Jin Guangyao is really out here like "I am going to get a good grade in Accidental Incest Husband, something that is both normal to want and possible to achieve".
#mo dao zu shi#the untamed#mdzs#grandmaster of demonic cultivation#jin guangyao#mdzs spoilers#mo xiang tong xiu#tbh I feel like 'I am going to get a good grade in X' is just a large part of JGY's driving life philosophy in general#and sometimes it's in normal things#which is why he is genuinely great at basically every job he's ever had#up to and including leading the entire cultivation world#but for example I also fully believe he went off to spy on Wen Ruohan like#'I am going to get a good grade in Torturing People'#(and he did!)#and then when people are Aghast at these things he's like#'Why are you mad at me?? I did such a good job!! I never missed a homework assignment!'#it doesn't matter if the curriculum is Accidental Incest Marriage or Torturing People what should matter is he ACED it#that's basically the conversation he's having with Qin Su here I think

Any random descendants headcanons you want to share?
I know I've been holding on to this ask for ages, but fear not!! I have FINISHED MOVING MOSTLY (I just have a couple boxes of craft supplies left to unpack, and tbh I mostly keep those in storage bins for organization anyway so it's fineeee) AND I HAVE SOME ENERGY ONCE AGAIN.
Because I've been hearing a lot lately about my irl coworker's kid and her battle with school (she's been suspended twice in the last two weeks! And one of those weeks was spring break!) here's some VK school headcanons.
As all of us book fans know, Carlos and Evie love school. They're TRAGIC, HOPELESS NERDS.
Building on this, I think that Evie loves school so much that she's chronically overscheduling herself. She's the girl who takes a full course load plus a bonus class just for fun, plus four or five extracurriculars.....plus of course she's doing the most for her required Auradon Prep volunteer hours, and on top of that she's running her fashion empire. She's the girl who has an absolutely ruthless schedule for herself, and she's never without her planner. During AP finals week, she's the one who schedules herself a five-minute cry break in the library, and then when her alarm goes off, she stops crying and gets back to work. She's spent so long being castle-schooled that she is not giving up a single moment now that she can experience school to the fullest.
As a Very Important Headcanon Note, I do believe that Auradon Prep has a volunteer hours requirement for all students. They've got to have....something like 35 hours of volunteer work each year, which is about an hour a week if we're following a standard US school schedule.
Lonnie organizes fun runs for charity as her volunteer hours. She's got a couple other international students on board too, and they work together on it. One of the school faculty supervises them and signs off on the hours. She organized one for the benefit of the isle, not that she's going to admit as much to the VKs.
Evie refuses to participate in any Isle-based charity drives. She's on the junior kingdom advisory council, and that's enough time spent thinking about home the isle for her. Her school-sanctioned volunteer work is with an organization that helps bring fun STEM experiments into the public elementary schools. Of course she's going to design experiments that let the kids have a little bit of explosives. As a treat. The little girls deserve to know that they can look cute and cause chaos!
Mal failed the required safety training, and isn't allowed to go into the elementary school with Evie. Apparently if you put curse words in every single one of your write-in answers, the school decides that you're not worthy of being a role model for the youth.
She's getting her volunteer hours by working in the museum archives. It's mostly scanning boring, dusty old books into a digital archive. Totally dull stuff. She's only doing it because it keeps her away from the innocent public for her volunteer hours, and she's definitely not reading the books in the museum archive, which are mostly there because the kingdom did a very badly organized roundup of magical books when the magic ban first went into place, and nobody ever organized the piles of random spell books that have been collecting dust in the archive since. Totally not reading them.
On an unrelated note, Mal's been sent to in-school suspension once every three weeks (the maximum amount that she can get away with before the consequences start stacking up) for accidental fire-related property destruction. On the plus side, she knows how to cast fireball now!
Jay and Carlos are both doing their volunteer work through the on-campus junior sports teams. They're teaching adorable elementary students how to hit balls and not trip over their own feet. Jay is thriving. He loves kids and being adored. He's got a pack of under-ten kids who think he's the coolest thing ever. He gets to toss them around like boneless little sacks of meat, and they love him for it. He's doing great. Carlos is.....surviving. He's got two surly little pre-goth kids who are only in sports because their parents made them sign up, and they think he's the coolest student coach because he threatens them with physical violence when they don't participate.
Middle school kids aren't required to do volunteer work, but Dizzy and Celia are HYPE to get student volunteer access to the AP chemistry labs once they're old enough to volunteer as lab cleaners.
Squeaky and Squirmy are planning on running away to sea before they get to high school. They have not told anyone about this plan.
Uma's pirates will eventually get a singular year of high school education each, during which they will cause at least thirteen new behavioral rules to be added to the AP handbook.
Gil volunteers to crochet blankets for the Auradon City hospital, and accidentally finds his calling as a baby whisperer. Tiny babies love him. He's huge and warm and used to handling kids from all his half-siblings that keep popping up on the isle. What he lacks in critical thinking skills he makes up for in literally just picking up a kid and making them fall asleep.
Uma creates a new volunteer position where she sits in the Isle Affairs office and bullies the adult coordinators relentlessly. She has one of them signing off on her volunteer paperwork, and another one of them paying her under the table for her consulting services.
Harry is exempt from volunteer work, due to the unmitigated violence that lives in his soul. Also, he's like twenty, and refuses to do even a singular year of high school. He spends the time that Uma's choosing to waste in high school auditing college-level psychology classes so that he can learn better ways of psychologically tormenting their rivals.
#my fic#fic ref#Auradon Prep is a magnet school for royalty and royalty-adjacent people#I firmly believe that their curriculum is insane#they’ve got volunteer requirements for ALL high school students!#they’ve got required current events classes every semester!!#they’ve got insane finals that are meant to prepare students for college exams#and in reality just prepare them for a lifetime of substance abuse!!!#the adderall resale value at AP is through the roof#I know this in my heart#Evie sleeps with her planner in her bed#she lost it once and had the only full blown panic attack of her life about it#in her defense it was during midterms so it was justified

This is an episode series of Cultish I listened to on hiatus, and while I know I've got LDS followers, it's geared toward Christians and I'm chiefly recommending it to my Christian followers.
These guys are part of a Reformed ministry to Mormons in Utah. They, like myself, have many Mormon friends and loved ones, so while the podcast name may seem inflammatory, it is meant to be literal & earnest, as they have immeasurable compassion not only for Mormons, but for all members of cults, from vanilla conspiracy theorists to literal Nazi colonies. They're not here to say, "Look how loony these people are," but rather, "There but for the grace of God go we."
Because their main evangelical focus is in apologetics, it's very important to them that their textual and historical information be accurate and their discussions accurately reflect the (quite diverse) views and professions of Mormons themselves.
As the LDS church's mainstream profile grows, in both negative ways--such as the countless new docudramas you can find streaming on any platform--and positive ways--such as the rise of Angel Studios--I think it's important that Christians understand what they ACTUALLY believe and how they ACTUALLY got there.
This series is by no means exhaustive (only one season is complete), but it is a great start.
#every few years I get this surge of motivation to learn more about Mormonism#and on a fun note it's been very enlightening as I re-read Brandon Sanderson#x#Christianity#Cultish#my mom's bestie is Mormon and I still remember visiting her Temple as a kid for a Trunk-or-Treat#she lives far away now but sends my mom a package every year for Halloween#say what you will she was the only sane person in our middle-of-nowhere neighborhood when we lived in Oklahoma#my mom persuaded her to homeschool and she -almost- used our curriculum instead of the LDS one lol#she was also the first adult who asked me to call her just by her first name. I was so scandalized XD#she also introduced me to Harry Potter. that's a big one#oh and her kids were the first ones I ever babysat#I'm pretty sure now they've all gone on their missions#when I was a teenager and mentioned somewhere online that I wanted to read Mistborn? I received HER OWN COPY in the mail days later#stop i'm gonna cry#Youtube

Telling my art teacher that I want to go as Agent Elrond for Halloween and then she responds “In 2024?!”
(She was a huge Matrix/LOTR fan way back in the day. I once even found her fanfiction.net account with a Neo x Smith songfic with the lyrics of She Loves Me Not by Papa Roach)
#agent smith#hugo weaving#elrond#the matrix#lord of the rings#lotr#halloween#but tbh its not every day you find your teacher’s fanfiction.net account that’s been abandoned since 2006#but let me tell you she was LIVIN IT UP in 2003#technically she's an art teacher but she's upset that the school curriculum doesnm't provide art so she disguises her art lessons as histor#last year we got to do a tim burton art project and I loved it

it hurts me deeply to my core to not do the very best I can and get really good results. and it's likely going to disappoint people I love. but like. I think I'm gonna have to bite the bullet, accept that I'm not gonna pass some classes, and just focus on the other shit. goodbye literature class.
#romanian lit class every week expecting you to read 1 novel or 2/3 poetry books a week#english lit class expecting you to read 1 novel every other week#english lit class number 2 expecting you to read a novel every other week (yes this is a different one)#essay class expecting you to read 2 essays every other week#short story class expecting you to read a short story every week#comparative lit class expecting you to read 1 or 2 books every other week#any two of these in any combination could be fine I guess but still a bit much considering THESIS!!!!#which is why I've only been managing to perform well in romanian lit class and short story class and until now essay class (but I can't#do it anymore man I just can't.) I just need someone to validate how shit my curriculum is. I have other classes too btw.#this is just the literature ones. and no I did not pick any of this that's not how the system works here#you do not pick classes at will and you do not drop classes at will. you are just assigned classes and they are all mandatory#let's all kill ourselves (remembers I have people I care about who care about me) Let's actually not do that

i hope everyone is enjoying the occasional "day in the life of someone whose real ass job is singing and dancing with toddlers" segment here at beneath silver stars dot tumblr dot com
#our curriculum kinda rigorous as fuck though...#we always have at least one song with a weird meter per semester - this time it's a 3 3 4 4 3 3 4 4 deal#and there's so many rules. for lesson planning#each week we have to do at least 3 non-majors at least 3 non-duples at least 2 songs without words#and there's always a solid handful of songs in other languages in every collection#this time we have... spanish russian french and yiddish#(the russian and yiddish songs both have english translation verses too though)#and something from the torres strait islands that's so old that no one knows what it means#and ofc there's all kinds of guidelines about how to plan the overall arc of the lesson and how to present each song#and they're very good guidelines. very successful. but very particular#it's like. it's not *hard* but it does take a solid bit of dedicated planning to make a really good lesson plan#sometimes i'm really good at it.. but sometimes i kinda phone it in.... but this one is good!!!#starting strong!!!#silver.chat

“uh duh I paid attention in history class, I got an A” skill issue. I slept through every single history class and still got an A
#this has been a post#also thinking about how much they genuinely did not teach us in my history classes#versus what you usually see people say ‘they didn’t teach us this in history class!’#I swear every time I’ve seen someone use that as an excuse. it’s about something they 100% did teach in my school#(in my school as a qualifier because I am Well Aware your mileage may vary depending on such factors as#what country you live in. how much funding your school has. how good your teacher is. what your curriculum is#basically there’s no guarantee of anyone learning any particular piece of history in school)

Answering your tags in the children’s rights post, no, not where I attended school (US public school). I wasn’t even aware the UN made a document about it until now, which is unsurprising for the US but nonetheless aggravating
every day I learn something more horrifying about the US education system.
I'm pretty sure we read the children's rights when I was in grade 5 here in Australia? so I would've been 8 or 9 or so. I have no idea if this was standardised so really idk what I'm surprised about. but man that was something that built a foundation of autonomy for me as a kid that I could fall back on when I was scared... I have the right to safety. I have the right to xyz. seems important I think.
#recently learned from my american bfs that neither of them got in depth persuasive writing education#in their english classes at school or whatever#meanwhile thats a MAJOR and EXHAUSTIVE part of the curriculum here#and suddenly I'm understanding why the internet is full of americans with no ability to formulate an argument#it literally wasn't taught to you!!!!!!!!!!!!#that's fucking scary#when i say a major part of the curriculum here#i mean we were writing persuasive essays every year from year 7 onwards at the EARLIEST#we were analysing advertising and articles and media for persuasive techniques#persuasive analysis and essay writing was part of our final exams#such a backbone foundational part of the english curriculum here i cannot fathom what school is like without it#this is How i learned to write an essay. in persuasive format#that's an aside from the child rights thing but like#idk it's genuinely scary to me lmfao#what do you mean they didnt teach you persuasive writing. it explains a lot but what do you mean.#the system speaks#anon

my writing workshop lecturer has a lot of stories with really interesting prose on her curriculum but they're all so cynical and unmedicayed depression core that i'm like girl are you ok. like it's one thing to have kind of that gorgeous rich idiosynchratic mix of seemingly comtradictory emotions for another character in media it's another thing for it to be like. this was narrated by someone who dreads being alive do you know what i mean
#i like stories like this sometimes but girl if they are all like this i will need to take like a puppynap at least#also i think some of the analysis i'm seeing of some of the short stories is a bit reductive in a similarly cynical way#but we don't have to get into that#karinyo.txt#college#i think the best way to describe it is like every short story in her curriculum revolves around her central fictional thesis of mistrust#and disillusionment with other people. and calling that realistic or true or truer than other things#and i think it's kind of clouding more interesting interpretations of some of tje text#like some of tje short stories are genuonely gloomy which is fine and great#and some of them are like. actually i tjink there's a lot of untapped richness and complexity here that we're not getting bc#the right answer seems to be that everyone is equally 'bad' or whatever

it makes me sad how often textile arts are ignored as actual art forms, and are relegated to the disregarded realm of 'old lady hobbies'. there is so much skill involved, such a broad diversity of forms, but so many people straight up do not think of things like crochet or quilting as art.
#i mean apprenticing with a textile artist as a teen definitely changed how i view quilts and tapestries#before then i had never really realized what was possible or what was involved in creating these things#but i think everyone should at least be taught how to sew and either knit or crochet as a child.#that should just be part of standard school curriculum.#textile art should be taught as a unit in art classes right alongside oil painting - the history of goes back even farther and is so#culturally important to literally every culture in the world and yet it is almost never considered academically the way paintings are.

i think one thing i frequently forget about teyvat lore is how. nobody knows jackshit about khaneri'ah. like i know we know because we're out and about looking at stuff that would get us celestia nailed if they cared enough actively. but if you asked the average citizen they'd treat us like they treat fischl
#does teyvat have history classes.#-> if so. how indoctrinating are said history classes#' oh yeah. the khaneriahns only really made bread and food with their alchemy; so celestia cursed & murdered them for their transgressions-#most insane shit being said#i respect the. determination#its so funny; every other interpretation of khaneriah DIRECTLY contradicts itself#what the hell is the curriculum around it. or do they not teach it#'teacher; what happened over this huge gap in history?' 'uh.'#crepe rambles
