man wdk why maybe we're just pretentious and cranky right now but whenever people respond to common writing advice with "you can write whatever you want" it's like. yeah obviously. but the people who seek out writing advice and should care about it tend to be the people who need it.
not as in They're Bad but as in a large portion of people who write aspire to be published and to be published your work needs to be marketable and to be marketable you need to follow the rules, save if you deeply understand them and can break them in a manner which retains readability. we mean there's also self publishing but if you get any readers at all your reviews will suffer and as a result your sales will suffer.
there are some publications which take more experimental work but once again you need to understand the rules to break them. there's a big difference between "knowingly breaks rule for a specific purpose" and "makes a bunch of mistakes that will annoy readers at best" and it can be very easy to tell. sort of like the art style vs mistake thing. you can be aware when something is "wrong" but implement it in a way that makes sense and is cohesive with the rest of your work, and you can also just draw the thing wrong. it doesn't matter if you don't plan to do shit with your art so make as many fuck ups as you want but if you aspire to get a job with it then sorry man you're out of luck.
maybe we're just unsympathetic too wdk. cuz apparently people need reminders they can suck shit. you can suck shit 👍 does not change anything about writing advice though or make it less valid in the grand scheme of things.
#conflict of interest#wdk maybe there's a reason people respond that way#but to us its like seeing a post about writing scifi and#as someone who doesnt write scifi#feeling the need to point out that nobody is obligated to write scifi#also regardless of whether or not its for fun#if you post something publicly like on ao3 please use baseline proper syntax and grammar#learn it please if you are of any capacity to learn basic syntax and grammar then do it#not to mention its good for other things. if you plan to work in the future then poor grammar can fuck you over#basic stuff should not be a chore its quick to google rules for dialogue and paragraph breaks and if you need to then just#use a grammar assistant or whatever for punctuation#pedve 'pinions

uhhhhhhhhhh. android-human romance except its told from the pov of the android slowly gaining consciousness.
#emil stop killingyourself with new wip ideas when youve got exams in less that two weeks that you need to start locking in for. challenge#fucking FAILED. im now thinking about how fun it would be to come up with a format for this.#standardized commands slowly turning more and more into something that resembles an inner monologue. an android whos ever only#existed as the personal assistantservantdog for one human gaining an understanding of life but its So limited bc that one person#is all theyve ever known. and the android can only filter everything through the lense of#Oh. This is how [human] thinks. This is what [human] felt when they did this. I am so glad I can feel closer to [human] now.#hmmm. something about going from a personal-impersonal assistant thats there to make someones life better. and being So good at making#that person's life better that they fall in love with you and suddenly your systems malfunctioning bc of it too.#and now Youre the useless one. and they have to be there for you no matter what and help you through the terrifying realization of#Fuck. I can Feel Things. What the Fuck.#writing#this doesnt even have to be 814. could be.. might be since this is a themcentric place but.. i just like the idea man.#also this likely isnt anything novel. i just dont read/consume a lot of android/scifi stuff so. i wouldnt know#i just like the idea of the evolving format and the unreliable narratorness of it all

43 + 53 for both 🙂↕️
HI TIA ! yay yippe thank youuuuuu
for mihangel
43 - What do they commonly misinterpret because of their own upbringing / environment / biases? How do they respond when realizing the misunderstanding?
mihangel was brought up lower middle class in wales in the 80s & even though he had a fairly comfortable life when still living with her family he gets annoyed when someone suggests she get a good proper job (not creative freelancing) or not spend her entire paycheck on camera film & gig tickets & then have to eat beans on toast & two minute noodles for two weeks. like in his head she's still trying to beat the being poor allegations & even when she does understand that getting a proper job would be useful she thinks 'well theres other people who need it more than me because im not really that poor, i could get a better job if i wanted to but i dont'.
53 - Who would / do they believe without question?
her older brother, maddoc. she would probably believe anything that he told her & to be fair maddoc probably wouldnt lie to mihangel unless it was really important. when she was younger he would sometimes have a sort of resentment towards maddoc for being a Perfect Young Man in all the ways mihangel couldnt but with maddoc being five years older, maddoc was also his protector against the world. & sometimes the only one who could coax him out of his shell. so if maddoc is saying something is has to be true. he would rather there be yet another goddamn Scifi Event happen to him than maddoc be lying to her. mihangel is a natural questioner (even if sometimes he keeps the questions to himself, he is wondering) so even when strangeways is reporting back on some batshit thing thats supposedly happened in his mind hes already picking it apart. thats what makes him a good journalist except he always wants to write about people he meets & said batshit things happening so. hence no job lol
brief shoutout to this being technically within the doctor who universe - mihangel really wants to be able to believe what the doctor (twelve or eight) says to her but he did very much lie to her & then dump her back home with no explanation of what happened to her & why shes getting flashbacks to being dead so. even when eight shows up later & seems so much more earnest & gentle than twelve he still doesnt know if anything hes saying really is true. even thought he desperately wants to think it is. he . ahem. wants to believe.
for strangeways
43 - What do they commonly misinterpret because of their own upbringing / environment / biases? How do they respond when realizing the misunderstanding?
strangeways was a masculine young woman in the 1920s so she has this idea that women are naturally weaker & demure, & that She is only strong & capable because she is more masculine, & that its some sort of a skill issue (not the phrase she would use) that other women arent also more masculine & therefore more capable & less giggly & irritating (the phrase she would use). having now lived through the first two or three waves of western feminism & 80s girlboss power suits she has ? sort of ? learned not even necessarily that her point of view is objectively wrong but more that not everyone sees it that way. she does try to keep it to herself around mihangel cos mihangel is transfem (a lot more complicated but under the general term of trans fem) & also generally a lot more gentle than strangeways - like strangeways is totally chill with trans people & everything, shes lived with artists for 50 years & was part of the queer community before it was legal, but every once in a while someone says 'hi girls' to her & mihangel in passing & she starts getting really defensive thats Shes Not A Girl & shes Not Like Those Silly Girls Who Only Care About Clothes & it takes her a minute to realise that actually theres nothing wrong with being a woman & no one was trying to imply she was lesser for it.
but there were times in her life where she passed for a guy in various environments & she Noticed the difference. shes been in her mid 20s for 50ish years & has experienced the same kind of stuff as a man & as a woman & she realised the difference in how she was treated.
53 - Who would / do they believe without question?
strangeways was also raised catholic & went to a catholic school & every once in a while she'll get a very hard to shake idea that something is a message from god. she hasnt been practicing for decades (being pulled in a rip in time itself will make you question whether god really knew what he was doing) but when she really really needs to do some reflecting she'll find a big beautiful old church & sit in the back row & think. she doesnt go to confession though there are things that she doesnt want Anyone to know about ever not even a priest & she figures well if god is real then he knows already why do i have to tell someone ten steps down the line from him. the last time she went to confession she felt so bad about whatever it was that she had done she ended up fudging the details cos she felt a) guilty about it b) like it was a stupid thing to be worried about and c) realised as soon as she opened her mouth that she didnt want to tell anyone anyways & she wasnt going to feel any better.
but all that said. in her work both on folklore & the stuff shes been doing with mihangel, tracking down places where time has gone a bit weird & all the associated phenomena - like a large part of 'unexplained activity' has been attributed to acts of god of angels or saints & sometimes strangeways finds herself a little too easily convinced of those ones. a little too prepared to believe in divine intervention.
on a more earthly level - where mihangel can veer wildly between indecisiveness & impulsive behaviour, strangeways once she makes a descicion is unlikely to change it . in a way she believes staunchly in her own ability & has been living independently for so long she trusts herself more than anything. if she knows what she saw, then thats what is was. she doesnt always feel the need for 'evidence' of anything is shes knows on her heart that she saw it
#thanks for the ask!!#oc - mihangel#oc - strangeways#these were really good questions ough........ i might need to answer some of these just for funsies lol. my little imaginary guys....#:]

ranking books ive read in 2023:
i actually read this year!!! so im ranking books (and their series) too :-) no gifs for this one because. yknow. theyre books. also im not including manga bc ive only read one this year and its dunmeshi and it would take first place. easy as.
6. the guncle (steven rowley, 2021)
brief summary: the book is about a man who lost his partner some years back, and is now known as the “guncle” (gay uncle) to his niece and nephew, who he takes care of for a few weeks while their mother is on vacation.
i was gifted this book as a joke gift last year, as the title’s like a syllable off from an in-joke in my friend group, but i decided to give it a read anyway. its the first modern, non-fantasy, non-scifi story ive read/watched/played in YEARS. not a whole lot stuck with me, as it’s simply not my genre of story, but it was very sweet.
5. the worst journey in the world (apsley cherry-garrard, 1924)
brief summary: an account written by cherry-garrard 11 years after his return from scott’s antarctic expedition. the author was primarily involved in the months-long task of retrieving emperor penguin eggs for study, and the journey to and from this point are what he calls the worst journey in the world.
ive discovered this year that antarctica fascinates me. everything about it from its landscapes to ecology to how to survive there is incredible to me. i decided to pick up the cherry-garrard book as a first-hand account of it, and its truly worth it to learn from someone who was there back in 1911 what it was actually like (without being focused on the race to the south pole). cherry-garrard has a very interesting writing style that really helps to flesh out what the experience was like, and the sheer amount of first hand sources he took from his fellow expedition members gives it a really rounded view. like anything from back then theres a few things that aged super poorly, but as a source of information i really enjoyed it.
4. project hail mary (andy weir, 2021)
brief summary: a man wakes up on a spaceship with no memory of how he got there, but with the ship failing around him.
my dad read this book in 2 days (unheard of for him) and immediately handed me his copy. i read it in a day. the author’s writing style is very entertaining, and while it’s a bit too quippy for my tastes, the actual story and how its paced had me glued to it. great use of real-world physics in a scifi story, which is what really stood out to me.
3. the priory of the orange tree (samantha shannon, 2019)
brief summary: on one half of the world, a spy-turned-lady in waiting gets close with the queen who’s the descendant of the one who sealed away the dragons centuries ago. on the other half of the world, a young woman tries to become selected to become a dragon-rider.
i learned after reading this book that apparently its one of those booktok ones… i picked it up on a whim last year when the cover caught my attention, and decided to read it while i was on a work trip earlier this year. i really enjoyed it! there were a lot of twists and turns in the story, but none of them felt like they were there just to surprise you. the POV characters had such different views about a lot of things that it was interesting to piece together the real story despite their biases. the romance was nicely developed, and the ending of the book felt natural and satisfying. all i can really ask for in a book of this size
2. the wax and wayne series (brandon sanderson, 2011-2022)
brief summary: (spoilers for the mistborn series) this four-book series takes place over a century from the end of the mistborn series. the magic system, allomancy, exists in tandem with the industrial age. the main character is a lawman from the equivalent of the wild west who’s returned to lead his family house in the city after his uncle’s death, and has to navigate new social norms with how much he doesnt want to be here.
the magic and industrial fusion of this series is amazing. sanderson has always been meticulous about creating and maintaining the rules of his magic systems, and allomancy is incredibly well done. the whole “wild west lawman moves to the city” story isnt something i’ve ever loved, but these books do a decent job of it, and it comes across as more anti-nobility than just colonialist. the mysteries in this series are attention-grabbing, and the supporting characters get good development too (even if it takes a few books for it to pay off). im doing a character-specific shoutout to steris, who i am so very fond of despite how underrated she is in the first few books.
1. the mistborn trilogy (brandon sanderson, 2006-2008)
brief summary: the world is divided into the elite class that can use allomancy, and the skaa, an enslaved class which can not. the main character finds out she’s one of two known skaa who are considered mistborn — people who can use all allomantic powers, instead of just one. she gets dragged into a resistance cell planning to take down the leader of the [NAME], the all-powerful lord emperor, despite their low, low odds of success.
i just love brandon sanderson’s work, but man this series is incredible. its fascinating to see the main character develop along with the story. she makes mistakes and shes deeply flawed and doesnt know herself at times but the impact she has on the world and the way the world changes her in return are just so so well written. the allomancy system is so well developed, as is sanderson’s modus operandi, and it’s so thrillingly used that it feels like im practically there. incredibly immersive. the twists and the lore reveals always fit perfectly into place while still surprising me. the world of scadriel is detailed and so easily pictured despite its bleakness, and as things change in the world through the series its difficult to look away from. 10/10

tbh, as someone who rarely reads YA and as an adult just cant relate to its tone and setting most of the time i find the idea that reading YA as an adult is inherently bad to be pretty short sighted. there’s lots of work made for younger readers that has literary merit. should you ONLY read YA if you want to be a well-read adult with a strong sense of what writing is? of course not. but i find pretension over what people choose to read to be ultimately useless.
i feel like there can always be value to nearly any kind of reading so long as the writer is skilled and dedicated. graphic novels, kindle erotica, schmaltzy YA, brick-sized pulp scifi, even fanfiction. reading is reading. of course not every book has the same literary “value” so to speak but i find it very difficult to ascribe literary morality (for lack of a better term) to favoring an “immature” medium or genre.
tbh i find reading mostly YA as an adult to be a poor choice IF YOUR GOAL IS TO BE WELL-READ OR WRITE ANYTHING NOT YA (if youre just reading for fun who gives a fuck lol). but also lately im seeing a lot of writers increasingly narrow the scope of what counts as meaningful reading (”it can’t be fanfiction! it can’t be best sellers! it can’t be beach reads! it can’t be romance novels! it can’t be squeecore!”) and i think its ultimately a useless endeavor. you cant just write off entire genres as dreck, it’s not helpful imo. i’ve seen SOME YA novels with much better prose than SOME adult novels. neither is a monolith.
like i see so many people mad about “oh the classics arent that important” takes but tbh it feels just as ignorant to act as if engaging with certain types of literature at all as wholly useless outside of leisure. ive learned a lot from some YA books, even as someone who doesnt really enjoy them often anymore.
God this post is long. anyway. books.

Hello! I’m your Klaroline Swap gifter👀 I am sorry it's taken me this long to reach out but I've finally gotten to it! I am excited to be writing for you and wanted to ask a few questions about your gift. Wanted to know about your all-time favorite tropes and side pairings? Any Caroline friendships you like? Any tropes or pairings you don't like? Any pet peeves with KC fic? Any smut preferences? Anything you especially want to see or any info you'd like me to know? Hope you have a great day!💖
Heyyy!! Thank you for sending me this ask, and please don't apologize, it’s all good 💖 I hope you're having a great day too! So I’ll just jump in and answer all your questions ✌🏾✨
I am so so sorry it got this long, like so long, I really tried to condense it, but I have no concept of short and concise so now I have to put this below a cut 😭🙃😭
All time favourite tropes:
[see here's the thing I dont exactly *know* what tropes are so I'm just gonna yeet a bunch of HIGHLY specific prompt-thingies that make me tingle at you and you can do w them what you wish- like take out certain parts you want to use, or base other tropes off of them anything you wish really, even if you choose to ignore all of them I won't be holding it against you dw!]
Ok so I love love the "I was just captured by the bad guys and very harshly uh demanded to sell you out, but I didnt, bc even though I might posture like you’re the scourge of the earth and would gladly see you dead, I in fact, do not want you dead and will therefore not be selling you out and will handle mild -emphasis on mild please do not hurt either of my babies too much- torture instead and oops! look at that, you just overheard this exact exchange where I stand my ground and refuse to betray you, and now you’ve gone feral over your loyalty kink and are spouting promises of never letting go of me, which honestly I cannot bring myself to be mad at."
I love love love the forced bedsharing trope which then leads to accidental cuddling, where one party [caroline] is just very very annoyed that their body sought the warmth of a cockroach fucknugget being [klaus] and the fucknugget party is just very very smug about being the other party's personal space heater, and nuzzles them and cuddles tighter and asdfghjkl I'm getting tingly just thinking about it, and like says w a husky sleepy voice “don't move” and cuddles closer. jfc please I’m a basic bitch with very basic wants.
I absolutely LOVE the "we work on opposite enemy sides, but now we have to band together to defeat one common enemy and honestly I am NOT glad that I constantly wanna throw you against a wall, and not all reasons for said wall-throwing are strictly to inflict violence on you."
I also LOVE the "fuck youre bleeding/hurt/injured and fucking hell I dont know why my hands are shaking while I attend to your wounds but god it is, and now I'm not sure exactly how deep you've furrowed into my heart and stuck yourself there like a dickheaded leech."
Now I feel like I have given you many tropes, but I also feel like i didnt in fact help you at all, bc I'm not sure these are uh tropes?? but anyway those are some highly specific...scenes?? I have a very deep bias for
[you obviously dont HAVE to write ANY of them if you dont want to]
And also if I had to give you a clear cut trope to follow, I absolutely LOVE the enemies-to tentative allies-to lovers trope, in which one party is just working really really hard to get to the lovers part, and the other is working really really hard not to get to the lovers part, but caves later on, bc really the fucker grows on you. [Featuring Klaus as the "high key besotted already pursuing Caroline"-person, and Caroline is the "I am very very annoyed w this wooing, but I am more annoyed this wooing is working"-person. And also, I like my Klaus E V I L, But really really really *soft* for Caroline.]
Also if by tropes you meant settings, Like AU's, literally anything works, I have a personal bias for Crime AU's when it comes to enemies to lovers, and Canon is the ultimate enemies to lovers AU, but honestly you can use which ever one you want, I am not entirely sure myself if I have a specific preference here, AH, Fantasy, Supernatural, Scifi, it's all good.
[I however am not extremely fond of Historical Settings]
Again you are not required to follow any of these tropes at all if you don't wish to, I just require you to have a lot of fun writing and love the beauty you write yourself first!
Side pairings:
Ok I LOVE me some Kennett [kol + bonnie] but I also LOVEEE kolenzo [Kol and Enzo], I also am extremely just *heart eyes* at Bonenzo [Bonnie + enzo], but I absolutely DIE for Kennettzo [which is OT3 of Kol Bonnie and Enzo]
Kalijah is also a-ok w me, and I feel like I dont have any other side pairings I'd like die to see I guess. If you choose not to go with these side pairings its perfectly alright.
Caroline Friendships:
Ok this I can answer without rambling like an idiot, I love love love love :
Bonnie + Caroline [like i love this so much it physically hurts me, they both deserve so so so much better]
Kol + Caroline [I will literally touch a frog, and I have a phobia of frogs, to have one full conversation w these two idiots]
Enzo + Caroline [Honestly enzoline brotp makes me wanna sob happy tears bc they are so perfect together]
Katherine + Caroline + Rebekah [bad bitch meets head bitch meets super bitch, what could possibly go wrong]
Tropes and Pairings I dont like:
NOTPS:
Kolvina, stebekah, delena, stelena, datherine, steferine, Haylijah, Marcel+Rebekah, Matt+Rebekah, Bamon, Kai+bonnie, beremy.
And I think that's about it? mostly I just hate elena stefan damon and hayley and I am not fond of them w anyone, I hate all canon Rebekah relationships, and I dont like seeing Bonnie with anyone other than enzo or kol.
Tropes:
I am totally not fond of the Kill Liz for plot reasons trope, like seriously killing Caroline's mom is not ok w me, but I am totes fine if she's like already dead as part of Caroline's backstory, just don't show me Liz dying in the story as a part of the plot.
Any form of sire-bond-y or like sire-bond adjacent or like any form of deal/bargain/agreement that gives Klaus even a tiniest bit of power over Caroline's free will and choices, is just not for me, like at all, no matter how well it's done, I can't stand it.
not fond of any form of prisoner/hostage tropes, like klaus kidnapping caroline or caroline kidnapping klaus and holding each other hostage and stuff like that.
Death as a plot point doesnt work for me? and really I'd prefer if there were no major character deaths at all.
Friends to lovers trope is not for me, childhood friends to lovers trope is definitely not for me.
I don't like any sort of redemption arc really, anything that starts with Klaus as a “bad” dude and ends with him being a relatively “good” dude is not for me.
Any form of infidelity, like ofc especially in between Klaus and Caroline is just [shudder] hard pass, but like I also hate it when Caroline or Klaus cheat on anybody at all.
Also all the tropes and like themes I'm not comfy w that I mentioned in my original Gift Request still stand.
KC Pairing Pet peeves
ok This I can answer easily bc I have like a FEW,
I hate a woobified Klaus so much, like so much, I hate all TO!Klaus characterizations but this one is the worst, absolutely not here for it, I am not here to feel sorry for this mf I want to feel really deliriously GIDDY at how evil he is and how whipped he is for Caroline, but like concentrating on Klaus's manpain is not something I really wanna read.
Caroline excusing Klaus's bullshit, or like being a push over-y “it's ok, I understand why you did it” person is not for me, bc she never was one to begin w, she never did rationalize or justify Klaus's behaviour, she always held him accountable and told him what a difficult son of a bitch he is every chance she got.
I don't like arcs where Caroline is Klaus's redemption? like Caroline bringing Klaus into the "light" or whatever I am not here for it, like at all, I like Klaus staying evil while being endlessly in love with Caroline, and Caroline being able to be w a man she knows is a selfish evil ruthless grade A asshole, but will literally also choke himself to death for Caroline, cuz the man is whipped as fuck.
I also absolutely am not a fan of arcs where like Caroline remains "pure" or whatever, like that's just not for me, I am totally fine, actually MORE than fine for ruthless Caroline who is willing to do deplorable shit to get to her goal and protect her people, like Caroline being extremely almost evilly pragmatic just gives me a boner, and pretty sure gives Klaus one too. Klaus "protecting" Caroline's so called innocence is uh off putting for me personally. And her remaining this pure white light princess of good and Klaus being attracted to the *good* in her is um, nope.
Smutty Preferences
Honestly I’m very easy when it comes to smut [and u totally dont have to write me any if you dont want to]
I do not like:
non con/dub con, anal sex, Strict and/or elaborate Bdsm themes, [light undertones are ok], drunk sex, sex that’s basically infidellity [like caroline/klaus cheating on someone else w each other] , gagging, choking, Extremely rough emotionless sex, sex as a bargain, or as a part of a bargain.
Smut preferences:
I like reading oral sex, especially Klaus going down on Caroline
light bondage like being tied up [either Klaus/Caroline I enjoy both]
Sex toys are really really good, like love reading Klaus using one on Caroline, or Caroline using one on herself and Klaus watching
I do have a special love for praise kink, especially Klaus being really just in awe of Caroline during the do and expressing it uninhibitedly
Dirty Talk is GREAT
I enjoy both Klaus and Caroline in a dominant role, but I usually love it when both of them share the dominance equally, I’m just not into “Yes master” and “Yes mistress” level of dominance. I guess the word I’m looking for is Vanilla dominance lmao.
Bloodplay is also great if they're vampires.
And Klaus and Caroline leaving marks on each other is *swoon*.
I love reading possessive!klaus and possessive!caroline in equal measure so really your choice.
Hot and Dirty sex with a an undercurrent of emotion and devotion, want and need and all that nice stuff is great!
But I do have a list of words I’m not really a big fan of coming across when I’m reading smut:
Any word for vagina that’s not wetness, or folds or lips, is squicky, cunt is not a problem, pussy however is squick.
Clit is clit; little nub, bundle of nerves, all of that makes the med student in me really anxious lmao.
Any word for Cock that’s not cock is squick.
Juices, cream, semen are squicky, I just prefer come or release.
Ok these are seemingly innocent words but moist, engorged, gaping, drooling, sopping are not words I like seeing in context of smut.
So yeah that’s about it, I know hi, it’s been what, eleventy bajillion years since the beginning of this ask, I am so so so sorry for being this difficult, and really, LIKE SERIOUSLY, except for my squicks you are more than welcome to just skip past everything else, since I’m not really that hard to please, as long as the no-no’s are not there in what I read and the dynamic I asked for is even just vaguely followed I will be really really really happy and really I just want you to have fun writing whatever you feel like cooking up, I’m superrrr excited to see your interpretation of my request!!!
[Also Please please send me another ask clarifying you got my answer and also telling me I haven't frightened you with this long ass rambling list of okay’s and no-no’s bc honestly I am just anxiously debating if I should answer this ask like this or yeet half of it and vaguely rewrite the answer.]
Hope you have a great day lovely!! I am once again sorry for being this difficult. ✨💖🤝🏾

How do you come up with so many new ideas for stories? I feel like I’m constantly stumped and stuck with cliches (and while those are fun and I absolutely love them) I can never really think of something to make it my own? When I see your writing I feel like you’re able to take cliches and make it your own so much it no longer feels like one, I’m always so worried about making a story to similar to another when trying to put a spin on a classic trope, also! Hope youre doing okay during this time
hi anon!!!
such a good question to bring up! for me, personally, inspiration comes really easy bc im really easy. that sounds weird but i basically consume any form of media across various genres that would catch my interest. i read, watch, play (games mostly lol), etc and maintain a variety of interest in like all sort of things so i pull ideas from a lot of diff places. like, i REALLY REALLY love animals and nature documentaries so i like to incorporate that into my stories w/ in the form of post-apocalyptic mermaids au (what happen when majority of humans leave earth and those left behind returns to the oceans bc i watch a fake nature doc about mermaids which are apparently sea ape and how how all live originate in the sea) or plant au (where the earth is living entity and try to take back the planet w overgrown murderous plants and descend into a world of nature taking REVENGE etc). i also really REALLY like watching doc about history of conquered so that influence my writing a lot lol. so yea, i take inspo in all these media i consumed and turn it into something i want to read. so having all these various interests that are all over the place i dont have a problem jumping from one genre to the next and never really get bored! you can see me talking endlessly about the various media i have consumed (i.e shoujo/shounen/yaoi etc manga/webtoon, asian dramas, games, tv shows) and im always open to new ones too!! being open minded to try out things not in my comfort zone was such a huge help for me and now im like ok that sounds cool i’ll try it lol.
also, i really what i call genre mashing like combining two things that dont usually go together automatically like ??? post apocalyptic mermaids??? the princess bride but steampunk?? OR beauty and the beast au in space?? LIKE all are ideas i have talk huge amount about bc i love putting familiar ideas and throwing it some weird wild settings and just HAVE FUN. if you have something you think been done a millions time before (which is not WRONG AT ALL) just think how you could do it different this time around or look at it in a diff perspective. like, i wrote a hundred arrange marriage royalty au AND I APOLOGETICALLY LOVES THEM and each time im like i already did desert setting so i’ll go for some winter setting this time around; or i’ll make them childhood friends last time, i’ll go for enemies; in other fic i explored theme of duty vs heart, now i want to explore war themes etc so like i dont intentionally try to make it diff but i just think how the story & chars may go if i take on a diff direction and sometimes that little change can have a rippling effect and turn into a whole diff story. so yea, dont be afraid to ask yourself WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF–? bc who knows where it take you!
this also translate to when im reading fanfics of other ppl and I READ A LOT. LIKE A SHIT TON. if im not writing im usually reading something. when im reading other ppl’s fic i get to see their take on certain tropes or how they address certain that i may really like a lot and i want to tackle it on my own but that also lead to if i run into a branch in the story where the author does it certain way but i think myself hmm…. what if this happen the other way and THAT GIVES ME IDEA. like, dont let hold yourself back from reading other fanfics bc you’re afraid you get similar ideas when the whole of fandom is about inspiring each other. inspiration =/= carbon copy. i openly talked about my ideas all the time and not possessive about it bc sometimes ppl would ask me if they can write something base of it and i 99% say yea go ahead bc the way they write it would be diff from how i write it even though it’s the same concept, how i write the chars & the themes may be diff from how they view it. you can HAVE THE SAME IDEA BUT DIFF EXECUTION. that’s the most important part!!! it is not plagiarizing bc seeding an idea is like part of fandom and it becomes trend a lot the way ABO gets around the fandom like wildfire lmao.
last but not least, be THE FIC YOU WANT TO READ. this is why you usually see me starting a conversation w a i really, really LOVE/LIKE etc and ramble away about an idea and how it’ll go. a lot of my stories are a reflection of my interests like how im always talking endlessly about kingdoms, war, and rulers and conquerors bc im just really fascinated by it lmao /o. and there’s also all those single parents fic i wrote bc i deeply empathized with it due my childhood being raised by a single mother. and there are times when things that matter to me i put in my stories, like im hitting my 30s soon and im still single. i think i dont mind being like that but i want to have children so how would that work out?? things that plague me in real life i address in fics in term of surrogacy & sperm donation bc it’s something i consider about wanting a family when you’re single and dont have a partner. every fic or idea i have ever written or talk about you can see my fingerprints all over it bc they’re things i deeply, truly care and am interest about that i want IT TO EXIST IN THE WORLD so i write it out. i algo get really annoyed when im there’s a trend in fandom to take a trope in certain direction and i just dont like it lmao (i.e. villain!deku im more focus on izuku getting his redemption and how & yandere au WHEN THEY ARE EQUALLY CRAZY ABOUT EACH OTHER) so i put my frustration and complaint into a fic. you can see this clearly in a lot of my ABO fics where i tend to put omegas often on top bc that’s just my particular taste. i dont try to buckle trend just to be contrary but i do it when my taste doesn’t match theirs and ya know be the fic you see in the world basically lol. just bc something is popular by the mass doesn’t mean you have to follow it even IF YOU THINK YOU’RE THE ONLY ONE WHO LIKE IT, let assure you’re wrong. there will always be someone who taste clicks with yours OR you can persuade them just by writing a kickass fic and just stand by what they wrote. sometimes, i find myself falling in love with a story i would never consider reading at all bc i dont like the trope or themes just bc the writing is v v v good or the writer CLEARLY LOVE WHAT THEY WROTE THAT THEY PUT THEIR HEART AND SOUL INTO IT and i can see it in their writing and im swayed. so yea, don’t think of putting a new spin on old cliche but try to think of as making it your own by doing it how you WOULD GO AT IT. how would you write the million abo fic? what do you like to see? HISTORICAL, SCIFI, FANTASY? how would you categorized ABO?? go for classic alphas rules society and omegas are lower class? or do the total opposite?? like DON’T FORCE yourself to be diff, just let it come to you and im sure you’ll be able to make it your own bc look there’s like a million fics on ao3 AND EVEN MORE THAN MILLION original novels in real life. you’re not going to invent anything new that had never seen before so dont try be diff but be yourself and soon you’ve have something that is solely your owns and nobody else and that’s the best advice i can give.
a;sjdf;as sorry this is such a incoherent mess but i LOVE, LOVE cliches just as much as i like trope breaking them and it doesnt matter where you fall on the line as long as you can enjoy what you create that’s all that matter! i hope whatever i said help you out a little and lighten your worry just a bit. and thanks for the question bc it really is intrestingl !!!!! and i hope you’re staying safe and please take care bc im doing ok for now lol!!

Can I get a Matchup? Male or Female doesnt matter, Im Bi. About me: Im 5'9", Im a girl. Im pale and somewhat freckly and I have red/dark brown hair. Ive always had really long hair until this past week, I chopped it all off and its really short now. I'm a tech major and I love building and designing sets and costumes for film and stage. I also write and draw quite a lot in my spare time. I used to have really bad social anxiety and it sometimes flares up now and again. T-T1/2
People tell me Im really funny so someone with a good sense of humor would be much appreciated. I tend to overthink things if I get stuck on something for too long, I also get twitchy. I find emotional intelligence as irresistible as it is rare. I love studying world history, languages, and gardening. People also tell me I’m really good at working with kids and animals (and plants). I love storytelling and scifi. Please send me someone who snuggles and who will laugh at my jokes. T-T2/2
Your match is...

Yamato/Tenzo!
He will both snuggle with you and laugh at your jokes!
He isn't the funniest character ever, but I do think Yamato knows his way around a joke or two.
He tries to prevent you from overthinking and is supportive if your social anxiety randomly flares up.
He's definitely not the best with his emotions, but he is aware of them and can control them. That's 2/3 steps to emotional intelligence lol.
Pleasee tell him stories. He loves it.

i think a big part of why ppl are more upset about like... bowers stans and such versus stans of other villains in other fandoms is bc the villains themselves are very real world problem villains. and sure killing ppl and robbing banks is like real and shit like that happens, but its not like.... its not something that resonates with every person as a bad experience theyve once had. like most people havent come into contact w/ a murderer (and known it, at least) or someone over the top bad like most super villains in dc comics and scifi stuff. but these guys? theyre all kinds of real-life bad. especily henry. henry is racist, misogynistic, homophobic (despite being gay, like, hes literally that trope), ablist, fat-phobic, and hs the most fragile masculinity of anyone ive ever heard of, among many other things. he is entirely a product of his own fear of being/refusal to be introspective at all, and his terrible environment. it makes sense that he’d be this way with no one in his life to be any sort of positive influence, BUT, it also makes total sense to hate his guts. just because the reasons why he’d be this way are comprehensible enough, doesnt mean that anyone has to feel sorry for him or want the best for him. but it also doesnt mean that anyone who finds him interesting or wants to give him a chance at happiness is inherently bad. it doesnt mean that people who want him to have a better grip on himself or want an alternate universe where he gets his shit together and is good are bad, i dont think. I dont think anyones bad for either opinion on henry or any of the other bowers gang members unless tht opinion condones all the shit they do or tries to pretend that it aint that bad. its horrendous. especially henry. even if there are reasons hes like that. even if he was becoming more and more affected by pennywise through out the book. even if hes only 12 nd it mkes sense that he hasnt thought for himself yet. he’s still, in all the book’s canon, shitty. it’s totally alright to write au’s where he stops being shitty, but dont pretend hes not. (on another note, its’ also totally alright to be of the belief that he couldnt ever be not shitty. I can see both sides of that) (p.s. yes i realize ptrick is worse than henry but he’s also still more over the top than him and not as many people seem to like him anyways, from what i can see, because he’s less pitiful maybe?? and theres less explanation for him??? idk.) tldr: it makes sense to dislike henry/the other bowers gang members (but mostly henry) and no one is bad for doing so, OR bad for liking him and/or wanting him to be better either as long as they dont agree with the shit he does in canon

Winter Anime 2019 Part 4: That’s all, folks.

Over already? This is a pretty thin season with not a lot of shows, so it’s not that surprising that there’s not many good ones either. Still, a weak showing. Oh well, let’s get it over with. There were a few decent ones in the last batch.
Circlet Princess

What: Dimwitted schoolgirl is good at some vaguely defined virtual fighting sport, changes school based on it, finds out relevant club has been abolished. Forecast says: 5 member plot incoming.
❌ I think it’s already clear this show isn’t very ambitious, and not very well written either. A game adaptation at its laziest.
❌❌ Man, this girl is STUPID. What the hell.
❌ The rest of the cast are less stupid (which isn’t hard), but that just means they’re so forgettable they might as well not exist.
❌❌ It looks cheap, and by that I mean really really cheap. The character design is ISO standard anime and it’s mostly on model, but that’s as good as it gets. The animation just sucks. That’s a death sentence for an action/sports show with terrible characters.
Bermuda Triangle - Colorful Pastrale

What: Japanese Spongebob, as in cute mermaids. Doing things optional.
❌ To make this quick, this is almost exactly Pastel Memories, only every problem is just a little less extreme. It has fewer characters, it’s looking slightly better, there’s a tiny bit more going on, the setting is mildly more interesting. That still means it is:
❌❌ 1. A boring mess in which a handful of samey girls do nothing of much interest in a location that should be unique, but isn’t.
❌❌ 2. Conspicuously cheap. It even has the same sightline problems.
❌❌ 3. Featuring a character model sheet that is “off” even under the best circumstances. This time due to the very offputting decision to give everyone blobby triangular irises.
❌❌ Unlike Pastel Memories (which was an ad for a mobile game) this is an anime original, so it really has no excuse being this lame.
♎ I find it amusing that Pastel Palettes are providing the OP for an anime, and it’s not the one currently airing that they’re actually characters in.
Endro~!

What: Kiraralike comedy thing in a generic JRPG setting.
♎ Namori character designs, so it’s like Spyce in that it just seems like the Yuru Yuri cast cosplaying a genre. But hey, Namori character designs do look good.
❌ I’m not as done with generic JRPG settings as with generic isekai settings, but it’s still a real problem since the former is now a subset of the latter. Mildly making fun of it does not improve things much either.
✅ The tone is cutesy and pleasant. I find this much preferable to something like Mahoujin Guru Guru, which is pretty much the same thing but with abrasive, high-intensity slapstick instead.
✅ It’s backing that up with generally high-quality, agreeable pastel looks.
❌ Not being annoying is a start, but beyond that this seems very middle of the road and predictable. I don’t get much out of the genre “parody” and simply being cute is still not an unique selling point in anime.
Grimms Notes The Animation

What: Did someone say JRPG? This is a mobile one, vaguely based on fairy tales as the title implies.
✅ This universe runs on the idea that every NPC’s fate is controlled by a preset story they’re aware of. You could make a good story about that if you took it seriously. It even does that somewhat, but only to the degree that you’d expect from a throwaway sidequest in a moderately well-written JRPG.
❌ And the reason for that is that it has to make room for being a JRPG, of course. Read: It’s irritatingly mechanics- and combat-focused. Stuff like the characters changing form when in fights just seems overly complicated and adds nothing.
❌ Said combat looks competent, but not good enough to make up for detracting from what could have been an interesting setting. Merc Storia did this aspect far better (by usually not doing it at all).
❌ So it ends up being better than expected, but then that only amounts to a disappointment.
Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai / Kaguya-sama: Love Is War

What: Kaguya and Miyuki are in the student council of a prestigious school and HATE HATE HATE each other. Specifically, they hate the part where the other one won’t just finally admit their love.
✅ The joke here is that it’s operating on full intensity at all times, over the most simple matters. It’s pretty much Kaiji, only about dating - complete with hammy narrator. This is another one of those shows where I can’t say with certainty that it’s solid, but I had a blast during the first episode.
✅ Regarding Quintuplets, I made it clear that I love me some sparks in my romantic comedies. It doesn’t get much more explosive than this.
✅ The characters are comparable to Quints too: Smart scheming upstart vs. rich scheming ojou, with a simpleminded girl in the middle that ends up winning more often than not simply by not overdoing it.
✅ The visuals are just as over the top as the proceedings depicted. Occasionally a filter massacre, but mostly cool.
♎ The long-term viability of this show depend entirely on whether they can consistently come up with scenarios that work, which isn’t a given. Also, this is so intense it might become tiresome - I already felt some fatigue towards the end of the first episode. We’ll see, I guess.
Kakegurui ××

What: Some weirdos think they can crash the party at Hyakkaou with an intent to scare the daylights out of Yumeko and Midari, of all people. Let’s just say they were not as prepared as they thought.
✅ As you might have guessed by me watching the sequel, I liked Kakegurui. It has its problems, but if you’re down for some crazypants madness, this show delivers.
✅ This is one of the better episodes of it too, because it gets right into it and the game they play is dead simple. Kakegurui was never about smart moves or strong characters, so not having anything detract from our girls deriving the entirely wrong sort of pleasure from danger is a plus.
♎ Sadly, the OP is a step down (though still great) and the ED is simply an inferior, overcomplicated version of the magnificent original one. They seem to know this too, because they play the OP cut of Deal with the Devil in its entirety for a montage. The rest of the production is on par with the original though, so it’s fiiiine. Oh well.
❌ It got Netflix’d again and the subs situation is dire. Since this is one I actually like, I might have to wait for the official release.
Kouya no Kotobuki Hikoutai / The Magnificent Kotobuki

What: Piston-engined fighter plane pornography.
✅ This delivers where Girly Air Force failed: Close to zero exposition, the majority of the episode is just planes dogfighting with barely any talking either. And that part is executed really well. I think the plane startup sequence alone is as long as the total of Girly’s airtime.
✅ Guess what, it’s Tsutomu Mizushima, previously known for unbridled panzer (und girls) pornography, and boy can you tell. However, this cuts out a lot of GuP’s bullshit: A plane doesn’t have the cast of K-ON in it, it’s not over-the-top zany, and whatever this universe is, it can’t be as insipid as GuP’s. The classy milwank exists you guys, we found it.
✅✅ The music really helps here, sky pirates vs zeppelins just wouldn’t work without some classic swashbuckling orchestra background. Fat sound mixing on the dakka too. It’s great.
♎ Can’t really say much about the narrative because we kinda skipped that in this episode aside from the obvious, but Mizushima’s Shirobako collaborator Michiko Yokote is writing it, and that’s a good sign.
❌ Now we’re getting to the elephant in the room though: There’s no way the planes wouldn’t be CG in 2019, but the characters are CG too, and their animation is mediocre. Also, they did the KADO thing where they 2D-animated the side characters that aren’t important enough to model. This has the funny side effect that you can tell who’s going to die real soon by them looking better. It’s far from great, but probably a worthy tradeoff if the mechanical side is this extensive and also delivers.
✅ This is definitely not for everyone, since you have to have more than a casual appreciation for those magnificent girls in their flying machines. I do, though.
revisions

What: A chunk of Shibuya gets teleported to the dystopian future, local doomsday prepper gets handed a large robot because he’s special.
❌ A Goro Taniguchi joint being a poorly conceived scifi mess? Say it ain’t so! I especially dig the tryhard English jargon (mecha: “String Puppet”, monsters faction: “Revisions”, particular monster, I think?: “Civilian”, tacticool operetah: “Balancer”).
❌ Works very hard to characterize the main character, to the detriment of everyone else. A for effort, but you made an unlikeable asshole though.
❌ This is another full CG show, with the quality of the animation being curiously variable. Sometimes it’s well above average and sometimes it’s painful. There doesn’t seem to be much method to it.
✅ Tries to establish stakes by being mondo edgy and graphically murderizing some poor bystanders. It’s adorable.
❌ If you’re really jonesing for some mecha, you can watch all of this on Netflix right now. It’s not like you have any alte- wait, Egao no Daika has mecha too. Well there you go then. That’s a better show.

Spej reads fantasy novels
because I like to do book reports so long as I’m not actually being assigned to do so
I decided to start making read-a-long reviews of the fantasy novels I’ve been reading recently- partly out of a desire to analyze why I liked or didnt like them, and partly because I like having an audience when I talk about writing stuff.
Some info about me- I’m an illustrator who has also dabbled quite a bit in writing. I make a webcomic- named junkyard heroes, check it out on my sidebar- and have written some horrible horrible novels. Mainly nanowrimos. In any case, I really love fantasy and scifi.
The first rule of Spej: If the book doesnt give you back strain when picking it up then you need a bigger book
Personally, some of my favorite authors include Brandon Sanderson and Patrick Rothfuss. You’ll probably see a bit of a stylistic bias as I post these reviews/analyses, and that’s because I’m a human being who has preferences and I like the things I like. However in an attempt to be at least productively gushing, I’ll try to focus on the structural things I like so it’s not just me talking for pages on how I like x scene or whatever. These reviews aren’t intended to act as a summary of the whole plot- I’m just going to attempt to give a brief summary of the plot at large and then move on to analyzing what I think worked and didn’t work. Also, and I think this’ll be kinda obvious, SPOILERS will be discussed. I’ll try to be careful but if youre someone who doesnt like any spoilers at all, you should probably blacklist this tag #spejreadsbooks
The first series I’m going to be reviewing is Malazan Book of the Fallen. I got it on ebook, primarily cause its ten books and each is at least six hundred pages and I literally don’t have shelf space for it. I hope you enjoy!

Thats understandable. I personally dunno whether I prefer fantasy/scifi or scifi/fantasy (kinda leaning towards former over latter, I do prefer "Tolkien fantasy but everyone has hi tech and ais are resl" over Star Wars lmso) but I do enjoy the whole "fantasy is reveaked to be as scifi" thing Bionicle had going on for it (the series prob kickstarted my love for that trope) and as such the genre shift doesnt bother me AS much..I dont think it was that big shift or at least, that the shift came much earlier than ppl think. That being said, I can sympathize with people who miss the early years. The first three years were something special, and while I prefer the later arcs personally, I understand why the shift in the worldbuilding bothered people.
For me, my main issues with Gregs statements come from how I engage with media although from a different angle than prefering fantasy/scifi over scifi/fantasy. I am someone who loves deep dissections into character psyches as well as worldbuilding. Gregs a writer, who while not OPPOSED to those things, clearly writes story first and foremost. As such, many times he has been asked about character mentalities (and to s lesser extent lore/worldbuilding), hes like "if it didnt matter to the story I was writing I didnt think about it/care about it". And while I think its a good mindset to have as a writer, as someone who loves dissecting into character psyches and going knee deep into my faves its disheartening to hear. So its disagreeong with the way he sees stories but from s different angle.
Being excited and nervous about founders panel because on one hand
I’m super hyped what they will say and what stuf we will get revealed (as well as if we will get the truth about the Norik and Iruini set fiasco)
On other hand, I’m scared that the staff (esp Greg) will say something I will get pissed off at since. God Greg seems like a cool dude but sometimes he just says things I can’t agree with ya know.

“am i autistic?” a step by step guide
so there are some resources out there about learning about autism and trying to determine if you’re autistic, but i figured some folks would appreciate a nice neat step by step guide. this is intended to be used by adults, but older children can certainly follow these steps as well and get something out of it
first off, hello! dont be afraid! whether or not you determine you’re autistic at the end of this, it’s always great to learn more about yourself! try not to think of this as a serious thing. what you determine isn’t going to change anything about yourself, just give you a new perspective. whatever changes is up to you
before you start, open a new word document. you can title it 'autism tests’ or something cheesy like ‘my autism journey’. you’ll use this to keep record of things as you follow the steps
**allistics feel free to try it out and signal boost!**
step one: quizzes!!
who doesn’t love a good quiz? we’re starting with quizzes because diagnostic criterion can be scary and confusing. try not to think too long about these questions, go with your first instinct. don’t second guess yourself. if you’re having trouble answering them yourself, take them with a person who knows you well
A. short quiz - 50 short questions. takes 10-20 minutes to complete (warning in the results section for ableist language like ‘suffers from’ and ‘impairments’. just pay attention to the number)
did you get a 30 or up? did you get a number lower than that but feel like you want to keep going? write it down in your word document, and lets go on to the next quiz
B. long quiz - 124 questions. takes 30 minutes to an hour to complete. it says ‘aspie’ but this is a good tool for autism in general
you’ll get two scores, an aspie score, and a neurotypical score. go ahead and write these down. this test is a pretty good indicator, so pay attention to what it says before you decide if you want to continue
step two: the criteria
okay, so you’ve taken the quizzes. you probably have some prior knowledge, but you might be asking yourself, what IS autism, exactly? what does it entail? we’re gonna go ahead and take a look at some of the criteria of what autism is, and what autistic traits are, so we can get a fuller picture
A. asan’s about autism page - here’s a very simple overview of some autistic traits. it has seven points. does this sound like you? copy the headers into your document, and see if you can come up with one example of how each one fits you. if you cant think of one, ask yourself if it fit when you were younger but doesn’t anymore (you might want to ask your parents or childhood caregivers if these fit you as a child).
still want to keep going? lets get a little more detailed
B. revised autism criteria - okay so this one has some more heft to it, it goes into a lot of detail, but dont let that frighten you! just take it one step at a time. like last time, copy the headers into your document. for each point you relate to, copy that into your doc underneath it. can you think of specific examples where these criteria applied to you? if you can think of ways you relate that aren’t listed on this page, go ahead and write those down under the appropriate headers (in parentheses so you know those are what you added)
C. if you’re feeling like these criteria apply to you, go ahead and take a peek at the dsm v criteria for autism. if you’re in the us, this is what your diagnostician will be using if you choose to pursue a diagnosis. pretty much all these points are covered by the revised criteria above, so dont feel like you have to put any of this in your document if you dont want to
D. still not sure? if some of this feels like it applies to you, but it doesnt fit quite right, you might relate more to what’s called ‘atypical autism’. it’s still autism, but it manifests in a different way than what is more stereotypical. this is more common in people assigned female at birth, but can apply to any gender. go ahead and check it out here. if you find these things fit, do like you did before and copy and paste it into your document [edit] link is broken please see bottom of post!
keep in mind that many allistic (non-autistic) traits can be learned, so you have to look at all these things as how they can apply to you in childhood as well. while autistic people can learn things such as allistic body language, and allistic social skills, the key here is that they were learned. it doesn’t come naturally. autistic people may be very good at these things, but it will always feel like something of a performance, and can be very draining cognitively
step three: review
okay, so we’ve done our quizzes, and we’ve reviewed the criteria. you should have a pretty good overview of what autism is at this point, and how you might relate to it. go ahead and take a look at your document. how long is it? how many things did you copy down?
if you copied down a small amount of things: you’re probably not autistic. but you’ve now learned some more about autism, and some more about yourself! congratulations!
if you copied down a medium amount: you might be autistic. before you continue, go ahead and check out some conditions that we call ‘austim cousins’. these are neurodivergencies that have overlapping traits with autism. take a look at adult adhd, ocd, and schizophrenia (the negative symptoms of schizophrenia overlap with many autistic traits). do you feel that one of these might fit you better? if not, go ahead and continue to step four
if you copied down a large amount: you’re probably autistic! go ahead and continue to step four
step four: exploring a diagnosis
so, you think you might be autistic. what to do now? the first thing to do would be to continue researching on your own any points of confusion you had. if you have specific questions, a good place to ask is the ask an autistic blog. they also have a resources page with links to pages that deal with specific autism traits, like echolalia, burnout, and meltdowns
after you’ve researched to your satisfaction, the next step would be a diagnosis. you have two options here: self diagnosis or a professional diagnosis
self diagnosis means that you approach things with the understanding that you are autistic, and you are free to immerse yourself in the autistic community if you so choose. professional diagnosis means that this understanding of yourself is confirmed by a professional such as a qualified therapist, doctor, or diagnostician
what are the pros and cons of a professional diagnosis?
pros: an official label, if you like those. accommodations in school or in the workplace. the chance to pursue ssi, if you are unable to work due to autism
cons: finding someone to diagnose you as an adult can be difficult, especially if you are a woman or identify more with atypical autism. there is the possibility of a misdiagnosis. it is not covered by insurance and can be expensive. there is a stigma attached to the diagnosis. if you wanted to go into the us army, you would not be able to with a professional diagnosis. possible discrimination in child custody battles
no one can decide for you which is the best path, so take some time to think about it. if you decide you are happy self diagnosing, then congratulations! this part of the journey is over, and you can move freely into your life as a newly realized autistic person. know that even without a professional diagnosis, you are still autistic, and no one can take that away from you. you can go ahead and skip to the end
if you’ve decided to pursue a professional diagnosis, here are the next steps you can take:
A. if you are currently seeing a trusted therapist, ask them for a recommendation for a local diagnostician. they might know someone in the area who has experience diagnosing adults, if they cannot do it themselves. if you’re not seeing a therapist, hit up google and search ‘adult autism diagnosis’ + your city name
B. have you or someone you trust make some calls to local diagnosticians. ask them how much experience they have diagnosing adults, if they have experience diagnosing women (if this applies to you), what their fees are, and exactly what their process is
C. make an appointment! this can be scary, but i promise it doesn’t have to be
D. at the appointment (which may be one day or broken up into several days), you will be interviewed about your experiences and childhood, and asked to fill out paperwork (this will be similar to the quizzes you did earlier). there will be several games you will play, like memory games and puzzles. you can choose to share your document with the diagnostician. another appointment will be made where you get the results
step 5: your new life
you’ve made it! you now know that you’re autistic, and a new part of your life is beginning. there is a lot of joy to discover now that you’ve realized this about yourself. you can find a community, relearn old stims, and understand and accept behavior that may have confused you before. the biggest part of this new life is acceptance. there is nothing bad or broken about you, you are just autistic, and that’s okay! go ahead and reopen that document, and put a big ol smiley face at the end, because you did it! you know more about yourself, and you can now connect with the world in a new way. welcome to the autistic community :) we’re glad to have you
[edit] thank you rowan for letting me know the link was broken and saving this info for me!

Dresses comfortably due to sensory issues and practicality
Will not spend much time on grooming and hair. Hairstyles usually have to be ‘wash and wear’. Can be quite happy not grooming at all at times.
Eccentric personality; may be reflected in appearance

Usually a little more expressive in face and gesture than some other Autistic people
Enjoys reading and films as a retreat, often scifi, fantasy, children’s, can have favourites which are a refuge
Usually happiest at home or in other controlled environment.
Intellectual / Giftedness / Education / Vocation

May have a savant skill or strong talent(s)
May have a strong interest in computers, games, science, graphic design, inventing, things of a technological and visual nature. More verbal thinkers may gravitate to writing, languages, cultural studies, psychology

Obsessions (passions / special interests) are not necessarily unusual

Emotionally immature and emotionally sensitive
More open to talk about feelings and emotional issues than people with typical autism
Strong sensory issues - sounds, sights, smells, touch, and prone to overload. (May not have taste/food texture issues.)

Ive literally watched it amd have seen 1. Rick say he wants to hit on a 9 year old 2. A school teacher having a sexual fantasy w his underage student, 3. Rick habing a dream where IRL he started griping his teacher with the line 'im not causing this im just enjoying it' which is literally grooming. Oh and the pilot episode had the proto-rick making proto-morty give him.a blow job. And the creator has literally made 'jokes' about how he wants to rape infants. Literally just Google it.
"Like im not trying to be rude but even googling "rick and morty pedophilia" brings up other people who are like "this show is excessive" and KIDS WATCH THIS, the writers know kids watch it even if they aren't 'supposed to' and again, characters literally try to groom Morty multiple times which helps ppl groom kids IRL . Like. I'm not just shouting randomly it's an actual thing. This show is gross & none of the writers should ever be allowed around children, imo."
Alrighty, so dan harmon, one of the creators, made a fucked up piece of content on 2009 and got rid of it. If you read the articles beyond the headlines you should understand the context. It resurfaced in 2018 along with the james gunn stuff. Both people are ashamed and regretful and I havent seen anything about it since. Again, human beings can and do change and learn.
I had like 5 more paragraphs and they're gone and I'm not in the mood to rewrite them. So here's the rundown
Saying a show cant have adult content bc kids might see it makes no sense and its literally on adult swim.
Taking the subject matter of a tv show that has a team of people working on it and pinning that ideology onto 1 person isnt chill
No matter the media platform, someone writing a story does not inherently mean they believe in what the characters do or say.
Rick is a bad person and does bad things. The show doesnt try to make him seem like a good person. In fact it goes out of it's way to show his flaws and that he rarely has positive character development vs the family.
Grooming morty. I mean yeah, and again, it's not portrayed as a good thing. It's about rick doing what he wants and he needs morty for that. Theres an episode about why rick keeps morty around.
That said, I honest to God dont think someone who has to capacity/want/whatever to groom people irl would be taking tips from a scifi cartoon with aliens and portal guns.
People are allowed to have dark humor that you might find offensive. I joke about suicide as a coping mechanism. Lots of people don't like that.
It's also worth noting when something is supposed to be just a joke, or is commentary about something. Which happens a lot.
If you seriously feel that there are valid points to be made about dan harmon and justin roiland, then make a post and show people. That's how things get noticed. Not just saying a guy made a sick joke and works on a show you find morally offensive so therefore hes probably a pedophile.
In conclusion, if you think people are in danger, make a serious post that isnt just aimed at getting people to hate the show. Do research, think critically, and make strong arguments. That's how you "make noise"
#why do i bother tho lol#alkost certain this is bait oops#rick and morty#i dont like tumblr sometimes
