'It’s a sign you’ve made it in Hollywood when the roles you’ve been offered are just as prestigious as the roles you’ve accepted. Matt Damon – one of his era’s most bankable stars – is a stellar example. The Golden Globe-winning actor infamously turned down Jake Skully in James Cameron's Avatar, losing him an estimated $250 million paycheck in the process (“It’s the dumbest thing an actor ever did in the history of acting,” he later joked), but this is only one time when Damon’s career almost took a sharp 90-degree turn. When factoring in such possibilities as Brokeback Mountain, Training Day, and Star Trek (to name but a small selection) it’s not inconceivable to suggest that Damon could have built an entirely divergent filmography for himself and still obtained his A-list status. Quite an accomplishment indeed.
But of all the incredible movies that Damon just missed out on, there’s one that provokes the most interest in a What If...? style excursion into the realm of speculation – none other than a leading role in the undisputed king of superhero films, The Dark Knight. When Christopher Nolan was casting for his most influential (and perhaps greatest) directorial work, Damon was one of many actors he considered for the part of Harvey Dent, Gotham City’s righteous district attorney who gradually transforms into the revenge-fueled tyrant Two-Face. Unlike the other names in contention, Damon was offered the job, although scheduling conflicts prevented him from saying yes. The Dark Knight would later prove to be one of the decade's most acclaimed films, and it’s hard to imagine that Damon’s regret at not being involved factored into his appearances in future Nolan films. Key roles in Interstellar and Oppenheimer have since confirmed Damon as a paid-up member of the Nolan entourage, and with the actor overflowing with praise for the renowned director, one suspects that he wishes he'd signed up sooner.
Harvey Dent Is 'The Dark Knight’s Most Important Character
It’s easy to forget how important Harvey Dent is to The Dark Knight. Of course, anyone who has to compete for screentime with Heath Ledger’s stunning tour de force performance as the Joker – arguably the greatest feat of acting in the history of superhero movies – will struggle to obtain the spotlight, but Dent plays such an integral role in the story there’s a case for him being the film’s secret main character. At its core, The Dark Knight is about a struggle between Batman (Christian Bale) and the Joker for the fate of Harvey Dent, with each having placed an idealistic goal on the district attorney that represents their preferred vision for Gotham. When we first encounter Dent during the trial for one of mob boss Sal Maroni’s (Eric Roberts) associates, he embodies everything that Batman wishes he could be: a glowing beacon of justice who operates entirely within the law. He’s the legitimate hero Gotham deserves, and it’s no surprise that Batman comes to view him not just as an ally, but also as a potential successor. Harvey Dent is a savior who seems too good to be true, and as comic fans will already know, that’s more accurate than any of his passionate supporters would like to admit.
Given how important Harvey Dent is to The Dark Knight (practically every theme the film explores is intricately linked to his character’s moral collapse), choosing an actor to play him was never going to be easy. Not only would they have to modernize the classic all-American hero archetype for the digital age, but they would also have to imbue their performance with undercurrents of suppressed anger that would gradually envelop him as the film progressed. The combination of Robert F. Kennedy charisma with Norman Bates the-evil-next-door subterfuge would be difficult for any actor to believably portray (especially when you’re missing half of your face) but thankfully Nolan had just the person in mind.
Scheduling Conflicts Prevented Matt Damon From Accepting the Role
Conceptually, Matt Damon was the ideal choice for Harvey Dent. His screen persona as a handsome tough guy with enough charm to inflate a helium balloon was practically designed for an aspiring politician who could convince anyone to vote for him with only a smile and a well-placed slogan, and it would also make for some friendly rivalry between him and Christian Bale as they competed to be Gotham’s most desirable bachelor. However, Damon has also proven himself to be one of Hollywood’s most idiosyncratic and at times underrated stars – frequently taking roles deflecting the criticisms aimed at many A-list stars that they’re essentially just playing themselves. Even Jason Bourne, Damon’s most recognizable role, lacks the allure of similar spy icons like James Bond and Ethan Hunt, but deliberately so. He’s a nebulous character whose as much a mystery to himself as he is to everyone else, but also someone who’s not afraid to get his hands dirty if the situation calls for it much like another role that was coming Damon’s way.
Sadly, it wasn’t meant to be. The age-old problem of scheduling conflicts prevented his involvement in The Dark Knight, with Damon having already committed to headlining another project. Given that the opportunity to lead a major Hollywood production is one that most actors never come within reach of, and Dent was – to quote Damon – a “relatively small” part in a film that no one suspected would become a cultural behemoth, it’s forgivable that he would turn it down in favor of the role he perceived as more significant. That said, it’s curious that he would refer to Dent using those terms. Batman and the Joker may have far and away the most screentime in The Dark Knight, but Dent is unequivocally the backbone of the entire narrative (even the title refers more to Dent than it does to Batman) – but his decision was final, prompting Nolan to cast Aaron Eckhart instead. Damon has insisted that he has no regrets over what happened, stating in an interview with MTV that Eckhart is “a great actor” who benefitted the film immensely. That may be true, but it’s hard to think that part of him didn’t feel a bang of remorse when The Dark Knight’s box office numbers came rushing in.
Matt Damon Worked With Christopher Nolan in 'Interstellar' & 'Oppenheimer'
The release of The Dark Knight in July 2008 was nothing short of a revolution. Overnight, expectations of what a superhero film could be were shattered by one of the most impeccably crafted films in years, proving that even a story about a billionaire who dresses as a bat could describe itself as prestige cinema. The film cemented its winning streak months later when it became the first superhero movie to earn major recognition during the end-of-year awards season, and it wouldn’t take long for the slew of dark, gritty imitators to follow in its wake (for better or for worse). Today it is regarded as one of the most influential films ever made, and while the central reason for its longevity is often placed squarely at the feet of Ledger’s Joker, the truth is far more complex. The Dark Knight has an ensemble cast for a reason, but it’s Harvey Dent who stands as its greatest asset. His downfall from honorable prospector to deranged killer is the glue that holds the entirety of The Dark Knight together, and Eckhart deserves immense praise for his contributions in turning this once silly character into one of the most thematically compelling villains in the Batman mythos.
But how different things could have been! We’ll never know how Damon would have performed in the role, and getting lost in the labyrinth of guesswork is a path to madness, but we can infer that – despite his earlier comments to the contrary – part of him regretted turning it down. No doubt this factored into his enthusiasm at accepting an even smaller role in Nolan’s sci-fi epic Interstellar – a part so minute it was left out of the marketing campaign to avoid misleading audiences about his screentime (although, as with Harvey Dent, it’s an important role in the overarching plot). “I wanted to be part of that troupe,” as he confirmed years later, adding that “[Nolan] works with the same actors over and over again [and] I wanted to be on that ride.” Well, thanks to a pivotal role as General Leslie Groves in Oppenheimer, he has finally achieved his wish, with recent interviews indicating that he eagerly awaits their next collaboration. Better late than never, but with The Dark Knight still popularly considered Nolan’s best film, it’s safe to say that he’s still a little upset at having waited so long.'

I'm so glad this is out now! (And I'm so pleased to be in it!)
The multiverse opens the mind to infinite possibilities. But some things remain immortal, including the legend of Sherlock Holmes of Dr. John Watson. These characters made such an indelible impression on the world's consciousness that they have been imitated in countless ways ever since Sir Arthur Conan Doyle created them. Now, members of the International Association of Media Tie-In Writers, who know a thing or two about adaptations, are taking the Holmes and Watson template a step further by offering you stories about Holmes and Watson throughout the multiverse. Our writers have placed the archetypal detectives into new genres, alien worlds, and historical time periods that may or may not exist. We go from medieval India to the far reaches of space, from 12th-century manhunters to gender-swapped consulting detectives. The all-new stories are brought to you by a stellar array of writers: Aaron Rosenberg, Ammar Habib, Ben H. Rome, Bryan Young, David McDonald, Dayton Ward, David Avallone, Diane Duane, Gini Koch & Anita Ensal, Jennifer Brody, Jennifer Brozek, John Peel, Keith R.A., DeCandido, Lorraine J. Anderson, Marsheila Rockwell, Neil Kleid, Scott Pearson, Steven Philip Jones Teel James Glenn, and Will McDermott. The anthology is curated by veteran tie-in authors Carrie Harris (Marvel, Miraculous Ladybug) and Robert Greenberger (Star Trek, Thrilling Adventure Yarns).
It's at Amazon... and at B&N.

author's note: Sorry for the delay, hope it was worth it! I also want to thank the sweet anon for the ask with the Robert Siken poem, which I included here. Next part will be straight-up filthy smut, so stay tuned, fellow sluts.

-.-.-
You don’t see much of each other for the next couple of days. Aaron is on autopilot, avoiding any chance to be alone with you. The rest of the team unknowingly act as a buffer and all he has to do is not look at you during work hours, keep the door to his office shut to not hear your laughter.
It’s a relief when you and Morgan are called to testify in court for a case. You’re somewhere far away for the day, where he knows you’re safe and he can go back to pretending nothing has changed.
The problems start when he’s not being kept busy.
How much paperwork can one person do?
The stars align oddly in his favor and he’s into calls or meetings until long after everyone else has gone home. When ten pm rolls around, he finally calls it quits but sees no point in leaving in a hurry. It’s past Jack’s bed time, it’d be cruel to wake him up now and carry him back home when tomorrow’s Sunday. If all goes well, he can pick him in the morning and they’ll get to spend the day together.
His finger is hovering over Jessica’s number when he spots your name in his call logs. It’s silly and childish, but he hasn’t thought of you in a couple of hours and God.
Deep down, he knows he’s been incredibly unfair to you. He had to. Had to tell himself it was something outside of him causing him torment. An obstacle to overcome, a distraction to ignore. He had to act as if you were forcing your way into his life in order to be able to put up walls, but what have you really done except exist near him? He is the one to blame for allowing it to grow beneath his skin; succumbing to his need for some sort of intimacy when he could have -should have- nipped this at the bud a very long time ago. He recognized it within himself the other day, when he realized he could have -should have- kissed you.
But nothing is healed with a kiss. Only new grievances arise.
It’s where you go from there that matters and he finds himself unable to guide or be guided.
Where do you go from here?
When he decides to feed his insomnia with a cup of late-night coffee, he is yet again reminded of you. So, he calls, but you don’t answer and he pours another, completely indifferent to the idea of sleep.
It’s getting too late to be here, even by his standards. He tries calling again, but, no answer. He gathers his stuff to leave and there is a horrible feeling at the pit of his stomach when he settles inside the car. It’s only eleven and you always say you never sleep this early.
Another call, this time to Emily, who miraculously, picks up.
“Hello? Hotch?”
There is a deafening buzz in the background; loud voices and music blasting.
Aaron apologizes for the late hour and tries to be discreet when he asks about you. Says he needs to go over something about a case file but you won’t answer his calls and he got worried.
“Yeah, she’s fine, she’s right here with me, but it’s a little hard to get her right now. Is it urgent?”
“Uh, no, don’t bother her. Is everyone else there too?”
“Not everyone, just the two of us, Garcia and Morgan. Do you need them as well?”
You didn’t invite him, why would you? He would have never said yes.
“No, it’s okay. I’ll figure it out tomorrow.”
“Sorry, sir, I can’t make out much with all this noise. We’re at the ‘Matter’ if you need us. I’ll tell the guys to call you as soon as they can, okay? Have a good night.”
So, he drives two miles a little before midnight to come sit outside ‘Matter’, which is apparently a very busy nightclub downtown, half a mile away from the nearest parking spot he could find.
He doesn’t really know why he came.
He can’t come in and join you. Can’t ask for you.
They probably wouldn’t even let him in while dressed like this.
It’s very unclear what the next step is.
He knows it’s pointless to call you again when you’re probably too busy dancing and drinking with a great many people who are not him. Morgan has some trouble keeping his hands to himself when he drinks.
He sits on the curb of the street, cracks open the pack of cigarettes he snack out of the car’s glove compartment, always hidden below the insurance papers. Astoundingly loud music plays every time the doors to the club open and people come out stumbling, kissing sloppily and dragging each other away.
He just wants to see you and put this horrible feeling inside him to rest.
“No fucking way.”
He jolts at the sound of your voice and throws away the cigarette, putting it out with his shoe before he turns to see you standing outside the club. You approach timidly until you can be sure it’s him and when you step closer to the streetlight, he can really see you. The clothes you could never wear to work, the shoes you apparently spend all your money on. You’re beautiful.
He can’t possibly move until you’re sat beside him. For the first time in what seems like forever, now that he’s grown so used to it, you keep a very respectable distance between your bodies.
“You didn’t have to throw it away; I already saw you and,” you pick up the abandoned carton from the sidewalk and almost laugh at how immaculate it looks just having been opened, “I have so many questions. Since when do you smoke?”
His voice is quiet, unamused.
“Almost never.”
You look at him curiously and he thinks you would make a great interrogator simply by the way you make everyone around you spill their souls out if it will satisfy you.
“Sometimes when I’m very stressed.”
You hum, “I never would have guessed that.”
He laughs to himself and looks at his hands.
“Yeah, I’ve been doing a lot of things that are not typical of me lately.”
You help yourself to a cigarette and he cups his hand over yours when the breeze makes it too hard to light up.
“Is that because of me? Am I a bad influence?”
“No. It’s me, I’m the common denominator.”
You hum again and smile at him teasingly in an attempt to lighten the mood, “Breakthrough.”
“So, this is what therapy is like?”
He wants to thank you, for always trying to make things as easy as possible for him. You open the door and difficult as it may seem, all he really has to do is walk through it.
“No, of course not. I wouldn’t smoke in session.”
“Oh good.”
You’re sitting closer again and Aaron doesn’t know how. He doesn’t think either of you moved. He keeps his eyes on the road in front of him, glances at you only from the corner of his eye. Your perfume mingles with the smoke of the cigarette and it’s all a haze to him.
“Why are you not inside?”
“I needed a breath; it was very loud and packed in there… and I finally saw your calls.”
He hums, unable to find anything else to say.
“Why are you here?
“I don’t know.”
He knows that is not a good enough of an answer.
“I always have this terrible feeling that something is going to happen to you.”
Your shoulder touches his and he can admire the smoothness of it, focus on each mark there to avoid the dreaded eye contact.
“Do you think that fear is reasonable, or is it rooted in something else?’
His eyes shut tightly, “Don’t do that, please. Don’t talk to me like I’m a subject.”
“You use your ‘agent tone’ all the time outside of work.”
His voice deepens, “I am aware.”
Heavy breathing.
“I’m sorry I did all that and then backed out at the last minute.”
“It’s alright. I think I knew you would.”
“See, that’s even worse.”
You look at his suit, the wrinkles that have formed in the shirt underneath from the hours of wear.
“Did you come here straight from the office?”
A sigh, “Yeah.”
You nod your head in understanding and move to put out what’s left of the cigarette.
“I’m alright. I’ve got the others too; they’ll take me home. You can relax now.”
“I don’t think I ever can.”
You don’t know what to say really. If what he needs is time, you can give it, but he seems undecided as well when he picks up your hand.
“I think I’m scared of what will happen once the line is crossed.”
A confession.
That, you did not expect.
“Aside from the complications at work, I just,” his hand rubs gently on the spot your watch has left its mark, “I have proved time and time again that I can’t handle any relationship beyond professionalism and once we stop being just colleagues, I will lose you completely from my life.”
“Do you think that line has not been crossed already?”
He laughs quietly.
You can both feel the bouncer looking at you and Aaron is suddenly aware of how vulnerable he is right now.
“I guess it has.”
You’re both quiet for a little while.
“I have to go back inside now, or they’ll start getting worried.”
He looks like he’s about to say something, but no words leave his mouth.
“Don’t worry, I won’t tell them you were here.”
That hurt. You know it, but what else was there to say?
“Maybe tomorrow you’ll know.”
You give his hand a reassuring squeeze before you leave and he’s left staring while you go back inside.
-.-.-
A little past two, the girls drop you off in a shared cub before going their separate ways and you rush to your apartment building, only to find Aaron waiting there.
“Well, you certainly have a thing for sitting on curbs.”
He looks tired, so tired, and alone in the empty street. It’s very hard to maintain your position when he always looks this beaten down in his most tender moments. You wish to care for him, love him back into happiness but that wouldn’t be fair.
Still, you can’t help but go to him and he is relieved that you sit closer this time.
“Have you been waiting here this whole time?”
“It hasn’t been that long.”
You softly take his right hand to look at his watch. His body relaxes at the touch.
“Huh.”
“Did you have a good time?”
“Yeah, but I’m a little more drunk than the last time you saw me.”
Your skin glows under the soft moonlight and he notices.
It is technically tomorrow now.
“How drunk?”
His face moves closer and you can’t help but shiver at the sudden change. His breath is warm on your face. The words come out in a whisper.
“Not that much.”
That’s all it takes.
His lips press against yours once… then twice and then… he doesn’t stop.
You always thought he’d be one to kiss carefully and with absolute purpose, just like he does everything else, but he kisses like a man on fire. He seeks to quench something deep inside of him and you provide happily. The remnants of your lip gloss tingle on his mouth, as if kissing you alone is not enough of an awakening.
It’s becoming increasingly hard to keep up with breathing when he envelops you so, and cages you in the pleasant whirl of his scent. When you break away for breath, he’s quick to capture you once more. His hands come to your face to keep you there until he’s had enough, but how he can he ever have enough of you?
He only lets you go because he has to. You’re both practically panting and he can’t decide what to do. He wants to kiss you, look at you, touch you, but it cannot all be done at once. When your own hand comes to his face just below his jawline, he melts under the touch. His eyes are sunken, his body is begging for rest, but it would not come without you.
“Do you want to stay with me tonight?”
His voice is low and breathy when he nods.
“Yeah…”
-.-.-
You walk upstairs, hand in hand, and Aaron can see your own exhaustion is taking over. Something started with that first touch. Your bodies wish only to find comfort near each other.
His breath is warm on your neck while you open the door, his hands softly placed on your waist with the excuse of keeping you steady. When you move to take off your shoes, he is behind you again, as if tied to you with invisible thread, and holds you gently by the elbow when he sees you struggling.
You’re suddenly very aware he is in your house again. Touching you.
“Can I get you anything?”
He shakes his head no, but you’re too focused on the way his hand moves languidly up your arm, leaving goosebumps in its wake, before tucking your hair behind your ear.
“Do you need me to get you anything?”
He is so caring. So soft below the austere guise.
“I just need to take a shower,” you almost stumble backward and he thinks it’s the alcohol, but it might just be the feeling of his hands on your face, “I must have fifty different people’s sweat on me right now.”
“That’s okay. I’ll wait.”
His voice is soft – tired.
You turn on the lights for him in the living room and he gives a half-smile when you check on him again.
“I won’t be long.”
Once left alone, he gets to look around your house. He sees your carefully assorted nick-knacks and smiles at the framed pictures all over your bookshelves. He can’t help but notice you’ve chosen one, if not the only, photo of the team that he’s also part of.
He is important to you too.
He can see you in every corner of the room, in the books you buy and the realistic-looking-but-admittedly-fake plants sprinkled here and there for a lack of time to take care of any real ones. He can even see you in the soft material of the couch when he sits and lets his cheek touch the fabric. He has been here before in a dream, with your head in his lap.
The room is awfully quiet save for the gentle ticking of the clock on the wall and the sound of running water in the background. For a man that’s usually so good at sitting alone with his thoughts, he suddenly can’t stand it.
He knocks gently on the bathroom door and opens it slowly, only to be hit with the dizzying cloud of warm steam. Your head peeks behind the shower curtain and he can tell you got tired of standing and sat in the tub instead.
“Is it okay if I sit in here with you?”
You thought he’d sit on the toilet seat, but he crawls to the edge of the tub and sits on the bathmat with his back to you.
How close is close enough?
Now that he’s ventured, he doesn’t think he’ll ever be satisfied.
So, he closes his eyes and rests his head back on the, now warm, porcelain.
“Aaron.”
He doesn’t know if he actually fell asleep, but the water is now turned off and you’re looking at him. He realizes now, for the first time, that you’re naked behind him. Your hair and eyelashes are angelically wet, the sheen of water on your flushed skin is divine. He knows that you’d be warm if he touched you now.
“Are you alright?”
“Yes.”
You smile at him -siren- and your hand grabs a handful of his shirt, staining it with water that reaches his body underneath and makes him shiver. You kiss him with plump wet lips and he reaches for you. His hand entangles in your hair until you’re both practically pulling at each other.
A less enamored man would have broken away just to sneak a peek at your bare skin, but he won’t. He is respectful even now, even like this.
“I should have kissed you the other day. I’m sorry I didn’t.”
It’s a whisper when his mouth leaves yours, but you catch it.
You hum, eyes glossy, “Would've, could've, should’ve.”
What matters is now.
He kisses you again – just one more time. You both feel like giddy, lovesick children.
“Can you hand me my bathrobe?”
The bathrobe is also impossibly soft to the touch and when you emerge clad in it, he thinks he’d like to hold you. The spell of the warm steam is broken outside, however, and being so close to your naked body suddenly becomes very serious.
You let him sit in your bed, still fully clothed, save for his suit jacket, and he closes his eyes again. The comforter underneath is lovely.
Is everything in this house soft?
Is this what it feels like to be loved by you?
You disappear inside the walk-in closet and reappear, now properly dressed in your pajamas. The bed dips when you sit next to him and he turns to you completely.
“I have a T-shirt you can sleep in, don’t know about pants though.”
Please. Just be here, with him.
He watches you leave, but it’s not long before you return with the aforementioned shirt. You laugh when he finally realizes he’ll have to sleep in his boxers.
“Don’t worry, I won’t take advantage of you.”
He throws a teasing look, but can’t possibly come up with a clever answer right now.
“I’ll go dry my hair and you can get dressed, alright?”
You are so gentle with your guidance that it makes him feel like a helpless child, but there’s a hidden relief at that. It’s nice; being cared for like this and there is something to be said about parallels, with you going now to do as you had done a week and a half ago in a Florida hotel and him waiting for you – on your bed.
It’s the same, but it’s different.
He hangs his work clothes carefully on the chair in the corner of your room and goes to sit on the bed, but feels too uncomfortable to climb under the covers. He knows you’d find his duality funny; how he goes from hungrily kissing you to being too embarrassed to join you in bed, even if it’s only for sleep.
You notice his stiffness when you come back in the room, but don’t say anything. It’s not exactly easy for you either, you’re just better at hiding it than he is. You choose to lead by example instead and turn off the lights before reaching for the one on your nightstand and climbing inside your bedding.
He only speaks to deflect attention from him again, “You have a TV in your room.”
“Jealous?”
He turns to look at you and you’re perched up on the plump pillows, smiling at him. Your hand reaches for his own over the comforter and you gently pull him to you.
He comes, of course.
“I don’t watch a lot of TV.”
“Of course you don’t.”
He joins you with his back on the pillows and his shoulder touching yours, but he’s still too stiff.
“What do you watch?”
“Mostly reruns of sitcoms-,” he laughs at that, “-Seinfeld.”
“Isn’t that show a thousand years old?
“You would know.”
He laughs again and you can almost make out a wounded pout on his face, but a kiss is enough of a cure. His shoulders relax and he gives in to the warmth and softness; be it the bed or you next to him. You can tell he’s barely managing to stay awake, but he still can’t let go completely. His head slumps backward again.
“Can we turn it on?”
You find the courage to caress his hair, admiring the softness of it and the discreet sprinkle of grey that you can only see up close.
“If you want.”
The quiet humming of the television and your breath in his ear, putting his mind to ease, are enough for him to finally sleep and you’re not long behind. His head is turned to the side where you are, hand tightly holding yours.
Later in the night, when you stir in your sleep, he pulls you further into him – wraps his arm around you completely and doesn’t let go.

DISPATCH | Official Reveal Trailer - Extended Cut (HD)
Dispatch will launch for unspecified console(s) and PC via Steam in 2025.
Overview
About
From the writers and directors of Tales from the Borderlands and The Wolf Among Us, Dispatch is a superhero workplace comedy set in modern day Los Angeles.
You play as Robert Robertson, AKA Mecha Man, whose mech-suit is destroyed in a battle against his nemesis, forcing him to take a job at a superhero dispatch center: not as a hero, but a dispatcher. In charge of rehabilitating a group of ex-supervillains, you must manage your roster while navigating office relationships and rebuilding your suit for a shot at revenge.
Key Features
Shape Your Story – In Dispatch, every decision you make influences the unfolding narrative. From banter in the breakroom to life-or-death situations in the field, your choices affect your relationships with the heroes, their allegiances, and the path your own story takes.
Deploy Your Heroes – Use the strategy map to review ongoing emergencies and deploy the right (or wrong) heroes to deal with them. Balance the risks and rewards as you make tactical decisions, knowing that each choice can have lasting consequences for your team and the city.
Manage Your Roster – Managing heroes sometimes goes beyond their powers. Each hero comes with quirks, flaws, and baggage you’ll need to navigate to keep the team together. Upgrade their skills and unlock abilities to boost their effectiveness in the field.
Blending narrative, strategy, and humor, Dispatch explores what it means to be a hero, whether you’re wearing a cape or behind a desk.

Since there's an anon going round asking people for their top 10 episodes by year, I thought I'd do mine, in chronological order.
2015
- 12th February: the scene between Robert and chaddy is one of my favourite scenes ever. The early show of honesty vulnerability amongst the bravado... yum.
- 8th April: so cute. Robert worried about Aaron being out all night, putting his lil jacket over Aaron like a blanket, care about him I don't just! Stupid interfering bitch. Pebble rock. It's just so good.
- 22nd June: this may be violating the rules because it has nothing to do with robron but I stan the dinner party from hell with coira and chrobert.
- 8th July: for obvious reasons. But also it was my first ever live episode so it holds a massive place in my heart.
- 20th July: the heart eyes, the suits, the sneaking around home farm. Absolute gold.
- 23rd July: just vote for all of July at this rate, I hear you. I would love to. But of course I had to do the insanity of the lodge. The affair reveal is fab but this is included for "falling in love with you ruined everything" and "you said you loved me too remember" and Robert crying on the floor like a lost child.
- 24th September: it's hard to pick between the episodes this week because they're firing on absolutely every cylinder. But from a robron perspective, it has to be this one, as a noted scrapyard scene apologist. Ryan is at his very best here.
- 22nd October: we have the who shot robert flashbacks, "I can't stop loving someone like him", Aaron going to whack him with a wrench, the hurt Robert feels when he finds out Aaron's been arrested and the iconic list of suspects he reels off.
- 2nd December: I'm your man! You're never gonna be that again! My fave robron scene of all time tbh.
- 18th December: I tried to resist but this couple of months is where I live. The flirting in this one! Us living under the same roof wouldn't that be cosy! Robert was so determined to get Aaron back he was willing to inherit a pub. Icon.
2016
- 21st January: my favourite scene of all time may be I'm your man, but this has my favourite line of all time. Being in fandom then was such a good time despite how difficult the storyline was. I just remember reading an article about the episode and it said something along the lines of Robert maybe having a revelation of his own, but I don't think anyone expected an ily??? I had to grip my chair to keep from falling off it. Iconic. The whole episode was so amazingly acted and the centrepiece of one of the best weeks emmerdale ever had.
25th February: the spoiler drop for this one was iconic. We met beloved Liv for the first time, Robert got kneed, we got the entirely ridiculous "of course I still want this" as if Aaron had ever done anything but resist Robert's attempts to get back together, an icon! And of course the first fairly pathetic attempt at a near kiss, love it though. A note for Robert's hair as well.
2nd March: Robert in a maroon suit! The absolutely insane flirting. You lost your touch?!? AS IF?!? Chrissie's "it's good to know who you are". Their faces when Vic says its a date??? Smitten kitten??!?!?!?! I live here x
15th April: we finally get justice for Aaron. We also get the insane Adam realising they're together from one touch, and the absolutely stunning scene outside the woolpack. Probably controversial, but better than the reunion itself for me.
14th July: Yes, Charity catching them in the shower is gold as is Robert's insane lust. The real star of the show is the two boyfriend drops and the hilarious "not that you're not lovely" "or your daughter in law" and "the man went to prison for being gay, guess what in other news he's still gay". I loved Lawrence and Ronnie's relationship so that was also a highlight.
16th August: the handbag line is great but this isn't robron's episode, this is robert and andy's episode. Bernice also deserves a mention. Funny, heartbreaking, poignant. The perfect send off, really.
17th October: I don't even need to explain this one.
24th October: another one I tried to resist but it's just perfect oh my god it's so cute.
16th December: the pub quiz!!!!!
25th December: their first Christmas together ❤️ I still have Aaron's jumper.
2017 (this is so difficult bc I've never really rewatched it outside of the fandom rewatches)
- 5th January: I don't like this as much as I should, but there's no denying the suits and the Vegas stuff is brilliant. And I love the rolo joke.
- 23rd January: the pub scene is so damn sweet. Robert sitting in the dark worrying about Aaron. Got too much keeping me here these days! You're not on your own you're with me remember! I wouldn't wanna be anywhere else! The casual touches. Just lovely.
- 20th February: DIRTY LITTLE GREASE MONKEY okay the whole thing is perfect but that one line is enough. And also big gay wedding in the morning... queen.
- 21st February: I wouldn't normally do 2 in a row but. The garage scene, the callbacks, the first dance that wasn't a first dance, wouldn't kick blondie out of bed for leaving crumbs.
- 23rd February: 3 in a row is bad I know but it has my favourite moment of theirs (which is different to line and scene tyvm). The fucking forehead heart kiss hug thing it's perfect and nobody will ever beat that level of romance ever. The teasing about Robert's shower gel is also adorable.
- 10th April: partly heinous but then most of 2017 is. It still gave us the glorious picnic and clothes swap so. I've had better, well I haven't! Is that something else you don't do outdoors?! I'm Aaron Dingle I don't eat salmon and I don't have sex outdoors!
- 25th May: my beautiful husband who I love!!! People don't stay with me!! People don't forgive me!!! I love you, still, yeah, I love you more!! Such a tough watch but also all time epic romance moments.
- 19th June: I love them teaming up to fuck over Ross, and the weed plot was iconic. A rare moment of levity in that time.
- 29th November: our robbo back in the mill where he belongs! The chemistry... phew!!
- 25th December: again, one I don't love as much as I should, but their insane love for each other and the fashion in this episode makes it worth it. Robert becoming a real boy is so important to me.
*shudders*
2018
- 11th January: nothing to do with robron, again, but I know in my heart as a chrobert stan I must include their final parting. Also, Larry's death is hilarious.
- 14th February: what did we do for Valentine's last year? Oh I won't even quote anymore, this is on the list for one scene and one scene only: POCKET DIAL. invented romance.
- 15th February: SO underrated. Obviously we have the adorable "I think he wanted me" but also the stuff about it actually was what it looked like and Aaron being so close to choosing Robert and then.
- 22nd February: reuniting with Aaron is part of the bisexual contract <3 bonus points for the delivery of "oh my god we forgot the baby" and the vanity scenes.
- 5th April: the kidnap plot was nonsense but I had to include some of the jobert feud and Robert's worry over Aaron was gorgeous.
- 26th July: the proposal is wonderful but honestly this was even better. Both of them coming up with their proposals, the reactions from Chas and Liv, the fucking Robron and Seb scene oh my god it's too cute.
- 30th July: fiiine I'll include the proposal too. You made it okay to be me! Jinx! Except it's not some random layby! Chas and Liv plotting. The plans to adopt Seb. It's not Lachlan is it! Yeah, just a wonderful episode. Most couples would dream of such a good proposal and we got two separate iconic proposals. Here's hoping the third will be as good!
- 28th September: Robert calling them bachelors lmaooooo. The vadam sideplot was good and of course the stag do and karaoke was EVERYTHING.
- 5th October: obviously. The watch!! Their suits!! The Love We Stole!!! Their heart eyes!!! The speeches!!! Wedding 1.0 is better, but honestly, they really ate this one, too.
- 20th November: Robert hanging out with children and getting his pretty shirts ruined. I stan. This being the thing that makes him realise he wants more kids, very cute. I'm not a parent robron fan really but I was almost cheering here. Shout out to it being the beginning of Robert and Nicola being awful to Graham (affectionate).
2019
- 22nd January: my favourite version of this episode is the secret one that only existed in spoilers but what we did get was great too! Shenanigans with Seb and Spamela and that wonderful chat with Aaron and Moira about their partners being nightmares. All capped off with the cutest lil nap.
- 26th March: the weirdest, most fun wlw mlm solidarity double date dinner. I live for Robert and Charity being the same person being called out.
- 11th April: this gave us so much! Smiling at each other talking about having a family together, Liv standing up to Maya, the absolutely GORGEOUS conversation between Robert and Liv about not having to change for anyone (that convo hit 20 year old me Hard), the ridiculous face Aaron pulls when Robert suggests hot chocolate, if the next one gets your eyes everyone's in trouble, Liv blackmailing Maya so robron can afford a kid, and that damn snuggle on the couch.
- 22nd April: Robert finally gets a birthday!!!
- 7th May: the big night out flashback, which was super well done on the whole. Robron were flirting so badly, I'm married and rusty!! If I met you in a bar, I still would!! The Victoria story was heartbreaking and really well acted. The directing and lighting was so atmospheric as well.
- 25th July: the football team storyline was useless nonsense in the best way. This particular instance featured Robert and Victoria being adorable and goofy and I live forever on the crumbs of a friendship group it gave us.
- 6th August: Robert shamelessly lures his husband away from important accounts work with sex and surrogacy (not clickbait!). Robert and Aaron looking peak in grey and black, and getting lightly slut shamed by Diane. Beautiful stuff. Victoria gets all angsty as is her right and it ends in a lovely conversation where Robert gets really vulnerable about going to prison and giving Aaron something to look forward to.
- 10th October: mention of a classy anniversary trip! The clock ticking so loudly in their ears that they're doing everything possible before their time runs out. Most importantly, the family unit of Liv, Aaron, Robert, Victoria and Seb together properly for the last time. Robert really came so close to having it all.
- 17th October: what is it with the boys and that date in the woods? Though the runaway era was frustrating at times, there's no doubt that their chemistry was on full front here, and their reckless devotion was never more present. From their desperate last kiss to them imagining their dream life in France, it was magical. The perfect way to end their time pre-prison.
- 1st November: the best goodbye I could ever have hoped for, honestly. The details, from the pictures in Robert's prison cell to TWO plays of The Love We Stole. The banter about Aaron knowing the prison cook, the worry, the wedding rings, the moment Robert decides not to tell Aaron and to let him go. You're the best thing that ever happened to me, promise me you'll never forget. All the little touches and the hug that still has me in tears. Aaron being in the background as Robert leaves. The montage. It's so respectful and so important to their legacy. For 6 long years, I was ecstatic that this was the end. They did it right.
#robron#do not ask me how many hours this took. but it was so fun!!!#a couple of years there were episodes it broke my heart to leave out.

[the end of a relationship is supposed to be the hardest part, but the last night aaron sees robert, it’s the first promise of a happy ending he gets from the other man. a year, to sort their problems, and they’ll meet back in paris, and give their love the chance it deserves, after the whirlwind of a year they'd spent together, in paris, falling more in love than either of them had been before. what could possibly go wrong in a year? 34k]

[robert hires calum after nicola and jimmy go off on their holidays and leave him in the lurch, aaron instantly doesn't like him and sees ulterior motives behind his flash smile and interesting stories. soon issues arise when things become more sinister and robert continues to turn a blind eye as calum drives a further wedge between the 'happy couple' becoming even more determined to have robert all for himself. 166k]
asking the moon to stay by bugmadoo / @noramachwitz
[all his life prince robert had known that one day he would have to follow in his father's footsteps and become king of emmerdale. what he never expected was that he would have a secret love affair with the court's mechanic aaron dingle. 32k]

[robert is an ambitious businessman, an insomniac… and lonely. aaron is a desperate, broken young man… who is also a prostitute. when they crash into each other - literally - one night, their lives are sent spiralling. but they both have baggage, and the past has a funny way of showing up at the worst possible moments. will they manage to cling to each other, or be torn apart for good? 311.2k]
the hardest science by jentacular
[robert sugden has had aaron livesy erased from his memory. please never mention their relationship to him again. thank you. 230k]

' okay , i'm not gonna stand here and convince you that i genuinely was planning on breaking up with her this time 'cause like you said , those are just words . and words mean nothing without action . ' he admits truthfully , he's frustrated with how things became public especially due to the fact he actually would have been ending his relationship that night . it's why he called shay over to the house but ruby surprised him . ' people don't hate you , baby . they still love you ––– the fans on twitter are still supporting you . it's tmz pretending to have a moral compass that are judging us , we just gotta ignore them . but i get it , this isn't what we wanted to happen so it's up to you what happens between us now . if you never wanna see me again , i'll accept it . '
" yeah , yeah , yeah ─── you're sorry , you were totally going to break up with her . . . these are just words to you ! like they don't mean any - fucking - thing . how about too little too late ? i'm the most hated girl on social media now , people want me kicked off my show . i literally can't stand you right now . "
#sclfcare#the way aaron's def a recurring / special guest star on the show cnbvmnb#and def has more screen time w ruby than anyone#the fans probs picked up on them before ncxvbmb#‹ colloquy / a . roberts. ›
