people who are saying that the leafs will be better off without mitch forget that a big reason why JT had such career years his first few years as a leaf was because of how elite mitch was as a line-mate. even just a highlight video from 2019 is so stacked. he elevated JT - an already generational player - to another level just because he was so skilled on the ice. and by the way, JT was convinced by kyle dubas to sign in toronto with a marner highlight reel. and then of course when him and auston were paired up, they were fucking dynamite. they’ve factored on the same goal 201 times, setting a franchise record, even though they weren’t even lineys and didn’t have any ice time together for half of mitch’s tenure. mitch is a big reason why auston has 3 rocket richards and an art ross/hart, why auston could even think about touching 70 goals. and let’s not forget how essential he is to the FIVE FORWARD powerplay that toronto will no longer be able to run. he’s also a selke finalist and even filled in as a defenceman not once but twice IN THE NHL. he was the most elite PKer on the team, including defensemen like mo. he’s hit 90+ points 6 out of 9 times and hit 70/80+ the other 3. he had FORTY TWO ASSISTS as A ROOKIE which is a franchise record in both points and assists. so please don’t be delusional, you cannot find a replacement for mitch because he’s one in a million.

the lights were bright and colourful, decorations hung around the walls and tables, cocktails flooding the room, snacks upon snacks with laughter and love being shared with each other.
it was new years eve, therefore unsurprisingly celebrated at the marner residence. you were mingling with the rest of your friends on the arm of your boyfriend and known “greasy rat” michael bunting. it was the first christmas with bunts not playing for toronto anymore, however connections and bonds grow deeper than contracts and trades. so regardless of where you might be living right now, toronto is your home. and you were grateful to be spending your time with the group of people you feel most connected to.
later on in the night, some of the boys wanted to challenge each other in a game of pool. the rest of the wives and girlfriends stayed chatting in the living room with some glasses of wine. you took your cup, however you felt a hunch that you could have a bit more fun as a spectator for the game.
michael has had lingering touches on you all night, and you were starting to get more needy the more he spoke to the others. so what was a way to motivate him into fulfilling a need before the night ends? perhaps, you felt like being a little bratty today!
you sit on a couch in the game room, watching auston make sure the table is set up accordingly. the boys began barking at each other, teasing the other about who will win. they decided to play in pairs at first. auston with mo and bunts with willy. mitch was going to play, but he was chirped out of the group before he could even grab a stick. you giggled.
the first round wasn’t too bad. michael was carried by william’s strategic movements and consistent straight shots. you chose to make sure you praised willy as much as you could. you could notice the way bunts would hold his cue tighter, it only ignited you more.
however, auston and morgan put up a good fight, and got a two for one shot to win the game. that's when they decided to break off into individuals, mo and willy first—willy winning—and now aus and bunts, meaning you were ready to continue running your mouth.
music buzzed in the background from the other room. bunts is lining up his shot. you crossed your legs together, watching with a mischievous grin, sipping your drink.
“alright boys, watch and learn. ‘bout to end this game right now.” bunts says.
you snicker, “please! you’ve been saying that for the last ten minutes. just take the shot already, you self-proclaimed pool shark.” the boys giggle.
bunts pauses to glare at you “you wanna hop on this table and try your luck, or are you just here to run your mouth?”
you smile, already finding yourself under his skin. “why would i ruin this perfectly mid game with my superior skills? this tragedy is way more fun.”
“she’s got a point, man. you better not scratch this twice in a row. again.” mo says, finding himself betting on the underdog whilst reminding him of his faults. it made you giggle.
bunts straightens up in defense, “okay, first of all, those scratches were tactical. second—mo, didn’t you just miss a straight shot last game? sit down.”
willy laughs, “yeah, but at least he didn’t call it ‘tactical.’ you’re just making stuff up now.”
“‘tactical scratches’ is that what we’re calling choking these days?” you chirp again.
bunts smiles, “keep chirping, babe. the more you talk, the more i’m convinced you’ve never touched a cue in your life.”
“oh, i’ve touched a cue. i just don’t need to overcompensate for my lack of skills like some people.”
auston laughs,“she’s ruthless, man. you sure she’s on your side?”
bunts grabs the chalk, rubbing it dramatically on his cue “oh, she’s on my side. she just likes to act tough in public so she doesn’t seem too obsessed with me.”
you scoff. “obsessed? honey, i’m only here because the good snacks ran out, and watching you lose is free entertainment.” you smirk, sitting back and taking another sip of your drink.
“okay take the shot already kid.” mo says.
bunts points at the men in front of him, “you better hope i don’t win this game. i’ll make sure you guys never live it down.”
from the angle in which you sit, you have a deep feeling the ball will bounce too much off of the edge and miss the pocket completely.
bunts takes the shot. the ball indeed bouncing off the cushion and narrowly missing the pocket. you and the guys erupt into laughter.
“yeah, pool shark eh? more like a goldfish in a kiddie pool.” auston says, grinning with his head steady on the tip of his stick.
bunts straightens again, “big words from the guy who didn’t wanna play against me when we came to town.”
“i wasn't feeling well dumbass” auston remarks, poking your boyfriend with his stick.
“sure…” bunts says, smiling.
willy smirks, “don’t drag us into your weak game, bunts. you’re doing just fine embarrassing yourself without our help.” you grin at his words.
“you make a great point, willy! you should listen to him michael, he did carry you in the pairs game anyways.”
michael grins, “alright, alright, keep it coming. just remember, i only let you guys talk this much ‘cause i’m nice. otherwise, you’d be crying right now.”
the boys scoff and you couldn’t help but do the same. “crying? maybe from laughing too hard.” you say, moving your empty glass to the side. your boyfriend shoots you another playful glare.
it was now auston’s shot. he began to line himself in an angle that felt the most comfortable for him as well as guaranteeing enough of a push from the cue-ball to sink. and so he does. the sweet sound of a clink and the swish of the ball falling in the pocket, also known as the sweet sound of victory.
morgan pats bunts on the back. “don’t worry, bud. not everyone is cut out for this.” the rest of the boys giggle again and bunts smiles as well. its all playful banter at the end of the day. however not everyone gets let off so easy.
once the girls from the other room call everyone to get ready to watch the ball drop, you get pulled by your waist into michael’s frame. the door closing behind the boys.
“may i help you?” you inquire with sass whilst raising an eyebrow.
his hands snake tightly around your waist, pulling you snug against him. the tips of his fingers falling low and laying at the top of your ass.
“why do you always need to give me a hard time?”
“why are you so easy to chirp?”
he gives out a low chuckle, amused by the way you always manage to keep up.
“you gon let me go?” you ask, however not eager to escape his embrace.
“not till you apologize”
you hum, “you're asking for a lot from me, big boy.” he grins again, and you can't help but reciprocate it. he grabs you tight and lifts you onto the pool table, spreading your legs with his own. your stomach flutters in anticipation.
“just because you-” you were cut off by michael’s lips against yours. god, you’ve been waiting for him to shut you up. his lips move naturally with yours, nipping at your lip to allot space for his tongue to slip in.
the more the two of you engaged in this silent conversation, the more your body felt like it was on fire. your dress suddenly too warm and too tight, heat creeping up your chest and neck as you licked into bunts mouth, tasting the alcohol on his lips. whines began to escape you whenever you would break for air. nails denting his skin, an urge for him to not continue the teasing foreplay. your dress straps have fallen down your arms, dress scrunched up, exposing your thighs.
with one last kiss, michael fell to his knees. your hands immediately go to his hair, combing your fingers through his strands and tugging the more you feel his breath hover over your core. he looks up at you, his stupidly soft eyes asking for permission. his nose so close to your clit, breathing in your scent, his lips kissing the wet patch on your cotton fabric. “got you wet already huh?”
“god, please” you beg, feet on his shoulders, his fingers rolling down your panty, shoving it in his back pocket to keep it safe and sound. michael’s hands grab the skin on your thighs to hold them far apart, his head slotting in between.
bunts began agonisingly slow, tongue licking stripes up and down your folds, then licking circles around your needy clit. you were whining, pleading for him to hurry up but you figured you deserve the punishment. “you taste so good baby, all wet for me” you give out a huff.
“want more?” he asks, “is my baby needy?” the tone is playfully mocking you, which makes you smile internally. however, externally, his nose bumped into your hole so perfectly your face scrunched and your moan was your only answer.
he took that as his answer, two of his fingers slipping into your entrance and instantly feeling your pussy constrict around him—that was enough of a confirmation. his mouth sucks and nibbles on your cunt, releasing it when a pop before latching himself around it again. his digits moving in and out at such a speed, it was all, so much and yet just what you wanted.
your heels dug into michael’s shoulders and back, you grabbed a striped ball that was near you on the table, your fingers tight around it. really just looking for anything to ground you, the wash of euphoria beginning to overcome you. he gave you praises but they were lost in the air, your ears only hearing the noise coming out of your arched body.
you soaked his fingers, before he pulled them out to replace it with his tongue probing your entrance. he licked you clean and made sure to suck on your clit just a bit more gifting him with a whimper and a kick from your foot, the fresh sting of overstimulation evident.
bunts brings his fingers to your mouth, he taps your chin bringing your attention back to him, making you open your mouth. your tongue swirled around them, making sure you suck them clean. the taste of yourself giving you a buzz. bunts smiles, pulling you closer to the edge, you can feel his bulge against your thigh. you palm it, hand rubbing over the fabric of his pants. he lets out a low moan, grabbing your waist and enveloping his lips with yours.
“is this what you wanted all along? to fuck you here on this table? in mitchy’s place? everyone outside that door, capable of coming in at any moment?” there’s a dark shine in his eyes that matches the glossy layer of your juices smeared all over his lips and chin, the small droplets evident in his small scruff.
“maybe” you say, your fingers tugging at his pants, looking at him with a pair of doe eyes.
he grins again, unbuttoning his pants and taking his cock out of its constraint. he wraps your leg around him, your hand reaching to give him a few strokes, pre-cum around his pretty pink tip. he aligns himself to your entrance, and your hand reaches for his forearm while he slips in. “shit” you utter, head lolling back.
he gave a few long thrusts, indulging in the feeling of your warm wet walls wrapped around him. bunts looked down, seeing the way his cock is covered in your slick every time he slips out of you, you felt him twitch inside you.
“i nearly ruined them,” he grumbles, sucking a bruise into the soft skin of your neck. your foggy brain remembers how this started.
he smirks—its bait, hes trying to reel a remark out of you but hes also making it too hard to do so. not with the way his cock is balls deep inside you on a pool table in his teammates house, a room yet still clearly decorated by his wife. you still manage to scoff, so he decides to mock you some more. “what, too fucked to run your mouth anymore? yeah kind of like you better this way, don't you think?”
you would have continued with your bratty little comments, but, right now, you’re too focused on the feeling of his rough hand pressing circles on your enlarged clit. too focused on the wet of his mouth spreading over your breasts, his teeth running over you ever so gently, forcing you to whine back.
“i’m gonna ruin you though, that's for sure” he says with a smile as you fall back to lay down on the pool table, pushing your hips forwards with a hearty thrust. then another. and then another.
you shove your hand in your mouth, not necessarily eager to have someone eavesdropping or walking in to discover the two of you. bunts tries to pull your wrist away from your face, “no baby, you were making so much noise earlier, don’t shut up now”
your entire body rocked against the table as he bucked up into you, “bunts,” you uttered breathlessly as he stretched you out at a rhythm that was both so slow yet so hard at the same time.
“oh my god, you feel so- so-…” you swung your hand above you to grip on the edge of the table, your head right beside the cue-ball, your fingers accidently pushing a stick and hearing it clink against the hardwood floor, “fuck!”
“i feel so what, huh?” he teased your blissed-out babble, “so hard? so big? so good?” his thrusts began to grow more selfish, the lewd clapping of hastily exposed skin echoing and seemingly overpowering all the other noises that vibrated throughout the house, “you like how this cock fills you up to the fucking brim, do you?”
you bite down on your lip, mumbly noises escaping you as a response. your body is on fire, the pressure in your lower belly reaching a peak. one of his hands clutches to your hips to keep you still while he fucks the light of you with unbridled passion. you can feel every inch of your body vibrating to the sound the two of you make. your breath comes out forced in short breaths. “i’m gonna— fuck!” you manage out. you’re squeezing him so hard.
you finally hear loud noise coming from deeper inside the house, thankful the group is preoccupied. its new years, you reminded yourself, your head still a foggy blur. you hear counting, but not until it's muffled by the pounding of your heart.
bunts shares that last thrust that tips you over the edge. your walls flutter and contract around his cock as you reach the top of your climax. your eyes roll back. michael follows right after, spilling all of himself inside you while you ride that tide that makes your vision blur and ears ring. thats when the two of you hear cheering and laughter radiate throughout the house. your body feels electric. michael relishing in the bliss.
your hand seeks his, and he wraps it around yours immediately, tightly. your breathing becomes steady and you begin to sit up, bringing your boyfriend closer into your frame, a more than necessary hug. he gives a low giggle into your shoulder, happy to give you a cuddle. almost yearning for your soft side after your earlier scolding.
“happy new year!” you exclaim, however your voice more quiet and raspy than you anticipated. michael’s other hand moves to your cheek, a smile plastered on the man’s face.
“happy new year, babe!” he exclaims, equally as soft and intimate. you smile back, your familiar afterglow shining all over you. bunts isn't anything but grateful at this moment. to have you to start the new year, nevertheless the way the two of you entered it. best new years eve hands down, he states to himself. even if he lost both pool games.
“i hope your first new year’s resolution is to not be such a brat” bunts mentions playfully, quirking his head to the side.
you chuckle. “but i like the way you tame me”
michael grins. “there are pros to it. but maybe lay it off around the guys?”
“that's the best part!” you say, smirking.
“you don't quit, huh?”
“yeah, i love you too”

'everything goes well, no one has any major injuries, and they can all step up in the playoffs, then the regression would be worth it and I'll eat my words."
do you think this is likely to happen? I mean the entire criticism that the team faces is that they "choke" in the playoffs and disappear in important games and while Mitch got a lot of the blame warranted or unwarranted (unwarranted!) none of the other players on the team rlly showed up in a way that I feel like you can pinpoint him as an issue in the first place so
(I've seen people say nylander showed but he's also a liability defensively if I'm not mistaken so like cost benefit)
Whats such a great difference made to the roster that will suddenly have the same players who couldn't perform last year start performing in the next playoffs if they make it?
and like I think it's quite optimistic to hope no one gets injured the whole year especially when you had games like the one you mentioned (that was insane what even)
and why are people so adamant that now he's gone ("Good riddance" lmaooooo) they're suddenly gonna get better like they say shit like now he's not gonna fuck us over in the playoffs game 5to7 and I'm just like now there's a chance you don't even make it to game 5 to 7 dude
again thanks for replying I'm learning a lot😭
no problem! I think there's a lot of intangibles that you need to work out for a team to win a cup (part of why it's the hardest pro sports trophy to win)
there are plenty of players who are sometimes decent sometimes less decent in the regular season but can step it up in the playoffs (mo, for one, brad marchand famously, for another) but a lot of the leafs' recent additions are pretty much a shot in the dark. this article was published before they got henry thrun or dakota joshua, but noted toronto fan dom luszczyszyn's "there is a gigantic mitch marner-sized hole in the leafs' forward group that remains unfilled" quote still holds true, as is his ranking of the leafs' improvement this offseason at 31 out of 32 teams in the league, only above whatever los angeles is doing (I personally think their gm is going through late stage psychosis, but that's another conversation). another athletic reporter wrote yesterday about the top six hole still not being filled and has toronto's concern-o-meter at 8/10 because of mitch's underwhelming replacements, only below the oilers, which is just about connor mcdavid's upcoming contract extension.
all things considered, it's brutal on paper. however, to be fair, the whole problem was that shanahan was too stubborn to move on from the core four idea for almost a decade, so the logic is that anything is better than what they used to have if what they used to have only got them two series wins in nine years. of course, the idea that it can't get any worse isn't entirely true (they could just not qualify for the postseason at all), but even though I love mitch I don't think losing him is going to drop the entire team from winning the atlantic division to missing the playoffs entirely lol even if they have to drag the leafs kicking and screaming into a playoff spot, I think auston, willy, john, and knies could do it. yes, the issue remains that they don't know if they'll actually perform once they get there, but all you can do is just try and see what happens.
as for injuries, I really think what happened last november was honestly a freak accident and they just got unlucky. it isn't strictly no one on the roster getting injured, it's more not having your 69 goal scoring newly appointed captain mysteriously injure himself before the season even starts to the point where it affects his performance the entire year, on top of half the roster being out at the same time. and to be honest what happened wasn't even the worst case scenario. the leafs, for the most part, stayed pretty healthy throughout the playoffs this year, minus the one big thing with stolarz getting concussed, but the fact that we have such a good tandem made that loss pretty marginal. just look at the devils lol they all got injured in like march/april and only barely avoided getting swept by carolina in the playoffs because they literally lost two of their centers and like their entire d core. it did get a little sketchy for us towards the end of the regular season where they were missing so many defensemen mitch had to play d but it was a vast improvement from the previous year where in just one playoff series auston and willy both missed at least three games each and mitch had to play the whole series with basically one working foot because he had to rush to come back from that high ankle sprain.

finally watched end of season availability. some cute things, course. auston snapping at them that it's his right to keep his medical info to himself, as he should. kniesy snapping that he just answered that he wants to stay here. willy reminding the media several times that we lost to the cup champs in game 7, and that that is a good run.
i hate how much listening to mitch sounds like he wants to cry. i hate how it sounds in everyones answers that it sounds like he's leaving. mo especially sounds so upset. kniesy also clearly not loving the idea of mitch being gone. only halfway through the full video.
need to disappear into the woods for a week.

(serious question) Back in 2018/2019, do you think any of the young core leafs (Mo, Mitch, Auston, Willy) felt snubbed by John becoming captain? Was there any chance it could have gone to someone else?
I think they were seriously considering giving it to Auston, but then he got arrested and they (correctly) realized that that was going to be very bad PR if they gave it to him after that. I also think that a rumour spread that part of Mitch's contract negotiations allegedly involved his camp campaigning for a letter? But I don't think there was a serious feeling of Being Snubbed, unless of course you count Paul Marner's feelings on the matter

peanut cheered every time quinn, willy or auston hit the ice
she was so loud all night- almost lost her voice. she was so excited to see them. at first she was a little embarrassed, but as they got better, her cheers grew even louder. she spent a lot of time with them on the ice, but occasionally migrated to uncle mo, uncle mitchy, and uncle jack on the bench. she sat with brady for a little bit, and then wanted to try the obstacle course.
she also shot on demko and he let her get the goal.

Hey so i need to get this off my chest, i actually had a dream about carson etc and it was carson was feeling sick and so she handed mia off to willy and he had a press interview (ps in Sweden) so he was just holding her doing the interview and a reporter asked about his contract and maybe leaving the team and mia just said no her willys not leaving and held him tighter!!!
Omg stop the way I saw “I need to get this off my chest” and immediately got stressed 🤣 no reason to be after reading the rest of your message hahaha. But please ugh ok like maybe Auston’s off doing something else and Carson’s waiting with Mia for him and Willy is nearby talking with them and just an intense wave of nausea hits Carson and Willy sees that she physically pales and asks if she’s ok and she tries to play it off but she can’t so she asks Willy if he can watch Mia for a moment, which he has no issue doing. He tells her “of course” and then kinda just watches as Carson rushes away to get to the nearest washroom because she’s gonna be sick and like that has Willy a little bit like 🤨 cause clearly something is up and he wonders of Auston knows especially with how she tried to play it off so much. Anyways, he doesn’t ask questions. He’s just happy to help and so he’s chatting with Mia as he holds her and then someone comes along and tells him that they need him to do media asap. And Willy is like “ok ok but can it wait a minute? Carson needed me to watch Mia” and he’s told it can’t wait. So he doesn’t know what to do and asks if anyone knows where Auston or even Mitch, JT or Mo are because taking Mia to media with him doesn’t even cross his mind especially because he knows that Carson and Auston very much so keep Mia’s life private for her and like don’t even post her on social media unless her face isn’t showing or she’s with them or a trusted family member/friend and ofc Willy respects that. So he panics a little bit because he can’t leave Mia with just anyone but none of her guys are near and she’s clung right to him. The person that tells Willy he needs to do media says they can watch Mia but Mia does not want to leave Willy and says “no Wiwee” then hides her face against him and he just doesn’t have it in him to hand her over when she clearly doesn’t want to go and it’s obvious out of everyone around, she’s most comfortable with him. And so he takes a breath and realizes his last option is to take her with him and so he looks down at Mia and says “I really hope your parents don’t hate me for this” then heads to media with her. Mia’s so good during it too, mainly because she gets shy, but when Willy sits down she just stays cuddled against him and quietly observes her surroundings. Naturally, media addresses that not only does he have a child with him, but that he has Auston’s child with him lmaooo and Willy explains the situation that he was watching Mia and couldn’t leave her alone when he was rushed to do media then says “but that’s alright, I don’t mind. You ok, Mia?” And Mia just nods and fiddles with his sweater. She’s not super chatty because she’s a bit unsure of all these people in front of her and Willy but she doesn’t fuss or anything either. Then eventually someone talks about Willy’s contract and how he’s made some meaningful connections in Toronto, they can see that Mia is one of them, and just how he’d feel to leave it behind if contract conversations went south. And Willy starts with saying how much he loves Toronto and the team and the people he has there and then Mia interrupts saying “Wiwee no go” and just snuggles even closer to him and it has Willy SO alarmed because it pulls on the heartstrings so much and he just gives Mia a little squeeze then says how he’s really hoping to find a common ground regarding his contract and he’s just very levelheaded and mature about it. And soon after, he’s done answering questions. By the time he’s away from media, both Carson and Auston are back and Willy immediately apologizes but they cut him off saying they’re not mad, they were brought up to speed on what happened and appreciated the way he still put Mia first in it all and poor Carson feels so bad that he even got put in that situation because she was gonna be sick but Willy assures her that he didn’t mind at all

eloping with morgan rielly like right before the season starts and only telling very close family and friends and he just shows up to training camp with a ring on his left hand and waits for the boys to catch on
haha oh I love this idea! And I have thoughts:
Maybe it's because he's a pretty chilled laidback guy. Maybe it's because he gets enough press/public attention in his day job. Maybe it's partially to play a bit of a prank on the team. But I could definitely see Mo eloping and keeping things very close to the chest. Like, Gards knows, maybe even Soupy, but neither of them are on the team anymore (*sob*) so it's pretty easier to get them to agree to stay quiet.
Besides, he seems like the kind of guy who would like a small secluded wedding. A tiny little chapel in Vegas - maybe just both your parents, grandparents and a friend each to act as maid of honour and best man, and that's literally it. Well, and Maggie of course, Mo has to have his dog there (duh).
All wedding documentation processed quietly and efficiently, all photos taken promised to be kept quiet until the season starts, just a sweet special moment for the two of you.
And then down to a tiny beach house in Cali for your honeymoon, a week of quiet bliss and walks on the sand and not leaving your bed other than to eat. Perfection. Mo is such a big part of the Leafs and you love that of course, but it does mean sharing his attention with the team and the world a LOT, so this time is just yours and you cherish it.
Mo would definitely love saying 'my wife' and calling you Mrs Rielly, I can feel it. He'd get that sweet little smile, looking so pleased with himself, and he'd be even more affectionate that usual.
And when it's finally time to get back to training with the team, he still wouldn't say anything to them. Definitely leaning towards a prank vibe; maybe the two of you thought it would be funny to see who would actually notice the ring on his left hand.
Psst, it's Mitch. Just as everyone is about to get on the ice, when Mo is about to put his gloves on.
("Mo wtf" "when?!" "why didn't you tell us?" "why didn't you invite us?" "why so secretive?")
Sure, the team is late out onto the ice but it's worth it for the happiness Mo would feel. He would've enjoyed keeping things private and to himself, definitely, but the joy and congratulations he's feeling right now? He loves it. He married you, and he wants the whole world to know.
He will give you a heads up about Mitch and Auston planning a wedding party as soon as he finishes practice though.

Needed Hugs ~ Morgan Rielly
Happy Monday! I hope you enjoy!
Request/ Summary: Request “I need a hug. Just a hug from a big, tall, strong hockey player who smells really good after he gets out of the shower” with Morgan Rielly
Master List
Tumblr media
You were tired; spent from a week that seemed to have appeared from hell itself. Nothing went right at work; your parents were arguing over what car to get and somehow you had found yourself in the middle of it; and your best friend was moving out of Toronto. You didn’t want to deal with anyone when you got home from work on Friday, just curl up in a ball on your couch in silence. Of course your boyfriend could be there, he could be a quiet person at times too. He always knew how to cheer you up, even if that just meant sitting next to you on the couch and letting you absentmindedly scroll through the channels till you found something that would make you laugh. Morgan was a good man.
With your best friend leaving though, she wanted to get your group from college together and go out for one last hurray in Toronto. You obliged her, knowing you were going to miss your bi-weekly brunches and impromptu ice cream or coffee runs. So Friday night when you got home to your shared apartment with Morgan, you went to shower and get ready. Walking out of your room, you heard multiple voices coming from down the hall along with what seemed to be a basketball game on tv in the background. “Hey guys,” you greeted Auston, Mitch, Will and Freddie. There was a chorus of hellos and a ‘looking good’ from Will. Morgan smacked the younger man upside the head as you rolled your eyes playfully. Walking over to you, Mo wrapped his arms around your waist and pulled you into him. “Do I have to go,” you muttered after giving him a quick kiss.
“She’s your best friend. You’ll hate yourself if you don’t,” Morgan reasoned with you, and sometimes you just hated his level-headedness.
“Fine,” you pouted, and Morgan gave you another kiss.
“Call me if you need me. I’ll come pick you up if you really don’t want to be there,” he said and you nodded. Turning around, you did not miss the slight tap to your butt. You quickly turned on him and glared. “What, you do look good,” he shrugged and you couldn’t help but laugh.
“Bite me,” you stuck your tongue out at him.
“Maybe later,” he whispered with a wink and you blushed, shaking your head and walking out the door.
Your night out with college friends quickly turned into the same dynamic that every night out in college turned onto. You had lost Savanna to a relatively attractive guy after only an hour. Tara and Des were drinking like no one’s business, and you were pretty sure Kayla was about to reenact the bar scene from Coyote Ugly. This left you and Brittany as the responsible ones to wrangle all the girls, like usual. “Was this everything you wanted for your last night out?” you asked Britt, slightly tipsy yourself and she giggled with you.
“I don’t know how much I’ll miss them, but I’m going to miss you,” she said, tears starting to fall.
“No, we don’t cry in bars!” you exclaimed, pulling her into a hug. “I’m going to miss you too though. Who else is going to listen to me complain about life in general and agree with me?”
“That loving boyfriend of yours,” Britt said, smiling at you.
“Yeah, but he’ll try to make it better, not just let me sulk in it,” you giggled.
“That’s why he’s good for you. He wants to fix things to make you happy,” she said and you smiled.
“He is a good one.”
~ ~ ~
You ended up spending the night at Britt’s, helping her finish pack her car in the morning and seeing her off. It wasn’t like you would never see her again, but she was moving 4 hours away so it would definitely be less frequent. As you entered your apartment, the silence made you sad this time. Mo was at morning practice, so you showered and put on some comfy clothes, dragging a blanket to the couch and wrapping it around yourself.
When Mo got home, he dropped his bag by the front door upon seeing you all curled up on the couch. He walked over to you and sat on the edge of the couch. “Hung over or sad?” he asked softly. You sat up and Morgan couldn’t help but smile at you adoringly. Even though you had a sad, pouty look on your face with your blanket over your head and wrapped around you, he still thought you looked just as beautiful as you did the night before.
“Sad. Britt left this morning,” you pouted and Morgan nodded.
“Can I do anything to help? We could go get brunch and I’ll pretend your telling me the most scandalous news,” Mo offered and you smiled gently, laughing half-heartedly.
“It’s okay,” you said.
“Then what can I do?” he asked, and you shrugged.
“I need a hug. Just a hug from a big, tall, strong hockey player who smells really good after he gets out of the shower,” you said, opening your arms so your blanket burrito could envelope Mo as well. Morgan smiled at you and easily brought you over to him so he was leaning back on the couch with you in his lap.
“I can easily do that,” he muttered into your hair, kissing your forehead and wrapping his arms tightly around you. It was easy to feel safe and secure in Morgan’s embrace. And though now your friend was miles away, you knew you would always have Morgan to pick you up when you were down.

covetous - f.andersen
Author’s Notes: Hiya, someone requested I rewrite Covetous but with the other ending I had planned & it didn’t take much thought to realize I wanted it to happen. So, here it is! (it will be multi-part) Hope you enjoy !
Tumblr media
Fred didn’t want you to meet his teammates.
Which, yenno, hurt, considering you’ve been dating for about a year now.
Yeah, I know. A whole ass year.
But standing here, in Auston’s kitchen, with Freddie’s arm on your side and Auston’s back retreating from the room, you realize why he’s been putting it off.
OR
The one where Auston tries to steal Freddie’s girl.
The day started off great, you and Freddie got up and had breakfast together and you made plans to go to a few shops downtown and try to get some summer clothes, but while Freddie was in the shower he got a message from the group chat that he and the boys were in, knowing he wouldn’t mind, you check it.
Johnny T: hey guys, don’t forget we have the team dinner today at 1, and I want everyone to be there, it’s our last one before the season ends.
Mo: got it.
Kappy: yeah yeah we know
Marns: hey fredster, this time bring your girl, Steph keeps bugging me to meet her
Willy: yeah Fred, what’re you hiding anyway?
Kappy: her, obviously
Johnny T: the invite includes her too Freddie, like always
So, it’s not just you. You think and put his phone down.
You walk into the bathroom and start to get ready, and once you’re almost done with your makeup, Freddie shuts the water off, stepping out of the shower and giving you a smile.
He comes up and wraps a towel around his waist, reaching for his toothbrush and you finish applying your lip gloss then question him, “How come you didn’t tell me there was a team dinner today?” He furrows his eyebrows, “How’d you find out?” You shrug, “Your phone kept going off, I thought it was important, but it was just the group chat.” Fred spits out the toothpaste and sighs, “I just didn’t think you would want to go, we made plans already.” You huff and make your way back to the bedroom, “How come you’re so against me meeting everyone? By the looks of the group chat, you’re the only one who doesn’t want it to happen.”
Freddie finished brushing his teeth and walked out of the bathroom, “I don’t mean to be elsker, I just, don’t know.” You stand up and hand him his phone, “It’s been long enough Fred, I want to meet them.”
You walk into your closet and change your clothes, opting for a pair of jean shorts and a nice white flounce sleeve shirt, tucking that in and putting on a belt. You try to decide which shoes to wear and go for your black and white plaid heeled ankle boots. Looking at yourself in the mirror, you walk back out and tell Freddie you’ll wait for him downstairs, grabbing your purse and leaving the bedroom.
Freddie sighs and looks at his phone.
5 new messages.
Marns: C’mon big unit, you can’t read our messages and just not reply
Mo: we didn’t mean to offend you, we just want to meet her
Kappy: some more than others...👀
Auston: shut up kappy
Johnny T: enough guys, this is why he doesn’t want to bring her.
Freddie frowns at his teammate’s messages, debating on actually going or not. He thinks about what could happen and he thinks of you, when he thinks of you, he feels ridiculous, you’re his girlfriend, he’ll be introducing you as his girlfriend, everyone knows you’re his, and you always remind him you’re his. You love him, nothing will happen.
Glancing down at his phone once more, he types out his reply, going into the closet to change.
Big Red: We’ll be there, no funny business.
Three hours later and a couple shopping bags in the back and you’re on your way to John and Aryne’s house to finally meet the team and their SO’s. You’re a little nervous but from the messages you’ve seen this morning, at least you know that they want to meet you too. You take Freddie’s hand in yours and he brings it to your mouth to place a kiss on top. You smile fondly, “I love you Freddie.” He glances at you and smiles back, “I love you too dronning.”
Little did you know how much your words reassured him.
“Fred’s here!” You both heard from the other side of the door, waiting for someone to open it. You huff a laugh and Freddie shakes his head, “They’re a little chaotic.” You nod, giggling, “Good to know.”
The door opens and Aryne comes into view, greeting you both with a smile, “Hey Fred, this must be Y/N! I’m Aryne, it’s very lovely to finally meet you.” She pulls you in for a hug and you smile, “It’s so nice to meet you too.” She steps to the side and lets you both in, and you look up to see almost everyone standing in the living room, ready to introduce themselves. Fred leads you into the room and you’re pulled in for many hugs, and handshakes from his teammates and their girlfriends/wives.
Steph, Aryne, and Audrey pull you away and you all grab some wine and they start getting to know you. Freddie gets pulled in conversation with some of the boys and soon enough you both end up spending at least an hour without each other.
You’re out of wine then and ask where you can get some more, and Steph perks up, “Oh in the kitchen, I’ll come with you.” You nod and slip away from the circle and you both end up chatting a little bit by the island.
“So yeah, we all were wondering when we would finally see you at one of these things, us girls are already planning girls days we can have, oh and since we finally have your number and social media, we can officially add you to our group chat.” She chats and you nod, “I’ve been wondering too, and I’ve been bugging Freddie for the past few months, I’m glad I got to come, you all are very sweet and welcomed me pretty quickly.” She waves her hand, “Of course, you’re pretty much like family now.”
“Hey Steph, Mitch was looking for you.” You hear someone say and you both turn your heads to see Auston, “Don’t worry, I think I can manage to keep her company until you come back.” Steph nods and says a quick, “Be right back” as she leaves the room.
You smile at Auston and he smiles back, “We hadn’t gotten the chance to talk after meeting, and I’ve been meaning to compliment your shoes.” You look down and back up, “Thanks, I wasn’t sure of them because of the occasion but decided that they make a great first impression.” Auston nods, “I agree, and besides, with fashion, you can never go wrong.” You shoot him a smile and nod, “Yeah, go big or go home, right?” He laughs, “Exactly.”
You stand there for a second and he speaks, “So, Fred tells me you went shopping today?” And that’s how you got caught up in a twenty-minute conversation about bold fashion choices and overly expensive clothing.
Freddie was almost done telling John about his and your offseason plans when he notices you’re not with the girls anymore. Shaking it off, he finishes his story and makes an excuse about needing another beer. John lets him go, pulling Willy into conversation.
Fred checks his watch and widens his eyes at the fact that he hasn’t seen you in almost two hours after you’ve arrived. Going up to Aryne and Audrey, he asks, “Do you guys know where Y/N is?” Audrey speaks, “Yeah, her and Steph are in the kitchen.” He nods and kind of calms, making his way into the kitchen, but when he sees you’re definitely not with Steph and with someone he wanted you to steer clear from, his heart rate picks up again and he squares his shoulders as he walks up to you and Auston.
You’re telling Auston that you were planning on going to the mall with one of the girls when you feel an arm around your waist, pulling you into their side. You turn away from Auston and smile when you see that it’s Freddie, “Hi bubba.” Fred smiles, “Hey min elskede, whatcha been up to?” You gesture to Auston, “I was just going to ask Auston which one of the girls would want to accompany me to the mall tomorrow, you know, since you’ll be in that little meeting thing with Sheldon and Kyle.”
Auston doesn’t even wait for Freddie to say anything, taking up the opportunity, “Actually, funnily enough I was planning on going to the mall tomorrow myself, maybe I can accompany you.” You tilt your head slightly to the side, “Oh okay, that’d be fun, and maybe you can give me fashion advice.”
You’re only joking, making friendly conversation and the seriousness in Auston’s voice catches you off guard, “Trust me, you won’t need it. You’ll look good in everything.” You laugh awkwardly and Freddie clears his throat, “Well in that case, I’m sure she won’t need you to go with her if she knows what she’s doing.” You look up at Freddie and his face is set in a harsh glare toward Auston, and when you look at Auston you notice he’s smirking.
After another beat of awkward silence, you clear your throat and decide to speak up, “I’m sure Steph wouldn’t mind coming with me, I’ll just ask her.” Your words seem to knock the two men out of their silent brooding toward each other and they both look down at you, Freddie seeming relieved and Auston looking dejected, “Oh I see, maybe next time then.” You curtly nod, shooting one smaller smile and he turns away.
As you’re watching his back retreat from you and Freddie, you evaluate their actions in your head and suddenly it’s like a light bulb going off in your head, “Fred…is this why you didn’t want to bring me to these things?” Freddie sighs and takes your hand, leading you into the hallway, away from everyone.
“Listen min elskede, it’s not that I was ashamed of you, or that I wasn’t serious about this or anything, I’ve put it off because I didn’t want you to meet him. Somehow, when we first got together and I told the boys about you, they found your Instagram. When Auston saw your photos he immediately thought you were beautiful, well I mean who wouldn’t, but anyway, I just didn’t want him to pull anything and I thought I would be safe tonight, guess not.”
Your face falls at the sadness in his eyes and his tone, reaching up to place your hand on his cheek, “Freddie, no matter what he does, what he says, I’m yours. Yours. I only accepted his offer to the mall because I thought he was being friendly. If it means that much, I won’t go.” Fred nods and sighs, “Maybe I am being too dramatic, and I know you two wouldn’t do anything. If you really want to, you can go with him. I’m not about to be one of those guys that doesn’t allow their girlfriends to do anything.”
You blow air from your nose, “If it makes you uncomfortable, and you know you can’t trust someone, then you can tell me if you don’t want me to go with them anywhere, it’s not being controlling, it’s being mindful of the situation.” You explain to him and it gets him thinking.
Can he trust Auston? Can he trust that he won’t try anything? He knows he trusts you; you hadn’t given him any reason not to, and the more he thinks about it, Auston hasn’t given him a reason not to either, maybe he’s just giving him a hard time. Auston could just be teasing him for making the boys wait for so long. They’re teammates, he wouldn’t do anything to jeopardize the team.
So, with that last thought in his head, he looks down at you and kisses your forehead, smiling softly, “If you want to, you can.”
You smile at him, “Are you sure?” Fred nods, “I’m sure min elskede.”
Hearing his words, you reach up and place a kiss to his lips, “Thank you Freddie.” He hums, “No need to thank me.”
And just like before when he saw you talking to Auston earlier, as you both walk back to the living room, he catches Auston’s eye, who breaks it momentarily to rake over your body, before returning to Freddie’s eyes and winking, his heart rate picks up and he’s glaring back at Auston.
and once again, he’s rethinking his previous words.

bee and tyler’s phone call when he gets traded to edmonton
a one shot.  after chapter 40.
February 24th, 2020
“Bee, you’ll have the Jones portfolio finished by Friday, right?” Mark Travers asked as he popped his head quickly into Bee’s office.
“Of course,” she said, barely looking up from her computer screen.  “You know I’m good for it, Mark.  We’ll rock that presentation Friday.  There’s no way they’ll move their portfolio away from us.  I’ve made them fifty grand alone in the past year.”
“That’s the confidence I like to hear, Bee!” Mark exclaimed as he shut the door.  Bee could hear the muffled sound of him talking to someone else – she assumed one of her colleagues – before she focused back on her spreadsheet.
Although that didn’t last for long.  Her phone began to ring – not her work phone, her cell phone – which piqued her interest.  Friends usually didn’t call her on her phone during work hours; they knew how busy she was, so they usually just left texts.  As she grabbed it from the other side of her desk, she saw Tyler’s name and the obnoxious picture they took of themselves that he’d made his caller ID photo.
“Hello?”
“Hey sweetcheeks.  How are you?”
“I’m good…”
“Are you at work?”
“Of course.”
“Sorry I’m bothering you.”
“You never bother me,” she said.  “What’s up?”
“Uh…so listen.  I just got off the phone with a couple of people, the most recent being my mom.  And as the only other important woman in my life…”
Bee’s body stiffened.  The last time he started something with that, he was telling her he was leaving Toronto to sign with Ottawa.  “Tyler…”
“I got traded, sweetcheeks.  Ottawa traded me.”
Bee’s heart fell into the pit of her stomach.  She was going to vomit all over her desk and all over the important files she was working on.  To think that he barely spent a full season in Ottawa.  He’d given it his all.  He went into a shitty team in a shitty situation and made the best of it as much as he could.  Would she still be able to visit him?  Would she still be able to drive in four hours and see him?  Probably not.  Her chest tightened.  “To where, Tyler?”
“That’s just it, Bee,” he said, a hint of joyful aspiration in her voice.  She held her breath.  “To Edmonton.”
Bee almost dropped her phone.  “Edmonton?!”
“Edmonton, sweetcheeks.”
“Edmo…Tyler…you…you get to go home.”
“I know…I know!” he exclaimed, finally letting the emotion in his voice show.  It was like he couldn’t control it now that it was out in the open.  “I get to go home!  I get to…I get to live in my condo all year instead of the summer!  I get to see my folks and my brother more often now!  Within two years I’ve played on teams with Auston Matthews and Connor McDavid but…I…it’s…Bee, I’m going home.”
Bee’s emotions got the best of her as she listened to the excitement in Tyler’s voice.  She felt a tear fall down her cheek and she wiped it away quickly.  This meant they’d be separated even more.  This meant he was in a completely different division – hell, an entirely different conference.  But he was home.  And what else could anybody ever want beside home?  “Tyler…I am so happy for you,” her voice was shaky.
“I know we’ll be further away from each other – but just think!  Anytime the boys have to do a west coast road trip you can tag along!  Hell, you stay over!  I’ll have those Egyptian cotton sheets for Mo!”
Already making plans.  Just like best friends did.

ooh thanks for replying!
how do you are the leafs gonna adjust their lines/fare wo mitch
he put up a huge amount of points and assists especially and was incredibly integral especially when auston injured
they didn't acquire too much from the now freed cap space and if they need to trade for players who would they trade for?
also do you have another blog where you do get to post more technical stuff because I rlly appreciate it a lot👀
of course! I don't have any other hockey blog lol I just don't get the chance to talk about technical stuff unprompted on here unless I find some article or clip that I want to share but I love answering questions like this don't worry
the gist of the leafs' problem is that they still need a top six winger. it's the issue they went into the offseason with when it became clear that mitch was leaving, and I'm pretty sure it's what they were hoping to address in free agency considering the best thing that they got out of the sign and trade was the freed up around $8m in cap space. obviously that didn't work out because most higher profile wingers ended up resigning with their teams (marchand, boeser, kane), were drawn to other teams for whatever reason (ehlers, granlund), or maybe didn't want to play in a canadian market at all (drouin). basically everyone else on the free agency list was bottom six/depth level (benn, perry, brown, roslovic, and the first three have all already signed elsewhere by now). at that point it's better and easier to just trade for a depth winger at some point than jump the gun and waste cap space overpaying for one in free agency (the leafs have done well to acquire maccelli and joshua).
but do note, none of this addresses the actual problem they started with, and now they only have around $2.9m left to work with. keep in mind, pacioretty might still decide to do one more year and nick robertson is going to arbitration, which basically means the leafs have until august 3rd to settle or august 5th to buy him out. either way, it's going to use up more of the marginal amount of money they have left. trading reaves was a step in the right direction, and they can still move on from some other bad contracts like kampf, jarnkrok, or even domi (mo's contract.... exists.. but he has a full nmc and I don't see him agreeing to waive it any time soon so there's nothing really they can do there), but right now with the market being the way it is, the best way (probably the only way at this point) that they'd be able to acquire a top six winger is through a trade. that has its own problems, but I'll get back to that.
in regards to mitch's production, you're right that he's going to be near impossible to replace. it's not just that he's a top six winger and left a gaping hole for them to fill. we know he had 102 points and 75 assists, both career highs, but he's also one of the best playmakers and has insane hockey iq and vision. he's a selke finalist, 2x all-star, he was legitimately the third best right winger in the league this past season (and his team made it farther in the playoffs this year than #1 and #2!), and he's the reason toronto's 5f power play could work in the first place. he's led the leafs in points in over half the seasons and assists in every season out of his nine year tenure, including his rookie year. just for the 2024-25 season he placed in the top five for all of these stats, in the league he was third in takeaways on a list with only one other forward in the top 10, fifth in average time on ice, led the team in power play points, shorthanded points, was second in power play time on ice, second in net penalties, led the leafs forwards in shorthanded time on ice by a large margin, goal differential, and compared to the other league points leaders he's relied on so much more in defensive zone faceoffs, on the penalty kill, and to go up against other teams' top lines. I could go on, and on, and on, and on, and on.
and it's not just about him stepping up when auston alone was out. there was a period of time this past season where the leafs had so many injuries and mitch and willy were basically the only ones consistently there that half the team was ahlers. I'm not even kidding there was some game in like late november where bobby mcmann got injured and we were scared willy would be suspended for high sticking and the mock top six lineup for the next game was looking something like
nick robertson - pontus holmberg - mitch marner
connor dewar - john tavares - nikita grebenkin
like it was bad....
anyways, you kind of have to accept at this point that they're not going to be able to trade for a player at the level of mitch and that anything they aim for is going to be a downgrade if you look at the stats one to one (treliving knows, no trust me, he knows), which is why so far they've pivoted to strengthening their depth. but even then, if they try and trade for a lower tier (but still top six) winger, their options are limited. the leafs' next first round pick is in 2028. their only remaining maybe nhl ready prospect that has a potentially decent ceiling is easton cowan. no team is going to accept a package of kampf, jarnkrok, a prospect, and a pick for the likes of jason robertson. what about another tier lower then? jordan kyrou for cowan, nick robertson, and a first? I doubt it lol. bryan rust for domi, nick robertson, a first, and a third might work, but in my opinion it's only because the penguins seem to be the only team selling right now. it's difficult to say who they'll end up with, but there are a lot of theories floating around, some more reliable than others lol
in the case that they don't think a trade is worth it right now, they might pivot. if they put off trading until midseason or if they decide what they currently have is decent enough then I guess maccelli or domi (who's played with auston before) will be our new first line winger. if that's the case, it's not the end of the world. we have honestly been pretty spoiled by the matthews-marner top line pairing. plenty of other teams don't have a first line that stacked, especially with the exponential growth knies has and will continue to have. but mitch just does too much at both ends of the ice and berube basically uses him as a catchall to fix whatever's going on out there (look at mitch's ice time whenever it's a close game but the leafs are trailing lol he'll be playing 25-29 minutes a night it's crazy), so I just don't really see a way where the team doesn't regress, at least in the regular season. if everything goes well, no one has any major injuries, and they can all step up in the playoffs, then the regression would be worth it and I'll eat my words. after all, the whole point of moving on from the core four was to try something different to be able to go deeper in the playoffs. there's just going to be some uncertainty because you're essentially banking on a lot of the players on the team having up years and our goaltending tandem continuing to overperform.

Ice Cold~ Part 18
A/N: YOU GUYS I’M SO SORRY. Between a pregnancy scare, a breakup, a friend getting back into hard drugs, work, and the endless pit of despair I have fallen into for the past month writing kind of went to the back burner for a bit. But I am here with another part. It’s getting kind of juicy. I am aiming to be done by 30 parts. I have 19 already in the works and I should be posting more regularly again.
With all that said, I hope you enjoy.
"Mitch come look at this!" I called out to the mostly empty house. Everyone was out doing their own thing today except me and Mitch.
I was sitting on the ground outside of the house. I spent a lot of time out here. Especially since I became pregnant a few months ago. We were going on 17 weeks. Or maybe it was especially since I turned. I had always loved nature and felt connected to it but especially so now. I had been practicing a lot with the leaves. I hadn't shown anyone yet. I had finally gotten to a point that I wanted to share.
"What's up?" Mitch asked in front of me in probably a second since I called. "Is everything okay?"
"Yeah for sure! I want to show you something cool I've been practicing."
"Well damn okay let's see it."
"Okay hang on, I have to concentrate a little."
I took a deep breath and raised my hands. The leaves lifted from the ground like magic and danced all around where my fingers moved. I had shocked Mitch into complete silence. Something that didn't happen often. I decided to push myself a little bit more and try to move them around. I got them to go to the side and up a little before they fell.
"I still need to practice."
"What the fuck just happened?! How have you kept this from me?" He asked in shock.
"You've been so wrapped up in your little Auston world that you haven't been in my head much I guess. What do you think though?"
"It's super cool. Can you move anything else?"
"No me and Tessa tried. I don't think it's moving the object. Like look, when I lift just one it doesn't just levitate up right?" I showed him the leaf fluttering up. "I think it has to do with the wind. Or the air I guess."
"I guess it's possible."
"I can feel the wind Mitchy. William said that's not normal and that I couldn't possibly but I do. It feels like vibration in my veins."
"Maybe you can control the elements." He teased, laughing afterwards.
"You know what.." I whispered getting up.
"(Y/n) I was joking." He said following behind me.
"Well maybe there's something to that! You never know unless you try right?"
"This is crazy!" He yelled running after me.
"I don't care."
"Where are we going?"
"I'm going to some water!" We ran until we found a little creek.
"What now genius? It took you so long to do the leaf thing by the thoughts of it I see."
"I don't know I'm just going to try some stuff." I shrugged and sat beside the water. I felt the buzzing again and stuck my hand in the water. When I brought it out the water was sticking to my hand in columns of still water from my fingertips.
"What the fuck?"
"This was much easier than the leaves." I said dropping the water. I concentrated really hard on one spot in the water trying to displace it. All I could do was make small waves though.
"Maybe not so easy."
"Maybe not. I'll have to practice that too. Oh well I have plenty of time for that."
"Have you told Will yet? He'd love this. He already thinks you're the most talented person. He might be jealous though, his gift isn't that great he doesn't think."
"Well it saved my life so I can't say I feel the same. Maybe I'll tell him later, he's kind of mad at me right now." I tried to create ripples in the water again as we talked.
"Because you want to put people in danger."
"No one is in danger Mitchell. I've been back to work and I've been fine. I got overwhelmed the first day but I just didn't breathe and was fine. You've seen. Heard. Whatever. You know how I've been downtown. I'm not going to hurt anybody."
"There's always a chance (y/n). I made mistakes all the time when I was new that I never expected to make. It caught everyone off guard."
"It's not like I'm going alone! William will be there. If he gets even a tiny bit worried he'll stop me. I can't just ditch my best friend forever I've been making excuses for months."
"I understand, we're just worried that you're going to have an accident and hurt them. What would you do if you accidentally killed your bestfriend or their boyfriend?"
"I'll never have to know because nothing will happen!" I exclaimed in frustration throwing my hands down aggressively. When I did the water splashed out as if a rock had been thrown in. "Oops."
"So anger is a trigger..good to know. We should uh, start heading back."
"Yeah probably. William will be back anytime now."
When we got back to the house William was waiting in the car. I could tell he was cranky but I just couldn't bring myself to care. I waved bye to Mitch and got in the car. Without a word we started driving. It was a completely silent ride. We went upstairs to the apartment and met up with Kappy.
"How's my favourite couple?" He joked.
"Just dandy." William said sarcastically. I rolled my eyes and brought the groceries to the kitchen, dropping them a little too loud on the counter.
"Okay a fight has happened?" He asked William in the living room
"Not yet." Will said.
"If you'd stop acting like a fucking child and my dad at the same time we'd be fine!" I yelled.
"There it is." He sighed.
"No. No 'there it is' as if you haven't been an ass the past few days and don't deserve the anger." I said stomping into the room. "No 'there it is' as if I'm just a crazy person. No. Because I'm not."
"Alright (y/n) calm down, what's the problem?" Kasperi asked softly.
"He's been mad for the past 3 days because of this night. Because I want to see my best friend."
"You see her."
"Yeah at work! That's not the same!"
"You see her almost every day."
"Yeah and it hasn't been a problem yet."
"And you want it to be?"
"It won't be!" I yelled throwing my arms up.
"You don't know that."
"William I do!"
"Hun, you might think so but you never know." Kasperi said already sick of this fight.
"How many people have I been near? How much human blood around me constantly for work? And I've never once even considered hurting someone. I know you guys asked Mitch so you know that. It has never crossed my mind to attack anyone. I'm around thousands of humans every day and I've never even considered hurting one and you're going to sit here pissy with me because I want to have my best friends over for dinner? Fucking bite me William."
"He already did." Kasperi said snickering. I shot him a look and he stopped fast though.
"You want to know what I think?"
"Not really but I'm sure you're going to tell me."
"Stop being such a fucking bitch." I yelled at him incredulously.
"You first."
"I think you're mad that I'm not having a harder time with this."
"What?"
"I think that you're upset that this is easy for me. I think you all are a little peaved to some extent but Will I think you're down right mad about it."
"You think I'm mad that you haven't killed someone?"
"Yes I absolutely do. I'm not talking about this anymore though. I have a dinner to make. If you can't have a pleasant fucking attitude you can make yourself scarce."
"And leave you alone with people? That's not fucking happening. You're not having humans over with no supervision."
"I'm around people constantly, I'm fine."
"But we're almost always there!"
"Oh for fucks sake William what would you do anyway? If I was to hurt someone while you're on the ice. If I did have a split second decision to hurt someone. How would any of you fucking stop me? You're going to go at superhuman speed off the ice in front of 40 thousand fans and camera men to come get me? Who the fuck is that going to help, you? Me? The person that I've attacked?"
"We never should've let you go back to work."
"You guys are so fucking daft. I can handle it William! Just because you couldn't.." I trailed off leaving the room.
"What the fuck is that supposed to mean? He boomed.
"Exactly what it sounded like."
"You know what fine. Fine! You have it your way like always. Me and Kappy will leave."
"Good! Now maybe I can actually have fun tonight!"
"Don't call us when you kill your friends. We aren't cleaning up your senseless messes."
"I wouldn't call you right now for anything to be quite honest." I said in a calm voice. "You could just go back to Mo's tonight for all I care."
"And what leave you here? You have no blood (y/n). That's really setting you up for disaster."
"Man you really don't have any fucking confidence in me at all do you?" He was just silent and I sighed swallowing tears. "Noted."
"(Y/n) come on-"
"Just leave William. Don't worry about me, I'm more than capable of taking care of myself."
"No you're not."
"I was doing just fine before you came into the picture."
"Fine. Whatever. Whenever you decide you're done acting like a child, figure out your own way to Morgan's place."
"Whenever you decide to stop treating me like a fucking child, I will."
He stared at me for a minute before turning and leaving the apartment. Kasperi didn't know what to do. He just looked between the door and me in the kitchen.
"Kappy go be with your friend. I'll be fine."
"You're my friend too."
"Yeah but he's the one that needs his best friend right now. Mine will be here any minute. I'll be okay."
"I know you will. Willy might not have any confidence in you but I know you aren't going to hurt your friends."
"Thank you Kas, now go please. It was nice seeing you."
"Yeah you too." He left the apartment and went down the stairs to catch up to William.
I just focused on making dinner. I was frustrated of course but I wasn't about to let it ruin my night. I was just putting the finishing touches on dinner when the doorbell rang. I ran to the door and opened it to find Amy and Mitchell smiling.
"Hey! I missed you so much." I said hugging them. "It's been forever since we've hung out like this."
"We brought wine!" Mitchell exclaimed.
"Classic. It'll go great with dinner, I'll get some glasses."
"Where's William?" Amy asked coming into the kitchen.
"Off somewhere being an ass. We got into a pretty big fight."
"Oh shit, about what?"
"Money." I said thinking quick on my feet.
"What about it?" Mitchell asked as we joined him at the table.
"Well he's been rich his whole life. I'm just kinda coming into that kind of lifestyle. He's worried I'm going to do something to accidentally hurt people I really care about because he did before. I kind of threw it back in his face."
"Well you wouldn't hurt anybody. Even if there was no other option I don't think you'd hurt anyone." Mitchell said.
"Right?! Thank you! That's what I've been trying to tell him for the past 3 days! Never once have I thought about breaking people's trust or hurting anyone. As if my anxiety would ever even kind of allow me to let someone down."
"I really think that this is just a misunderstanding."
"I know but it really feels like he's almost disappointed that I haven't fucked up yet. It just feels bad. I can't help it."
"Your feelings are valid (y/n)."
"Thank you Mitchell."
The rest of the meal passed by with much more pleasant conversation. Mitchell had gotten a promotion at work, they had adopted a kitten named noodle, and they had moved into a place all their own without roommates. I was truly so happy for them. I hadn't told them my news yet. I didn't really feel comfortable telling Amy in front of other press people. William and I decided to not tell anyone until the half way mark. But when it was brought up how strange it was that I wasn't drinking I knew it was the perfect time to tell them.
"There was actually a reason I wanted to see you guys tonight. I have some exciting news myself."
"Oh shit, must be important to not tell me at work."
"It is. I was hoping William would be here for it but I'm not keeping it from you guys anymore."
"For god's sake tell us!" Mitchell exclaimed with a big smile.
"I'm pregnant."
"No!"
"Yes!"
"Oh my God (y/n)!" Amy yelled and came to hug me. "Can I touch?"
"Yeah of course." I lifted my sweater to show my bumb that had just started to pop.
"Oh my God look at your little bump!"
"I knoooow!"
"How far along are you?" Mitchell asked giving me a hug.
"I'll be 17 weeks in a couple days."
"That's almost half way!"
"I know Amy."
"How could you keep this a secret so long?"
"Willy wanted to wait until the halfway point. But I'm mad and sick of waiting and so excited. I know you guys aren't going to leak it either so I just had to tell you early."
"I can't believe there's a little baby in there." Amy said touching my belly again.
"I know, me neither."
"You're going to be the best mommy in the world."
"Stop you're making me cry!" I laughed wiping my eyes.
The rest of the night was spent talking all things nerdy and baby. We had a lot of fun and they even spent the night. I woke up in the early morning hours to noise on the balcony. It took one breath to realize it was Auston.
"What are you doing here?" I hissed closing the door behind me.
"Hey don't get bitchy with me, I was just told to come here. I'd much rather be in bed with Mitch."
"Then go Auston."
"I wish I could."
"Did Morgan make you come here?"
"No it was Will. Don't get it mixed up he's the one with doubts not Mo."
"I said some fucked up things to him Aus."
"Like what?"
"What like you care?"
"No I'm curious though. He was really mad. He doesn't usually lose his cool like that."
"I told him I think he's mad that I'm not having a harder time with the transition. That I haven't hurt someone yet."
"Do you believe that?"
"I absolutely do. I think everyone's kinda pissed about it except Mo."
"Well I wouldn't say pissed. Everyone is glad that you haven't hurt anyone. Yes even me don't give me that look. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that that kind of thing would absolutely destroy you. I don't want that. No one does. I'd say everyone is more in disbelief or jealous."
"That could be. I never thought of it like that."
"I know you're annoyed but it's just really not fair how easy things come to you."
"Auston things don't always come easy. It seems like it because I only do things I'm good at. I get too frustrated if I can't do something and just give up on it. I'm an anxious mess all the time. Things are hard for me every day. The reason I haven't hurt anyone is because I am so paralyzingly scared of letting everyone down and breaking someone's trust in me by hurting them. That keeps me in line more than anything. The unbearable weight of not ever wanting to let people down."
"That actually sounds pretty shitty."
"It is. And then just to have the people you're trying so hard to please and do good for not trust you even a little bit fucking sucks dude. I can handle shit. I'm going to prove it too."
"How are you going to do that?"
"I'm going to stay here."
"(Y/n) come on that's not a good idea."
"Yes it is. You guys don't think I can fucking do it. I'm going to prove it to everyone, except Morgan who believes in me, that I can stay here and take care of myself as a vampire without hurting a soul."
"Hey man, I'm not going to stop you. I just didn't think it was a good idea based on everyone being so close. As if Willy is ever going to let that happen. I personally think you can do it and should."
"Thank you."
"At least if you do it we'll know where you stand. If someone gets hurt we'll know, if they don't, we'll also know. Being in the presence of millions of people around is going to be like the best test."
"See thank you that's what I think. I'm going to stay here for a week. That's my goal."
"That's a long time."
"It really isn't."
"You're just going to stay by yourself for a week?"
"I don't care if you guys drop by or whatever, I just dont want help or constant supervision. Plus Amy's around and I'll be working. It won't be that bad."
"What about hunting?"
"Auston let me handle that."
"You shouldn't go hunting for animals yet on your own, or at all really. Get the taste of blood before possibly getting yourself sick."
"Auston I don't care. I want to do this. I want to prove to you guys I can. I want you to trust me."
"Well good luck then I guess."
"Thank you."
"I'll get out of your hair. Have fun." He was ready to jump into the alley below but he stopped. "You can always come back if it gets too hard. I know I give you a rough time but I really don't want to see you struggling."
"Thanks Aus, that means a lot." He gave me a small smile and dropped.
I could do this. I was going to prove to William and everyone else that I was strong and in control of myself and my blood urges, if you could even call them that.

Recovery - Morgan Rielly
Request: Being Morgan's gf and Taking care of Morgan Rielly while he is recovery from his broken foot.
Watching Mo block a shot with his foot, I winced as I saw the pain on his face. I then proceeded to roll my eyes and yell at him in my mind as I watched him finish the game. I texted him a plea for him to call me when he could before pacing our apartment. When my phone rang, I quickly grabbed the phone, “Mo?”
“Hey Ellie.”
“Are you okay? Is your foot okay?”
“It hurts a lot, I can barely keep weight on it.” I really wanted to yell at him about playing the whole game but I stopped myself and let him continue talking. “They want to run more tests tomorrow once we are back in town.”
“Yeah, okay. I can drive you. Do you need me to pick you up from the airport tonight?”
“Fred said he can drive me home. Go to bed, I’ll try not to wake you when I come in. And don’t you have a meeting or something tomorrow?"
“Don’t worry about me. Just don’t do anything stupid until you get home to me.”
“I’ll do my best but you know who I am with, sometimes stupid finds us.”
“Tell them if they injure you any more than you already are, they have to deal with me.” That got a laugh out of Mo and that made me smile, I always missed him when he was on the road.
“I love you Ellie.”
“Love you Mo, I’ll see you soon.” Hanging up the phone I cleaned up my mess from the coffee table I had used as a desk while watching the game. Morgan was correct that I was supposed to have a meeting tomorrow but the client had canceled the meeting earlier today, they felt they no longer needed a restaurant consultant. I figured that was a problem for tomorrow while Mo was being looked at, so I got ready for bed.
I was asleep until I heard the door to the apartment open and close before someone trying to be quiet shuffling further into the apartment. I sat up in bed just as the door to our room opened, showing Morgan’s silhouette. “Did I wake you up?”
“I never sleep well on the nights you get home.” I avoided actually answering his question as he walked further into the room, a slight lip as he moved. “Is there anything I can do?”
“Nah, I’m just going to undress and then I will be there to cuddle you. They want me in for tests around 11, is that okay?”
“Of course. The client cancelled the meeting because he feels it is a waste of his time and money.”
“So you will be hearing from him in 3 months?” Morgan stripped out of his suit as he spoke, just letting it lay where it piled as he moved towards the bed. I rolled my eyes and got out of bed, picking up his clothes and placing them in a bag of things to get dry cleaned.
“Based on the little I saw of their finances, it will be closer to a month.” Morgan nodded as he made grabby hands at me as I moved back towards the bed. Cuddling up with Morgan I fell asleep easily after setting an alarm for the morning.
***
I was getting my second cup of coffee the next morning when Morgan finally made his way out from the bedroom, messy bedhead and rubbing sleep from his eyes. “You weren’t there when I woke up.”
“Because some of us can’t sleep until 10 on a weekday.” He gave me a sleepy grunt in reply before getting himself some coffee. “I just have one email I need to send and then we can head out whenever you are ready.” Morgan just nodded before chugging his entire mug of coffee. “Go get ready, I’ll get some breakfast ready to go for you.”
“You are the best.”
“I know, but it’s nice to hear from someone else every once in a while.” That got one loud bark of a laugh from Morgan as he went down the hall slowly. I knew he was still in pain but trying to hide it from me. I made up some food for Morgan and put it in containers just as he came back out, damp hair and looking a little more awake. “Ready?”
“Yeah, thank you for coming with me today. And making me breakfast. And not yelling at me last night for playing while hurt.”
“I really wanted to yell at you last night, but I might do it later based on what the doctor says.” With that we leave and I drive as Morgan eats the yogurt parfait and breakfast wrap I made. The drive was quiet as we were both worried about what the doctors would say about his foot. At the practice facility I waited in the players lounge, answering emails, while Morgan went to meet with trainers and doctors. A few players came in for workouts, Auston stopping to say hello and chat when I had been there for about an hour.
“Any word yet?”
“No, he’s been in there about an hour so I am guessing it isn’t good. He was still trying to avoid putting weight on it this morning.”
“Want me to stay with you?”
“No, but thank you.” Auston nodded before heading out and just as I was thinking about running out for coffee Morgan came out in a walking boot. “How bad?”
“It’s fractured.” Crap.
“How long?”
“We are gonna check how it healed in 8 weeks.” Double crap.
“Um okay, I’m guessing no skating for now?” Mo shook his head and slumped down to sit next to me on the couch. “Want to go home and drown our sorrows in takeout and bad disaster movies?” It was our go to when one of us was upset about something and Morgan gave me a soft smile before agreeing and getting up.
We ordered food on our way home and actually got to the apartment building at the same time as the food delivery so we hurried upstairs with our goodies and settled on the couch for the rest of the day. The only breaks we took were for the bathroom and to answer texts from his teammates.
As Morgan rehabbed his injury I drove him to most of his training sessions, just enjoying spending time with Morgan. One of the most amusing things was at home he would moan and groan the whole time about his foot but with the trainers he gave actual answers of how it was feeling.
It was nice having him home, cooking dinner with him almost every night, getting to go on last minute dates, and not waiting until all hours of the night for him to return from a road trip. Even with all the extra time we were able to spend together I was still counting down until Morgan could get back on the ice because I knew he was dying to get back in the game.
When he got the clearance from the team doctors we were both thrilled. However as he was getting dressed to head out to the game I was getting nervous and he could easily tell. I was sitting on our bed, watching him get ready when he turned to look at me. "What's on your mind?"
"Just the usual voice in my head that pops up when you come back from any kind of injury."
"I promise I'll be safe."
"Promise me if it starts to hurt you tell a trainer, don't push through. I don't want to have to worry that you are hiding an injury."
"I promise." With one final kiss he was out the door and a few hours later I was also heading out to the game. Even with all the worry I knew that there was nowhere else I would rather be when I saw Morgan smiling with his teammates during warm-ups.

It was the first day of training camp; the first day the whole team was back together after the summer off. There were some new faces in the room, some new tattoos on old faces, and some of the guys had gotten bigger over the off season after spending several hours at the gym.
Mo had also gotten bigger over the summer, but it wasn’t because of the time he spent at the gym…
“How many bags of chips did you have this summer?” Mitch asked Mo with a laugh.
With his shirt off, Mo couldn’t hide the extra twenty pounds he put on during the summer. He didn’t intend to put on that much weight in the offseason, but over a few months, the pounds just added up. And he certainly wasn’t fat or ashamed of the pounds, he knew that he could work the extra chub off through training camp and the pre-season. But, for a team coming back together for the first time, they weren’t going to pass up the opportunity to chirp him.
“Fuck off, I’m having a baby.” Mo replied, rolling his eyes at the younger player.
Mitch stopped putting his shin pads on to send a look across the dressing room at Mo. “Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t (Y/N) the pregnant one?”
Auston snickered from his stall next to Mitch and Mo grabbed his elbow pad and threw it at Mitch before throwing the second one at Auston. “I’m allowed to put on baby weight.”
“Again,” Mitch repeated, throwing both elbow pads back at Mo, “you aren’t pregnant.”
“Yeah, but my wife is and that means that I spent my summer in bed eating ice cream with her while watching sad movies and letting her cry into my chest.” He explained, continuing to put his equipment on. “And she put on some baby weight and looked great, but she didn’t think so and then she cried, and she cried harder when I kept going to the gym, so I stopped going as frequently and ate a lot of chips and ice cream with her and leave me alone. (Y/N) said I looked hot.”
A few of the other guys laughed at his comment and Freddie decided to step in and save Mo from any more hassle from the younger guys. “How is (Y/N) doing these days?”
Mo smiled. “She’s good, really good. She’s six months now and looking amazing. The baby is doing good, too. The doc says the baby is healthy, kicks a lot, which is a super incredible feeling.”
“From the lack of pronouns I’m guess you don’t know the gender?” Hyman commented.
Mo nodded. “Yeah, we decided to keep it a surprise.”
“Because the baby wasn’t enough of a surprise itself…” Mitch mumbled before moving on to something else so Mo wouldn’t throw more gross equipment at him. “When are we going to see (Y/N)? We, or at least I, haven’t seen her in months.”
“I don’t know; she probably won’t be at the arena till the pre-season.”
“Did you just tell us that we aren’t invited over to your place anymore?” Auston interrupted.
“I…” Mo tried, but failed.
“We can’t hang out anymore?” Willy added, his offence mimicking Auston’s.
Mo sighed. “Of course we can still hang out, but just not as much. I have to put the nursery together and then the baby is actually going to be here and I can’t exactly host chel tournaments with a newborn.”
“He’s got a point.” Freddie defended to the younger players.
“Thank you,” Mo nodded to Fred.
“We can help with the nursery.” Auston offered, nodding his head towards Mitch, Willy and Kappy.
“That would actually be really helpful. I need Willy’s help with the crib.”
Will furrowed his brows. “Why me specifically?”
“The IKEA instructions are in Swedish.” Mo laughed causing the other guys to laugh too.
Will sighed and nodded. “Yeah… I’ll help you with the crib…”
