so. at some point during october, while i was brainrotting over @neroli9's APJFM (again, if you're alright with reading very explicit nsfw, cannot recommend this fanfiction enough. if not, trust me, it's not your cup of tea) and i thought about how in her fic, there are vastly different perceptions of her mafia!Sans. and i decided i wanted to do a short series of pieces portraying these very different images of him. you can see all 3 of them below the cut!

I think this is so true! Writing APJFM taught me that if I write what I want to read, and I write it honestly and with skill, it will be appreciated. In the two years I've been posting it, my confidence has greatly improved, I've learned a great deal about writing, and I've found just how much I like the feeling of bringing my readers through the highs and lows of a story. I don't know what I'll do next, but with APJFM as the warmup I feel like I can do anything!

Oh, this is so interesting! I love stuff like this, because from my smartphone carrying, Internet-using modern point of view, it can be really hard to envision what life was like in the 1930s. Even just the scene in the most recent chapter where Reader prepares fabric for sewing threw me for a loop -- how did she wash her clothes? Such a basic question, but I had no idea, and honestly just elided it because the chapter was wordy enough. This cool article gets into the question, if you're curious. The 'official' year of APJFM is 1933, but I blithely pick and choose bits from the entire decade, so I imagine that she bought the most top-of-the-line washer from 1939 -- and felt grateful for this wonderful machine Sans' money had bought, because she used to have to heat up water on the stove!

I'm not an expert in 1930s anything besides clothes, and APJFM is so totally not historical fiction, but whenever I've done any sort of research it's always paid off in some fun ways. (Free idea for anyone who wants to write a 1920s or 30s gangster AU Sans/Reader where Reader is not a singer or hit woman: When I was researching what kind of dancing APJFM Reader might have done, I thought a Reader who worked at a taxi dance hall would be all kinds of fun, and rather regretted that I had already made her a secretary!)

Stories are so rich when they have details like this -- thank you for pointing it out to me!

Good morning/afternoon/night. I don't know if you keep track of the reactions your work APJFM causes on your readers, but it's an honor of mine to tell you I physically can't continue reading. Anxiousness overwhelms me about what could possibly come next. What other glorious bullshit (and just how much) would I have to endure, just to see IF any of these mfs gets an happy ending. It both excites and worries me for I know that once, and if I ever, let my curiosity overcome my anxiety to finally read the rest of your work, an unhealthy reaction, and quite possibly obsession, would ensue. Not unlike my reaction to another fanfic that I've read that caused such a deep depression in me, it attracted the numerous concerns from my loved ones. It lasted all but a week, but the reminder is enough not to ever go back and invest myself in such a way ever again. Obviously I didn't learn, and obviously I'm paying for it. Perhaps one day, many years down the line, I'll work up the courage to finally finish this work in my queen size bed, snuggled up next to my future husband, in our tiny house away from the rest of society, both respectfully reading our separate pieces of literature, and he'll watch me work myself up in a tizzy chapter after chapter over an Undertale. Fanfiction. And he'll just have to hear the fangirling of a late aged woman whether he likes it or not. Obviously this is satire, an obsession would not occur, but truthfully I cannot continue until I see the green check mark that says APJFM is finally finished. Thank you, and damn you. Sincerely, one of your readers (or was).

When the book Cujo came out, my mom got so into reading it, and so freaked out by it, that she didn't want to read it when my dad wasn't around. So when he went on a business trip, he was surprised to find it in his luggage. She'd put it there so she wouldn't be tempted to read it and scare herself.

As a person I am sorry to have caused you so much anxiety, but as a writer, I am honored to be in a similar class with Stephen King!

I expect APJFM to be over late spring or early summer 2024. Then you can enjoy the rest 💗

Spoilers under the cut for chapters 1 - 106.

Reader sold herself to Sans to pay for her sister Sasha’s hospital treatments; Sans bought Reader to help him forget his failure to stop the anomaly. Against their better judgments, the two of them fell for each other. When Reader learned the truth about the anomaly, she and Sans made a plan to stop him: she would distract Jerren for as long as possible while Sans figured out how to destroy his power to turn back time. Sans pulled it off — sacrificing himself in the process. Now, no one remembers he ever existed.

Sasha, Frisk and Asriel managed to break the spell on the Surface and bring it down to earth. Then they attacked the Institute for Extraphysical Studies, Jerren’s personal laboratory for studying magic. Jerren anticipated the move, and trapped them in the basement. But breaking the spell sent the magic back to the humans who were present. Both Reader and Frisk’s magic has manifested itself.

APJFM Underfell:

Muffet immediately picks up on Reader's arachnophobia and, instead of setting her at her ease she plays up her spidery aspects and delights in Reader's fear. Reader can't do it; she flees Muffet's lair wearing nothing but her coat. Sasha dies a week and a half later.

I was in discord chat for another UT fic/like other UT fics (by the same creator), and got spoiled about well, what you say in this post:

What a way to find out (well, was more like being, "Well, I hope that isn't the case, because they didn't know for sure either, but them saying that, started to make me really wonder, and then I checked the above post, and found out and/or got stuff confirmed).

I am hoping it is more so Gaster thing, so he is tech. not gone, gone, and/or could even be brought back. Because the boy (Sans) deserves at least some happiness (just from what we know about him and/or can specualte about him from the game. My guy has not had the easiest life to say the least. So that, added with the fic's events too. Man).

Anyways, this makes me hate Jerren all the more. He is a good character, don't get me wrong, but God, do I not like him.

Against their better judgments, the two of them fell for each other. But after angering the anomaly, the reset Sans has long awaited has come and gone, and the two of them are stuck in a short time loop.

After Reader learned the true nature of reality and she and Sans made a breakthrough, she created a plan with him to buy more time by devoting herself to Jerren. Initially Jerren was delighted with one of his characters realizing the truth, and worshiping him as a god, but he soon started to punish and torment her instead, as he turned himself into a god and took over New Ebott. Sasha had a plan to save her sister, but it failed: Jerren figured out her secret and captured her. Now Jerren is going through with the wedding, before going back in time to study Sasha's powers. But at the last minute, Sans slams open the cathedral doors.

I love all three of these pictures individually, but taken as a group I feel like they truly express who APJFM Sans really is! They all show genuine aspects of his character, all hidden from other people to some degree.

One of my favorite comments I ever received on APJFM was:

I don’t think I’ve come across another fic or theory that so closely mirrors how I believe Sans would spiral. Even pulling away the mobster au and the worldbuilding, this feels genuinely like the response Sans would have to the genocide run.

Thank you, not only for the incredible story and all of your dedicated work, but for taking such a thorough and honest look at Sans’ nature.

When I read this, I felt proud that I was able to achieve one of my goals for APJFM, which was exploring all the sides of this character. This included the ones it’s easy to like, like his playfulness and creativity, his kindness and care for others, his brilliance and perceptiveness, the mysteries surrounding him, the sense that he was someone you could rely on, his particular moral code. But it also included the disturbing ones. To me, canon Sans is clearly sadistic, apathetic, controlling, manipulative, calculating, withholding, cruel and violent. (And any honest fic with him as a love interest has to ask, at some point, ‘How is this actually a good idea’?) I feel that way when I look at these pictures. The hyper-capable, dangerous Dead Eyes; the relaxed, playful Sans that Reader knows best, and the Sans who’s been paralyzed by grief, when his hold on reality wasn’t exactly all that strong even before Papyrus died.

I'm sorry to bother you, but i found and binged all 101 available chapters of apjfm over the span of 3 days and well. my heart is shattered. i am physically on the verge of dying (serious: for all intents and purposes that is a joke). please tell me reader's dead friends come back alive, what happened to mettaton and undyne killed me (ok, maybe you can't answer that...). can you at least answer me how many more chapters we have until it's time for kiss kiss fall in love jerren dead forever happy ending for everyone else yay

In all seriousness, I lost sleep binging your fic. It's so well written and the characters feel so alive. The way you write stays true to the personalities of the original undertale characters, fleshes out your own original characters that makes the audience care about them, and it seems like every single event is important in some way. I have never read a fic that made me unable to function at work so badly... please happy ending whEN 😭😭😭

Aw man, there is no way "I'm sorry to bother you" and "I read 661k words of your writing in three days and you totally wrecked me" belong in the same sentence 😂 Every author loves to be bothered with comments like that!

I can't answer about Mettaton and Undyne, but I can say that there are between ten and twenty chapters left. I know it feels hopeless right now... but we are on track for a happy ending. I am honored you've enjoyed APJFM so much! Thank you for telling me about it 🥰 I've put so much of my life into it, but a comment like this makes it feel worth it.
