i think Ren was exceptionally fond of butterflies as a kid. he’d run around and try and catch them life fireflies. he’d tear through books about them and whenever a kid at school found one, he’d be able to rattle off everything about them.

after meeting Lavenza, he grew an even deeper affection for them. they became a representation of not only his own transformation, but the transformation of his friend, of society as a whole.

once he got his own home in the country, he planted plenty of plants to bring them by, giving them a place to stop and rest on their journey. and every year, without fail, he’d see a bright blue butterfly flutter through his yard and land right in his eyeline. and every year, Ren would smile and hold his hand out. and every year, the butterfly would fly onto his finger. and every year, Ren heart would warm, reminding him that spark of rebellion will always be there, embedded into his soul.

one thing i think is really neat about persona fanfics is that like. everyone characterizes the mcs slightly differently. tbf everyone is gonna characterize every character differently but it's most noticeable with the mcs. and yet they're all accurate, i don't think i've ever seen an interpretation of any of the mcs that mischaracterizes them, even if it's not how i'd personally write them. i just think it's neat. :3
