Time Attendance Laws in the UAE: What Employers Must Know
Tumblr media
Tracking employee attendance is more than just good practice — it’s a legal requirement in the UAE. Whether you run a small shop or a large company, you must follow the UAE labor law when it comes to working hours, overtime, and rest days.
To stay compliant and avoid penalties, it’s important to understand the rules and how a proper time attendance system can help you follow them.
In this article, we’ll explain the key laws, how they affect your business, and how to keep accurate attendance records the right way.
What Is Time Attendance?
Time attendance simply means recording when your employees start and finish their workday. This includes their check-in time, check-out time, break periods, and any overtime.
Many companies use biometric time attendance systems like fingerprint or face scanners to track employee hours. Others use digital or cloud-based software. Either way, keeping accurate time records is important for payroll, audits, and legal protection.
UAE Labor Law Overview for Attendance
The UAE has clear rules about working hours and attendance. These rules are part of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, which protects both employers and employees.
Let’s break down the key rules:
Working Hours and Breaks
✅ Standard Working Hours
The legal limit is 8 hours per day or 48 hours per week.
During Ramadan, hours are reduced to 6 hours per day for Muslims who are fasting.
✅ Break Time
If an employee works more than 5 continuous hours, they must get a 1-hour break for rest or meals.
✅ Weekly Rest Day
Employees are entitled to at least one day off per week. Most companies give this on Friday or Sunday.
Overtime Rules in the UAE
⏱️ When Overtime Applies
Any work done beyond the normal 8 hours is considered overtime.
💸 Overtime Pay Rates
25% extra for regular overtime (daytime hours).
50% extra for overtime at night or on weekly rest days.
❗ Daily Limit
Overtime should not exceed 2 hours per day, unless there is an emergency.
Why Time Attendance Tracking Is Important
Employers must track attendance properly to ensure:
Employees are paid fairly for their time
The company follows the law
Accurate records are available if a dispute happens
Using a time attendance system in the UAE helps you calculate wages, overtime, and days off without guesswork.
What Should Be Recorded?
A proper attendance record should include:
Clock-in and clock-out times
Break times (if any)
Overtime hours
Employee name and ID
Date and location (for remote or field teams)
These logs should be saved for at least two years in case the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) or a court asks for proof.
Biometric Systems: A Smart Choice
Many businesses in the UAE use biometric time attendance systems, and for good reason.
👍 Benefits of Biometric Attendance
Stops “buddy punching” — where one employee clocks in for another
More accurate than manual sign-in sheets
Easy to connect with payroll systems
Meets the standard for many regulated sectors like construction and security
Some systems even work offline or from mobile devices, which is helpful for remote teams or outdoor staff.
What Happens If You Don’t Comply?
Not following attendance laws can lead to problems such as:
Employee complaints to the labor department
Fines and penalties for missing or fake records
Business license delays during PRO or renewal processes
Court cases if an employee sues for unpaid wages or overtime
Keeping detailed records protects both you and your employees.
How to Stay Compliant
Here are some simple steps to help you follow UAE time attendance laws:
✅ Use a Trusted Attendance System
Invest in a biometric attendance machine or a cloud-based time tracking system that fits your business size.
✅ Train Staff on How to Use It
Make sure employees know how and when to check in and out. This avoids mistakes and saves time later.
✅ Monitor Reports Regularly
Ask HR to review attendance logs weekly or monthly. This helps catch errors early and keeps records clean.
✅ Keep a Backup of All Records
Always keep a digital or printed copy of attendance logs for at least two years.
Conclusion
Time attendance is not just a routine task — it’s a legal responsibility. UAE labor law requires employers to track hours, pay overtime, and give proper rest breaks.
By using a reliable time attendance system, you protect your business from fines, improve payroll accuracy, and create a fair workplace for your team.
If you’re not sure where to start, speak with a local provider in the UAE who offers biometric attendance machines and full setup support.

The grand entrance hall of Volterra, Italy, echoed with the weight of centuries-old secrets and power. It was within these ancient stone walls that the Volturi, the ruling vampire coven, held their dominion. Aro, Caius, and Marcus, the three elder vampires who led the coven, sat upon their thrones, their crimson eyes filled with an ageless wisdom.
Their previous secretary had met an unfortunate end, her fate sealed by a single, costly mistake. Now, it was time to find a new secretary, one who could handle the delicate matters that crossed the Volturi's path.
(Y/n), a human with a reputation for competence and diligence, stood before the Volturi leaders. She pushed her glasses up on her face, the light catching the lenses and reflecting an intense determination in her gaze. She had no intention of failing in this prestigious role.
Aro, the most talkative of the trio, addressed her with a smile that didn't reach his eyes. "I trust you won't follow in our previous secretary's footsteps. Her errors cost her dearly."
(Y/n) met Aro's gaze with unwavering confidence. "No need for the warning, sir. I take my work very seriously. I'm here to ensure that every detail is meticulously attended to."
Caius observed her with a critical eye, his expression stern. "You are aware that our affairs are highly confidential, and discretion is of the utmost importance?"
(Y/n) nodded, her resolve unshaken. "Absolutely, sir. My lips are sealed, and I understand the consequences of breaching that trust."
Marcus, the most reserved of the three, merely regarded her with a measured gaze. "We shall see if your actions align with your words."
(Y/n) straightened her posture, ready to take on her new responsibilities. "You won't be disappointed, gentlemen."
With that, she accepted the role of secretary for the Volturi, stepping into a world of secrecy, power, and ancient vampires. As she walked away, she knew that she had taken on a role unlike any other, one that demanded her utmost dedication and discretion. The reflection of her determination in those glasses was a symbol of the resolve she brought to her new position, one that she intended to uphold at all costs.
(Y/n) settled into her new role as the secretary for the Volturi with a fierce dedication. Her efficiency and attention to detail quickly became apparent to the coven's leaders. Aro, always one to appreciate those who could fulfill his demands promptly, decided to put her to the test.
One afternoon, he strolled into her office, his graceful presence demanding attention. (Y/n) looked up from her desk, her fingers flying across the keyboard of her computer as she organized files and scheduled appointments.
"Ah, (Y/n)," Aro greeted her with his customary smile. "I have a task for you."
(Y/n) nodded, ready to take on any request from her employer. "Of course, master Aro. What do you need?"
Aro explained, "I need you to post an aid about a tour for fifty people for tomorrows feeding, a rather impromptu event. I would like you to schedule it for me.”
(Y/n) didn't miss a beat. She continued typing on her computer, her eyes darting across the screen as she worked her magic with scheduling software. "Consider it done, master Aro."
Aro was taken aback by her speed and efficiency. He had expected this task to take some time, but within mere minutes, (Y/n) turned her screen toward him, displaying a perfectly organized tour for fifty attendees, complete with dates, times, and an itinerary.
His crimson eyes widened with a mixture of surprise and admiration. "You work remarkably fast, (Y/n)."
(Y/n) looked up with a confident smile. "I pride myself on being efficient, master aro. Is there anything else you need?"
Aro chuckled, clearly impressed. "Not at the moment, my dear. Carry on with your excellent work."
As he left her office, (Y/n) couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. She had proven her worth to the Volturi leader, and her efficiency would undoubtedly serve her well in this world of secrecy and power.
In the serene garden of the Volturi castle, Marcus often found solace among the flowers that his late mate had once lovingly tended to. He wandered the garden, lost in his own thoughts, the weight of his immortal life bearing down on him.
One day, as he strolled along the carefully manicured paths, Marcus noticed something extraordinary. The flowers that had once withered away had begun to regrow, vibrant and beautiful as if brought back to life by some unseen force. He couldn't help but be struck by the sight, the memories of his mate's love for these flowers flooding his mind.
Marcus approached a lower guard who was on duty nearby, his curiosity piqued. "Who has been taking care of the garden? These flowers, they are flourishing once more."
The lower guard, a vampire who had served the Volturi for centuries, nodded respectfully to Marcus. "It is the human, my lord."
"The human?" Marcus asked, intrigued. "What is their name?"
The guard, who knew the human by the name the Volturi called her, replied, "The secretary (Y/n), my lord."
Marcus considered this revelation, the name sparking a distant memory. He had heard the name (Y/n) mentioned in passing, but he had paid little attention. Now, it seemed this human was not only tending to the garden but also reviving the memories of his lost mate.
With a nod of appreciation, Marcus continued to admire the blooming flowers, a silent acknowledgment of the human named (Y/n) for her care and dedication. In the garden, among the resurrected blooms, he felt a connection to his past and a glimmer of hope for the future, all thanks to the efforts of this mysterious human.
In the dimly lit halls of the Volturi castle, Caius, one of the coven's leaders, was growing increasingly frustrated. He had been searching for his favorite cloak, a luxurious garment of deep crimson, for what felt like an eternity. His irritation had escalated to the point where his voice echoed through the corridors as he yelled at everyone in his path.
"Where is it? Who has taken my cloak?" he bellowed, his tone venomous.
Vampires scurried to avoid his wrath, their wide-eyed expressions betraying their fear of their temperamental leader.
In the midst of the chaos, a soft and calm voice cut through the tension. "(Y/n)," Caius snapped, his crimson eyes narrowing as he turned to face the human secretary, "(Y/n), have you seen my cloak? I cannot find it anywhere."
(Y/n) stepped forward, holding Caius's missing cloak draped carefully over her arm. Her voice was composed, unruffled by his outburst. "Master Caius, you left this in your office. I've noticed it had specks of dried blood on it, so I've had it dried clean."
Caius was momentarily taken aback, his anger dissipating as he processed her words. He couldn't believe it. The usually distant and indifferent human secretary had not only found his cloak but had taken it upon herself to ensure it was cleaned.
"(Y/n)," Caius said, his voice softer now, "you did this for me?"
(Y/n) nodded, her gaze steady as she met his crimson eyes. "Of course, Master Caius. It's my duty to assist in any way I can."
Caius, still in disbelief, reached out to take the cloak from her arm. His fingers brushed against hers, and he felt a strange, unfamiliar sensation stir within him. He couldn't deny that her thoughtfulness had left a mark on him, one that he couldn't easily dismiss.
As (Y/n) excused herself and left the hallway, Caius watched her retreating figure with a newfound appreciation. It was a small gesture, but one that had touched him deeply, and he couldn't help but wonder if there was more to this human secretary than met the eye.
The grand trial room within the Volturi castle was filled with a weighty silence as the three kings, Aro, Caius, and Marcus, gathered for a discussion. The subject of their conversation was none other than their human secretary, (Y/n).
"She's good at her job, almost too damn good," Aro commented, his eyes gleaming with intrigue. "I can't seem to find a simple mistake in her work."
Caius nodded in agreement. "She's quick, and her work is effective. It seems we'll be keeping her around long-term."
Marcus, who often remained silent, offered his approval with a subtle nod.
The kings reached a unanimous decision. They would offer (Y/n) a gift, one that would bind her to the Volturi for eternity. They sent their most trusted enforcers, the twins Alec and Jane, to fetch her.
Alec and Jane, swift and efficient as always, found (Y/n) in her office. They approached her with the precision of a well-practiced routine.
"(Y/n)," Alec began, his tone even, "the masters request your presence in the trial room."
(Y/n) blinked in surprise but complied, following the twins to the room where the three kings awaited.
Once inside, (Y/n) stood before the Volturi leaders, her heart pounding with anticipation. Aro spoke first, his voice dripping with charm.
"(Y/n), in the short months you have been with us, your dedication and efficiency have impressed us greatly," Aro said, his crimson eyes locked onto hers. "We value your contributions, and we would like to offer you a gift."
(Y/n) couldn't hide her surprise. "A gift, masters?"
Caius stepped forward, his gaze unwavering. "We offer you immortality, (Y/n). A chance to join our coven as one of us."
The offer hung in the air, a life-altering decision that (Y/n) had never expected. She considered her options carefully, her thoughts racing. The weight of eternity was a heavy burden to bear, but the allure of becoming part of the Volturi coven was undeniable.
After a moment of reflection, (Y/n) finally spoke. "I'm not sure what to say, masters, but thank you for the offer."
With her acceptance, the kings nodded in approval. The twins, Alec and Jane, moved closer, their hands lightly touching her body. “Alec -“ aro calls out and in second Alec has (y/n) wrapped in his dark smoke, her senses numbing within seconds. “Don’t worry dear, it’ll be over in no time.”
Over the course of three days, (Y/n) underwent the agonizing process of the vampire transformation. She endured the fire of change, sometimes which were numbed by Alec per the kings request and now she was emerging from the ordeal as a newborn vampire, her senses heightened and her existence forever entwined with the Volturi.
As her eyes fluttered open in her new immortal life, (Y/n) realized that she had become a permanent part of the Volturi coven, her loyalty and dedication recognized in the most profound way possible.

CAREER AND ASTROLOGY
I've found it is easy to see people's inclinations in terms of future careers in birthcharts. Most people would look at the MC. But I'm here to tell you that is wrong. Or at least, possibly could. I'm going to explain. In the past, there wasn't things as careers. Most kids inherited their parent's jobs and the ones who could afford it, turned to hobbies like writing, philosophy and etc. As so, people would be known by their "job" (even if they didn't make a living out of it like a lot of writers and philosophers from the past).
This could also take another turn. There are the money houses and then there is the 10th house. The 10th house isn't a money house, it is the service you give to society, (again another thing you would be known for). But lately we have associated this house with career, as now it is something we give back to community (since if nobody worked, society would stop working). So if you want you can also take a look at your 10th house.
The 2nd house is mostly associated with money and resources. So we are going to mostly look at that house and also at the chart ruler (planet that rules your ascendant).
Note: I would like to point out there are other money houses: the 5th (money won from contests, bets, gambles, etc) , 8th (money from other people, like inheritances, taxes, borrowed) , and 11th (gains from profession)
2nd house/10th house/ascendant's ruler in 1st house or in Aries
entrepreneur, freelancer, actor or model, coach or mentor, personal trainer (especially if mars is exalted), public figure, activist, politician
2nd house/10th house/ascendant's ruler in 2nd house or in taurus
banker, florist, farming, singer, voice actor, real estate, chef, artisan, financial advisor, retail, luxury goods, sales, jeweller,
2nd house/10th house/ascendant's ruler in 3rd house
writer, social worker, journalist, blogger, social media manager, teacher, data analyst, driver, delivery, logistics, public speaker, podcast host, marketer, advertiser
2nd house/10th house/ascendant's ruler in 4th house
real estate agent, interior design, chef, cateerer (especially home based), architect, builder, stay at home parents, family business, psychologist, working with kids, therapist, genealogist, historian, builder
2nd house/10th house/ascendant's ruler in 5th house
artist, actor, performer, musician, dancer, content creator, influencer, teacher, fashion/beauty industry, entrepreneur, gambler, game developer, writer
2nd house/10th house/ascendant's ruler in 6th house
nurse, doctor, veterinary (or just working with animals-especially small), health Care worker, nutritionist, wellness coach, assistant, secretary, office manager, analyst, technician, military, public servant,
2nd house/10th house/ascendant's ruler in 7th house
lawyer, mediator, diplomat, therapist, consult, counselor, business coach, pr specialist, brand ambassador, wedding planner, matchmaker, Artist manager/agent, something to do with clients one-to-one
2nd house/10th house/ascendant's ruler in 8th house
psychologist, psychiatrist, healer, tax advisor, inheritance lawyer, mortician, crime scene analyst, sex worker, financial investor, accountant
2nd house/10th house/ascendant's ruler in 9th house
writer, professor, scholar, philosopher, lawyer, publisher, editor, translator, foreign affairs, diplomats, tour guide, flight attendant, pilot, working in company abroad or international
2nd house/10th house/ascendant's ruler in 10th house
ceo, executive, manager, politician, leader, influencer or public figure, professional in any field, judge, authority figure
2nd house/10th house/ascendant's ruler in 11th house
tech entrepreneur, software engineer, social worker, activist, fundraiser, event organiser, pr, community manager, hr, astrologer, innovator,
2nd house/10th house/ascendant's ruler in 12th house
artist, poet, filmmaker, monk, psychologist, dream analyst, hospital/hospice/prison worker, researcher, charity worker, working with big animals

#BoycottSpringer
If you're German like me, you'll likely already know the Springer Press is a vile, right-wing media conglomerate that regularly spreads transphobic, homophobic, racist and xenophobic lies, promotes right-wing ideology and violates journalistic boundaries (including illegal violations of privacy).
They're essentially the Fox News of Germany but even more influential since they're not just limited to one type of medium.
Since the early 1960s, people have been trying to take down Springer for spreading right-wing propaganda and misinformation and yet, here we are...
Most people don't know how many media outlets are actually owned by Springer though, so here is a full list (provided by KreativGegenRechts):
Welt TV
Dyn Sport
Rolling Stone Germany, Musikexpress
Metal Hammer
Radio Hamburg

With Germany heading down the same road as the US at the moment, please try to avoid everything listed above. Thank you.
And in case you're unaware how bad it's gotten in Germany recently...
Friedrich "Dipshit" Merz actively violates EU-law by denying asylum to refugees coming to German borders (x)
Our government agreed to GEAS which will allow European countries to lock up refugees (including children) at Europe's borders in "reception camps" (x)
Jens Spahn wasted 3.2 billion euros in taxpayer money to suck up to his "friends" and other politicians tried to cover for him by blacking out the vast majority of evidence in the document of proof before publishing it - an uncensored version was leaked shortly after (x)
The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution has issued a warning that queer people, leftist people, and immigrants are now considered "in danger of life and limb", meaning people belonging to these groups are being actively targeted by right wing youth organizations (x)
Another CDU politician - from the same party as Merz and Sphan (one of the two current ruling parties) - wants a register for mentally ill people - you know, like in Nazi times (x)
Adding to this, another minister wants to give the police direct access to people's psychiatric patient files (x)
Jens fucking Spahn again: he wants direct access to nuclear weapons to "scare Russia" (x)
CDU and SPD want to get rid of refugees' ability to bring their families into the country after arriving here (AS IF THAT WOULD FIX THE INTEGRATION PROBLEM) (x)
The minister for education banned the use of gendered language in her ministry - both internally and externally (x)
Another fucking CDU politician banned the parliament from hanging the PRIDE flag while also banning delegates from attending PRIDE events and then defended it by saying "The most globally persecuted group of people is actually Christians, so I should be putting up the Vatikan flag once a year." (x)
Meanwhile our fucking chancellor topped this by saying the parliament building is "no circus tent" so why would we ever put up the PRIDE flag? (x)
The CDU, once again, wants to cut benefits for the unemployed while giving tax breaks to the rich (because of course they do - they're all FUCKING LOBBYISTS) (x)

My DEI Experience
The very public cancelations of DEI programs got me thinking about my experience as the Executive Sponsor of a DEI program at a major global software company a few years ago.
There were several DEI groups (ex. LGBTQ, Pan-Asians, Blacks, etc.) and I was sponsor for the Black group. It was an enlightening experience for me and I'm proud that I helped many members secure interviews for internal positions and several were promoted.
My company's DEI program didn't have any hiring quotas, instead it was more of a networking and training opportunity for DEI members to share their experiences, learn some new skills and get exposure to sr. executives and hopefully secure the executive's support and encouragement.
As the sponsor of the DEI program, I couldn't help but acknowledge the advantages I'd enjoyed throughout my career as a tall white-guy, with similar tall white-guy professionals as family members. When graduating from Indiana University in 1989, I went to work at Price Waterhouse in St. Louis, the same office my Dad worked at when he graduated from college 25 years prior. I met all the hiring criteria (GPA, interviews etc.) and passed the CPA exam, etc. so the decision to hire me wasn't a favor to my Dad, but it certainly didn't hurt that a few of the partners knew my name and if nothing else, I didn't have imposter syndrome. My Dad had done this job and nearly everyone else doing the job looked like me as did almost everyone in sr. mgt.
My second job was with a company that employed my father-in-law. I don't think that influenced the decision to hire me, but it certainly didn't hurt. At this second company I entered the industry where I spent my career, much of it working for a guy who had attended my wedding as a guest of my in-laws. I'm confident that any of my colleagues would agree that I excelled in my various roles, but having those initial personal connections didn't hurt and there were other candidates and colleagues without the benefit of my network by birth and marriage. Through it all, I recognize that I looked like the hiring manager and the last person to have the job I was seeking.
One of the most enriching aspects of my DEI experience was gaining an understanding of how being a minority introduces an entirely new suite of uncertainties. On the rare occasion I received a less than stellar performance review or was passed over for a promotion, I never considered that my race/gender/sexual orientation might be the reason. But the conversations with my DEI colleagues confirmed that this is ALWAYS in the back of their mind, especially working for an overwhelmingly white company. Every colleague could cite examples of overt, incontrovertible racism they'd experienced (not necessarily at the company) which had made them question whether quiet racism was influencing their experience at our company. For example, was their supervisor just generally a jerk, or was the supervisor especially unpleasant to the employee because of her race, gender, etc.? If you've been on the receiving end of maltreatment, it can be difficult to be objective.
My role as the DEI sponsor was pretty straightforward. I did basic things like help critique resumes and provide interview coaching. I encouraged the candidates to overcome their imposter syndrome and apply for aspirational positions. Most importantly, I tried to be the networking resource they lacked. I sent notes and arranged brief phone calls with hiring managers to introduce the candidate. I was very careful not to inadvertently pressure the hiring manager (I know that just receiving an email from me created anxiety). I simply asked that the hiring manager/interviewer give the candidate an interview. I'm proud that my DEI group experienced above-average promotion velocity in the company.
Americans love to celebrate the 'pull yourself up by your bootstraps' story and white males especially want to believe that they are self made men. DEI programs can be challenging for guys like me because it can cause introspection which is humbling. It requires a person to acknowledge that maybe, just maybe you had some help along the way or at a minimum, you didn't face the external and internal obstacles of other candidates who may have been just as smart and capable. It is humbling to admit that at the very least, you benefitted from the fact that you looked like the last person who did the job; that's why I think white males are so intent on dismantling DEI programs.

Elon Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has plans to stage a “hackathon” next week in Washington, DC. The goal is to create a single “mega API”—a bridge that lets software systems talk to one another—for accessing IRS data, sources tell WIRED. The agency is expected to partner with a third-party vendor to manage certain aspects of the data project. Palantir, a software company cofounded by billionaire and Musk associate Peter Thiel, has been brought up consistently by DOGE representatives as a possible candidate, sources tell WIRED.
Two top DOGE operatives at the IRS, Sam Corcos and Gavin Kliger, are helping to orchestrate the hackathon, sources tell WIRED. Corcos is a health-tech CEO with ties to Musk’s SpaceX. Kliger attended UC Berkeley until 2020 and worked at the AI company Databricks before joining DOGE as a special adviser to the director at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). Corcos is also a special adviser to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
Since joining Musk’s DOGE, Corcos has told IRS workers that he wants to pause all engineering work and cancel current attempts to modernize the agency’s systems, according to sources with direct knowledge who spoke with WIRED. He has also spoken about some aspects of these cuts publicly: "We've so far stopped work and cut about $1.5 billion from the modernization budget. Mostly projects that were going to continue to put us down the death spiral of complexity in our code base," Corcos told Laura Ingraham on Fox News in March.
Corcos has discussed plans for DOGE to build “one new API to rule them all,” making IRS data more easily accessible for cloud platforms, sources say. APIs, or application programming interfaces, enable different applications to exchange data, and could be used to move IRS data into the cloud. The cloud platform could become the “read center of all IRS systems,” a source with direct knowledge tells WIRED, meaning anyone with access could view and possibly manipulate all IRS data in one place.
Over the last few weeks, DOGE has requested the names of the IRS’s best engineers from agency staffers. Next week, DOGE and IRS leadership are expected to host dozens of engineers in DC so they can begin “ripping up the old systems” and building the API, an IRS engineering source tells WIRED. The goal is to have this task completed within 30 days. Sources say there have been multiple discussions about involving third-party cloud and software providers like Palantir in the implementation.
Corcos and DOGE indicated to IRS employees that they intended to first apply the API to the agency’s mainframes and then move on to every other internal system. Initiating a plan like this would likely touch all data within the IRS, including taxpayer names, addresses, social security numbers, as well as tax return and employment data. Currently, the IRS runs on dozens of disparate systems housed in on-premises data centers and in the cloud that are purposefully compartmentalized. Accessing these systems requires special permissions and workers are typically only granted access on a need-to-know basis.
A “mega API” could potentially allow someone with access to export all IRS data to the systems of their choosing, including private entities. If that person also had access to other interoperable datasets at separate government agencies, they could compare them against IRS data for their own purposes.
“Schematizing this data and understanding it would take years,” an IRS source tells WIRED. “Just even thinking through the data would take a long time, because these people have no experience, not only in government, but in the IRS or with taxes or anything else.” (“There is a lot of stuff that I don't know that I am learning now,” Corcos tells Ingraham in the Fox interview. “I know a lot about software systems, that's why I was brought in.")
These systems have all gone through a tedious approval process to ensure the security of taxpayer data. Whatever may replace them would likely still need to be properly vetted, sources tell WIRED.
"It's basically an open door controlled by Musk for all American's most sensitive information with none of the rules that normally secure that data," an IRS worker alleges to WIRED.
The data consolidation effort aligns with President Donald Trump’s executive order from March 20, which directed agencies to eliminate information silos. While the order was purportedly aimed at fighting fraud and waste, it also could threaten privacy by consolidating personal data housed on different systems into a central repository, WIRED previously reported.
In a statement provided to WIRED on Saturday, a Treasury spokesperson said the department “is pleased to have gathered a team of long-time IRS engineers who have been identified as the most talented technical personnel. Through this coalition, they will streamline IRS systems to create the most efficient service for the American taxpayer. This week the team will be participating in the IRS Roadmapping Kickoff, a seminar of various strategy sessions, as they work diligently to create efficient systems. This new leadership and direction will maximize their capabilities and serve as the tech-enabled force multiplier that the IRS has needed for decades.”
Palantir, Sam Corcos, and Gavin Kliger did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
In February, a memo was drafted to provide Kliger with access to personal taxpayer data at the IRS, The Washington Post reported. Kliger was ultimately provided read-only access to anonymized tax data, similar to what academics use for research. Weeks later, Corcos arrived, demanding detailed taxpayer and vendor information as a means of combating fraud, according to the Post.
“The IRS has some pretty legacy infrastructure. It's actually very similar to what banks have been using. It's old mainframes running COBOL and Assembly and the challenge has been, how do we migrate that to a modern system?” Corcos told Ingraham in the same Fox News interview. Corcos said he plans to continue his work at IRS for a total of six months.
DOGE has already slashed and burned modernization projects at other agencies, replacing them with smaller teams and tighter timelines. At the Social Security Administration, DOGE representatives are planning to move all of the agency’s data off of legacy programming languages like COBOL and into something like Java, WIRED reported last week.
Last Friday, DOGE suddenly placed around 50 IRS technologists on administrative leave. On Thursday, even more technologists were cut, including the director of cybersecurity architecture and implementation, deputy chief information security officer, and acting director of security risk management. IRS’s chief technology officer, Kaschit Pandya, is one of the few technology officials left at the agency, sources say.
DOGE originally expected the API project to take a year, multiple IRS sources say, but that timeline has shortened dramatically down to a few weeks. “That is not only not technically possible, that's also not a reasonable idea, that will cripple the IRS,” an IRS employee source tells WIRED. “It will also potentially endanger filing season next year, because obviously all these other systems they’re pulling people away from are important.”
(Corcos also made it clear to IRS employees that he wanted to kill the agency’s Direct File program, the IRS’s recently released free tax-filing service.)
DOGE’s focus on obtaining and moving sensitive IRS data to a central viewing platform has spooked privacy and civil liberties experts.
“It’s hard to imagine more sensitive data than the financial information the IRS holds,” Evan Greer, director of Fight for the Future, a digital civil rights organization, tells WIRED.
Palantir received the highest FedRAMP approval this past December for its entire product suite, including Palantir Federal Cloud Service (PFCS) which provides a cloud environment for federal agencies to implement the company’s software platforms, like Gotham and Foundry. FedRAMP stands for Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program and assesses cloud products for security risks before governmental use.
“We love disruption and whatever is good for America will be good for Americans and very good for Palantir,” Palantir CEO Alex Karp said in a February earnings call. “Disruption at the end of the day exposes things that aren't working. There will be ups and downs. This is a revolution, some people are going to get their heads cut off.”

I think about making my own studio pretty much every spring because this is the part of the year that there's typically some kind of fuckup at the office that could be fixed with an accurate and concise system of recordkeeping and redundancies, and I know how I would restructure the system to prevent problems like that with a series of file trees.
BUT I WOULD NOT BE DOING SCHOOL PHOTOS if I owned my own studio. I would be focusing more on dance, fantasy, and lifestyle portraiture- all of which do not need to be kept diligently for 9 months and even if they DID there would not be quite so many moving parts.
It would be easier, in general, because I do not need to have class rosters, student numbers, permission slips, order forms, contacts for school attendance offices and admins, would not need to deal with patch updates for the data alignment software...
All of the frustrations of my job are related directly to the VOLUME of photography I am doing and the customer logistics.
But starting my own studio is its own problem! Finding a space to use that has high ceilings, secure storage, and fairly low rent is rather difficult. I would need a separate computer specifically for photography because mine is filling up fast. I'd need new strobes because mine are just constants. Backdrops. Props.
There is a lot of up-front cost for this and that's before we get into branding and promotion and the general upkeep of a business to get customers consistently. Like if you have a space like that, you have to keep it in use to maximize your dollar out of it and I wish you could just like... own a space and use it however.
Anyways.
Plans for a potential future.

coming from one of those "born in mid 2000s and is now suddenly an adult, making everyone feel old," people, do you have any resources to learn how to bullshit your way through getting a job with zero experience. cause i cant even put like "babysitting" or anything since covid prevented literally any teenage-typical jobs and i kinda dont know what to put on a resume beyond the university im currently attending and the high school i graduated from. and they still dont teach you this in school even though we've complained for years 😭
Okay my chilluns, listen up. This is how to bullshit your way into a basic 1-page resume even if you think you have absolutely dum-dum-diddlysquat to put on it. I completely feel you, as it's hard as hell to get a job even in the ordinary course of things, and especially when everything seems to want 10 years of experience and a bachelor's degree (and still pays like shit). But you gotta be persistent anyway. So here follows the step-by-step guide of How To Resume:
Open a new Word (or other word-processing software of your choice) document.
Pick a nice, professional-looking font (for the love of God, no Comic Sans). Times New Roman is fine; you don't have to overthink it. My own CV is currently in Perpetua, because it's a nice serif that looks crisp and a little different, but it is still clean and readable. Garamond or Cambria or other starter typefaces are fine too. Make sure it is the right size, usually around 12pt.
Put your full name at the top, centered, in BOLD CAPITALS. Increase the typeface size a few more points on this, to make it stand out and to make it take up space.
Underneath this, in regular-sized text, put your contact information: mailing address if you're comfortable sharing it, or if not, at least your phone number and email address. Use a school email if you have it, and not some weird/in-jokey personal email.
Start a new paragraph. In a slightly smaller font (italic if you want to make it look classy) write a few words about yourself. This should be something like I am a [Major] student at [University] looking for a part-time, entry-level position in [sales, retail, office, etc]. A [year] graduate of [High School] in [City, State], I am [prompt, reliable, detail-oriented, mature, friendly, etc] and a hard worker who is eager to gain experience and positively contribute to your business.
Start a new paragraph. Change the alignment from Center to Left. Create a new heading in bold underline labeled Education.
Under this, fill in your education (college first, followed by high school). Include the institution name, city, and state, the year you graduated or expect to graduate, any honors or awards, any extracurriculars, any grade-point averages if they're good (i.e. 3.0 and above), and your expected major in college.
Start a new paragraph. Create another heading: Experience.
This is where you put absolutely anything you can think of (in chronological order, most recent first and counting backward). Did you volunteer for something ever in your life? Put it down! (Title of work, dates, location, brief description of work). Did you do yard work for someone for a weekend? Put it down! Were you (or are you) part of a student club or organization in high school or university? Have you organized or taken part in any local initiatives in your community or neighborhood? Put it down! Basically, absolutely any kind of work, paid or unpaid, that might be relevant, regardless of how long it was or when it took place.
Under that, put the new heading/paragraph Skills and Interests.
Have you worked with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Adobe, Photoshop? Put it down! People love that shit! Do you use social media and/or know how to work it better than the average grandma? Put 'er down! You get the idea. Think of anything in your daily life that can be put in Job Language and then see if you can do that. You are in university; do you have any projects, papers, or other things that you're proud of? Have you successfully managed a (gasp) group project? Do you make any kind of art? Are you a registered voter who has taken part in civic/political organizations, drives, or events? (If not, REGISTER TO VOTE! This is your angry grandmother speaking). All of that can go down. Even if it's not job experience per se, it's life experience and shows that you are someone who is engaged with the world and working to gain more.
Last paragraph and heading: References. Ask a few trusted adults who know you well and aren't related to you, such as a favorite high school teacher or a university faculty member/degree advisor, if they'd be willing to serve as referees. Put down their full names, titles/place of work, email addresses, and phone numbers.
Voila! You have a full page resume, probably even a little more if you're lucky. Proofread, make sure the spacing is even and the alignment is right, it doesn't look weird, the text is a consistent size, it's all the same color, there are no glaring typos or grammatical errors, etc. etc. Save it as a PDF.
Boom. Done. You are now a Job Hunting Maestro.
If you get an interview, you don't need to pretend that you have tons of experience or that you're something you're not, but you can present what you ARE in a positive light anyway. Don't apologize for yourself or play yourself down pre-emptively; be confident about yourself and what you can offer. You're a college kid looking for your first part-time job, COVID prevented you from a lot of normal teenage work experience, you're willing to work hard and learn new things. Here's your resume. What would be a good time to talk again.
Good luck! I believe in you.

I think like it’s completely normal that after I got home this morning I just sat in my car staring into space going over and over what happened. Then going inside and trying to distract myself just to zone out watching YouTube, to get in bed and lay there for hours just.. watching stuff on my phone and thinking about work and thinking about everything that was left unfinished. And like- not my circus not my monkeys anymore but it’s so damn frustrating that like— OUT OF ALL THE THINGS THEY FIRED ME OVER. It was ATTENDANCE. Bc I CALL OUT SICK AND IN PAIN A LOT. The one thing I’d been so transparent about with them from day one.
I’ve done far worse at that job and part of me wants to wear that as a badge of honor that I never got caught for the actual egregious things. But then it’s maddening that they essentially got my ass bc I was sick. Like fuck them fr. And when my boss came to grab me I was actually working on trying to make sure we could fucking print again bc of course the servers and the software were all fucking up again.
I had things printed that I ended up just throwing in the trash because it wasn’t my problem anymore. They locked my email immediately, and all I wanted to do was email one sales rep that I’m sorry I wouldn’t be able to finish working on the cooler wrap he wanted bc I FINALLY had time to print it and I was going to do it Monday. It’s all these little strings and lingering thoughts. The only thing I have access to is the sign request portal I built. No one else knows the backend like I do and even still, a petty part of me wants to go and fuck with it and throw my tantrum like a petty bitch because i went through too much shit to go out with such a lame whimper.
I did go through and remove all the jobs I had in my queue and returned them to the main queue. Maybe it’s a dead giveaway, maybe it isn’t. They’ll change the password eventually and I’ll be a distant memory. I didn’t have any friends there really and the ones I did quit in the last year or so. I’ve been miserable there for so long and it’s a GOOD thing I’m not there anymore. It’s a GOOD thing I’ll have time to breathe and work on my personal life and my health. It’s a GOOD THING this happened the day after I started my new meds. I will be okay. I want to give myself a week to breathe, to do things I enjoy, to relax.
The job hunt scares me, instability scares me. But no one I told has been disappointed in me or made me feel bad. Because they got it, they understood and heard me complain or watched me cry over this job for years. They saw the toll it took on every aspect of my life. How hollow I felt when I’d leave and come back.
It’s such a stark difference from how disappointed everyone seemed in me at that office. How they’d constantly move the goalpost when I finally reached it, how I was told they wouldn’t accommodate me time and time again but bragged about how much they ‘care’ about everyone who works at NKS. How I knew I was never going to get the chair I needed or never get approved to work from home on sick days instead of having to call out entirely while someone on the team works from home full time. Just.. it really is- was something. Tomorrow I’ll sign my severance paperwork and I’ll never have to suffer in that office again. I’m finally free. Scared of the future, but so finally and refreshingly free.

In 2008, a software developer in San Francisco named Curtis Yarvin, writing under a pseudonym, proposed a horrific solution for people he deemed “not productive”: “convert them into biodiesel, which can help power the Muni buses.”
Yarvin, a self-described reactionary and extremist who was 35 years old at the time, clarified that he was “just kidding.” But then he continued, “The trouble with the biodiesel solution is that no one would want to live in a city whose public transportation was fueled, even just partly, by the distilled remains of its late underclass. However, it helps us describe the problem we are trying to solve. Our goal, in short, is a humane alternative to genocide.”
He then concluded that the “best humane alternative to genocide” is to “virtualize” these people: Imprison them in “permanent solitary confinement” where, to avoid making them insane, they would be connected to an “immersive virtual-reality interface” so they could “experience a rich, fulfilling life in a completely imaginary world.”
Yarvin’s disturbing manifestos have earned him influential followers, chief among them: tech billionaire Peter Thiel and his onetime Silicon Valley protégé Senator J.D. Vance, whom the Republican Party just nominated to be Donald Trump’s vice president. If Trump wins the election, there is little doubt that Vance will bring Yarvin’s twisted techno-authoritarianism to the White House, and one can imagine—with horror—what a receptive would-be autocrat like Trump might do with those ideas.
Way back in 2012, in a speech on “How to Reboot the US Government,” he said, “If Americans want to change their government, they’re going to have to get over their dictator phobia.” He had also written favorably of slavery and white nationalists in the late 2000s (though he has stated that he is not a white nationalist himself).
Both Thiel and Vance are friends of Yarvin.
. . .
In 2016, Yarvin attended Thiel’s election night party in San Francisco where, according to Chafkin, champagne flowed once it became clear that Thiel’s investment in Donald Trump would pay off.
Since entering politics, Vance has publicly praised—and parroted—Yarvin’s ideas.
. . .
When Vance ran for U.S. Senate in 2022, Thiel spent an unprecedented $15 million on the campaign and persuaded Trump to endorse him (Vance had previously compared Trump to Hitler). In 2024, Thiel led the charge to convince Trump to pick Vance as V.P.
. . .
Yarvin is the chief thinker behind an obscure but increasingly influential far-right neoreaction, or NRx, movement, that some call the “Dark Enlightenment.” Among other things, it openly promotes dictatorships as superior to democracies and views nations like the United States as outdated software systems. Yarvin seeks to reengineer governments by breaking them up into smaller entities called “patchworks,” which would be controlled by tech corporations.
