K (oc), Sam, Ava and Luke

I wanted to draw them doing just regular stuff- u know, as completely normal teenagers

K - she is playing guitar (at first I wanted her to bassist but it would be too cliché have overly sassy and edgy character playing bass lol)… I think after getting her shit and mental health together she would go back to her hobbies she used to do before becoming vigilante, like I imagine while after being caught by S.H.I.E.L.D. she would become more cooperative thus Coulson would want her to attend the high school (even tho she’s been dropped out for half year) not because he would expect her to be academic weapon but he would want her to normalize a bit and spend time with people her age… she would probably randomly join band of someone from school and realize how much she missed playing music and stuff related to it (now I wanna draw the band, don’t know if they all would be ocs or some other characters from the show, Harry Osborn as bassist tho👀)

Sam - he skates everywhere, all the time, especially to school… and is always late, he could be on time if he used his nova powers but where is fun in that, right? Also he definitely designed bottom of his skateboard… also he only owns vans shoes, that’s my head canon

Ava - bookworm, I just can tell she would love dark romance or fantasy romance books, also I think even tho Danny and Peter both reads lot no one beats Ava, she can finish reading 300 page book in several hours, also I think they all read very different stuff… even tho Ava has resting b face,she is very expressive while reading, like she gasps and giggles all the time… Peter would once read one of her books and he would be so offended by some of the parts like “Is this what you read all the time?” or “Is it even allowed publish something like this?!” but she wouldn’t feel embarrassed about it she would just hit him with “girls who get it, get it✨”

Luke - I know it’s bit stereotypical to give black character basketball as hobby but I think in this case it’s so fitting, but I think he wouldn’t join school basketball team, he just enjoys the street basketball, or just practicing throws at basket during sunset hour while having deep conversations with his friends. I think others would join him regularly , not all at the same time, mostly one or two of them… I think it would be like some kind of therapy for them lol… I think Luke is very good at giving street smart advices, so they would just go practice with him and vent about life to him, probably Sam and Peter mostly… also to add more oc stuff I think K / Solarion would become agent of shield (very “willingly” lol) and she would also attend same high school as team but she would keep her distance from them, but I think Luke would be the fist one to just treat her in more friendly way (or less hostile way than others)and once just ask her if she wanna practice throws at basket just to make her feel more included I guess… she would go, and they would be silent 90% of time bc they don’t really know each other that well(and she is more talkative in group settings than in one on one scenario), but still she would enjoy it

It's been 2 months since Nova was born. Tonight is the first time me and Harry are actually going to be spending some time together without the baby. I was really appreciative about leaving her but when Faith said she'd look after her I knew she'd be alright. Faith has spent lots of time at my apartment and I've spent lots at her house, to keep each other company when the boys are on a shoot, so I know Nova loves her.

I quickly got ready while Harry watched the baby. I slicked back my slightly greasy hair (since I've been too busy to wash it), put on some makeup then threw on a dress with a matching blazer and some dark brown boots. Once I was finished I took Nova from Harry so he could quickly get dressed. Then we got all of Nova's stuff, Harry took some photos of me for my instagram in the lift, got her strapped into her car seat and made our way to Ethan and Faith's house.

When we arrived outside the big black gates surrounding the front of the house I gave Faith a quick text and the gates opened a few seconds later. "Hey!" Faith said emerging from the house and walking towards the car. I smiled lightly "hi!" Her mouth dropped slightly "you look incredible!" She said. A small blush covered my cheeks "thanks." Ethan came out a few minutes later with Olive attached to his hip. "You alright mate?" He said to Harry as he got out of the car. "Yea mate, you?" Harry replied. "Good good. Where's Nova?" Ethan asked. "Oh shit ye!" I said quietly running over to the back seat door. Faith laughed "I've done that before." She stated.

"She'll be fine." Faith said trying to comfort me as I walked out of the front door. "I know, I know, I trust you. But-" I sighed. "I felt the exact same the first time I left Olive with someone else, I still hate it now. Just go and enjoy your night, try not to worry too much." She said kindly. I smiled "thanks Faith, see you later." I said and with that both me and Harry hopped into the car and sped off towards the restaurant.

Once we arrived we headed inside and were taken to the table we'd pre booked, by the waitress who was stood at the front desk. "y/n, she's fine." Harry said as I stared at my phone. I looked up at him "I know." I said desperately trying to focus. My phone dinged "it's Faith!" I said, quickly picking up my phone. "She cried a little but she just fell asleep xx" I sighed "she's asleep." I relayed the message to Harry. He smiled "good now you can stop worrying." He said with a little laugh. I smiled and nodded.

After eating our food, paying and getting into our car we made our way back to Faith's house to pick Nova up. When we quietly entered the house Ethan gave Harry all the bags and he took them to the car. Then I followed Faith up the stairs and into the spare bedroom where Nova's travel cot was set up. I smiled as I saw her sleeping peacefully in the cot. I looked to Faith "thank you for looking after her." I whispered. She smiled "she was so good, we're happy to watch her anytime." She said. I nodded then gently lifted Nova from her cot and moved her into her car seat, thankfully not waking her up.

Once we got home I took the baby into mine and Harry's bedroom and placed her into the crib next to our bed. She stirred slightly but drifted back to sleep as I lightly rubbed her back. I crept out of the room and entered the living room to see Harry sat on his phone. I sighed deeply as I plopped myself down onto the opposite side of the couch and lay my feet on Harry's lap so my back was against the arm of the sofa. He placed his free hand on my legs and looked towards me "I know it was difficult leaving her, I'm really proud of you." He said. I smiled "thanks Haz."

For day 10 of the event, I used prompt 17 and ‘horror flick’ for the original gang of heroes from Ultimate Spider-Man! I hope any fans of the series enjoy it 😊

Horror Flick: Do you like scary movies? If so, which one is your favourite?

Peter loves horror movies. He really does. The more B-grade it is, the more he’ll love it and him, Mary Jane, and Harry often watch some of the worst campy horror movies together, making fun of them and just all around having a great time with it all. He does love the classic Universal monster movies and he loves Elvira.

Luke does enjoy horror movies. He likes vampire flicks but his favourite genre within horror is usually horror comedy. Fright Night is one that really combines the best of both worlds and he’s watched that, and Shaun of the Dead way more than he’d like to admit.

Danny will watch horror movies with his friends, if it’s something they all want to watch, but overall, it’s not a genre that he really likes. It’s not that he finds them terrifying, but more that he doesn’t like the glorification of violence he feels they promote. He’s especially opposed to slashers, which not only have the hyper-violence but also have very misogynistic tones in his mind. He honestly couldn’t tell you a favourite horror movie of his.

Ava is hit or miss when it comes to horror movies. She doesn’t mind them. It’s not her favourite genre by any means, but she has no problem occasionally watching one here and there. She’s been a fan of horror-based musicals ever since she discovered them through Sweeny Todd, but her favourite is Anna and the Apocalypse, which has great songs, a solid love story in there, and great comedy.

Nova does enjoy horror movies and keeps up with most new releases in the genre. He really actually loves those anthology horror series, and he waits for full seasons of Creepshow to be out so he can sit and binge them. In terms of actual movies though, he does still like sticking to anthologies, with The Mortuary Collection being one of his favourites, mostly because a certain story has really stuck with him and because he liked that it had an overarching plot that wrapped up well.

What's new for this series? Are there any new games or updated rounds?

I feel like people love the Buzzcocks format and they would freak out if we changed it. The show is so famous it's one of those that can go on forever and it doesn't matter who's in it.

The weird Mick Hucknall game that Greg is obsessed with is back. He essentially puts Mick Hucknall's picture over someone else's face and we guess who's behind it.

What can you tell us about the guests this series? Who can we expect to see?

The Nova Twins were on my team who were hilarious... and telepathic. They're for young people but I'm quite interested in their music. There's also been Suggs from Madness and Harry Hill, which was exciting. Katherine Ryan was also very funny.

Gregory Porter was absolutely amazing. No one really knew what he was going to be like, because he has that smooth beautiful soul voice, but he was really funny. He pitched it really well. Americans are always good at that, coming in, working out what is going on, then finding the right level and tone and joining in. He is a class act.

What has been your most embarrassing celebrity encounter?

What, ever? Jesus... When I was partying, I had a lot of weird encounters. Pete Doherty bit my ear once. Not off, but he did draw blood. I'm trying to think of things that won't get other people in trouble.

What's the best thing about filming Never Mind The Buzzcocks? What's the worst?

I have a soft spot for the show because I spent five or six years doing it with Phill Jupitus so it's part of my life weirdly. It's always 'Bs' with me, there's some kind of magic with the letter B. Boosh, Bake Off and Buzzcocks. I'm scared to make a show that doesn't begin with B.

I like that it's about music as there doesn't seem to be any other shows out there about music. I love all the people on it so it's easy for me to do. I also like the fact there's an audience because it makes it quite exciting.

You first appeared on the show way back in 2007. What's changed since then?

It's interesting doing it this time now that I'm older. When I used to do it, I would get shitfaced before the show and take the guests out to The Groucho Club and it would end up really messy. I would sometimes even do the show without going to bed the night before.

I remember once I hadn't been to bed for a few days and when I came into the studio, Lorraine Kelly chased me around and spanked me over the desk with a wooden spoon. At that point I didn't know if I was dreaming, or if that was real, but I knew I needed to go to bed.

Another time I was out at a party, and someone had to come and get me and bring me in. Weirdly, they went quite well, those shows.

Now I've got two children, it's more like a cup of tea and then home.

Which of your fellow panellists do you have the most rivalry with?

I like taking the piss out of Greg, but me and Jamali aren't that bothered about winning. We're not adverse to cheating but to be honest we never win so it doesn't make a difference. I feel like we've only won once throughout the whole three series! The downfall is down to us both.

Which panellist is the cheekiest?

I wouldn't describe anyone as cheeky, so maybe that means I am. Greg's quite cheeky, he makes it quite jovial and fun. Daisy is the most ridiculous, and I mean that as a compliment, because she says things you would never think of saying and does things that you can't believe your eyes are seeing. Jamali is absolutely vicious, he can destroy people. He is the most troublesome because he absolutely annihilates the identity parade line-up but that's his thing, he's like a viper. He just sits back and bang.

Who has the best banter?

Me and Greg have quite good banter because we've known each other for quite a long time. We did stand-up together so we're old mates. I love working with Jamali, we're like the double act that no one knew they needed in a bad cop movie.

Who on the panel causes the most chaos?

Daisy. She is chaos. She dresses amazingly though and has been killing it with some amazing dresses and looks.

If you and your fellow panellists were in band, what would that band be called and who would be the lead singer?

Oh Jesus Christ. I'd have to be the lead singer, wouldn't I? Greg on drums. I feel like Jamali wouldn't turn up, he couldn't be fucked, but if he was there, he'd be on bass. I'd have to be pulling some shapes at the front although Daisy could also do that.

If you were in a band, which other celebrities or musicians would you want to play alongside?

I used to be in a band with Serge from Kasabian called Loose Tapestries. We never performed live, but I would've liked to. It was mostly TV soundtrack stuff.

I was also the lead singer in couple of bands years ago, around the same time I started comedy, which were called Smee and Slam Icabod.

I've also done some things with Razorlight. I did a gig at The Royal Albert Hall and Jonny Burrell came on. What was good about making The Mighty Boosh, was that Julian [Barratt] and I could make different types of music but when you're in a band you have to choose one genre. We could do surf rock, electro, funk, and jazz because it was a comedy show.

Who would be your dream Glastonbury headliner?

Elvis would be good, I love Elvis. The Beatles would be good, but don't tell Jamali I said that. Black Sabbath or Jimi Hendrix would be amazing. The Doors as well.

I used to go on stage with Kasabian dressed as Vlad the Impaler and dance around like Bez, a vampire Bez, and one time I went on at Glastonbury. Dolly Parton was on before them, so we chatted for about half an hour, and she complimented my outfit. There must be a picture of us somewhere.

What's your favourite album of all time?

That's a hard one. I'm going to have to say Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones. My mum and dad are full rock and rollers, so I grew up on Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, The Doors, The Stones, The Kinks and Black Sabbath. I like the Beastie Boys too.

When we did The Mighty Boosh we were quite into the Wu Tang Clan and Kool Keith. Lots of rap. Beck was quite big then too. Iggy Pop, The Peaches, Joni Mitchell. I like folk, I like everything.

First gig?

It was probably Status Quo or David Bowie with my parents. It was a good start. I remember seeing Oasis before they had an album out. When I was in college it was the likes of Blur, Pulp, Oasis, and Supergrass. When we got famous as The Boosh, we were hanging out with The Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The White Stripes. Then it all went a bit pop.

No disrespect to pop but it's not my thing, X Factor and all that shit. I feel slightly sorry for the kids. Not that I don't love pop - I love ABBA, I love The Bee Gees and Britney Spears. I love bands though, there's something quite magical about bands.

Five of us would perform as The Boosh - if it went well, we could go and celebrate together, and it would be us against the world. You want to like a band when you're young, don't you? Someone that's a little bit rebellious.

My BigBadCon2024 games/PCs

The Expanse RPG (Phoenix Wu, pilot): This was a good intro to the Expanse RPG system! We played a fun module where our transport ship encountered an automated SOS and checked it out, only for things to go horribly, horribly wrong… I think the system is, hm, not really for me all in all, but I still enjoyed getting hands-on exposure to it!

Dread (Jeanette Harris, stagehand): There was no way I was letting BigBadCon go by without playing some Dread, and happily I got into TWO very different but great scenarios. The first one, The Phantom of Off-Broadway, was mostly a black comedy, and had fictional scenes and songs for the fictional stage show that started going off the rails when the leading lady was found dead -- by yours truly, the stagehand. I had a funny, weirdly mutually-respectful dynamic with the overbearing scenery-chewing elder statesman actor playing the role of the ghost in the play -- not to be confused with the actual ghost(s) haunting the production.

Abyssal (Charlie, bartender/The Haunted): Honestly I don't generally tend to vibe so well with the Blades in the Dark style dice pool systems (as compared to the 2d6+X PBTA ones), but Abyssal does feel like Lara & Ash sanded off some of the ways that those grate on me, and having Lara herself run the game was of course wonderful.

At one point while we were on break I made the comment that any time any game focuses on my character (our goal was a casino heist in 70s Vegas, to fund Charlie opening her very own bar), I'm like 'wait, hang on, there seems to have been a mistake, shouldn't we be paying attention to someone else right now?'

Anyway I do love Charlie and her ghost raccoon buddy Lo Mein though, and I genuinely wish that oneshot would turn into a whole campaign.

To me there's something INCREDIBLY compelling about The Haunted being mostly just a regular alive person who happens to be in close contact with death/ghosts, in contrast to the other playbooks who have been fundamentally changed by some force and are on a slow slide toward alignment with that force. Like, yeah, The Haunted kind of is, too, but mainly just by being on an accelerated path toward the same inevitable end that every mortal faces.

Dread (Cal Hashimoto, exogeologist): This was the other Dread scenario I played, The Fermi Paradox, and WOW it was absolutely stellar (BA DUM TSSH). We played a mining crew landing on a moon of Uranus and discovering some cosmic horror, & what made it great for me personally was a) all the hard scifi nerdery I got to really lean into, & b) the way our character questionnaire answers at the start got tied in to the action of the plot and turned out to connect the different characters together.

Defy the Gods (Dumuz, The Revenant): In addition to Charlie, Dumuz really lives in my head now and I would LOVE to play a whole campaign as them with the table we had. In just the 1 session, we developed a burgeoning PC romance between the Revenant & the Sword, and I got to swing big by using the eponymous 'Defy the Gods' move to defile a temple and humiliate the god who wanted me destroyed (just because I lied to him to persuade him to help me escape the Underworld, I can't imagine why he was mad).

I find the playbooks for Defy the Gods really interesting and creative -- like The Revenant for example being someone who, having returned from the dead, is embracing a whole new life & identity, and who could quite readily serve as a face or expert kind of role given the skills they have access to.

The system reminds me a little of AGON, with the invocation of epithets, and certainly also of games like Apocalypse Keys, Abyssal, and Demigods, where you have a "nova" kind of state you are at risk of reaching whether you want to or not, and there's only so many times you can draw from that well before your character transitions into a whole new state of being.

One of the juicy things about Defy the Gods in particular compared to those others is that almost every single roll is risky in that "flying too close to the sun" way, because for almost EVERY possible move, doing TOO well is actually a worse (but more interesting) outcome in most cases than just barely scraping by.

And, of course, like with Abyssal, it was a delight having this game run by the creator herself as well. :) I'm so interested to see how the system continues to develop.

First People Step Aside!

Saturday 22nd June 2024 – Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The city of Halifax was founded in 1749 when Lt General Cornwallis arrived with over 1,100 settlers and enough troops to set-up a garrison. This action was in response to the French establishment of Louisbourg on Cape Breton Island (where we were yesterday).

Arriving in Halifax today at 8am, Viking Star ‘parked’ opposite the Georges Island Lighthouse, which happens to be an identical twin to the Louisbourg Lighthouse that we never got to see yesterday on our excursion (a) because there wasn’t enough time and (b) because it was shrouded in scaffolding!

Today though, we had booked the ‘free’ Hop-on-Hop-off sightseeing bus.

However, far being the usual ‘Big Red Bus’ type of tour, ours turned out to be on board a fleet of original 1960s London Routemaster buses, all different colours, running at 15-minute intervals all day, exclusively for Viking passengers! We had all been to Halifax before but it was a lovely, almost nostalgic tour with an on-board guide giving the narration.

They make much of the ‘First Peoples’ thing nowadays and about how the land is shared with the local Mi’kmaq peoples, blah, blah, blah – but well they might because that original settlement by Cornwallis back in 1749 was itself in breach of an earlier agreement with the Mi’kmaq actually living here and yet today the population of the city is more than 500,000. I wonder what the Mi’kmaq think about that.

Anyway, after doing a full 90-minute circuit, we headed for a coffee shop and then Sally went shopping while Andrew, Angie & I went to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.

It was an excellent museum, with some fine ship models, including this one of the first Mauretania in her 1930s cruising white.

There was also a featured section on the massive explosion in 1917 that destroyed a vast section of the city when the SS Imo, a Belgian relief ship, collided with the SS Mont-Blanc, a French munitions ship loaded with 4,000 tons of high explosives.

The resulting explosion was the biggest man-made explosion at the time, killing over 2,000 people, injuring over 9,000 and laying waste to a huge area of the city.

It was also by ships from Halifax that, in 1912, the largest number of bodies were recovered and following the sinking of the Titanic. There’s a section in the cemetery here where they are buried.

There were many recovered artefacts on display, including this deck-chair.

A pleasant walk can be had along the Boardwalk from downtown all the way to the Cruise Terminal and there is a wealth of bars, restaurants, shops and ‘playgrounds’ for kids and adults alike.

This private yacht ‘Samsara’ also arrived today and on looking it up, I discovered that the owner is none other than Harry Potter author J.K.Rowling! Available for charter, Samsara sleeps 12 and will cost you $1.1m a week including the crew of 28!

Esperanza Spalding

Esperanza Spalding è cantautrice e compositrice. Voce calda e talento straordinario nel suonare il basso, con la sua contaminazione di stili, è riuscita a mettere insieme il pubblico appassionato di jazz a quello più propenso all’ascolto di rock, funk, R&B, hip hop o soul. Canta in diverse lingue tra cui inglese, spagnolo, portoghese e francese. 

Acclamata dalla critica, nella sua carriera ha collezionato cinque Grammy Awards, un Boston Music Award, un Soul Train Music Award e due dottorati onorari dal Berklee College of Music e dal California Institute of the Arts.

Ha collaborato con artisti di fama internazionale e insegnato musica a Harvard per cinque anni.

È nata il 18 ottobre 1984 a Portland, in Oregon. Cresciuta in una famiglia di musicisti, il suo primo vero approccio alla musica è avvenuto a cinque anni attraverso le lezioni di violino, strumento che ha suonato per dieci anni nella Chamber Music Society dell’Oregon. Durante l’infanzia, a causa di una lunga e grave malattia, ha frequentato poco la scuola dell’obbligo e avuto molto tempo per suonare altri strumenti come pianoforte, oboe e clarinetto. Alla scuola superiore ha scoperto il contrabbasso.

Il passaggio successivo è stato il basso elettrico, strumento che maneggia in maniera egregia.

Ha studiato musica alla Portland State University e si è laureata in teoria musicale e composizione al Berklee College of Music di Boston, dove è diventata la più giovane insegnante, a soli vent’anni.

Ha debuttato nel 2006, pubblicando il disco Junjo. Due anni dopo, ha pubblicato il disco Esperanza.

Nel dicembre 2009, è stata chiamata a esibirsi alla cerimonia del Premio Nobel per la Pace dal vincitore, il Presidente degli Stati Uniti Barack Obama.

La sua carriera ha preso una svolta significativa nel 2011, quando è stata la prima musicista jazz a vincere il Grammy come Best New Artist per il suo terzo disco, Chamber Music Society. Nello stesso anno, ha vinto il premio Jazz Artist of the Year ai Boston Music Awards.

Radio Music Society, il suo quarto disco, ha visto la luce nel 2012. Arrivato alla decima posizione nella classifica Billboard 200, le ha portato il Grammy Award per Best Jazz Vocal Album 2013 e il Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist per il brano City of Roses.

Nel 2013 ha pubblicato il singolo We Are America ​​per protestare contro i campi di prigionia di Guantanamo, che ha visto la collaborazione di Stevie Wonder e Harry Belafonte.

Due anni dopo, è apparsa nella produzione NOVA The Great Math Mystery, in cui ha parlato della connessione tra musica e matematica.

Nel 2016 è uscito Emily’s D+Evolution, un concept album dove prevale la sua anima funk-rock.

L’anno seguente è stata la volta di Exposure. Per questo progetto, ha intrapreso un esperimento creativo a partire dal 12 settembre 2017, con l’obiettivo di creare l’album dall’inizio alla fine in 77 ore consecutive, trasmettendo in streaming l’intero processo creativo in diretta su Facebook. Una volta completato, ha pubblicato 7.777 registrazioni in edizione limitata del disco. La confezione dell’album includeva un pezzo della carta da lettere originale che aveva usato per scrivere i testi e la musica, consentendo a coloro che avevano assistito al processo di possedere un pezzo della creazione stessa, direttamente dalla fonte.

Dal 7 al 18 ottobre 2018 ha pubblicato dodici tracce, una al giorno, che insieme formano il suo settimo album in studio, 12 Little Spells. Ogni brano è stato accompagnato da un video musicale pubblicato sul suo canale YouTube e si collega a una parte del corpo. Il disco, che ha raggiunto il primo posto nella classifica Billboard’s Top Jazz Albums le ha consentito di vincere un ulteriore Grammy nella categoria Best Jazz Vocal Album.

Nel 2021 ha scritto il libretto dell’opera Iphigenia con Wayne Shorter e l’anno seguente è stata l’autrice dell’opera A Good of Her Own Making insieme a Jojo Abot. 

Il 9 agosto 2024, ha pubblicato Milton + Esperanza, con il cantante brasiliano Milton Nascimento.

Nel corso degli anni, ha creato la sua cifra artistica cercando la spiritualità in ogni nota e, senza paura di sperimentare, ha mostrato la sua evoluzione, dovuta alla sua capacità di inglobare diverse contaminazioni.

Scrive tutto, musica, arrangiamenti, testi. È un’artista che cerca sempre di spingersi oltre i propri limiti, che non si accontenta mai.

Dotata di presenza scenica magnetica e incredibile tecnica vocale, è sicuramente una donna nata per fare musica. È musica.
