#03 Zero Hour Talks
part 1
“See they’re trying to make me jealous—which isn’t working—I mean, it makes sense. Why else would they suddenly pretend to be in a relationship with some rookie?”
Medic stared at the Villain with a deadpan expression, their arms crossed in front of their stomach with legs crossed under the glass table. The quiet atmosphere of the local diner in the middle of the night only further intensified the Medic’s desire to drop down on the hard surface and fall asleep. “...Get a job,” they replied, an apathetic tone in their voice as they rubbed their temples.
“This is my job,” the Villain, in contrast, was functioning perfectly fine. Their fingers passively tapping the table in an even rhythm. Sipping the sweet cranberry slushy with gleaming eyes as if they were waiting for validation. The Medic wishes they were dead.
“Get a real job,” Medic grabbed the plastic cup from their hands, grumbling with irritation. They considered throwing the drink in their face but refrained knowing they would probably get kicked out.
Villain narrowed their eyes and scoffed, “I’m just saying, I know exactly what they’re doing and I won’t fall for it,” they smirked. Confident in their own words as if they weren’t completely on the verge of snapping a few days ago. Not from bitterness after seeing their Hero’s face all over the news along with that halfwit of a rookie, it was about a completely unrelated matter.
“I really don’t care,” Medic groaned. The Villain did not listen and took it as a sign to continue.
“Heroes just think they’re better than everyone, especially that jerk. They think their smile can fool the city but they can’t fool me.”
“Oh my God.”
Medic ran their hands through their hair, rolling their eyes and slumping in agony. There was nothing they desired less than listening to the Villain’s denial and refusal to even have a love life. If this was what hell was like, they would have to start praying.
The dense fool did not seem to pick up on their suffering though. Villain’s gaze flickered to the large digital billboard across the street. Rotating between various shots of the greatest heroes of the city, and the new upcoming stars. They chuckled dryly, waiting for their hero to show up. “They won’t be able to keep up that facade for long, once the Hero realizes the rookie is another useless wannabe they’ll come crawling back, craving the excitement.” Medic did not miss the way their gaze softened.
They straightened themselves, resting their chin on their knuckles with furrowed brows. Following Villain’s gaze just as their obsession showed up. The grinning hero conversed with the reporters, standing in close proximity with their partner. Well supposed partner at least, there are a few who doubt the nature of their relationship, and their sibling happens to be one of them. “How do you even know they’re just pretending?” They questioned, the two seemed close, comfortable even. It wasn’t hard to see why the dating rumors were easy to spread.
Villain glared at them in response, scoffing in annoyance as if they had asked a stupid question. “Because they are, obviously. Get it together, I thought you were the smart one,” they sneered. Medic’s eye twitched slightly in response, sighing as an attempt to compose themselves. A punch would be thrown, but it would occur after they were outside.
“...Why do you think it’s fake?” They said, slowly. Rewording their initial question as they realized the Villain was too far gone now.
The other smirked smugly, seriously it’s like they were asking to get punched. They pointed at the screen, their eyes focused as if they were inspecting every little detail from a five minute clip. “Just look at them. Their smile doesn’t touch their eyes, their pupils are wandering all over the place and their fingers are barely holding on to that rookie. Contrary to their statements, they don’t even live together, I checked and everything.”
“You what now?”
Villain brushed them off, pulling out their phone and opening a news article from the city’s media. “Anyway, that Valentine’s interview was totally scripted, this anonymous user from the comments claimed that they work for the agency and they admitted the two were just doing it for the marketing.” Medic squinted their eyes and leaned closer to their screen, reading the comment.
“This user also said ‘Supers were created by a secret society to kill the lizards that live underground.’” They pointed out with an unimpressed look.
“Well you never know,” Villain shrugged in response.
Medic had to lean back into their seat, slowly registering their entire interaction just now. Hands resting at their temples again as they met the Villain’s gaze with genuine pity. They considered slapping them to return them to their senses, but they seemed like a lost cause. “...You know it gets to a point where it’s just sad.”
“What? I made perfectly rational points,” Villain didn’t understand what part wasn’t clear enough. It was pretty straight forward, yet no one seemed to understand. They even consulted their Henchman earlier and they were left speechless before turning in their request to take a vacation.
The billboard keeps switching between clips of the recent conflicts of the heroes before it landed on the most recent interview of the Hero—no, the Villain’s Hero. Villain’s eyes immediately turned to them, a faint hint of a smile threatening to show on their lips.
No words could describe how baffled Medic was. Sure they had joked about them having feelings for the hero but they didn’t realize it would lead to the Villain becoming so pathetic, and most of all how they ended up being forced to listen to their thoughts. They scrunched their nose in judgement. A faint sense of hollowness filled their chest, unease creeped in.
“Why do you care so much?”
Villain sneered in defense, “I do not care. Caring is my least favorite thing to do.”
“Right,” Medic tilted their head.
“Right.”
An unpleasant silence filled the diner. The two were staring at each other, a stalemate of sorts.
“So you’re not going to crash the Hero’s date tomorrow?” Medic spoke up again, leaning forward now as they raised a brow in apparent confusion. Their crossed arms resting on top of the table.
“No, I’m still doing that,” Villain answered, reaching out to grab their unfinished slushy. They sipped the drink with an annoying sound that made the Medic wince before blinking slowly and coming to the conclusion that they were, simply put, hopeless.
“...Whatever,” they exhaled a sharp breath. I give up the Medic thought to themselves.
The other stretched their legs on top of the table, already chuckling out of amusement. They couldn’t wait to see the look on Hero’s face, it would be a moment worth framing. “It’s part of my duties as their greatest enemy.”
Medic was not amused, they took one look at the Villain and sighed again. They wondered if the Villain realized they were fooling themselves, that the line between love and hate often overlapped. Denial can only exist for so long, and most of all—the consequences of finally removing the walls in their heart. “One day you will realize that you were a fucking idiot and when that happens I will laugh.” And maybe, I’ll stop worrying about you after you accept that loving someone isn’t the end of the world. The rest of the words were stuck in their throat.
Villains and Heroes, a cat and mouse game for the people. Even so, there was always a comforting intimacy with someone who knows you inside and out, constantly on their tail, a never ending chase. That was how they were raised, at least. So perhaps it was only a matter of time before Villain gained such affections.
Villain did not see the concern faintly grazing Medic’s expression, scrunching their brows in irritation. “Who’s side are you on?”
“The one not stalking their crush,” Medic said under their breath.
“What?”
“I said clearly yours,” Medic averted their gaze, hiding the pity in their eyes.

" I'll be shining wherever you are. "
📺⭐🟥⭕ They did it. He really had his doubts but... somehow that big hearted dinosaur came through. It looks like TV World is back on air! Now broadcasting from a new house! And its a music lover, too, he hears. His darling sea-star might just be getting a new music video! That's when he came looking for her-- at first, running as fast as he could but then... slowing down.
Should he... really do this to her? That TV is him-- he goes where it goes-- but, her? She... could stay, if she wanted. Eject the tape, settle here. Its a nice town... swell band... never having to worry about turning to stone again... always new faces coming in and out. The Lightners would even see her all the time. After some thought, he still came to give the good news to her, happy, excited about the new opportunity, but... something was clearly on his mind. She'll be shining wherever he is she tells him. Something in him wells up. Every inch of him wanted to just take it. Take the deal. Don't give them an out they're not asking for! But his smile falters with a wince. Suddenly, he took their hands in his and leans in closer. He often took a smaller form in Castle Town, and right now he wanted to be on equal footing with them.
" Listen, Layla. You mean... SO much to me. I- I can't bare the thought of you forming any resentments, so-- I just want you to know I understand if... if you don't want to be yanked around. " He's in pain just saying all this. He's in love with her. And no one's ever gotten away from him without claw marks on them-- but its different this time! He's trying to do the right thing. Trying to spare them reliving the heartache they talked so much about. Trying to... save her from watching reruns. " I mean it! Show business-- its hard on the heart! One moment your audience adores you, then they're onto something new... This life isn't for everyone! So... " His screen turns off, but he leans in so close and speaks with an aching sincerity. " I really... want you to be sure. "
With that, he raises a hand and summons her contract. It looks like he's... put little glittery star stickers on it since they last saw it? " The only way out of one of my contracts is to not be severed but... released. Say the word and I'll... let you go. "
He needs them to know he's not making them do this. If not for her sake then his own conscious. 'But say you'll be there' something in him screams. 'Even if you have other options, say you'll be there.'
#[[ i dont know what possessed me to write all this---#due to assorted dash discussions i've been having Thoughts !!! dskhgdskghshg ]]#⭐ [ live on air! ] → i.c.#⭐ [ audience q&a! ] → inbox.#starfaite#⭐ [ not my forever home. ] → castle town verse.

I'm really stoked to be writing again, but my compulsion to make a new document every time I start over on a scene is perhaps getting a bit out of hand
I don't know when I'll finish up a new chapter. The next 5 are very closely intertwined, ramping up to the end of act 2 or whatever you wanna call it, and I've scrapped or radically changed so many things since the last time I worked on them, I'm a bit paranoid I'll make plotholes for myself if I don't finish re-drafting all of them first.
I've been going quite fast, though. Having a good time ruining Suzuki Shou's life like usual
#“assorted thoughts please sort them”#as if that's ever going to happen#also the versioning is off from what's on AO3 because some chapters have been split in two#22.a = 24#the end of the world as you know it#my writing

I love making up words!! Sometimes when you're writing, there just isn't a word that fits right, or an obvious compound word that works perfect, and just because the squiggly red line shows up doesn't mean its wrong!! Go out and make new words!!

I don't think it's a thing, or at least not as pervasive of a thing as previous iterations of it, but it seems like True Crime Podcasts never really got the full Moral Panic(TM) treatment that other dark/lurid media got in their times.
Like comics were put under the yoke of The CCA, which effectively killed the crime (true or otherwise) genre, because it was believed to be a corrupting force.
Rock music, TTRPGs, and video games got an extra dose of Satanic Influence flavour in their panics, without even necessarily being all that lurid anyway, but especially with HUGE variability in tone and style between works in the same medium - Like KISS and others leaned into the "Ah! We're so strange and scary!" vibe. And several rockers intentionally pushed the boundaries of "acceptable" sexuality and expression for the times, sure. And much of the demonization of rock is rooted in racism because it was developed from African-American music styles (with certain genres, where the influence, and popularity with Black people was more obvious, got hit especially hard because of this). But like, the freaking Beatles were seen as potentially "dangerous" and "unwholesome" (the scandal of it all!) even before they leaned fully into New Age and other general weirdness that I could see as being especially off-putting to the kinds of people that go on these moral crusades.
Violence and any sort of sexual expression/depiction in movies and TV was blamed for corrupting the nation, especially the youth - and to some extent still is. Doubly so for video games.
Computers, the internet, and social media are still seen as direct pipelines of filth into vulnerable minds.
Heck, even Novels were seen as a craze that would drive the women and youths towards inappropriate behaviours, back when they first started being published - Too easy to print and distribute (way more possible for people with ill morals to publish material!), too conviently accessible by anyone - Not needing as careful of handling or storage, and much less likely to get damaged being carried around than previous printing methods; they'd distract from duties and anything could be published in those books, and they'd be easy enough to conceal from disapproving guardians due to how compact they could be
But I can't say that I've really seen much, if any real targeting of True Crime Podcasts with these sorts of accusations in any sort of very visible way. Not even from the usual moral crusader suspects (though I'm sure some of them no doubt are out there railing against the podcasts, because that outrage against everything is what sustains certain kinds of fundamentalists), and certainly not in the mainstream media - The most I think I've seen is a few mild, often self-deprecating, jokes, said with genuine fondness, in a few more trope-savvy works here and there.
And that's despite the presence of many of the crusaders' favourite punching bag traits:
- Lurid subject matter
- Often sensationalized presentation
- New form of media
- Easily consumable by the masses
- Incredibly popular, especially paired with a rapid rise in popularity
- Especially popular among women (who, as we know from previous panics, clearly have such delicate sensibilities and fragile, malleable minds that they absolutely, positively cannot be trusted to make their own decisions about media consumption. CLEARLY.).
I would make a note about it definitely being popular with young women, which it is, sure. But honestly, I'm reasonably certain it's not especially more popular with them than with older audiences. The podcast format specifically may not necessarily be the favourite medium for a older potential audience member, especially compared to a younger potential audience member, but there's plenty of people middle aged and older that happily listen to podcasts. However there is an absolute glut of true crime shows on TV, often marketed towards women. The Investigation Discovery spin-off channel is pretty much all true-crime shows and documentaries (with maybe some Based on a True Story- style dramatizations thrown in for good measure). And even though it's not specifically, explicitly a women-focused channel in the same way, say the Hallmark Channel or Lifetime are, much of their shows formatting and much of the marketing material definitely leans toward targeting and retaining women specifically as an audience. I can remember my grandma contentedly watching the channel all day long. And let's not forget the archetypical "Lifetime Movie" is generally taken to mean a True Crime "It Could Happen to You"-cautionary tale-dramatization.
Heck, even the collection of books inherited by grandma when her mother passed away included a large amount of non-fiction books about "Tracking The Murders of [such-and-such] County" and suchlike. So, no, I don't believe the True Crime fascination is exclusively a young person phenomenon. It's been around in some form for quite a while and maintains its appeal across age demographics.
So, what gives, moral crusaders? Where's your campaigns declaring True Crime Podcasts a danger to society? Where's your press tours? Why don't you have politicians taking the floor in meetings/council/congress/etc., to declare this media to be the scourge of the nation and the latest existential threat to Western Society? Won't SOMEBODY think of the children?!?!
I know we as a society aren't all stuck watching the same news/media sources anymore, and in many ways we're not as beholden to the control/influence of the, often (but not exclusively) Evangelical, Christian institutions that used to really push this stuff as an issue to the forefront of public discourse, but I can't believe that they'd've just completely gone away and stopped trying to force everyone else to adhere to their sense of indignation and live under their moral code.
It's almost as though they're not stirring up as much outrage about this because they found something else they think is a bigger problem and/or stands a better chance of catching on with mainstream audiences.
And... oh.
Oh.
Oh no.
Well.
Shit.
I started writing this ramble upstairs, watching TV with my parents. They've been watching that "Based on a True Story" show. And that's what got me thinking about the pop-cultural niche True Crime Podcasts have found themselves in, and reactions to them compared to reactions to other forms of media that have discussed/depicted violent crimes and other controversial subject matter in the past and present (See also: Only Murders in The Building).
This was supposed to be an all-"Haha, isn't it kinda silly how things are?" little quip about how "Outrage ain't want it used to be". From my very privileged white dude point of view. But I think I stumbled into something here. Something that I might not even be the best person to talk about. So I won't go too in-depth on subjects I'm very much out of my depth on, but, I do kinda wanna get to my conclusion.
So uh...
Yeah, okay.
The Moral Crusaders are busy with other topics.
They've found bigger fish to fry, so to speak.
They're out there railing against favourable and even neutral depictions of queerness in media, especially children's media.
They're out there railing against social justice, racial equity, historical rectification, truth and reconciliation.
They're out there railing against science and education and instilling earnest curiosity in people.
Against secularization, diversity, and inclusivity.
Against correction of their own misinformation and indoctrination.
They put it all under one banner these days, and rail against it all as though it were a conspiracy to deliberately supplant them.
They're too busy crusading against "Wokeness" - Their idea of what that means, anyway.
I don't think it's the only reason there's not a big crusade against True Crime Podcasts, as I've said above, Christian morality has reduced official and unofficial influence in so-called Western society than it did in times past. And there's much better access to resources for getting different information and opinions on a subject than the people immediately around you and whatever the handful of news channels and papers you have access to tell you. That is to say, sources that require very little effort on one's own part. It's a heck of a lot easier to google something or check wikipedia than it would have been to have to trek down to the library and ask if they have any books or journals or magazine or... any sort of information about a subject.
And it's not like their boogeyman of "wokeness" isn't anything new for them to crusade against. They've always complained about it in some form or another - Who could forget the outrage against children's media back in the day?:
"Is Bugs Bunny gay?" "Is Spongebob gay?" "Is Tinky-Winky gay?"; "This book discusses subjects that should only be talked about between a mother and her daughter! It's disgusting!"; "I couldn't let my kids watch anything with magic in it - That's the devil's work! That's why I don't trust these mainstream educational programs!"
In terms of more outrageous complaints about children's media.
That's not to mention complaints about other media - Those expressly intended for adults. Or complaints about progressive actions taken in society in-general. Some of these have typically appealed only to the most vocal of cranks - The kind of things complaining about depicting characters who do un-Christian things in works, or that students are being taught proper sexual education or that vaccination is mandatory for entry into institutions like public schools.
But there's plenty of complaints that don't garner immediate pushback from less-extreme conservatives or even so-called moderates: "Why is there so much diversity in casting these days? Why can't they just make their own shows?", "Why are they coming after that comedian for telling edgy jokes?", "Why are they pushing this global warming crap down our throats so much anyway?"
In "wokeness", they've found something that seems to not only unite everything under one banner, but resonate more strongly with some people than the old canards of "liberal" or "politically correct". Sure, there's always been people who have said those with the same contempt and venom that they use for the truly heinous things of the world. But in co-opting "woke" from the original meaning among Black people expressing solidarity with each other and encouraging others to to remain aware of the social and political issues that definitely, almost-always negatively, affected their lives, the moral crusaders have found something that strikes a nerve with a large swath of people who might otherwise have not agreed that several of their bugbears actually needed opposing. Now, there's a single enemy ideology that pervades all culture-war issues. It's all connected, you see. Something you thought was harmless? No! You see, that's just how they're going to infiltrate your mind! Your childrens' minds! Don't give them any ground at all!
Awareness of an issue was and still is basically the mildest thing to ask of someone else. As a call to action, "Stay Woke" is a pretty small request.
The crusaders make it out as though it's a battle-cry, a command - A decree that all aspects of all things must adhere to the most progressive, indeed, transgressive views, opinions and approaches on all subjects. That this is upending the previously established status quo just for the sake of upending it. And that this interpretation is the one adopted by all powerful entities in society - Government (especially including the education system), mainstream media, big businesses, etc. And that these entities have oppressive reasons in mind to force those beliefs on society. And that dissent against this woke "nonsense" is the objective truth in a world gone mad! It's an imperative to preserve your way of life!
And, uh. No.
Whatever world they're living in where that's actually happening is quite different from our reality, of course.
Honestly, though? It doesn't need to start out seeming like a big conspiracy - Even asking for honest awareness, in good faith, might be enough to infuriate non-crusaders. People don't often voluntarily to entertain the notion that things they do, things they've done, and things done in their name by others, that they continue to benefit from, are indeed "bad" actions.
Because that now feels like a personal attack against them. They're bad people for not pushing back against this. They must be considered complicit. How dare you think that of me!?!
And then, then the crusader-types just need to introduce the notion that this consideration being "demanded" of this otherwise passive group is the result of a slippery slope of this entire progressive, questioning mindset. Acknowledging any part of it means accepting all of the crusaders' hyperbolic claims about what that ideology actually means.
Through the magic of "Wokeness", it's all connected - It's all out to get you.
Where does it end? Didn't you see how they treated that one guy? Surely, he's no monster. If they can go after him for something so harmless, what's stopping them from coming after you next, for something that's probably even more innocuous?
Moral crusaders know the value of a good persecution complex.
It's not just asking you to be aware of how your presence in the world affects it. It's targeting you. Right?! That's surely the point of this is to find a guilty party and punish them! They're going to make you take the fall for this and directly suffer the punishment for it! You can't let that happen!
It's not even as explicit of a line of reasoning as this.
But either way, the moral panic is spreading and the crusaders are getting a bunch more people loudly on-board with their crusade.
They're banning books and calling for show cancellations under the whole banner of "woke ideology".
They're getting their press tours. Speaking with friendly talking-heads to puff themselves up, then going on with people unwilling to challenge their claims in the interest of fairness - And even if the commentators do push back, the crusaders will spin it as "the woke mainstream media trying to suppress our beliefs" and use that as a recruiting tool.
They're getting their politicians going on rants in city council meetings. During campaign rallies. In congressional/legislative sessions. In published opinion pieces.
In judicial rulings.
In enacted legislation.
The crusade continues. In many ways, it's as pervasive and successful as it's ever been.
It's not True Crime Podcasts that have been the subject of a moral panic this time around.
They must not be "woke" enough to bother with.
#ramblings and rantings#culture war#social issues#moral panics#long post#(Don't act so shocked - I gave my blog here that 'Assorted Rantings' title for a reason)#(so the occasional ramble/rant is to be expected right?)#Been in a real write-y mood lately for some reason#hopefully this scans reasonably coherently#this took way longer to write out than I thought it was going to#that first half was basically done#I was already to click 'post' and send it out into the world#but as I was asking that question in that paragraph the answer hit me#and I realized I couldn't avoid discussing the elephant I'd just spotted in the room#that's kind of why it feels at least a little like two separate posts tbh#this was largely off-the-cuff so I am happy to receive any corrections to my interpretation of things#or any hard evidence for or against my assertions

thoughts🤩incoherent but we ball
1. friendship.
it's important to note that at the beginning of the series, it's pretty clear that boston is at the top of his game, at least from the outside. he is one of the hottest men on campus, he can pull anyone he wants, and he has a group of friends that he spends his time with if he isn't hooking up. top rejecting him/going after mew was the beginning of the end of this version of boston, as we saw his downright icarian downfall in real time. the first element of friendship here is the connections he had w the original gang of himself, mew, chueam, and ray. their friendship, at least his to the trio, has always been shallow. they met in class and latched to each other bc that's what you do in uni, but aside from enjoying a night out and being queer, what did they actually have to tie them together? they have different families, morals, and opinions on pretty much everything. boston sleeps with top not bc he has any malicious intent toward mew, he does it bc he wants to, he can, and in his experience that means he will! it's why he is so baffled when the group is furious at him; why??? all he did was sleep w some guy who he knew first - and he didn't do it for the exclusive reason of being a dick, just purely for his own ego (which he can't see past).
but THAT! is the type of friendship boston has known for years. blackmailing, manipulating, together bc we kind of just fell into it. nick is the first person to crave boston's presence BECAUSE he sees exactly who he is. he sticks by boston when no one else does, he has seen nick's true commitment to him and that realisation of nick's care for boston endears him to boston when he has lost all else and is at his lowest. he reads the true friendship nick offers for something past platonic, which most of us have seen in our own lives im sure: being boyfriends is the natural answer to the connection he feels. he loves being w nick, the sex is fantastic, and nick is committed to him. but boston has never had a real friend. it's literally that arrested development scene where tony and gob say they have feelings for each other and then the narrator goes "the feeling was friendship, but neither man had experienced it before" LMAOOO u know?
2. another thing is that boston believes that this is what what nick has wanted all along and still wants. he's been begging from almost the beginning out loud and silently for boston to love him and want him only and boston has no reason not to believe nick would be THRILLED about the bf question. but he doesn't realise that while he has changed, so has nick. i think he sees more of the pain he caused nick when they were in the bathroom giving advice to atom, when nick says he has experienced the pain of one sided love and it sucks, and that probably seems like a recent example that nick does still feel the same way. they've both been thru a lot both together and separately, and really need to have a conversation like nick and dan had when nick said he's not in a place to be someone's boyfriend, so that nick can admit that he isn't sure he wants what he did before.
3. boston has gone from 0 to 100 as usual. he goes from constant casual hookups to deciding he wants to be exclusive with nick. he did mention wanting to possibly stop sleeping around as much in the pool a while back, but it's so hard to tell how much of that was nick and how much of it was jealousy that top wanted to be exclusive with mew. does boston actually want to have sex w one person only for however long, or does he want the certainty of a relationship w nick where they're still open to sex outside each other? (this post brought up the poly nickdanboston ending and i thought it was so great. for my piece it seems idk just odd writing that he would say to dan that he likes him, only to crush him in the finale by ending up exclusively with boston. i think dan and boston would both be incredible partners for nick in different ways and it would be so cool if they went down that road. however unlikely lol)
#just assorted thoughts that amount to nickboston friendship is endgame i dare say#idk if they will end up as monogamous boyfriends but time will tell ig idk#only friends#my writing#only friends analysis#if u can call it that lmao#ofts#only friends series#nickboston#bostonnick

i don't know why i'm so torn about this but. that amnesia fic i finally wrapped up? i've got like four different versions of the same memory loss premise sitting in my google docs folder, with different takes on how sherlock and/or john handle it, and i'm like "hey you know how i have these fics based on works by these two writers who are notoriously capable of writing only one show? i'm not sure it's acceptable for me to post multiple different takes on the same premise and essentially be writing the same thing over and over again." like @ me do you hear yourself.
#i've got one where sherlock opts for lying to john i.e. not admitting the memory loss#and another that's much like the posted one except done closer to how i would want that to go now. i.e. sherlock doesn't wholly run away.#hm. food for thought. not that they're ready to post right now. but.#also i say “notoriously” like they've got an audience of more than five people who will call them out on that dhdkdhdkfjfk#there's also the very significant portion of my writing folder that is 'assorted takes on the post-reichenbach situation.' what year is it.

Okay upside to retaking a class I failed with the same professor: I can keep my notes and hardly have to add anything. I failed not cuz I didn’t understand the material but because I didn’t have the motivation to do the work (dw not gonna happen again I hope). So anyway I still get to write during class haha

Rhythm 0, The Milgram Experiment and The Stanford Prison Experiment (and others) show how people will abuse their power and authority if given the chance without consequences, and that's so so scary imo.
#dragon's stupid thoughts#take a wild guess what I've been watching again#the stanford prison experiment is the scariest one imo#you separate a group of students. one side play as guards the others as prisoners#as a guard you're allowed to make any action it takes to get the prisoners to behave#this experiment was meant to go for two weeks but had to be cancelled after ''only'' six days cuz it's become too extreme#prisoners were going insane. got panic attacks. starting some sorta rebellion#the guards started to be more brutal and abusive. making the prisoners sleep on concrete or harming them with bats#even tho one source said they were encouraged by the scientists to go such extremes#rhythm 0 is also very scary. it was meant as some sorta art project. visitors of the art gallery had an assortment of different things like#roses. wool. food. pens but also knives and guns#one woman was then standing there for like 6 hours and had the visitors do anything they liked without any reaction or consequences#at first people were giving her roses or fed her but pretty soon people started to write on her. scratch and stab her with the knife#later they even tore her clothes off and planned on doing worse things#when the experiment was about to end and she showed reactions. the people who previously did some sorta bad things to her#all of a sudden felt bad. panicked and fled#some others went to her. wiped her tears away and hugged her#if this isn't messed up. i don't know what is

So I was just laying in bed and imagining the opening to a new fanfiction I want to write, and I told myself “The best way to go about this writing, at least in terms of exposition, is to imagine this as an animated movie, and write the script with incredibly details animation notes.”
At first, I told myself that was the most dumbass thing I’ve said so far, but then I stopped to think about it and thought, no; this fanfic is based on a comic book, a format that traditionally is reliant (and enhanced) by its use of visuals to convey a story. If I’m going to make a purely written work (and try to have all the same content and style of a visual comic book) then I’m gonna have to imagine what that book might look like, and work backward into the text that way.
