I need to talk about Miss Susato.
Spoiler of TGAA2 last case below. (The Plot Twist™)
Susato Mikotoba, around 4 years old. Living alone with her grandmother. As she start to have a grasp of the world around her, she came to realize other children her ages were surrounded by people they called 'parents'. 'Mother', 'Father', forming a 'family'.
Naturally, she start wondering where those 'parents' came from, and why she didn't has any. Maybe they only come under certain conditions ? Or when you get older ? Where do people find those 'parents' ? How could she get parents, too ?
So, full of innocence, she asked her grandmother about it.
And I don't know her grandmother. I don't know if she was more of a grumpy old lady or a sweet grandma, if she told Susato the truth directly and harshly, or trying to be tactful about it.
But I know that no matter how you explain that truth to a child, they will only ever reach one conclusion:
My mother died because of me. And my father was so sad he left.
It's my fault. It's because I'm born.
He must hate me. That's why he left me here.
Maybe I shouldn't have been born at all.
So my mother would still be alive, and my father would still be happy.
Though of course, a child isn't entirely aware of those thoughts, and even less able to articulate those.
But similar thoughts definitely shaped our dear lady, as she's way too often feels like a burden to another. And that cause me great pain to hear her say such things.
(Or, if you allow me to drop the act for a few seconds: violently slam desk GIRL. DON'T SAY THAT. YOU'RE NOT A BURDEN. YOU'RE A PRECIOUS LITTLE BEAN AND EVERYONE LOVES YOU AND YOU SAVED THE DAY SO MANY TIME--- YOU'RE NOT A BURDEN. ahem.)
I think about this fairly often- way too often, in fact.
Sure, my dear Mikotoba is a great father overall. He's always kind to his daughter and does his best for her all the time. Indeed, he was in a great pain back then, and didn't had the strength to take care of a such fragile little being that is a baby.
He can't truly be blamed for it. But his absence, and most importantly the reason behind it, had an strong impact on his daughter; One that might never entirely disappear.
I hope, at least, that learning her father's absence is also what allowed the legendary pair known as The Great Detective Herlock Sholmes and his Great Partner 'Dr. Watson' to exist bring her some peace, in a way.
#dgs2 spoilers#tgaa2 spoilers#susato mikotoba#mikotoba susato#i finally found the energy to make a post. what a miracle#truly its been in my mind for months now#signed: the one and only great detective of the foggy town Herlock Sholmes#and not Herr Lock Sholmes

i greatly enjoy the "lying monster who plays with human lives like barbies" flavor of L characterization myself but i have been spinning around all his more compassionate moments in my head recently (visibly repressing ukita and naomi; ordering all cars off the highway they're chasing higuchi on; asking the other task force members to not look at the yagami household surveillance footage for soichiro's sake; etc) in conjunction with the way he genuinely would rather sacrifice civilians to catch kira than save them with even the mildest possibility kira would get away; and i am thinking about how little we really get into his head and i do wonder how he feels about his job, because he never voices regret out loud but we get to see him think twelve fbi agents dead… twelve precious lives… and so maybe he does feel guilt for who he is, what he does, but ultimately does it matter? they're still dead. he still tries to murder a prisoner to test the thirteen-day rule. corpses don't care about motive. you're just a childish killer playing at divine retribution. what im trying to say is that l lawliet could be representation for a rarely depicted demographic: high empathy people who suck
#do youuu understandddd im not sure this is an intended theme but it speaks to me#because it doesnt MATTER! in the end. whether youre killing this person for pleasure or justice or for solving your case#you still killed a guy#l lawliet#also to be clear the tone of this is Slash Affectionate i relate to this strongly#minus the murder#from the drafts#<- too tired to make this a good post. take it#edited to add. he is LITERALLY herr lock sholmes#gertrude magarchives also#theres L everywhere for those with the eyes to see

So a friend sent me the pilot for “The Art of Murder” the other day, and I gotta say, Giorgio is literally just Herlock Sholmes from the Great Ace Attorney.
Considering he literally references “Ledgeworth”, it’s almost certainly an intentional reference.

GOD MAN. THE ADVENTRE OF THE SPECKLED BAND IS GREAT EVEN THOUGH I CRIED WAY TO MANY TIMES.:)))
SO HERES MY DISORGANIZED THOUGHTS ABOUT IT BECAUSE I LOVE YAPPING
btw the name for that turnabout it really interesting, because it was the name for one of those Sherlock Holmes books if I remember correctly.
My favorite part is the seductions :) like ryunosuke was in his element when he was correcting herr lock sholmes. That guy is so eccentric, like he's annoying but in a good way? Lmao.
Susato is cool, I like her susato takedown, though it's pretty ironic how she apologized for hurting Ryu only to use the susato squash on him. Shes very different from other assistants in the games, and probably in the best way possible.
I feel for inspector hosonaga, man had one job and he royaly fucked it up, and I can understand that kind of guilt,
Its really cool ryunosuke took the katana with him, and is studying to become a lawyer to try and fulfil kazumas dream, he's real determined, and that's so kewl :\ also, his intermonolouge in this case is so freaking heartbreaking.
Bif stroganov has an amazing name pun, that is funny as hell 😭 also he's low-key one of my favorite one off characters, because I imagined him having the voice of hat guy from "there is no game" (if you haven't played that game then do it now, it's on coolmath.com)
I don't at all know how to feel about Nina (forgot her full name, Ryu is right, russian names ARE hard to remember)and the whole murder to begin with, to think such a tragedy could occur because of a misunderstanding is so freaking heart-aching. Never forget that kazumas death could've been prevented had he just not watched one of her shows. The butterfly effect is so real and apparent across all ace attorney games.
I also loved the escapades that goes along with this episode, imagine being such a great detective, brilliant minded, and stuff like but you still need to steal.

I don't know why it didn't occur to me to ask before but is there still a gag with Japanese characters mispronouncing Sholmes's name in the Japanese version of the game? In English, the gag is "Herlock sounds like Herr Lock, so the Japanese characters assume he's German" but that joke wouldn't work in the Japanese version, where Sholmes's name is Sherlock Holmes, so calling him Herr Lock doesn't work.
I genuinely don't know why it never occurred to me to ask before now

Also they couldn’t make that Herr Lock Sholmes joke otherwise now could they
I know the real reason they called him that was bc Sherlock Holmes was still partially under copyright at the time but I truly do not think Herlock Sholmes would be half as charming if his name was not Herlock Sholmes. It’s just so foundational to my enjoyment of this guy

Hi i have some important propaganda for one "herr lock sholmes"? (herlock sholmes of tgaa)

[Image description: a pencil comic of Herlock sholmes and ryunosuke naruhodo from the great ace attorney. herlock says, "I've been nominated for world's greatest detective", confidently. ryunosuke replies, looking very irritated, "why." /End ID.]

I really wanna go the funny route here and say herlock sholmes is klavier ancestor just cause everyone keeps calling him Herr lock
Still don't think sherlock is straight though, he probably just materialized a baby outta thin air
Just started playing The great ace attorney
Why the fuck does it literally starts with Kazuma and ryunosuke having a date at a high class restaurant

Clouded Kokoro thoughts (spoilers)-
This whole case was just so persistently sweet and human. I mean, it was definitely uncomfortably filled with racism (by intentional, purposeful design), but still. I just want every character to be better off and have a good life. There’s newlyweds constable Roly Beate and Pat Beate, all scraggly and covered in patches. He works long hours and just wanted to take her out for their anniversary, and she loves the single rose pitifully wrapped in old newspaper that he presents her, and doesn’t complain about their sparse life.
Then there’s old married couple John and Joan Garrideb, and they’re just full of secrets… secrets that are gradually revealed throughout the case. But the last secret came when John took the stand. Despite having a fight where Joan slapped him and threw stuff and him and literally caught the apartment on fire, he voluntarily got on the stand with her… no small feat as he has a bad knee and is chair-bound! His apartment is two flights of stairs up, and he wasn’t even summoned, but he took the stand anyway so his wife wouldn’t have to be alone.
And standing there, for the first time, I could see him from the back, revealing the back of his robe stained and worn through at the seat, and it broke my heart! And that’s what he does through and through, doing his best to keep up appearances when his life is going to pieces. He wears a ruffled jabot and military medal over his tattered and stained bathrobe. He pretends to have a maid whom he can’t afford. The house is falling down around his ears. And his undergarments showing through his robe is just tragic. I- I just want him to be happy in his old age.
I’m falling a little in love with goofy old Herr Lock??? There’s some weird chemistry in their Great Deduction dance. And he called me partner. And he invited Susato and me to live with him! And oddly, every time I try to write him off as a ridiculous fool, he turns around and proves me wrong. Like when he revealed he hadn’t actually accused Natsume-san, and had only deduced his location. Or when he wrecked Natsume-san after the trial.

Will I end up shipping Herlock Sholmes x Ryuu? Maybe?? Idk??? Not fully over Kazuma yet but I’m feeling something for Sholmes here!
Ok, Ryuunosuke is pretty cute when he’s confident and making deductions. Way cuter than when he’s sweating and twitching in court lol!
One complaint though… why are the cases so easy? They are long but each step is fairly obvious. Especially “pursue” is super obvious… too obvious in my opinion. The visual thought bubble, the audio exclamation, and the ! sign on the circular slider.

But beyond that, what evidence to present also feels too obvious. Too often, we get evidence and then it’s used in the very next step. I remember in the original trilogy, I had to think (and honestly, guess) a lot of the time, and somehow that made it more satisfying.
Bruce really came through for me. I thought he was a sleaze ball last time, but I’ve misjudged. I’m sorry I tried to pin Milverton on him.
Prosecutor van Zieks came through for me too. I loled when he told Joan he “couldn’t recall”, hah! I’m not surprised - this is case 4 out of 5, and prosecutors tend to turn into my allies around then. Will I end up shipping Ryuu x Reaper? Shipping with the prosecutor tends to be a thing that happens in Ace Attorney games, so maybe?

I was all set to love Kazuma forever, but I have to say, Barok van Zieks is incredibly beautiful. I mean, lots of characters are cute or cool or even attractive, but not many are beautiful. Miles Edgeworth is beautiful. Barok van Zieks can give Miles Edgeworth a run for the title.
