More hexenzirkel concepts - I’m very set on rhinedottir for now. I made this before I played paralogism so that’s why Barbeloth is more a navy and red colour palette rather than navy and teal. Im okay with the Alice one, but I want to make her corset look more interesting. Also I really try my best to show the character’s personality in the drawing, so I hope that came through well!

One thing's really been standing out to me about the plot of Paralogism. It might solidify deception as something ingrained into Mondstadt on every level.

I've already talked about some obvious things individually:

Venti's the most suspicious character in the game. The list of subjects he's withholding important information about (some likely, some definitely), even from Traveller, includes his strength, his gnosis's location, Istaroth and time powers, Celestia, the abyss and either abyssal corruption or ties to it, Khaenri'ah, the fundamental nature of Teyvat...

Mondstadt is a disarmingly laid back and vulnerable place on the surface... with vicious monsters watching over from afar, a capital crawling with undercover agents and vigilantes, and a history of violently overthrowing leaders they don't like. Even gods.

The big 'gateway to Celestia' Barbatos statue is clearly hiding something.

It's associated with the moon- it's in the name- and that's associated with deception in tarot; let me know if any other belief systems have that as well.

That aside, the more I think about it the more examples I can find:

The aforementioned plot of Paralogism.

Forgery, misleading the Lawrences' soldiers into turning against them, was key to the success of Vennessa's revolution.

The church, peaceful and kind on the surface, employs some of Mondstadt's shadiest protectors.

Many Mondstadt characters are not as they seem; they have secrets and layers of nuance below a flat or misleading surface-level persona, or straight up LARP constantly or live double lives. Venti's king of this but at minimum this includes Diluc, Kaeya, Rosaria, Lisa, Albedo, Fischl, Stanley, Eula to some extent, that guy living in the wilderness to avoid his girlfriend...

Statues and most other depictions of Barbatos are potentially inaccurate, even varying within a single storybook in the prologue.

The medium male rig yaoi market ("short king market", not to be confused with "shorting the king market" #liloupar) has been basically unchallenged since Xingyun, with the occasional 4nemo 5wirl Kazuha ship, so it's ripe for #disruption. Were the writers pushing this a little hard in a very small amount of shared screentime? Absolutely. But "I am your mortal mouthpiece and confidant" is a setup with potential.

Escoffier/Traveller — HOLD OR SELL. For a classic tsundere, the protagonist ship is barely pushed at all.

Albedo/Kaeya — HOLD. Surprisingly few dividends considering the defence lawyer angle, and a lot of their shared conversations were dedicated to plot exposition. That said, the fundamentals are good.

Mondstadt

Kaeya/Diluc¹ — BUY OR HOLD. Once again HYV can't make up their mind about whether those two have reconciled, but they've picked the more stilted awkward 'oh, it's you' direction this time (v1.0 throwback!) and our analysts believe that's the most profitable direction for Kaeluc as a ship.

Jean/Barbara¹ — BUY BUY BUY they interacted on screen do you know how rare that is BUY BUY this ship is so starved for content you could 10x your money on the ensuing spike BUY BUY and they referenced her "I'll protect you!" line; adorable

Jean/Lisa — HOLD. Tragically absent.

sadist dommy-mommy Lisa content in general — HOLD OR BUY. Well at least that bluechip stock is paying dividends.

Fischl/clear communication — SELL. The safest short position on the market.

Albedo/Sucrose — BUY. That missing library scene can fit so many smut and alchemy infodump fics. Maybe even nonsmut alchemy infodumps or non alchemy infodump smut.

Albedo/Mona — BUY. Barbeloth: "Well if the fear of me isn't motivating her, maybe she'll do it to one-up a handsome young man."

Venti/Barbara — HOLD OR SELL. The god/priest market doesn't presently have much room for expansion, so this is now fighting for market share with Dahlia.

Neuvillette/Wriothesley — BUY. This blue chip Fontaine stock paid out huge dividends with Whirling Waltz. Bright days lie ahead!

Navia/Escoffier — HOLD. The pieces are there but very much underutilised. (It's always tough retconning in a childhood friend, unless you're giving the friend to a character as repressed as Miko.)

Furina/Escoffier — BUY. There is absolutely some kind of mutual celebrity crush happening here.

Varesa/Iansan — SELL. Quoting our analysts: “The frisson of trainer/client is undercut by them both being boringly well-adjusted. Iansan could be between Varesa's thighs admiring adductor tone and they'd still probably find a way to make it too safe too sane too consensual.”

Varesa/Escoffier — HOLD OR SELL. Varesa cares deeply about what she eats but she's not a gourmet. The main thing keeping this back from a hard sell is Escoffier's habit of [taste testing] the [fruits] of Varesa's [family orchard].

Xiangling/Escoffier — HOLD. Rivals to enemies with benefits could be workable, but the personality clash presents issues. Our analysts advise waiting until further canon interactions land.

The backdrop changes into one of a fiery landscape. Actors dressed in clothing from the various cultures that Teyvat has appeared on stage and began to cower in fear. Some of the actors pretended to fight each other

Darkness loomed over, taking it all

The light from the divine pierced through

A figure dressed in gold and holding a sword is lowered onto the stage and once their feet were planted on the ground they pointed their sword at the figure dressed as you

A series of actors dressed in robes appear behind the actor playing your doppelgänger and they fought. The actors playing you and the monsters fell down with one swing of the actor’s sword

The actor dressed in gold and the ones wearing robes ascend up and out of sight of the audience

With that the vile one calling itself a god was vanquished

With that the music comes to an end and the audience claps. In the back of the audience there are two Adepti watching intently. The blue haired half-Adeptus is clapping at that performance while the other has his arms crossed

“It is amazing on how Lord Ayato was able to beautifully mix both Liyuen and Inazuman opera together. I know just how hard he was studying Liyuen opera, I should thank him next time I see him.” Ganyu said putting her hand over her chest

“I do not see the reason why you dragged me to watch a simple performance, we should be tracking that flithy imposter!”

“That’s not the only reason I brought you out here.” Ganyu stated, causing the Yaksha to turn his head towards the half Qilin adeptus. “Have you seen anything out of the ordinary?”

“I have, the monsters don’t seem as aggressive as of late. They almost look like they’re looking for something.” Xiao explained

“Or perhaps they might be looking for the imposter? They escaped the Fortress of Meropide and haven’t been found yet.” Ganyu theorized

The green haired man looked at the blue haired woman before turning his head back towards the stage

“It might be a possibility…” Xiao muttered

“Then we and the other Adepti should keep our eyes out.”

“I will kill them if I see them.”

“Their Grace needs the imposter detained, meaning they need to be alive when we bring them to their Grace.” Ganyu clasps her hands together. “There is another reason i brought you out here. Have you seen or heard from Rex Lapis?”

“I have, but only for a short period. However he doesn’t look like himself.” Xiao explained as he brought his hand to his chin. “I even asked Hu Tao about him and she said that he goes into work and leaves, it’s almost like he has his mind somewhere.”

“That’s strange, maybe the hunt for the imposter has taken a toll on him?” Ganyu rubbed her chin before standing up. “Let’s talk about this more some place else, somewhere a little less populated.”

“Agreed.”

The two Adepti walk down the stairs and made their way to an area with almost no people, both just so happen to pass by a certain ronin who was also enjoying the show. He takes a sip of his tea before setting it down on the table

“The wind has been acting strange as of late…” Kazuha said under his breath

Wind whirls around him as if trying to to lure him somewhere, the wind has been unusual ever since the Crux docked in Liyue. It was like the wind was calling him to do something, help someone dear to him. That was the reason he opted to stay in Liyue when the Crux began to make the voyage to Port Ormos. Finally done with his tea, he set some mora on the table and walked towards the direction the wind was pulling him

Up above Mondstadt there flies a blimp holding 4 of Teyvat’s most powerful mages, inside they’re having tea except for one. She is trying to get a reading on the stars

“Barbeloth, you’ve been at that scryglass for gods know how long give it a rest.” Alice said

“I’m just trying to get a reading on the stars, but the stars are out of place. All I’m reading is that this is a bad omen.”

“We are reaching the ultimate war between their Grace and that imposter.” Nicole said telepathically

“No one can read stars as good as Barbeloth can.” Rhinedottir compliments

“Maybe there is someone who can…” Barbeloth trailed off thinking of her student that has the habit of referring to her a hag

The blimp floats above a humble apartment, in the home there is an astrologer also trying to get a reading on the stars

“Come one…” Mona said

She moved the scryglass a tiny bit and it floated up above her, showing her the map of the stars. They aren’t in their usual place. Charting everything down the young astrologer examined the star map, desperately trying to decipher what she is seeing

Yet she comes up with nothing

Maybe she needs the opinion of someone else, someone a bit more knowledgeable

Opening the door to the library in the Knights of Favonius Headquarters, Mona was greeted by a familiar brunette drinking her favorite tea with a book

“Miss Lisa, I need your help on something.” Mona said

“Come sit with me.”

The two mages sat and had tea as Mona explained her current predicament. All the while Lisa listened, trying to find a solution to her problem

“Try reading my fortune.” Lisa Said

Mona nodded before summoning her scryglass and attempting to read the mage’s constellation, the two sat there for a while. Mona trying to get a reading and Lisa patiently waiting, her usual smile absent on her face

“I’m sorry, but I can’t get anything. Let me rephrase that, I’m not getting a reading that I can decipher.”

“Is that so?” Lisa stood up from her chair and urged Mona to follow her

The two women stop in front of a door. Lisa takes a key out of her pocket and turns the lock making the door creak open. Lisa walked into the library’s forbidden zone and Mona continued after the purple witch. The librarian walked with purpose as the young astrologer walked cautiously. Lisa stops in front of a bookshelf and reaches for one of the many hardbound books. Blowing the dust off of the cover Lisa opened the book to a page in the middle. She read the passage leaving Mona more anxious as the seconds ticked by. Lisa closed the book

“We have to go to Sumeru.” Lisa stated

“What! Why?”

Lisa turned towards Mona and had a solemn look on her face. “To confirm whether or not this a sigh of the apocalypse.”

i will never get over this actually,, the divination cat in the imaginarium theater resembles mona in way more ways than one and it’s confirmed by wolfie that “madam mage” is barbeloth!!

it even has mona’s purple cape, only one of its’ ears pierced like hers + star motifs, has the star specifically associated with mona’s domain, and it’s the same type of cat that occasionally sits outside of her house :’) mona is often depicted as a cat as well!

Albedo x Mona Paralogism Archon Quest Headcanon

Spoilers for the 5.6 Archon Quest ahead!

So Genshin has (once again) refused to give us interactions between Albedo and Mona, in a quest where even the game acknowledged Mona’s abilities would have been exceeding useful, that it can identify people under Durin’s influence.

Yet they bait us with Barbeloth talking to Albedo about Mona and even telling him to gloat to her! A lot of Albedo’s character growth is implied to have happened off screen, since we have went from Traveller being the only one that knows his secret, to several people in his circle already knowing he’s a homunculus. So I’ve been filling in the gaps with some AlbeMona headcanons:

The Knights had this plan for at least over 6 months. So I don’t think it’s hard to believe that Albedo could have taken another month or two, trying to solo handle the Durin situation by himself before deciding he needs help.

I dare say he tried handling the situation himself at first because he subconsciously didn’t want to reveal his secret to the others. I also like to think that he may have unintentionally neglected his friends during this time and made everyone worried.

I like to think that Albedo killing the clones/burying the victims was a moment of self reflection for him, since the monsters were first replacing people with no close relations, people that no one would miss. I think he would have reflected on the importance of having connections with others in life.

On Mona’s end, she could easily have been one of the first to notice something’s wrong with the affected citizens. Maybe she was the one that brought it up to Albedo, prompting him to check on Subject 2’s burial site.

It’s debatable if Mona would be able to figure out Albedo has something to do with the strange power affecting Mondstadters. But I like to think she could have a hunch, especially if Albedo did tried handling the situation himself.

I imagine that Mona travelled all the way to Dragonspine to confront Albedo, only for her to be attacked by monsters. It would be justified for the monster to see the Astrologer as a threat to their plans.

Albedo would be forced to confront the fact that his avoidance in telling anyone his secret has placed someone close to him in danger, and this prompts them to have a heart to heart. ❤️

Mona might even have encouraged Albedo to come forward to Jean and the rest of the Knights. And I’m sure Jean would have been very grateful that they could plan an early counterattack together.
