Not to be posting Billups angst on a Sunday afternoon, but,,, is Billups' dad dead?

Like, we see paintings of his father in Where Pleasant Fountains Lie, but we only ever meet and hear about his mom. Having a dead dad would also explain why his mom is so concerned with getting him to take the throne, and why he immediately agrees to becoming king after she fakes her death (It also makes Queen Paolana faking her death even more fucked up than it already was).

Idk, maybe I'm stupid and this is super obvious, but that episode has so much going on that I feel like I usually breeze right past all the context clues when watching.

Anyway, it makes me wonder if his father dying had something to do with Billups deciding to join Starfleet. As he says in season 5, "everybody dies, but it's the engineers who really live". If getting murdered via poisoning/ dying in battle/ any other horrible medieval monarch death seemed like a realistic and possible way to go as the king of Hysperia, then the dangers of being a Starfleet engineer probably felt like pretty small potatoes as long as he was having fun.

It’s funny to me people were arguing a little about whether Billups is actually confirmed asexual or not, when I mean… like, he explicitly stated his intentions on staying a virgin forever? Like… if a character said “I exclusively wish to have sexual relations with only my own sex”, you wouldn’t debate if he was actually gay or not, right? Because even if he didn’t say the word homosexual, he said what the word homosexual means.
