I had a thought a while back, and I'm not sure if people have talked about it. This could also be a reach because I have very shaky evidence to back it up, but.
We all know Dess is a musical prodigy. It's mentioned a few times in Chapter 4, and her guitar is still in the Holidays' house. There's also implications with the posters in her room that she wanted to start a band or was in a band.
Now hear me out for a bit.
Kris doesn't just know how to play the piano. They're very good at it. So good at it that, even with the soul ripped from their chest, they're still doing such an amazing job. I'm not sure how different playing the piano from an organ is, but they know how to play both instruments. Alvin I think mentions it in Chapter 1 that they would play the organ during service.
They also most likely know how to play the guitar. Tenna gave them the guitar during the rhythm game sequence. Evidence is shaky because I don't think Susie knows how to play the drums, but Tenna still gave Susie drums. But if Tenna knows Kris on an almost personal level, then that means he knows Kris is at least good with a guitar.
Kris is good with at least two instruments, and yet there is no visible musical instrument in the Dreemurr household. Maybe there's one in Toriel's room, but I don't know why she'd keep it there. But other than that, we don't see any musical instruments. We don't even see a keyboard.
But you know who does have a piano?
The Holiday Family.
They have a grand piano in their house. A piano that Kris was comfortable enough to use even though Noelle said no one has played it in a long time. And she was just outside. She and Susie definitely heard Kris play.
With all that said.
Dess must have taught Kris how to play both the piano and maybe the guitar.
Heres how I guess things went. Whenever Asriel and Kris go to the Holidays' house, she would teach Kris how to play the piano and maybe also teach them how to play the organ after church services. And whenever Dess and Noelle are in the Dreemurr household, Dess would bring her guitar and perhaps also teach Kris how to play it. And that's why Tenna knew to give Kris the guitar during the rhythm game.
And she most likely taught Kris how to play the piano because she wanted to start a band with Asriel, Kris, and maybe Noelle. Asriel was the best singer in the church choir, and as we see in Chapter 4, Noelle can also sing.
Kris most likely got their musical talent from Dess, who wanted to start a band with her sister and childhood friends.

Can't believe I'm dedicating a post to this, but that stupid Ska CD just feels like decisive evidence™.
Tumblr media
This is from Asriel. It has to be. Ska is literally only mentioned twice in the entire game and it's Dess and Asriel's CD collections.
Tumblr media
The case is still sealed, so obviously Dess did not ever intend to listen to it. Which begs the question: why is it still in her room? Just look at that pile of various instruments right next to the CD player.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Astute observation, and excellent summary, Kris.
If she didn't want that CD in her room, it would either be in pieces, in the trash, both, or at the very least hidden somewhere out of sight like Asriel's retainer is. (why do you have that? HOW do you have that?).
But no, it's just laying there with the rest of her CDs.
Never opened, never played, but a part of her collection anyway.
Because she can't bring herself to throw away a gift from that Massive Dork™ next door.
No matter how bad his taste in music is.

I WAS LISTENING TO YOUR KRISELLE PLAYLIST WHILE WORKING OUT AND AFTER ALL BOPPY VOCALOIDS, SUDDENLY, I WAS HIT WITH SAINT-SAENS?????
AND MY VIOLIN BIASED BRAIN BECAUSE MY FAV AUNT PLAYS VIOLIN WENT "WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT". MAYBE IT'S THERE BY ACCIDENT OR BECAUSE YOU HAVEN'T HAD SEPARATE PLAYLIST FOR THAT BUT IT KNOCKED AIR OUT OF MY LUNGS AND I ACTUALLY FACE PLANTED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PUSH UP.
If it is not by accident, please tell me you think it'd be adorable if Noelle played violin so she could play together with Kris in a duet, please. I was thinking it'd turn out Noelle plays some instrument in the end, BUT SHE DOESN'T ಥ╭╮ಥ
This fact actually made this vision even more fun to me, because like, I want to write a fic about my AU where Kris is natural music prodigy who doesn't want to play on big public and wants to play only for themselves or close ones, and Noelle is that one girl who wants to play DESPERATELY (because Dess and Kris were around her her whole childhood and she's definitely a bit autistic about that) but ends up playing only by the book and taking it too seriously. They both are confused about each other's opinion on music but at the same time respect (and kind of more, but shhhh, they're in denial) each other a lot since childhood.
I'm... Also very sorry for info dumping allat... I immediately went to write that after hearing the song... I'm so sorry for the caps, but I don't want to rewrite that, I think it shows my shocked state very well...
eheheh yupp… all that vocaloid and then these
Tumblr media
(stroking my beard) you must be new here i wonder… i have a fic that goes into depth about the idea, with noelle always kind of wanting to learn violin to play a duet with kris but just was never able to due to Life and her mother
Tumblr media
with the new chapters making it clear noelle likes to sing, though, i dont think a duet is out of the question in canon. everyone says over and over how they wish kris would join the church choir playing piano, noelle especially (she thinks about it a lot, like if you give her the rhapsotea she comments on it for example)
its been years but kris playing the piano for noelle alone makes me so ill still. kris playing the piano at ALL makes me ill. i used to be a violinist so i have a little experience getting really into playing an instrument & having the music you play feel important…
also unrelated but i havent seen hardly anyone mention it, did no one else freak out when the kris piano mp3 from the sweepstakes started playing after they played the organ in chapter 4?!?! anyone?!?!?!? because i was squealing like a piglet when it happened……. i was like OH MY GODD ITS THE CONCERT ITS THE CONCERT!!!!!!

Fun parallels between Susie & Dess that I've noticed:
rebellion:
Dess is clearly positioned as the "rebellious older sibling figure" for Noelle & Kris. She watched channels they weren't supposed to, had scary games she was clearly hiding from her parents, and had her room decorated in a much darker fashion then the rest of the Holiday household.
Susie, meanwhile, is more of a "rebel without a cause" type. When she's shown that her actions have a positive impact, like with her friendship with lancer, she does try to do the right thing, but from what we've learned about her past, she's rarely been given that chance. Now, in the present, she's rebelling against aspects of the prophecy and encouraging Kris and Noelle's own rebellions, Noelle against her Mother and (unknowingly) Kris against both us and the individual they made that promise to.
food insecurity:
One thing that hit me hard during our exploration of Dess' room, is that she had a CONCERNING amount of Army Rations in there. Now, maybe they're just for camping (which Noelle mentioned they did a lot), or because she was on a survivalist kick, buuuut I could definitely see Carol as the "Sends a kid to their room with no dinner" type. She also specifically chewed Noelle out in their kitchen, so Dess might have had good reason to avoid going in there.
On Susie's side of things, we've already seen signs that Susie isn't getting enough to eat at home. She's munching pretty much constantly on anything she can grab, whether it's actually food or not. I'm pretty sure the only time we've seen her dismiss any form of food was with the french-fry by the picnic tables, and that was only after we'd been hanging out for several days & had (theoretically) full meals.
Musicians:
Dess seemed most interested in the guitar, but she still had a pile of old instruments in her room. Those easily could've been forced on her by Carol, but she still likely expressed an interested in them for Carol to consider going that direction. After all, Noelle doesn't have any instruments in her room, though she does still sing in the church choir. Dess is even referred to as a "Musical Prodigy" by Tenna, though it's unclear how accurate that is.
Meanwhile, Susie has shown constant interest during chapters 3 & 4 in playing an instrument. The type doesn't seem to matter, since she attempts to play both the drums and the guitar during these chapters and expresses a long-held desire to play the piano. Plus, she seems to develop a sense for the drums pretty quick, going from random banging in the music challenge to getting nearly all the notes in the 2nd Tenna fight. If anything, she might be a "musical prodigy" as well, if given the right opportunity.
Relationship with Kris and Noelle:
Kris & Noelle are both implied to have been close to Dess. Noelle misses Dess' guitar playing and may have been inspired to get into creepy games by her (since we can find a bunch of scary games in Dess' room). She also brings up several fond memories of Dess both in game and on her blog. Kris seems to have looked up to Dess, as they play Dess' part in the song "Raise Up Your Bat" and is said to have gone through a drastic personality shift after Dess' disappearance. She was the "cool older sister" to both of them.
Susie, meanwhile, becomes close to both of them over the course of the game. They were both interested in her pre-deltarune (Noelle had a crush, while Kris seemed to find her bullying... funny?) and, once given the opportunity, they both end up really admiring her. Susie may be their closest friend outside of each other and like. Berdly.
Overall, there seems to just be a lot of parallels between the two!

My thoughts about Deltarune, Chapters 3 & 4 (Part 4)
Continuing where I left off:
Tumblr media
❤️ <( After doing some things in Castle Town, we went back to the Light World to explore, dropped Tenna off at Happy's (Mettaton) house, and went back to Kris's house to "borrow" money from Asriel drawer just for this:
Tumblr media
❤️ <( My dorks deserve the best, so I wanted to give them a moment of chill and fun. It was really cute and worth it.
This was my drawing by the way...
Tumblr media
❤️ <(  *smirks* Shh... just doing Kris a bit of trolling.
Tumblr media
❤️ <( After some misunderstandings about the rose that Kris kept to feed Susie later and Noelle believing it was for her… (for a moment I thought Noelle would get jealous thinking that Kris was confessing their love to Susie with the rose or something *smirks*)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
❤️ <( We finally arrived at Noelle's house, and I've to say it's very beautiful, both inside and out. It was a lot of fun to explore. 😊
Once we sat down on the couch to talk, Berdly called Noelle to pester her about being his date for the festival, but Susie grabbed the phone, shut his bird ass, sent the phone flying (thank you very much), and then she explained to Noelle that she needs to start saying "no" to other people, and she was like:
Tumblr media
❤️ <( Deer one, did you forget you have antlers up? You can always… never mind, let's not give her any more ideas with Berdly *chuckles*
After that, Susie asked us to go look for clues while she entertained Noelle, and then we picked up the phone to troll Berdly a little.
Tumblr media
❤️ <( I don't know how Kris knows the song, but the bird answered us anyway and…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
❤️ <( "Did you hear anything, Kris? Yeah, me neither, carry on..."
After that, we entered Dess's room and did a little research.
Tumblr media
❤️ <( "So… your friend Dess was sort of a punk/rocker deer who was kind of rebellious, liked military stuff and causing some mayhem, was probably in a relationship with Asriel, was good at sports, and could play any kind of instrument, right? Sounds like a cool girl to me, but she probably had many clashes with her mom for this, no?
I don't know why, but I just pictured her now listening to "System Of A Down" from "Chop Suey!" somehow..."
Anyway, we went to check the guitar, found the shelter's code and…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
❤️ <( !!!!!!
Tumblr media
❤️ <( Excuse me...? What do you think you're doing?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
❤️ <( Well... I was a little in shock from what Kris did, but I managed to get out of the box and escape through the vent.
Tumblr media
❤️ <( *humming "Metal Gear Solid - Encounter" while moving*
Tumblr media
❤️ <( There they are! Hey, what are they doi…?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
❤️ <( This is the moment when my awe for Kris got broken for a bit and then things got spicy... like really mad...
I'll show it when the next post is ready.

Theory. I think Don’t Forget from the chapter 1 soundtrack is Dess singing.
This is something that came to me as I was listening to the chapter 1 soundtrack again but the more and more I think about it the more obsessed I am with this idea.
It seems pretty significant to me that Don’t Forget is one of the ONLY tracks in both Undertale AND Deltarune to have a full, real voice singing. The next closest to that is like Feature Presentation, which only kind of counts and is also a whole 7 YEARS after the first album came out. Because of that, this song has always struck me as Very Significant, but l could never really place why.
However, with the increasing frequency of Dess mentions over the chapters and the way she haunts the narrative, I find it very likely that that voice is meant to be Dess.
For one, it’s already implied that Dess was a bit of a songwriter. Her signature instrument is a guitar and the song Raise Up Your Bat is heavily speculated to have been written by Dess, as it uses a lot of bat imagery, which we know she wielded, AND recycles the tune to Lost Girl- another very significant theme to Dess and her disappearance. I believe that Don’t Forget is another song of hers.
I see it working two fold: as a lullaby for Noelle when they were younger and also as a lullaby/reminder to Kris in the Dark Worlds. Consider the lyrics:
When the light is running low
And the shadows start to grow
And the places that you know seem like fantasy
There’s a light inside you’re soul
That’s still shining in the cold
With the truth, the promise in our hearts
Don’t forget, I’m with you in the dark
This being a lullaby to Noelle seems pretty straightforward. It’s been said multiple times (especially in ch 2) that Noelle was scared a lot as a kid and was pranked often. But she also says that Dess would always be there to calm her down.
Tumblr media
I wouldn’t be surprised if this song was Dess singing her a lullaby to soothe her. Especially considering the mention of the light “shining in the cold” in the song- a recurring theme with all of the Holidays. The mention of shadows growing and light fading could simply be about Dess assuring Noelle that whatever scary things she comes across, Dess will always be with her.
But the lyrics to the song are also highly suspicious when you think of them as referencing the Dark World. The language is all very similar to how we know the Dark Worlds operate.
“When the shadows start to grow,” “when the places that you know seem like fantasy,” “there’s a light inside your soul,” etc.
All of these lines seem to reference the Dark World in some way if not referencing Kris themself with that last line. And chapter 3 seems to confirm that Dess went to the Dark World with Asriel and Kris when they were younger. Ramb mentions them taking him from the library to the TV world and also gives us this dialogue:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We know that Noelle likely has never been to a Dark World before seeing as she has no clue who Queen is and thinks that the whole adventure is a dream. So this “girl” that Ramb mentions can only be Dess.
So with Dess confirmed to have been on adventures with Kris in the Dark World, I believe that the lyrics to Don’t Forget were also meant to be for Kris and maybe even hint to us as to Dess’ fate- perhaps being lost in the Dark World itself and and calling out to Kris.
I’m in love with the idea of this song being a lullaby from Dess considering how often this melody gets utilized throughout the soundtrack. The leitmotif is used all over but mostly notably in all of the hometown songs, in Jevil and Spamton songs, and of course, during Kris’ piano solo in chapter 4.
This could just mean that it is a recurring theme for Deltarune as a whole, but I still keep coming back to the fact that the song is fully voiced and sung by a feminine voice. That, along with the lone piano score behind it really makes it feel like it is a significant moment in their childhood, when Dess was singing to Noelle and Kris was accompanying on the piano. I can’t unsee it.
TLDR; I believe that the Don’t Forget song in Deltarune’s soundtrack and its subsequent leitmotifs are meant to be a reference to Dess and contribute to her haunting of the narrative. It could be a lullaby she wrote for Noelle or maybe could have some deeper significance to Kris and whatever their backstory might be.

CAROL HOLIDAY
okay, okay, so I’m about to go on a rant about Carol, and why I don’t think she’s the Knight (Major spoilers ahead btw)
So, I’ve been seeing a couple people hating on Carol for what she’s been doing, and a lot of people have been speculating she’s the Knight (even I did for a little bit). So I’m going to toss out my own ideas and theories.
First, in defense of Carol Holiday.
Evidence 1, the guitar. Carol Holiday flips when she comes home and finds Susie with the guitar. I feel like she was upset by a stranger being in the house at all, but a stranger in the house, holding her missing daughter’s guitar? She has the right to be upset.
We’ve seen pretty clearly throughout the game that Carol doesn’t process grief through sadness, she processes it by burying herself in her work, and putting pressure on others. It makes sense that she would be angry to find that someone she doesn’t know is messing with Dess’ guitar.
I can see her thought process clearly ‘What if she broke it? What if she stole it?’ That guitar is one of the only pieces of Dess that she has left, and what if she lost that?
Evidence 2, the pressure on Noelle.
It’s implied that Carol was always tough on Noelle, and likely Dess as well, considering all the broken instruments in her room. I feel like with Dess missing and Rudy in the hospital, it’s putting Carol through a lot of grief and stress, which leads her to increase her pressure on Noelle.
If you thought that your daughter went missing because she was a troublemaker, who didn’t listen to her parents, who probably didn’t get the best grades, who didn’t seem to have a set future, wouldn’t you do everything in your power to make sure your other daughter wouldn’t do the same?
I think she’s so hard on Noelle, especially now, because she doesn’t want Noelle to vanish like Dess did. She doesn’t want Noelle to disappear too, because how many more people does Carol have to loose? Her husband is dying, her daughter is missing, and from her brief glimpse of the Living room, with Susie playing the guitar, she may think that Noelle is going down the same path that Dess did.
Okay, now that I’ve ranted about her (possible) motivations, I’d like to explain why I don’t think she’s the Knight. Obviously the Knight has antlers, and it makes the world around it colder, as seen by the snow falling in the green room, the ‘cold place’. But I don’t think Carol is the Knight.
Evidence 1, the red herrings.
Okay, so the Knight wields a dope sword, and Carol also has a katana set up in the living room, but, how difficult would it be to carry a katana around hometown without people talking about it? We also notice how Carol seems to come home early, conveniently after Kris calls the mysterious someone on their phone (who is likely Carol), but she still shows up in the Weird Route, when Kris never gets a chance to call her.
Also, going back to the cold, and the antlers of the Knight, this is an element all of the Holiday family members seem to share, as seen in Tenna’s flashback. We can’t use these as good evidence pieces when we still have another Holiday, with a lot of questions on her. Dess. (I don’t think Dess is entirely the Knight either, but I’ll go over my theories about Dess in another post.)
Evidence 2, the handedness.
The Knight definitely seems to be left handed, as it wields its sword with its left hand. Carol, however, appears to be right handed, as we see her holding the guitar with her right hand, and placing her right hand on Kris’ shoulder.
Not to mention, if the Knight is supposed to be wielding Carol’s katana, why would it be wielding it in its left hand either way? I don’t usually like using real-world logic for theories, but I figured I’d point out that Japanese swordsman were always trained to wield their Katana’s with their right hands.
You would assume that Carol would know this, have trained with her right hand, and thus would wield her sword with her right. Overall, even if Carol is left handed, it feels unlikely she’d wield a sword with her left hand.
Evidence 3, the timeline.
My final piece of evidence is that the Timeline for her being the Knight just doesn’t work out. We see her kicking everyone out, and proceeding to rant to Noelle. Kris and Susie, meanwhile, go down to check out the church. Unless she got done with her talk with Noelle, jumped out the window, sprinted through the woods, and barely opened the church dark fountains, there’s no way she could have opened those fountains!
The only other opportunity would be before she went to the Holiday house, but at that time, people likely would have still been in the church. Overall, the timeline for her to have been able to create the church dark worlds just doesn’t work out. Also, wouldn’t someone have noticed her sneaking into the school, or the library? Is she just walked in, wouldn’t have someone commented on it? Carol is a secluded woman, who doesn’t even meet with people in her office often. It just doesn’t make sense.
Like I’ve said before, I have some more to say about the Knight, specifically who it IS instead of who it isn’t, but I’ll likely handle all of that in another post.
For now, signing off, Quibbles :3

So Me and @samicom Were Messing Around With Some of the New Deltarune [Hyperlinks]
TW! DELTARUNE SPOLERS!!!
Mainly gonna talk about this page:
My initial thoughts upon discovering this page was that these were all the chapters in which you can go off script and enter a weird route, and the size of the number determines how far off you go from the original story and how much it will affect the rest of the plot.
Tumblr media
Clicking the 2 leads to d.ogg, the song that plays before the berdly fight in snowgrave.
Clicking on the 5 leads to another audio file (as far as I know all the links here are predominantly audio files) leads to this fragment of a song: (Note: These were all mp3's, not oggs)
Samicom found a space between the 2 and 4 that let to an audio file that played this:
I also clicked on the ⁴ and found a weirdly tiled red square, almost as if there was text in it... (and I could've sworn it was a red dot yesterday morning when I first saw the newsletter and a post about these new links on Tumblr)
I clicked on the weird square and thought it was a black screen until I moved my cursor around...
It lead to this really ominous sound that can either be interpreted as something dropping or a large, quite heavy door being closed.
I checked the link again and it led to a different, longer, yet still ominous audio.
Starting with h.ogg the same is being is used as in the song "Find her" which you can listen to HERE, Which is a remix of Lost Girl.
It also shares a motif with the song, A Town Called Hometown, and since it hasn't seemed to be used anywhere else in a game, I wonder is this may be one of Dess's motifs.
Also, in A Town Called Hometown, the supposed "Dess Motif" is played on a piano along with a violin (or maybe cello, not really good with instrument names) following it. It's heavily implied in chapter two, when going into the hospital and interacting with the piano with Susie that before Kris's possession, they might've played piano. As far as I know, nothing in game implies Noelle plays violin (do tell me if otherwise tho), but maybe Noelle, or even Asriel or someone else withing the Dreemurr/Holiday families played violin. On one hand, it could just be music, but on the other, Toby fox is notorious for sneaking in details to his music so you never know ;)
Maybe I'm projecting some theories I was exposed to on my Omori fandom days, but maybe Dess wrote this song or something and it was a childhood song of hers, Noelle's, Asriel's and Kris's. Maybe something about it, before her disappearance and severance between the two families stuck with Kris for better or worse and that's what we here in the light world in the evening.
Common Motif/Maybe the Same Song-wise, h and A Town Called Hometown reminded me of these two Omori songs a bIt:
ma sounds like a pitched down pacify sound effect, but I'm unsure. Is there even a pacify sound? I swore there was but can't seem to find it on Youtube so I'm unsure of what it could mean. Another guess is maybe a GASTER sound effect.
Last minute edit: Found this while going through Spamton Sweepstakes. Maybe this is referring to something you find in game to unlock the next shadow crystal, but what? Is it even something or someone? I've heard speculations on Ralsei leaving the dark world early so what if we need Ralsei for some odd reason?
As for the text, I'm unsure who it's referring to.
Tumblr media
Here's where my friend Samicom definitely comes in. When hearing m, for the first time, he came up with this theory, this isn't word-for-word but here's the jist of what he told me:
"Assuming were on the weird route, this could be the sound of Kris hiding Berdly's body in the bunker"
I can definitely see this happening myself, but there are two plotholes:
How had Berdly not turned to dust yet? Can Deltarune monsters, like their Undertale counterparts, even turn into dust? Is Berdly in a forever state of "Fallen Down"?
How does Kris unlock the bunker. Does someone unlock it for them?
As for e, listening to them back to back, I realized they are REVERSED. A quick theory from my end assuming there's a weird route here, the sound effects maybe substitute for when you're descending into the weird route in chapter 2, and represent the slight ability you still have to change fate.
Another plausible theory from my end is that we're gonna hear this in the church dark world (most likely at the beginning or end) or maybe just the church in general, and m.ogg can really just be a door closing.
(Again, projecting from Omori) Churches can be kinda ominous. The Dreemurrs and Holidays seem fairly religious, maybe Kris or Susie (assuming Susie also attends church with Kris before the dark world adventure) feel some sort of spiritual tension or perhaps a sin on their shoulders. Many people assume Chapter 4 is gonna be a more serious chapter so there's that.
In conclusion, the webpage deltarune.com/chapter5 is full of weird, lore heavy secrets. You know what else probably is though? The new Spamton Sweepstakes ALTERNATE ENDING!!! This post was getting too long/jumbled, but Samicom shared with me some interesting stuff on here, so feel free to explore this on you're own time. I need to explore it a bit more too before I make a post on it.
BONUS: I also noticed how all the audios are one letter titles with the exception of ma, so I wonder if they're abbreviations. If so,, here's what I got for them:
d: One letter away from "dog"; d can stand for December and in Dess Holiday or Dog as in Annoying Dog.
h: h can most likely stand for Holiday as in the Holiday family.
ma: unsure; but TV-MA (mature) is an American age rating for television. Perhaps it could be the age rating for the movies Noelle and Dess watched. Though if that's the case, the file would be called "r.mp3" but that could be confused with Ralsei though.
m: Unsure. Perhaps Mayor as in Mayor Holiday, Noelle's seemingly COLD mother? Or Man as in The Man Behind the Tree?
e: Egg??? the two sound effect titles in order also spell out ME, but who could that refer to? Kris, us, the man behind the tree, Dess, the Knight, or someone else entirely?
Perhaps there can also be an anagram in here somewhere, but that's all I got for now. Peace. Deltarune in 24 tomorrows (PST)

I realized something weird.
Everyone keeps making their Dess designs look sixteen or something.
Everyone keeps portraying her as an angsty teen who dresses in all black and stuff, or as the stereotypical cool girl who wears flannel all the time. Though I admit both are partially confirmed and whatnot, was she not a sixth grader???
Look, Azzy is presumably in his first year of college due to the fact that no one is fully used to him not being a constant presence in the town, right? And he and Dess were the same age, so if she were still around she’d be in her first year of college too.
And Dess disappeared roughly seven years ago, which aligns with how young Noelle looked in Berdly’s spelling bee story, as well as how long How To Draw Dragons has been checked out.
So we just need to subtract seven from 13, which gives us 6.
She was hardly in middle school, or maybe even not at all, depending on what kind of school system Hometown has.
She was most likely just the kind of kid who thought that she was such a cool big kid that she should do cool stuff now. Unique leaves doesn’t necessarily mean weed like so many people think, especially if she was that young, it could have just been cool leaves she and Noelle had collected when exploring the forest with Azzy and Kris.
Military rations, sports equipment, leather jackets, and instruments don’t necessarily mean epic teenager cool girl. It could just be a kid who really wants to look cool, is fascinated by military stuff, likes sports, and is really just a musical prodigy like Tenna said.
So I’m just kinda confused why everyone makes her out to be such a stereotypical “bad girl” or “cool girl”.

what music do you think kris would be into
right NOW i think theyre into like tumblr weirdcore (tmbg, lemon demon, etc) plus a huge collection of video game osts half of which theyve never even played the games. dess also taught em a bit of grunge and stuff but they feel kind of bad listening to it now
as they age and branch out and do more composing i think they'll get increasingly into niche and strange music. caretaker and the like may be a first gateway since that has Internet Popularity, and open their eyes to weird noise things people are doing with sampling and strange instrumentation and unconventional non-music and such. catch kris age 20 listening to a strange shifting drone that's sampled from the gaps in between tracks on a vinyl record or something

Some deltarune theories before chapters 3 & 4 release.
1. Sepia flashbacks
The opening cutscene of undertale is a sepia flashback that's assumed to be about the player's character - a human that fell into the underground. In deltarune, similar cutscenes are used for the legend, and the roaring (and also for the most recent trailer, which somewhat debunks this theory).
If the cutscenes are a flashback, as they were in undertale, there should have been a prior trio of protagonists, who I would guess are an unknown darkner as the prince from the dark, Asriel as the monster, and Dess as the human (we haven't seen Dess or C. Holiday in game, which could be setup for a reveal that they are humans). This would also explain some of the parallels between characters such as Dess and Kris both being associated with a musical instrument (Guitar and Piano), and a bunch of other parallels between the Holiday and Dreemurr families. If this is the case, it's also possible that Kris' fate is to go missing at the end of the game in the same way that Dess did.
There's also some connections between the monsters of each party - Asriel has the 'how to draw dragons' book, while Susie is described as a dragon by the description of the Mane Ax ('Beginner's ax forged from the mane of a dragon whelp.'), assuming that the mane described is a dark world equivalent of her hair.
If there are two parties of characters, and there are supposed to be certain roles within each party and their darkworlds, there is also a potential for this to explain the deltarune element pairs system: one parties' 'Thunder' is the other parties' 'Light', similar to how in Homestuck's Sburb worlds, prototyping causes the world to change to reflect the players of the game.
Given Susie's ability to alter the story, and the vagueness behind the title 'monster' within the setting, I wonder if Susie was intended to be the party's monster. Kris was almost paired with Noelle at the start of the game.
2.Kris' room
Kris' side of the room being empty has always been assumed to be a judgement of Kris' character; no achievements, few luxuries, just a bed and a cage. It's compelling to believe that Kris' motive for acting out is due to a silent resentment for being mistreated, but it doesn't fit in game scenes where any of the characters actually talk about them, and there are scenes in the game when we see a room full of objects get mostly emptied out: after sealing a dark fountain. I think that the Dreemurr household has previously held a dark world, and Kris' belongings were moved to a pure dark fountain in order to allow the darkners to continue to exist after the fountain was closed.
3. Titans exist in the light world
If we assume that hometown/ the light world is what is 'past the dark' Spamton's dialogue suggests that being 'big' would allow him to enter the light world.
'SO BIG WE'LL STAND UP TALL AND SEE PAST THE DARK' - Spamton Neo
This correlates with the title of 'titans' used to describe the threat of the roaring - darkners given a form which will threaten both the light and dark worlds, emblematic of fiction bleeding into reality.
'The TITANS will take form from the FOUNTAINS' - The roaring cutscene.
There are some potential candidates for titans from what we've already seen - ICE-E, having existed in a way that could scare Noelle, and Ralsei being able to traverse between dark worlds, could both be considered titans.
4. The seven human souls' traits
In undertale, according to the golf minigame, each human soul corresponds with a trait. These traits, in addition to the souls and their undertale iconography and equipment, may appear as a theme for each chapter.
Red (Chara) - Is pictured on the official fangamer Devil tarot card, uses Knives. In deltarune, this parallels the Devilsknife. Additionally, Jevil's quote inviting the party to play a 'SIMPLE NUMBERS GAME' parallels Chara's role in Undertale, claiming to be a manifestation of the player's desire to make numbers bigger, such as when grinding for exp:
"Every time a number increases, that feeling...
That's me."
Yellow(Justice) - Within Undertale's neutral route flowey fight, each soul has an attack and a method of healing the player. Yellow's method of attacking is a gun (relates to the big shot mechanic & the Spamton Neo's hand cannon), and healing is a 4 leaf clover, something typically assumed to be lucky. In contrast, Spamton's story relates to his luck with customers, with the other addisons concluding that Spamton was 'Like the rest of us. Just… a little unlucky.'
Spamton's luck caused a sense of unease with the addisons, who believed that Spamton didn't deserve his luck. That it was unjust
"What? What did he do? Why did HE deserve this?"
It could also be anecdotal, but the word 'just' shows up a lot in Spamton's quotes, which could be wordplay on Spamton considering himself to be just, i.e justified in the deals he made, or it could be a coincidence due to the English language.
"AND I HAVE JUST.
THE THING.
YOU NEED."
"DON'T YOU W4NT TO BE JUST LIKE YOUR OLD PAL SPAMTON????"
Following these comparisons, future chapters should contain a secret boss that relates in some way relates to the remaining souls.
Potential parallels include
Green (kindness) - wielded a pan, and attacked with fire or healed by cooking eggs. This may manifest in something that relates to Toriel's stove, a cooking show, fire metaphors such as a 'burning desire' or themes involving food items.
Purple (perseverance) - attacks using books and words flying out of the books. This could relate to a holy book in hometown church, or a book themed character. Gerson is known for his book 'Lord of the hammer', and Father Alvin mentions that they received condolences from fans until recently, suggesting that the book may be becoming forgotten, something which aligns with prior secret bosses. Father Alvin also bids farewell to Kris in chapter 1 by saying 'may you find the words you seek'.
Blue (integrity) - attacks with a ballet shoe and stars, which turn into music notes to heal the player. The connection to music immediately makes me think of the song from the sea, possibly implicating onion in this chapter. Stars relate to the dark/star element pairing that Spamton mentioned.
Orange (bravery) - attacks using a glove, heals using a glove. The 'tough glove' item that corresponds with this soul in Undertale sounds like a pun on 'tough love'. Maybe Asgore or Susie's home situation will be addressed in this chapter.
Cyan (patience) -Attacks using a toy knife, heals using a bandage. The hospital contains bandages, and relates to Noelle's want to heal her father, and the hospital and classroom both contain toys, making both potential candidates for a connection to a secret boss, I assume that by this point in the story there may be multiple smaller dark fountains opened per chapter, containing optional side content, or connecting to the chapter's main dark world in a similar way to how Castle town is treated in chapters 1 and 2, consisting of one or two dark world rooms that may connect areas in the light world, or which allow the player to enter and exit the dark worlds when they are ready to face the optional side content. Perhaps the shadow mantle's role is to allow the party to exit the dark world early for this reason, using the shadow crystal's ability to see through the darkness in order to move back into the light world.

PSUEDO ECHO - DELTARUNE - AND FUNKY TOWN POST 2
POST 1: https://www.tumblr.com/uevos/784994190325088256/psuedo-echo-deltarune-and-funky-town?source=share
PART 2 CONTINUED
Last time we were analyzing "Everybody Knows" and the only lyrics i still had to point out from that before reaching the image limit were
Tumblr media
I mean this is how Chapter 2 ended. So there's that. Anyways lets see what the next song is called. "I need some cash" oh shit
Tumblr media
It's about a guy who wants money. Spamton! Spamton alert! idk nothing else in the song is specifically spamtoncoded or referenced in deltarune so next song. Still though.
Tumblr media
Background singer! aside from the stuff about being overshadowed and spotlights, we can't get much from this song that can be tied back to deltarune. Man. Bit of a drought.
Next song can't be tied back to deltarune so NEXT ALBUM! It's called 4.
Tumblr media
AND THE LYRICS ARE MISSING FUCK!!! Funk 108 says "Body. You can create." Maybe that's how Spamton Neo was devised. I dunno nothing else here matches.
Cryin' Over You has some Noelle stuff. "Pretending things didn't go sour. You're gonna do what you need to do." Yeah okay maybe some songs aren't relevant to Deltarune's development and plot. But maybe the next song has something for us?
Tumblr media
KRIS SLEPT ALL DAY THROUGH CLASS THINKING ABOUT GOING OUT TO THE DARK WORLD KRIS NEEDS A [[BIG SHOT]] OFF THE STREET KRIS IS ADDICTED TO THE DARK WORLDS (NIGHT)
Tumblr media
KICKS? LIKE SHOES? ADDISONS? FUCK. FUCK. GET SHOEPILLED BUDDY,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Burning optic nerves... This is too fucking close.
Tumblr media
So, throughout these songs, it seems that Chapter 2 in general has been inspired by Lipps Inc, the songs aren't inspiring individual characters, so it's okay for some lines to fit Spamton and some to fit Kris. It's okay. Anyways. It's too bright in the light. Too bright in the night. Spamton wants to escape the dark world. Also the song talks about wanting to be alone in the dark and spamton says he doesn't need friends.
The next song, On To You, is more stuff about being suspicious of someone sneaking around. We know what thats about already so after that is "Never could be sorry"
uhh stuff about trains and tracks and predeterminism. stuff about the "World is shining in my eyes" and "Nows my chance" and hearts. You can connect it but ehh. The song has TWO sick ass solos. TWO. That's fucking awesome. Go listen to it NOW. listen to never could be sorry now.
After the Instrumental "Choir Practice" (I don't need to tell you deltarune has religious symbolism in it, it's an RPG) there's the song Obsessed.
Tumblr media
Okay that's noelle and dess maybe. Yeah i know the song is romantic but you can. you can just ignore that. maybe it's about noelle and kris. i dunno. Okay next album!!! i get that alot of these connections are probably bullshit but there are some really strong ones and all these little weak ones sort of shore up those strong ones so please PLEASE keep reading. Anyways the next song "Lets all get back to the floor" is more Noelle is suspicious of Kris stuff. Next album time. I swear i have some more concrete shit coming up. Infact...
Does Anybody Know Me?
Tumblr media
First instinct- "Everybody knew who i was" makes this a Spamton inspiraton. WRONG! Gaster. Nobody knows him. He doesn't exist anymore. No one recognizes him.
Tumblr media
Gaster is gone, gone from the world. Dreaming in the night? All alone?
Tumblr media
STAIRS???
Hit the Deck is the last song here and it doesn't really fit our analysis in any way.
The next album, and the last album, is funkyworld. It's all songs we covered before, but it was released in 1997. Interesting!
Anyways I know this was all a bit of a stretch, but post 3 is coming. Later. I'm gonna go do something else now

thinking back to the idea of parallel instruments again: you have piano for kris and gaster, guitar for susie and dess, and music box for noelle and possibly asriel. kris:susie:noelle::gaster:dess:asriel
we could read a certain amount of parallelism in the personality traits, or possibly even the theoretical archetypes, for these characters. susie and dess might be similarly rebellious, tomboyish, and protective -- we could call these "hero" traits, in the sense of a young, plucky RPG protagonist. noelle and asriel might be similarly sweet, sensitive, and accommodating -- possibly "love interest" traits.
kris and gaster are harder to compare, given the lack of real insight into one or both personalities... though we could argue that this, itself, is a parallel. we can at least hazard a guess that kris and gaster are alike in being quiet, serious, opaque, maybe a bit "dark." we could maybe lump mischief in there, too. could we call that a bit "villain-coded"? not that kris (or gaster) is, in fact, a literal villain -- but that they have qualities one might see in a classic villain (how Byronic... lol...). it's never entirely clear what they're intending, or whether they can fully be trusted not to turn on us.
there's also the matter of cohorts and relationships. setting aside gaster for a moment: kris, susie, and noelle represent the current cohort of teens; dess and asriel are from the "previous" cohort of teens, now young adults. the latter two are both currently "missing" from the story -- asriel being away at college, dess having disappeared entirely. we can infer that dess and asriel are involved in some amount of story-relevant, pre-canon history. we might even get a sense here of something being repeated -- similar roles, new cast of teens. susie and noelle's relationship trajectory, and its priority in the narrative, might parallel dess and asriel's, as hinted by dess wearing his jacket. kris is very close to susie; we could say that susie, at this point, is kris's best friend, and likely the closest friend they've made in a long time. we can also hazard a guess, from context clues, that they have romantic feelings for susie that, due to factors beyond their control, they're unable to express or act on effectively.
so... like... what happens when we put gaster back into it? if we solve for x, if we follow the parallelism to its conclusion... what could this mean for him? sans does have at least one younger brother, name currently unknown, who isn't currently present in the story, who we might meet around the time asriel comes home...

#and and AND. whether kris does it right or not is one thing. but also!! playing it on an instrument that is decidedly Not Theirs#guitar is dess (though she's apparently a musical prodigy so.) and mmmaaaaybe susie bc of all her themes being absolute shredders#but kris? kris is the piano. an instrument entirely absent from this stage performance (& even the entire house)#& sure. the dreemurrs aren't Holiday-levels of rich. they don't own a piano‚ all those elements r kept for ch4‚ makes sense#but in ch3? at most we get a quippy little ''kris on the piano! you love to see it folks!'' from tenna. it feels so. off#like what do u mean Kris' defining instrument. a rare thing they express themself fully through. is nowhere ot be found in their own house#or that house's dark world at least.#anyway. playing Dess' song using Dess' guitar and Kris' hands in Kris' house. with nary a keyboard in sight. the poor children
THIS!!!!!
AND for Susie, its the fact that she is given the drums because its "what she's good at". Beating things.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even if Susie had fun, it was once again her being put in a box because of what she looks like. Not giving her a chance to choose something she has interest in, and something that fits her theme, the guitar. Because the guitar is the lead in a band, and it would be wrong for her to be one. (and her noise is not even allowed to be HEARD)
Tumblr media
actually crazy the meta writing in this stupid minigame.
They're playing Dess' song. Even if she's the Knight or not, its still a song made by someone who believed in the Prophecy. Its a song to inspire whoever is following it
-Susie immediately starts making noise and ruining the song, to the point Tenna had to mute her
-Ralsei is changing the lyrics to Dess' song, and rewriting them to sound friendlier
-Kris is the only one doing it proper, but whether they suceed or not depends on the player

Holidays, Dreemurrs, and Music: a detailed series of headcanons
inspired by undertale (the song), don't forget, and kris canonically playing piano
I. December
december holiday has been playing piano for so long that no one remembers whether it was her idea or her mother's. she's never showed as much passion for it as her mother may have liked - at any given time, she'd almost certainly rather be outside, causing havoc with her friends and her whiffle bat in some corner of town - but she stuck to it, becoming hometown's star musician. and no, she doesn't have any real competition, but she's good. just good enough.
being as dedicated to it as she is lets dess get away with other things. the biggest example was when her grades began to slip; after enough pushing and arguments, her parents resolved that, if she couldn't go to the top traditional university, she would aim to go to a well-respected conservatory instead. her grades just had to be good enough.
the holiday family could afford for their eldest daughter to not be the top student, because noelle could take on that responsibility. even if it meant she'd hardly have time for anything else. certainly not the time to learn an instrument. (this was decided for noelle by the time she finished first grade. )
dess performs on occasion. she plays at church a few times to back a solo from star choir boy asriel. other times, she plays as the background to parties at the family home. sometimes, she plays for the other kids.
the human is always the most enraptured by this, and often eyes the piano when they come over. they've asked at least once if she could teach them how to play, but she always laughs them off. why would she spend twice the time at the piano she had to, teaching some twerp the basics that now bore her to tears?
and so, kris does not end up being the first dreemurr child to learn an instrument.
II. Asriel
at the end of the last class for the year, gerson pulls asriel aside, compliments him on his singing voice, and asks if he's ever considered playing an instrument. his son alvin, gerson muses, once dreamed of being a musician, after his dreams of being an artist and a poet, before his dreams of being a preacher. so gerson got him a guitar, which alvin played for a couple of years before leaving it to collect dust.
he shows it to asriel, and asks, would you like to have this? asriel takes it.
asriel largely ends up teaching himself, though when father alvin learns of this turn of events, he does give the boy some lessons. he treats it as a casual hobby. still, the new skill helps his social status continue to climb. the other teens admire him. some of the parents (jokingly) say he's gonna be a rockstar, a big shot.
he will continue to play guitar into college. he is the guy at the party playing wonderwall.
III. Kris
as asriel begins to get the hang of his new instrument, he tries to get kris interested in it (since they've always shown a fondness for music, and asriel's current plans for the future have defaulted to being a teacher like his mother). they try it out for a little while, but their hands have trouble with the texture of the strings and the positioning for the trickier chords. their failed attempts frustrate them, to the point where, for a while, they can't stand the sound of the instrument at all. they refuse to keep practicing.
asriel brings it up to dess the next time they talk.
a few days later, dess invites kris over. she surprises them by saying she'll be giving them piano lessons. the most explanation she offers them is that, if she can teach them when asriel couldn't, she'll be able to hold it over his head for the rest of his life.
kris goes along with it. after all, no one says no to december holiday.
asriel looks surprised when kris returns and shares what they got up to. but then he sighs and says, "of course.", followed by him excitedly asking his sibling what they've already learned.
(after this lesson, he starts paying dess a small amount for each of them. the first time, she tries to make a show of turning him down that neither of them believes.)
what surprises everyone is how quickly kris learns and improves. they've soon blown past the basics onto decently complex compositions.
their style of play is different from dess. dess plays fast and hits the keys hard, especially once she's gotten into the groove of a piece. it's an outlet for her. her hands move so quickly that it seems impossible. and, in a sense, it is, as she usually makes a small handful of mistakes, but her speed gives listeners hardly any time to notice them. she plays confident, ruthless, and blunt.
kris, by comparison, is quieter and more deliberate. at the start, it takes them a while to repeat back what dess asks her to play, with pauses between each note, but once they've got it down, it's memorized for good. each key is hit with tact and purpose. they can play subtly in a way dess doesn't. and, with enough practice, they even begin to catch up to her in speed.
dess, for all her posturing and her recognition of the kid's willpower, wasn't expecting this. she doesn't take it seriously at first. she pretends to be bitter at their natural talent. then, it feels less like pretending. then, as she's scrambling to keep ahead of them, she sometimes catches herself feeling... she's not sure. not envious; she doesn't care if she's not the best piano player. she hardly even cares about piano anymore.
but she did once. and what she rediscovers, as the weeks pass, is why.
she doesn't tell her parents she's doing these lessons, but they inevitably find out in short time. fortunately, they're both supportive of it.
noelle sometimes sits nearby and does her homework while observing these lessons. she's always admired dess's piano playing, in a way that makes her disinclined to try and learn the instrument for herself. piano is dess's thing, not hers.
but there is a part of her that looks at the two of them on the bench; at a slowly emerging version of dess who's just a touch softer and seems to listen a tad closer; and wishes she could be a part of it.
one day when noelle isn't there, kris arrives early, and hears dess playing something new. it's slower and simpler than anything they've heard her play on her own.
she won't tell kris what it's called when they ask. but, at the end of that lesson or the next, she tells them it's because it's a song she's writing. she swears them to secrecy, emphasizing not to tell noelle in particular. she will share it when it's done. maybe then she'll even teach it to kris.
...
she never does.
...
kris remembers how at least that first part of the song went, from having eavesdropped on dess practicing it. they think it might have had words, but they don't remember those.
kris keeps at it. they look up tutorials and sheet music online to continue their learning. they practice at the church or the hospital instead of the holiday's. they do it for dess, and they do it for themself.
(sometimes, they swear they can hear her playing in the back of their head.)
they keep playing.
...until they can't.
IV. Noelle
the house is so much quieter without dess. without her voice. without her personality. without her music.
asriel checks in on noelle when he can (when he isn't busy worrying about kris, or how things with his parents are suddenly unraveling). he tries to talk to her, to coax her back out of her shell, but he doesn't have the words to describe how even he feels.
one time, he brings over his guitar. he plays a song or two (noelle's choice), then hands it to her and lets her fiddle around with it.
as she tentatively strums, he asks if she ever wanted to learn a musical instrument. she says nothing, but keeps strumming. he asks if she'd like him to teach her guitar.
noelle stops and looks at him. the house is quiet. silent. she nods.
the guitar lessons are held at asriel's house. noelle decides to keep it a secret from her mother, using berdly and catti as cover stories. she does so partly because she expects her mother would see it as a distraction from school (this coming not long after the spelling bee fiasco), but also because a rift has formed between her parents and asriel's since... the incident. she isn't going to risk making things any worse. after some time, she's able to say she's going to the dreemurrs, but to help kris with homework, at the point where asriel starts getting too busy and teenage-d to help kris with it as much.
considering her practice is limited to once a week visits (which eventually become once every other week, then once a month), noelle learns and progresses her skills at a good rate. it becomes a good source of stress relief for her, and even, eventually, pride.
by then, she starts wishing she had a guitar of her own. especially as asriel's graduation, and subsequent departure for college, draw closer.
she asks her mother one night. she initially frames it as if she'd only just recently become interested, but then backpedals to say she's had some lessons with asriel already on her off-time, and he's said she's got a talent for it.
she asks, and her mother says no.
noelle freezes. but then she thinks of dess, and she speaks up. she says it's unfair. music has helped her. it gives her mind something productive to focus on that isn't school. it gives her an outlet.
it lets her feel close to her sister. and if dess got to learn to play piano, why can't-
no, says mrs. holiday. dess started learning early; no amount of "raw talent" noelle might have can make up for her starting later than she, or even kris, did. and guitar, really? you can't play guitar in an orchestra. guitar is for meandering folk songs or crass rock. piano is a more respectable instrument. dess learned world-renowned classical pieces on piano. that is the kind of music holidays play.
(mrs. holiday once played piano. she doesn't have time for that anymore. hasn't since dess was born.)
does she actually say all of this? or does she just say no?
the result is the same.
noelle stops going to lessons.
asriel leaves.
but it turns out that he and rudy talked before that, about noelle. and as a result of that conversation, a week or two later, rudy surprises noelle with something:
a ukelele.
she'll have to relearn the chords, due to the lower number of strings. and the timbre is different. but it's not so different. and compared to a guitar, it's easy to hide.
by the time of the game's events, noelle has learned a few songs on the thing. at least one of which she may or may not use to serenade a certain purple girl, once she works up the courage to.
in time, she'll get the guitar she wanted. as kris will get their own piano or keyboard.
from there?
well. imagine, if you will, a band. with a human on the keys, a purple girl on the drums, and a deer girl on the guitar - an electric guitar, that is. perhaps there's also a bird boy playing premade synth loops, and a goth cat girl on the bass, or vocals, or both. maybe even a (former) prince with pink horns on backing vocals. add or subtract, mix and match, to your pleasure.
imagine too, a song completed, and finally heard by its intended audience, lyrics and all.
imagine a piano and guitar - perhaps, two pianos and two guitars - playing harmonizing melodies as the curtains close and the credits roll.
