Essence Description:

"Life's full of regrets. One of them, oftentimes, is not living it to the fullest."

Envoys of Passing follows the story of Second Chance, a young girl who (after getting into an argument with her older siblings) gets lost inside her local train station, boards a random train, and falls asleep. When she comes back to, she realized she isn't on her train anymore, but rather a train of myth. The Envoy of Passing is a train filled with the recently deceased, traveling on the train to whatever comes after. A train that has mistaken Second Chance for one of its own. But it's okay, because Death has given her... a second chance.

This essence deals with themes of death, depression, and other sensitive topics. Every envoy has their own stories about their deaths, which I will place underneath the cut, if you'd like to know.

This essence was inspired by a game called What Comes After. If you like simple, story-driven games and have roughly 5 to 6 dollars to spare, I would highly recommend it! It's a short experience [I got it done in about 3 or so hours, but I had to charge my switch mid-game] but it's a nice and heartfelt game. It also takes elements from an area of ToD's overworld, called the Souls Shore.

Envoy smiled at the novelist, far from friendly, but a smile nonetheless.

"I certainly would hope by now you would know the script as well as you do your “wish.” Don’t believe your ears or eyes, my dear Orfeo. The truth can only be revealed by the one who refuses to fall into the depths of the lightless border. I’m sure you understand, yes?"

"What I think about Miss Envoy? I don’t have much of an opinion on her. She’s.. sort of my mother and uh.. treats me well, all things considered. She’s always doing this weird thing where she takes her hand and rubs my head with it. I don’t know why but.. it feels nice."

"Little Eurydice? My friend, you have to understand. This play cannot start without it’s opening act. The death of the girl is a necessity, she knows her role. As for once the game begins, her fate lies within the hands of our dear Orfeo."

How did you end up with all of these people in your play in the first place

"It was simple, really. Some are quite willing to do anything to live out their ideal lives. I offered such in exchange for taking part in my play. Win my game, and they can continue on with their sweet dreams for as long as they wish."

“… Do these clocks even work properly? Everytime— I awake, only a minute has passed and I’m late yet again. I don’t even have a novel to work on that keeps me up at the night.. only ‘this’. If I won this game, would it end as well?”
