(The TLDR was that Girl Meets World was a show that HEAVILY easter egged to foreshadow what would happen later in the series. This was in the background characters they used, the clothing they wore, constant callbacks to the original Boy Meets World show. They also used false parallels. The point of the show was to trick you into thinking that the GMW characters were direct counterparts of the BMW characters, except as the show goes on, we see that this isn't exactly true and that the characters want and need different things. One of the biggest themes is reality vs perception. Unfortunately, the show was cancelled before the characters were able to break out of their false perceptions. Anyway all this to say, Taylor is currently doing VERY similar things with her fanbase on PERCEPTION vs REALITY, and both works of art have very similar easter egging styles. Nothing is a coincidence)

The thing that sets Shawn X Cory apart from most other boy best friends in sitcoms with gay undertones, is that while a lot of their romantic coded moments are played for laughs, there's also plenty of examples of romantic coded moments that aren't played for laughs.
Also, maybe it's just me, but all the gay jokes combined with the serious moments (I.E Shawn's outburst at Cory’s wedding) not to mention the fact that in GMW Cory seems to strongly prefer Shawn over Topanga, it all gives off strong that-friend-who-makes-one-too-many-taking-a-bath-with-a-toaster-jokes vibes. Like at a certain point, you have to go, "Are we still joking or is this a cry for help?"

that's definitely an interesting take on the descendants series. i don't agree with everything you said, but i do think they did a good job with mal's character arc overall. i had no problem with ben and mal getting engaged young since it feels very authentic to the fairy tale world.
i love all of the references to the disney characters too. i always cry at the final shot of d3. such a good send off for the core four!
oh, oops. didn't mean to give you such a difficult question.
it's great that you relate to so many liv and maddie characters. no wonder you love the show so much! i feel like i relate the most to joey rooney for reasons. oh yeah that episode of girl meets world was super relatable. i like when disney channel shows tackle real challenges for teens and the bullying plot line in this was a good example. it was a great episode to see riley embracing her quirkiness. i can relate to mal too. that imposter syndrome is a nightmare sometimes.
i definitely think my answers would give away far too much, but i sort of answered some in my responses to yours so i'm going to count that.
i'll try to ask an easier question next. who are your favorite characters from sky high? do you ship any of the characters together? and if you could have a super power, which power would you want to have? ⛄
the fact that you like mal's character arc is the most important lol.
it's ok! if anything, it forced me to think and gave me a new perspective on some of those characters so im glad you asked that!
im glad you feel the same way about the gmw ep too. like...not glad that you can relate to the bullying lol but glad you get my perspective cuz it kinda sucked when so many people were making fun of it.
quite honestly, i've only seen sky high a couple times, i do really like it tho! im gonna say the girl who can turn into a guinea pig is my fav bc i love animals lol. ik a lot of people ship warren and will and as ive said i love a good grumpy character/bubbly character (not that will is "bubbly" per se but you know what i mean) so i can get down with that. will and layla are cute too. hmm i think id want the power of teleportation, what about you? and feel free to answer all of those questions if you dont think itll be a giveaway lol.

‘Boy Meets World’ Re-watch (as an Adult)
‘Girl Meets World’ doesn’t count as a sequel. Not because of the writing/tonal choices but because in the original show - despite continuity issues - the characters felt like real people e.g. the way they spoke/acted/dressed was the way people behaved in the 90s where as in the spin off, they were Disney characters e.g. hyper versions of themselves especially Cory and Eric. And the transition between both shows didn’t come naturally. It’s not an objectivity badly written show but it was pretty much a re-do of the old show with the same storylines/tropes without continuing the story. (I say the same thing about ‘The Incredibles’. vs ‘Incredibles 2’.) Also there were too many cooks in the kitchen pushing one way or another. You could see Micheal Jacobs style, all the aspects were there, but he was also creating a ‘DISNEY’ show at the same time. I don’t know about you but the one message I took from the original show was ‘finding out that life cannot be packenged into a lovely little present ’ which kind of contradicts everything that the new show is. If anything GMW is an AU universe (and it really felt like that, rewatching it right after BMW e.g. it felt flipped) almost like Disney’s version of ‘what happened next?’ The primal difference between both shows is BMW is portraying what is real and GMW is based on what is real.
Going off my point, I will however be always thankful that it exists because I probably wouldn’t of found out about ‘Boy Meets World’ otherwise. Although saying that, I never thought that the original show needed a continuation of any kind (a lot of things make sense about the spin off if you acknowledge that Disney requested it - I think it would of been much better off on its original platform) ‘Boy Meets World’ was very much a product of its time i.e. when tv shows were still relevetivley new and had no rules - like there is stuff in there that not even adult shows today have. Plus there was something about it that felt very personal (such as the characters and setting) as if the creator based it on his own childhood growing up and I think that was part of its charm and why it had such a big effect on pop culture - I’m not so sure you can repeat that.
BMW is big on meta I’ll tell you that. I love how it’s so aware of itself. The amount of depth that it has never ceases to amaze me. It’s whole universe is so dense and huge. Every quote/storyline is so unique it sticks in your brain forever. (I swear the humour got more and more deranged every season). The show was also incredibly queer and progressive.  It didn’t give a crap about sexuality. Much more than I remember. Proof to never use ‘but it was made in the 90s’ excuse.
I loved how the show kept reinventing itself every season as Cory grew up so you really felt you were growing up with him and all the characters. The Character Development on this show was so natural/authentic. Every single character got a chance to shine. No one changed their look in one episode and no one had an intervention every time someone had an identity crisis (GMW) My favourite development was Shawn Hunter. He went from a cool kid to a ladies man to a poetic soul. It was so satisfying to watch.
I realised that Cory Matthews is actually my favourite character (before it was Eric or Shawn) I already have a special soft spot for ‘annoying’ characters because they tend to be the most memorable/real. For example, Karma Ashcroft from ‘Faking it’ was my babe while everyone was hating on her. I really related to his anxiety/self hatred about being average and I loved that he constantly made mistakes. It was very refreshing. He’s also incredibly queer-coded. I found that alot of his mannerisms make sense if you see him with extreme compulsory heterosexuality (because identity’s such as bisexual or gay couldn’t exist normally in the 90s) There are moments in the show where he literally mimics his best friend’s behaviour around girls e.g. when the class pretty much gets brainwashed by the sex ed video in ‘Boy Meets Girl’ Shawn gets asked out by a girl, making Cory jealous - which pushes him to ask out Topanga.
It’s funny how a few years of life experience can change perspectives completely because when I was sixteen (aka the same age as Cory and Topanga) watching BMW for the first time, I was mad at Amy for ‘not understanding that they were in love’ (in ‘A Walk to Pittsburg’) but now that I’m older I’m actually agreeing with her. Yeah, what do they know about love? Because all season long they were acting quite superficially.
Cory and Topanga became somewhat of a toxic couple in seasons 5 -7. Reminded me of my parents relationship because my mum gave up her chosen university to be closer to my dad and they aren’t together any more. Topanga’s love for Cory was very conditional and Cory cheated on her multiple times/openly begged for sex  (Again like my parents) And you should never be in a relationship with someone who makes you say “You make me think not so very much of myself” There are arguably much more signs of emotional abuse than love in their relationship especially from Topanga’s side. Plus their story was altered so many times to give it more basis (they retconned Shawn and Cory’s friendship to do this) I could write an essay on how Kevin and Winnie’s love story on ‘The Wonder Years’ is much more believable because it actually addresses how toxic it was and they grow apart in the end. If GMW was a realistic continuation, they would be divorced with a little girl - leave them in the 90s where they belong.
Alan and Amy were couple goals! Cory and Topanga wish that they could have what they have. Literally the definition of ‘a healthy relationship on tv that keeps thriving and over coming obstacles without big drama’. Best TV parents ever.
I loved the Matthews family; how they all had individual arcs and developments of their own. One of my favourite arcs was in season 5, when Eric and Cory were both jealous of what they ‘didn’t have’ with their dad, so Alan made an effort to give them both that they needed. Honestly, I had never seen so much healthy communication on TV before. Alan is the best father around. His whole personal arc of giving up managing a supermarket because he wasn’t passsionate about it anymore and buying a mountain store was so inspired. I found it funny that the family had more of a relationship with Shawn than Topanga.
Shawn Hunter never caught a break. It got a bit tiring. He was never allowed to be happy for five minutes. Every time he laughed or smiled, 5 years were added onto my lifespan. Why didn’t Johnathan Turner adopt him? I loved their dynamic. Why did he let him go back to his abusive father who just dumped him anyway?
Jack and Shawn’s complicated dynamic was possibly the most unique/interesting arc of the entire show and no one talks about it. I don’t care what y’all say - despite them being very different, Jack was the only one who fully took care of Shawn without second thoughts (Turner and the Matthews family had doubts)
I liked Shawn and Angela. I thought they were much better suited than Cory and Topanga. I honestly wouldn’t of minded if they ended up together even though I always had a feeling they wouldn’t. (Like I’m glad she went with her dad in the end) And considering how important they were as a interracial couple in the 90s, GMW handled that very poorly.
Shawn and Cory should of ended up together. And before you come at me with ‘it’s important to have m/m friendships without toxic masculinity’ (which is an important arguement to have) - yeah no shit there’s an entire Industry based around that/pitting women against each other. While it is important to have those friendships between men that are close and even intimate (take Chandler and Joey, Schmidt and Nick, Isak and Jonas and Jake and Charles for example) there was also another layer to their relationship which the narrative played off sometimes as them “going out” or “in love”.  I actually recently found out that a writer - who came into the show in season 3 - confirmed that she wrote gay undertones into their relationship on purpose ‘In my opinion as a writer, they thought they were “straight”, they both didn’t realise or understand their feelings for eachother’ but couldn’t deliever because the producers wanted to keep the show “kid friendly”. Kind of like Xena and Gabby. I know people prefer Jack & Eric (I love them as well) but everything got ruined for me as soon as they introduced the ‘love triangle’ and I always tend to prefer emotional tension over sexual. They were just so unconditional with each other/ their friendship was so good and healthy and now I’m so bitter that it never happened.
I never understood why Shawn and Cory had to stop being best friends after he got married. He’s not Topanga’s property. I always hated how Topanga tried to interrupt/interfere with their dynamic — although now I realise it was because the two of them purposely left her out. Looking back at it, If it really was just a intimate friendship then why would she get so easily jealous if she didn’t sense there was something else deeper going on? You should never marry someone who puts you second.
I didn’t like Topanga when she was with Cory (or vice versa) Especially after they got married. She was a great character on her own. Feminist before her time. Hermione Granger before her time. I always felt she deserved a lot better than him in a way e.g. if someone I considered a friend speard a rumour around high school that we slept together - I would never speak to that person again. SHE SHOULD OF GONE TO YALE GOD DAMN IT. And as someone pointed out the other day, if the roles were reversed some of the stuff she does or says to Cory would be considered domestic violence. ‘She’s always blaming Cory on shit that isn't even his fault or makes him feel bad or shuts down his emotions and turns it around so he's comforting her instead.’ There was even a moment in GMW (not that I consider that show a continuation) where she locks him out the house for a few days after he insulted her chicken, and his son Auggie had to bring him spaghetti. If Cory was a woman, that would not be played off as a joke - that would be considered abuse. They were however a better couple in GMW ironically.
Angela Moore is now one of my favourite characters on BMW. She was beautiful. Her friendship with Rachel (and Topanga) was the best. And I frickin’ loved her and Cory’s friendship development - when they could of easily not played into that. I hate that she got villiaized in GMW.
My favourite seasons are 4, 5 & 1. My least favourites are 3 & 2 & 7. And even then the show was still pretty darn good.
The back and fourth clash between Turner and Mr Feeny in season 2 was very entertaining.
Mr Feeny and Eric are my favourite relationship on ‘Boy Meets World’. I love how Eric was the only person that Feeny directly told that he loved him. Also, why didn’t Eric become the new Mr Feeny? He showed more traits of becoming a teacher in the show than Cory did.
Eric and Tommy was probably the most heartbreaking plot line in season 6. (That season was an emotional train wreck) I cried for a fourth time. The world doesn’t deserve him.
I loved the development of Shawn and Topanga’s friendship. Even though there was a silent competition over Cory, they eventually became good friends. I found out that the song ‘She will be loved’ was inspired by them which is awesome but it’s also proof that people ship for less if it’s an m/f dynamic - just sayin’. I however see a more convincing potiental romance with the two of them than Cory and Topanga sometimes.
On Cory and Topanga again - they weren’t a bad couple overall. I liked them in s1 - 3. They had some great moments. But upon my rewatch (getting out of that 90s idealised headspace) I found them to be too similar at times - chafing as another person put it - to the point where they cancel each other out. A lot of people pointed out that Riley and Maya paralleled them and I was thinking “That’s not nesserily a good thing.”
‘Dream. Try. Do good.’ is on my mantelpiece.

Did a rewatch of BMW and
I used to think Cory and Topanga were relationship goals but I changed my mind. Maybe it's me being older, maybe it's me being in a healthy and happy relationship, Idk. But overall, Cory was a huge asshole. To Topanga, to Shawn, to Eric, to Alan, to Amy... I swear to everything, he was an asshole. Constantly saying hurtful things to people who he's supposed to love. Examples include him taking "honesty" too far with Topanga to the point of just being cruel, him making Alan feel like shit by calling him "average", literally calling Shawn "trailer trash" in the wedding episode, etc. There are literally so many examples and I'm tempted to do another rewatch just to list them all. And literally all of the incidents? He doesn't apologize for any of them. All of them deserved way better than Cory. Also continues in GMW.

The hidden rules of TKEM and why understanding it will help you understand the show.
The rules of TKEM and why understanding it will help you get the show.
Tumblr media
Being in the TKEM is so reminiscent of the first time I realised how deep shows could be and how cunning their creators are when forming a whole new universe/rabbit hole to fall into. My first ever show to do this for me was the Disney show in America called Girl meets world. I remembered how much we hated at first the first season, how we cringed at the plot lines, the quotes and the whole meta aspect of the show. I remember the first time I noticed the gateway, a couple which was so secretly hidden in subtext that kept jumping at me and in my need to understand why I felt this way I went and researched other people’s thoughts on this. To my surprise other people felt the same way I did. In the next season we had the full plot twist, this couple had been in love with each other for at least 2 years, and no one knew. But once we understood the rules of this show, going back to season 1 felt like a slap in the face, it was there all along, the reason for why everything was confusing was done on purpose. Sorry for going of tangent, but that’s also what happened with me with TKEM episode 1-6. This was the show I waited for all year, I am obsessed with Kim Eun Sook, not even because of her deep writing but because of all the love stories I have been addicted to because of her. She knew how to make me be obsessed with a new world and she made Korea look so amazing. So, I waited and by the end of episode 6 I was devastated I couldn’t understand certain choices in this drama and it made me very depressed honestly. Until I finally noticed a gate way, I mistakenly stumbled like I always do into knowing one of the rules and then I fought to get to the bottom of it. And just like I was heavily tricked by GMW, TKEM did the same and I am so grateful I didn’t stop watching it. So, for all of you confused about the show, here are some things that could help you understand this show even more. I call them the rules that the show seems to be following. Everything is done on purpose. Let’s begin:
Why TKEM is so confusing
Tumblr media
1.      The confusing storytelling and jarring world building and Taeul’s polarising character.
This was hard for me during episode 1-4. I remember sitting there wondering why on earth everything was so confusing, nonlinear, and why it felt rushed. I understood that KES stories can sometime feel like this, no plot at first before she hits you with the reveal. But this story felt odd and didn’t pick up the plot until episode 6. I also why watching things in Gon’s POV was so confusing, why did he know so much and yet so little? Why did we not understand why he was acting the way he did. Until I finally got the first rule, the story isn’t in Gon’s POV. The story is narrated by our Present Taeul who’s reminiscing about the story whilst she interrogates Lee Lim. This is the first scene we are introduced to in episode 1. That’s because we’re in a flash back being narrated by Taeul. As Taeul in our current episode figures out more about the two worlds, the mythology and the plans Lee Lim has we get more information then. Remember in the first episode she is really confused by Gon, she refuses to believe in the world, and everything feels to bizarre. It’s the same way we feel about the show from those episodes, we feel frustrated she doesn’t believe Gon but at the same time we also find him so ridiculous.
I have another post about this but TKEM uses Alice in the wonderland as a base (GMW did this as well), it uses both books Alice in wonderland and through the looking glass. I had previously thought that because Gon is our main character, and he goes into the parallel world, he is our Alice. I was wrong. Taeul is our Alice in Wonderland. She also states it to Gon when she enters Corea the first time. When Alice first enters wonderland, she is confused by the bizarreness of Wonderland.  Just like again for the first 5 episodes we are, everything makes no sense, Gon speaks gibberish most of the time using mathematics and science, he’s also very annoying. This is because Taeul is flat earther, she believes in things that she can see, so the first introduction to Gon and other’s is simply crazy to her, she is adamant that its not true. So, we wait until she goes to Corea and finds out that everything is right. Once she explores Corea we finally start to see a linear storyline, we slowly start to understand more about other things like Lim’s goals, her real feelings for Gon, we finally get to start to notice that the show is withholding a lot of information and its slowly coming together. This is also because Taeul is trying to solve the murder mysteries connected to Lee Lim, as she learns more we also start to see more about his goals. She’s our source of information, she’s privy to some parts of the soul but only when she takes part in it. That’s why we don’t understand why Gon chased after the white rabbit it was so odd, because that’s all she knows he did. She also doesn’t know how time travel plays into this, so as Gon figures out about this, its because she’s also starting to recognise it too.
Tumblr media
This is also why time is so nonlinear to us. The flashbacks make no sense, some of the stuff like Fate (yoyo boy) are to cryptic for us to get. Taeul doesn’t yet know their part in this. I think its also why we don’t see a lot on Prime minister Koo either, because all Taeul probably knows about her at this point is the girl who wants to marry Gon for his throne and the girl who she admires for being in power. This also happened in GMW, the audience in the first season saw things through a 12-year-old girl’s perspective so everything felt cheesy, cringy, and nonsensical. It’s done on purpose, we the audience just like Taeul feel like Alice in wonderland, the more she gets to understand why the rabbit is running and is going to be late, the closer she gets to that trial at the end of the book, the more she grows up, the more the story starts to make sense. Taeul’s earth is no longer flat, things are now being pieced together so we also get to know more about that. Be Patient. The directing is done to make you think things are being overlooked, because Taeul is also overlooking important hints.
 2.      The directing is wacky. There are too many characters that are pointless.
Tumblr media
This is another thing that really annoyed me the first 6 episodes, the way the director uses the nonlinear timeline. Especially when we don’t have any information for why we should feel a certain way. An example of this is Taeul running into Gon’s arms when the whole episode she’s been hating and fighting with him or when she breaks down in episode 10 when he appears and kisses her before leaving. What we know is that this doesn’t make sense, we don’t understand what’s making her do this because we normally find out in a flashback of the first 25 minutes of the next episode. Because the next episode is always a week away. We the audience feel cheated and simply confused.
Funny thing about this is once you understand this show is about time travel. The director’s choices start to make sense, we have so many timelines already showing up, Gon can travel back in time, and forward, just like we the audience also end up doing. The normal ending of the even episodes is us in the future of Taeul’s narration before we are flung back into the past in the next episode to get what happened. It’s done-on purpose.
Another confusing thing about the show is the way the director shows us the two different worlds. This show is chucked with so many side characters, it’s like Goblin whenever he goes to help someone, or the grim reaper goes to take someone’s life. Unfortunately, while it worked for Goblin in a linear narrative, this show has the rule of two, there twice the same amount of characters we know, they have another parallel self in a different world. With the directing its hard to know when these worlds differ, we are always confused by the characters we don’t know where they belong to. But that’s because Taeul doesn’t know at that moment about Lee Lim’s plan to replace the dopple gangers, just as the two world are bleeding into each other (remember Eun Sup feeling the heat of the hot chocolate of Yeong on his iced tea), we get even more confused as to where everyone is from. That’s what Lee Lim is doing replacing everyone in a different world and making them become part of that world. The director does this by withholding information about the side characters so we just as Gon and Taeul are confused by who they are and why they are important in certain worlds. The director is doing this on purpose. Its meant to be confusing.
3.      The powers of the flute is so confusing. Lim’s plans make no sense and for the first 6 episodes he hides doing nothing but being ominous in the background.
Tumblr media
The title: The King Eternal Monarch
Points to consider:
·  The word eternity is defined as something that keeps on going on and on and doesn’t have an end. This is the biggest rule of the show, Gon is stuck in a cycle/loop where he must keep on ruling and fighting for the throne. This is what the show is about, that’s why the flute is so important, and unbreakable sword his father has gifted him. They are artefacts representing Gon’s plight to keep trying to control his reign. He’s the noble blood that’s fated to keep doing this repeatedly. So the question is how? We know this, it’s time travel. The first 6 episodes is about Gon learning about the powers of the flute, he recognises time is important, he recognises that the person who saves his life comes from the future, he knows that person is connected to Taeul because of her id card. He understands this because he understands science and maths, that’s why he speaks in scientific and mathematical terms at the beginning to Taeul. He was explaining what this show is, it’s a sci fi, its going to focus on sci fi themes such as time travel and parallel dimensions. From the beginning the show has explained using Gon’s lexicon that this is all about time travel, its about the character getting to the point where he must save himself again. Taeul is the reason why he’s doing this. That’s why she’s the person he searches for, for 25 years.
We have two people fighting for the throne to be king. Monarch is to do with the royal family and the control over a government. The fight for the throne is the whole plot of this show, just like in through the looking glass, Alice ends up mistakenly in a battle between the two queens, it’s the same thing. This is a battle for the monarchy, with two different people who have different reasons why they want the throne. Gon however is the king we know; this story is about him through Taeul’s eyes.
4.      The pointless conversations with characters and confusing scenes.
Tumblr media
Literature is used as devices used to help us understand what’s going
I already have posts on this, but each story mentioned, each book helps us understand and foreshadow this whole show. It also makes us understand more about the show. There are so many stories mentioned, the myth of the manchipasseok and the dragon king, (the flute), the wonderland series, King Arthur, the book about flowers (the book Lady Noh reads), the poem Gon reads  (Invoking the name of the dead), Greek mythology on the fates (the yo yo boy). Kim Eun Sook does this in all her fantasy stories, in secret Garden it was little mermaid but the man as the mermaid, in Goblin it was the mythology of the grim reaper and Goblin, the poem about first love etc… She does this to help the audience not feel cheated by the ending of the show, she already has told you what’s going to happen. This is exactly why the directing choices are the way they are, the plot is told the way it is. Each of our characters are connected to a tale. If you need to know more look at my posts about Things to know about TKEM to know where its going.
 5.      Their relationship is rushed and confusing.
Tumblr media
This is solved by knowing how the subtext and the mathematical references explains their relationship and why it’s so fast.
These are also used to tell you about the rules of the show. The maths theories are not my strengths, but these are so important. Gon has mentioned Taeul’s role in the story by telling her she represents the number zero when he confesses to her. He’s again reiterating that this story is happening because of her, she’s the most important factor in this whole show.  There’s so many mathematical references that I can’t analyse but if you’re able to do so, you’ll crack more about each of the characters especially why Taeul and Gon act the way they do.
There’s also subtext which everyone has been missing out on. I believe in the theory that our current timeline is not the first time Gon and Taeul have interacted. This is the reason why Taeul easily falls for him once he shows her evidence of his world. She already felt those feelings before, and she recognises it but she can’t explain why. Therefore, Gon instantly chases after Luna as the white rabbit without any explanation, something is making him do this, he’s used to doing this. I’ve spoken so much about Lady Noh and Buyeong also knowing about this too, they know Gon and Taeul have done this too many times, and they remember, why they do I don’t know. There’s also the red balloons I mentioned in the land of frozen time (the pink sky land that has no sun or rain) I think they represent how many times we’ve been through this loop before. If Gon and Taeul have known each other longer than centuries, it would explain why all he wants to do is find her, and why she easily accepts her fate to love him and be with him. The way they act shows you that subtext is important in understanding the show, why she moves away from his hug when he first approaches her like she’s expecting it, why she can’t stop thinking of him, why she talks about her tragic fate and then rapidly tells him she loves him so they speed up their relationship, why easily runs to him after he goes back to Corea. She loved him also from the beginning.
The songs and osts are also important to understand the subtext. There are many songs portraying Taeul’s thoughts when she first met Gon. I have posts on this. There are so many songs foreshadowing the ending of the show, and the whole eternal loop of the show. Gon’s main purpose is to find Taeul he does this by always opening the gates. Taeul’s main purpose is to wait for him because it’s her promise to him.  (Listen to please don’t cry and dream, maze  and orbit read the English lyrics). Therefore, Taeul and Gon don’t build their relationship slowly, they’ve already passed that stage in their previous meetings, that’s why he proposes to her in episode 2. He knows this.
Sorry for the lengthy post. I didn’t even go into details about the fight for justice and Fate and destiny as a rule as well of this show. But my other posts talk about these two.

Doafp 1x10 Review
Two Party System was a nice end to a stellar season though one story line didn’t quite stick the landing. Let’s dig in!
All is well once more with Elena and Sasha and Jessica. Great to see them open up to each other and for Elena to put sisters before misters. We’re really starting to see Elena become a leader and I loved the ending line of ‘’diary we’re just getting started’’. I do hope if there’s a S2 that we start seeing more of a direct line between Elena’s middle school life and her eventually becoming president because as of now the flashforwards to her as president 25+ years later seem gimmicky
Sabi are hetero goals again. It’s been a very nice surprise to see how much they’ve focused on some pretty adult topics with Gabi and Sam.  It’s hard for kids shows to pull off and I commend them for it; it reminds me of some of the focus we saw on Bex and Celia’s relationships and their pretty heavy issues in AM S1 and 2a. This was certainly the right time for them to put all of their cards on the table with Gabi realizing that Bobby is starting to see Sam as a father figure. I’m very curious to see where they go with Sabi in future seasons, if they’re renewed
Bobby’s story line took one step forward and two steps back tonight. Bobby reconciling with Liam and coming to grips with his sexuality in front of the mirror was a nice way to end his arc this season; it was also a retreat back into subtext from the more explicit ways they’ve touched on Bobby’s sexuality in eps 8 & 9. And the way Bobby’s conflict with Liam was wrapped up is noticeably different from how Elena’s conflicts with Sasha and Jessica and Gabi’s conflict with Sam.
Bobby and Liam made up by not actually discussing anything which sadly reminds me of what happened with Tyrus on AM after costume day. So many people after that ep aired said that Tyrus couldn’t reconcile and get together unless they talked things out, but of course they never did and they reconciled like nothing had ever happened and then had an underwhelming ending that could have happened without all the poorly written angst and drama. Now I don’t think the Bobby and Liam conflict will end up being all that important in the long run if the show is renewed because I don’t think Liam is Bobby’s love interest and if the show gets renewed then the writers have plenty of time to learn from this mistake but it’s more the fact that they made this mistake. If a show can’t pay off a story line then they shouldn’t do it; the writers had no excuse. They never would have Gabi tell Sam that she was just stressed because of work and then have everything go back to normal after their breakup in ep 8 because that would have been absurd. Having Bobby and Liam get in a brawl is great drama but set up becomes meaningless without payoff. It’s not a great sign that the Doafp writers are already making mistakes that it took the AM writers until almost the end of that show to make
I had flagged Cami explicitly stating the reason why Bobby fought Liam in my ep 9 review as potential set up for them not having Bobby tell Liam about his feelings which isn’t so surprising as we’ve literally never had a boy confess his feelings to another boy on a Disney show before. Since S2 if it happens will open on the start of the next school year it’s very unlikely that they’ll ever touch on the fight again which is for the best if Bobby is going to end up with someone else; just like how on AM it was for the best that Cyrus never told Jonah about his old crush on him.  Again I really hope that the writers make a plan for how to give Bobby the best possible plot in the face of Disney censorship. The best case scenario for the show is that they get 3-4 seasons total which would mean they have 20-30 odd eps to explore whatever it is they want to explore with all the characters. They just won’t have the time to drag things out like they did on AM, the 23 ep gap between Cyrus coming out to Andi and coming out to Jonah is likely more eps then Doafp has left for example. On Andi Mack the rule was that there couldn’t be anymore than 2 coming outs per season but their seasons were also 20+ eps so who knows if the Doafp writers can swing that in 10 ep seasons. All coming outs also had to be one on one coming outs but if they let Bobby come out to his family all at once then that would probably make things easier for the writers
Brandon Severs Jr really needs to stop with the Cartero hyping. It’s great that he ships cartero but there’s no evidence that he’s been told to act like Liam likes Bobby back in sharp contrast to how it was clear from the start that TJ liked Cyrus back because Luke had been told that TJ was gay. At least Josh and Luke and Terri and the other cast and crew who hyped up Tyrus to varying degrees were actually hyping up a ship that did end up canoning; what got them in trouble was hyping up the ship too much without knowing until the end whether it was actually going to be allowed to canon and lying about Disney censorship. What’s Brandon going to do when they eventually introduce a love interest for Bobby?
I like the development of the classmates like Claude and Ryan and Belinda and Joey and the Brits. They feel like real people in a way that background class mates rarely do on TV shows. It will serve the show well if they get renewed
The show has had great continuity so far, like with Ryan telling Elena that his mom and Claude’s mom are friends which is something Claude had mentioned earlier in the season. But I didn’t like that they blew up the timeline so that not only is spring break over in ep 9 but ep 10 which ends only a few days later is also the end of the school year. Timeline issues in and of themselves are not necessarily serious but they’re usually a warning sign that things are going wrong in the writers room. The GMW timeline never made much sense but it ended up becoming a total shitshow once that show got really bad and the AM timeline only started to get messy in 2b when the show’s writing started to get bad
Looking Ahead:
Doafp has really turned out to be a delightful surprise and I can only hope that it gets renewed though with the corona virus sweeping the world any announcement and any future production won’t be for a while most likely
With Sasha having a thing for Claude and Joey seemingly interested in Elena I think S2 will likely see a bigger focus on Elena and her friends and boys. It would be nice to see Joey’s bar mitzvah in S2 though I doubt they can top Cyrus’ bash mitzvah
I hope they introduce a love interest for Bobby in High School and that the censorship isn’t too bad but we shall see
If the show is cancelled and this ends up being the final review then thanks for reading and if we get more seasons I’ll see you back here one day

MAGGIE YOURE WRITING A BOOK????? WHY DIDNT I, YOU LOCAL YOUTH LIBRARIAN KNOW ABOUT THIS. Maggie give me all the details you feel comfortable sharing
if you’re able to or even want to share how far would you say you are into writing your novel like a few chapters or half the book or even more also are we allowed to hear like a quick blurb on what it’s about ?
well first let me say i’m so tickled that y’all are interested!!! seriously that makes my little writer heart very warm :’)
so actually if y’all have been around for a hot minute, you probably actually know a version of this story – it’s quincy willows, which long ago had its roots as one of my many trillion gmw aus. in fall 2018, i had written a couple of one shots for it and originally outlined it like a show (kind of like ambition or cotu), but the more i thought about it the more it felt like a novel / meant for prose. it also felt like… bigger than an au given that i was doing all this creative work and worldbuilding for it and the characters only had these menial attachments to their original source, so i scrapped it and took it all down and decided i wanted to try and do more with it.
flash forward to my graduation, where i knew i wanted to work on something that wasn’t screenplays considering i had just spent 4 years doing that and wanted to work with something fresh. i had been marinating the plot of qw, so in may i sat down and just… outlined the entire thing. story phase by story phase, beat by beat, and realized that i had the whole story right there in front of me. i had given it enough thought by that point that it was its own narrative and i knew like. okay. i’m ready to try actually writing this. so here we are, two months later! i’ll go into the actual plot under a cut because i know i’m gonna ramble excitedly LMAO
as for what it’s actually about… the narrative kind of takes on two main plots. the first is that our main protagonist, jonah lee anderson, arrives in the quaint new hampshire town of quincy willows because he was taken in by a foster family there after his abuela passed away. but even from the moment jonah is dropped off, something about the town seems… just a little bit strange. for example, his driver isn’t allowed to take him into town because it’s “private property,” even though they’re just surrounded by woods. only when jonah is left there alone with no service to reach his foster parents, he feels like… the forest is whispering. he’s always had an overactive imagination, but he doesn’t think he’s making this up. luckily his foster father moe arrives and helps get him into town, but he’s not going to forget that weird moment.
and the weird things just continue to stack up. for whatever reason, almost everyone in town seems to hate him or have this derision towards him despite not knowing a thing about him. people keep making weird comments towards him, like about his smell or how his mere presence is irritating or disruptive. the gang of white boys who all lowkey look the same take to bullying him because they can, because they’ve decided he’s different. and oh yeah, there was that time he was walking back from the cafe late at night and is 100% sure his snarky classmate turned into a demon and almost killed him. but everyone just tells him they don’t know what he could be talking about – and it isn’t until jonah stumbles upon what looks like some kind of demonic seance in the middle of the woods and thinks he spots their class president, cassie hatheway, participating, that he decides he’s got to figure all of this out.
of course, he’s not the only one interested in this mystery. another school outcast, xavier petrov, questions him when he starts digging his nose into things. and after a very strange confrontation with their student VP connor rose (and the “leader” of the white boy pack), xavier reveals that he orchestrated their fight to test one of his theories. and he thinks it worked – didn’t jonah see that moment where it looked like connor had fangs? after a chat at the cafe, jonah and xavier agree to an unlikely partnership to try and figure out what the hell is up with quincy willows that xav has been trying to figure out for… like, as long as he can remember.
further shenanigans aside, what we come to learn by the first half of the book is that the reason jonah sticks out like a sore thumb is because he’s not like everyone else in qw. because everyone in the town is a supernatural of some kind, and he is damningly and distractingly Normal, a “normie” whose internal clean pure energy is so imposing that it’s near irritating for the supernatural residents of quincy.
but that’s not the only reason they hold derision towards him. as the first part of the book unfolds, there are a lot of hints to how the forest that surrounds and protects their town (the one that seemed to be whispering, yeah) is starting to weirdly decay. and they all think it’s jonah’s fault, because this has happened in their history before. it’s a dark and twisted part of their town tale, and after xavier and jonah figure out that first mystery they get pulled into trying to track down what’s causing the forest decay to clear jonah’s name, save the nymph population and even greater, the town as a whole.
that’s like the very bare bones of the plot and doesn’t get into the subplots and all that, but there are some very key things i wanted to get into when writing this story. one is just that… fun slightly campy feeling of supernatural series we love (harry potter, twilight) but with a confused male protagonist. i wanted a boy protagonist to be the one who is the odd one out, who is clueless and lost, but also loves so deeply and selflessly and is searching for his own place to belong. additionally, while there is a few different romances in the story, the main relationship in the first book is the friendship ( / one-sided crush) between jonah and xavier. with the exception of like… trc, i can’t really think of a supernatural YA series where a healthy friendship between males is allowed to be the focal point. so that was important to me too.
but i really… i don’t even know how to explain how much i love working on this book. the characters are all so fun to write and exist so easily in this universe. basically all of the 8 core young adult protagonists are queer in some capacity, and ¾ of the main 4 are poc. xavier is canonically autistic. i think that YA has the amazing power to be inclusive in a way that a lot of “prestige” work isn’t, and i wanted to lean into that full throttle with this trilogy. i just… i love it. i love it! i’m really excited to share it with y’all as i go
i didn’t really talk about my process for writing it, but if you want to ask feel free because i feel like this is already so long FDJSKLJDLKGJDFL. but thank you again for asking, it means so so much to me <3

AM Season 4
I know it seems early right now, but it never hurts to start thinking of ways we can help save Andi Mack and give it the 4th season it deserves.
I went through the "Will there be a season 4?" stress with the Girl Meets World fandom. There were a lot of fans petitioning for a 4th season. We went HARDCORE. At the end, Disney Channel decided to cancel the show. But that doesn't mean the same outcome will happen for Andi Mack.
Josh confirmed on Tumblr that no one knows yet whether or not Andi Mack will get a 4th season. It’s too early to jump into a decision right now because there are so many factors to consider and so many more episodes to air. Disney Channel will be keeping a close eye on the upcoming ratings following the unfortunate Stoney news. So what can we do now to help our chances?
1. Watch the show. This is one of the biggest things you can do right now. Make sure your TVs are on to watch the new Andi Mack episode on January 18th. Watching the episode on the DisneyNOW app is also super important as it counts towards views.
2. Sign and share change.org petition. It looks like someone already started one for Andi Mack season 4 with 2,000+ signatures, but I don’t think anyone has spread it around for a while. Here’s the link: https://www.change.org/p/disney-channel-help-get-disney-channel-to-renew-season-4-of-andi-mack?recruiter=683574212&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=share_petition
Petitions are a great way to help spread awareness and for Disney Channel to see how popular and special the show really is.
3. Attack Disney Channel’s socials-Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube. Don’t send them hate comments, but instead comment on their posts how much you love the show, what it means to you, and why you want a season 4.
4. Start a fan project campaign. This is more of a later on down the road thing, but it’s a fun way for the entire fandom to get involved. As an example, in the Girl Meets World fandom we created a special fan project where each fan wrote a letter about why Disney Channel should save Girl Meets World and then folded their letter into a paper airplane. These letters were sent directly to Gary Marsh, who is the President and Chief Creative Officer for Disney Channel. Here are some pictures of the project so you can see what I mean:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Andi Mack equivalent to the GMW paper airplanes would be the paper cranes in Andi Shack, but that is way too difficult lol, so we need to think of something creative and unique to the show that would be easy for lots of fans to participate in. I have seen all of your fan arts, fanfiction, edits, theories, videos, etc. so I know there are so many bright minds in this fandom so share your ideas!

In one of the show's many attempts to force feed you C0rpanga, it changes not only Cory and Topanga’s backstory, but also Shawn and Cory’s, though to a lesser extent.
See, up until a certain point, the understanding was that Shawn and Cory had known each other for longer than Cory and Topanga had, but around the season two mark, changes were slowly made so that it was the other way around, solidified in season five when we're told how Shawn and Cory met, showing that Shawn showed up later than Topanga.
And it's interesting because changing it so that Topanga was there first makes it so that Shawn is coming between C0rpanga more than Topanga is coming between Shawn and Cory (though that aspect is played with).
It makes me think of 'An Affair to Forget' where the episode plays out like Shawn and Cory are having an affair. But that dynamic, for me at least, didn't end with that episode and also didn't start with that episode.
I've never watched GMW and never plan to, but I've seen many GIFs and clips from the show where Cory is more enthusiastic about Shawn than he is about Topanga. There's too many examples to name but one that sticks out to me is when Riley is talking about getting rings with someone, and Cory - instead of talking about the rings he and Topanga have - talks about how Shawn bought him a ring for his 25th and Topanga "won't let [him] wear it." And you can see the visible disappointment on Topanga’s face.
It's like Cory's head always chooses Topanga, but his heart always chooses Shawn.
Anyway, we can file that under Reason 924 why I'm a C0rpanga divorce truther.

Katie please go off on how much Lucas respects Riley in GMW like in the crossover episode "we'll go when you're ready" and then in girl meets bear "After you" like my fucking heart Katie <3
Ohhh, we all know how much he respects her and he’s proven time and time again that when it comes to their relationship, he lets her take the lead:
GM Sneak Attack: He knows she’s not ready to go out on a date yet.  Part of the episode is her realizing that she’s not ready to take that crush to that level yet, and he sees that.  He’s a year older, so he’s probably ready to go out on dates and whatever, but he recognizes that she isn’t, so what does he do?  He tells Missy that they’d “have more fun hanging out together”.  He’s willing to wait.
GM Truth: “My moment will by my moment.” -- Clearly letting her and the audience know that he’s waiting for the right time.
GM First Date: Throughout the first season, we see their friendship growing as they become more and more comfortable around one another.  Fast forward to GM First Date.  Riley announces to the entire class that “I will decide who I will go on my first date with at such time as somebody asks me.”  That was what he needed to know.  His hand goes up, my heart melts a little, and well, cue the theme song.
Farkle: So, are you gonna ask one of them out?
Lucas: Maybe I will. Someday.
He’s still waiting for the right moment, but Maya comes in with her grand scheme and forces his hand.  He asks Riley’s father’s permission (who DOES that?!) and then asks her.  Aside from Ski 2, this is the only time he really takes the lead in their relationship by asking her out.  Cue the ooey-goodness and the look that still leaves me shook™ and their first and only screen kiss.
GM New World: Perfect example of what happens when everyone else kind of forces them into rushing into a relationship.  I have conflicting opinions on whether or not Lucas was ready to try being in a relationship with Riley at this point, but either way, it becomes apparent in this episode that he sees (I mean, how could he not) how uncomfortable she is.  He knows they’re being pressured into it and knows that it’s affecting their relationship.  It’s the last thing he wants.  As we find out later (Ski 2), his favorite thing in the world is talking to her, and they can’t even do that anymore.  So, what does he do?  He breaks up with her because they aren’t ready.  He wants her to be comfortable with whatever they are, so, once again, he lets her take the lead (which is apparent when she addresses the students at school at the end of the ep:  “{...} nobody is moving too fast here”
GM Semi-Formal: “Charlie, you may not know this, but Riley and I kind of have an unofficial thing going.”  He didn’t think he had to ask her to the dance.  He assumed they would be going together because he thought their unofficial thing was more official than that.  “I just naturally assumed that we were going together.  I thought we were going together.  I’m...I should have asked.”  This episode is truly one of my favorites of the series for several reasons, and one of those reasons is because (for me), it seems apparent that he took their unofficial thing fairly seriously considering how their conversation at the semi-formal went:
Riley: “Why did you assume we were going to the dance if we’re not officially together?”
Lucas: “I don’t know.  Why would you make a big deal about it if we’re not officially together?”
Between the events in Yearbook and the events in Semi-Formal, confusion about their relationship and what it is (or isn’t) forms because their lack of communication with one another.  All the while, there Lucas is, still waiting for his moment, waiting for her to be ready to make that unofficial thing official, but here comes another issue: Charlie.  Does she like Charlie?  Where does that leave them?  Lucas, being Lucas, doesn’t push the issue.
GM Rileytown: As my bf so lovingly put it: “Damn, is Lucas gonna beat up a chick?”  Protective AF, but when it came down to it, when she told him not to get involved, he backed off, and let her handle the situation how she wanted to.
BFW - Cyd & Shelby’s Haunted Escape: I LOVE how Riley and Lucas are written in this episode.  I really do.  There are so many little moments between them that show how their friendship as progressed like how Lucas loves the show Cuddle Bunnies, and Riley knows he watches it everyday.  Their comedic timing was perfect in this one.
The “we’ll go when you’re ready” is quintessential Lucas.  He never wants to push her into anything she doesn’t want to do, even if it’s something he doesn’t quite understand: like wanting to stay in an escape room.
GM Rah Rah: He's proud her, but he also doesn’t want her to get hurt/disappointed by potentially not making the squad.  Even when she decides to continue, he’s there supporting her with everyone else.
GM Texas 1, 2, 3: This post is already getting long, and I feel that Texas is pretty self explanatory.  “If it wasn’t for you, I don’t know if I would have survived in New York.” <---one of my fav lines in the series from him and honestly, I feel like he was inching toward having his moment with her at that time since he had just conquered his fear about Tombstone and everything.  But as we all know, she tells him that she sees him as a brother.  Afterward, he’s all confused, tries to rationalize it...and can’t...he tries to talk to her about it a few times, until ultimately (at the campfire) he realizes that he has to accept that.  He thought they were more, she told him otherwise, so he now must respect her wishes to end whatever they were or weren’t.  ((Not getting into the M/L stuff because it would make this post infinitely longer, so we’re gonna skip over that and slide into T3)).  In the bay window with her, he tries to be what she wants him to be: a friend, but he’s clearly uncomfortable with the Charlie conversation.  He’s still trying to make sense of it all while also trying to be there for her.  Eventually, and after an awesome convo with Auggie, realizes that even if they weren’t together romantically, he couldn’t be her brother.  There are a lot of parallels in that moment with the dialogue and what’s really going on.  Lucas even uses the phrase “step back” which is what she was doing.  DAMN that scene at Topanga’s.
Ok, this thing is really going off the rails into something you didn’t even ask about...
GM New Year: No-chill Friar.  Trying very hard to keep it together because he thinks she wants to be with Charlie-----until he finds out she doesn’t.
GM Legacy: He steps back from her because he doesn’t “want this to be the end of us.”  He can’t hurt either girl because no matter what happened, he would end up hurting them both.
GM Jexica: “I’d recognize you anywhere.”
GM Triangle/GM Upstate: I’ll forever maintain that he realized what was going on with Maya during the jellybean scene and before he announces that he’s made his decision.  He wasn’t surprised by Maya saying that no matter who he picked, it’d be Riley since she had been acting like that.  He might’ve not known why she did it, but I think he figured it out.  But, out of respect for both girls and their friendship, he decided to keep his decision to himself until Maya became herself again.
GM Ski Lodge 1, 2: No-chill Friar returns.  They realize that conversation is the most important part of any relationship (to which he prob already knows since a lot of the drama could have been prevented had they just communicated, but whatever).  He’s trying to get them all to agree to a decision because as I mentioned before, if he hurts one of them, he hurts both of them, and he could never hurt them.  Once he feels like he’s able to have that conversation with Riley, he does, and the things he says are so incredibly respectful.  He’s quick to let her know that she can talk to whoever she wants to (that her talking to Evan wasn’t what made him upset).  “So, you’ve been thinking about this too?”  “I choose you, and I really want you to choose me.”
And, of course, he finally had his moment.
GM Bear:  Obviously him and Farkle wanting to bail on finding the bear toward the beginning of the episode was there for comedic effect, but he was right next to her as they searched for it.  He told her about his little sack of gold and helped her to realize that sometimes things needed to be let go of in order to grow up.  Then he was completely adorable and asked her to go to the movies with him.
GM GLONY: Deleted Scene: Riley thinks she rambling on about these Russian nesting dolls, so she stops and apologizes.  Lucas tells her "No, keep going.  I like it when you keep going.”
GM She Don’t Like Me: Literally picked her up and carried her to class because she was too depressed to do it on her own.
GM WOT 3: He lets her handle her conflict with Maya in her own way, but sticks close by just in case.
GM Sweet Sixteen: “I’m hopeful for us too, Riley.”
I don’t think any of this made sense.  I went off the rails, and didn’t cover everything, but I’ve worked on this for awhile now, and I’m just gonna post it.
ANYWAY, Lucas respects the hell out of his girlfriend, Riley Matthews, and it’s a beautiful story that ended WAY before it should have.

☕️ maya had the tendency to be a shitty friend
I totally agree. 100%.
Ok, ok, wait, let me explain before all the m/aya stans come for me.
It all started in season two for me w/ episodes like gm mr. squirrels, gm yearbook, and so many more. Get ready folks, this is gonna be a long one.
I love all the characters on gmw, it’s just that, over time, m/aya became a character that I started to dislike. And I’m not going to say that m/aya was the only character to say some some rude things or act completely ooc because that’s not true. There’s that one remark from Lucas who said “I mean, your family life could be, you know, better,” and Riley has said some things where it went like, “well, whatever happens at least you’re better than m/aya,”(??? Idk if that’s exactly right but whatever)
But to me, the way m/aya was to Riley and Lucas went deeper than just her words, it was her actions too.
For example, m/aya had teased Lucas literally since the second episode of gmw, and I’m not going to say that I didn’t like when she would call him huckleberry or ranger rick because I love those nicknames for Lucas, I loved the friendly banter they had because it seemed completely platonic, like they could at least tolerate each other if rucas decided to date in the future. But what I don’t like abt m/aya’s teasing is that when Lucas decided to strike back for once( with the remark which was calling m/aya a “short stack of pancakes” which I love so much😂) , it became a huge problem w/ m/aya and the end result was that m/aya could tease Lucas as much as she wanted to and he could never fight back. Basically the lesson was supposed to be that you stick your friends whether they’re right or wrong, and you’re never supposed to to tell them they’re wrong if you want to keep the friendship. 😕Also m/aya told Riley that “if being right is more important than being friends, then that’s the end of being friends” which???? Isn’t??? Right??? ( gm mr. squirrels was just a mess in itself, and the amazing @friarlucas said it so much better than I ever could, but I gave it a shot😂)
Also, there was yearbook…*sigh*
In this episode, it wasn’t anything she said abt Riley or anyone else in the core four, it was the way she acted that annoyed the heck out of me. When m/aya pretended to be Riley, all she would say was “world peace. Oo and bunnies!!”….like, this is your best friend, the person you’re supposed to know more than anyone else in the world, and you think the only way you could possibly be like her is to care abt bunnies? How about being passionate abt feminism or stem??? Like Riley is??? Or maybe just sitting down and shutting up??? So that instead of making it look like there’s no depth to your best friend, you could think abt the way she would fix the situation and go on from there??? Is that so crazy???
I might’ve gone a little bit off track here. 😂In the end, m/aya was a great character and I enjoyed watching her for three seasons. But it was certain remarks or actions like in gm rileytown, where she wouldn’t stop saying rileytown even though Riley asked her to because, “I like to say whatever I want”, or in gm high school pt. 1 where she said, “how am I in a triangle w/ that??” that made me dislike her, i hate that line from high school so much because it’s super rude, but I could do a whole rant about that so let me stop here😂 so, in the end, I do think that there were times where m/aya was a horrible friend.

When you have time, would you be willing make a list of all of your autistic characters, and why you think they are? I just think it'd be so interesting to hear your thoughts! If you don't mind of course!
Sorry this took ages and ages. It got long... Also I lost steam on some of them, so the explanations are short or less formal. And some of them are from media I haven’t seen in a long time, or haven’t watched thoroughly enough, so a lot of them are sans explanation, but I still thought belonged on the list. If you want clarification/more info or just to come talk to me about them (how they stim! special interests! favorite sensory things!), ask away! <3
And now for a read more:
Buffyverse:
Willow Rosenberg (x)
Lots of stimming - drumming with straws, twirling/floating pencils, twiddling her fingers
“It’s noisy up here” in her head, her brain is always loud and full of too many thoughts at one time
When she tells Anya to “learn the rules” and “act more human” because she’s had to make a conscious effort to learn the rules of social interaction in order to pass as neurotypical
Often extreme reactions to emotions because she struggles with emotional processing
Extremely logical and organized, as evidenced by color-coded notes
Struggles when people don’t react the way she expects them to
Likes routine and predictability, going to the same places because she’s comfortable there and knows what to expect
Often takes a literal interpretation and struggles to find what people actually mean
Bad at reading other people and their emotions, spends lots of time in the library, finds it easier to interact with adults than peers of her own age
Anya Jenkins (x)
Is rude and fine with being strange, doesn’t care about passing as neurotypical
Special interest in money and capitalism
Literal interpretations - and this is definitely before she became a demon as well, as we see in flashbacks
Sensory issues, describes things as “unpleasant tactile experience”
Doesn’t read people, doesn’t pass as neurotypical - comes across as rude because she’s blunt and to the point, rather than tiptoeing around issues because she doesn’t understand emotions
Bad at expressing or dealing with emotions, partly because she isn’t used to them - she didn’t form many strong emotional attachments prior to Xander and the Scoobies
Fred Burkle, probably
DCTV:
Felicity Smoak
The first time we see her, she’s chewing on a pen (stimming) and rambling. Read as autistic straight away, which made me really glad she stuck around and has become as important as she is
Takes things very literally, which is often played for comedic effect but is also very autistic
The first one to come to mind is “It’s nice to have you inside me. And by you I mean your voice, and by inside me I mean in my ear…” It gets played for inappropriate humour a lot, which I enjoy, but is also incredibly autistic
My mom brought up her clothes: We never really see her casual, she’s almost always in heels and nice clothes. My mom pointed out that this could be an extreme manifestation of adopting social norms - wanting to blend in by dressing like ‘normal’ people and therefore taking it too far and always dressing this way rather than in comfortable clothes. It’s an interesting read there.
She stims a lot - the pen I mentioned, spinning her ring when she’s nervous (sometime in s4 I noticed this heavily), plenty of other moments I’m forgetting
“Was that my out-loud voice” or something like that, which was very much not being able to regulate her thoughts to speech
Says inappropriate things, lacks tact: her first scene, when she immediately mentions his dead father, and then tries to recover and just makes it worse; then she points out the bullet holes rather than going along with the lie; then to stop her ramble she goes “which will end in 3-2-1…”
Doesn’t like other people messing with her workspace, because she has things a very particular way and she values order
Special interest in technology, built a computer at a young age and was a programming genius relatively young
Curtis Holt
A lot of traits in common with Felicity
Bad at reading social situations and social cues - interrupts at inappropriate times, makes inappropriate comments, misreads dinner with Paul
Special interest in tech - built his T-spheres, tinkers with tech during his downtime
Physically awkward and ungraceful - finds it difficult to learn fighting form + technique
Harry Potter:
Luna Lovegood
This headcanon has the support of Evanna Lynch herself, so you really can’t argue
Such an awkward, eccentric little oddball
Special interest in “mythical” magical creatures
Peers bully her because she doesn’t fit in, she says odd things
Gets along better with animals than people
Hermione Granger
Misses the cues or the rules of human interaction - for example, correcting people’s pronunciation or always raising her hand in a way that comes across as “know-it-all”
Finds books and libraries comforting, because the rules are easy to understand and facts are soothing
Can’t remember how canon this is but dresses/does her hair in ways that are comforting and soothing sensory experiences
Newt Scamander (Fantastic Beasts)
MCU:
Tony Stark (+ADHD)
Bruce Banner
Leo Fitz
See (buckysbears)
Seriously she put together the most amazing checklists ever for FitzSimmons, I am in awe (also all of her autistic headcanons are awesome)
Jemma Simmons
See (buckysbears)
Daisy Johnson (ADHD)
Peter Parker (ADHD)
Misc:
Five (Dark Matter) (x)
See (mine)
Kaylee Frye (Firefly)
Prefers casual sex over dating most of the time because it’s easier and the social rules of it are simpler
Understands the ship’s engine better than people (it “speaks” to her) and is most comfortable in the engine room
Still innocent and child-like in many aspects, but still a valued member of the crew
Simon Tam (Firefly)
River Tam (Firefly)
Farkle (GMW)
LaFontaine (Carmilla)
Amy Santiago (B99)

Andi Mack 2x20 Review
Andi’s Choice was a sweet fluffy episode, a nice contrast to all the angst we’ve had in 2b. I’m gonna divide my reviews from now on into positives and negatives. And don’t worry I’ll be talking a lot about Cyrus and his lack of jealousy and what it means for his story in the negatives section.
Positives
Being around you is a great song! Asher has a lovely voice and it would be great if Disney released a full version. I’m glad that they had Bowie write most of it as it would have been unbelievable that Jonah wrote it all himself in the show’s fake 10 day timeline or it’s actual 3ish weeks timeline.
But you can tell that the core message, “I love being around you’’ came from Jonah and it was a nice little callback to what Jonah told Andi at the Space Otters dinner.
It was great seeing Jonah facing down his anxiety and winning. 2b has been full of angst and setbacks and defeats. Yes we need to see characters struggle and grow and learn but it can’t be constant defeats we need to see them win too. We’ve really seen the toll his untreated anxiety has taken on his life which makes his victory tonight all the sweeter and it lets kids know that they don’t have to be ruled by their anxiety.
I think tonight has been the most likeable Jonah has been in a long time. We get flashes of that old Bill Clinton charm of his but also his natural sweetness and we got some callbacks to his obliviousness. I laughed so much when he thought that Bowie wanted him to look at Bex.
I know that most people on here hate Jandi but it’s just your typical middle school relationship, nothing to get so worked up over (and if you want to hate on it just use an anti-jandi tag). They’ve had some sweet moments and will probably have a few more before Terri pulls the rug out from under the core audience of 6-14 year olds who love this ship and keep this show afloat. I do enjoy seeing the lengths Disney is going to plug the ship (#jandiforever). And I’m sure the Team Jonah kids on the Mack Chat will be popping bottles tonight. In fact I’ll bet that this episode has the highest ratings of 2b so far.
Obviously the ship has its faults and Terri has spoken negatively of it in the past but the casual audience (which is the vast majority of the audience) doesn’t know that and all they see is the show continually pushing Andi and Jonah together so why would they hate it?
As for the seating it wasn’t so that we could see Cyrus’ reactions (we didn’t) it was because Buffy is a bit taller than Cyrus and her longer and curlier hair would obstruct our view (and Jonah’s) of Andi more than Cyrus would.
I will give the show credit for keeping the lyrics gender neutral (though it was the very least they could do). However, they did make it clear that the song and Jonah’s feelings are only directed at Andi.
And as for the kiss I thought it was exactly like an unexpected first kiss at 14 would be like. I don’t read too much into Jonah’s eyes being open I think it just happened so quickly and took him by surprise that he didn’t know what to do. i know some people are comparing it to the first Ciris kiss but what people forget is that their first kiss went well and Cyrus was actually very happy afterwards (too happy for a soon to realize he’s gay boy in truth). Both Jonah and Andi were happy afterwards and it was nice to see them smiling.
I also give the show credit for keeping Andi at the centre of this love triangle and keeping all the power in her hands (putting Lucas at the centre of the triangle was GMW’s fatal flaw). I also think it was good to show younger women that it’s okay for them to take charge and make the first move. And kudos for the show having Andi explicitly say that being in a triangle is no fun; obviously the show is selling a fantasy but it’s important to let reality peek in.
I’ll have more to say about Bowie’s behaviour in the negatives but I do think the show was trying to draw a parallel to Bex’s scenes with Amber. Just as Bex’s advice (get a makeover) was immature so was Bowie’s advice (write her a song). It reminds the audience that these are two teen parents we are dealing with and they are still stuck in their teenage mindsets in some ways. I think a big part of their arcs in S3 will be doing that growing up.
Celia’s behaviour doesn’t make much sense but it’s all part of the show moving her from ‘’stern and responsible parental figure’’ to ‘’wacky grandma’’. The show needs Celia to let loose a bit so Bex looks more mature and responsible in contrast. Buying the fringe when Bex has no experience running a small business wasn’t a well thought out move but again it’s necessary because the show wants to establish Bex and Bowie as responsible parents who can financially support themselves and Andi once they’re engaged.
It was nice to see Britney again, hopefully Bex doesn’t lay her off.
I do like that Cyrus used his director’s skills when joking around with Andi and Buffy.
Lol I was completely wrong about the High School Musical lady being Amber’s mom.
Walker is nice and I think he’s taking his cues from rom-coms (where else would a 14 year old get romantic advice) which explains these sweet but unexpected gestures. I’m glad that he made such a good impression on Buffy and Cyrus, I’m sure he’ll fit right in with the GHC in S3.
Cyrus’ mom writing a friendship application letter on his behalf was hilarious and also explains so much of why Cyrus is the way he is.
Negatives
For the casual audience a crush that cannot be shown or discussed is for all intents and purposes a crush that does not exist. When Cyrus comes out to Jonah and Jonah gently turns him down the only thing that will surprise most viewers is that Cyrus still has a crush on Jonah.
Jealousy is such a common trope to establish or reinforce that a person has romantic feelings for another person because it is unmistakable and everyone has experienced some form of jealousy. It’s especially easy for for children to grasp which is why it’s a staple of kid’s shows. For example, in GMW we saw Lucas get jealous multiple times when Riley was with Charlie or Evan and this told the audience that he still had feelings for her and wanted to be with her. It was the show’s way of telling the audience that we should pay attention to Lucas’ feelings and that they mattered.
When the show doesn’t let Cyrus ever show jealously it tells the audience that Cyrus’ feelings don’t matter and that there’s nothing there. Most viewers take their cues from the show and when the show does’t let Cyrus be jealous or even have very many scenes with Jonah it’s guiding them away from shipping J*rus. If you showed this ep to someone who had never seen Andi Mack and afterwards told them that Cyrus had a crush on Jonah they wouldn’t believe you. Whether they’re 6 or 60 the first thing they’d ask you is why didn’t Cyrus show any jealousy.
The key point this episode drove home imo is that if the show can’t ever discuss or show Cyrus’ crush except when he’s coming out to someone then there’s no way the show could ever discuss or show Cyrus dating Jonah. And can you even imagine how Jonah would even realize he’s bisexual and how the show would even be able to discuss that. The show is barely even pretending that Cyrus has a shot with Jonah and that’s because the writers have long known that it’s not going to happen.
I re-watched 2x01 so it was fresh in my mind for watching 2x20 and the contrast in how Cyrus’ jealousy and Buffy’s support for him is portrayed is stunning. What’s worse is that Cyrus’ jealousy is all in what was originally 1x13. It’s very clear that Disney only let Terri have Cyrus hang out with Jonah so much in in S1 and to show such overt jealousy because it was necessary to set up his sexuality arc. And Buffy was so supportive and careful of Cyrus’ feelings in 2x01 and that’s nowhere to be seen in this ep.
If A Good Hair Day had aired as 2x04 as originally planned we would have seen Cyrus’ gay arc mostly wrapped up in 5 eps before being completely dropped until 2x11. That was probably part of Disney’s deal, Terri could have her coming out story but it could only be focused on for a few eps. And I think they’re taking the opposite approach in S3. The first eps will focus on the het ships and story lines before TJ returns in ep 4 or 5 to kick off Cyrus’ romance arc. Again that was probably part of the deal, Terri could give Cyrus a boyfriend eventually but only after all the het ships were put front and centre.
And boy was it ballsy of the show to have Cyrus call himself the sassy (gay) friend. It helps draw attention to how unfilled out Cyrus is and how he could have been easily cut this ep and nothing at all what have changed.
As for Bowie this episode while I understand that the show is trying to emphasize his immaturity it is super weird that he’s helping Jonah win back his daughter and mostly writes the lyrics to a romantic song about his daughter that also clearly applies to his relationship with Bex.
But I now understand why there have been so many Bexie and Jandi parallels lately. Bowie and Bex are re-living their relationship through Andi and Jonah because they both feel that it’s too late for them. I do feel more confident now in saying that Jonah and Andi will not get back together after they break up for good this season.
Terri has talked a bit about how important momentum is for the show which is why I’m again left wondering why the writer’s thought it would be a good idea for the show to destroy it’s momentum by imposing a 10 day deadline that has been impossible to keep. It takes basic reasoning skills to see that they had way too much story to cram into 6 episodes to justify such a short deadline. And we can tell by the number of weekends that it has actually been almost 3 weeks in show time not 10 days.
They’re going to have to change Jonah’s middle name from Hercules to Wolfgang because he’s clearly a Mozart level prodigy if he picks up guitar in a week.
Once again no word on Buffy’s crush but I’ll admit that Jonah is being Andi’s first kiss is a strike against my Juffy theory (and is also a strike against J*rus happening).
And while I appreciate that Jandi needs to happen one more time to deal with all those feelings I still think it’s a bad idea to give them such a sweet moment only to undercut it in 5 eps and have Andi end up with Walker anyways.
And this is a very minor quibble but why has Buffy known Cyrus since the 2nd grade but Andi’s ‘pet’ hasn’t been fed in 7 years which would be around Kindergarten which is also what I remember being mentioned in 2x15 as the start of their friendship?

Dutch labour law and your contract of employment
Dutch labour laws regarding your contract of employment in the Netherlands are numerous; here are some expert tips on negotiating your employment contract. The laws covering employment in the Netherlands are many and various. Your personal contract of employment will determine your pay and specific conditions. Dutch employment law covers key areas such as trial periods, Netherlands vacation days, notice and dismissal, the Dutch minimum wage, health and safety and equal treatment.
The Dutch labour law system for dismissal is particularly unusual, as it is very protective of employees: in most cases, the employer needs permission from the labour office, known as UWV WERKbedrijf, or the court to fire you.
If you want to assess an employment contract offer, you can check the market rate for your salary or calculate bruto/netto rates (before/after tax and social security deductions) at www.loonwijzer.nl. It is standard practice in the Netherlands to get extra wages (usually 8 percent of your yearly salary) as a ‘holiday allowance’ (normally paid in May) plus four weeks of paid leave.
There are numerous aspects to Dutch labour law, however, which are explained below to help you negotiate your contract of employment in the Netherlands.
Dutch labour law overview
Godelijn Boonman of the Legal Expat Desk, a service offered by GMW lawyers, offers a number of important suggestions:
If you work in the Netherlands, Dutch labour law is partly and often fully applicable to your employment, even if the law of another country is declared applicable in your contract of employment.
The number of succeeding employment contracts for a fixed term is limited to three, but can also not exceed a limit of two years for the total duration of fixed-term contracts. If the duration of the contracts or the number of fixed contracts exceeds either legal limit, the contract of employment will automatically become a permanent contract for an unlimited term. An interval of six months between contracts, however, breaks the chain of consecutive temporary contracts.
If the contract is for fewer than two years, the trial period cannot be longer than one month. The maximum duration of a trial period is two months. Trial periods in an employment contract for fewer than six months are invalid. During the trial period, both employer and employee are allowed to terminate the employment contract with immediate effect.
The notice period for the employee is usually one month. If the notice period for the employee to end a contract of employment is extended, the notice period for the employer should be double the notice period of the employee.
A permanent contract with an unlimited term can only be terminated by the employer with the consent of the employee, UWV WERKbedrijf or the court. The court and labour offices assess whether there are grounds for a valid termination. If an employer gives notice of termination without obtaining prior approval, the employee could nullify the termination. This rule is not applicable in the case of summary dismissal (such as fraud or theft by the employee). Courts are, however, very reluctant about accepting summary dismissals under Dutch labour law. It is therefore very important to contact an employment lawyer immediately if you are fired on the spot.
The legal minimum number of holidays per year is four times the weekly working time. This means 20 holidays in the case of full-time employees working five-day weeks, although it is common practice for full-time employees to be granted 25 holiday days per year, on top of Dutch national holidays. In the Netherlands’ employment law, there is an expiration date of six months for taking the legal minimum number of holidays. Employees therefore must take all their holidays within six months after the year in which the holidays were accrued. Should the employee not take the holidays on time, the holidays will lapse without any compensation or payment. The expiration date of six months is not applicable to holidays that the employee is entitled to on top of the legal minimum number of holidays. These extra holidays will not lapse until after a period of five years. Read about Netherlands vacation law.
Employment contracts under Collective Labour Agreements
A CAO (collectieve arbeidsovereenkomst) is a written agreement covering working conditions and benefits, which is drawn up by employers, employers’ organisations and employee organisations (such as unions). A CAO operates at company or industry sector level and the provisions (number of holidays, for example) are often more generous than statutory requirements. It should state in your contract of employment whether a CAO is applicable. You don’t have to be a member of a union to benefit. If no CAO applies – all must be registered – you will need to negotiate your own terms and conditions. The largest trade union federation in the Netherlands is the FNV (www.fnv.nl).
Changing jobs: Your employment contract and Dutch permit
Any changes in your work or partnership status must be reported to the IND within four weeks. You or your ‘sponsor’ (such as an employer) can be penalised by the IND if changes aren’t reported, including contributions to repatriation costs.
If you change jobs, you don’t necessarily need a new residence permit, but the same rules will apply as for the first permit you were granted. So if you worked with a separate work permit, your new employer needs a new work permit, too.
If you worked as a highly skilled migrant, your new employer needs to be eligible to apply under the highly skilled migrant scheme, and will need to prove to the IND that you still meet the requirements of the highly skilled migrant scheme, for example, sending in your contract of employment to show you earn the required salary.
If you are applying to extend a residence or work permit, your circumstances will be assessed again in reference to the original application. The main exception is that after three years working on any given residence permit that allowed you to work (such as a partner’s permit or employee single permit), you no longer need a separate work permit to sign a contract of employment.
Highly skilled migrants can also change their purpose of stay into ‘labour’ after three years, which allows them to work without a work permit and without meeting the requirements for the highly skilled migrant scheme.
Unemployment benefits (WW) Netherlands
Typically all working residents in the Netherlands must first pay Dutch social security contributions in order to receive any benefits. Your employment history determines the amount and duration of unemployment benefitpayments. For the first two months you get 75 percent of your last earned salary, and thereafter 70 percent. You must have worked 26 out of the previous 36 weeks before the first day of terminating your contract of employment (or fewer for those not in regular employment), although benefits can be restricted if other benefits are in operation. Read more in our guide to Dutch social security.
Dutch labour authority
Useful information regarding working practices, your contract of employment, Dutch labour law and the Netherlands’ minimum wage can be found on the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment website (www.szw.nl) or the UWV WERKbedrijf website (www.werk.nl).
