Everyone obviously has a plan Pt. 3
Hello, I guess for now this is the last part of the story :)
****************************************
'Ehm, well, you see... he... uhm... well...' Marinette stammered on the verge of a small panic attack. Why did that darn cat decide to visit her right now? Doesn't he have anything better to do? Like annoying someone else? Alya opened the small window to let Chat in, only for him to realize his horrible mistake. His escape attempt however was stopped by Alya pulling on his tail, which resulted in him falling inside Mari's room. Marinette could just speechlessly watch her best friend manhandle the boy. If it weren't for her role in the current situation, she might even laugh at the whole scene. As it was Chat was trying to salvage his pride by getting to his feet fairly quickly, but his reputation was beyond repair at this moment. He was lucky enough that Alya didn't have her phone camera on. He could already see her posting the pictures and video on her blog with some hashtag like cat-astrophy or cat fail. 'Ok, would someone please explain what is going on here? Why is Chat here? Wait. Mari, is he the reason why you decided to give up on Adrien?' Alya asked incedulously. 'What? No. I mean- No!' Marinette tried to come up with a coherent sentence, but she failed miserably. 'What can you say in your defence, cat boy?' Alya turned to Chat. 'Why did you come here, of all places in Paris? Any particular reason?' 'I-I-I was on a patrol close by, aaand decided to stop by to visit my princess in her tower,' Chat recovered. 'Your princess?' 'Chat, you're not helping,' Marinette muttered annoyed. 'Marinette has helped me and Ladybug several times in the akuma fights, so I stop by from time to time. Is there anything bad about it?' 'No, but I think my alleged best friend has a lot of explaining to do. And I'm still waiting, girl.' She turned to Marinette again. 'Does he have anything to do with you taking down all of pretty boy's pictures?' 'I-I'm sorry, but I think I should leave. I am obviously interrupting...' Chat started. 'Yes, you should-' Mari started and at the same time Alya said: 'Don't you dare.' Chat felt terrified at this point, not knowing where to look, what to do or what to say. How could he get out of this? Why didn't he just once listen to Plagg telling him to wait a little longer before going to the bakery? Just why? And now he had to suffer consequences of his choice, namely two girls - one looking at him as if she was planning to make him suffer, in a very bloody way, and another that was firing questions at him at a lightning speed. He was doomed. He looked helplessly from one girl to the other, trying to come up with any solution that wouldn't involve physical pain on his side. No such luck. And still he couldn't miss the mentions of his name and pictures, that Marinette said were on her walls because of her interest in fashion. But what did then Alya mean 'give up on him'? He was obviously missing a point here. A very important one. 'So, Marinette? Is the kitty-kat the reason why sunshine boy is out of the picture?' 'No, he isn't.' Marinette shook her head. 'I told you my reasons and I didn't lie.' 'Ok, girl. I believe you. I should go now, I have to babysit the twins. But you are not getting away from me, I expect all the details. And an exclusive interview on your relationship with Paris' cat superhero. Bye, see you tomorrow at school.' Alya waved at the two of them. As soon as the trapdoor closed behind her, Marinette looked at Chat mortified and enraged at the same time. 'What are you doing here?' 'Well, as I said, I was nearby and I thought I would stop by to see how are you doing. In hindsight it might not have been such a great idea.' Chat answered sheepishly. 'Now she thinks we are... we have... we...' 'Are dating?' Chat offered. 'Yes.' Marinette hissed. 'But we aren't, so what is the problem?' he asked. 'The problem is, that Alya tends to come to her own conclusions, sometimes without verifying her facts, just like now. And it is going to be very complicated to convince her of the truth. As if my life wasn't complicated enough.' She sighed and sat on her chaise lounge. 'I'm sorry for causing you problems, princess. I offer my sincere apawlogies.' 'Ugh, not that again,' Marinette groaned. 'Why? Don't you find me amewsing?' His flirty nature came back full force. He flashed her a smirk. 'And what did I hear about you giving up on the Agreste boy? Were you two a couple?' 'That is none of your business, kitty. You know what they say about curiosity and the cat.' 'Come on, Mari, I'm your friend. What happened? You seem a little bit off.' 'You know that I had a crush on this boy for a long time, now you even know his name. Well, apparently, he is in love with someone else. And I found out only after I embarassed myself in front of him and was finally about to confess. So I have thought about it and I have decided to stop pursuing him. We will be just friends and I have to accept that. So that is what I'm going to do.' She smiled at him sadly. To say e was shocked would be an understatement of the century. He couldn't believe his ears. Marinette had a crush on him. Actually, on both of him. She had already confessed her feelings to him as Chat and now she said she wanted to confess to Adrien. What was he supposed to say? How should he act? 'Oh, Mari, I'm so sorry. I... Is there anything I can do to make you feel better?' A lonely tear escaped her eye, but she quickly wiped it away. 'Could you just please help me take down his schedule?' 'His what?!' Did she really have something like that? Marinette went to her table and showed him. His jaw fell to the floor. He has never seen anything so elaborte before. How does she know so much about his life? Who is this girl? 'Ehm... well... that is rather... unexpected and... detailed...' He looked at all of his activities written down in a calendar. There was a lot of them. How did she even know about all of them? 'Yes,' Marinette blushed, 'uhm, you see... I may have went a little bit overboard with this crush thing...' Chat's face visibly reddened. 'You could say that.' 'Can we please just take it down and never speak about it again? Ever?' 'Yes, that might be a good idea.' He stood up and helped her take the last evidence of her (obsession) crush down. 'So,' he started, trying to seem casual, 'are you going to be okay?' 'Yes, I just have to come to terms with my decision, but I think it's the right one, at least for now. He doesn't see me that way, so I'll just be his friend and support him whenever he needs it.' He smiled at her, knowing that he couldn't wish for a better friend than Marinette. How did he even deserve her? He was now, more than ever, determined to make her smile and laugh. But maybe he should leave out any pranks for a while. 'I'm sure he will appreciate that. You truly are amazing, Marinette. You are like an everyday Ladybug. Brave and smart and so kind to others.' He smiled at her softly. She froze at hearing so familiar words. 'What did you just call me?' '... everyday... Ladybug...?' There was a question hanging in the air. A slow realization, followed by widened eyes, and yet another panic attack. 'Mari?' 'You... him... you... how... oh my god... how could I be so blind? Oh my god, oh my god, ohmygod...' All of her interactions with Chat, with Adrien, every moment when Adrien was around and Chat was nowhere to be found, when Chat was there and Adrien was absent. It all made sense now. Then another realization hit her. 'Oh my god! I kissed Adrien Agreste. Several times.' Marinette rambled on and on. 'You what?!' Chat looked just as shocked now. She looked at him, as if she saw him for the first time, as if she just now realized he was in the room with her. She opened her mouth, but there were no more words coming out. Adrien was terrified. What did he just say? What did she just say? Something he said must have done this to her. What is so wrong with calling her everyday Ladybug... only... SHIT! He realized his mistake. Ladybug was going to hang him by his tail from the Eiffel Tower. He would bet his miraculous on that. How could he salvage this? Was there any way to salvation at this point? Maybe if he tried to pretend that it was nothing, maybe just a coincidence... 'Is there something wrong?' He tried to act nonchalantly... and failed miserably when his voice broke at the end of sentence. 'How could I be so blind? I... we... Tikki...' 'Tikki?' Who is Tikki? Where did he hear that name before? ... Oh... Oh, no... Ladybug... Marinette? No, Marinette knows Ladybug in her civil life, that's why she knows the name of her kwami. But... 'Marinette, inhale... exhale... slowly... breathe in... and out...' Third voice belonging to a small red and black creature sounded. At that moment Chat got into the same state as Marinette. The conclusion he came to hit him like a truck. How was this possible? Could he really be so blind? Could she really have been so close to him all this time? 'M'lady?' She looked at him with wide eyes, really seeing him. 'Adrien?' 'Oh my god! I-I-I...' Words abandoned him. His brain left him there, standing, not being able to form any sentence, word, sound. How did this happen? Finally, she broke the silence. 'We weren't supposed to know.' 'Marinette, it was not your fault. Eventually the identities are always revealed. Even though usually it's much later on.' Tikki tried to calm her chosen. 'But what about Hawkmoth? If he finds out...' 'Then we make sure we beat him first.' Chat said. 'We are a team, Bugaboo. No matter what, we always help each other and find each other. Obviously, even out of suit.' He grinned. 'Pound it?' He offered his fist. Marinette looked at him hesitantly. He was waiting patiently, smiling softly at her. She couldn't help herself and smiled back at him. 'Pound it.' 'So... I hear you have a teeny tiny little crush on a certain boy.' Chat started with a teasing smile. 'Stop it. I told you never to speak of it again.' 'Or should I say a major obsession with him?' He couldn't hold back anymore. 'Why didn't you tell me?' His face became serious again. 'I... I was afraid. Everytime I tried to approach you, to talk to you, I would become a complete mess, stuttering, clumsy mess. How could I even want to be with someone so... perfect. Even though, now that I know you are such a dork...' 'Hey! No need to be rude!' Chat crossed his arms. 'Now that I know, who you really are, I think I might reevaluate my previous decision.' She looked at him shyly. 'That would be wise, my princess. Knowing what I know now, it would be most beneficial.' He stepped closer, his fingertips slowly brushing her hand. 'I'm sorry that I didn't see you sooner.' 'Better now than never.' Marinette smiled at him and slowly closed the distance between them. His arm tenderly encircled her waist, pulling her closer towards him. It might have lasted a second, a minute or a century. Time didn't matter anymore. 'Uhm, Chat, Adrien, could you please detransform? I think Plagg might want to gloat about this for a while.' Tikki interrupted their bliss. 'Oh, yes, sure. Sorry. Claws in.' A small black cat-like creature flew out of the ring and instead of Chat Noir Adrien Agreste was standing in her bedroom. Adrien Agreste. In her bedroom. Adrien Agreste is Chat Noir. 'Oh my god!' Marinette exhaled again. 'What am I going to tell Alya?' 'Don't worry, I'm sure that between four of us we can come up with a plan.'

His Princess Marichat
A thing I wrote for a prompt from @minnesota-fats post on Chat Noir defending Marinette from Lila and the class freaking out over the "his princess" slip. Hope it turned out okay!
Marinette only allowed the strained smile to drop from her face only after she dropped her school bag and threw herself onto her bed, Tikki hovering worriedly over her slumped form.
"Marinette? Don't be sad, you know what Lila said was wrong." the kwami's heart broke at seeing the girl's shoulders trembling.
Marinette took a deep, shaky breath, voice muffled by the big cat plushie she had buried her face in, "I know Tikki it's just...Lika is just so full of lies! I don't understand why everyone believes her!" she groaned.
Tikki flew closer to Marinette's head, smiling gently, "Adrien doesn't."
Remembering her conversation about Lila a few days back comforted Marinette slightly, still... "I can't believe she told everyone she was good friends with Ladybug! And the thing she lied about going out with Chat Noir after discovering she "found someone better"?" Marinette sat up, clutching the cat plushie in her hands tightly, "How can she say that Tikki?! How dare she?! Chat Noir is the kindest guy I know! He doesn't deserve this! Especially not from someone like Lila! Ugh!" Marinette threw the plushie against the wall, burying her face in her hands.
Tikki's worry spiked when she heard the quiet sobs escaping her and slowly levitated close, comfortingly nuzzling against her cheek.
"I don't understand Tikki, I can't. Lila lying about traveling the whole world and meeting famous people, Lila lying about being friends with Ladybug and Chat Noir..." Marinette clenched her fists and stared down at her kwami in sadness. "Why Tikki...how can people be like this?" Marinette's sad voice made Tikki only nuzzle her more, patting her cheek and trying to comfort her wielder.
"People are different Marinette. Nobody is completely evil, there is evil and good in all of us. It's just that... people act out on what they feel more comfortable with." the small ancient kwami hoped her words offered at least a bit comfort to her charge.
Marinette gently craddled Tikki close to her, sobbing.
Until a tap on her window made her freeze and before she could tell Chat Noir that she was busy, the cat had already opened the window.
That was weird, he usually waited for permission before-
"Princess!" he jumped down onto her bed, his warm gloved hand on her shoulder and his worried, panicked eyes scanning the tears on her cheeks and the redness in her eyes, " I'm so sorry, Marinette."
And then, he was hugging her.
Marinette didn't know how Chat Noir knew what happened, but at that moment she didn't care, instead hugging him back and holding onto him for dear life. He had been her rock for so long.
Chat Noir soothingly stroked her back, feeling the shivers wracking her body, his mind replaying the scene in class just before the period ended.
Lila and Marinette had gotten into a verbal fight, Marinette had been so upset when Lila had lied about dating "clichee, boring" Chat Noir and personally knowing Ladybug (he snorted, his Lady would never want a friend like her).
But what really made him angry was what Lila had told her in front of the whole class, "You're just jealous you don't have such a luxurious life like me, admit it, you're nothing but a little wannabe designer, one who can't even draw a pretty italian dress. You won't get to see all the awesome stuff I saw either,"
And then, the threat, "If you dare try to get between me and what I want, that little backery of yours will be closed down forever and your puny future in the fashion world? Just a distant fantasy. I'll make sure of it."
He had immediately transformed to go after Marinette.
Chat's body trembled in rage and he gently broke the embrace to look at Marinette, all puffy eyed, with red cheeks and tears trailing down the smooth skin. He tenderly wiped her tears away, feeling his own heart breaking at seeing her like this.
His resolve hardened, fueled by anger, "Stay here, princess," Chat Noir had been about to leap through her window but a tug on his tail stopped him.
Marinette, still teary eyed and red faced, gazed up at him questioningly, "C-Chat Noir? Where are you going?" she could sense the anger, the way his body moved agitatedly. Years of teamwork and fighting akuma had taught her a thing or two about reading him, just like he could read her.
Chat Noir lowered himself to her level, grasping her hands tightly in his, "My apawlogies princess, but there's something I need to take care of first. I promise I'll come back as soon as I can." he brushed her hair away from her forehead and in the next moment he was gone.
The students of Dupont had immediately taken their phones out to take a picture of the unexpected arrival of Chat Noir, who had burst through the double doors of the school looking like a man with a purpose.
A dangerous purpose if the angry expression on his face was anything to go by.
He was quick to locate his class, where a few of his classmates still had art.
He slammed open the doors and his gaze immediately found Lila in the second row, looking delighted at seeing him, "Chat Noir! Darling!" she waved excitedly.
He only partially registered the excited cheers around him and rows of questions, instead, he went straight for her.
Slightly towering over the italian girl, Chat's poisonous gaze narrowed, "How dare you attack Marinette like that? She didn't deserve any of the awful things you said to her!" he pointed a clawed finger at her, around him some of his classmates gasped.
Lila blanched, a nervous smile slowly stretching her lips, "Uh, w-what? Don't be silly kitten, I never attacked Marinette that wa-"
Chat's ears pulled back threateningly, "Stop lying! I know all about your little game! Being friends with Ladybug? She only ever saw you once after defeating you as an akuma! And the thing with me dating you?" his gaze turned icy, "I would never fall for a girl who treats other people like you do Lila, like they're beneath them."
He turned around, walking toward the door when another thought hit him and he stopped, "And threatening my Marinette?" he pointed at her with his staff, a warning lacing his words and in his eyes, "If you ever do that again, I won't bother saving you from an akuma. My princess is the kindest person I know who helps everyone, she is the last one to ever deserve insults, especially from someone like you. You don't deserve her kindness." He turned his head, "I know I don't."
With that, Chat Noir exited the class. Sprinting out of the school and back to Marinette. To his princess.
Alya paused the record button, looking overwhelmed as Nino blinked owishly at the door Chat Noir had ran out of, "Babe, did just happen what I think happened?"
Alya gripped his shoulder, "His Marinette."
Nino blinked, "Did Chat Noir just threaten someone?"
Alya's grip tightened, "He called her his princess."
Kim suddenly spoke what was on everyone's mind, "I didn't just imagine that, right? Chat Noir did call Marinette his princess...his Marinette....right?"
The class remained silent until all hell broke loose when Alya shouted, "I RECORDED IT!!"
Marinette had calmed down by the time Chat Noir came back, with a sincere apology, a basket full of sweets and a small ladybug plushie.
When Marinette had giggled over the sweet gesture, she smiled up at her kitty, "Thank you Chat Noir, but I really like the cat plushies best."
Chat Noir's brain had stopped working by that point, only to spring back to life when, after they planned on watching a movie online, a new update was posted on the Ladyblog.
A video to be exact.
Chat Noir froze when he read the caption underneath.
CHAT NOIR PROTECTING HIS PRINCESS! A SHOCKING DISCOVERY OF THE HERO'S LOVE LIFE!"

ML Fluff Month Day 6: Cooking/Baking
ML Fluff Month Day 6: Cooking/Baking
Ship: Adrienette
AU: post reveal!/post Hawkmoth!
Words: 1358
Rating: G
Summary: After the defeat of Hawkmoth, and no leering threat to the safety of Paris, Ladybug and Chat Noir have all but vanished. But a certain kitty misses his Ladybug, so Chat Noir breaks into Marinette’s house, finding her and himself covered in flour.
A/N: This was kinda angsty in the beginning I’m sorry but the rest is fluff I SWEAR! I really enjoyed writing this... this turned out really cute so I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it!! { @miraculousfluffmonth }
Day 5 ~ ao3
Adrien was currently tucked into an alley, as a very large group of reporters hurried by, calling his name. Adrien sighed with relief, sinking down onto the ground. Ever since Hawkmoth was discovered to be his father, Gabriel Agreste, the world wouldn’t stop pestering him. He’s been asked “Why didn’t you notice?” and “Did he ever try to akumatize you?” and even “Were you helping him?”. Clearly, Adrien could not answer that question very honestly, because as Chat Noir, now more than ever, he must keep his identity a secret from the public eye. If the world found out I was Chat Noir... Adrien shuddered at the thought, and pulled himself to his feet.
No person today has any respect for privacy. They want to know every single dirty little secret about you, and then once they know that, they crave even more. Not once has any reporter asked Adrien how he felt about the fact that his father was a ruthless supervillain and that he will be in jail for the rest of his life. Not once has anyone tried to comfort Adrien in this time. First he lost his mom, and now his father is gone as well. Adrien has no one, and no one even seems to care... Except for Marinette. Kind, caring, precious Marinette. Marinette, who is the one of two people who know his secret, and the only one who has tried to help him. Adrien felt a smile tugging at the edge of his lips, and he fidgeted with the ring on his finger. He debated whether going to visit Marinette was a good idea. On the one hand, he didn’t want to raise suspicion by showing up as Adrien, because to the rest of the world they were ‘just friends’. But on the other hand, if he appeared as Chat Noir, people would notice. Ladybug and Chat Noir have practically vanished. Shortly after the defeat of Hawkmoth, they patrolled the streets, but crime has dropped considerably since the Miraculous Team appeared. So after about a month of pointless patrols, Ladybug stopped appearing, and a few days after that, so did Chat.
Adrien missed Marinette. Now that he knew she was Ladybug, the two people he had loved most, turned out to be the same person. He was euphoric. It’s not very often you meet your soulmate, after all.
“Plagg, claws out!”
~~~
Marinette sighed, wiping her forehead with her hand. She knew she must be coated with flour, but Marinette had bigger problems. With her parents out of town at a baking convention with her great uncle in China, Marinette is left to work the bakery all alone in their absence. Her parents deserve more credit. Marinette underestimated how much work running the bakery for only a weekend could be. She still had three cakes to bake, four hundred cookies, and at least one pie by tomorrow night, and Marinette has baking since she arrived home from school nearly five hours ago.
Marinette tried to call for backup, but all her friends were too busy to lend even a second of their time. Marinette isn’t angry; most people don’t spend their Friday nights in a humid kitchen baking for hours on end. But Marinette had told her parents she could handle it, and she didn’t want to let them down.
She placed yet another batch of cookies in the oven, and took out a finished batch. Onto the cooling rack they go, as Marinette frantically began mixing more frosting. After many hours, Marinette has created a system. A panicked, chaotic system, but a system nonetheless. A system that was completely ruined when Chat broke into her house. He opened the living room window, which coincidentally had been left unlocked, and slid in slowly, unnoticed by the hyper focused Marinette. He snuck behind her, as she was pouring flour into a bowl to make more coolie dough, and he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into a hug. She screamed, and the bag of flour she had been holding flew into the air, and flour scattered everywhere. Marinette whirled around, covered from head to toe in the white powder, and glared at the cat, who was also drenched in flour.
“Sorry?” He posed it as more of a question, as he shrugged his shoulders and grinned at her.
“What are you doing here Adrien?” She snapped, before beginning to clean up the kitchen. Adrien stepped in to help, but Marinette pushed him away, sighing. “You know you shouldn’t-“
“Transform unless there is immediate danger, I know.” Adrien deadpanned, before stepping in again to help, and this time she didn’t push him away. “I apawlogize milady, but I really wanted to see you.” Marinette stuck her tongue in disgust at the pun, but his tone of voice brought her bright blue gaze to him. She noticed the dejected look on his face, and immediately she pulled the car into a hug, flour flying around them as she did so.
“Is it the reporters again? Were they bothering you?” Adrien just nodded, and detransformed to hug her without the magic armor between them. Marinette didn’t pull away, even long after the hug became awkward. She knew that Adrien needed it, and when he finally pulled away, did she turn back to her baking. “This might sound really rude, but I’m kinda swamped with orders from the bakery, would you mind helping me? It could help you cheer up.” Marinette smiled, as she cleared the counter of flour, continuing to make the cookie dough.
“I’d...” Adrien paused, as he felt butterflies appearing in his stomach. Being a rich kid, Adrien has never had to cook anything for himself, even when his mother was around. The idea of learning to bake for the first time with the girl he loves, makes his mood improve instantly. “love to. But I’ve never actually learned how to bake.” Marinette grinned, pulling him next to her where she rolling out the dough.
“It’s easy! I’ll teach you!” Marinette helped Adrien shape the cookies and place them on the baking sheet, and putting the batch in the oven. Then she helped teach Adrien how to make the frosting, and then to put the frosting on the cookies. His first few attempts were messy, but he caught on fast, and soon he was making the cookies on his own. Marinette had to stop him from eating the ingredients, however. “Adrien, if you eat the cookie dough, then we won’t finish as quickly. And also, there’s raw eggs in cookie dough. You could get sick, Chaton.” Adrien just grinned, as he snuck another spoonful of the dough. Marinette just giggled, and punched his arm playfully.
“I’m sorry milady, it just tastes so good!” Adrien moaned, and pretended to faint, falling into Marinette’s arms. You wouldn’t guess if you looked at her, but being Ladybug has made Marinette really strong. She caught the boy easily, before pushing him back onto his feet. The pair managed to finish all of Marinette’s orders in only a few hours, and soon they were collapsed on her living room couch, a light dusting of flour still covering their bodies. Marinette yawned, letting herself fall onto Chat’s side, her eyes drifting shut.
“I’m just gonna take a nap for five minutes, okay Chaton?” Marinette murmured sleepily, and within ten second she was snoring softly on Adrien. He just smiled down at the sleeping girl, and leaned over to kiss her flour-covered forehead. Never in any moment, has Adrien felt more in love than he did in this one. As he looked down at Marinette, who has been working nonstop for hours on end, who even in her dire situation, stopped to comfort Adrien when he was feeling down. He loved Marinette with all his heart and soul and being, and he didn’t care how long he had to wait, but one day he would be able to walk with her hand in hand at school. He could take her on dates, and kiss her. But right now, this moment was enough. She would always be enough.
“Goodnight, milady.”
I Just Want to Tell You How I’m Feeling
AO3 Link
“Oh, Marinette!” Sabine smiled. “Don’t forget the croissants!”
Marinette paused on her way out the door and nodded. “Thanks, Mama.” She accepted them with a weak smile. “I’m sure everyone’s looking forward to them.”
Her mother frowned. “Is everything alright?”
“Hm?” Marinette packed the croissants into the basket she’d managed to track down. “Oh, of course!”
“Are you sure? You seem upset.”
“No, everything’s fine.” Marinette waved a hand. “Just tired.”
“Well, okay, then.” Sabine still looked worried, but she didn’t press Marinette for details. “Have fun!”
Marinette waved and darted out of the bakery. Everything really wasn’t okay, but how was she supposed to explain that to her mother? She couldn’t exactly walk up to Sabine and start crying that she’d finally, finally revealed her identity to her partner only to find out he was her crush and things had been painfully awkward between them since. As much as she tried to hide how much it hurt to live with that rift, Marinette had never been skilled at hiding her emotions. Of course her mother would notice.
She sighed and walked down the road, headed for the small park nearby. Maybe with Alya and Nino around, some of the nervous tension between her and Adrien, Chat Noir, would ease. Just as long as they didn’t have to fight another akuma like this, the day should be fine. Maybe they’d even have fun together for the first time in two weeks.
She rounded the corner and froze at the sight of Adrien sitting by himself next to the fountain in the middle of the park. Before he could catch sight of her, she ducked behind a tree and silently panicked. After a moment, she calmed down enough to tug out her phone and call Alya.
“Hey, girl!” Alya answered after the first ring.
“Alya! Where are you?” Marinette whispered. “Adrien’s here alone!”
“Yeah, and you’re five minutes late. What’s up with that? You live next door.” Alya continued, “Besides, if you and Adrien are just fine, like you keep saying, it won’t kill you to be alone with him.”
Marinette scowled, ignoring the accusation in favor of repeating her question. “Where are you?”
“Nino and I aren’t feeling so well.” Alya tossed in an obviously fake cough. “We won’t be coming.”
“Really?” Marinette deadpanned.
“Go talk to Adrien. I’m tired of you two acting so weird around each other.”
Marinette peeked around the tree to catch a glimpse of his blond hair. “You know, I’m feeling a little sick, too. Maybe I should-”
“Don’t you dare.” Alya hissed. “You go talk to him right now, or I swear I’m getting Ladybug to lock you two in the panther enclosure.”
Marinette groaned and thumped her forehead against the tree. “Fine.”
“Oh, and Nino just texted him that you’re there, so you can stop hiding now.”
“What?” Marinette shouted.
“Bye!” Alya hung up before Marinette could protest, although Marinette texted her a few choice words and symbols immediately after.
“Okay, this is fine,” Marinette murmured to herself. “Just walk over and say hi.” She took a deep breath and turned to make her way over to Adrien. Unfortunately, her feet weren’t quite cooperating, and she stumbled instead, somehow managing to fall right into someone behind her.
“Whoa!” Thankfully, whoever she’d bumped into had better coordination and balance than her, which meant she hadn’t crashed to the ground. Instead, she was staring up into familiar green eyes. “Oh, hey, Marinette!”
“A-Adrien!” She sprang back. “Thanks for um… Thanks.”
“No problem. Nino just texted and said you were here.”
“Yeah, I just got off the phone with Alya.” She chuckled, barely restraining herself from rolling her eyes. “Apparently, they’re not feeling well.”
“He said that, too.” He cleared his throat and looked at her picnic basket. “Want me to carry that for you?”
“No, that’s okay. I’ve got it.” She chanced a glance up at him. “I saw you saved a spot by the fountain.”
“If you’re okay with that.” He avoided her eyes. “Um, I mean, if you still want to.”
“Of course I do. We’ve been planning this for ages.”
“I know, but…” He looked down. “I know things have been…”
She bit her lip. “Yeah, they have.”
Adrien sighed. “Maybe we can talk about it.”
“We probably should,” Marinette admitted, her grip on the basket tightening.
“Okay, let’s um…”
“Yeah.” She led them to the fountain. “I have a blanket in here we can use.”
“Oh, great. Can I help set it up?”
She grimaced and set the basket down. “Sure, but…” She pulled out a ladybug-patterned blanket. “It seems a little weird to use it for just us.”
He took it from her with a small smile. “Well, Alya would have loved it.”
“I thought she would.” She lowered her voice and grabbed two corners of the blanket. “I sort of...thought you would, too.”
“I do. I just, um…” They spread the blanket out together, and he frowned. “I do.”
“But?” she asked as she sat, placing the basket between them.
“No but. I just do.”
She set a small bag of cookies beside the basket. “Really?”
He gingerly sat across from her. “I love Ladybug. L-ladybugs, I mean.”
She opened her mouth to answer, then closed it, her shoulders sagging. She didn’t look at him as she unpacked the basket, laying out the food and thermos of hot tea between them. “My parents sent some croissants.”
“That was nice of them.”
She nodded.
“I didn’t mean…” He sighed. “I didn’t mean to make things awkward.”
“Things were already awkward,” she admitted, pulling out her phone to snap a quick picture of the food she’d arranged so nicely between them.
“Is that for Alya?”
She chuckled. “Just to show her what she’s missing.”
He smiled again, and Marinette hated how guarded it was, how he’d become so wary around her. “Good plan.”
She set aside the phone and poured some tea for them both. “I… I’m not sure how to start.”
“Okay, I will.” He moved a little closer. “Do you regret it?”
She raised a brow and held out a cup for him. “Regret it?”
“Do you regret telling me who you are?” he asked, his voice steady.
She dropped the tea over his lap. “What? How could you-” She gasped when she realized what she’d done. “Oh, I’m so sorry!”
Luckily, he’d dodged most of it, although his left thigh was half-covered in tea. “It’s okay. Do you have-”
She dug around in the basket. “I brought some napkins. Adrien, I’m sorry!”
“It’s fine. Really.”
She quickly pressed a few over the stain. “I didn’t mean to spill it on you.”
“Uh, Marinette.” He placed his hands over hers. “It’s not a big deal, but I think I can handle it.”
She blushed when she realized exactly where her hands were. She jumped back as though she’d been burned. “I’m so sorry. I don’t-” She covered her face with her hands. “What is wrong with me?”
He dabbed at the rapidly cooling tea. “Nothing’s wrong with you. It was just a spill.”
She finally lowered her hands and looked up at him. “How could you think I regret it?”
“Well, things have been different between us.”
“I thought…” She picked up the cup and poured some more tea. “I didn’t think you’d be someone I knew. And I really didn’t think you’d be the guy who turned me down two months ago.”
He flinched. “If I’d known-”
“I’m not angry.” She set it in front of him this time. “But it did...complicate things.”
“I only turned you down then because I was in love with Ladybug.”
“I know.”
“If I’d known, I wouldn’t have-”
“Look, I understand.” She picked up a croissant and tore off a piece. “You’re in love with Ladybug.”
“I’m in love with you.” He set the napkins aside. “I’m in love with the girl behind the mask, too. I wanted to say yes to you when you asked me to dinner. You being Ladybug… It’s the best thing that could have happened.”
She chewed on a bit of croissant for a moment. Finally, she met his eyes. “Then, why didn’t you say that?” Even with the akuma interrupting their post-reveal shock, she’d expected more than awkward silence. From him and from herself.
“Because I didn’t want you to think I only loved you because you were Ladybug.”
She frowned. “We’ve had four patrols since then, and you never said anything.”
“Neither did you,” he pointed out gently.
“I didn’t know what to say.”
“Me neither.” He picked at the perfectly browned crust of a quiche in front of him.
“I mean, I’ve been rejecting Chat Noir for a year because I was in love with you,” she admitted, “And I was scared you’d think I only kissed Chat Noir a month ago because you turned me down.”
“But, you did.”
She made a face. “Yeah, but… I love Chat Noir, too. I love both sides of you. I just…”
“Made a choice that sort of backfired?”
She chuckled. “Yeah, exactly.”
Adrien reached out to gently take her hand in his. “I’m going to say what I should have said two weeks ago.” He pressed a light kiss to the back of her hand. “Milady… I’m so glad it’s you. You’re the best Ladybug I could have asked for.”
Marinette smiled, tension draining from her shoulders as she spoke, “And I think you’re the purrfect Chat Noir. I’m glad you’re my partner.”
He snickered. “Did you just make a pun?”
She leaned closer, smirking slightly. “Well, someone had to. You completely missed the chance to talk about letting the cat out of the bag.”
He gasped. “What a catastrophe!”
She bowed forward and laughed. “I missed this.”
He laughed along with her. “I missed you.”
She glanced back up at him. “I’m glad we talked.”
“Me, too.” He grinned, and the sight made her heart melt. “Guess you owe Alya an apawlogy for that text earlier.”
She snorted. “Don’t push your luck, kitty.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it.” He finally released her hand to pick up a cookie.
“So,” she sent him a soft smile. “Are you going to ask me to dinner?”
“Oh, am I supposed to?” he teased, falling back into their easy banter now that they’d cleared the air.
“Well, I asked you, so I think it’s your turn.”
“Well, then, I guess-” He stopped and stared over her shoulder. “Unfortunately, it looks like someone else wants a turn first.”
“Oh?” She turned and frowned when she saw the tall woman towering over the city. “Hawkmoth really does have the worst timing.”
Adrien stood and offered her a hand. “Ready to teach him a lesson, bugaboo?”
She slipped her hand back in his and let him pull her to her feet. “You know, that nickname’s really growing on me.”
“You mean you haven’t always loved it?”
She chuckled. “I think it’s in my best interest not to answer that.” She peered into her purse. “Okay, Tikki, time to transform.”
“Uhhh… Marinette.” Adrien frantically searched his pocket. “I can’t find Plagg.”
Marinette’s eyes widened when she realized her purse was empty. “Tikki’s gone, too.”
He looked over at her. “What? Where did our kwamis go?”
She took a deep breath. “I don’t know. But, it looks like we’re on our own for now.”
“How do we fight an akuma without our powers?”
“Tikki said I’m Ladybug with or without the mask.” She snapped her purse closed. “Same goes for you.”
“I’m Ladybug?” he teased.
She rolled her eyes affectionately. “Yes, you got it. You’re Ladybug.”
He chuckled. “I knew it. I always looked great in spots.”
She raised a brow. “That I’d like to see.”
“Remind me to show you my Ladybug costume later.” He winked, and Marinette felt her cheeks warm.
“Let’s save the flirting for after we beat the akuma.” She ran to meet the akumatized victim.
He caught up seconds later. “Are you blushing? You’ve never blushed before.”
“Focus, Chat Noir.” She was pleased to note, however, a soft pink colored his cheeks, too. “We’re going to have to find a way to take her down without putting ourselves in danger. Hopefully, Tikki and Plagg will find us.”
“What do we do if they don’t?”
She grimaced. “We’ll have to hold onto the akuma until they do.”
They stopped down the road from the large villain. She was currently shouting for Ladybug and Chat Noir, punching buildings and stomping holes into the sidewalk.
“Great. A giant akuma with super strength.” Adrien scowled. “I guess we probably can’t go up and try to just talk to her about why she got akumatized.”
“Oh my gosh, Adrien,” Marinette bit back a laugh. “You can’t just ask someone why they’re akumatized.”
He grinned, barely suppressing a laugh of his own. “Was that a Mean Girls reference?”
“Maybe.” She glanced around. “If we can trip her somehow, maybe we can get to whatever has the akuma.”
“Good plan. But, how do we do that without her seeing us?”
She smiled. “I think I have an idea.”
“Are you sure this is going to work?”
Marinette wrapped the heavy rope around her wrist for a better grip. “It’s worth a shot. Just remember, we need to stay out of sight, and we can’t let her hit us. If you find the object, grab it if you can.”
Adrien nodded and grabbed the other end of the rope. “Okay. Ready when you are.”
As if on cue, the akumatized victim headed their way, calling for the heroes of Paris to come stop her. She never even saw the rope on the ground in front of her, but she certainly felt it when Adrien and Marinette pulled it taut in time to catch her ankles and send her toppling forward. “How dare you?” she shrieked, thrashing on the ground.
Marinette ducked into an alley and stayed out of sight as she looked the villain over. She gasped. “Her heels.”
She caught sight of a green flash across the way seconds before Chat Noir bounded out and snatched off one of the akumatized victim’s heels. He must have figured it out, too.
Tikki soared up beside her. “Marinette! There you are!”
Marinette grinned. “Right on time. Tikki, spots on!”
Chat Noir was dodging kicks when Ladybug ran out to grab the second shoe. Luckily, she caught the villain by surprise, and in an instant, she broke it over her knee. Chat Noir watched her cleanse and capture the akuma, a sappy smile on his lips as she saved the day again.
She turned to offer her fist up for a fist bump, but instead, he was hugging her and whispering in her ear. “Hey, do you want to grab dinner?”
Ladybug chuckled and wrapped her arms around him. “I thought you’d never ask.”
Both of them jumped when a familiar song began playing, the low voice startling them out of the tender moment. The woman who’d been akumatized groaned and scrambled to pull out her phone. “I can’t believe he actually changed my ringtone to this joke...”
Chat Noir chuckled. “You know… I forgot that was an actual song…”
