Yes, having a crush on a fictional character is bad. But have you ever had a crush on a fictionalised version of a vaguely problematic historical figure??

I think that Lucifer being in love with God makes all of existence the most tragic heartbreak we can imagine. When the devil speaks of the divine, it must be through tears. When Hozier said, "Do you know I could break beneath the weight of the goodness, Love, I still carry for you?" and John Milton lied, "Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven," and Christopher Marlowe said, "Think’st thou that I, who saw the face of God, And tasted the eternal joys of heaven, Am not tormented with ten thousand hells In being deprived of everlasting bliss?" I think they were saying the same thing

Gave my Toppat OC from Toppat Week a slightly new hairstyle. His name’s Andrew Brandt and he’s a Toppat nurse. He was born a Toppat and his great-grandmother Kate Marlow was a high-ranking Toppat in the late 1800s.

Hey
Sorry for being completely random, and diving into your asks, but I remembered that a story of yours referenced Marvell's To His Coy Mistress, and I recently came across this.
(Which you may well know already, but if not, it's definitely worth passing on/sharing. I think. )
(Not written by a woman, unfortunately, but still.)
Cheers
Ahhhh this is so cool! Thanks so much @margot-le-snail, this is awesome. Sharing the link here for everyone else.
The exchange reminds me a bit of the dialogue between "Passionate Shepherd to His Love" by Christopher Marlowe and "The Nymph's Reply to the Shepherd" by Sir Walter Raleigh. Have you seen those?
Never apologize for bringing poetry to my inbox! And it's lovely to hear from you, thanks for sharing this. 💜

Air Force One (1997)

The premise makes Air Force One sound like the most jingoistic of Die Hard wannabees. While it’s true that the latest American Presidents don't resemble anything close to the protagonist of this movie, the United States’ role as the head of the government and his importance to the country is well used throughout the film - particularly at the end.
U.S. President James Marshall (Harrison Ford) is on Air Force One when terrorists hijack the plane. In the ensuing scuffle, his family is taken hostage and the escape vessel is launched. Undeterred, Egor Korshunov (Gary Oldman) begins making his demands. What the terrorists don’t know is that the President is still on board.
Early in the film, it’s established that President Marshall served in the military. We know he’s got the skills necessary to accurately handle a gun and take down assailants. We see that he is frustrated by the country’s current policy of “waiting to see how this will impact us”. He’s established as a man of action and his family is in danger, which explains why he decides to stay aboard Air Force One. We’ve got the setup and the explanation. Now what? Well, that’s the thing. There’s a lot of tension from these subtle changes to the Die Hard formula. While President Marshall is the best hope the hostages have, by staying on the plane, he’s given the terrorists EXACTLY what they want. Now, there's no escape. In any film in which the lone hero must carefully navigate their limited surroundings and take down the assailants one at a time, their identity remaining secret is key. If Hans Gruber finds out who Holly Gennero-McClane is, it’s all over kind of thing. In Air Force One the man who could be coerced is the President. The stakes don't get much higher.
Pitted against the ever-charming and charismatic Harrison Ford, we’ve got Gary Oldman, who plays a fantastic villain. Egor Korshunov is a ruthless extremist but he’s not a loon. His ideologies are all twisted but once in a while, he makes a fair point. Just enough that if you were having a conversation with him, he would stop you dead in your tracks and force you to carefully contemplate what you’d say next. The fact that he feels like a real person - he cares for his men, he has a selfless (though morally wrong) goal, he perfectly understands what he is doing and what will happen to him - makes him even more despicable than if he were a cartoon. He’s a great bad guy you love to hate and you can’t wait to see what will happen when he and the President finally face off.
Written by Andrew W. Marlowe, Air Force One makes great use of its setting. The plane is big enough for people to sneak around it and has several unique features - defenses, specs, that sort of thing - that eventually come up. The film constantly finds new ways to raise the stakes, maintain the tension, give you that sigh of relief you were asking for, and then catch you off-guard with a detail you’d forgotten about, at which point the cycle repeats itself.
So Air Force One indulges in several clichés of the genre and ultimately proves to be pure escapism. Is that really so wrong when the 2-hour running time flies by like nothing? A more substantial criticism would be to point out some of the dated special effects but they were good for the time so that feels unfair. Wolfgang Petersen is a great director who knows how to wring the sweat from his audience. That's what really matters.
I'm going to risk embarrassing myself and say that Air Force One features the second-greatest fictional U.S. President of all time - the greatest being President Thomas Whitmore from Independence Day. If that's not enough to entice you, the film offers a terrific villain and loads of tension. This would be a great pick to sit down and watch with your dad. (On DVD, January 2, 2022)

My Books of 2023
We’re back to another of my annual posts. In past years I have tried to pick five books I’ve read to highlight, though it doesn’t always work out that way. Last year I stumbled, and I fear that this year will be even more of a stumble. Past entries in this series: My Books in 2022 My Five Books of 2021 My Five Books of 2020 My Five Books of 2019 My Five Books of 2018 I probably could pick…

Marlowe covered her mouth with her hand, but it merely muffled the giggle that left her. "I appreciate the honesty." She managed to say before she was full out laughing again at his slip up. She'd had way worse said to her before and she could tell he really didn't mean it, so she was giving him a pass. Maybe also because she thought he was kind of cute, but she wouldn't admit to that part.
"I guess we can try it. I think the world will be shocked at the revelation that I do my own hair and make up, but I'm kind of particular." She beamed before turning away, moving over to the vanity and sitting down. "You can do your thing and I'll just ... do my best to pretend you aren't here snapping pictures of me." Usually an easy task, but she was keenly aware of him right now.
Wes gave her a soft smile. "It's nice to meet you too." He chuckled softly, shrugging. "I'm glad that I can come off confident because I can assure you I am not." He told her. "But really, I thought maybe it'd be nice for the shoot to get some pictures of you getting ready." He then realized it might come off wrong. "Not, uh, not like you undressed or anything."
#i'm totally down for multiple threads!#saw you like andrew garfield so i could use my oc that has him if you want.#just would need to figure out how i'd want to translate his character to modern verse since he's a star wars oc#{ marlowe reverie ; interaction ;; }#littlewrensx

I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm

Warnings: Smut (Oral F receiving, sex sex sex)
Word Count: 1.3k
Andrew x Reader (y/n)
The laughter of our friends echoes down the hall as he guides me further and further away from them. We’re hosting the annual holiday party this year for the first time. It was our third holiday season together but the first one in our new home.
“They’re going to notice we’re gone, we’re going to get caught,” I say while tugging his hand. I can’t help the fit of giggles that follow.
“Love, we’re only going to get caught if you’re loud,” Andrew replies, and the heat building in my stomach drops. We continue down the long hallway until we hit the staircase. I’m ready to start tiptoeing up them, trying to remind myself to avoid the squeaky stair halfway up, when Andrew pulls us into the small closet built under the stairs instead, causing me to gasp.
“This is way too close to everyone else!” I hiss under my breath.
He laughs while tugging me in further. “We have about ten minutes before Marlow comes looking for me; better make them count.”
My protests quickly fail as he attaches his lips to my throat, my ultimate weakness. He pulls me against him as he pushes the door shut with a soft click. I’m holding on to his arms as though they’re life preservers keeping me from drowning in all of him. I feel the low rumble of his laugh as he peppers soft kisses trailing up to my lips.
As soon as Andrew’s lips touch mine, I feel myself drown. It’s intoxicating as I spiral from our kiss. I let my hands roam over his arms, chest, anything I can touch. It seems as though he feels the same way with the way his hands are pulling my dress up over my thighs. I can feel his fingers slip over the outside of my thong, looping into each side. With one quick movement, he pulls them down and falls to his knees simultaneously. He looks up through his lashes at me, and god, is it a beautiful sight. His pupils are so blown out that I can barely make out the green of his eyes I love so much. I’m breathless looking at how gorgeous this man is. I feel lucky.
“I’ve been thinking about you all day, love. I need to taste you.” Andrew sounds desperate as he plants kisses on my thighs, almost like he’s waiting for me to permit him.
“Please,” my voice comes out breathless, almost inaudible, but it’s all he needs. He takes his fingers and separates my folds to give me one long swipe of his tongue. I forget our rules, where we are, for a moment, and moan in relief. Finally, my man is where he belongs.
“You have to stay quiet, love, or I can’t let you finish.”
My hands instantly go to the back of Andrew’s head. “Sorry, sorry, don’t stop.”
“My needy girl, what am I going to do with you?” He doesn’t give me time to respond as he expertly finds my clit. I’m focusing hard on not making a sound, but I can’t help the whimper that comes out of me when he inserts a single finger. The scrape of his beard on the inside of my thighs is deliciously painful.
“More, please give me more.” I’m close, something that always happens fast with him. I feel him chuckle, which just makes my clit hum in pleasure, but he complies. I feel the second finger enter me, and I slowly become untethered. My hands are lost in his unruly curls as I hold him against me, chasing my release. His fingers curl inside of me, and I come entirely undone. It’s hard to remember to stay quiet when he makes me feel this good. When he’s sure I’ve come down, he rises from his place on his knees.
“I need to feel you,” Andrew whispers against my ear as he turns me around. I hear the zipper of his pants before he shrugs them down his thighs. He places the crown of his cock against my entrance, and I can’t help but push up against it; the anticipation is unbearable.
“My desperate girl can’t wait for me, can she?” My head shakes in response as I hear him tsk behind me. “You know the rules, babe. Use your words.” He slowly removes his cock so he isn’t touching me anymore.
“Please, please. I need you. I can’t wait.” He’s right, I am desperate for him.
I hear Andrew’s low chuckle behind me as he repositions himself at my entrance. He doesn’t give me any warning at all before he’s bottoming out inside of me. The mix of our moans fills the tiny closeted space while he brings up a hand to my neck. With his hand slightly tightening on my throat and the other gripped onto my hip, he starts to thrust.
“You’re so wet for me. Just for me. God, I love being inside you.” Andrew murmurs in my ear. I feel myself melting for him. I press my ass back and spread my legs even more, trying to get as much of him as I can.
“You need this too, don’t you, babe? My naughty girl, I love when she comes out to play.” I lightly moan in response to his words when his hand gives a warning squeeze around my throat.
“My naughty girl still needs to be quiet. Wouldn’t want to be found, would we?”
“No, sorry, please.” My breath hitches in my throat as Andrew thrusts into me at a steady pace. His hand slowly travels up my side as his languid thrusts continue until he reaches the peak of my breast. My nipple is hard, and I need more from him. I don’t have to say anything as he pinches my nipple and gives me the pressure I am desperately searching for.
“You feel so good, pleasedon’tstop.” I barely recognize my own voice anymore. I love when sex with Andrew sends me into another dimension.
“Let me feel you come, love, come undone for me.” My orgasm is right on the surface as I listen to his words, but once his hand deserts my breast and makes its way to my clit I am entirely done for.
It’s hard not to whimper as I come on Andrew’s cock, and it’s hard not to moan when I feel him release inside of me. It feels as though there’s no more air in this closet, just Andrew and I. He stays behind me for a moment, maybe two, just holding me in our post-coital bliss. When he’s ready, he finally pulls out of me, and I can’t help but whimper at the empty feeling.
Andrew moves around me and cleans me up with my discarded panties. After he puts them on the shelf out of view, “I’ll come back for these when everyone leaves.” He says as he presses a kiss to my temple.
“You better not forget them, I swear, Andrew.”
“Swear what?” He presses a kiss to my lips. “I know how to get on your good side, love. I’m not worried.” He laughs that glorious laugh; it’s the best sound I’ve ever heard. He unlocks the closet door and looks back at me, “ready to go back?”
“Do I look okay?” I ask as I smooth my dress back out, trying to look as normal as possible. Andrew takes my wrists and stops my movements.
“You, my love, are ethereal.” A single kiss to my forehead. “Let’s go.”
As we walk back down the hallway , the voices get louder and louder, seemingly right on time; a small pair of footsteps is running towards us.
“Uncle Annndreeeewww!!” Marlow bellows. “I’ve been looking for you! Have you been playing hide and seek?” She erupts into a fit of giggles as Andrew lifts her above his head.
“Absolutely was, Mar. Good job! You found us.”
I can’t help but laugh behind them as we walk into our living room to be greeted by everyone else.
“You two were gone for quite some time.” Our friend calls from the other side of the room.
Andrew’s quick to cover Marlow’s ears before he responds. “You know me, I would never worship and tell.”

Out and About with the Bridgerton Cast in March
March was another busy month for the cast of Bridgerton, out and about during March. I may not have all work and appearances and if I have missed an appearance
To begin, Jonathan Bailey and James Phoon were continuing in their respective Shakespeare productions on stage - Jonathan in Richard II and James in Much Ado About Nothing - both of whom have received great reviews. Richard ll is on at The Bridge Theatre until 10 May. Much Ado About Nothing is on at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane until 5 April.
For new appearances lets being with our most recent lead, Nicola Coughlan who recently attended the Netrogena influencer event 'A Night of Main Character Energy' as part of her partnership with Neutrogena. In addition to attending at the Neutrogena influencer event, Nicola also attended the BFI Flare viewing of The Wedding Banquet along with Jessica Madsen, Jack Murphy, and Michelle Mao. The Wedding Banquet is a film directed by Andrew Ahn, who also directed two episodes of Bridgerton season 3 (episodes 3 and 4).
We saw some of the amazing supporting actors out and about in March. Everyone's favourite footman, Oli Higginson, performed in a workshop of Austenland the musical at The Savoy Theatre in London, Kathryn Drysdale attended the Smiley Charity Film Awards recently, Martins Imhangbe attended the European Premiere of the movei The Alto Knight and Sam Phillips began the month in a limited run of the play A Man For All Seasons at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury.
Adjoa Andoh was in attendance at the press night for the play Dear England at the National Theatre during the month, and ended the month at the Dr Who season 2 premiere, for those that don't know she played Martha Jones's mother in Dr Who in the early years of the reboot. Before Adjoa had a date with The Dr she had a date with Royalty (real Royalty that is), attending a reception to launch the Queen's Reading Room Medal hosted by Her Majesty Queen Camilla, joined by His Majesty King Charles III, at Clarence House.

March was the month of Paris Fashion week and Bridgerton cast members attended some of the events. Victor Alli was the first to be seen at Paris Fashion Week when he attended the McQueen Autumn Winter 2025 show then season 1 lead Phoebe Dynevor attended the Louis Vuitton show and a day later we saw the season 2 and season 4 leads, Simone Ashley and Yerin Ha, attended the Chanel show.
During March there were a number of film premieres that Bridgerton cast members were in attendance at, in addition to the premiere that Martins attended some of the Bridgerton cast had the own movies premiere. First up, Florence Hunt attended the premiere of her new movie Mix Tape at the SXSW festival, and she was also busy with associated press and promotion, however, the two biggest movie premieres for the Bridgerton cast in March was of course Picture This starring Simone Ashley and Black Bag with Rege Jean Page.

Picture This, starring and produced by Simone Ashley released this month on Prime Video at the beginning of the month, with Simone being highly visible throughout the month with the promotion for the movie. In addition to the world premiere in London Simone also attended a special screening of the movie in New York followed by a surprise appearance at a Bollywood dance class in New York, as well as doing a number of interviews both online and on more established shows and podcasts. She also had a number of magazine interviews and photoshoots, including for Variety, and a cover for Defined and WhoWhatWear.
As mentioned above, Simone wasn't the only one who had a big movie released in March as the movie Black Bag staring Rege Jean Page was also released. As with Simone, Rene was very present with promotion for his movie in interviews and on talk shows, as well as a cover for Icon magazine. Before the release of Black Bag Rege kicked off his busy March at the Vanity Fair Oscars party.

Whew! That is alot, and as I said I am sure I have missed some appearances and work during March for our favourite Bridgerton cast members.
