I like to think Viggo would make sure that he is alone before treating his Skrill like the big ol puppy she is. Alternatively, the Skrill waits until they are alone before acting like a big ol puppy.
Also Viggo absolutely uses pet names for her you cannot change my mind.

Kinda feel like Dagur and Viggo should have swapped dragons.
Obviously the Skrill is the sign of the Berserkers, and I feel Dagur matches a Skrill well because they are both chaotic and “charge” in (heh). Him learning to calm himself and a Skrill would have been so badass. Also the parallel to the Skrill coming back twice and the riders changing how they dealt with it mirrors how they dealt with Dagur. First, imprisonment, as they saw no other option. But then they saw things from the other perspective, saw what they truly were: someone scared and lashing out of fear.
Viggo getting a dragon that has to strategise to live, having three different type of venoms with wildly different outcomes. The Triple Stryke didn’t want to kill Toothless when we first met him, he just wanted to live, and given the chance he escaped. Viggo never really wanted to kill Hiccup, he just saw it as the only option. Just as the Triple Stryke is more understood and joins forces with the riders, Viggo eventually sees Hiccup’s point of view.
Idk maybe I’m wrong, but I feel like they got the wrong dragon lol

Did Viggo Really Die? (RTTE Headcanon and Theory)
Tumblr media
Well met, my fellow Furians! Today, we'll dive into a topic I've been sitting on for years since the show, particularly Season 6, back in 2018.
Did Viggo really die in "Triple Cross"?
Thankfully, several other people have had this suspicion besides me, from what I saw after googling it.
There's @kingofthewilderwest 's post here, though it's about Season 4, I feel it applies well here. There's also a discussion thread about Viggo's death on the HTTYD Wiki here if you feel like checking it out.
But I found it really odd that Viggo "died" so anti-climatically when he survived a BLOODY VOLCANO!!! (That still ticks me off, by the way.)
What makes it stranger is that we see Viggo acting injured in this scene when Hiccup turns to Viggo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And what happens after Hiccup leaves? Viggo straightens, drops the facade, and does THIS:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean look at this mad-lad WALKING AND CHARGING like nothing had happened to him!!! It's absurd!
And those arrows didn't look like they went all that deep. Which, when you think about it, makes sense. After all, there's no way Viggo wouldn't have arrow-resistant armor. Being the Chieftain of Dragon Hunters, his armor is probably mostly made of dragon materials. His cuirass is likely made of some tough dragon material, specifically made to repel any assassination attempts. Someone in his position must've had a lot of assassination attempts and even mutinies. Either that or Viggo is just extremely careful and wants to make sure every precaution is taken to ensure his safety and life.
Of course, the Skrill's fire blast might've killed him, but considering that we never see his death, we haven't seen a body, and the fact Krogan and Johann never mentioned it must mean that Viggo is actually alive.
Allow me to explain how this could be possible.
Viggolocks and the Three Accomplices
As you know, there is a special meaning to "Triple Cross". Not only is it encompassing the double-cross by Krogan and Johann against Viggo, but also the triple-cross Viggo did against them.
However, there's also another reason:
The Accomplices!
In this episode, when Hiccup met Viggo, the latter had this to say:
Tumblr media
"The Accomplice. One of the most important pieces in all of Maces and Talons, allowing a player to use an opponent's piece for their own ends. You can certainly win without it; but with it, you can attain total victory."
<><><><><>
This entire episode's theme is about accomplices. In fact, it's accomplices who are the episode's catalyst.
How many? Three.
Yes, that's right. THREE!
Hiccup is the first accomplice, obviously.
Who's the second?
A Skrill. Viggo drags Hiccup along to a very cold and snowy place (my theory and headcanon is someplace around the Shivering Shores), and uses a shiny dagger to attract a Skrill to him.
Tumblr media
But why a Skrill? Viggo explains this to Hiccup in this scene:
Tumblr media
"In ancient times, the Singetail was one of the most feared dragons. However, there was one dragon, whose powerful blast could neutralize the Singetail's fire. Meet our Accomplice, Hiccup. The Singetail's only predator: the Skrill."
<><><><><>
Krogan's Flyers were guarding the Hunter base where the Dragon Eye was located. As such, having a Skrill — the Singetails' natural predator and only enemy — on their side was essential to their plan, even if it was just to be a distraction.
However, there was one more accomplice — a third accomplice — who might have possibly been involved that Hiccup (and perhaps even Viggo) didn't know was involved in their little scheme.
This guy, in Season 5's "Wings of War".
Tumblr media
Honestly, I truly view this to be an abysmal display of teasing us with a plot point, only to not do anything with it! Seriously! What a waste of a good plot device! 😤💢😠
Or is it? 👀🤔
When he and Viggo dived into the volcano in Dragon's Edge, he almost fell off the ledge and into the volcano (even though, in reality, it's impossible to be anywhere near a volcano without dying from one thing or another 😑).
However, Viggo saved him from dying, causing the Hunter Goon to say this:
Tumblr media
Dragon Hunter: I owe you my life!
Viggo: Perhaps someday you will repay me in some small way.
<><><><><>
Bear in mind, Viggo didn't do this out of the goodness of his heart. He needed an ally — or an accomplice, in this case — who he could use in the tentative ally-cum-rival's camp. And saving his life was a great way to hook him into doing whatever he wanted him to do.
Thus, it is entirely possible that Viggo recruited him to take part in this scheme, fully intending to escape, take back his Hunters, and go to other lands to continue his empire.
In fact, what's interesting is the expression of this Hunter in this scene below.
Tumblr media
Of course, as you know, from the earlier GIFs, it could just be that he was surprised at Viggo charging at him. But you never know.
Of course, one could point out that the Hunter might've already paid Viggo back by interrupting Viggo (and thus Krogan's attempt at assassinating him) in "Wings of War". However, I find that to be a flimsy rebuttal, and I don't believe that Viggo would let that slide and would argue that he already knew of Krogan's scheme, and thus, would insist that the Hunter still owed him.
Conclusion
Therefore, it is my conclusion — along with my theory and headcanon — that Viggo survived this confrontation. Albeit injured, he is saved by the Hunter whose life he redeemed for his own use as the unknown accomplice (to Hiccup) for his plans, and helped him escape Krogan and Johann, where they go to some isolated place to heal. And later, Viggo would gather the remnants of the Hunters, reunite with his Tribe, and sail to distant lands, as he had promised Hiccup.
What do you guys think? Do you think it's plausible? Did you also think it unlikely that Viggo perished in this episode? Let me know your thoughts!
Thanks for reading! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Teamwork
This is going to sound a little odd given how some of my previous posts mentioned Viggo being very dismissive of Dagur...BUT I'm going to throw this idea out there. Imagine Viggo and Dagur as actual business partners/crime buddies. (Spoilers ahead)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, just hear me out. They are extremely different, yes, but I think their strengths balance the other's weaknesses. Let's consider Viggo. His biggest flaw is what I like to somewhat affectionately call his Viggo ego. The man is cocky to a new level. He couldn't even imagine someone betraying him, not him because he's the genius Viggo Grimborn. He can tell Dagur to follow orders and that he's dumb and he'll do nothing. Oops, okay, he did something. Viggo can ridicule his brother time and time again and Ryker will obviously do nothing to him because who can, right? Well, Ryker apparently can turn on him. Hmm, weird. Okay, for real this time, no one else can try to touch him. Dang it, Krogan and Johann! Just had to try to kill the guy. Don't you know that no one can go against Viggo? He's amazing. Well, that's the thing, he is, but he's so aware of that fact that he sets himself up for failure by not even considering real dangers as threats. It's really Viggo's only weak area. Besides that, he's incredibly strategic, level-headed, cool, charismatic, etc. He just needs to balance out that arrogance of his. I think Dagur could help him with this.
Despite Dagur definitely being a cocky guy too, he's nowhere near Viggo's level. To put it in perspective, the guy didn't even fight back after getting choked out because he didn't want to mess up his plan. He never said anything when the Grimborns mocked him and he also let Alvin think he was in charge back in DoB. This is the type of influence Viggo needs in his life. If he's willing to listen, Dagur could help open his eyes to the people around him and how they aren't all on his side. Honestly, once Viggo doesn't have to worry about his "allies" trying to kill or betray him, he's pretty much good. That removes about 70% of his problems. Even just in the two interacting, Dagur could probably help Viggo gain some humility and learn to not underestimate people. It would be difficult for the crime boss to accept that someone like Dagur is actually smart, so it would be an important first step for him to take. Afterwards, he could probably start opening his mind more to different forms of intelligence and not just assuming, "I'm better than you and you'll never stand a chance against me," when meeting someone.
Considering Dagur, I think his biggest weakness is his temper. No, not his mind. That's not fair and honestly not true. Him being deranged has led to him being unpredictable, a valuable trait when going up against people. He's also still very capable, so it's never held him back. His temper on the other hand. Woo. Yeah, that causes some issues. He gets angry over tiny things and just cannot function anymore. Dagur, if you stayed calm, you probably would've expected the tail to the face when Heather and the Riders left. Probably would've also not retreated in fury when the A Team showed up. This is how he had his first real loss against Hiccup back when they were kids because he was so angry at the provocation that he didn't pay attention and took him on with the Skrill, electrocuting himself. He had the advantage before that because of the numbers, but he reacted too hastily. Just have to get that temper under control.
Viggo is so calm and reasonable that I could see him helping with this. Even in times when he's lost, he can respect a game well played. There are times when he's lost his temper, but it's very rare and he generally keeps a cool head. Now, he'd need to not be condescending towards Dagur since that would make it worse, but I think he could be beneficial. Viggo getting through to Dagur, finding out why he actually gets so furious about things and helping him calm down/think things through when he's in one of those states would really help him out.
So, this friendship would definitely take time to work. It also might take some situations where they're forced to rely on each other first, but I think there's potential. Unfortunately, this would ultimately be to the detriment of the world because a Viggo who doesn't underestimate his foes and a Dagur who doesn't let his anger get the better of him are a deadly duo.

"I'm...okay. I got engaged. He's really nice. You...remember Krogan, don't you?" The older man said. Mitzy was distracted, wriggling out of Viggo's arms and playing with the older skrill's tail. The skrill, who Viggo "creatively" named Sparky, simply swatted it with his tail.
"Can you two not fight for THREE seconds." Viggo grumbled, turning and separating the two.
Hiccup's eyes narrowed. "Krogan? Didn't he try to kill you?" This made no sense to Hiccup. "The only thing you two hated more than each other was me, and that's saying something. You both tried to kill me a lot."
"Ah, I wouldn't call that fighting, per se. For dragons? That's more like playing, really."

Something I am reeling about today.
Race to the Edge was originally supposed to have 4 seasons. Not 6. But what one can presume is that it garnered enough popularity that the extra two seasons were added. Hence why we got a Dragon Eye 2, Krogan was given more screentime, the King of Dragons came into play, Mala and Dagur became a thing, but what was outlined more to me, that Viggo was brought back.
With the show originally intended to be four seasons, Viggo was meant to be the main villain of the series. Dagur being a threat in Season 1, then 2 leading into the Dragon Hunters, then 3 and 4 centering around Viggo and Ryker.
Then I think about, what the end of RTTE was supposed to be. Shellshocked Pt. 2. In the final minutes of the finale. Viggo threatening Astrid, and Hiccup throwing the Dragon Eye into the volcano. Viggo chasing after it, and the rock crumbling beneath him, last words crying out, “HICCUP!”
And frankly wanting to admit, that is really the only way it could have ended. Viggo needing to be eliminated because he would never surrender, and the Dragon Eye destroyed because it was too dangerous in any hands.
I don’t think that at the point they stood at it would make sense for him to have been redeemed as he was in Triple Cross.
But I reflect upon what the ending was meant to be. Viggo meeting his end in that way. Imagine if we hadn’t been given two more seasons. That would’ve been an extremely grim ending. Like imagine going from that to HTTYD 2. And here’s me wondering, if Hiccup’s reaction after Viggo fell into the volcano was always planned, wasn’t altered even after they got the green light for two more seasons.
How he reacted, he looked remorseful, the way he worriedly stared into the lava. The saddened tone of “Viggo. It didn’t have to end this way. And I will be honest, even if it was brief, Viggo was the only villain which Hiccup actually looked shocked was gone. He did that for no one else, not for Grimmel, Drago, and not even Alvin when he got struck by the Skrill’s lightning. That scene, of how he stares down at where Viggo had fallen, and Astrid comes up to him and asks him if he’s okay. Just a mere minute ago Astrid had been threatened by this very man holding her own axe to her throat, and she’s asking Hiccup if he’s okay. I literally yell at the screen at this part. To comfort her, she’s the one who just endured something traumatic. Yet, there’s a moment of silence, where Hiccup stares morosely downward. And he says he’s okay. But he doesn’t check on her wellbeing, if she’s okay after what Viggo had done.
But to me, in showing his shocked expression, displays some sort of mourning over Viggo. Reinforced by the sentence he says afterward. I say this again, this was meant to be the last episode. Had it ended like this, we would have gotten that Hiccup demonstrated some regret in how Viggo came to pass. The writers wanted to leave us with that kind of impact for the end. BUT, it didn’t end like this. Once the next season came we were given a reveal of him having survived the fall into the volcano, but not emerging unscathed.
The writers of RTTE really had the capacity of making him a villain all over again. We see the scars on his face, the marred eye. They worked to reveal his new change ever so nicely. I for one would have completely understood if they had made him vengeful, because of how harshly the Riders struck him down. It would make sense for him to regather forces in attempts to strike them down, even with Hiccup in specificity. Yet, they didn’t. In Wings of Disaster they wished to show us he’d partnered with another villain, that he still had an obsession in obtaining the Dragon Eye. He spoke in reverence of Hiccup, not how he wished to be close enough to him to drive a blade through his heart. We were showed how out of their way they went to show Viggo was not vengeful.
Then, I feel obligated to point out Triple Cross. The very last episode we get with him. Where we get a very short-lived redemption. A redemption I do not think, was originally planned. It was the direction went down because they decided not to make Viggo vengeful for the final two seasons. It was even outlined for us too, in that episode. Krogan so helpfully points it out: “Why do you want him alive? He scarred your face, destroyed your brother and, decimated your empire.” Literally showing us how he was capable of this, yet did not take this path. This was even testing the chance of his redemption too. There wasn’t enough time for Viggo to react, maybe he could have changed his mind, told Krogan that as he spelled it out, why not let Hiccup be killed.
But we reach that point. Left to believe Viggo met his end. The final scene of Triple Cross? Astrid saying it felt weird he was gone, Hiccup saying he taught them a lot. Hiccup takes the piece that represented Viggo during their game, and knocks it over. Signifying the fallen player, then sealing the Maces & Talons board. Once again, bearing a saddened expression with slumped shoulders before steeling himself and exiting.
To think. Hiccup reacted in that way back in season 4 when they were still enemies, but yeesh how they did it when he sacrificed himself and left a parting gift.
I wish to say this, the writers always had this intention. They wanted to show us that Hiccup grieved Viggo’s death. No matter how he met it, they wanted us to witness this. And doesn’t it make you wanna ship vigcup just a little bit more.

I really like to think that when Hiccup is really pissed over the riders worrying about him/ doubting him (especially if it’s talking about Viggo staying with them on the edge with his skrill) he’ll just pull the:
“I’ve literally been attack by lightning before; I have endured Thor wrath and survived. Do you really think some old dragon hunter who doesn’t even realized they’ve been adopted by a skrill is gonna be the end of me?” Card
I feel like he would also just pull the list of the amount of people they’ve been able to convert to dragon lovers/Friends/dragon riders
Like there are a lot of people who they have convinced to turn to their side or to stop trying to kill them or to stop hating them (for Hiccup it’s literally everyone he knows)
Also also I like to think that the moment Hiccup figured out that Viggo got adopted/scented by a skrill all the fear and wariness he had before just dissolved. Like it takes a lot for a skrill to feel one is worthy, and this allowed for not only another ally, but someone who knows the enemy and their mindset personally BUT also the chance to learn about a skrill first hand.
Like he doesn’t completely trust him, not at all. That takes time. But it’s basically “if a skrill of all things forgave him, even knowing what he is and what he has done then so can I”

Headcanon
I'd like to think that if Viggo survived, he'd initially try to just fuck off into the wilderness with his Skrill (spurred by feelings of shame, regret and sorrow, wanting to never be seen again nor give the Riders any more trouble), but Hiccup would insist on him staying at the Edge with the Riders. It would take the others far longer to get used to Viggo's presence than it initially took for Hiccup. Notably, the twins are actually the first other Riders to welcome him, given that they were there when the whole Triple Cross incident went down. Viggo tries his darndest to prove that he's changing his ways - he takes care of the dragons, learns about them on a personal level, and every moment of his free time is spent bonding with, flying with and spending time with his Skrill (who I have named Beast). Beast proves to be ridiculously loyal to Viggo, a type of loyalty that Viggo doesn't feel he deserves. Nevertheless, he sticks around, if only because he has nowhere else to go.
Hiccup and Viggo are definitely the closest out of the bunch. Viggo acts almost like an advisor to Hiccup, and is constantly suggesting tactics and strategy the gang never would have considered otherwise. He's the only one of the Rider's Viggo will really converse with (in fact, the Riders were surprised at just how quiet Viggo can be when he's not being all theatrical - a habit since dropped out of newfound insecurity). Viggo is comfortable calling Hiccup a friend, and... I think fandom has their relationship all sussed out, ya get me? ;)
Viggo takes solace in the fact that the twins are the most chill people on Earth and don't appear to hold any sort of grudge against him. After all, they were there to witness his near-sacrifice and injuries, so they've quickly come to be... okay with his existence. Obviously they don't fully trust him yet, but they're comfy enough around him to subject him to their chaos. Their shenanigans may be a little hectic at times, but he's more than willing to embrace them if it means there's people out there who don't glare at him constantly. The only thing he dislikes about the twins is their habit of poking Beast in order to be electrocuted, which definitely irritates both her and Viggo.
Fishlegs was initially visibly skittish around Viggo, especially when he got too close to Meatlug. Viggo picked up on this and tried his best to stay far away from her at first. As time went on, they were able to bond a little over dragon knowledge; remember the first time Meatlug made Gronkle Iron and how during the search for the recipe she made all those other materials? Yeah, Viggo was aware of that property of Gronkles and Fishlegs was absolutely fascinated. I also like to imagine that Viggo helped Fishlegs work through the whole Ingerman Hunters thing by reminding him that he can't change the past, he can only try to do the right thing in the present so that things may be better in the future (Fishlegs suspects that he was mostly talking to himself when he said this).
Snotlout is still fucking terrified of Viggo. The man is able to get Hookfang to listen. Why wouldn't he be afraid?
Astrid definitely took the longest to warm up to Viggo, and definitely shot him the most glares those first few weeks. Viggo is understanding of this, considering everything that's happened to her i.e. the Volcano Incident, getting shot in the leg etc. Stormfly didn't seem to trust him either. They eventually warmed up to each other, if only a little, through bonding with each others dragons.
Viggo is very affectionate with Beast, in the same way Hiccup and Toothless are. Viggo constantly finds himself talking to Beast, narrating his thoughts to her in the same way he used to do with Ryker. He treats her as an equal, and they'll often eat meals together - Viggo isn't comfortable with eating in the clubhouse with the other Riders yet. He also prefers to sleep tucked under her wing, and considers it a nicer place to rest than any bed (except when she sleep-shocks him, but he considers that quite cute anyway). He's aware of all her little tendencies - her apprehension towards water, her attraction to shiny objects, and her apparent ability to sing. Beast also has a habit of rubbing up against Viggo in the same way a cat might, and covering him with her wing like a shield. Viggo is also working on armor made of Beast's shed scales so that she can safely redirect electricity without hurting him. He bears more than a few minor electrical burns, but he doesn't mind. He's just happy to have earned her trust.

The fact that Viggo tamed the Skrill is a perfect illustration of the fact that he was the only one who came close to defeating Hiccup, just as the Skrill was close to defeating the Night fury. Viggo and Hiccup are equal, just like their dragons c:
yes!! i really loved that he got the skrill like that was so beautiful, especially in their arc reflections with viggo v hiccup and toothless v skrill, enemies at first and then even when they get close to being friends it always goes a bit south then finally they manage to connect and work together its a really good part of their dynamic and I wish we got to see more of it

Grimmel wasn't as smart as the movie makes him look.
he was honestly obnoxious with his little god complex. he could have been a teensy more humble, especially with how stupid he is.
first, he didn't have the light fury drugged with the deathgripper venom. that allowed her to do a lot of things that really jinxed him in the end, especially when she revealed the Hidden World to Toothless (and Hicstrid, if i remember correctly). that offered a whole new arsenal of dragons for Toothless to command. even if he didn't know it existed, wouldn't it have been just plain foolish to let a wild dragon do wild dragon things when her single job was to seduce Toothless and bring him back to Grimmel to be slaughtered? especially when he knew she must've had a family out there she could have easily ran back to? Grimmel was taking a shot in the dark by using her in the first place.
second, he only had deathgrippers. he didn't keep a SINGLE other dragon. and while i love deathgrippers with all my heart, they do have a lot of weaknesses. they can't breathe fire (naturally, they wouldn't need to as ambush hunters) so against dragons who can fire at a long range, they're basically useless. they have to get close to a target to sting it and they certainly aren't THAT fast. definitely not fast enough to chase down a night fury (arguably one of the fastest dragons in the air) and sting it. with their mantis-like front legs, it would have been equally hard on land. which is why they're AMBUSH HUNTERS. had he had some deadly nadders or something, he'd probably would've claimed more lives in that fight. hell, he's probably smart enough to have grabbed a skrill. but he didn't.
third, why didn't he just grab Toothless himself? the gang is very, very trusting and probably would've accepted him. he could have easily made up a name and story on the spot that made him look like he rescued the deathgrippers. (ex."i'm Nicholas and these are my deathgrippers. i rescued them and also they're very sick. these purple vials are actually a very special medicine i make specifically for their condition. Also I'm from like Nebraska or something.") and like nobody would question it (aside from Astrid who's actually skeptical and Hiccup and Fishlegs who'd probably want the recipe and know what the dragons do). then he could gain their trust and definitely use his like six deathgrippers to paralyze, kill, and carry Toothless off. you know the phrase "if you want something done right, you do it yourself"? yeah.
fourth, he didn't have many people working for him and he certainly didn't use them responsibly. if HE didn't want to manipulate the gang, he could have easily sent a guy. he certainly didn't give them ample weaponry or the ability to go airborne to fight for him. yes, he hates dragons, big fucking whoop. but so did Drago and Viggo and Ryker. but Drago used a bewilderbeast to usurp power from Valka's. Ryker and Viggo kept the dragons they captured to harvest materials like the nadders' spines or gronkle iron and probably more. they used the flightmare for Dragon Eye fuel. AND they let Heather keep Windshear. it honestly couldn't have been that fucking hard to give his men some damn gronkles or something. but no.
fifth, he obviously doesn't know shit about night furies for someone who's hunted them for a large chunk of his life. "they can't fly very far" then there's Toothless flying damn near across the entire archipelago with no rest, "they can't handle cold temperatures" and here's Toothless sitting in the artic for an hour or so because of the Snow Wraith and living on Berk for like 6 years, which is apparently freezing half the year. Grimmel HAD to have been tripping on some venom to actually believe that, especially since HE HUNTED THEM. he had no clue how they operate aside from the fact they're black, fast, and look like cats. he was ridiculous and it's a damn surprise one of those other dragon hunters didn't slap him across his horse-ass face for saying that.

Test run of sharing my fanfics to people outside of my discord server. Enjoy.
Viggo woke up with a start, sweat beading down his face as the nightmare was still fresh in his mind. It was a typical nightmare that he’s been having since Krogan’s betrayal. He was back in the cave, the entrance completely caved in as it all came tumbling down towards him…he’d try to run, but it was like his feet were caught in Death Song Amber, gluing him to the ground as he looked up to see the rocks falling right towards him. There was no Monstrous Nightmare to save him in these nightmares, he had truly been left alone to die.
His own restlessness didn't go unnoticed, as the giant mound next to him slowly sat up, a soft groan of effort as the older man next to him leaned over to put an arm on his back.
“Another nightmare? Viggo, darling, this is the third one this week. If you need someone to talk to..”
“I’m fine, I’m not going to let some nightmare get the best of me.” Viggo interrupted, turning his head to actually see the man to his left. Gobber held such a worried and concerned look at the younger man, it made Viggo feel…vulnerable, and he didn’t know how to react to being so vulnerable. Back in his own village, such feelings of vulnerability were seen as weakness and not good for business, but that’s not his life anymore.
So much had happened in the years since he last saw anyone of Berk, he properly tamed his Skrill (which he named Shockwave), built a new dragon eye, discovered new lands with strange dragons, and lastly, he developed a relationship with the old blacksmith. Some days he wondered how he ended up with such a kind Viking like Gobber, there was just something about him that made Viggo feel…safe.
Ever since he was blinded in his left eye, he’s made it a habit of listening for footsteps and keeping his guard up, but for Gobber, it was different. He was the first Viking Viggo willingly let stay on his left side, and the first where he felt safe enough to not spin around as if someone was going to stab him.
“Viggo? Are you listening?” Gobber’s voice pulled Viggo out of his own head, a big, yet gentle hand touched his cheek and tenderly rubbed the burn scars from the lava. Leaning into the touch, Viggo let out a deep sigh as he briefly shut his eyes to enjoy this rare, tender moment.
“I’m sorry, darling, I’ve just had a lot on my mind this morning,” Viggo said with a softness in his voice that he didn’t even recognize.
Gobber just shook his head as he continued to hold Viggo’s face with his remaining hand, “Those nightmares really make you a different person. You know, you don’t have to stay strong all the time anymore, it’s okay to need help on an emotional level, hun.”
He was doing it again, he was speaking with such wisdom and such care that it made Viggo wonder how did this Viking even come to existence? Gobber had so many scars covering his body, was missing half his limbs, and had a stone tooth which always caught him off guard when they kissed, but the blacksmith was as gentle as he was strong.
“I’m…sorry, my dear, I’m just not used to having someone care for me. These are uncharted waters, relationship wise, throughout my whole life, I’ve never really felt love the way I feel around you.”
Viggo watched as Gobber smiled and leaned in for a kiss, his chapped lips were only in contact with his own before he pulled away.
“You’re my first boyfriend, Viggo. You’re the first person I’ve ever had on a real relationship, and I wouldn’t want to change that for anything.”
Something about his words tugged at Viggo’s normally cold heart, maybe it was what he said, or maybe how he said it, but he felt his guard go down for the first time in a while as something warm rolled down his face.
“Now, Viggo, are you ready to talk about these nightmares? They might stop if you let someone know what’s bothering you.”
Leaning to the left to rest his head on Gobber’s chest, Viggo shut his eyes tight as he readied himself to open up to the man he loved. It felt so unnatural, yet calming.
“I was in the cave again…the cave Krogan and Johann tried to kill me in…”

Skrill! Krogan Redesign
His tail and skink stripes change color according to his moods. (Thank you @lilliths-httyd-blog for that one.) also, Random lol headcanon, A skrill having brown eyes is extremely rare and Krogan is pretty much… unique.
Krogan has been told his fate. Failure, while unnecessary, makes him disposable. So he’s handed off to someone else. Someone who turns him into something more useful to auction off. A Skrill. Huge money for that. Only problem is, there’s a auction crasher. Viggo Grimborn and his own Skrill, crash the auction, not only taking the few dragons that were being sold, but the giant Skrill that towers over his own. The one that has to almost be the size of a titanwing.
Only thing is… the dragon acts… really weird. He doesn’t act like a dragon, and Viggo swears the Skrill is trying to communicate with him like a human- trying to speak, but with an inhuman tongue, there is no way for him to do so. Viggo christens the beast Wobbles, due to the fact that the Skrill has trouble getting around like a normal dragon- Viggo just deems it that this particular dragon has something neurologically wrong with him.
Not that the dragon is literally a man in the body of a dragon. And that he’s very pissed about being “named” Wobbles.
H(Viggo’s really bad at naming things okay)

Serotonin Booster :D 🐉
How to train your dragon edition
Here are some things I had forgotten or little details I just noticed on my rewatch, maybe even Unpopular Opinions 🤭👀
✨Race to the Edge✨
SEASON 6
I love how the twins were basically the reason Hiccup figured out that Johan was the spy
NOOO THE WAY GOTHI WENT TO TRY AND STOP STOICK FROM THROWING AWAY HER MEDICINE AND THEN GOT THROWN OFF THE CLIFF WAS SO FUNNY [ep2]
Omg that fight between Hiccup and Stoick in ep2 was crazy whenever Stoick said "I'm talking to the expert in getting duped by Trader Johan" and THEN HICCUP WAS LIKE "but I was only duped for half as long as you were. So what does that make you?"
Awww the way both Toothless and Skull-crusher were trying to get them to talk
And also Astrid being the only one that wasn't caught by the Hunters right away, she's just superior bro
I love how both of them were right - Stoick was right to not trust the merchants and Hiccup was right about Johan's plan
Toothless is actually so strong like he's not only agile and clever, I mean he just flew up to the ballista and crashed against it and destroyed it without using his Plasma Blast 😎🤩
Mala and Dagur fighting over where the Dragon Eye lenses are gonna be hidden is hilarious. Mala is so calm I love it
I got chills when Atali was like "no, Hiccup, this is my island I will defend it"
I really want to know the origin of the Wingmaidens, like where did all these women come from? How come they're still there?
I love Minden and Snotlout's relationship, the way he tried to convince her to not give up AND SHE KISSED HIM!!!
Krogan's Singetail actually cares about him
Never gonna get over Adelaide Kane voicing Mala
Also Snotlout running when the dude had the razorwhip on him LIKE HE WAS LITERALLY FLYING AND HE WAS STILL RUNNING Y'ALL HAVE TO WATCH THAT SCENE I JUST DONT KNOW HOW TO DESCRIBE IT ITS IN EP3
Generations ago Fishlegs's ancestors were dragon hunters
The Loyal Order of Ingerman - decimated the Dramillion dragons, pushing them to the brink of extinction
Grump is amazing I love him
Dramillions - have both a lava blast and a magnesium blast. Omnivores. Still being hunted.
The Hunters were founded by Ingar Ingerman
The Dramillion trying to take the manacle off his tail🥺
And when Fishlegs threw his helmet and THEN THE HAND THING 😭🥺
I love the Dramillions they're so smart they learned how to get rid of the manacles by just looking at what Meatlug and Stormfly were doing 🥺
I just realized that the twins are 19 AND I FIND THAT ABSOLUTELY CRAZY HOW CAN THEY BE THAT OLD
I really wish we knew each of their birthdays like I wanna know which one's older and which one's younger
I feel like for some reason the twins would be the oldest ones then Fishlegs then Astrid then Snotlout and lastly Hiccup. Idk I'm still iffy on this
Most Thorstons don't make it to 19
I love the twins' relationship, they love each other so much that they would rather be alone and not form part of a clan than leave each other alone and the fact that other people know this too? Plsss like the only reason Gruffnut got them back into the fake induction trials was by telling them how bad it'd be for each other to not be part of a clan.
Titanwing Zippleback HOW DO THEY KNOW ITS A TITANWING IT LOOKS THE SAME AS THE OTHER ZIPPLEBACKS
"Ughh, what's the point of winning alone? Being a Thorston means nothing without him. We are one Thorston."
I love them and also technically Ruffnut won the induction trials.
THE LAST LENSE GOSH
Love how Fishlegs cares about global warming
I'm all Snotlout, Toothless and the Triple Stryke reacting to Mala and Dagur- I'm also Mala whenever someone tickles me I'LL KILL U
UGHHH I HATE HOW SNOTLOUT MADE HICCSTRID UNCOMFY FOR HAVING A DIFFERENT RELATIONSHIP
Astrid overthinking 🥺😭
"How would you like your yak cooked?" JSHDHHA
bro I love how both Tuff and Toothless noticed the betrothal necklace
"So want to deliver some scrap metal?" Hiccup baby? Why are you so oblivious?
At least he asked her if she was alright in the armorwing's island 😩
No but if I was Astrid I'd be pissed too, the dude saw a dragon eye lens from far way and didn't notice her betrothal necklace? 🙂😤
No I can't that scene was too harsh to watch, I mean I loved to see Hiccup noticing something was wrong with Astrid but then the way Astrid compared their relationship to Mala and Dagur's and then threw him the betrothal necklace... And the way he caught it too I can't- 😭😞😖😭😓🤧
Seeing the twins trying to capture Mala was hilarious JAHDHDHHSHA
I love how when they're fighting Astrid's still there for him whenever he's expected to have all the answers. She ignored her anger and went over to him and grabbed his hand and that single thing was what gave him confidence in a moment of panic 🥺
"I'm with you"
"I know"
That final Hiccstrid scene in Mi Amore Wing was just too perfect, we have Hiccup grabbing Astrid's hand to bring her outside and talk to her, the sunset in the background, every little thing Hiccup told her about being there for her and loving her with everything he had and that he should've noticed the necklace right away AND THEN THAT KISS WAS JUST AMAZING❗️❗️❗️ it was passionate and sweet and Astrid was blushing and then Fishlegs was all uncomfortable and Mala was like "okaaayyyyy😏" and Dagur like "alrighhtttt👌🏼" ig the only thing I didn't like is that Astrid didn't say I love you back 😭 but it's ok cause yk she does I just wished she had said it.
Baby razorwhips love the water
Tuffnut named the baby razorwhip that bonded with Ruffnut, Wingnutt
Top scenes of Ruff Transition ep7
Tuffnut throwing up in Ruffnut's mouth and Ruffnut throwing up in Wingnutt's mouth just do that he could be fed- seeing the windmaiden's reactions is the best lmao
Hiccup trying to teach Ruffnut how to fly (with his dragon flight suit) and then Ruffnut losing balance but Hiccup helping her regain it BUT we still get overprotective Tuffnut jumping off of Toothless to try and help but all he did was make things worse HIS SCREAM WAS HILARIOUS nonono and the way Toothless tried to help BUT AGAIN MADE THINGS WORSE 😩😮‍💨😂
Ruffnut finally figuring out how to connect with Wingnutt and fighting the dragon hunters and saving Atali was so badass and then Atali riding Barf 😭🤩
Hiccstrid kiss count (approximately) : 6😘
The way he slightly and carefully touches her face to reassure her that he'll be fine
The Singetail's only predator is the Skrill
The Berserkers used to use metal daggers to lure Skrills into traps. The dragon is drawn to it due to its electrical properties
VIGGO JUST DID THE HAND THING THING WITH THE SKRILL WTF
If I could have any dragon it'd be in this order
Skrill - it's so badass and powerful
Nightfury - it's badass, powerful, pretty, strong and fast
Deadly Nadder - it's extremely fast and agile, has multiple attacks and the spikes
Dramillion - has multiple attacks and is very smart
Just realized that ep8 is called Triple Cross because 1st Johan crossed Viggo 2nd Viggo fake crossed Hiccup and 3rd Viggo and Hiccup crossed Johan and Kogan
That episode was basically jusr to show Viggo's arc and the way he changed for the better and learned to respect dragons
That's why the Singetails wouldn't leave in ep9 whenever they were trying tp free the Deathsong- their eggs! They're in that island.
I can't with Hiccup and Astrid sitting together just chilling but with Astrid feeling guilty and Hiccup assuring her that he was also at fault 😭
I love Narrator/Author Snotlout! The titles of the chapters of his book remind me of the ones from Pjo
Stoick and Skullcrusher acting as 1 and being worried about each other 🥺 I love their relationship
Also the way Stoick bats off the shots from the Singetails with his axe just like Astrid. They're both truly warriors
No but Toothless asking for a head scratch from Gobber bc he's worried abt both Hiccup and Stoick🥺
The way Toothless tried to make Hiccup feel better- I mean the man blamed himself for putting Stoick in "his deathbed" it was just so awful seeing Hiccup in that state and the way everyone was trying to make him feel better but it was ultimately Astrid who managed to get through to him😭
I love it when they put scenes of the movies
I love how Astrid always knows what to say without lying
Looks like it's you and me, then.
Always... was that corny or-
Probably. Nice, though.
The way Astrid is so natural at being a leader and putting everyone on their places 🤩
That lil moment they had in ep12 where he holds her face and thanks her for everything and I just love them too much 😭
I love how Spitelout is so happy when he's beating ass, this dude literally goes "I'm sure I've had more fun than this. But at the moment, I can't remember when"
Have I mentioned I love the Dramillions before? I love them way too much they're amazing and the sound they make is so 😩 I love it
The Dramillion is a distant cousin of the Changewing which means the Titanwing Dramillion shares the de-cloaking ability with its subspecies.
Stormfly's spine clone was literally so badass, my girl was surrounded and she finished every single dragon flyer with it. Badass move. Wish we had seen it more throughout the series
It really pissed me off that Hiccup had to choose between getting Tuff, Ruff and Snotlout out of that sinking ship when he could've been following Krogan. Like ofc it was the right decision but that wouldn't have happened if the twins and Snotlout didn't follow Gruff into the ship :/
I love how strong Barf and Belch are! They literally carried the a Titanwing Dramillion on their own.
That scene when they figured out that the Titanwing Dramillion is not the King of Dragons but instead the last piece of the puzzle to get to the King of Dragons
When the Wingmaidens got to the battle it was amazing
Also the way Dagur was so proud that the King of Dragons was a Berserker and how Ruff was so excited to see Wingnutt and Snotlout to see Minden🥺
THEY REALIZED THAT BBYS AREN'T AFFECTED BY THE KING OF DRAGONS BC OF THE BABY RAZORWHIPS
that last Hiccstrid Scene where Hiccup is worried about Astrid's safety- I mean his face 🥺🥺🥺 and she told him that his dad would be proud and that she's proud too and when she was about to leave he held her back and kissed her 😭😭
Ik I said this before but I simp for Astrid as a leader, she's just so natural at it
Also I love how the King of Dragons has ice powers instead of fire
WAIT SO IS THE EGG THAT HICCUP FINDS IN THE FINALE THAT THEY GIVE TO VALKA IS THAT THE KING OF DRAGONS THAT VALKA CARES FOR IN HTTYD2?!!
Valka being friends with the Wingmaidens sits absoluteky right with me
no but the way Toothless hesitated when Hiccup told him to leave him and get the egg
I love how all the dragons arrived to fight the dragon flyers, it was just so poetical to me, the dragons finally getting to fight the people that hurt them 🤩
I FINISHED IT AND NOW I'M SAD!!! I loved the end tho and I'm glad we got to see Shattermaster at Dagur's wedding, also Astrid's outfit change- we love that. And them leaving the edge is just so sad bro 😭but I love how we got to see some "insight" ig u could call it on HTTYD2 😭 also seeing Snotlout and Fishlegs's love for Ruffnut start forming was hilarious

About Dragons the nine realms
I wantched the first Episodes of the new series on free TV here in Germany and I found some interesting facts. Alex Gonzalez has two ( lesbian) mothers. I never thought that they would bring this in a kid series. They seemed even married, cause they had both the surname “Gonzalez”. In the following Episodes some of the dragons of the original Dragons series made an apperance. A monstrous Nightmare, who looks very much like Hookfang, a lot of Terrible Terrors, the Skrill, was again the “bad guy”-dragon. And today one of my favourites, the Fireworms! But without a queen. Pity is only that they dont know the Names the Vikings once gave them. I really wished they would have a menthor, I would vote for Viggo Grimborn. He could been have sent from Valhalla to look after these kids and he could have a second identity as a professor and scholar for the kids in the school of the base.
Edit: Todays Episode was about a catastrophic quaken mother and some gronkles who stole their eggs.

HTTYD Antagonists - Worst To Best
I’m basing this ranking on how well written the antagonists are, and not how threatening. I’m also not counting secondary antagonists like Savage, Ryker and Krogan who were working for a more imposing threat. Same goes for the likes of Mildew and Johann.
Sixth Place: Grimmel the Grisly
In theory, a villain who shows what Hiccup could have been had he gone down a darker path is compelling. In practice, we got a cliche wannabe chess-master, whose plans don’t make sense when you stop to think about them, and only work at all because every other character is holding an idiot ball. He’s a textbook example of intent failing in execution.
Final score: 2 vials of Macguffin Juice out of 10
Fifth Place: Red Death
The Red Death isn’t badly written, it just isn’t really written at all. Unlike the others it’s not a character; it’s a plot device, the HTTYD equivalent of a kaiju, the Final Boss. Yet it’s still responsible for centuries of war and suffering, motivated purely by greed, and that makes it one of the most threatening antagonists in the series. It’s more down here by default.
Final score: 4 volcanoes out of 10
Fourth Place: Alvin the Treacherous
Now things are getting tricky. None of the remaining antagonists are badly written, per se, so it’s more down to personal preference. I always found Alvin to be the least compelling of the TV villains. He just doesn’t have the same panache as the others. In his favour, the other characters are never made to act stupid in order for his schemes to succeed at all.
Final score: 5 Outcast Longships out of 10
Third Place: Drago Bludvist
Don’t get me wrong, Drago is absolutely one of the most threatening villains. He’d be in first place if this only counted the movies. Yet much like the Red Death, he exists more to be a plot device than a fully fleshed out character. His motivation boils down to “dragons destroyed my home so I want to rule the world”, which is a pretty big leap in logic, really.
Final score: 7 bull hooks out of 10
2nd Place: Dagur the Deranged
He’s probably the most ‘fun’ villain of the series, unpredictable and dangerous because of it, like the Joker in Batman. You get the sense that he’s a bully desperately trying to push everyone else down so that they never realise there’s only one of him. As a villain he was compelling to watch because it’s amusing to watch him trying to get Hiccup to notice him.
Final score: 8 Skrills out of 10
1st Place: Viggo Grimborn
This is the only antagonist that’s genuinely morally grey, and he’s extremely threatening. He’s a proper foil and nemesis to Hiccup, who defeated the other antagonists because they had to be stopped, but Viggo made it personal. He drove his rival to the point of obsession just to get one over on him. He manipulates people for fun. He’s not just a hunter, he’s a predator.
Final score: 10 Magic Holoprojectors out of 10

Viggo Grimborn for the character thing
hell yeah! >:3
(oops this got long)
Fav thing about them: this has been said a million times im sure, but he’s just such an interesting character (especially compared to the other villains). i’ve ranted about it already on ig but he and hiccup bring out new sides to each other and i just love that so much. we see both of them lose their cool over their obsession with the other so much so that other characters (ryker and astrid/the other riders) have to actually pull them back and tell them to chill. for once in the series hiccup is actually challenged by his enemy, and loses and gets frustrated over it (that scream at the end of maces & talons..oofie) and it just makes the series take a totally different tone and i love it!!! after triple cross it just goes downhill so quickly and we’re right back to hiccup outsmarting his enemies and beating them effortlessly and it’s just so …boring.
Least fav thing: 1) as much as i loooove triple cross, i really wish we could have seen more of good!viggo. i don’t genuinely want to change canon just because i feel like it works perfectly as is, but good!viggo is such a fun concept that we never really got to see in canon. but oh well, that’s what aus are for. 2) the shit quality animation of rtte and the overall art style honestly makes him (and a lot of other characters, especially the villains) look more like a little kid’s action figure than a cold-blooded killer. i mean it’s not so bad, he’s still intimidating compared to other characters, i just find it funny.
Fav Line: that part in triple cross when he’s saying “thaaat’s right” to the skrill make my pee pee hard. but also for a somewhat more serious answer, one of my favs is: viggo: “dagur did you do what i told you to do with the prisoner?” dagur: “of course! but i’m still thinking that-” viggo: “stop thinking. all thinking has been done, you simply need to do what you’re told, follow orders. can you do that?” it’s just so god damn patronizing and passive aggressive and the line delivery along with his animations was just perfect.
brOTP: vigcup and him/the skrill
OTP: vigcup
nOTP: hm. anything besides vigcup really. there just aren’t many characters he has a very interesting dynamic with.
Random headcanon: (viggo lives/dragon rider viggo au since that’s all i think about these days) i really desperately want to see him having the skrill as his dragon if he were to become a dragon rider. i’m not sure how that would work out bc of the skrill’s whole lightning deal, but i’m too attached to the idea to let it go, especially considering he died alongside it in canon. it’s only right, i feel like, and i can’t think of any other dragons that would fit him nicely.
Unpopular opinion: everything about him is just really funny to me. now that i’ve finished the series, i’m at the point where i just make fun of my favorite characters as much as possible. so him stealing all of hiccups inventions? hilarious. his introduction being a dramatic monologue about morals and chess? also hilarious. idiot probably had been planning that out word for word well in advance. viggo sitting there in the cage, crouched under a cloth just waiting for hiccup to uncover him so he can prank him? him ordering his little bondage boy hiccup be delivered to him tied up and with a chain around his neck like a collar? him being locked up in baby jail by a bunch of 18 yr olds? viggo grimborn canonically pissing (“snotlout was good enough to allow me to use the facilities”)? all extremely fuckin funny.
Song I associate: i coulda sworn i had a song that reminded me of viggo/vigcup but i really cant remember what it was or if it was for a diff character, so for now i got nothin :(
Fav Pic:
Tumblr media
i have too many good pics of him saved on my phone to pick just one so i’ll choose this instead
