Body Memories & Unique Softness
I think one of many things that makes Xavier so cute is his emphasis on memory.

He's made it clear once he likes someone, he doesn't plan on stopping. He plans on incorporating you into his life. He wants you to get used to being with him forever, even if it's in your memories.

The use of body memories is also something I'm very fond of, that idea that even if you forget something your body remembers, because in a romantic way it's as if the heart and soul remembers. He worries he'll never be able to see you again, hear you again. What if you turn into stardust in his arms again?
Personally, even in the Intimacy Cards I think there is unique softness in Xavier confessing his fear that all of his senses will fail when he needs them the most, because in Xavier's case it has already had dire consequences. Sure, it could be simple PWP, but it can also be interpreted as guilt manifesting.
He was already not fast enough, what if next time he can't feel you or hear you call his name? If he doesn't connect with you by now, does that mean he's a lost cause?

Xavier only sees you. Only wants to be with you. He is running on sapped energy and yet, wants to spend the whole day by your side. If he falls asleep, he wants you to wake him up. If you're in trouble, he doesn't want you to worry about burdening him. When he falls, he trusts his Partner to catch him. He's not just your accomplice and you're not just his acquaintance. This is a romance is built on complete trust.
You are Partners. Xavier is going at the same pace as you as MC because he wants to be on the same page. He loves you; You as MC are special and important to him, so of course that's the case. He wants to feel you with all of your senses in the hopes that you will never forget him.
He buys books about Date Ideas and How To Make Your Intentions Clear, and waxes poetic in the vastness of space knowing his betrothed might not ever hear it, because he misses you.

Even as Prince of Philos, he only wanted to rule with if you (as MC) were by his side. He discovered planets as a Lightseeker and thought, "She would love this." He proposed the night before learning Starfall Forest was consuming his people made him resort to a half baked plan to save your life out of desperation. Because he thought he could deal with it quickly, just like when you were classmates and just like in your MCs current life.

Yet and still, Xavier even wants to see you in his dreams. He only thinks of you on two occasions: that's day and night. You are his star and he is yours. You'll protect him and he'll protect you.
Xavier really is the best ִֶָ𓂃 ࣪˖ ִֶָ🐇་༘࿐๋ ࣭ ⭑๋ ࣭ ⭑
#lads xavier#cartomancy#l&ds xavier#lnds xavier#love and deepspace#セイヤ#Xavier is the best partner I'm tired of being shy about it (yes this whole blog dedicated to him was me being shy sshhhhhhhuuushhhh hush!)#Xavier can't cook but who cares? He can roll up his sleeves and try. he can take on any odd job.#he's a florist he's a fisherman he's a babysitter he's a seasoned fighter#he can be brown he can be blue he can be violet sky#he's a bitch he's a lover he's a child he's a MOTHA#Now I don't know much about algebra but I know Xavier lol I know his intricacies because he's my type of character#I decided to look at the weird takes today and... ykw have fun its hard to interpret media and develop literacy.#I just came away thinking... people need to read harder books... I think the subtlety is getting lost not in translation but also#the critical thinking this might take might be hard for people who don't take the lore and reading serious?#which is weird to me because it is an otome game meaning its a visual novel game. it has bells and whistles but its still a reading game#outside of the spicy cards being spicy the conversations are important too because in intimacy is where Xavier finds solace in vulnerabilit#He can't even let his guard down when he's asleep because those naps are induced by the power collar constantly sapping his energy#or the Backtrackers are chasing him or someone recognized him from 50 years ago#those intimate moments are letting us see an even more vulnerable side of him. A side not just anyone sees. A side only you bring him to.#which is probably why body count imagines are lame. Plain & simple what's romantic about being on some guy's roster??? just say you're weir#my bad i had a POWER THOUGHT#i wanna tag this something fun like

I opened a BIG can of worms at work today by asking about teflon tape on gas cylinder regulators and it turns out there's a big methodological debate about whether or not to use it. Does it improve the seal or increase the risk of getting tape fragments caught in places they shouldn't be, thereby worsening sealing? Is there a risk of contaminating the regulator with unwanted and potentially dangerous (e.g. flammable) substances that might be on the tape?
And then my coworker goes "We don't have teflon tape around anymore. I think [former coworker who left before I got here] used nail polish?"
I am praying he's just confused about what liquid sealant is and that it was not actual nail polish. But I am afraid because apparently in the past, some people were not great about lab safety. (The current stringentness - which I am genuinely thrilled about - seems to be in response to that.) I have heard all kinds of horror stories, and this former coworker might also be the one who I'm told left a beaker of mystery purple liquid sitting around with no label other than "do not touch."
#to be fair i did a lot of digging and can't find any reg that says you can't use teflon tape#a lot of people recommend against it but it doesn't seem to be a big enough problem that it's Officially Not Allowed#it's still in very common use#i'm not super worried about it either way safety wise but I am very invested in finding out the details about this nail polish story#because oh my god what the fuck#hylian rambles#hylian does science#this is not the most horrifying un/mislabeled container story i have heard at this job and i've only been here a week#the worst one involved dead fish

In other news, I've lost my glasses. I've misplaced them before, but never to this extent that I haven't been able to find them at home, at work, or in our car. So... yeah, that's a huge bummer, unless they turn up somewhere random where I didn't think to look before (but that would just beg the question of why they'd be in such a random location in the first place) I'm gonna have to replace them.
I need to get my prescription updated anyways so this time around I'm gonna just do the appointment, get my prescription and measurements, and then order some new ones online from like, Zenni or something (I've heard good things about them and their prices are DEFINITELY more reasonable). I just really liked the frames that I had, so I'm really hoping I can find the same ones again or something similar; and honestly even if I do go with a cheaper place like Zenni, I need transition lenses for my light sensitivity so it's always gonna be pricey no matter who I buy them from 😭
Unfortunately there seems to be a high volume of appointments rn (probably because it's the school season, idk) so the place I usually go to is booked up until December. Then when I called another place to check their booking schedule, they told me they could get me in next Monday at 4... which just so happens to land at the tail end of a 3 hour shift that I have to do at my second job, a job that I literally only work 3-6 hours a week for 💀 Sooo the odds of that are kind of astounding (and incredibly frustrating) but apparently cancellations are relatively common so they have me on a waitlist, and worst case, if I don't get called in sooner on account of a cancellation, I only have to wait until mid October, about a month away. Still a pain, but better than waiting until frigging December LOL Like man I just need to replace my glasses, why is this so frustrating 💀
#worst case i'll see if my boss at job 2 can move my shift so i can make that monday appointment#but man it's still a pain#the pair that i lost was deadass only like 2 years old and in great condition#i'm gonna be really sad if i can't find them :(((#self post#off topic

One thing I love about Hayward in s1 is ya, sure, he's a cop. But most notably, he's not even a good cop.
Hear me out. This isn't saying Hayward does not have the intuition one would associate with your typical, glorified cop from tv shows (in chapter 40, Hayward is absolutely right in that he immediately figured Carpenter out the moment he spotted her in Marcel's Crossing) and other instances, like chapter 43, shows that he has good reflexes for moments under fire (is the first to notice Brother Philly and co. at the door and pushes Carpenter out of the way). Not to mention that Hayward was on the force since he was 19, and to survive on the force for that long means he surely had plenty of solved cases under his belt, regardless if pressure has slowly built up by the time we're introduced to him.
No, when I say he's not even a good cop I mean in the sense of: he's not good at what cops actually do.
One of the very first things Felix reminds him is to not "forget his gun this time." Implying that this has happened before, enough times for Felix to sound audibly tired about it (and he does have to go back for his gun at least two times in season 1). When Mr. Finch points a gun at him, he sits on the ground for a conversation. When asked, Hayward is confused as to why Daggler would need a knife when they find Carpenter and Faulkner's abandoned car, the thought of slashing the tires never even crossing his mind. And instead of immediately taking her into custody with no warrant whatsoever aside for his hunch, he sits down with Carpenter for an amicable conversation and a meal; only later showing his hand long enough to warn her that he's a cop and he's on to her. He's a cop and he has the Stink on him; because s1 Hayward is a bad cop. Because he does not immediately resort to violence.
(And this isn't to dismiss his role as a cop entirely, something we're never fully privy to; chapter 3 alone shows us how his mere position as a cop was enough to cause a death that could have easily been avoided, because that role prevented Hayward from providing Mr. Finch with the actual help he needed.)
Daggler is such a ridiculous, exaggerated character but he's also the picture perfect cop. The Lieutenant-Colonel sends Daggler of all people, when they think Hayward can't solve the case. And, look, we don't really know what Daggler's position on the force is compared to Hayward, but he's clearly trusted enough to be sent, to be the exception to personal gods and keep a rhetorical god. Clearly trusted enough to close the case efficiently. Yes, Daggler is utterly ridiculous when put next to Hayward but that's because Hayward is a bad cop. Daggler is the ideal: he gets results quickly (by losing patience and immediately assaulting the bookseller), he takes perps to court and wins (with the use of The Coiling Speaks, not a liar's god btw), and he knows how to tell a compelling story (because of course Carpenter tried to attack Hayward. And of course the Good Cop shot and killed the Heretic to Protect His Partner). Good publicity all around.
S1 Hayward shows that there is no "good cop;" because being "good" is antithetical to what's expected of cops. There was no way he could continue being good and being a cop, it's why the Stink was beginning to creep up on him. "You're one of them nice coppers." says Mr. Finch. Nice. Not good. Because so-called good cops are probably the first to get sacrificed; because these institutions are not built with morality in mind.
#the silt verses#nothing to say here just i love tsv's world building#sorry i love going back to s1 and hearing sounds of footsteps coming back to the car. don't forget your gun hayward#james hayward#constantly thinking how in ep 3 after mr finch dies and hayward is leaving the place#he mentions how if the police can't find a solution for the problem they'll probably go with the rabbits#literally the thing mr finch was doing to satiate its hunger#the exact same solution and for what#also thinking how daggler had so many cases and complaints against him#but is obviously still on the force and his personal god is licensed by his station#and any cops that complain about him find themselves in trouble#obviously getting the preferential treatment#purposefully saying hayward is a bad cop instead of saying he's bad at his job btw

Robert "Lucky" Hugh Leckie Research Part 15:
Okay, continuing into the 21st century, after our brief dip back to the '50s: More Vera!!! telling us about Leckie because the show's just come out. Thanks to @bleedingcoffee42 as always

He loved football- big Notre Dame fan, and stopped going to church when they changed over the Mass from Latin- Leckie liked the "beauty and mystery" of it all. He did quite smoking.
He never stopped using his typewriter, and wrote a loooooot. Through it all, terrible handwriting as Vera likes to remind us in nearly every article she's talking about him- honestly fair, being able to read that writing is a rare gift so good for her that she could. also Leckie being sweet to his niece
Anyway, pretty interesting. Comments, discussions, and thoughts welcome!!
#hbo war#the pacific#robert leckie#quitting your job after your wife comes home just birthed your third kid?#“that didn't go over well”#Yeah I bet NOT#vera you are strong#he really got lucky he was successful as a writer damn#leckie loved defying authority#also leckie: points to no smoking sign#demands bus driver to stop until everyone obeys sign#Leckie's terrible handwriting#also damn#going through your husband's war memoir and reading all that#finding out your loved one went through all of that...#I can't imagine the emotions on that#yeah I wouldn't be prepared for that either#and the alzheimers- I still feel so bad for Leckie and his family going through that#vera keller

I've been wondering actually about your pokemon headcanons for the gang... If you are willing to share some...
Heliolisk: Is very attuned to time! As a little Helioptile it meant that he tends to visit certain spots at certain times of the day, holding his own schedule. Nowadays, it means keeping others to a schedule, which can be handy in some situation and slightly bossy in others.
Emolga: The true beast of the Gym lol. Motor Drive + Energy Ball + Air Slash + Electro Ball sweep (I am not a VGC user). But only if he's actually there to battle with lol.
Magneton: Actually does get very curious and interested in what others are doing, but can't really switch attention spans so easily. Gets stuck doing the same thing again and again until their initiative or realises there is no net postive change, then is finally able to do something else. Only thing that can draw them to someplace quickly is an electrical field.
Bunnelby: Very observant of others fighting styles or the way that they use their moves. It also means that he sometimes can tell when others are close to evolving, although that’s a secret he won’t tell unless the certain Pokémon wants to talk about it.
Froakie: He blushes way too easily, and it’s far too noticeable for him. His actual relief when being a Greninja meant that he could cover his face! (Don’t tell him about the fins)
Fletchling: As a Talonflame, shedding makes him more emotional. He doesn’t understand why! He should be stronger with every new growth of feathers, but instead he’s gentle and kinder and gets more sleepier than usual. It’s annoying but ultimately harmless (except to his ego) that’s all.
Dedenne: Actually older than what most people and Pokémon give credit for! Just that with all the sleeping and Fairy-typing, his kind tends to live longer than most Pokémon their size + don’t really age while sleeping, so still technically a baby. But there’s a lot of power that comes with being on this earth heh.
Fennekin: Has a habit of gnawing on her wand as a Braixen, especially when deep in thought. Is actually very touch-orientated as is, especially after evolution, which may have been why the broken wand incident was very… painful to her (there were actually a load of issues that that but feeling the grooves where her teeth had pieced it and claws had gripped it was a memory that it sorely missed).
Chespin: Got flipping down to a T. Don’t question the very many occasions of being unceremoniously thrown, dropped from a tall height, lost grip on a tree, or got stuck to the ground because of his spines. He’s a natural at rolling too and curling up into a perfect ball while sleeping sometimes but that’s just easy stuff.
Hawlucha: Can tell what surface he is touching with his eyes closed. What type of tree, the soil, fabrics… wait why does he know fabrics? Anyways, likes to observe Serena making costumes as well and has very opinionated tastes in Showcases. These are not related facts.
Pancham: Actually travelled around watching people and Showcases before being found where he was. He ended up trying props after seeing some of the Theme rounds and usually watched from the vents, trying and failing to get in through other ways and plotting his own grand entrance (to see if it was as magnificent as it seemed). The day that the gang visited was the one day where he was sucessful in actually breaking in.
Luxio: Based on Natures, would have a Lonely one. Used to blame that fact after Clem left and stuck to it fiercely afterwards when warding people away from the underground equipment/stores. Now just understands that she just prefers chilling on her own to 'recharge her batteries', so to speak. Still likes to stay next to others or keep an eye out though, so maybe that's not entirely all there is to her.
Goomy: As a Sliggoo ended up having to rely on other senses to get by, with the whole devolved eyes and all. Got very aquainted with everyone's voices, other sounds, and smell (and taste but let's not get into that).
Noibat: Has periods where she gets non-verbal (usually after a big cry session or after going through a lot of emotions). Hawlucha matches her silences alongside with her, while Talonflame fills it with lots of talking and gestures. She appreciates the gesture and usually ends up playing with the others anyways, and after a while speaks her mind again when she feels ready to.
Eevee: Was a born and raised wild Pokemon. Well, self-raised. Seeing any strange Pokemon or people in general scared her, but she enjoys her own space in the meadow and never really had much reason to leave it. Her dance is a fluid movement that she's made herself after years of experimentation, and she still likes adding or trying out new varients to see if it can be even more fun! That's how she spends her days, anyways.
#hope this is what you mean now that exhaustion is creeping into me while doing this (am in pain these last few days arghh)#yes i'm including gym mons because i do have ideas on them and they also count!! pls!! i will not tolerate heliolisk slander#was going to say that chespin is a berry connoisseur (very much like noibat heh) but then i'm just listing job application skills lol#but also do want to add that he likes to imitate others / learn from them which is why he gets good at some stuff (very jack of all trades)#pancham ends up hoarding a lot of props in random places before moving on (can't carry a lot when you're tiny). police are baffled by this.#i think it was implied that eevee was abandoned or something but i find it cooler to think she's a wild one (for multiple reasons)#i feel awkward adding pika because YEAH but ig if there needs to be one: is very extremely super nosy. wants to knows everyones buisness#but tries to restrain it until they're cool enough with him (or just listen in through convos and stuff). he lives for the drama#wait do i have to do squishy or smth?? bro is a temp one ;w; but ig i can say: ends up speaking aloud instead of telepathy after some#exposure to the gang because they tend to speak their mind A LOT. bluni is so confused post-crisis lol. actually everyone is#ngl is it just me who looks at a magneton and sees a biblically accurate angel?? sort of??#still workshopping emolga moveset but trust me is very much a beast#man i love all the pokemon it was a struggle to pick one or settle on a thought enough to say something heh#but loved this ask!! they're all cool and some of these do come into play quicker than others#diancie delivers#trying so hard not to get even longer in here arghhhhhhh#also forgot to say but did watch both pokemon specials a few weeks ago!! so yeah fun times lol

ok so some world-building headcanons for the magisterium (because god knows they need it)
They used to use the American high-school education system, with Iron year as a gap year from education, to help with the transition to a magic school, and to prioritise apprentices gaining conscious control over their magic -
After the Cold Massacre, they started to use the Middle Year Program (accelerated) and the Diploma Program of the International Baccalaureate Program. I say "accelerated", because the MYP is for students aged 11-16, with the intention of DP ending at 18. So it'll start with revision of what they've learned at their old schools. This became the educational curriculum for almost all magical schools. -
The masters that don't teach magic don't usually have apprentices. It's no hard-and-fast rule, and many of them still have assistants, but this generally happens. -
The Magisterium does not have standardised testing, but they do have end-of-year exams. Magic levels are separate to education levels, so if an apprentice passes their Gate, but not their exam, they still learn magic of the next year wile repeating the education of the current year, and vice versa. The uniform apprentices wear represent the number of years they have been at the Magisterium, regardless of whether or not they were held back a year, but the metal on their wrist cuff shows what year they are magically (An apprentice in Bronze year who did not pass their Gate will wear white uniforms, but still have a bronze plate on their wrist cuff). An apprentice's education level is not visually shown. Apprentices who have failed either their exam and/or their Gate will still live with their apprentice group, but will learn their failed level separately to them. -
Masters can decide to stay in their quarters over the summer break. The ones who go back usually do so to visit family or friends. Otherwise they are either planning for lessons or honing their own expertise in their own quarters. -
Apprentices that do not pass the Gate of Control (Iron year) do not go home for the summer break. Their master is forced to stay as well. Legal guardians are informed of why their child is unable to leave the school, and are permitted the chance to stay at the Magisterium over the summer break in guest quarters. This is the only time non-magical people are permitted in the Magisterium. If the child passes the Gate of Control over the summer break, they can decide whether to leave or stay for the rest of the holidays. -
Apprentices at the end of their Copper year are able to apply to be an assistant. Through their master they can apply to assist with a particular subject (magic being one of them), and masters that teach this subject are given a compiled list and can choose to take an apprentice as an assistant, granted that they do not teach this apprentice. It's treated like (unpaid) work, and is often used to boost job opportunities, but they are still expected to keep up with their coursework. -
Makaris are generally discouraged from becoming assistants, because of their already increased workload, but they still can. -
All non-magical legal guardian(s) are made aware of the magical if their child is accepted into the Magisterium. This debrief is done just after the selection, once the chosen children have left, and the unchosen children are bound and escorted out with their families. This is also when masters are able to talk about accommodations and transportation with parents (see below) -
The push for disability recognition allowed for masters to make personalised accommodations, having both the apprentice and the legal guardian(s) of the apprentice in the conversation. There are guidelines and procedures, but they are not definite. The agreed upon accommodations are then bound between the master and any one legal guardian, with an assemblyman as a witness (think of something like the unbreakable vow from harry potter). The apprentice can choose whether to be physically present for the binding. Informal accommodations are common between masters and apprentices are common (being the only kind of accommodation during the first gen era), and do not require legal guardians, but other masters are not required to adhere to them. Addendums and retractions to this agreement are made in a similar fashion. -
Call and Al specifically didn't have the accommodations conversation with Rufus until Bronze Year, because of Al's outburst in the Iron Trial, and him being a suspected criminal on the run in Call's Copper year. Because there was nothing formal about Call's leg for two years, a whole buncha master either overestimated or underestimated what Call could do with his leg. Call technically wasn't in school for his Silver and Gold years, it was only used for a year at most anyway. -
Iron year students start a week earlier than other years. This is for the safety of the other students, and the sanity of the masters. -
The Magisterium has a school bus. It's used to bring the chosen Iron apprentices to the school. While the masters are debriefing the legal guardians, they can choose to sign their child up for the school bus. It's free and it's literally just a "yeah can my kid take the bus?". They know where to pick you up. Don't ask how. They won't tell you. The same bus picks up all the apprentices across America and heads to Virginia. It takes most of the day to get there. The bus travels a kilometre (or a mile, I guess) above the ground, but still drives "on the road". The windows show a view of the road as per normal. This means that sometimes the windows show the bus no-clipping through cars and running through every light regardless of colour, but that's all part of the fun! It's not too noticeable but time in the bus passes a little weirdly. It feels easier to lose track of time in there. Legacy families usually like to personally drop off their kids. The bus also takes kids back home at the end of the school year. -
There are 3 types of quarters: apprentice quarters, master quarters and guest quarters. -
Apprentice quarters consist of 1 common room and 3-5 bedrooms (depending on the number of apprentices in that apprentice group). The common room is decorated differently depending how the master likes it, but they all have a fireplace (without fire, but always emitting heat), a carpet, a couple soft places to sit, and a large table. Apprentice bedrooms are decorated as per the apprentice's wish, but all have a wardrobe, a queen-sized four poster bed (with a roof. I've seen some without one), a chest at the foot, a nightstand on one side and an oil lamp on top. -
Master quarters consist of a bedroom, a common room, and a lichen room. The common rooms are much like the apprentice quarters, but are a bit smaller, with a few less seating areas. The bedrooms are larger, and though they hold the same essentials as the apprentice bedrooms, they also have bookshelves, several lamps hanging in the corners, a large desk, and a tornado phone. Depending on the expertise of the master, there may be maps strewn up. The lichen room grows lichen. Masters get hungy for a midnight snack y'know. Some masters use it as a supply closet for ingredients instead. -
Guest quarters consist of a bedroom and a common room. The common room is much like the master common room. The bedroom is much like the apprentice common room. If two guests wish to sleep in the same quarters, their bed is upgraded to a king-sized four poster bed, with a wider chest, a larger wardrobe, and a nightstand with an oil lamp on both sides. These rooms are given to assemblymen, alumni, and other researchers for the duration of their stay at the Magisterium. They are also given to the guardian(s) of the apprentices under specific conditions (see above). -
Assemblymen who stay at the Magisterium are also given an office. This office is like the master and guest common room, but also has two bookshelves, one for books, one for ingredients, as well as a tornado phone on the desk. -
Yes, Master Rufus has an assemblyman office and a master's bedroom/study. Yes, Master Milagros, along with other masters, had raised brows about it. Yes, Master Rufus fought for it anyway. Yes, Master Rufus has two tornado phones. They are both alerted when someone calls him, and one disappears when he answers on the other.
#magisterium#do you know how much it annoyed me that magic schools don't have a non-magical education?#for hogwarts or cackle's academy. witchood and wizardry are completely separate worlds. with separate governments and jobs and economies#the magisterium has a board as its “government”#and if you aren't a teacher or a board member. your only option for work is a non-magical job#many students go on to research and stuff. but *everyone*???!?!?!?#so yes. they get an education. call just never talks about it ever#also IB mention. you can't say i'm lazy if i use both the american R/H/AP system and the IB system#(even if i'm lowkey just finding excuses to use a system i'm more familiar with)#alex was rufus' apprentice. but he helped with research more than magic. which is why rufus knows alex's magic abilities#now i have a canon reason for everyone being weird about call's leg. that reason is still “rufus is sorta being a bitch about it”. but stil#a valid reason nonetheless

I genuinely HATE xillow on the show. on my first watch I screamed and ew-ed every time they got a little too flirty, and then full on closed my eyes and cringed when they actually kissed. If you were to look into my mind, you would probably see 2 goat-like things having a fight over something that doesn't matter with Starman just sitting in the background and playing with something.
#foxok vents#not in a plural way (I think). characterizing (is that the word?) my thoughts with contradicting opinions just makes it easier#to express myself and such... those guys are all still me.#Could these guys shut up... this random thing does not matter.#bro you don't even like this stuff who cares if someone wrote somewhere that you are a bad person or deserve to die if you do like [thing].#this is not about you my guy... even if you did like this stuff this wasn't directed at you specifically so who cares...#that person doesn't know me. People tend to like me. So shut up.#stop trying to find prove that I'm bad...#That does have a function#so I can't blame it. Like- if you did like [thing] people would hate you and try to make your life worse. This seeks to prevent that.#It does it's job.#Still does it have to react to something that doesn't concern me? Or I mean... I guess it could... So maybe it's good actually.#Still makes me feel bad...

we interviewed like, literally the perfect candidate today (for another job I'm on the panel for, sadly not for my team) but also they work with Sam so I was like 'NO. I SHOULDN'T ask Sam 'hey is [name] sound?'
but because I have no boundaries instead I went into his room as soon as I got home and went 'THE INTERVIEWS WENT WELL. BY THE WAY WHO ARE THE PEOPLE WHO YOU LIKE AND HATE AT WORK.' which inevitably triggered a guessing game which. is just asking 'is [name] sound' with extra steps
(they are, evidently, as good as they seemed)
(which is lucky. already finalised my scoring so.)
#red said#I'm sorry to [name] who was like 'i don't want people at work to know I've applied for other jobs' when i mentioned i knew Sam#there is no defence i just can't keep secrets#but also in fairness Sam's on holiday until after we make the decision and we still have one person to see#but they would have to be genuinely amazing to do better than [name] cause they knocked it out of the park on every metric#like the only criticism anyone could come up with was 'they seem kind of overqualified'#they were lovely. extremely capable. had both a depth and breadth of knowledge and experience. they even had work life boundaries.#hens teeth in the charities sector to find people who are both good at their jobs and capable of switching off#so we have to meet my Least Favourite Candidate next week. Least Favourite bc they scored well on their application so i had to rank them#as my 2nd choice. but also stacked up every Hate point. cop army reservist ai specialist former city job. die die die.#like i have to be FAIR and BALANCED and i WILL be. in the event he's somehow significantly better than the person we saw today#of course he'll get it#but like if it's a could-go-either-way thing it should be today's candidate#next week's candidate is also on my shitlist for needing to reschedule the interview (fair. reasonable.)#and therefore extending the amount of time i need to endure being on interview panels by an entire extra week (hate kill maim)#that. unlike being a cop. isn't his fault and everyone should have the right to reschedule if needed. but i JUST WANT IT OVER

many things i have been keeping under wraps at work, such as pronouns, but also, very critically, age. bc i got that ageless mixed race asian swag where i am very clearly not an undergrad but also??? they just don't know. and it WHIPS and it is so funny to ME because all the managers and shift supervisors are like damn this girl in her mid-twenties is so easy to talk to, it's like talking to a peer. surprise bitch i'm older than you. and maybe this means i'm performing psychological experiments on cis men, but i am ngl if i hand you a two page resume that you don't read, it is simply none of MY business if you think i am in my mid-20s. they are going to be so mad when they find out lmao
#mild work crush i fear....his undefinable possibly autistic certainly overworked jock swag has captured the nation#i can't remember if he was the one who jumpscared the managers by just randomly showing up with a wife and baby one day#when they thought he was a confirmed bachelor#it might have been the other shift supervisor who hates talking to people#it def wasn't the business school supervisor bc that guy is tasing himself recreationally while getting an mba. idiot <3#i love my job it is so boring and so entertaining at the same time. it's like the perfect balance of annoying and enriching#i wrote an entire fic at work once. and was still able to do everything i needed to do. and heard an absolutely bananas story#from the housekeeper about suing the city#i love the housekeeper every 3rd word out of her mouth i'm like ma'am are we allowed to say that in 2025 😭#i wish i could work there forever but i cannot. and when i quit the fic and/or zine i write/make about is going to go CRAZYYYYY#i think i text like 5-8 different people at least once a week about stupid shit i witnessed at work and the hot guys also#cannot forget the hot guys. so many hot guys. and they are all so stupid and annoying and sometimes charming also#i wish i could wear shorts to work bc my ass looks great rn from strength training#unfortunately my uniform is athleisure wear that doesn't fit and a free flyers sweatshirt that also doesn't fit lmao#when i learn to dress myself. it's over for you hoes#was talking to my strength trainer this week bc they asked if they could use me as a case study for trauma informed something#i kind of wasn't listening bc i just started talking immediately about the emotional effects of not having severe chronic back pain#and now being stronger has made me at its very base just more confident and kind to myself (inasmuch as i'll ever be)#bc i know my body better and i'm not scared of it and i can predict how it moves and i can trust it in ways i could not before#just from not knowing it? like even beyond the chronic pain i just did not know how my body moved and what it was capable of#& how one thing that is so silly but so nice is the feeling of being attractive as MYSELF for the first time in my life and not just#a vehicle for everyone to project whatever weird mpdg stuff on. and it's NICE and it's FUN that i know how my body moves as itself!!#like idk is finding confidence in my body the poetry. the strength training. the being in my 30s. the being too tired to care anymore#WHO KNOWS. none of my business#in conclusion. i would love to say i haven't been having a five stage mental breakdown all week but i have but i think it finally resolved#and now i have a new bed courtesy of sierra and kelly!!!!#and after i find out how much i owe in 1st/last month's rent? it's cricut time#ok good night#fresno oilers.txt

Noting that I went to a catholic high school in the midwestern US, I would say that between 30-40% of my classmates followed a life path similar to the following (so not even half, but still a significant amount):
1) Age 18-21: start dating someone in uni
2) Age 22/23: get a job shortly after graduation (or have one already organized, probably from a summer internship while in uni)
3) Age 22-24: get engaged to your uni bf/gf within a year of graduating, once you both have jobs basically
4) Age 23-26: wedding within a year or two of getting engaged, also buy a house if you have that kind of money lol
5) 9 months to 1 year after wedding (so 24-26 generally): baby!
I think it's important to note that this culture is able to continue because many college-educated young USAmericans are able to get a decent job very soon after graduating, which speeds up the rest of the process quite a bit. For people who are not able to get a job quickly, or who choose to do further studies, add on a few years. (And for people who don't go to uni, subtract a few!)
yeah i was gonna say, the only thing i envy of that is the getting a job so early and easy lol. i think that's also the main difference or why people aren't married so early here. in my experience (note that i went to a private upper class school so almost everyone went to university and pretty much everyone is employed right now except me lol)
1) 18-23. uni. a bunch of them were dating before uni, others during, some after, you know how it goes. and also a lot of them didn't date (like me).
2) 23-25. finishing uni, doing a master's degree, and or living abroad (usually to work).
3) 25-26. come back to spain and work here, or finished studying and got a job. they start dating seriously.
4) 26-28. if they've been dating for a while, engagement. if not, they continue the grind. if they live abroad especially which is honestly more than half of my circle rn they won't want to get engaged until they come back or decide to stay in the other country (normally their partner is from there).
5) 28-30. this is the future for me so i'm just speculating, but here is marriage + baby for those who can afford it. keep in mind most of us this age are still living with our parents so. that's another thing to have in mind.
more or less that's the idea here. you first want to have a stable job, then a stable house, and then you can start thinking about proposing and weddings and kids. and that doesn't happen soon.
#ask#thanks for the comparision!!!! i think it's a very good indicator of how life works in the USA :) i knew that stuff is done earlier and tha#people tend to have jobs earlier and stuff but seeing it like this made everything much more clear#just as an example in my high school friend group (we are all 26-27)#one friend lived in germany for like 5 years working there after uni. got back to spain last year. started living together with her bf#of like 6-7 years??? (they've been together since forever lol) earlier this year#and now that she's got a stable job and a place to stay has been starting to talk about marriage#another one has been living in the netherlands for the past 7 years first to study there and now to work#also his gf is dutch so. he'll probably stay there#his gf is still studying medicine so i imagine until she finishes they won't even think about marriage#also they are only gonna live together starting this june so that's that lol#then there's this other friend who took longer finishing her bachelor's and master's degree and started working full-time this year#while still having to finish her master's dissertation#she does have a bf (they have been together for 2 years i think?) but she literally doesn't have even time to think about marriage lol#let alone living together with him she lives with her parents#and finally my best friend is doing a master's degree and looking for jobs in the interim. no luck for now but hopefully he'll get one afte#the master which is quite specialized (he's a computer engineering btw. if he can't find a job imagine how fucked the job market is)#and he doesn't even have a gf nor plans to i think? he's focused on getting a job first#and people i know that aren't in this friend group that i talk to from time to time are in pretty similar situations#the ones who lived with their partners are notable outliers#and there's like. 2 people (that i'm aware of) from my high school that married? again they're the exception#so yeah

One of the interesting bits of trying to resume working on the game after so long is looking back at my ancient Draft Placeholder versions of an image from 4 yrs ago trying to remember what the hell I meant back then, to hopefully interpret it into some more final (ish..) form of the same thing .. making slow progress lol
#At this point I've decided it's just a consistent design decision to have the sketchy slightly wonky sort of art ghbjj#I simply don't have the digital art skills/tools/patience (mostly that) to do 100% digital things and have a Clean Polished Professional#Neat Looking Perfect Crisp Lines sort of thing like one would see in most games. I'm drawing everything in pencil half decently (not strict#ly making sure every line is straight or that the perspective even makes sense) and then scanning it in and coloring it on the computer#and that's about it. In another world I could hire an artist or two to do professional backgrounds and charcter art or etc. - but as I am#a mere penniless peasant hermit with functioning issues who has to do every aspect of everything themselves - I'm just going to do#what is possible within the time frame/my ability/etc. and then just be like ''ah you see! actually this is intentional~ it has a homemade#crafty hand drawn sort of charm about it - yes? this was the direction all along!!'' LOL#Which for the record I'm not like complaining that it's necssarily Bad or anything - more just I suppose not the Professional Polished#style you Typically see in a lot of things - again the like - sketchy unclean lines of it all.#(like I think usually people use some sort of symmetry tool to make sure that all sides of a box are neat and clean and have that#Professional Game Art type of feel about them - rather than 'this is a scan of scraggily pencil lines in which I did not even bother to use#a ruler or try to get them all that even' lol). So it's not that it's BAD really.#just I think.. perhaps ''unconventional'' compared to the examples of other#games I've looked at. BUT. the point is to convey an idea. I think your art has failed if you do not convey a concept properly. But so#long as it meets your purposes and is not SOO cluttered/scribbly that nobody can even tell what's going on (unless that IS your intention)#then like.. I think it's fine. You can tell a house is a house even if it's not polished. No worries. (<convincing myself)#ANYWAY.. also 'Nanyevimi Market Quest' is still SUCH a placeholder name but I genuinely can never think of anything else so#I've just been going with it for now ToT... There's no distinct actual throughline story/plot so there's no 'theme' to base a title#around. Kind of like how 'The Sims' is just called the sims because naming it like 'Sims: Downfall Of Pleasantview' (one of the#towns in TS2 i think) would be a weird misname since what happens in the game totally depends on what you choose to do with it#So you can't really name it anything THAT specific (a player might not even choose to have a house in Pleasantview. what then? etc).#So it's just like..uh well...GENERALLY speaking.. everyone is uh.. on a personal quest..vaguely.. which takes place in a Market street full#of shops.. and you are mostly talking to shopkeepers... BUT it's not just a Market Quest since it's also in a fantasy world.. so we need to#give the fantasy world name.. and that's about it. I'm just at a loss for anything else. Maybe the like 2 and a half playtesters I#manage to scrounge up will have better ideas ghhh.. 'Nanyevimi Quest: Get To Know Some Shopkeepers' 'Find A Job In Fantasy World' you could#say 'Market Adventure' but some would argue just having a bunch of conversations and wandering around is not much of a real adventure.#don't want to set people up for thinking there's any drama or combat or anything. 'Do Menial Errands For Mentally Ill Elves Simulator' ghjg#(also sidenote: the '''chibi'' style versions of the characters on the menu screen....EVIL.. that style is SOOO hard for me to draw in for#some reason.. I just can't get the proportions right/have trouble fully ''simplifying'' the design.. took me HOURS lol... aUGHh)
