Donald Padgett at The Advocate:
A state investigation into the Washington University Transgender Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital has expanded to target therapists and social workers who may have minors seeking gender-affirming care. Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey is seeking redacted or lightly redacted medical records of patients who received care at the facility. The state investigation of the center is one of many currently underway, including one by U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley. The move left the state’s trans and healthcare communities with concern over future access to gender-affirming care for transgender youth in the state, the Missouri Independent reported.
“The attorney general has created a hostile environment for medical providers where they are afraid to stay and practice medicine,” Katy Erker-Lynch, executive director of PROMO, an LGBTQ+ advocacy group in the state, said. Bailey is reviewing the records at the Missouri Division of Professional Registration which oversees the state’s medical licensing as part of the investigation. He had earlier targeted Planned Parenthood Great Plains and Children’s Mercy, a hospital in Kansas City. Bailey has reportedly interviewed 57 healthcare professionals in connection with the investigation. Licensed clinical social worker Kelly Storck spoke with senior investigator Nick McBroom as part of the investigation.
[...]
The Center earlier turned over a spreadsheet providing information regarding patients seeking gender-affirming care, including visits, medications, and other normally private information. The mother of one patient who received care at the Center, a 17-year-old trans boy named Levi, described the investigation as “invasive” and said it was causing unwarranted disruption in their lives. “The state has already basically disrupted our lives,” Becky Hormuth told the Independent. “They’ve disrupted our families, our children’s lives with the legislation that has passed. Then for him to continue going on is even more invasive and damaging.” After Missouri passed a ban on gender-affirming care for minors last year, Bailey issued an emergency rule banning similar care for trans adults as well. In the document laying out the policy, he said these treatments “lack solid evidentiary support” and “pose very serious side effects.” He withdrew the rule when state lawmakers acted. Missouri Gov. Mike Parson, a Republican, signed the ban into law in June. It was quickly challenged in court, but a judge allowed it to go into effect.
Missouri AG Andrew Bailey (R) continues his farcical investigation into gender-affirming care providers, extending his targets to therapists and social workers who assist minors in obtaining gender-affirming care.

Ah! Another dose of Nazism!
Notice how 70% of the workforce is "too female" for Starbucks, but the police forces that regularly murder and brutalize innocent civilians is over 86% male?
I don't know, but it seems to me that police forces aren't hiring the best people for the job and someone should really ask Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey about that. Maybe if they hired more female officers, they wouldn't be paying out millions of dollars in wrongful death suits.
See, I'm doing that fun thing where I'm pointing out people's hypocrisy as if it actually matters. As if the people I'm pointing this out about would see it and think "oh, hey, that is a pretty weird double standard we have and maybe we should re-evaluate our beliefs."
The problem is, at this point, I think most of them are aware at least on some deep level of the absurdity and contradictions inherent in their arguments. They don't care if they're hypocrites. They don't care if their "moral values" don't make sense or change on a dime the moment their Führer demands it.
You can point out hypocrisy all day but it won't have the slightest impact on people with no actual morals or values.
So while I have everyone's attention, I'd like to remind people that whenever Republicans complain about Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, this is what they mean. They believe that society as a whole employs too many black people, that it employees too many women, to many latino people, too many Native American people, too many gay people.
I cannot sound the alarm enough that we are dealing with unabashed evil.
The point is to take your jobs, your livelihoods, your means of supporting your families and surviving!

And this is why our system is fucked.
Andrew Bailey is a bad faith actor. He has not even attempted to hide this.
But it's important to have the rule of law, and it's vital that everyone is treated the same under the law, so this is the system working as it should.
Which is the fucking problem. If your system allows bad faith actors and treats them the same as it treats good faith actors, your system inherently favors bad faith actors. At some point, you're just feeding the coyotes.
I don't have the answer, but I do know it can't be fixed if we're all busy pretending it doesn't need fixed.

Trudy Ring at The Advocate:
Planned Parenthood must turn over some records on transgender health care to Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey, a judge has ruled. Bailey, a Republican, is investigating providers of gender-affirming care in the state, which has outlawed the provision of such care to minors and certain adults. His demand for information from Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri came in March 2023 as part of his investigation of whether Washington University’s Pediatric Transgender Center or other health care entities in Missouri “have engaged in or are engaging in any practices declared to be unlawful,” as he stated in a letter to Planned Parenthood. The Planned Parenthood affiliate then sued Bailey in an attempt to block his demand, saying it was unauthorized and that the attorney general hadn’t shown how Planned Parenthood is directly involved in his investigation. Bailey argued that his request “should stand because he has an affidavit that alleges intentional dishonesty in Plaintiff's medical and billing practices,” St. Louis Circuit Judge Michael Stelzer wrote in his ruling. Ruling in Bailey’s favor, Stelzer said the AG’s office has “broad investigative powers” and that Bailey has the right to obtain any documents that aren’t protected by the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, which provides for patient privacy.
Missouri AG Andrew Bailey (R) has been granted snooping powers on Planned Parenthood of St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri's records for transgender health services.

In making the case that the states have standing this time, the attorneys general contend access to mifepristone has lowered “birth rates for teenaged mothers,” arguing it contributes to causing a population loss for the states along with “diminishment of political representation and loss of federal funds.”

When Andrew Bailey's Brain Machine is Operating at the Victoria Fringe Festival 2024, Not Everything is Meant to Compute!
Andrew Bailey of Atomic Vaudeville fame has a one man show at @IntrepidTheatre #yyjfringe, and while Brain Machine is hard to classify, it's ultimately a #standup #comedy about facing those challenges life throws at you, #computerhistory
Anyone not familiar with Andrew Bailey‘s work may find Brain Machine disjointed and seemingly randomly transitioning from one story to another. It’s like those monologues one sees on a late night talk show, where the host can talk about anything, and audiences will laugh. Although I stopped watching these types of shows when Arsenio Hall’s show went off the air, this spoken word comedy caught my…

This isn't the first time Bailey has butted in to prevent someone who was wrongfully convicted from going free either. Another example that's just as bad is Sandra Hemme, who has also been imprisoned for over 30 years for a murder she didn't commit, because they needed a fall guy to take the blame for the cop who actually murdered someone. There's a reason people in Missouri utterly DESPISE Bailey
