There’s so much information out there! Where do I start?? I feel really lost.

Hey you! Sorry it took so long to respond, life happened. Unfortunately.

Yes, it can be very, very overwhelming. Starting is often the hardest part of the craft. I can't speak for every practitioner, but I can speak for myself. Keep in mind I am Pagan, not Wiccan, and I firmly stand by that. My path of learning is biased toward Paganism. This also won't be a list of things I did; this will be a guidance post for your own research.

When you're looking for books, make sure to research who the author is. There are so many out there who make up information, steal ideas from others and other cultures, straight-up lie, or spread information that's been debunked.

Before you do any spellwork, research protection. You will want to know how to keep yourself safe and unbothered by outside forces.

This is a big one. When you research (absolutely anything), cross-reference at least five to six sources. The more you see it, the more likely it is to be true. If it's something niche you can't find very easily, go to more experienced practitioners and ask for further guidance. Some practitioners specialize in certain things, so choose who you ask wisely. For example, I am a Green/Kitchen Witch, so my knowledge resides in the garden and kitchen. I wouldn't come to me about divination.

Don't panic. You're going to face a lot of contradicting information. Just remember that there is truth among the misinformation, and it may take some digging to find it.

Don't lose patience. This takes time. Don't 'speed run' through studying.

Write. Stuff. Down. Write it all down. Keep notes. Write down questions and problems. This is a life saver.

Avoid practitioners who are racist, ableist, homophobic, and/or transphobic (just watch out for bigotry in general). I've noticed that these people have some not-so-great things to say and they will guide you down paths paves of their bigotry.

Avoid people who will ridicule your mistakes.

About your post in which Jason loses his brain mouth filter and rambles all his train of thoughts, imagine if one (or more) of his friends appeared/were mentioned in the middle of this.

People would get a whiplash between all the childhood trauma bomb drop, the depressing thoughts, the cheesy sweet things he thinks about his friends but rarely says (only between them), the adult teen-adult trauma bomb drop, and the random ass thoughts must be the origin of his humor sense.

He would go from casually recalling that time he went days without eating anything but a piece of bread until poison ivy accidentally tripped with him because she hadn't seen him and paid him in apples to not snitch in which way she went to "at least I wasn't hungry when I was dead" to calling one of his friends amazing bc of [hyper specific treat they have] to "ughh that was so embarrasing. Why couldn't that batarang cut down my vocal chords too?" to some ridiculous knee-jerk response when someone asks about that.

oh. THIS.

just generally, Jason is so attentive to people he loves, i think he would also spur some little details about his friends and family that they themselves never noticed.

and the pipeline between random traumatic experiences and this? absolutely devastating. because deep inside, he is still the same second Robin they knew so well.

just imagine Dick trying to soothe him by playing with his hair, when Jason randomly goes in a whole rant like:

"i always hated people touching my hair... reminds me of times when i was earning some cash on streets, if you know what i mean... also i am pretty sure joker rip out a clump of my hair, but that might be wrong... memories are shit like that... reminds me of Roy. Roy is so fricking good with breading hair, Lian adores it. i seriously need to take a few lessons from him before visiting her again..."

or someone trying to distract him by suggesting to help Alfred in a garden, and Jason goes like:

"fuck, not the garden, ew, ew, ew. if i feel the dirt on myself again, i am going to shoot myself in the temple — again. i still can feel worms down my throat, fuck. god. urgh, abort it, abort it, abort it! anyway, right, i need to make it up to Kori for missing branch with her. flowers would do... not red roses, though, she thinks they are too basic... fuck, i wasn't supposed to mention it in front of Dick, he likes buying them to her and she will feel bad if he will— OH MY GOD, dad can you slit my throat again?"

...and that's how the whole family finds out about the batarang incident.

Anders, baby, they had you locked up in solitary FOR A YEAR. That is not, in fact, fortunate. That does, in fact, count as torture.

undeniably the true antagonist to da2 and in my opinion a very clever representation of the chantry's frankly terrifying role in like. all of the major conflicts of da2. but also painting her as inaffably evil or acting out of some diabolical self-serving purpose is (imo) hugely missing the point

#unfortunately all of that was tossed out in favor of a 'actually templars are oppressed too guys :(' plot in DAI so :/ <<< i hate this so much cause actually it could had been done well but its like. well who is oppressing the templars?? uhm?? who is making them take lyrium and teaching mage's babies to be templars since they are children? and everyone is like "hahah idk but we need to restore the chantry's power"

LITERALLY!!! You are so so correct!

I would not have minded (and actually would have enjoyed!) focusing on the plight of templars as well if a.) They didn't try to paint mages as being equally as bad in the process and b.) They did exactly what you said and tied it all back to the people up top who are responsible for many of the worst atrocities plaguing Thedas: The Chantry.

Unfortunately that remains one of my least favorite plot points in all of dragon age because of the complete 180 they did between 2 and Inquisition. This is not a "both sides" issue between the templars and the mages. Sure, one group is being kept controlled rationed drug addiction and brain washing since childhood (terrible!) but the other is literally being forcefully ripped from their parents and forced into a prison tower where they are constantly abused in every manner, made tranquil, have no privacy or free will, and can be completely eradicated at the whims of the Chantry. These are not at all the same.

PLUS They act like this is a Kirkwall specific issue. It's not! I've seen the Harrowing, I've seen the dungeons of Kinloch Hold, I've seen how willing they were to lock all the mages in with demons to save themselves, I've heard Anders talk about being locked in solitary confinement (which in our real world is considered a method of torture) and woken up by being beaten in the head, I've hears him say how mages would jump to their deaths to escape the tower. I've also seen the templars giddily hunt him (and break orders to do so) like he's an animal.

Do not send me back to Ferelden and try to pull this "actually the rebel mages that look suspiciously like Anders are bad and dangerous but the poor little templars :("

And don't even get me started on how the tranquil and their plight are relegated to like 2 conversations and not treated as much a big deal.

But yeah, we should build up this chantry organization regardless of race or whether or not you're a mage (and can I just say making you a noble mage who had a cushy time in the circle is bullshit? Lol).

Hello! What do i do with the residue after finishing a spell? Like, the wax and ashes? What do I do with that?

Hello hello! I'm sorry it took so long to get to this.

With ashes, I sometimes mix them in with salt to create black salt. Do be careful doing this because the spell's ashes carry residual energy that you may not want in certain other spells. When I don't mix it into black salt, I smoke cleanse it then pour it into a large jar and seal it up. Every witch has their own way of discarding ashes, so try and research some options that best suites your needs.

As for wax, I generally smoke cleanse the extra wax and save the scraps to remelt. I use the letter sealing wax, so it's as simple as dropping the scraps back into the spoon to melt. For candle wax, you can keep them in a jar (even the same jar as the ashes) after cleansing them or throw them away, although in my opinion, that seems a bit disrespectful.

Again, each practitioner has their own way of handling 'leftovers', so click around, ask others, see what you can find.

Don’t quote me on this but I think it’s called iris atrophy? My old cat Anders had the same thing going on and I had asked doc about it and he said it was just pretty normal aging changes. Anders didn’t have any glaucoma or anything so there was no eye treatment needed. And he had such a laundry list of issues I didn’t ever bother to ask any other questions like “what is this called”

My apologies this answer took so long <3 I've had this on the books for a while but work took over and haven't been able to log on at all. Hope you enjoy!

always runs hot/warm to the touch. it doesn't quite catch your attention when you hold his hand, but to be really close to him is like always being near a heating lamp lol very comforting in winter and yet seems cool in spring and summer

you are his one and only distraction - whether it's interrupting his thoughts, having a conversation, etc. one look at you and his mind goes blank

get the feeling he doesn't know how to be in a relationship, like he's not helpless or clueless but he struggles to understand your love language and sometimes you need to remind him to show up for you, not to be so reclusive all the time

when he does show up for you, he's very romantic, cups your face when he kisses, likes to put on a record and slow dance, a lot of candlelight dinners with something he made, he goes for the small gestures a lot but they go long away to show he's paying attention and you're on his mind

has a very quiet confidence that takes you back sometimes, like he doesn't need to telegraph his prescence all the time (probably because his natural intensity and his muscles do that all on its own)

he follows your cues in bed; usually soft but passionate. if you want it harder, it may take him a second to get on board, but then he'll have you anyway that you let him and thensome
