#aug i forgot to tag the ocs

Ok so here's my thoughts so far:

I'm adding four existent guys to Richard's side in Hollowridge for two purposes: 1. Beef up their side because atm there aren't any significant characters in it other than Richard himself and December. and also 2. Because I miss these guys and they have similar vibes (ultraviolence). [Feel free to refer to this lineup for the other HR ocs mentioned in this post]

Since some of you might know them, some of you might not I decided to draw them real quick so you have more than just names to look at :]

David (left) is an altered human, like Beial. He has two huge, fully functioning wings and ability to generate lightning to attack with. He's also got insane an self-healing ability, which makes him be able to come back from almost any wound :)

Midas (right) is an ancient corpse from the old world that is being kept alive/maintained by a bioengineered fungal colony (an organic computer made it's home inside an employee to keep working when it's mainframe failed). He's still MOSTLY himself personality-wise, but due to his lack of a head a lot if not all his memories have been obliterated. His human body is a disguise for a bigger monster form.

Engel (left) is an ex-soldier and acts as Richard's main enforcer. He has a mimic weapon called MAUL, which manifests as multiple guns that he can manipulate independently. He's clearly deranged and will use any and every opportunity to use his weapon on anyone else. He loses control of it sometimes.

Set (right) is a mystery for now :) but he's pretty strong.

This brings the total characters on each side of the conflict up to six so things are more balanced. On Dianne's side there's three people and three weapons, and on Richard's side there's a couple people, a couple weapons, and a bunch of unethical Experiments™.

Yeah I did! I kinda forget I don't really post about it on here that much bleh

Okay! So, first I think you gotta decide what game you wanna base your sprites on. I picked DR2 so most of my advice is gonna be based on that game- but each game has a slightly different way of making sprites (though DR1&2 are more similar). For example, DRV3's sprites are usually more detailed and use thinner lines compared to DR2.

Ex:

I use multiple DR2 characters as bases, but it's mostly for body position- and hands... grr

For shading, I picked a light grey color and used the multiply filter for the clothes, hair, and eyes, but for the skin, I used a lighter skin tone so there was more color to the skin. Fold shading is a bit odd, so keep in mind where your light source will be for the sprite (for all sprites it's either on the right or left).

The sprites can help inform where you need to put folds and shading, but honestly sometimes just wing it and draw them where it feels right (or look at irl references).

For hair, you're going to want to group them into sections and divide them by a few lines. With Chiaki above, she has rectangles of hair that are split up by shorter lines (front hair) and dividing lines (back hair). This isn't a hard rule (I mean look at Hajime and Komaeda), but multiple characters do have this detail and it gives the appearance there are more hair strands. Also, shade along these lines.

Eyes are another thing. Every character has unique eyes. Girls typically have eyelashes, but again not a hard rule (shuichi 💙). Also, the line of shading over the iris is always near the pupil (slightly above or below). It's really up to you how you wanna draw your character's eyes otherwise!

Referring to game sprites will help in general, but fan sprites can also give inspo if you can't find what you're looking for in game sprites.

Almost forgot to mention that the sprites are kinda messy if you take a closer look! Honestly I think they may have just cleaned up messy sketches to make the line art, but I forget to do that myself cause my brain wants perfect lines. So you can definitely shortcut sometimes and be messy. If it was good enough for the official game, it's good enough for tumblr ^^

Here's the texture I use to overlay onto Nitsumi's clothes and hair, you may wanna adjust the size and compare it to DR2 sprites.

Also in case you use ibispaintx, I use this brush, 0.3-0.4 for smaller details like hair and folds, 0.5 for the outer outline of a character.

Partner: George 'Digger' Harkness Birthday: Aug/19/1998 Basic Information: Backstory: Regie was a single child and while growing up had some developing mental issues and thus took her to the child wing to Arkham but soon forgot they had a child and soon stopped visiting her. During that time Doctor Strange started to do experiments on them starting will small things like needle injections before after a while it turned to body modulation. She started being isolated and beaten if she didn't met Doctor Strange's expatiations. Regie's neck was handcuffed to a pole and her left wrist was cuffed to her bed frame while her ankles were chained together to prevent runed away. Beaten with chains and whips she soon developed a fer of being touched by anyone even herself. Due to the experiments Doctor strange ran on her body shifted so lost her eyes and nose leaving her only to have a monster mouth filled with sharp teeth filled the void of her face. When she got older and Doctor strange was killed she was found by Amada Waller and was taken into custody and thorn into a re-bult Arkham and kept in a glass cell to keep kin eye of the guards as to not do anything that would cause an incident. Appearance: Regie is a monster in nice terms, but she is a science experiment. Having no eyes or nose instead only have a large, wide mouth filled with sharp spread out teeth paired with a smaller set of teeth deeper inside the mouth. She has a wound on her head that is dripping blood that has trouble healing. Longish black scraggly hair was kept down but on occasions like when it got hotter out it was pulled into a ponytail. Long elf-like ears in a pinned back moment. She has scars from chains and whips along her back, arms, and legs. Usually seen in rags like in torn or burned clothing matched with some mini shorts or a skirt and some torn and ripped tights paired with some old metal toed boots. Her long tan demon tail and was kept close as to not band I onto anything while walking around smaller areas. Animal Represent: Saddle Colors Represents: Antique White, Burgundy, Claret, Maroon, Mexican Pink, Misty Rose, Orchid Pink Hobbies: She likes weaving baskets a small hobby she picked up and due to her lack of sight. Finger painting is also a hobby she picked up as she stared to like the feeling of her hands in liquid and thus she can be seen painting on the wall when not of missions. Though when she not panting or weaving she can be found pulling on her tail softly or stroking it lightly as a self-soothing technique. As we as listening to music a lot as it makes up for not seeing in some ways but when she does watch movies she has to be with someone when there is no descriptive audio option. My birthday’s Aug 19th and I had the idea of making a wishlist for my twitter followers of things they could draw for me (plus places where they could buy my stuff and donate to me). The list basically basically consists of 3 types of my persona, 2 OCs, and Amabie or any other yokai. Of course I needed to provide references for my personas and OCs so scraped up some drawings I had and put them together with notes. I had so much fun putting these ref sheets together that I wanted to share them here on Instagram. But first I needed to make them all square shapes so I could post them together. So I added patterns to fill the negative space and I got so into it that I forgot that the purpose of this post wasn’t to recreate the twitter wishlist thread, it was just to post the ref sheets I made cus I liked them so much.
