How Lauki’s Story Might End

I’ve been thinking a lot about Lauki these days, including how their story might end. I remember a few years ago Eph said that no one had come close to guessing the ending of PH. That was a while back, but even now, I still can’t imagine exactly how it will wrap up, and we still have a while before the story ends. The only thing I feel certain about is that Lauki won’t stay together by the end (please don't kill me for saying this). Maybe they don't separate forever, but after everything that’s happened, it’s hard to picture a "they lived happily ever after" for them. After the fall of the Phantom Scythe, how would they even function as a couple in ordinary life? Their relationship was born out of extraordinary circumstances, and both still carry wounds that will take a long time to heal.

Kieran, for one, won’t stay in Ardhalis. I can't see that happening. Even if people don’t know his identity as the Purple Hyacinth—or if only a handful do—it still wouldn’t be safe for him (and for Lauren). And beyond safety, he needs space to heal. His journey feels like one of self-forgiveness and redemption, and I don’t think he’ll find that in the same city where he spilled so much blood. I can see him faking his death in the end—symbolically “killing” the Purple Hyacinth so he can finally live as Kieran White. To the world, it would look like he’s gone, but Lauren would know the truth. She’d carry the knowledge that he escaped and is alive somewhere, but he's unreachable. This is bittersweet and it's so fitting for Lauki to be honest. In fact, I can imagine her helping him stage it—maybe she’s the one who “kills” the Purple Hyacinth. That would tie back to the prologue imagery: the gunshot (Lauren) and the bloodied hyacinths (the death of the Purple Hyacinth). My theory is that those panels represent Lauren helping Kieran to fake his death (or it's the fall of the monarchy because purple hyacinths are the royal crest, but that's a theory for another time).

Meanwhile, I don't think Lauren would leave Ardhalis. Ever since the Greychapel episodes when Kieran called out privilege and the state of the south shore, I feel like it has opened Lauren's eyes. Whether or not she stays a detective, I think she’d be deeply involved in rebuilding the city and fighting for its most vulnerable. Like Kieran, she has guilt to work through, but it’s different. Kieran has literal blood on his hands, the hundreds of lives taken as an assassin. They both have healing to do. Lauren’s burden is heavy too, but it’s not the same, and once she learns the truth about Dylan's death she will start to move on (I'm sure we'll finally get the Dylan reveal in s3 part 2). In my opinion her role seems to be about creating something new out of the wreckage, while his is about finding redemption away from it.

That’s the bittersweet beauty of Lauki: they’ve been helping each other heal, but their paths might ultimately diverge—Lauren staying to rebuild, Kieran leaving to forgive himself. Still, I can’t see the story ending without them reuniting somehow. Maybe it’s years later, maybe it’s an open ending where they find each other but we’re left wondering if they get back together. I like the thought of Kieran sending Lauren a letter when he plans on coming back, one that uses a phrase only she would recognize. Or maybe they meet again on the bridge where it all began, where they first made their deal. Their story would come full circle, with them meeting again not as two broken souls scarred by trauma and loss, but as people who have finally begun to heal. They'd meet as lighter, freer versions of themselves, no longer defined by their past.

That’s how I’d love for it to end. I know this is more a headcanon than theory, but it's one I can completely picture. Either way, I'm pretty sure the ending of PH will be bittersweet.

i will forever HATE this idea. god forbid a system just exist peacefully. not every system has to be in a cycle of misery and hatred. trust and believe that shit isn't fun anyway

i get happy when i see other systems just enjoying the company of their headmates. having silly moments and playing games with them. doing mundane stuff with their headmates. that makes me happy to see other people get to have that

forcing the idea that endogenic systems are actually traumatised is incredibly harmful, because it can lead to doubt. it can cause the uncovering of trauma that maybe shouldn't have been found in the first place, or wasn't ready to be found (IF it's there). it can cause false memories. it can change so much about a system and their perception of their life, and i think that's so unnecessary

Seeing people call Luke a himbo or stupid when he is objectively not is odd to me and there’s been a weird influx of it

with whatever like post apocalyptic war he’s apart of in his story has very obviously given him ptsd, he’s been alone for a LONG time which drives anyone to be weird like him to cope with it, and on top of that he’s quite literally on the equivalent of steroids

they promote the wrong ideals and that is proven by violet (the MAIN CHARACTER) consistently across all three books. also it's especially obvious in IF with the fliers who point out IN CANON that basgiath isn't a good school

and whilst we're at it

navarre are baddies in the story

yes the venin are the big bad but navarre is a bad country and the whole revolution was about leaving navarre because they are in the wrong. navarre leadership (both military and royalty) are bad and dangerous and the series would be incomplete if it ends with them all pretending like 600 years of oppression, lies, and cruelty hasn't happened. come on people, navarre is at major fault for the state of the continent in the series timeline

one of my big gripes with supernatural as it went on was that the boys were WAY too well dressed. you’re telling me that these guys who get by on CREDIT CARD FRAUD and HUSTLING are buying perfectly fitted suits and even worse are taking the time to IRON THEM????

i can almost buy it with sam, it makes sense that he would actually take the time to steam his shirts and shit but DEAN??? OUR DEAN????

we all know he’s shoving that suit into a duffle and shaking it out before putting it back on.

I know they want the actors to look good but having their jackets be a little big, their trousers a little short, shirts wrinkled, the colours not matching perfectly. IT COULD HAVE BEEN SO GOOD.

The name of the series is andor that is the surname of the cassian jeron andor so OFC the story revolves around HIM ofc the characters in that series revolve around him because they are showing you how this grumpy brooding thief became the rebellion's sharpest knife and their messiah.

something about zaki and tamon having the exact opposite experience with their spiritual powers gets me ngl

zaki saw ghosts as a curse and something that only got him hurt by alienating him from everyone else while tamon, even though he still felt disconnected from living people, found solace in his friendship with ghosts and thought of them as the only way to have the "normal life" experience (like his date with angel in his introduction chapter)

watching the les mis staged concert (2019 version) and i feel like I could write an essay about why I don't like Michael Ball as Javert. it's like he learned all the notes and none of the note lengths or rhythms. i literally don't think he sings a single line as written. like there's using a bit of rubato and rhymtic variation to add some colour and emotion, and then there's THAT. I don't think it even makes sense for Javert's character - he is the personification of the law, he lives by it and sees the world as black and white, his lines should also be strict and on-beat. i love michael ball and it's nice he got to come back after originating marius, but it really grinds on me that none of his lines are delivered on time.

side note and controversial opinion: Bradley Jaden is the hottest Enjorlas ever and i get intense gender envy from him

I know plenty of people have probably said this already, but I am so sick and tired of science being The Smart Thing and art being The Creative Thing

first off, there's a lot of dumb 'smart' people and a lot of uncreative artists

but more importantly, science and math and all that stuff takes an immense amount of creativity that really isn't appreciated enough, and art stuff takes an immense amount of intelligence that really isn't appreciated enough

That previos post being said, headmates who are a part of a minority (gender, sexuality, romantic orientation, neurodivergent, disability, whatever else) that the body isn't a part of are and should be allowed to call people out when they're being assholes to them. Discrimination is discrimination, full fucking stop.

A headmate holding symptoms of a disorder doesn't have to shut up and take it when they're told their struggles mean nothing because they're a headmate. A headmate who is trans in a cis body doesn't have to step aside when presented with transphobia. A headmate doesn't have to stop using a cane when they front for their individual disability/symptoms just because other people think they're being ableist for needing it.

Headmates are people capable of their own lived experiences, and sure, it's complicated! There might be differences between people with that identity bodily vs a headmate and those can be discussed! But there's still plenty of room for discussion about the real struggles headmates of minority communites face. Headmates shouldn't be shoved aside. It's dehumanising and honestly just showing your own ableism if you act like headmates have to stand to the side and not talk about their experiences.

I don't usually come on here to do this because I HATE complaining so openly but...

This week ALONE, I have had several people coming onto my HL social media pages and my Wattpad page (actual people, not bots) commenting and asking me to read their fics and "promoting their content." Normally, I just delete and ignore, but this week for WHATEVER reason, I had an influx of them and it really, really bothered me.

This might be a controversial take, but please DO NOT do this.

I love reading other people's fics. I love commenting and encouraging others to keep writing. But to not even follow my work, to not even READ anything I've written, and then come onto my profile and beg me to read your stuff just for views and likes? It makes me feel like you are using my page, where I post MY creations, to make it about YOU.

Fandom is a community. If you want to yap with me about your writing, I'm happy to listen! If you want to ask for advice, I'm happy to share! But PLEASE DO NOT use my page to promo your work to other people!

I know this new culture of fandom has become extremely transactional - we judge ourselves based on how many views/likes/comments our story gets and feeling like we don't get a lot of engagement can take its toll. I know. I've been there. Your feelings are valid, and I completely understand that.

But if you are expecting me to give you views and likes when you don't even BOTHER to try to make friends or interact with me in a genuine way, and then use MY profile to promote your fic, I will block you and delete your comment, and it will forever go ignored.

Please, PLEASE don't take this as me refusing to read others' fics. I love reading other people's work. I love talking about our mutual fandoms and giggling about the things that we write. But when it turns into using others for "content promotion", it takes all the fun out of fandom. It's really discouraged me this week getting all of these messages and makes me not want to create anymore.

Anyway. Sorry for the long rant.
