri? smile so wide with her? couldn’t help the joy that spread across due to her presence? maybe that’s why he came today, because he couldn’t take his mind off of her, especially seeing as he was wearing a symbol of their time spent before right now.
but, what does that say about you in this picture? were you just a scapegoat to escape all those feelings for him? had you been one this entire time, only deluding yourself into thinking what you both had translated into a situation deeper and could potentially progress into one even more had things happened under different circumstances? the more you think, the more you feel nauseous, and you can’t stop yourself from diverting your gaze to where your best friend is, observing her concentrated face as she attempts to aim a ping pong ball into one of the lined up solo cups. your eyes involuntarily flicker to the ring on her finger once more, its evident shimmer reflecting in the light causing you to clutch your drink tighter.
you’re not a jealous person by any means. you know your boundaries, hence you know chan isn’t yours. he isn’t an object you can own, and neither are you to him. that was the unspoken agreement you both nodded on when you got into this entire ordeal— you’re both free to see other people openly in front of aeri as long as it’s not each other, because the latter you manage in secret despite the shame that surges in you two upon doing so. it doesn’t matter if you wish to stake your claim on him, to see the marks you leave on him evident on his skin the next morning for him to show off other girls who think they stand a chance at him taking them to bed. it doesn’t matter how much your heart aches when you wake up to the blanket strewn aside from his absence, the sheets long gone cold to indicate that he’d left hours ago. it doesn’t matter how much you wish to cling onto his arm in public and profess your.. feelings for him in front of everyone else.
it simply doesn’t matter, it never did. chan’s never been yours, and he never will be anytime soon.
20:51 PM from: Myself meet me at the upstairs bathroom in five
you punch in the message before you can even think, watching it turn from delivered to read in a matter of seconds. the three dots next to chan’s side of texts appear, indicating that he’s typing, but you choose to lock your device rather than waiting like a dog to see him reply. instead, your feet lead you to your designated location, taking one step at a time leisurely as opposed to in a rush so as to not draw unwanted attention to yourself. right as you reach the door handle, your phone pings with a familiar ringtone.
20:52 PM from: dni!!! Reacted with “👍🏻” to your message
you sigh. tonight was going to be a long night.
. . .
skin slapping. heavy panting. low grunting.
that’s all you can hear from where you’re splayed across the sink in the small confines of jake’s bathroom, aside from the occasional thumping of music booming from downstairs. if you strain your ear enough, you’ll be able to make out the lyrics to the cliche song that’s come up on shuffle, but you honestly lack the mentality to care about that right now, especially considering the way chan has your legs pushed apart in favour of drilling his length into you. each thrust is rapid and fervent in nature, seeming to knock the wind out of your lungs to the point you don’t even realise how loud you’re being until his hand comes up to shove two fingers in your mouth. “be fucking quiet.” he sneers, leaving you to drool everywhere. the only reaction he spares when you try muffle out an apology is a sickening smirk at that too.
“needed this, didn’t you, slut? always need to be filled with some cock like a bitch in heat.” chan chuckles, but there’s a dark edge to his voice that sends shivers crawling up your spine. he presses down on your tongue with the pads of his fingers, and you can’t stop the garbling of spit choking past your lips from the way his thickness nestles deep inside you. each heavy drag of his dick against your rough walls leaves you clenching and attempting to buck your hips forward, but you can’t even manage that with the grip he has on your waist. the mere idea that all chan really needs to restrain you is the simple strength of his one hand sends your mind reeling, so much so that you don’t even realise he’s speaking to you until the hand that was previously in your mouth pulls out to slap light and wet against your cheek.
“i asked you a question, whore.” chan growls, the sound resonating warm within your stomach despite the mean undertone to it as his movements still. you blink up at him in confusion at this point, doe eyes brimming with tears that threaten to spill from the loss of pleasure in a way that has chan damn near finishing. it doesn’t help that he’s buried to the hilt currently, hissing painfully at how you squeeze down on him in involuntary instinct. for a split second, you swear you see the ridges on his face soften, and the manner in which he looms over you feels filled with more comfort than intimidation, but that smidge of emotion vanishes as soon as it arrives. “i said,” chan’s tongue swipes over his bottom lip. “do you wanna get caught?” you rapidly shake your head no at that, and chan cocks his head to the side.
“oh, really?” he muses, nails sliding over to dig into the supple flesh of your thigh, making you whine out loud. “‘cause with the way you’re making so much noise like that, i’d have assumed the opposite.” with a click of his tongue, his actions resume. luckily, all that escapes you is a loud gasp this time, an anxious clamp of your palm over your mouth barely covering up the rest of your lewdity. you wish so desperately to refute, to plead him in favour of slowing down and having some mercy, but the sensation of his bulbous cockhead slamming roughly into that one spot only sends stars in your vision and prevents your previous desires.
your body jerks in chan’s hold even more when his same hand still lubed with your saliva finds it way between where you’re connected, leaving you to suppress a pathetic whimper that longs to bubble out of your throat as he presses the tips of his fingers to your swollen clit. his touch is harsh, filled with an overwhelming need to make you burst at the seams, but the fear that lingers in the back of your head refuses to let you fall apart so easily, not when aeri is barely a flight of stairs from your vicinity. chan decides he isn’t fond of the silence you’re giving him though, pulling out with a quiet mumble for you to get down and face the mirror. he sheaths himself back in just as quickly, setting an unforgiving pace from the seemingly more accessible position, and this time, you really can’t stop the long drawn out moan that escapes you.
“j-just like that, yeah, baby? all those filthy noises are just for me, aren’t they?” he sounds more delirious this time, presumably drunk off the essence of this situation from the possessive gibberish he’s spouting, just like he always does in the heat of the moment. unfortunately for you, you’re no better than him, nodding furiously in agreement as you babble high-pitched and breathy. “so good, sir! s-so, so fucking good, feels so good! wan’ cum f’you, p-please. ‘m a good girl, please lemme cum, please, please, please.” small stutters spew out of you mid-sentence, but neither of you can be bothered by them, too wrapped up in the throes of all-consuming passion and contempt even to register what’s being said.
“such a nasty, nasty girl.. getting fucked by your best friend’s ex. don’t you feel a-any shame?” chan groans almost wearily in midst of his lust-filled haze, eyes catching yours from the reflection of the mirror that’s displaying you getting absolutely wrecked right now. the sight of you so fucked up and in bliss, no coherent thought visible by the looks of your dazed expression and tongue halfway lolling out— it all has him burning with hot, rampant hunger. hunger for you, hunger to claim you. “look at yourself.” he rasps, fingers clutching at your chin to force you into meeting where he is. “look how dirty you are, fuck. what would she say about you wrapped so warm and snug around my cock? hm? think we should— ah. think we should call her in and find out?”
the tears that were brewing in your waterline are streaming down your face by now, horrifically mimicking the disgusting manner in your wetness seeping and dripping down chan’s balls. you feel awful. downright terrible and tainted, forever branded by the searing touch of chan’s skin grazing against yours because that’s what you are, that’s what you have been for the past two months. down from the night you let him lead you into his sheets, following the countless occasions you found yourself returning there, and finally falling to now, your underwear strewn across the tiles of jake’s bathroom as you spread your legs for the same man who broke your best friend’s heart; the same man who you’ve let into yours after very consciously disregarding the repercussions of your actions.
you’re truly a loathsome piece of work.
“think she’d like to watch me fill this pussy up? watch me shoot my load deep inside you over and over again until i’m sure it’s taken?” chan mutters, hot breath fanning against your sweaty neck. “maybe i should breed this stupid cunt full of my seed and send you back out there with it spilling past your legs. that way, every time you sit down, you’ll feel it inside you.” the mental image of his release lodged in your walls as you’re surrounded by all your friends, surrounded by the one person you’ve both been hiding from, all of them oblivious to the way he’s staked his claim on you except for the shared knowledge between you two and you two only— it has you quivering to the point you physically keen in his hold. chan, however, just laughs sadistically at your reaction.
“you’ll feel it as a reminder of me, yeah? a reminder that you’re just as terrible as me. coming to me to get this slutty cunt stuffed even though you know you shouldn’t.” he continues to whisper. “after all, it takes two to tango, darling.” chan makes it a point to tilt his hips up in an effort to ensure his mushroom tip hits your g-spot with precise force, all the while breathlessly uttering more sickening words in your ear in hopes of fulfilling your need for relief.
surely enough, the combination of his cock shoving itself past your opening and his guilt-inducing remarks that only make you sob harder work you up to the point of no return. all it really takes after that is one touch of his thumb to your pulsating nub to eventually have you seizing up in no time, your pussy messily tightening and gushing as your high crashes over you in large waves of ecstasy. it seems to trigger him too, because by the time you even realise you’re there, chan’s twitching and leaking spurts of thick cum inside you. there’s so much of it that it trickles past where he’s got you plugged up, and you barely comprehend yourself pushing a hand near your oozing hole to catch it on your fingertips.
you both come to slowly, ragged breathing that fills the air growing quieter to pair with the musk of the room. chan’s gaze is still trained on you through the mirror, unreadable just like always whenever you’ve made the same mistake again, but you take the opportunity in this instance specifically to raise the hand that’s collected his seed in it to your mouth, proceeding to lick up the droplets of his excess release. even though you don’t catch his stare in the reflection, you can still feel it burning holes through your head, a fact that only leaves goosebumps rising over your skin. it’s only when you pull your hand away once more to catch the last of his remaining cum that he decides to finally interject, grabbing your palm in his coarse one with hooded eyes. they’re blown out when he tugs your back flush into his chest, the impact leaving his length pushing deeper inside, and they’re blown out when his fingers wrap around your neck to give it a slight squeeze, the little loss of oxygen making your mind spin.
“you think that’s funny? teasing me even after i just fucked you? after i left my mark on you and made sure you know that you’re mine?” chan murmurs, lips sultrily ghosting the shell of your ear. you want to fixate on what he’d addressed you as, let it marinate in your thoughts and brood over it for the next weeks to come even if it was just an absentminded slip of the mouth, but your focus is interrupted by the moving of his hips against yours picking up once more. the previously repeated actions send his dick driving into you again, breaching your cervix and pressing deliciously into every nook and cranny in a way that has you nearly losing your footing, but chan is quicker to hold you up with his free hand. “w-wait, ‘m still sensitive.” you manage to tremble out at a particularly well-placed graze of his cock, but chan doesn’t seem to care, grinding into you even more eagerly at your admission to the point you struggle to keep the sounds spilling out you at bay.
there’s a resounding knock on the door all of a sudden, one that makes your breath hitch and your chest twist in uneasiness. some part of you feels wary and on edge, and you would assume chan’s movements would halt at that, but he doesn’t show any signs of stopping, ignoring your frantic attempts to make him do so by holding you in place instead as he begins to pick up the pace. “s-stop, we’ll get caught.” you heave out upon the noise of skin slapping rising in volume. you do your best to stand your ground, to avoid the gradual closing of your eyes and the mushy fog of your brain clouding over in euphoria, but it’s to no avail. you’re about to let go of your inhibitions completely, to forget about what had just happened and throw caution into the wind in order to lose yourself in the moment, until—
“y/n, i know you’re in there with chris.”

BLUEBIRD
(andrew “pope” cody x f!reader)
part one: wingspan | mdni | MASTERLIST
this fic is a continuation of this concept.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
synopsis: your daughter leads you to the brooding, shark-eyed man who quietly lingers down the aisle.
tags: ANGST, season 4 pope, more angst, age gap, heavy yearning, very brief mentions of violence, eventual smut wc: 2.4k (i definitely intend to write much longer chapters) cat says: this is set some time around s4ep1 and the perspectives shift back and forth.
Tumblr media
He finds you here again. The same day, two weeks later.
Only, this time, he can’t hide from your child, who springs up on her toes upon seeing him linger by the bread racks. Ten feet away, give or take. As soon as she tugs on your sleeve, he blinks and shifts his attention to a bag of rye bread slices in an attempt to feign intrigue with something other than you.
Still a blur in the periphery of his sight, you lean down to catch her whispers while she cups a little hand around your ear.
“Ohhh,” you coo in a hushed voice. He hears you laugh then, and it seizes his heart. He has nowhere to run; nothing to conceal him. A ‘deer in the headlights’ kind of dread. His throat dries and tightens when blurred shapes approach his right flank. Your daughter is dragging you toward him with all the might in her four-year-old body. “Slow down, please, Sam,” you try to warn her.
He’s left with no other choice but to glance to his side and acknowledge the two of you (The haunting image of something he could’ve had, once upon a time, if Smurf didn’t get into his head. Another woman, another child, neither of which he felt he deserved).
“Hi, I’m so sorry,” you smile apologetically, feeling the ache of regret gnaw on your innards. You see his jaw tense. His arms remain firmly crossed and you take note of the way they bulk up and swell under his shirt sleeves. A vein snaking along his freckled forearm. “She just really wanted to say hello,” you look down at your child, who beams and swings her hand with yours. He looks down too, stone-faced and unconcerned.
A fading purple welt brands his cheekbone and it draws your attention to how worn he looks. Little nicks and scars peppering his nose with the ghost of someone’s locked fist crashing into the cartilage. You notice his hand curling over his bicep as shades of yellow and red bloom like withered flowers under the marred skin of his knuckles.
He must be a handful of weeks out of an old fight, and you wonder what kind of man throws his body into a torrent of violence and then gifts a kid—and quite morosely at that—some snacks (presumably) out of the kindness of his heart.
For a moment, you’re mortified by the possibility that your daughter has mistaken him for the wrong man. Or that he, for whatever reason, has entirely forgotten the random interaction he initiated in the parking lot two weeks ago. The box of chocolate pretzels he bought for your daughter is still sitting half-empty in your pantry.
“Hello,” Sam waves with her free hand, but she’s suddenly shy after all that nagging and pulling. She moves to wrap herself around your leg, squishing her face against the side of your thigh.
Pope watches you rest your hand on the crown of her head, and he has to chase his breath while keeping a straight face. Lena echoes in the back of his mind. Haunts him. Your child is probably a few inches shorter than she would be, though he’s not even entirely sure if she’s still the same height now. He knows it’s a ridiculous notion that his niece could have grown so significantly in only a matter of months. But even a day without her feels longer than a lifetime, and then some.
Pope has also never really been smooth with people, let alone beautiful young mothers such as yourself. Wouldn’t blame you if you confuse his muted wonderment with blunt apathy.
You’re flooded with relief when he finally nods at her, even when he says ‘Hi’ in a colourless tone. You wonder if he’s ever spoken to a child before. It’s a little sweet, nonetheless.
“That was really kind of you,” your voice pulls his eyes back up to you, “buying the pretzels for her last week. I don’t know how you noticed.”
You search his face as if the set of his features will give him away and answer all your multiplying questions. It’s pathetic how much the gesture had moved you—a memory you haven’t stopped revisiting since that day he found you and Sam by your car. When was the last time somebody paid attention to her? To you?
“Just mildly observant,” he shrugs. Mildly doesn’t even begin to cover it, but you don’t know that.
You wouldn’t say that you find his stare to be too unnerving, but it’s not exactly comforting you either. His eyes are a shade you can’t properly distinguish and the way he looks at you seems to darken his irises significantly. Pupils blown wide; colour, swallowed up. You might as well be trapped in some configuration of a microscope, your myriad cells all laid bare for his study.
Sam decides she longer has any interest in the man and circles around your legs to look at the rows of bread beside you. She’s crouching by your feet, attempting to count past thirteen and repeatedly starting back at one. You look up again to find his eyes boring into a fraction of your bare collarbone.
All this time, his body has been facing the bread racks while his head is angled to the right. You wonder if his neck might be sore.
Your hands sink into the pockets of your shorts, “You really didn’t have to, but thank you. Again.”
He leaves a pause like he has to chew on your words before finding his own.
“You couldn’t afford it,” he says. “Wasn’t a problem.” Maybe you’re kidding yourself, but he sounds a touch softer. Again, you’re trying to figure out where he could’ve been when you had to say no to Sam and how much of the conversation he remembers. No matter how much sense you try to make of it, nothing about him seems to add up.
“Money is tight,” you say with a nod before averting your eyes almost in shame. Like you’re trying to sand down the sharp corners of your deficit so as not to further humiliate yourself. But, to Pope, you don’t do a very good job of it. Hiding your shame, that is. He can’t figure out how to communicate his sympathy without coming on too strong.
Before he can stop himself, he tilts his head, asking, “Where’s her father?”
The bluntness of it stuns you a little bit, but then you’re laughing again, as soft as the first time. His insides liquify at the sound.
“Your guess is as good as mine,” you sigh, “I’m not sure these days. Probably the other side of the planet.”
You say it so casually, but you still can’t get a laugh out of him. He’s scanning your face like he knows you’ve got more to say, and you probably do, but you’ve never cared enough to remember her father’s name because he sure as shit doesn’t remember hers.
“He doesn’t support you?” Pope presses before he wonders why he even bothered asking. Who, in his life, can stand up and say that their father actually acted like one? Out of all of his mother’s lovers, who had been the least deplorable? How many of them had actually cared about anything besides themselves?
He once thought that Baz, at the very least, would break the cycle of abandon.
You glance down at your kid, wary of her ears, before manoeuvring around her and stepping closer to him. The proximity has him feeling lightheaded, but he pivots to face you with his whole body this time. You lower your voice, sharing half-secrets with a brooding stranger in a grocer’s aisle.
“We weren’t really together,” you start, a little scared that he might think differently of you now (You don’t know that it’s near impossible to scare him off with whatever you’re about to confess). “I was young—too young. He was older. And charming, at first.” Your mind revisits old memories like spoiled milk.
Something burgeons deep inside him, closely comparable with the need to disinfect. To clean. To wipe your skin free of the residue of that man. He doesn’t think it makes you dirty, not in the slightest. But he sees it as a stain on your life and he finds himself incensed by the idea that you’ll have to spend year after year trying to scrub it all away. Betraying his better judgement, he has already half-convinced himself to do it for you.
“How young?”
You think on it for a moment, swallowing a knot of worry. “Eighteen.”
Pope remembers his sister, then. Youth: so forcefully ripped away.
“What about him?”
“He was in college,” you shrug. The bastard never actually disclosed his exact age – one of the many things you’re too embarrassed to admit. “Hosted ragers every weekend and breezed through study. Sam’s almost five now and I still try to convince her that I had her all by myself. But I can only lie for so long.”
Pope can guess that you’re in your early twenties, a little younger than Deran. He’s only met you twice and he can already feel his resolve burning. There is a temptation to keep you here until you’ve told him every harrowing detail you can recall from the moment you learned Sam was growing in your belly up until now.
If you couldn’t afford an extra item on your grocery list, then he’d wager you really don’t have anyone at all. What he feels now is foreign to him; has him abandoning logic and sense when he plucks his wallet from his back pocket.
“What?” You’re laughing nervously as you watch him thumb through folded cash, holding out three 50s and a 20 like he’s just giving you simple change. He doesn’t budge. Doesn’t do anything to encourage you to take it either, but the notes are just loosely lodged between his index and middle fingertips. He moves his hand a fraction forward. You start shaking your head when you realise he’s being serious. “No, Jesus Christ, I can’t. I don’t even know your name.”
“Andrew,” he says it like it scraped his throat on the way out, but his eyes soften when you repeat it under your breath. A sacred thing on your tongue. He almost asks you to say it once more.
“I still can’t take this,” you shake your head again, smiling like you’re apologising. He is adamant in his stillness. “Look, I appreciate it, really. But—”
Before you can anticipate his movement, he’s swiftly slipping the cash into the front pocket of your shorts, tucking it in further even when you try to move away from him.
He steps back when you surrender, his arms hanging limp at his sides. You’re both frozen on opposite walls of the aisle with nothing but four feet and a heavy silence between you two. You start to breathe a little fast when guilt boils beneath your chest.
“It’s too much,” you bow your head and bury your face in your hands, conflicted. Under most circumstances, you’d take offence to the size of his insistence, the way his fingers demanded space for the notes in your pocket. The way he almost crowded you against the shelves behind your back, despite your attempts to swat him away.
But there were fractions of seconds where you caught the troubled crease in his brow as he fussed with your hands and your shorts. Part of his containment had cracked and sent pure anguish flashing across his face, like he’d fall apart in front of you if he couldn’t make you accept his offering. Didn’t seem motivated by pity, but rather driven by some anxious necessity.
You sniffle and audibly exhale into your palms.
His hands twitch with the ache to move. To fix. Bruised and bloodied as they are, he is overcome with the urge to wrap them around your wrists and uncover your face. Not to force you into baring the shame you’re trying to mask, but to fervidly show you that he is no stranger to it—the kind of shame that careens out of helplessness.
“For her,” he says quietly, almost pleading across the gap. Sam looks up at Pope from the floor. “Take it for her,” his voice wavers and he’s not entirely sure if he’s still referring to your child, or the one he entrusted to a family in the suburbs. The child for whom he would’ve moved mountains. And wouldn't he still? Isn't that why he continues to buy whatever he used to feed her and let it expire in the pantry? Isn't that why he's here?
You pull your hands away; eyes, glossy and red. The sight strikes him where it hurts, and he kicks himself for putting you under pressure.
He shifts on his feet, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean,” he pauses briefly, trying to breathe again, “to come on so strong.” Pope watches you dig the cash out of your pocket and reconfirm to yourself exactly how much he’s given you before you’re shaking your head again.
“Fine. I’ll…I’ll keep the 20,” you sift through the green notes in your hands, “but I am not taking the rest—”
“No, no,” he backs into the bread racks, a hand motioning in the air for you to keep the money to yourself. The moment you try to speak again, he’s off. Leaves you with nothing but a flat “goodbye” before charging down the aisle like you’re suddenly the last person he wants to see. Your heartbeat resounds in your skull.
Sam babbles about something but it’s nearly indecipherable because that man seems to have dragged all the sound away with him. Her calls accumulate and you’re pulled back into yourself. While you reluctantly slot all $150 into your wallet, your daughter reaches into the basket he left on the ground.
“What’ve you got there, Sammy?” You try to smile, coming to crouch down beside her.
Two jars. Smooth peanut butter and sweet strawberry jelly—that’s all he left. Of course, this aisle just indicates that he was initially looking for bread.
“Hmm,” you watch Sam twist the jars in the basket. “He’s a little funny, don’t you think?” You ask Sam, smoothing her hair back from her face, “An adult man shopping to make PB&J.”
You wonder, then, if he had intended to make sandwiches for a child, and have you prevented him from doing so? Did you really scare him away? You stall with Sam a little longer, guarding his basket with the pathetic hope that he might return.
One moment, and another longer. Your knees grow sore. You take the ache as your cue to leave.

Riptide
// Joel Miller x you
summary: while on a patrol, you get attacked and joel finally comes to his senses and realizes how much you mean to him and how much that hurts him to admit // 2.8k // base content: rainy weather, blood, violence (beating, strangulation), being held at gunpoint, pining
A/N: hello!! just so you all know, unless requested otherwise, all of my joel fics will be written with a 30-40 year old, nonbinary reader. i don't mind to write for specific genders or ages, i just really prefer only a 20 year old age gap myself lolol
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cloudy skies painted the horizon as you and Joel galloped out on your horses, Joel on Dallas and you on Copper. It was your third day of patrols in a row and your body was starting to get sore due to overuse, a stomach bug had made itself around Jackson and there was slack to be picked up.
Today, you and Joel were venturing West, hoping to check off some outposts being neglected at the moment. You two usually took North to East so Joel made you promise to stay close in the unfamiliar perimeter.
The ride was peaceful, the smell of rain in the distance and cool breezes whipping through your hair as you rode alongside Joel. Barring the deep rooted anxiety of the foreboding weather, you were quite content with the moment.
Eventually, you both make it to the first outpost. The horses are easy to secure to a hitch and you jump off with a soft grunt, ghosts of aches rippling through your muscles.
“Y’alright?” Joel asks, peeking a curious glance over to you as he shuffles through his side saddle for something.
“Yep, just feeling the burn of overtime,” you groan as you stretch your arms up and out, loosening what you can. You give Copper a gentle pat and a few words of assurance before you leave her side. Joel smiles softly, rolling his eyes as he finds it endearing that you keep your horse updated with words she’ll never understand.
“C’mon,” he leads, making his way to the aged hunting tower, checking any corner or crevasse for anything that might be off. His gut is unsettled as this is newer territory for him and he can’t rely on memory for what’s potentially out of place.
At the base of the tower snaked up a tree, there’s a small, wooden shed with a few chairs sitting with a log book inside. It’s a tight space, only meant to be a safe barrier between the ladder and the vast woodland surrounding area. You follow Joel inside to grab the pen and log your arrival.
09:32 - Joel and… All Clear -…
Joel tests the sturdiness of the ladder and starts to climb. You set the pen back down and shimmy off your bag, aiming to join him.
“You stay here, keep an eye out. I’m just gon’ see what I can see,” he orders simply, like you wouldn’t take offense to being left behind.
“Screw that, I wanna see the view,” you argue, starting to climb the space he’s already cleared on the ladder.
“I’m not kiddin’,” he looks back down, staring until you cave with a sigh and eye roll.
“Fine, mom,” you pick your bag back up, sticking your head out the door to check on the horses. “Just hurry, this place is too cramped,” you open the door fully.
“Be patient,” he mumbles, opening the hatch and resuming his ascent.
You leave the shed and return to Copper, petting her maine and watching Joel go higher and higher until he reaches the platform about 25 feet in the air.
Joel pulls out his binoculars and surveys the dampened landscape, finding their next post in the distance and looking for any signs of trouble. Once satisfied, he pockets the pair and looks down at you with a simple wave.
You flip him off. Lovingly, of course.
———
Back on your horses, the smoky sky is crying gloomy, misty drizzles that claim your exposed skin.
“How much farther ‘till the next post?” You ask, flipping your hood as the rain picks up.
“Not much more. ‘S bigger, we’ll be able to wait out the rain there,” he nods, squinting through the quickly filling fog. “Stay close,” he states, straightening his posture and staying alert.
It’s not like you can ride much closer to him, but you give the effort regardless since he asked. You haven’t really been able to figure him out just yet. You banter and joke around. You often share dinners or tables at town gatherings. You even fuck out some steam every once in a while.
Okay, most of the while.
But still, neither of you have confronted what it means. You could guess, take a really good guess and go from there, but that’s nothing you can build off of. You need the damn hermit to open up and assert your place in his life if there even is one.
You were never pushy, that you want to make clear. His relationship with Ellie and his commitment to her is admirable and indestructible, despite the rougher teen years that made them seem cold as ice, it was nothing you wanted to intrude on.
It wasn’t until Ellie and Dina moved in together that you started to accept the tide that was Joel Miller and no longer fought against his pull.
“There,” Joel points, pulling you out of your thoughts. In the distance, there was a melting log cabin, molded from the warp of gravity and curse of time.
“Thank god,” you scoff, uncomfortably wet by now as the rain won’t seem to let up. There’s an awning built for the horses, newer and sturdier, and Copper trots under without much convincing. Joel and Dallas follow behind.
Joel is first off, latching the gate around the shelter and going to help you down.
“Y’alright?” He asks, one hand guiding you to him by your waist and the other holding your hand for balance.
“‘M fine, just some rain,” you brush off, looking to the path that leads to the porch of the cabin.
Joel steps beside you, wiping some rain from his hairline. “We can make a run for it,” he states, looking over at you.
“Yeah, make a run for it,” you agree, turning back around to pull off anything you might need from Copper for the next few hours and go back to the gate. “Maybe-.” The words are stolen from your lips and the air forced out of your gut as an arm snakes around your waist and yanks you back.
There’s a rattle of metal and a harsh grunt in your ear. You see Joel whip out his own weapon with a stiff stoic glare, rippled by a snarl he can barely contain.
“Let them go,” Joel demands over the rain, staring right at your captor and not daring to look at you. If he only saw how fear painted your features at the surprise attack, he doesn’t think he could hold himself together.
“Drop your stuff ‘n back away,” the man behind you growls, hot breath invading your senses and making your skin scream.
Joel’s shoulders give him up, rising and falling with the weight of a freight train. He was seething. He slipped off his bag and set it down, taking a small, barely noticeable, step back.
“Grab it,” Joel says like it’s a dare, a glint in his eyes sparkling like a tiger watching its prey.
The metal beside you rattles as the man holding you captive extends his hand, aiming the rusty thing at Joel.
“Back up!” He sounds numb, like all of his effort is used to keep him up right and no passion for living holds up his words anymore as he holds you hostage. Like he’s on auto-pilot and lost to what this world made him.
You’re quick to snatch his outstretched wrist, twisting and forcing the gun out of his hand. The gun goes off as it lands, shooting through the roof of the stable and spooking the horses. The man is surprised at your sudden move but he’s quick to grab your throat and slam you against a beam of the stable.
The motion sucks all of the air out of your lungs again and they burn as you can feel the man bruising your throat. You claw at his hand, then up his arms, trying desperately to find a give but he’s anchored against you.
The rain pelts in, wetting your face and matting your hair further and you swear you must be drowning. You can hear Joel yelling and grabbing the attacker. You can feel the man get ripped off of you but you just sink to the muck beneath you as you gulp down breaths.
Your eyes daze from the impact and restrained oxygen but the color starts to come back in dizzying swirls and the sound funnels back in your ears like you're learning to hear again for the first time.
Joel has the man’s collar gripped in his fist and he’s wailing in on him. His free fist is bloody and trembling but aims stealthy back at its crumbling target. The man is slumped against the railing of the stable and with one more punch of finality, Joel sends the poor bastard through the soaked, rotted wood. He lands in the mud with a slap that spits mud up Joel’s jeans.
Blood is washed from the man’s lifeless face and puddles in the hoof prints sunken in the mud. It mixes with the rainwater and sediment, soon to be forgotten and soaked back into the Earth to provide more good that he seemed to do through the life he lived- in Joel’s opinion, at least.
“Look at me,” Joel’s voice cuts through the slicing rain around you both. He kneels in front of you and a hand- not bloodied- reaches up to cup your face. “Can you breathe? Does it hurt?” He asks too much of you. You blink, holding the moment, and open your eyes again. You nod, a simple answer for all three requests.
“C’mon, let’s get you inside,” he rises, looking off to the porch of the cabin. Your eyes drift over to the bloodied man that you’ve lost the ability to feel remorse for. If anything, he’s like a pesky bug that’s weaseled its way into your home in the old world.
The thought makes you wonder if this world has stripped you of your morals like it had the corpse just five feet away.
Joel pulls you to your feet, mud sticking to your clothes. “Gonna make a run for it,” he repeats from before the attack over the ever-persistent rain. A loose nod rocks your skull.
He leads, dragging you behind him and aiming to get the door open for you to run inside before him.
Mud splatters under your rushed footsteps and you can barely see properly through the curtains of water as you follow him. You slip on the first step of the porch but are able to recoup, with the stability from Joel, and dart past the frame and into the shelter.
Joel follows behind and latches the door behind him, shaking his head to whip out the rainwater. Gloomy skies continue to fight away the sunlight, leaving the room quite dark for noon.
The quick sprint and echo of strangulation on your skin takes its toll and Joel guides you to a chair right next to the logbook.
“Talk to me, baby.” You breathe in the word and it still can’t fill your lungs quite right. You trust him, so as his hands- both bloody and muddy- guide your jaw for him to inspect the ache, you relax. “I’m gonna press here, y’ tell me if it hurts,” he hums softly like he didn’t just beat a man to death, but you don’t mind.
His calloused fingers run along your throat, gentle and caring. You suck in a breath as he presses a particularly sensitive spot and his brows pinch as he mumbles a drawn ‘sorry’.
“Doesn’t seem anythin’s damaged beyond a bruise,” he relaxes his hands slightly so they loosely cradle your jaw. “Y’feel dizzy?” He asks, looking right in your eyes, relieved that they aren’t bloodshot.
“I’m fine,” you insist, trying to push him away but he scowls softly, narrowing his gaze.
“That asshole nearly-.”
“I’m fine, Joel,” you emphasize. “I know the difference between injury and bruising. Trust me, I’m fine,” the words scratch out and a slight wheeze accompanies your breathing, but he knows you’re right. You’ve been worse off in the past but that doesn’t make him feel better, it just reminds him of the other times he’s failed to get to you in time. Something in his gaze is different this time, though. You’d almost bet he’s convinced himself that you had succumbed to the man’s grip and now had to be buried six feet under.
“I’m here-.”
It was his turn to interrupt you and his already ideally placed palms bring you right to him. The kiss is painful for him almost. His face contorts like he’s barely making it through but he can’t pull away- not now.
Fuck, not now. It’s like his senses are cleared and everything clicks. He’s seen you attacked and hurt before, he knows the fear it is to almost lose you, but something about what just happened makes him terrified enough to bear his fear for you in this one, strained kiss that doesn’t feel like enough for him.
You accept how he melts into you, pressing back a bit but not enough where he thinks you’re rejecting him. You want this, you need it, just not as much as he seems to.
His lips only part to bring yours closer, sucking you in like the tide he his, and his breath shivers- he can blame the rain for the latter.
When he finally lets you go, his forehead leans into yours like he needs to feel you against him to remind him that you’re here.
“Joel, I’m fine,” you breathe out and the scent dusts over his face- your scent. He can’t get enough. His eyes open but he doesn’t move away, he just stares down at your lips.
“You coulda’ not been,” he admits and your stomach flips. He’s never been so raw with you before and something about it is unsettling but maybe it’s necessary to lay your roots somewhere else- somewhere deeper. “I can’t-,” he choked but he pulled back like he’s determined to get through this. His face is cooled into a gentle scowl like he’s going against everything he’s ever known and he’s aware of his crimes against himself. “Darlin’, I can’t lose you.”
Darlin’.
That’s new. It’s monumenting of his necessary betrayal.
“You mean more to me than what I’ve shown you and I’m-. I can’t keep goin’ like that. Not when-,” he gets so caught in his own words but you think you know what he’s trying to get at. Your hand, calloused but warmer and softer than what he feels he’s worthy of, reaches up to settle against his stubbled jaw. The thumb caressing his aged and worn skin that ignites under your touch is enough to let the words go and he snaps his mouth shut. His eyes follow as he tries to accept the touch that helps blurt out the words he needs to say. “I love you.”
Your shoulders melt with your head tilt as you take in his appearance- pained and scared like nothing you’ve ever seen. He’s letting you hold his heart in your hands, as deflated and scarred as it is, and he’s convinced you’ll crush it like he had that attacker's skull and he’ll remind himself that he deserves it.
“I love you too,” you admit, keeping your eyes on him as he takes his time to accept your return.
Rain pats along the frame of the old cabin like a thousand loose knuckles rapping against the wood.
He could laugh at how dense he’s been, how self-loathing and ‘woe-is-me’. Here you are, sweet, kind, marked with scars and wrinkles of your own story of life that’s shaped you into the fine, capable person you are today, and he’s acting as if the past year was measuring up to be nothing between you two.
As if the countless nights spent in each other's beds or hours of patrols or empty mornings that craved the other meant nothing but bodies against bodies.
His eyes part, taking you in a new light. That fuckers prints darken around your neck and he feels the boil under his skin but he accepts it in a new box in his mind. It’s not some worthless man attacking another because he needs to survive, it’s a man damned by his own faults the second he touched what was Joel’s, even if neither had known it at the time.
Joel’s hand reaches up to push back some wet hair from your temple, streaks of grey pepper the strands and he smiles almost unnoticeably. It barely relaxes his own cautious look he still holds.
“I love you,” he repeats, testing it out to make sure it feels right.
“I love you,” you match him, and he decides that out of your mouth, anything feels right. Especially when you’re saying it right to him.

hii, your fanfics are amazing I LOVEEEE them. Could I please request some pregnancy fic with Joaquin. I’m begging you I need it to live😩
Thank youu xoxo
Little Loves
about this; wc: 642, pairing: joaquin torres x f!reader, contents: fluff, pregnancy, weird food cravings, an: this was such a pleasure to write, I love a little fluffy moment, hope u enjoy!
danny ramirez characters masterlist
Joaquin wakes with a start, his hand finding nothing but the cold, silky sheets your shared bed is adorned with. He glances at the clock and sees that it’s 3 a.m.
Usually, if he woke up in bed alone, he would be worried about you—but your pregnancy hasn’t been an easy one. Sleep’s been hard for you; you can’t hardly get comfortable, or the baby shifts around too much as he’s grown.
There are a few places he could find you. Sometimes, you like to sit in the rocking chair in the nursery, and other times, he finds you laid out on the couch, trying to find a comfortable position.
The last place he usually finds you is where he does. You’re sitting on the kitchen floor, your round belly peeking out of your tank top, with various snacks strewn about.
Your eyes are closed as you lean against the cabinets, popping a peanut butter-dipped Oreo in your mouth before following it with a scoop of strawberry jelly.
Joaquin is used to strange things—Sam has schooled him on his big three: androids, aliens, and wizards. So it doesn’t phase him that once you’re done with your PBJ Oreo, you’re dipping a pickle in shaved ice.
“You’ok?” you mumble through bites.
“Are you?” he teases through a yawn. He maneuvers his way through your food maze and lowers himself to sit beside you, his shoulder bumping yours lightly before he stretches his legs out.
“I was hungry,” you say defensively. “Tu bebé tiene un apetito.”
“Our baby,” he corrects softly, rubbing a warm palm over your belly. His touch is slow, unthinking, like he’s trying to soothe the baby back to sleep. “Tienes hambre de algo más?”
“Mmm,” you pause, growing thoughtful as you think of all the options. Joaquin’s been thorough, making sure the kitchen is stocked with anything you could possibly want. “Those powdered donuts? Oh, and—and the cranberry juice?”
“Seguro, mi amor.”
You watch him move through the kitchen with grace, making quick work of your requests. When he comes to join again, he has a bag of spicy chips in his hand.
You raise an eyebrow at him.
“Figured I needed a snack if I was gonna keep you company.”
“Joaquin, you don’t have to stay up with me. Aren’t you and Sam heading out in a couple days?” you ask, ripping open the bag of donuts.
“Of course I have to. I’m your husband. And I want to,” he assures you. The hand not buried in a bag of chips finds its way back to your belly, tracing slow, soothing circles over your skin.
“You know, if I hadn’t married you already, I’d think you were too good to be true.” You lean over, resting your head on his shoulder, sighing when his fingers shift to rub lazy patterns along your back.
Joaquin drops a kiss on your forehead before shoveling a handful of chips into his mouth. “Means I got a good reputation.”
“Mhmm,” you murmur sleepily.
The two of you stay like that, exchanging sweet little quips through munching and crunching. Joaquin keeps his hand on your belly, rubbing absentmindedly while your breathing slows. Eventually, you doze off, your weight sinking heavier into him. He can tell by the way your breath evens out and the little hum you let out just before fully relaxing.
He doesn’t have the heart to wake you up, knowing how difficult it can be for you to get to sleep.
Sure, his back might ache a little in the morning by sleeping upright beside you, and he’ll have to restock some of your favorite snacks. But those are small inconveniences in the wake of your happiness.
He settles in, wrapping an arm around you and pulling you close before letting his own eyes flutter shut. “Dulces sueños, mi amorcitos.”

Hi! Could you do The Doctor x Reader where the Doctor turned the reader into a humanoid animatronic(?) toy when he was still Sawyer? Maybe they rejected him when they were human, found out about the experiments etc. I'll leave it up to you~
imagining so much angst for this one! (I might actually write a fic for once)
HARLEY SAWYER X READER FANFIC
CONTENT WARNING: death
Tumblr media
Youu were first assigned to work with Harley Sawyer (to say this man was annoyed would be an understatement. He didn't want to work with anyone else). Eventually Sawyer warmed up to you, liking how well you contributed to his work. And soon, he caught himself catching feelings for you, and you caught feelings for him. You two would subtly flirt all the time during work.
And soon, due to your intellect, you climbed the ranks, from intern to researcher to junior researcher to senior researcher to second in command beside Sawyer.
And the more your rank grew, you more you learned about the experiments they were doing. The Bigger Bodies Initiative. And the more disgusted you became. They were using CHILDREN? The children they had said they would find loving homes for. They were using children to make monsters. And Harley Sawyer, your love, was at the front of it all.
To say the reader broke down would be an understatement. You had loved a monster all this time. You felt disgusted with yourself. With your job. With your feelings, your heart, everything. But, you still loved this man. So, you kept it down. But in the back of your mind, there was a voice saying you shouldn't love this man.
This voice made you become resentful. When he finally asked you out, you let everything out. You insulted him, called him a monster, and said you'd never date someone like him. This made him very angry. How DARE you reject him. You were HIS! HIS AND NOBODY ELSE'S! And you and Harley grew apart. Argument after argument. To be honest, he both hated and liked your new "feisty personality". Others saw you as a danger for how outspoken against the experiments you had become. Whispered threats were thrown around in the background. But Sawyer insisted that your knowledge was important. And it brought you some fear that Sawyer was the only reason you weren't ending up as food for an experiment or dead at the hands of a researcher or task force. I mean, he couldn't let the only one he loved die now, could he? He had to come up with another plan, before the others took matters into their own hands.
Meanwhile, you had your own plan. To save the orphans. To out Playtime Co as the monsters they truly were. But you were too late. As you went to leave the lab, to quit your job, to enact the first phase of your plan, Sawyer grabbed you and held you back, taunting you with "squirm all you want germ" and "you would be lucky to be with SOMEONE like me". He knocked you out, and made you into one of his experiments.
He made you into an animatronic version of yourself. To capture your beauty for all eternity. When you awoke, all you could feel was anger, and, in the back of your mind, heartbreak.
After the Day of Joy, you had made it your mission to find Harley and eliminate him. And you killed or hurt anyone else who stood in between you and him. You had become what you had sworn to destroy. A monster, fueled by anger, rage, and hatred.
Then came the day you finally made your way to him.
Needless to say.... you didn't stand a chance.
And as you laid dying in his robotic arms, you didn't feel....anger. You didn't feel the disgust at the actions of what he had done. You felt....regret. Guilt. A pang in your heart that you had only felt when you had started working at Playtime Co. alongside Dr.Sawyer.
And for the first time in a long time, you looked at Sawyer with something more than disgust and anger. You stared at him with love. As the light faded from your eyes, you reached for his cheek...well, the side of his TV, and smiled, your animatronic eyes betraying your current state; your eyes depicted peace and love. You watched as his eye slowly turned fearful. He gripped your animatronic form tighter, holding onto something so fragile. You fell limp, taking your final breath in his arms. And he held tighter.
The look of horror in his eye when you reacted with love instead of rage and fear for the first time in many years could not be described. He felt...sadness. Regret. Grief. For the first time in his life.
He sat there in shock for the longest time.
And then....willpower, longing, a strong desire, overtook his mind.
No. NO. He has to find a way to bring you back. He has to bring you back. He HAS TO. He will bring you back. He WILL bring you back. He WILL find a way.
"I will bring you back."
"My dear love."
"I don't care what it will cost me."
"This isn't how I'll let it end...."
Tumblr media
I hope this was what you were expecting! I don't really write fics, I normally write....oneshots? Headcanons? But I saw the prompt and had to go for it! I'm honestly really proud of how this turned out.

Friends With Benefits |pazzi|

-
It wasn’t a plan.
No one sat down and said this is what we are — there were no rules, no boundaries, no timeline. Just two people who spent a lot of time together. Who laughed a little too hard at each other’s jokes. Who sometimes lingered after practice, eyes locked a little too long across the gym.
And eventually, a night where Azzi leaned against her doorframe in a hoodie and shorts, and Paige stepped into her apartment like she belonged there.
That was the first time.
No big moment. No strings.
And maybe that’s what made it easy.
At first.
They never talked about it. Not the first time, or the second, or the seventh. Azzi would text Paige after lift, a simple you up? or bring snacks. Paige would show up. Hoodie, slides, her usual crooked grin. They’d mess around, sometimes fall asleep tangled up, other times not.
It was light. Familiar. Comfortable in a way that made too much sense.
“We’re just chillin’,” Paige told KK once, when she caught the way she looked at them in the film room.
Azzi told Ice the same thing the next week.
No one really bought it.
But no one pushed, either.
They were careful, in their own way.
No kissing in public.
No holding hands.
No overnight texts unless they were already in the same bed.
And it worked.
Until it didn’t.
It wasn’t just about the physical part. That came easy. Too easy. Paige knew exactly how Azzi liked her coffee in the morning. Azzi always remembered to steal extra protein bars for Paige after away games. They had inside jokes. Routines. Favorites.
But they never let it be anything more.
Not out loud.
Not where it counted.
It started to shift in ways neither of them said anything about.
Paige noticed that Azzi never posted pictures of her. Not even a blurry background cameo on her story. She knew Azzi was private, but still. It stuck with her.
Azzi noticed someone comment “miss u” on Paige’s most recent Instagram post. She’d liked it without thinking. It made Azzi’s chest tight in a way she didn’t have words for.
But neither of them brought it up.
They kept pretending.
Kept moving.
It unraveled slowly.
That’s what made it worse — the fact that there wasn’t a single fight or blow-up, just a gradual slipping. A quiet growing apart. Like missing each other in their own shared space.
Paige noticed it first in the way Azzi didn’t reach for her hand anymore after. How she didn’t lean in to kiss her shoulder in the dark like she used to. How the silence started stretching longer between conversations.
Azzi felt it too. Paige stopped staying as long. She’d pull on her hoodie faster. Mumbling “gotta get up early tomorrow”even when they both knew she didn’t.
Still, they kept coming back. Kept showing up. Kept telling themselves it wasn’t serious, so it couldn’t really hurt.
But it did.
The last time it happens, Paige stays late at practice. Azzi’s already home when she shows up. There’s a movie playing, something Paige picked without asking.
Azzi’s quiet the whole night. Her laugh is soft, but her eyes don’t match it.
They hook up.
It’s slower than usual. Not out of passion, but something heavier — like they’re both holding on too tightly to something already slipping away.
After, Paige lies beside her, fingers brushing Azzi’s bare waist. Azzi doesn’t move closer. She just stares at the ceiling.
“You good?” Paige asks softly, her voice barely above the hum of the TV still playing in the background.
Azzi nods.
“Yeah,” she says.
But she doesn’t mean it.
And Paige knows it.
She leaves before sunrise.
Azzi wakes up alone.
She doesn’t text.
Paige doesn’t call.
And neither of them says goodbye.
Two weeks later, Paige sees her at a team hangout — sitting across the room, head tilted toward a girl Paige’s never seen before, someone new, someone with long braids and easy laughter and hands that rest a little too comfortably on Azzi’s knee.
Paige doesn’t say a word.
Just watches from across the room.
Later, when someone asks if she’s okay, she shrugs. “Yeah. Why wouldn’t I be?”
A week after that, Paige brings someone to the team dinner.
She’s tall. Pretty. A bit too loud. Laughs at all of Paige’s dumb jokes.
Azzi watches from her spot at the end of the table. Doesn’t say much. Smiles when people talk to her. Pretends she’s fine.
KK clocks it immediately. Leans over to Ice and mutters, “They’re gonna explode.”
No one disagrees.
But for now, they keep pretending.
They’re not in love.
They’re not jealous.
They’re just chillin’.
Even if it’s killing them.
Paige sees them together for the first time in a real way at that charity event the team’s forced to attend.
Black outfits. Media passes. High ceilings and polite claps. Azzi shows up with the same girl from the team hangout — her name’s Jada, apparently. She works with the athletic department, helps with NIL deals. She's all smiles and polished charm and the kind of presence that makes you notice when she walks into a room.
She has her arm around Azzi’s waist the whole night.
Paige tries not to care.
She’s brought someone too. Tia — volleyball player, grad student, pretty and warm and not from this world. She says all the right things. Laughs at all the right moments.
But Paige can’t stop watching Azzi.
Even when she looks away.
Especially when she catches Azzi looking back.
“Y’all okay?” KK asks, bumping Paige’s hip as they wait in line for something unnecessarily overpriced.
Paige sips her drink and shrugs. “What do you mean?”
KK lifts a brow. “You haven’t blinked since we got here.”
Paige forces a laugh. “I’m chill.”
KK hums. “Sure.”
Paige doesn’t say anything else. Just stares down into her cup like it holds some kind of answer.
Later, Azzi walks by her in the hall near the photo booth setup.
They don’t say anything at first.
Just a glance. A breath.
Then Azzi, stopping: “You clean up nice.”
Paige lifts a shoulder. “Tried to match your energy.”
Azzi’s smile is tight. “You did.”
There’s a pause. Not awkward, just heavy.
Azzi’s voice drops slightly. “She’s pretty.”
Paige nods. “So is Jada.”
Another pause.
“You look happy,” Paige says.
Azzi’s gaze doesn’t move. “Do I?”
“You want me to say no?”
“I want you to tell the truth.”
Paige swallows.
Azzi’s the one to walk away this time.
That night, Paige gets in bed with Tia and feels everything too sharply. The way her sheets feel colder than usual. The way Tia kisses her like it’s easy. The way she doesn’t flinch when Paige rolls to the edge of the bed to avoid too much contact.
Tia doesn’t notice.
Or maybe she does.
And pretends she doesn’t.
Just like Paige.
Azzi doesn’t last much longer either.
Two weeks into “official” with Jada, they go out to a small team dinner. The music is loud, everyone’s talking over each other, and Azzi is smiling so hard her cheeks start to hurt.
She doesn’t see Paige come in until Jada’s hand finds her lower back and Paige’s voice cuts through it all with a quiet, “Hey.”
Azzi turns.
Paige’s hair is pulled back. She’s in a cropped hoodie and jeans. She looks… good.
Too good.
Azzi clears her throat. “Didn’t know you were coming.”
Paige shrugs. “Wasn’t going to. KK dragged me.”
They stand there too long, just looking.
Jada slides her hand back into Azzi’s. It feels wrong the second it happens.
Paige nods toward it. “You two seem good.”
Azzi answers too fast. “Yeah.”
Paige gives a tight smile. “Cool.”
Azzi doesn’t say anything.
Doesn’t correct herself.
Even though she kind of wants to.
That night, Jada asks if she’s okay. Says she feels Azzi slipping.
Azzi lies.
Says she’s just tired.
Then she spends the next hour staring at a picture Paige posted on her story — a blurry shot of a Gatorade bottle and her socks on the couch.
And the background.
The edge of her old hoodie on the coffee table.
The one Paige never gave back.
They don’t text.
But both of them are reading into everything.
One teammate’s like, “You and Paige cool?”
Azzi says yeah.
Another asks Paige what happened with Azzi.
Paige says, “Nothing.”
Nothing.
Like that word doesn’t mean everything.
Paige’s phone buzzes twice on her nightstand. Then a third time, harder. She doesn’t even look at it.
Her date — the one she’s been “sort of” seeing, the one with the playlists and the folded sweatshirt Paige never asked to keep — is sitting on the edge of her bed, arms crossed, eyes sharp.
“I’m not stupid,” she says.
Paige finally looks up.
“I didn’t say you were.”
“You think I don’t notice the way you freeze when she walks in? How your voice drops when you talk about her?”
Paige stays quiet.
“She’s still in here,” the girl says, pressing her palm to her own chest. “And you know it.”
Paige swallows hard.
“I can’t compete with someone you never got over,” she says, and this time it’s not angry — it’s just sad.
And that’s worse.
Paige doesn’t argue.
Because she’s right.
They don’t talk again after that.
Azzi’s comes undone just as quietly.
It’s after practice. Jada’s waiting outside, in her car like always, hair tied up, sunglasses on.
Azzi climbs in, tosses her bag into the back.
Jada doesn’t say hi.
“Where were you last night?”
Azzi doesn’t answer.
“You said you’d come over.”
Azzi shifts in her seat. “I forgot.”
“No, you didn’t.”
Azzi looks at her.
Jada’s jaw clenches. “It’s her, isn’t it?”
There’s no use denying it.
Azzi nods. Just once.
And the silence that follows is louder than anything she could’ve said.
Neither of them talks to the team about it. But the team knows.
Sarah watches Paige drop 26 in scrimmage, then walk out without talking to anyone.
KK catches Azzi staring at the bleachers like someone’s supposed to be there.
Even Ice, who usually keeps to her own lane, looks between them one day and mutters to herself, “Just kiss already or go cry in a parking lot.”
The breaking point doesn’t come big.
It happens at a team dinner. Nothing special. Someone brought cookies. Everyone’s loud and joking.
Paige is quiet.
Azzi walks in late. Eyes find Paige without even trying.
And it’s KK who finally breaks.
“I swear to God,” she says, standing up mid-story. “If I have to watch y’all look at each other from across the room one more time like this is some CW drama—”
Paige blinks.
Azzi blinks.
KK points between them. “Go outside. Figure it out. Lock yourselves in a room. I don’t care.”
Sarah claps once. “I’ve been WAITING.”
Even Ice nods. “Clocked it months ago.”
Azzi opens her mouth to argue.
Paige doesn’t.
She just stands up.
“Come on,” she says quietly.
And Azzi follows.
They end up outside on the porch. The night is cool. The air feels thick.
Neither of them speaks at first.
Then Paige turns around, arms folded over her chest.
“You said I was still yours.”
Azzi nods. “I meant it.”
“You don’t get to say that.”
“I know.”
They stare.
“I tried to move on,” Paige says. “Really tried.”
“So did I.”
“Why didn’t it work?”
Azzi’s voice is soft. “Because I still wanted you.”
Paige exhales hard.
“I didn’t know how to ask for more,” Azzi adds. “I thought if I did, I’d lose you completely.”
“You lost me anyway.”
“I know.”
“And I didn’t fight for you either,” Paige says, the words like gravel. “I just… let it happen.”
Azzi steps closer. “We both did.”
The porch is quiet.
Azzi’s voice cracks. “But I never stopped.”
Paige looks at her.
“Loving you,” Azzi clarifies, eyes shining. “Even when I wasn’t allowed to say it.”
Paige’s heart stumbles.
“You still love me?” she asks, barely audible.
Azzi nods.
Paige steps forward. Closer. Inches away now.
“I never stopped either,” she whispers.
And that’s it.
That’s everything.
The first kiss back is gentle. Not rushed. Not desperate. Just full of everything they’ve been too scared to say.
They stay there like that. Foreheads together. Hands clasped at the middle. Breathing like it’s the only way to hold steady.
When they walk back in, nobody says a word.
But everyone knows.
Because sometimes love doesn’t have to be clean.
It just has to come back.

What do you think Sokka, Zuko, Korra, Asami, Bolin and Mako would do as aftercare for their S/O?
Oh! I've written aftercare for Korrasami fics before but never for the other characters.
Pairing: Sokka, Zuko, Korra, Asami Sato, Bolin, Mako x Reader
Tags: fluff, suggestive, kissing, naked cuddles, praise, scratches, teasing, lipstick marks, eating together
Ko-Fi | Rules | Fandoms and Characters
A/N: Yes, the things I wrote in my Korassami fics are transferred in here. I've had these headcanons since I started writing Korrasami fics, I can't let go of them.
Tumblr media
SOKKA
Is all about that pillow talk. There might be a humble brag thrown in somewhere in there, but generally speaking he wants to make sure you're okay. He's really tuned into how you talk to him after, he's clinging onto every word you as as hard as he's clinging onto you. Starts to sound a bit sleepy as he rambles on, eventually drifting off to sleep next to you.
ZUKO
Doesn't want to make it sound like he's fishing for compliments and praise but he is. Constantly in fact, during the act and especially after. He likes to know he did good, he might have seen it, felt it, but he wants you to let him know even more. His hand is holding yours while he pulls you next to him and he kisses your forehead, affirming to you that he had a good time too.
KORRA
Would really like to cuddle but not before she fetches food and water for you both. It's really important that you both keep your energies up. You never know if you might want a round 2, or 3, or 4. So it's always good to eat and drink afterwards. She will bite and lick your fingers if you try to feed her anything and if you try to steal her food you'll find yourself pinned against the bed.
ASAMI
Smirks at you as she counts the many lipstick marks she left on your body. Her finger tickling you, making you shiver under her touch and she likes it, she likes how easy it is to tease you, wind you up. Maybe she's doing it purposely, maybe she's just helping you calm down and likes the physical contact. Either way she'll leave at least one mark for you to see when you walk up to the mirror.
BOLIN
Pulls you on top of him and snuggles his face against your neck. Don't tell him about the sweat or any other fluids, he doesn't mind one bit, he wants to cuddle with you now. He always makes you feel safe and appreciated, even if he does get rougher if you ask him for some roleplay, he is an actor after all. But he is also mindful not to hold you too hard, he doesn't want to hurt you.
MAKO
Never admits how much he likes the scratch marks you leave on his back, arms and thighs but you always catch him looking at them in the mirror afterwards. As soon as he notices you're fully awake again he rushes to kiss you deeply, his tongue seeking yours. Usually he's pretty stoic but in bed he's always passionate. He wants to return all the affection you show to him on the regular basis.
