Just posted chapter 19 of The Android and we got our first antagonist POV chapter (but not our last!) and I am loving everyone's theories.

When I first started posting this fic I couldn't have dreamed that people would be so invested in what's happening in this world I've built, but I am loving it.

Here are some of the guesses on this last chapter (some of them have been edited for length):

“Ohhh I have so many theories about Michael. One being that he's actually an android himself, and another being that he was involved in Project LifeSpan in some capacity, and has perhaps taken it over from Chuck. Also, he's giving major Littlefinger "Chaos Is a Ladder" vibes...”

“Michael in this universe could be so many things… but a disgruntled son of Chuck Shurley? Disgusted by the androids made in his father’s image? I mean, as usual, fuck John Winchester, he can die in a hole. But I am loving the layers your world has!”

“Michael intrigues me, and on absolutely no grounds whatsoever I think he knows about/was in some way involved in Project LifeSpan and it's where he developed his anti-android vendetta.”

“YOOOOOOO!!! Just finished reading everything so far. I’ve adored all the twists... I’m also dying to see what happens when Castiel meets John. Also, was Michael mentioned earlier? Gonna have to go back and look.”

“My current wild-ass theory is that Michael is actually Chuck, uploaded into an even fancier stealth cyborg body. (But maybe not. I bet John and Gordon’s terrorist cells have pretty good “prove you’re 100% human” tests…)”

“Michael is making moves to be the Godfather and John is about to be pushed off the board... Especially if his android vendetta is truly just dressed up corporate espionage. I think he's behind the Seraph programme, funding it maybe.”

“I think Michael is an android... and he sees other androids as competition for power.”

“And will Michael want something from Dean? (omg using him as a vessel would be insane.) Does he know about Cas? Are they all connected? (The military where we already got Zachariah and Naomi so Michael fits there?? And he became a part of the movement a year ago?? After Cas escaped??)”

I love seeing how everyone’s brains are working overtime. Some of you are off in the weeds and some of you are honestly scaring me with how close you’re getting. Can’t wait for you all to see what’s next!

So this concept is everything that started the whole shebang ! I've been wanting to do a DBH and SPN crossover since 2020, and I've always imagined a rewrite of the Crypt Scene in Goodbye Stranger in the Detroit: Become Human universe with Naomi acting as a more agressive AI than Amanda in the game :3

I often think about (and wrote a fic about) trans woman Dean being forced out of the closet before she's even conceptualized herself by Cas resurrecting her as a woman, but now i'm thinking of the added twist of cas showing up in a female vessel. Maybe she wants to match with Dean, make herself easy to relate to. Of course Dean has already built up whatever ressurected her in her brain and come up with her own (predatory, sexual) reasons for why it made her a woman. (Why would it carve a hole in her if it didn't want to fuck her through it?) She's completely thrown off by Cas being a girl. Makes it a lot harder for her to recognize the naked hunger she's being watched with, even though she had herself all ready for it.

i'm obsessed with this thank you. this will be the rest of my day

Must-read Destiel fics - my superduper Nov. 5th rec list

Three years ago, on the blessed day of November 5th, 2020, I had:

never seen an episode of SPN,

only had a vague inkling of what the two pale coconuts were on about,

and I hee-heed and ha-had with the rest of Tumblr about the love confession scene and the Internet errupting in an unparalleled craze

At first I thought, that's it.

Then ... I got curious. I watched some YouTube Destiel supercuts. I read some fic (I think @andhumanslovedstories beautiful Cas/OC fic was my entry point?). I read meta. I watched some more YouTube scene packs. I read even more fic. I watched some of S4, some of S1, some random fan fav episodes. And then Destiel lodged itself so deeply, thouroughly into my brain that it took over and hasn't relinquished control in the last two years. The most tenacious, pervasive brain worm to date.

This ship got it all, and this fandom got it all, and there's such delightful, powerful, batshit crazy, romantic, expertedly crafted fanfic out there, it's like being a starving child in the world's biggest candystore.

So without further ado, here's some of my very favorite fics from this infinite trove, with all my thanks to the wonderful writers who keep delighting and awing me with their dedication and craft. There'll of course be some recency bias at play but you can browse my bookmarks over here to chose from over 100 excellent and well-curated SPN stories.

💕CATEGORY: SWOONWORTHY💕

Wildly romantic fics that warm you up from the inside.

It Won't Be Perfect by someonetoanyone (10K words) Summary: Dean daydreams about what it'd be like to let himself love Cas freely.

Why I love it: the humor, the spot-on characterizations, and the quintessential late season Destiel-ness of being so deeply love with your best friend that it's too big to actually do anything about. Just. So warm.

Rock Lobster by Ginger Fail (13K) Summary: Cas decides that the lobsters Dean planned to cook need to get back home. Impromptu beach vacation ensues!

Why I love it: This road trip story is fresh and invigorating like a sea breeze! Fun, entertaining and full of deep, deep fondness.

Seek to Know You Better by ahurston (32K)

Summary: On a road trip, Dean and Cas play the 36 Questions That Lead To Love.

Why I love it: They’re so deliberatedly, carefully starting a relationship here. They try so hard to bridge the gaps and meet each other halfway. A very mature take on love that feels nourishing.

Fics that make you go BARK BARK BARK.

samson went back to bed by piesexuality (9k, @twoheadedcas) Summary: Cas strikes a deal with Chuck - keeping his family together comes at the price of their free will.

Why I love it: What if Cas got his revenge for the Mala'ak box? What if love came at the price of everything you've been fighting for? What if a story twisted the knife oh so sweetly? Each word of this one lands a punch. Made me insane in the best of ways (cue pinned fanart).

In sickness by @saintedcastiel (41K) Summary: S4 redux but Castiel has a fetish: giving Dean the sniffles.

Why I love it: This one is soooo. Can barely find words for it. It taps into Cas' early season alienness and psychosexual obsession with Dean, brilliantly demonstrates Casdean vs Samruby parallels, and each word is just. Perfect. ARGH!

so much smoke in a hall full of mirrors by AreYouReady (6K, @autisticandroids ) Summary: Godstiel is losing his heavenly war. Crowley provides a compliant Dean-doll for him to release his frustrations upon.

Why I love it: Urgh, this one is sooo dark. Taps into the scary, intimidating and alien aspects of Godstiel so well. Gore, consent and psychosexual issues galore. Delicious.

Special mention: In a Parked Car, Exhuming Ophelia by @an-android-in-a-tutu (17K). Still need to comment properly ;)

💣CATEGORY: EMOTIONAL WRECKING BALLS💣

Angsty fics that tear you to pieces to remake you better.

What Used To Be Mine by someonetoanyone (48K words) Summary: Dean never makes his apology prayer in Purgatory - Cas dies, Dean mourns.

Why I love it: Oh god, this is a heavy hitter. Just, straight up insurmontable grief, packaged in poetic, raw language to make you shed tears and tears. Loved it so much.

Ignite your bones By ilovehowyouletmefall (67K, @angelinthefire) Summary: Dean accepts Chuck's deal: killing Sam to save the world.

Why I love it: Cruuuuel cruel premise for a story that doesn’t pull its punches. It gets dark in Dean’s head and everyone around him suffers. Wonderfully written. The ending set my brain on fire.

Right Where you Left Me by outdean (93K, @armandgender)

Summary: Cas comes back from the Empty after 10 years to find Dean married to another man.

Why I love it: This one is a riiiide. When grief has become a part of you but your love comes back… When you return from the dead and have to carve a new space into the world for yourself... nothing is easy here, but the emotions are INTENSE. Also, autistic!Cas for the win.

Special mention: Who Ya Gonna Call? by saintedcastiel (50K) and Clear skies in spring by enochianprayer (WIP)

💥CATEGORY: EPIC RIDES💥

Expansive, wild adventures with lots of ups and downs

Spirit of the West by teen_dean (140K, @urne-buriall)

Summary: An 18y old Dean grew up on a horse farm – cue veterinarian Castiel. The summer of a lifetime ensues.

Why I love it: So this is one of my very favorite stories, ever ever, and I cannot recommand enough to immediatedly suscribe to the author’s Substack to be able to follow it in „real time“ next summer. It’s cinematic, rich, full of darkness and light, it’s everything a story can aspire to, I’m just. I just really love it.

Second Verse, Same as The First by LaLaCat1 (135K)

Summary: Endverse!Cas is sent back to the start of S1 and is determined to make things right this time round.

Why I love it: a desperate and badass Cas, unfridging everyone, a thrilling plot, moments of awesome for the entire cast, gripping action scenes, a romance for the ages… this is a genuinely amazing story.

back road, black road by eden22 (167K)

Summary: 18y old Sam gets kidnapped by Hell on his way to Stanford. Dean tries to deal.

Why I love it: So this one’s not Destiel-centric but does have wonderful Destiel moments. It’s also very heavy on the gore and the angst (NOT for the faint of stomach), but expertly crafted, fascinating and frankly it deserves more love. Held my breath for half the read and never knew where it’d take me.

Special mention: It's The End Of The World (As We Know It) by tiamatv (140K)

Uproariously funny stories about the intricate rituals these two weirdos get up too.

Summary: Dean teaches a newly human Cas how to be „a real man“.

Why I love it: Dean coming to Big Self-Realizations while trying to have platonic threesomes with Cas is so perfect. Very endearing, tender and funny. Also, smoking hot sex.

Summary: Dean downloads Grindr for Cas

Why I love it: Just. Late season Dean being deranged about Cas’ sexuality while everyone watches on in utter confusion. Equally hilarious and deeply moving

Homie can I ask for fic recs!! Despite being on tumblr for a decade I’m just now finally watching supernatural and I’m loving it

wow, you held out an impressively long time! xD

i'm going to assume you're pretty much asking for destiel recs, since i haven't really read any gen or other ships and you didn't specify otherwise. here's the thing about destiel fic: there is so much of it. as of right now, there are 121,502 castiel/dean winchester works on ao3, and they go back to 2008. (and that's not even counting the fic on fanfiction.net, livejournal, tumblr, etc.)

i'm not saying any of that abundance is bad, not at all, but for ME PERSONALLY, i tend to be really picky about destiel fic because i feel like a lot of people sort of, well, go with fanon characterization instead of canon characterization. which is fine, you do you, but there is just so much to sift through and considering that i lived through the live airing of the show from 2013-2020 and kinda had my soul crushed with the finale, i've got a wee bit of trauma in that arena so i'm not often in the mood to go digging for gold, if that makes sense.

all that to say, a lot of my recs are old classics and not new classics, and there are a lot of fandom-titled classics that i just haven't gotten to reading yet. so i'm going to split my recs here into 'ones i've read and loved' and 'ones i know lots of other people have loved'. also, my tastes tend to run toward 'really good fleshed-out longfic au', in case that's not your thing.

my favorite destiel fic got taken deleted from ao3, but mercifully i was able to download an epub that i have in my 'deleted fics' google drive at this link: Kingdom Come by cheesewithmy dean and cas are both veterans, dean struggling to keep the roadhouse afloat while also building artificial limbs for people who need them. he finds a homeless cas using the sink for a bath and gives him a meal and a place to sleep, unaware that cas is the reason dean lost his arm in the war. they grow closer before cas's guilt drives him to run. he reaches out on the same night a couple of dick roman's goons decide to take dean's mechanical arm by force, hears dean gasp out that he's glad he got to talk to him one more time, and drops everything to race across the country on the hope that dean is still alive. a story of two depressed, traumatized, mildly to severely suicidal people learning how to live again.

A Beginner's Guide to Communing with the Dead by suspiciousflashlight T 77k dean is a cop who works on supernatural cases, and he's just desperate enough to break the law and summon a Class A Forbidden Entity for help. a grumpy one.

C-S-T-L by komodobits M 90k set in a scifi future, dean is a soldier assigned to work with the emotionless android C-S-T-L. one day, cas begins to feel.

The Girlfriend Experience by rageprufrock E 15k not my absolute favorite, but a must-read.

So Says The Sword by komodobits E 85k The briefing was simple: ‘Stand guard over the Michael Sword until the battle is ready to commence. Await further instructions.’

Convenient Husbands by Annie D (scaramouche) E 40k marriage of convenience/telepathic bond between hunter dean and creature cas.

The Ends of Earth by darkforetold E 47k post-apocalyptic steampunk, cas saves dean from execution and then gets saved right back.

Clean Air by anactoria E 121k Centuries after the surface of the earth was devastated by an unknown disaster, the remnants of humanity live in a series of vast underground silos, each unaware of the existence of the others.

For the inhabitants of Silo 34, the silo is the world, and the only world they know. Questions about the outside world are forbidden, and asking them is what got Dean Winchester's parents killed. He isn't even sure himself that they weren't crazy.

Contrapasso by takadainmate M 60k Inside the town that doesn't exist, there is murder and madness and a creeping cold that leave Dean, Cas and Sam fighting for their lives and for each other. As the town shifts and changes around them, descending into anarchy, the three of them find it increasingly difficult to tell what's real and what's not.

The Parts of Our Sum by Annie D (scaramouche) E 55k Castiel, a former soldier, has worked for the Company his entire life. Then a case involving mangled bodies washing up on shore in an idyllic lakeside community puts him on the trail of a man calling himself Castiel, and the dangerous web he’s entangled in. Dean is used to living in a world of monsters, but the End of Days is a little out of his wheelhouse. Especially when his only ally is determined to keep his secrets behind his teeth, even as they draw closer together. Still, he intends to see things through, no matter how dark the path ahead gets.

So, I came up with a monster type that could "survive" the horrible luck that the brothers have with losing everyone they care about. This amazing writer read my little write-up and after we chatted, she began her story, then began sharing it on Tumblr. It's detailed, well thought-out, and has me on the edge of my seat with each chapter. It's an emotional rollercoaster with twists and turns that just leave you wanting so much more. I love this one so much.

This is the second part of a story created in a Bang with trueform Castiel (but angels in that world are balls of wispy light). It won't make much sense without reading The Angel of Emetgis V first, but view it as a 2 for 1. The world-building is amazing, the love/friendship story warms my heart even if (or because) Dean has moral issues with Castiel taking vessels.

This is a WIP time travel goes wrong story, where younger and older versions of the brothers meet. The dynamic between the 4 brothers is precious. So is the fact that Young Dean realizes pretty quickly that his older self has feelings for Castiel. Can't wait to see Rowena thrown in the mix!

This was a great fake relationship cover story! So sweet and cute, with a wonderfully bumbling Sam and improvising Gabriel. Wonderful read the fluff is wonderful.

We Build Ourselves by @sharkfish

It’s so cute and I just love it! In a world where android are non-sentient slaves and not sentient beings, one hides his sentience until he started having feelings for one particular human. It’s great how the plot progressed and how the author uses “an android walking in…” as if it’s a joke. It’s a great concept. I love how understanding and accepting Dean is in this. How curious but mature Castiel is compared to the show when it’s later seasons in the show that Cas learns of social cues and typical social expectations. I know many love to write that which I love but it wouldn’t suit in this case. I’m glad the author thought so too. I love how it’s still the character Castiel with only minor changes that works amazing for the story, truly. I highly recommend this story as a great introduction to this author, but I have read so much of this author’s works. They are a lover of Supernarural and writing about everything from real lived people could have to alternate universes with Ceacalia(msp?) and space. They’re very diverse in their tropes and genres. They have something for pretty much everyone.

I think this story is just incredible from start to finish. I love that it’s not your typical love story, that there are hurdles (real life realism) before we get to that sweet ending. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions that had me literally on the end of my seat, scared, excited, hoping. It was just amazing.

This is sexy, the pacing is ON POINT, and it's funny. Funny and sexy will get me every time. I'm so into the characterization H illustrates for Dean, too. Characterization is why we're all here, right? We love these characters, so we want to celebrate them, and H does an excellent job of fleshing out Dean's mannerisms and darker leanings, and plays with his mischievous nature. Here's to another writer who gives good Dean. As I said in my reblog, even later in life, when Dean's a little more jaded, a little harder, he still yearns for connection and comfort. He's still Dean — still loves to touch and be touched, still beautiful, as we all know. This is sexy and sweet and it gave me a little ache in the heart area, but Beth's love for Dean shines through.

If you're reading this, you probably know Kym. (I like to call her Kymothée.) This fic is a few years old, so I shouldn't have taken this long to read it. This means you shouldn't wait any longer to read it, either!

It's sweet. It's believable. It tugs on your heartstrings, but it isn't sappy. I like this OC (Katrina). I want to give her a hug and thank her for taking care of Dean. The Mark was never easy for him, and he wasn't easy to be around for the people who loved him. Yet, Katrina meets the challenge with grace and empathy, and passion. This is an established relationship, but you don't need to know the story from whence Katrina came (although I'd recommend reading anything Annie writes.) It's angsty but not unrealistically so or without merit. It's just a really nice little slice of time.

Destiel, but the pairing is not the focus of the story. This is a complicated world that is close to canon, but some folks have made some different decisions along the way. John hunts with Samuel Campbell, raising his sons while seeking revenge for the death of his wife. Young Dean fears for his little brother's life, and calls his other grandfather, Henry Winchester (#notdead), to take him away and save him. What ensues is fascinating and I can't wait for the next chapter!

i think castiel angel of the lord deserves to be first resurrected, and second experience pay-to-win mobile apps. i would argue it's sort of his right to somehow manage to max out one of dean and sam's credit cards on a farming game, or perhaps some shitty gambling app that he got reaaaally caught on. he then gets to lie and go. ohh. i don't know anything about maxed credit cards ending in 2089, dean :( unrelated but i am currently top of the leaderboard in the usa on lucky clover legit gambling big win for android 💪🪽🥰
