3 - fav musical artist / group you started listening to this year?

okay SO i talked about the ruen brothers a bit here, but i discovered them in january and have been absolutely in love with them ever since!!

i talked about their most recent album in that other post, but let me talk about their second album, ULTRAMODERN.

this album makes me feel like i should be walking down the boardwalk during golden hour, a little tipsy and feeling the bass lines just thrum through my soul. it makes me want to dance, not like club dancing but swing and blues while singing at the top of my lungs. it makes me want to feel young and in love and fearless with the feeling. "You’re the flood / The flood I need"

The Storm In You is my absolute fav from this album, with San Diego Nights as also a bop!! and the Takin' It Easy (Ru Demo Version) makes me just feel so perfectly melancholy, i love it so much.

(also bonus is that the band members are like, the nicest people ever?? i met them after a show and they were so kind and happy to chat and i just!! love them a whole lot!!)

11 - something you want to do again next year?

YES OKAY so i went to my first HUGE comicon this year, and absolutely had the time of my life!! it was one of those insane like, 4-day events, i was a volunteer so i basically didnt sleep for the whole long weekend, and it was incredible. i saw hundreds of t-rexes dancing in a lobby. i saw a playboy bunny version of the dune sand worm. i spent an hour of my life taking a 50 multiple choice star wars trivia written exam that was the hardest test i've ever taken. i saw almost the entire cast of my favorite mid-2000s cheesy scifi network show that has been off the air for over a decade. i saw a barbie mouse droid. a barbie mouse droid.

i cant WAIT for next year!!

23 - if you could send a message to yourself back on the first day of the year, what would it be?

AHAHHAHAHA i had the absolute WORST start of this year!!! i had never felt lower, had never felt more like a failure, had never felt more alone and unworthy and full of guilt and shame and all sorts of things. it was...not a great time for me.

so i would tell myself:

hey.

you are not a failure.

your self-worth does not depend on how any one or any institution treats you. you have nothing to be ashamed of, nothing to feel bad about. you have been wronged, have been asked to do the impossible with the opposite of support, and yet you still did so much.

answers and help and love and support are coming, so just hold on, and don't be afraid to lean on those that love you 🥰 you're gonna be okay, kiddo.

...i didn't mean for that to get so deep! 😅 its been just such a rollercoaster of a year, and i am so proud of how far ive come in 365 short days! and for anyone who is going through something that feels like its too big, too much, too hard: you're gonna be okay, kiddo 🥰

please i love you i'm begging you bring back suspension of disbelief bring back trusting the audience like. i cannot handle any more dialogue that sounds like a legal document. "hello, i am here to talk to you about the incident from a few minutes ago, because i feel you might be unwell, and i am invested in your personal wellbeing." "thank you, i am unwell because the incident was hurtful to me due to my childhood, which was bad." I CANT!!!!

do you know how many people are mad that authors use "growled" as a word for "said"? it's just poetics! they do not literally mean "growled," it's just a common replacement for "said with force but in a low tone." it's normal! do you hear me!! help me i love you please let me out of here!!!

I’m not related to Lady Oriana but I wish I was because she’s an incomparable flowering beauty. I’m a knight errant but some of my teeth and grinders are missing. I have long lank limbs. I’m also a defender of damsels, protector of orphans, succourer of the needy, righter of wrongs, undoer of injustice, and I wander a magic countryside called the mountains of Spain where I’m in my first year of knighthood (I’m forty-nine). I’m a gentleman (in case you couldn’t tell) and I wear mostly armor. I love my great-grandfather's forgotten corner of the house and I cobble together all my clothes from there. For example today I was wearing a doublet of fine cloth with matching shoes and velvet breeches and a helmet, morion, visor, breastplate and backpiece. I was riding outside La Mancha. It was early morning so the rays of the sun fell obliquely and the heat did not distress me, which I was very happy about. A lot of giants stared at me. I put up my pasteboard visor at them.
