okay but henriksen really thought he was doing something in 3x13, just casually roasting sam and dean like “hope y’all enjoy prison, you’re never getting out lol” and they could not care less. dean’s cracking jokes, sam’s unbothered, like yeah yeah whatever dude. but the second he says “take a good look at sam, you’ll never see each other again”—bro. the way they SNAPPED their heads towards him. like they forgot how to breathe for a sec. eyes full of murder. like how dare he even suggest they get separated? that's his biggest sin right there. you can lock them up, you can put them on death row, you can throw them into the deepest, darkest hole imaginable for all they care—but separate them? absolutely the fuck not. that is not on the table. i just know henriksen had a little moment of realization like "damn okay, these guys are unwell."

jess catching sam kissing a man in an alley after following him because she noticed something was wrong.

the man is tall but sam easily towers over him. she can't see well but she knows the man is well built and when sam pulls away all she sees is his big wide grin. she knew what awaited her when she followed sam but the heartbreak is all the same so she runs away. she runs away and doesnt confront sam when he comes back home from a run. she pointedly doesnt look at his obviously raw lips or smell the foreign cologne on his jacket. he doesnt have to know she knows. they're happy like this and thats all that matters.

a few months later she walks into her living room to see sam and the man again. they're not furiously making out in an alley so she can get a clear look at him. he's handsome, blonde with green eyes and big lips. sam looks positively entranced by him. she's terrified.

"sam?"

"jess. hey. dean this is my girlfriend jessica."

there is blood pooling in her ears. thats not right. thats not what he said. vomit threatens to leave her mouth instead of words.

"wait your brother dean?"

jess makes eye contact with the man. its that same awful grin again.

no bc the amount of times people close to sam and dean have implied there’s something more going on between them?? it’s actually insane. like it’s not just random strangers on the street picking up on the vibes—it's people who know them. people who’ve been around. people who have no reason to joke like that unless they’re seeing something.

we got ruby in season 4 straight up asking if they’re together?? like girl said that with her chest. jody in season 10 telling them they have something special—and you know she meant it in a “wtf is this intensity” kinda way, not just “aww sibling love.” crowley dropping that line about his butler having heard things?? pls. what was he hearing exactly?????? lisa saying their bond is the most tangled-up thing she’s ever seen? bffr. zachariah literally calling them erotically codependent??? that’s not a casual observation, that’s someone who sat down and analyzed it. balthazar asking if dean stole any kisses while sam was unconscious—LIKE??? that wasn’t a throwaway line, that was a callout. and then the reaper in s15 saying she’s seen and heard things?? nah. no way she meant that platonically.

and even cas. when dean’s like “you think sam wants a divorce?” and he’s just deadpan like “it’d take more than that for sam to walk away.” like. that man has seen it all and he’s still not even surprised by the mess they are.

and these are people who have been in their lives for a while. they know the winchesters. they’ve seen the full range of chaos and codependency and still come out the other end making those kinds of comments. it’s not a coincidence anymore. it’s just canonically hilarious at this point. the friends, the enemies, the exes, the angels, the literal death entities—everyone is in agreement: whatever’s going on between those two is not normal.

Dean and Sam are truly grade A fucking crazy. Like Dean would rather break every bone is Sam’s body then let him go and Sam would 100% let him too!! We literally get multiple instances of Sam giving up his bodily autonomy for the sake of Deans possessiveness. But there’s still people out there would like to pretend this show is normal!?

yes, sam loves dean. loves him more than anyone and anything in the world. and yes dean loves sam more than anyone and anything in the world. BUT often times sam is trapped by deans love towards him. codependency traps them both, the difference is that sam tries to break free of it whereas dean often times purposefully perpetuates their codependency. they both love each other, but the way that love shows up in the narrative often leaves sam as a victim and dean as the abuser

Thinking about Dean being in love and absolutely obsessed with Sam in the same way John was with Mary. All consuming, incapable of functioning correctly without each other. Willing to sacrifice anyone and everything without a second thought. Co-dependency that edges on illness. Knowing that John made it that way because it’s the only love he knows.

sam and cas are so... they're like brothers-in-law that are always slightly awkward bc their relationship only exists bc of a different person. and the first few seasons getting to know each other they keep getting pissed off if they exchange more than a few words ("he's an abomination", "i'll hunt you down and kill you", etc) but there's still somehow an inherent admiration there (bc that's Dean's Brother/that's An Angel). and eventually they do become some sort of actual friends. bc along with everything else. they realized that they can be bitchy to each other without toning it down and enable each other's most insane ideas.

compared to sam+dean and cas+dean's relationships, sam+cas are remarkably unaffected by everything that happens. they might have seasons long fights or plots with dean, but with each other they're always just kinda chill. like, yeah, course he's always gonna be there. we're friends and i don't actually like him that much but he is my 2nd closest family member in the world. he can be super annoying but i'd die for him in a heartbeat :)
