so you want the truth been living just outside of okay for awhile now. but its changing. whatever story you heard about me is not true. im pretty sure im not gonna bring home a grammy tommorrow. but i will have lots of good pictures. how i am feeling about someone is always changing. except i am allowed to be happy inside my head right now. ive been scared of everything for far too long. i haven't let myself be alright. but ive done alot of thinking on the 12 hour flight here. i just like being around certain people. new friends make my heart flutter. old ones make me feel homesick. been going to grammy parties all week. yeah im that guy in the corner lurking hard. its kinda creepy. ive been training the last month for our video- however i think i may have sprained or fractured my foot in the last day. if this thing turns out the way it is supposed to- it will be the most epic thing fall out boy has ever done. i dont miss you but i do miss the idea of you. i went and looked at houses out in california again today- i want to get a dog and a backyard. maybe not just yet. but maybe. my clock is ticking on your pretty face. my dad got drunk tonight and talked shit to all of my friends. pretty amazing. i wish i had it on video. total release the bats two material. i want to do a tv show like the wonder years starring fall out boy. i don't think any networks would be too interested. dont call it a comeback. put pennies on my eyes when i die. you are new moons and fresh sheets and the end of that one dream. love the fancy kid.

when i am called by my manager to read a post that is burning through the internet it makes me wonder. ive never responded to rumours or shittalking online, no matter who it came from- at the same time there is nothing that makes my blood boil more than reading this- being who i am, my first instinct is to blow it off- but then i consider how anytime anything is written on the internet people believe its true- no matter what, no matter the biases or subjectivity of the sources. my first instinct is to lash out- to say everything i think about you and every situation- to defend myself and attack you. as unbelievable as it is- i am an extremely insecure person- everytime i read something about myself negative or positive i react in probably the exact same way anyone would.

Around 2000ish I had an Animorphs OCs role playing group in AOL chat rooms and our version of Cassie's barn was a treehouse hidden in the woods. I even had this elaborate headcanon that this weird secondary group of characters were a little backup plan of the Ellimist, and each time he interfered for the main group, he was able to give that benefit to our characters too, although they weren't hand-picked and the benefits were at less convenient points. One of those was that when he hid the Hork-Bajir valley, he also hid my characters' treefort. I spent a lot of time thinking about how this would all work but could never figure out a satisfying ending for them.

Here's an interesting AU idea: What if the Animorphs DID have a tree house base?

I feel like it'd have to be Cassie's backyard still. Jake's is too close to Tom, Rachel's would necessitate keeping her little sisters out, Marco doesn't have a backyard, and Tobias and Ax kind of already live in tree houses.

What would be awesome is if it's waaaaay off the ground, like not feasible for most humans to access. These are kids who can't be hurt or killed by a fall unless they insta-die, and who can easily go bird or chimp to get up there fast. And that way there'd be massive advance warning if someone (e.g. the controller cop, Cassie's dad, Estrid) did try to drop in on them.

Also, tree houses have the advantage of easy hork-bajir access but difficult human access and near-impossible taxxon or andalite access. That means Ax has to go to meetings in morph more, which we know he hates, but it'd let people they do want (Toby, Jara, Erek) in while keeping out those they don't (Gonrod, random controllers, civilians).

This requires somewhat more negligent Aniparents to pull off (there's a difference between "my son's at a friend's house" and "my son's off somewhere") but it'd be awesome if it's hidden in the woods and no one but them knows about it. Not sure how these kids in particular would do at making something structurally sound — Ax's idea of construction is to prop up a piece of plywood with wires he stole from utility poles, Cassie's is to dig a hole under a fridge, and none of the others shows a shred of building ability. But assuming they did get it up and working, it'd be a great safe haven.

Speaking of havens, is it better or worse if they stash David there? He'd still have Ax and Tobias babysitting him, and he's not much better off than in the barn, but maybe they could frame it as a cool adventure for him. And if given enough time, I bet Ax could get him a space heater and a wifi hookup there.

Received this week (and maybe if Warner/AOL hadn’t fired so many people they'd have been able to publish it in time for the Soul of the Dragon anime release)!

I never believed I'd hold a Richard Dragon Kung Fu Fighter hardcover in my hands, but here it is, and it's a damn fine object. I was worried the interior art would be colored in a "modern" style, like the jacket, but they've had the good sense to use a flat style coloring that fits the art.

Collecting the complete '70s Richard Dragon Kung Fu Fighter series, plus the classic The Brave and the Bold Batman team-up (one of my favorite issues of that series, written by Bob Haney but prefiguring what Denny O'Neil would do a decade later with The Question), and the Whatever Happened to Richard Dragon backup story from DC Comics Presents, this is the definitive OG Richard Dragon collection, before he turned zen master. And no, not all of it is good, especially when they tried to steer the series from an Enter the Dragon knockoff towards a more superheroish narrative, but this series gave us Lady Shiva, O-Sensei, and Ben Turner, and for that it deserves to be remembered.

This is not choices nor is it choices related ... but I think if any group is going to understand me and this story, it will be this group.

This amazing thing just happened to me and I’m just so happy that I can barely form words. Here’s the story:

Some of you may remember a time before texting and smart phones, a time before Facebook and twitter and Instagram. During that time there was this thing (that I realize still exists, but now work software has made it more associated with work than fun), this thing called Instant Messaging. It was mainly called AOL instant messaging back in my day. And let me tell you, it was amazing-af! I mean, who wants to talk on the phone with just one person when you can IM with like 10 people at once?!? And I could have serious and impactful conversations with people through the written word. Oh, it was truly glorious!

Over the years, I kept this document of the meaningful things that people said to me over IM. This document was something that meant a lot to me. It moved from computer to computer as I had to update them and whenever I was sad, I would read parts of the document and be lifted up by the kind words of my friends.

As you can probably guess, I lost track of this document at some point. I’m not sure exactly when, I just knew that the document was gone. I had come to terms with it being gone, though I had hoped that one day I would stumble over a backup disc of an old computer and find it again ... but that was a pipe dream, not something I thought could actually happen.

Then, my father told me that he was going through some of his stuff in the basement and he found a CD labeled “backup copy of Megan’s PC.” He put that cd in the mail and sent it to me and he wanted me to keep an eye out in the mail for it to arrive.

That CD came yesterday and today, as I’m sure you’ve guessed, I found the document!!!!

And, of course, not only is the document filled with amazing things people have said to me, it’s also filled with proof of my own anxieties and quirks and mistakes I made and joys I shared.

It’s 104 pages of things I thought worth saving.

And it makes me happier than I can explain!

A new blog?

I started my first blog in the spring of 1994. It was called AntARTide and was focused on Art happening in Calabria, where I was leaving then. At that time, searching Yahoo — created just a few months before —, it was one of the very few online Art journals. There were no comments, but when people were sending me emails, I was updating the posts. It got lost.

Later, in 1996, I focused on dev projects. My first one was Arte.NET, a user-generated art directory. I scraped the Internet for the initial 16,000 entries (artists, museums, galleries, etc.). I built it in Perl in 11 days (to learn the language) at an enormous cost. I had not a local server, so I had to test every change directly on the remote server. When we received a phone bill for the equivalent of almost $300, my girlfriend was so angry I thought she would have killed me. But after the first building, it was practically free because the experiment was not to touch the code at all, let it go by itself and see if people were editing their data and adding a new one.

When I sold domain and service in 1999, there were over 22,000 entries. I consider that my most successful project ever.

In 2001, I started thinking of blogging again, but engaging friends. The idea was to allow many users to write and interact on the same site. I searched everywhere but I could not find any service on the Internet for that, and I was too busy to build it by myself. 

However, I was working as Responsible for the Communication of the call centers at Blu SpA, and I was building out our intranet. When I left, in 2003, I knew how to build a multiuser CMS. That year, I introduced Mooffa, a multiuser blog, where people could have shared their experiences, writings, etc.

I called the underneath code Mooffanka. It was quite powerful, allowing granular management of almost anything. Still now, platforms like Wordpress cannot do what Mooffanka could do nearly 20 years ago.

Unfortunately, I was in Italy and disconnected. I had no idea how to promote it, and, even if it was Open Source, due to my bad English, it was tough for me to engage people around the world. 

I ended up using Mooffa as my blog and Mooffanka as a platform for my clients since, after leaving Blu, I was working as a freelance developer. It is quite incredible that there is still someone using Mooffanka out there.

Mooffa captured my singer-songwriting years in Rome. It got lost because of a simultaneous crash of my remote server and a broken backup disk :-(

After that, I decided to try whatever was around.

Between 2007 and 2012, I was writing mostly on a Wordpress blog called Marameu, where I published funny short posts as well as long essays. Contemporarily I had a Tumblr blog primarily for picture sharing, and I wrote some, later deleted posts on Medium. Both Marameu and the Sullof tumblog got lost :-/

For a while, I did not write anything, engaging mostly on Facebook with my friends. I re-started in 2015, on Medium, with a long article in Italian. Later, in 2017, when I started the 0xNIL project, Medium looked like the perfect choice.

The problem came when the new Medium's business model introduced paywalled posts. If you keep you post free, even if you receive a lot of "claps," Medium promotion engine won't promote your posts (which are not generating income), and your content will be hard to found.

If you paywall your updates (which doesn't make any sense), nobody will see it, and if you do not, nobody will see it.

If I were Ev Williams, I would support micro-transactions (ideally using a blockchain) and let people pay for single articles, with variable prices. If a story I am interested in costs ¢5, I buy it. But I don't subscribe for $5 to read something from time to time. In that case, the obvious solution is to read the post in incognito and to go clean only if you want to leave feedback. I guess that this is quite common, and I bet that it causes significant damage to Medium because people leave much fewer official claps, and writers loose money.

Anyway, on January 10th, I left my job as Technical Lead Manager at Tron US, to take some time and focus on Writing, Music, Visual Arts. For Music I continue to use SoundCloud and for paintings Instagram is great. But it is not enough. Again, I feel the need for blogging.

Since I am using Tumblr (mirrored on Medium), you already know my temporary choice. But I'm not happy with it because, after AOL acquired Yahoo in 2017, Tumblr has lost its natural freedom.

I would be glad to discover alternatives that I ignore.
