Astorin Miststep - “Don’t think I won’t limp over there to knock some manners into your head.”
Charr Revenant - cis man, he/him - gay and still single somehow
Astorin had a pretty standard childhood in the legions. Ash and proud growing up. His warband, the step warband, was always a bit of a ragtag group, taking in those that didn’t have elsewhere to turn and giving them a chance to show off what they were really made of. Astorin was always the unofficial leader, and then he was promoted to actual leader, following the devastating battle against Duke Barradin. Now acting as Legionnaire of the step warband, he helped it recover and regrow. During this time, he and his entire warband proved top tier time and again, and Astorin himself entered into a relationship with Yahuk. After a while, his name was well enough known that the Order of Whispers reached out, recruiting him. Astorin said his goodbyes and left his warband in the capable hands of a trusted friend, joining Whispers to try and do some good against the dragons. It wasn’t long before the pact was founded, and he eagerly joined.
Astorin served the Pact for a good run, joining shortly after it was founded. He was a good spy and an excellent soldier, always glad to lend a hand and defend those who needed it. When the Summit in the Grove was announced, he was quick to volunteer to serve as a guard. And when the mordrem attacked, he was the first one to leap to action, defending citizens and guests alike with all he had. He fought bravely and saved many lives, and he went down in the battle.
Even the medics who attended to Astorin cannot say for certain whether he died or not. He certainly seemed to, and it made the fact that he recovered even more miraculous. Astorin didn’t come back unchanged, though. Open awakening, he had strange new powers, magic he had not had before as a daredevil. As he healed and recovered, Astorin took his time to explore and practice with this new magic, meeting great legends in his Dreams, including Glint herself. He was never one to sit idle, so he trained as much as he safely could. While he healed, though, word came back of the Pact Fleet’s crash into the jungle. The Dragon had felled every airship, and now the entire army was trapped. Astorin, still very much in the process of healing, left then and there to help.
He saved many lives and brought much needed help to the Maguuma, but at the cost of never quite healing right. Following the death of Mordremoth, Astorin retired from field work, and from the Pact as a whole. He lives in a small house of his own on the outskirts of Ascalon. During the events following the Maguuma campaign, he was enlisted to babysit various members of Destiny’s Edge, helping them sort out their personal problems and keeping them out of trouble for a while on behalf of Aqun and Laighe (who belong to @mystery-salad). Zojja is the only one who still currently lives with him, though the two have become close friends over the years. He still keeps in touch with his old warband as well, and on days when his leg isn’t hurting so much and he doesn’t walk with too pronounced of a limp, he’ll visit the Black Citadel to help with training cubs or to talk with soldiers recovering from permanent injuries.
---
Astorin’s injuries from the Summit, worsened during his Maguuma trek, left him with chronic pain and a permanent limp. He’s still a skilled fighter, utilizing his revenant abilities to navigate the battle field rather than his feet. Most days, he prefers to stay at home and learn new skills and hobbies instead though. The Pact and his old warband make sure he’s well set up, so he doesn’t have to work, but that doesn’t stop him from helping out and taking on some of the Pact’s paperwork when it gets overwhelming for the folks still working there. Every day living with Zojja is an adventure in itself, with all of the “accessibility upgrades“ she’s made to the place. There have been a few explosions. But it’s fine. Everyone important walked away, after all.
(end notes: as mentioned in oriphio’s post, i made astorin on the same day as him and variott. I was soon to discover that as much as I was super interested in charr lore and history and culture, I hated their run cycles and I was so bad at revenant as a class lmao. Also his last name in game is actually fadefoot im just too cheap to get a name change contract uwu.
Astorin actually plays a major part in an alternate universe @mystery-salad and I have, where their Taomesin is commander. Astorin covers all the paperwork and other desk work for Tao in that universe, covering the important parts of the pact that they can’t and weren’t ever trained to handle. He and Rhosill end up as a “thing” in that universe and its cute~ just two tired old men~)

Wrelia loves sweets and bakes all the time with her wife, Embrant, whenever she's home. The two are both decently good bakers, but they also tend to have flour fights while baking and make an absolute mess everywhere, then both just laugh really hard at how cute the other is coated in flour. They also tend to eat half the batter or dough raw while waiting for the other half to bake and make themselves sick. While Wrelia is away and busy with the newest plot, Embrant has pulled a bunch of wardens together and is sending her care packages of homemade cookies weekly
Variott stress bakes, and as head of the Pact scouts, she's stressed a lot. She's kind of a master baker at this point, and her specialty is muffins. She always bakes in huge batches and brings what she made in to share with everyone. Her scouts always grab a few extra along for lunch when leaving for missons
Astorin is a decently good cook when it comes to simple stuff, but he can't bake for the life of him. He's been trying to branch out and learn, and it's just been disaster after disaster. So many fires. So many broken teeth. He just wants to learn to make some bread. He isn't giving up though! Even if his fur may be permanently stained white from all the spilled flour by the end of this
I’ve been making cookies literally all night so…who’s got some fun cooking/baking headcanons about their characters? What’s their favorite things to make? Have they ever made a huge mess in the kitchen and looked straight up adorable covered in flour? Caused some kind of kitchen disaster?

31, 33, and 51 for Io, Variott, and Astorin
31. What’s their current main conflict?
Io: Find a way to stop Kralkatorrik, like most commanders out there. She’s also dealing with a lot of stress, and her constant internal struggle of if she’s really the right person for this job, and is she really mature enough and capable enough to be trusted.
Variott: She’s battling with her job, her crush on Laighe who’s technically her boss, and her desire to help everyone as well as she can.
Astorin: In main canon, he’s currently just a retired charr keeping an eye on Zojja and Rytlock, and trying to get a boyfriend. All simple and easy. Au where Taomesin is commander is far more interesting. There, he works desk and does literally any and all paperwork for Tao. With Rhosill, who he’s struggling to come to terms with his feelngs for, gone for who knows how long (a while), the onus of keeping Tao alive now falls to him. Astorin walks with a severe limp, and has been convinced along with the rest of the Pact that he’s useless since he can no longer do field work. Despite that, he’s currently one of the highest ranked people in the Pact, and is overworked and very stressed. He cannot keep up with Tao to keep them safe and mentally steady.
33. How have they changed over time?
Io: As a person, she’s matured a lot over her life, and more recently has really stepped up and fulfilled the role of commander incredibly well. As a character, she hasn’t been around too long, but she started as a self insert and is very much not that at all now. She was quick to become her own character, separate from me, and went on to become my canon commander.
Variott: Variott is one of my oldest gw2 characters, and she has changed so so much. What has not changed is the fact that she’s nonbinary, though she went from genderfluid to bigender. She used to be a much more typical asura, before I started playing through the story on her, realized I didn’t like how asuran society could be, and decided to play that up in her character. As her own person, she’s grown to really love herself and the things she can do, even if they aren’t typical asuran skills.
Astorin: As a character, he’s gotten a bit older, but not much. As a person, the biggest change he went to was becoming disabled during HoT and having to change his life style and fighting style to handle that. And he has, and he is very happy, and his life is going well, though he does wish he had someone to share it with.
51. What were some inspirations for your character (people, movies, games)?
Io: Iovara is based around a lot of hobbies I wish I had but don’t. She’s also based around the idea of a very young commander, but one that isn’t a sylvari. She’s based a lot on my personal issues and struggles, and she somehow took on a life of her own from there.
Variott: The mom friend of every dnd party who has the map and keeps an eye on it, and always has snacks, and knows how to comfort you when you’re down. But pocket sized. Someone who has skills that aren’t valued by the society they’re raised in who finds their place somewhere else.
Astorin: Struggles with health failing, and not being able to do the same things you used to be able to, or wanted to because of it. That’s also something present in Io. Growing older and being satisfied with the life you’ve lived up until then.
