coriolanus snow x fem!reader
⤷ coriolanus is your mentor, and he fucks you before you’re sent to the games. 18+ mdni.
Coriolanus showed no mercy when fucking you. His pace was fast but thorough, lingering slightly when all of his length was inside for you to take. Your eyes brimmed with tears from pure euphoria. Coriolanus kept one hand around your breasts, playing with your nipple while the other massaged your clit. He whispered dirty things in your ear, loving how your body responded to it. Knowing that it was forbidden for the both of you to meet outside of mentoring hours, nonetheless doing this. The rush of possibly getting caught made him swell inside of you.
“I want you to cry out how much you love my cock.”
When you don’t answer fast enough, he rolls your nipple harder in between his fingers, earning a loud whimper to release from your mouth.
“Aghh, I fucking love it.”
You could hear the smirk in his voice when he said, “Always such a good girl for me.” Coriolanus buried himself in your cunt, as your walls gripped around his dick. You felt like you were about to go insane; nothing mattered anymore but Coriolanus. How did he make it so easy to forget? Your head fell back onto his chest. “Coryo, oh please, don't stop.” you moaned. You were no longer caring if you got caught. Your legs began to tremble, making it challenging to keep your back arched over the desk. But this didn't falter the momentum.
“Take. Every. Last. Drop.” Coriolanus paused with each word, adding emphasis between thrusts. You follow his lead without hesitation. Throwing your ass back to meet him halfway, fucking him back. You could tell that Coriolanus was close, and you were not too far behind. Now with both hands, Coriolanus held onto your waist, jerking his dick in your pussy sloppier and more demanding than before.
You could feel yourself gushing on his cock. You've never gotten this wet. “Shit— I'm going… going to cum” he gasped out. Coriolanus didn't pull out as he came inside you, grinding himself further as your cunt milked him of everything that he had to give. Your body shuddered, unable to slow the torrent of pleasure that overcame you. The two of you rode out the waves of your orgasm until your bodies became sore. Coriolanus drove himself crazy from the thought of possibly losing this, the power to stroke and fondle your body and hear your cries of ecstasy. But he would leave, just like he always did. Coriolanus left you with one last kiss and three words.
“Do not lose.”

"It took five, ten, fifteen years for me to agree."
August 24, 2025 marks the 15th anniversary of the release of Mockingjay and thus the same length of time that it took for Katniss and Peeta to decide to have their first child.
In celebration of both of these, we're hosting a Toast Babies Week from August 24-30. This is a week encouraged to share fanart, fanfiction, meta, moodboards, fanvideos, headcanons, podfic, and whatever else you want to create about the Everlark family.
We have seven (optional) prompts, all taken from/inspired by the meadow lullaby. You absolutely do not need to do all of them or even follow these, it's just for prompting. What's important is that you do what interests you. But for those who are interested, here are the prompts:
August 24: Deep in the meadow August 25: Safe and warm August 26: Guarded from harm August 27: Dreams are sweet August 28: Hidden far away August 29: I love you August 30: The sun will rise
You can also reblog and share any previous creations around the toast babies and Everlark. Use #toast babies week in order for your work to be found and shared.
We will also be creating a collection on ao3 for anyone to share their fanwork to for this event. And remember, ao3 is not just fanfiction, so feel free to upload whatever else you create!
And don't forget to check out our Where Every Child Can Be Safe fundraiser!

“They’re just name dropping people and it seems like fan service”
Do yall know what the point of prequels is? It’s to give context to the story as a whole. Why do you think all of these people specifically went into the games? I thought it was clear to everyone that AT LEAST the 75th games were rigged to high hell. The capital was specifically trying to target the rebels because panem was revolting.
The capital believed that by killing the rebel victors they would kill the revolution as a whole. What sunrise on the reaping gives us is context on how these rebels already know each other. Mags and Beetee have been rebelling for a LONG time. In fact Beetee has been rebelling since before the 50th games. So it makes sense that Finnick, who was mentored by mags, would also be a rebel even though he’s from a career district. Same with Wiress who was probably mentored by Beetee.
In fact, it makes sense that they were the mentors for district 12 too. They were likely already being punished for things they did to rebel. Similar to how Beetee is being punished in sunrise on the reaping.
We’ve known that Plutarch has been a rebel for a long time. To the point that he had an underground rebellion inside the capital. That does not come out of nowhere. We also know that he worked in film and specifically in creating propaganda. So it makes sense that he works for the hunger games making propos and that he would climb his way up to game makers.
Hell, even Effie’s sister makes sense. Prosperina is there to show the difference between how academy students acted towards tributes during the 10th games and how the academy and the view of tributes by capital members has changed. Prosperina asking Effie for help in styling the tributes was Effie’s in into the games. It’s because Effie went on the victory tour with haymitch that she became an escort at all and specifically his.
Effie’s character has always had an important message. That just because you have been sucked into propaganda, that doesn’t necessarily make you a bad person. Because yet again in sunrise on the reaping you see that Effie is a truly empathetic and kind person but oblivious to the true politics that surround her because of the propaganda she has been fed. And in a book about the effects and creation of propaganda Effie was an important character to include.
Suzanne Collin’s could have used a one off random character that we have never met before to show the cluelessness of the capitol. Or she could’ve used a character we already know that would make it hit harder.
I don’t feel like sunrise on the reaping has fan service in this way at all. I think every storyline was necessary in showing the context that was in the background of the original trilogy. These people already knew each other. These people have been trying for revolution for 25 years. They failed every time but kept trying even with the capital punishing them until they finally got their mockingjay.

the funniest thing to me in the whole hayffie/effie trinket hate discourse is the "but THE ACTRESS pushed for the ship to happen" and "woody and elizabeth just acted on their attraction to each other using the movies as an excuse" arguments. that's so weird
elizabeth banks is mostly known for comedy, and the fact that they were casting a comedic actress for the role of effie already shows that the character was planned as a comedic relief amidst a very dark storyline, whether elizabeth herself had any say in it or not.
and now, of course an actor provides their own vision of the character they play. elizabeth did say things in her interviews that rubbed me the wrong way (e.g. her words about hayffie being a classic rom com story or whatever), but she had good points as well, even if you could say that she doesn't "get" effie
however being an actor also means that you follow the script and directions given to you - and all the improvisation you do is either approved of or discarded. so, all of the flirtatious remarks and kissing had probably not only been approved by the creative leads, but also encouraged. and if we remember that suzanne collins took part in the movies' creation and even pushed for effie to be in the mockingjay...
I absolutely agree that the movies are very flawed - the whitewashing, the erasure of katniss' relationships with other women, peeta's forgotten amputation, the list goes on. I belive that they did distort effie's character - they made her more lovable, and while she is a lovely side character, that diminished the point she has in the plot significantly. she hardly faces any hostility from district people, roams the 13 loudly and proudly as if she's not the very face of the cruelty coin's regime despises... lol I love the concept of effie in 13, but really the way it was handled is meh
you could dislike effie trinket and hayffie, sure. yet implying that all of this is some great misinterpretation of the books is strange as the author of the original source material was sitting by and only adding fuel to the fire. indeed, that was fan service if I've ever seen it and Elizabeth's portrayal of effie and the hayffie snippets are a part of the reason why a casual hunger games enjoyer remembers the movies fondly, so it could be said that the actors did just what was required of them.
the books are from katniss' pov, and as the girl couldn't care less about dear effie (not that she should have lol), we have a lot of things up to our own imagination. to my mind, effie could be a great insight into the horrors of manufactured womanhood or the way the totalitarian regime swallows whole even its poster children. to outright write her off as evil or one-dimensional just doesn't sit right with me.
as a side note, I just love it when people go "oh but that's all because of the Elizabeth banks' misunderstanding of the character". somewhere I've seen an actual "do not condone her crush on woody!" lol. while woody harrelson is not bashed as much for the whole thing.. even though he was clearly and very enthusiastically on board with it.. comes off as a bit misogynistic to me... hahah just a piece of mind

i enjoyed reading sotr bc it felt like reading thg for the first time again, i’m a sucker for prequels (asterid and burdock ;-;) and i love seeing the immediate lead-up to the main story and getting another look at what daily life in 12 was like
that being said. i think all of the criticism is 100% fair. all that and the pacing is weird to me. i haven’t seen anyone talk about the pacing can we talk about the pacing
talking to my friend i made the comparison to a new hope/the force awakens in that it’s kind of repeating itself & i agree especially with the annoyance at suzanne collins being lauded as a political commentator. i had fun but it was certainly nothing that hadn’t already been said
ok spiel over. rip maysilee donner u would have loved elle woods
yeah the force awakens is honestly a good comparison. it also gives me stranger things season 3 where like season 1 and 2 were good and season 2 built off the first in an interesting and expansive way and then season 3 was like. BIG MONSTER MALL IDK.
and yeah i mean i’m glad the reading experience was fun for other people. maybe i’ve just spent so many hours of my life reading hunger games fanfiction that the experience of going back to 12 or the capitol or the games just wasn’t enough for me, but I CAN UNDERSTAND that obsessive fanfic dorks online were not *technically* the target audience of this book. (we kinda were for tbosas though argue with the wall…) (THE BOOK.)
and yeah the pacing was bad. like it’s annoying bc the pacing is one of the things i think sc either does EXTREMELY WELL (see: the original thg, the first gregor book) or EXTREMELY POORLY (see: mockingjay, the end of tbosas the book, … whatever sotr was) i think it’s in large part because of her background in theater and screen, and her love of the 3 act structure which i feel like means that when it works it WORKS like a well-oiled machine but when it doesn’t… it feels jammed together and things get rushed or stretched out for the sake of filling the act rather than the time they should or warrant taking. if that makes sense.
i don’t get so annoyed about sc being heralded as a political commentator because i think the social and political criticism and messaging in the original trilogy is still salient and thoughtful, and i don’t think there’s anything wrong with using fiction or stories as a proxy to discuss and clarify our worldviews — it’s not a replacement for actual coherent action, but i think it’s fine to discuss media and politics (all art is political, etc.)
but i DO find it strange that, in context of ALL OF THAT, that everyone seems to be pretending they can’t see the very obvious capitali$$$t motivation for this book’s writing and creation and immediately announced movie deal. it’s like talking about taylor swift doing ttpd, like okay sure she had something to say. she also saw a huge paycheck and it’s the roaring 2020s and nobody, especially not your favorite artist who is sitting on millions of dollars and millions of rabid fans begging them for more, is creating art of art’s sake right now. (ok some people are and im being hyperbolic but. come on guys.)
that’s the part that leaves such a sour taste in my mouth i guess. but i feel like that may be my own artistic cynicism and distrust of franchises and media conglomerates in the 21st century and my general distaste for art that exists to capitalize on an existing fanbase of an existing IP until the original beauty of the art piece self cannibalizes into near-parody rather than creators and artists and (especially famous ones) using their platforms and freedom and wealth to create and uplift fresh, exciting, new stories.
but hey. i’ve lived through two needless rebooted star wars movie franchises. i blogged through the entire heroes of olympus era. i’ve watched every disney live action remake except snow white (IM SORRY RACHEL ZEGLER ily but i had bronchitis), i watched stranger things season 4, i watched the satc reboot, i even confess to at times genuinely enjoying aos star trek. that’s life. that’s being a fan. the bittersweet truth is there would be nothing to cannibalize and parody and ruin if it wasn’t so beloved in the first place. great art will always exist. popular art will also always exist. occasionally those two beautiful galaxies collide and we get magic.

I'm sorry but I just do not subscribe to the opinion that the hunger games movies were in any way bad or that they "butchered" the characters or themes that suzanne so meticulously and lovingly created, because a) she was always a constant presence in the creation of those movies and the directors/producers were very respectful and mindful of the differences between her books and what they could actually implement in a visual medium that would make sense and propel the story forward in a way that made sense in their interviews, and b) even though the movies definitely don't show all of the thematic nuances of the books, and although they do gloss over/erase a lot of the ways that the games affect katniss and peeta (namely his disability/her loss of hearing), and while the movies are quite preoccupied with the visual aesthetic and streamlining the story for a wider audience, they do still contain the heart and soul of the books and, to me, the creators seemed fiercely protective of suzanne's core vision. also fuck you they're just amazingly well-shot, well-written, and well-acted films, including the mockingjay movies, and i will die on this hill
#i may be a huge book nerd but i'm also a movie buff so i'm obligated to be loyal to both mediums#i feel that both the books and the movies offer a full story when put together and i honestly couldn't have one without the other#i saw someone say the mockingjay movies were bad and i was like...wtf are you talking about and did we see the same movies??#suzanne created such beautiful rich characters and jennifer/josh/donald/woody/elizabeth/sam brought them to life for me#since i'm a very visual person i really appreciate the movies for being as faithful as they were#anyways i just adore these movies (and the books) so much so if anyone wants to shit on them they can go thru me#the hunger games#thg#thg movies#mockingjay#catching fire#the ballad of songbirds and snakes#tbosas#suzanne collins#katniss everdeen#president snow#peeta mellark#effie trinket#haymitch abernathy#coriolanus snow#finnick odair#lucy gray baird#tigris snow#johanna mason#sejanus plinth#jennifer lawrence#josh hutcherson#elizabeth banks#woody harrelson#donald sutherland

Tigris...
I keep going back to her. In fact I think there will eventually be a book, a short story, or something, simply because her story is left so open.
When we were first introduced to her in Mockingjay she was an oddity to me. Cresseida saw a friend in her, she was a rebel sympathizer, risked herself by helping, had not been part of the Hunger Games in years and years... yet she was immersed enough in capitol culture that she had almost turned herself into a tiger? At least I had assumed that she had chosen to have cosmetic surgery. It was striking to me, because I'd assume that one who has enough judgement to do the previously mentioned things despite the constant propaganda (including the one happening within her one house throughout her upbringing) would HAVE some kind of line concerning what is style and a bit of interfering with natural looks and what is pretty much madness.
TBoSaS only enhanced such thoughts. The girl we meet there? The one taking care of her cousin, doing her job well but still having a mind to judge the demeanor of her employer, living in poverty, having been through the same bombings and hunger that Snow has. We don't even know how she kept herself and her grandma going when Snow was away. Did she have to sell herself, which IS something she migh have done in the past considering Snow's thoughts immediately going towards that direction when she was trying to fix his clothes? She was even being so creative in finding natural ways to make things beautiful and stylish... I don't see her becoming a woman who goes into this animal-like transformation.
Now, we know that she was part of some of the earliest (post-10th, but still very early) Hunger Games as a stylist, when the job was yet not even an official one. There is one line Katniss has that really pops out to me:
Why is she doing this? She's no Cinna, someone willing to sacrifice herself for others. This woman was the embodiment of Capitol shallowness. She was one of the stars of the Hunger Games until...until she wasn't. So is that it, then? Bitterness? Hatred? Revenge? Actually, I'm comforted by the idea.A need for revenge can burn long and hot. Especially if every glance in a mirror reinforces it.
But we know that Tigris never started as any of those things. Neither does she seem like a shallow, empty-headed person by the time we needed. So what if what happened to Tigris is not cosmetic surgery?
I can definitely see Tigris being the stylist of a tribute, genuinely trying to help, being indeed the first 'Cinna'. Then the tribute wins, she at least gets the sense of having helped someone through that and he/she is forced into sex-work by Snow. That is a step too far for her, she makes a point of it in the next games and the surgery becomes her punishment. After all, let's consider Gaul, her creation of mutts and even Snow studying under her. Tigris growls, she doesn't eat proper food (just raw meat), she doesn't just look like a tiger, but has this animalistic movement. Whatever that surgery was? It did NOT just affect her appearence.

My Everlark playlist, a full list and analysis (that no one asked for but I’m going to offer anyways). All songs linked in their title!
1) Swan Upon Leda (Hozier)
“One more sweet boy butchered by men”
“The gateway to the world / Was still outside the reach of him / Would never belong to angels / Had never belonged to men”
This song is on this playlist for a whole host of reasons, and I could write an entire paper analyzing its application to the THG & the reason for why I chose it as the title of my everlark fic, but I’ll try to keep this short & succinct
The Capitol controls Panem through fear, and they do this by “sacrificing” children in the name of a “game”. In this song, Hozier makes it clear that creation of life, and thus life itself, is not something man can control. That’s a major point in Katniss’s fight against the capitol- is to remove its tyranny and use of children as a tool to instill fear.
2) Eat Your Young (Hozier)
“Skinnin’ the children for a war drum / Put in front of the table, sellin’ bombs and guns / It’s quicker and easier to eat your young”
This song exhibits the greed of the Capital, and more particularly Snow, and the use of children’s lives as a way to control people.
Also- the imagery that Hozier creates reminds me that a lot of the people fighting in the Revolution are also children - Peeta and Katniss and Gale and Prim are children, fighting in a war for freedom.
3) My Lagan Love (Hozier’s Cover)
“She has my heart in thrall / Nor life I owe, or liberty / For love is lord of all”
Can we all just agree that Irish songs are great? This just sounds majestic and pretty and exactly like something I’d imagine Katniss would sing as a lullaby
4) In a Week (Hozier, ft Karen Cowley)
“We lay here for years or for hours / Your hand in my hand / So still and discreet / So long, we’d become the flowers”
This song is about two lovers dying and their bodies decaying side by side, for them to exist in both life and death together. Idk about you, but Everlark has the kind of love where they would both die if one of them died, and this song feels even more fitting if you consider how many times both of them were willing to die for the other.
5) Where’s My Love (SYML)
Rather than explain this one, I will simply direct you to this AMAZING fan edit
6) favorite crime (Olivia Rodrigo)
Yet another instance where I will redirect you to a fan edit
7) It All Comes Down To This (Aquilo)
“Let you play with my heart like it's nothing but water / Falling down down, down down”
I would say this reminds me of Peeta falling for Katniss, but in fact it reminds me of the way Katniss falls so fast for Peeta, without even realizing that it’s happening. Everything feels so sudden and serious and grave, like everything comes down to just the two of them.
8) I Found (Amber Run)
“Oh, and I found love where it wasn’t supposed to be, oh / right in front of me”
The Hunger Games are, arguably, a odd place to find love. And yet that’s where Katniss finds it, right in front of her.
The other lyrics are just, spot on, with how they bounce off of each other as they try to navigate the life they live
9) Overcome (Skott)
“I'm trying to make sense of it all / Trying to understand”
“Fading stars echo / Reminding us they know / We've come too far to let go / Don't let go”
This song makes me think of post mockingjay, or even during mockingjay, as they fight to overcome everything they’ve done and seen. They are just trying to live and overcome all their grief and trauma and move on and heal.
10) Body (SYML)
“I fought the world for your hand / Give my new body a chance / It’s all I have”
After the hijacking, Peeta is stuck in a body and mind that no longer feels like his own. And at first, Katniss cannot see him, she thinks he’s gone. This is him trying to make it back to her, begging her to let him come back.
11) village song (Paris Paloma)
“And the blackberry juice drips like blood on the leaves / And the blood on the fox drips like dew from its teeth”
This song is eerie in a way that makes me think of Katniss. I don’t know how to describe it, but the image that this song paints, or rather makes me feel, makes me think of Katniss. Of maybe a life she would have lived in a different time.
12) Funeral (Phoebe Bridgers)
“I’m singin’ at a funeral tomorrow / For a kid a year older than me”
While this song has several mentions of modern-day stuff, I can’t help but be struck with this line. We know Katniss sings, and I can’t help but imagine this is a scenario she’s fallen into; singing at funerals for district 12’s fallen tributes. And all the heaviness that comes with that.
13) Sparks (Coldplay)
“My heart is yours / It’s you that I hold on to”
Peeta definitely knows Katniss is his everything, and Katniss might be in denial, but Peeta is also (a big part of) her everything.
14) Silhouette (Aquilo)
“Devil’s on your shoulder / Strangers in your head / As if you don’t remember / As if you can’t forget”
“‘Cause these city walls never knew / That we’d make it this far / We’ve become echos / But echos are fadin’ away”
“So let’s dance like two shadows / Burning out the glory days”
This song, I imagine, is them growing old. Perhaps Peeta has a bad hijack episode for the first time in a long time. And they sway together in the living room with brittle bones and grey hair, just silhouettes of something that once was. He is momentarily a stranger, Katniss is forgotten, but their love still remains. They are echos of Panem’s freedom, that are slowly fading away.
15) Time Comes in Roses (Bess Atwell)
“I’m scared of sleeping, and I don’t know why / how it dances you into a lonely night”
“And I’ve been slower than I thought / At getting my life off the rocks ”
After the war, Katniss falls into a depression. She feels like time is zipping by, and yet there’s nothing she can do, and the world is too much and too heavy and too hard to handle with all that she’s lost. This is the in between, the between Prim’s death, and between Peeta returning home.
17) The Archer (Adam Melchor)
“This is how you turned me / To the archer from the arch / This is where you turned me / To the the marksman from the marked”
“But how they all just circle back / And meet me at the start / And how they hit me hard enough / To question who you are”
While this song has imagery and metaphors that align more with Katniss, I actually think the meaning of the song resonates more with Peeta’s story. When Peeta gets hijacked, all his memories are turned against Katniss. Suddenly Katniss is the villain of his story. And this is how things got twisted, and how he wrestles with his new reality and tries to make things make more sense. And he needs time.
18) Evergreen (Richy Mitch & the Coal Miners)
“Locked in a stalemate / With a man who bars no holds”
This song doesn’t have many lyrics, but what it does have gives me an image of Katniss, trying to figure out what she’s going to do with her situation.
19) If the World Falls to Pieces (Young Summer)
“Oh, at least we can say we tried / Never gave up / Didn’t go down without a fight”
In an alternate set of events, where the rebellion doesn’t win. And Katniss and Peeta have to reconcile with themselves.
20) You Could Start a Cult (Niall Horan)
“Anywhere you go, I’ll be / You are so much more than beautiful to me”
“Swear you, you could start a war or two / Kingdoms fighting over you / To wake up at your side is all I wanna do”
If Katniss or Peeta started a cult, the other would most definitely be in the cult and no one can convince me otherwise. These two tried to die for each other. Multiple times.
Also, can I just say that I LOVE this song, SO much. If this isn’t the most poetic love piece I don’t know what is.
21) Nobody (Bess Atwell)
“If I don’t believe in us / Nobody is meant for me”
Katniss doesn’t realize it, but when Peeta comes back hijacked and doesn’t see her as her anymore, suddenly it’s like her life is over. She’s kind of like “well fuck, I guess I’ll be alone huh”
22) Human (Aquilo)
“But these things they’ll all get better / And even if it’s tough”
“Feet on ground, you’ll come round / And be human again”
This is everlark healing, together. They are just human. And they have to remind each other of that fact.
23) Science (Niall Horan)
“So, when you feel there’s nothin’ left / Oh, there’s still a heart beatin’ in your chest”
If I could send a message to these two battered and bruised fictional characters, it would be this one. That in the end, they will be okay.
24) I Could Fight On a Wall (Aquilo)
“And I could fight in a war / It’s not something I would choose / But it’s something I could do for you”
These two would do anything for each other. Like fight in a war. Which they do.
25) I Wish I Was The Moon (Ewan J Phillips)
“Oh I wish I was the moon / So that I might be with you”
I’m pretty sure this song is actually about a break up and wishing to see that person one more time, but I feel like this might be fitting for everlark as well. They are the “star crossed lovers”, and as much as we may resent the title and all it stands for, it’s true. When they are apart, like when Peeta is stuck in the capitol and Katniss is in 13, I’d imagine they did wish to be the moon.
26) Hurts Like Hell (Fleurie)
“I loved, and I loved, and I lost you / And it hurts like hell”
Grief is hard. After Prim’s death (and really like, everyone else), Katniss takes it hard. Understandably. She fought so hard for her sister, volunteered in her place, fought hard to make a world where her sister wouldn’t have to ever face the possibility of stepping into an arena. And she still lost her, so quickly. And yeah, that does hurt like hell.
27) You Say (Lauren Daigle)
“When I don’t belong, oh you say I am yours”
Something Katniss struggles with is knowing her self worth. And I like to imagine, after Mockingjay, Peeta helps with that. And she helps him.
But ALSO - this song reminds me of post-hijacked Peeta, when he’s dropped into the capital with Katniss, fighting to come back to her. And the scene in the subway/sewer, where he’s convinced he’s nothing (“I’m a mutt”) and she tells him no, she needs him. (“Stay with me”)
28) Once in a Dream (In the City)
“Once in a dream I thought I could be anyone I wanted”
“Once in a dream I thought I could keep you safe forever”
This song makes me think of the lost innocence of young girl, who’s father died in the mines, who was forced to take care of her family, who nearly starved to death, who was sent into an arena expected to fight and kill and die for entertainment as a political pawn, who’s home was turned to rubble, and who had to fight to stop more than one dictator. This song makes me think of the lost innocence of a young boy who’s mother beat him, who fell in love with a little girl who barely noticed he existed, who was sent into an arena expected to fight and kill and die for entertainment as a political pawn, who’s home was turned to rubble, who was brainwashed into thinking he was someone he wasn’t, and who had to fight to stop more than one dictator.
29) Sparrow for a Heart (Abigail Lapell)
“When I was young, I had a sparrow for a heart / And a redwing’s eyes”
“When I am old, would you carry my bones / To the blood-red sea”
A sparrow and a mocking bird are by no means the same thing, but this song reminds me of the pin, and the spirit. And the courage and bravery and fear that Katniss had. And the pain.

Most of these I don’t have to explain. Because. They are the songs for the movies themselves. But I still have a notes for a few. :)
30) Tomorrow Will Be Kinder (The Secret Sisters)
“Sorrow weighs my shoulders down / And trouble haunts my mind / But I know the present will not last / And tomorrow will be kinder”
This song pulls me out of depression. & I wish it could be played for both of them. To help them both know, that better days are ahead of them.
31) Safe & Sound (Taylor Swift)
“Just close your eyes / The sun is going down / You’ll be alright / No one can hurt you now”
32) Everybody Wants to Rule the World (Lorde)
“Of freedom and of pleasure / Nothing ever lasts forever”
33) Yellow Flicker Beat (Lorde)
“This is the start of how it ends / They used to shout my name, now they whisper it”
34) Ladder Song (Lorde)
“You’re not alone in anything / You’re not unique in dying”
35) District 12 Ruins (James Newton Howard)
This plays at such a pivotal and gut wrenching moment. As Katniss returns to a completely devastated 12. Everything she knows turned to rubble.
36) They’re Back (James Newton Howard)
37) The Hanging Tree (Jennifer Lawrence)
“Where I told you to run, so we’d both be free”
38) Your Favorite Color is Green (James Newton Howard)
39) Primrose (James Newton Howard)
I hear this song & I can vividly see the scene of them sitting in the doorway in 12 watching as it rains outside. I can see her walking down the hallway, candle in hand, curling into bed with him. I can hear the “You love me, real or not real” and the “Real”. And it makes me cry.
40) There Are Worse Games to Play / Deep In the Meadow (James Newton Howard & Jennifer Lawrence)
“Lay down your head / And close your eyes / And when they open / The sun will rise”
The last scene, where Katniss comforts Rye, and Peeta and Willow are playing in the background - FUCK it gets me. And so does the meadow song.

i think the one theory about the hunger games that annoys me the most is the 74th games being rigged. Katniss being the accidental face of the rebellion is the main plot point of the hunger games. because even when her name was in that bowl several times, when so many other people, like Gale, had their names in the draft dozens of times, it was Prim. young, innocent, never-had-to-take-a-tesserae Prim. the 12 year old who only had her name in the bowl once. the odds are never in her favor. but it was just that. odds. it was unlikely, yes, but never impossible.
and that's the most important plot point, because it's true for Katniss' entire arc as the mockingjay.
mockingjays, the bird, are a representation of the Capitol's lack of control. the Capitol created jabberjays, but mockingjays were never supposed to exist, that's why Snow hates them. the Capitol couldn't have planned that jabberjays would reproduce with something as normal as a mockingbird. because mockingbirds have always been around, and they were never a threat. but mockingjays are, because in some twisted way, they also exist because of the Capitol. it was the creation of jabberjays as completely planned war instruments that eventually led to the existence of mockingjays. the Capitol created the circumstances, but they couldn't have predicted the consequences. it's why the mockingjay as the symbol of the revolution is so powerful.
it's why Katniss is the mockingjay. she wasn't born a hero, or the leader of the rebellion. people like Katniss have always existed in district 12. in some way, she's also the Capitol's creation. because it was the Capitol who created the circumstances that led Katniss to a rebellion. that's why it's important that the games weren't rigged. yes, they could be, sometimes they are. we see it when Katniss and Gale talk about the Victor's kids being drafted, or more directly with Lucy Gray. but they are rigged for a reason. the mayor had reasons to punish Lucy Gray and the covey, the Capitol needed to prove to the districts that not even the strongest among them were safe from the system. there would be no reason to draft Prim, or lead Katniss to the games. after all, they were just regular district 12 citizens. they were just mockingbirds. and just like with real mockingjays, they couldn't have predicted the outcome.
the Capitol created the system, the jabberjays, the games. and then the jabberjays met the mockingbirds, and Katniss picked up those berries, and they lost control. and mockingjays were born. it's why Snow hates mockingjays. it's why he hates Katniss. because a spark is fine as long as it's contained and mockingjays were the one thing that not only could he not plan, he couldn't contain.
