Avalanche | Dhani & Veritty
@witchyveritty
The end of the summer break couldn’t stop Veritty from reading even more books then the usual when the school year was on. Now, she had the privilege of choosing herself with what kind of readings to distract her mind for the last time, while still learning something that could be of help. Both of her professors had given her enough reading materials for the summer too and all of this books were piled up into her room, yet still she had found herself once again visiting the vast library and heading out with a bunch of books on all kinds of witchcraft. If not anything else, this place had huge amount of books she just wasn’t able to devour in time for her graduation and with the craziness that stood behind her recent movement from her suits to the new home she had partly purchased, the place surely needed a few books to keep her busy when she needed to.
Then, naturally, the big books were difficult to be carried and a little to none obstacle was enough to ruin her concentration, so when one of the books slipped, or more likely was knocked off by someone else, and dropped onto the ground, one not so lady like curse slipped from her scarlet red lips. To be honest, she didn’t expect anyone to try and pick up the huge grimoar once they see is for what it really was. Even if she was a Mistress a lot of slaves felt scared by how dark and twisted her reading materials were. “What the hell happened?”, asked V, while huffing away one red strand of hair that had fallen in front of her eyes, since her hands were occupied with the books. One look at the man who too tried to pick up a load of fallen books and the witch realized that she knew him. Vaguely, but still.
Hearing the other voice who had clearly observed his folly, Dhani glanced to her, denoting the annoyance in just witnessing the debacle. It was better safe than sorry. He’d been here long enough to learn that even the most innocuous of flippantry could get you knocked on your ass, put in a horrific rental, or worse yet, put your friends in trouble. He didn’t have to see his best friend’s arm break again over him trying to reason with a angry vampire. Dhani took a deep breath, turning the books the right way round into the pile building in his arms.
“Sorry, mistress. Just... poor stacking. Sorry if I disturbed your studying.”
He glanced to the books in her hand, his eyes lingering there to read the titles quickly for a moment. She was not one to get on the bad side of, obviously.

Dhani was five feet, eight inches tall. He was never bothered about being short before, not really. He’d get picked on at school, and he’d been a small kid. He got bothered by the boys who were mean enough to shove him in line during lunch because he was short, but never by actually being short.
Looking at the top shelf of the stack of books laid out of place and sideways was making him wish he was just a little taller. Dhani looked down the row for a step stool, but didn’t see one. He was feeling impatient, and he’d used the bottom shelf in the library before as a quick step for a book he needed to grab. If he could snag the bottom book on the stack he could probably catch the rest.
He hopped up, not keeping his weight on the bottom shelf for too long, grabbing the bottom book, the one he could reach even with the help up, but it was heavier and bigger than he’d expected. The five other books on top of it promptly slid off, falling on his head and shoulders as he hopped down, using his arms to shield the irritating and stinging impact of sharp corners and blunt sides.
“Ow! Shit! Balls!” Dhani grumbled at the avalanche of books. He sighed, annoyed, mostly at himself. And picked up the books.
