The weirdly competent Doctor

So! The Watchtower's Medical Bay is a hub of constant Activity. With the number of Heroes who work under the Justice League, there are always injuries, health check-Ups, and illnesses that need healing.

But with the amount of Variant Biologies that those Heroes have, it's always a guessing game as to how to help them best. Some Metahumans react positively to penicillin, but others react like it's their Kryptonite. Some Aliens have anatomy similar to Humans, others are so different you can't tell the Stomach from the Bladder.

So when they hired a New Doctor for the Medical Bay, they had to run him through an entire Course on Variant Biologies and how best to treat specific Heroes. It was long and difficult to remember fully, but it was necessary for him to know.

But then the new Doctor started correcting Them.

"Actually, Martian's react better to the Syrup of Eucalyptus Plants better than Penicillin, since Eucalyptus is very similar to a medicinal plant from Mars which they used in many of their antibiotics."

"I don't think just pumping double doses of sedative is the best way to calm down a Speedster, that could have adverse effects on their body. Perhaps try Psychic Intervention? Their minds move a Mile a Second, but if you can calm them down their bodies will follow suit."

"Of course you use Micro-Doses of Kryptonite to operate on Superman! What else would you do?! I don't know, maybe ask JLD to enchant your Equipment to make use of Kryptonian suseptiblity to Magic? The Kryptonite is just gonna give him Cancer!"

Of course the Doctors didn't take kindly to being rudely corrected by a newbie, and Fired him on his first day.

Then a few days later their usual Treatments don't work, and they decide to give those strategies the Quack Doctor gave them out of desperation.

And Lo and Behold, they work! Martian Manhunter is fully healed and feels much better than the previous times he has needed surgery. Apparently they used a different Antibiotic that worked better with his Biology. Which was incredible, how had they figured it out?

Another Doctor you say? One who was experienced on Martian Biology and Medicinal History? He would very much like to meet with the man!

Something something about all the firefam being infected and needing to cure a part of themselves before they can move forward on their journey and this 2 parter is to get them to that place.

Something about buck being trapped outside - separated from his team and it representing how he’s felt his whole life - separate - the odd one out - on the outside of things - abandoned - nothing he does being enough.

Athena fighting against the system - and trying to do so from within a part of it but it pushes back against her but she hasn’t realised it yet.

Hen - always under pressure - needing to justify her existence because of who she is - a black lesbian - but her team that’s around her help to relieve that pressure.

Chim - the person who takes himself out of the equation in acts of selflessness - unable to save Kevin from afar in the past but can help save Hen here and now - even while infected.

Bobby - the leader but from the sidelines - instructing and guiding but never truly part of things - being the one to perform hens surgery to save her life and sacrificing’ himself to get the antivirus is him getting to be a part of things and have someone lead him for a change - all playing into his doubts about his abilities and skills as a captain - and proving him to be the best captain

Maddie - always having to listen and support from the sidelines - like with Daniel - listening to her parents decision to pretend he didn’t exist and having to support Buck because they wouldn’t/couldnt. She’s just rediscovered her voice and now she’s going to use that power to help save Chim.

Eddie - being absent - a metaphor for who Eddie truly is being absent from his life - not getting to be a child because he was forced into a parental role by Helena and Ramon meaning he was absent from his childhood - when you figure out who you are - not present in this episode - but now he is figuring out what is important to him - Chris and the family he built in LA - and that will lead him to return to LA

Ok this might be a stretch but after act 2 I was so curious to see why Jayce had looked upon Viktor like that

It wasn't fear, not exactly, upon seeing Viktor in a divine sort of position I could only describe Jayce's gaze as awed.

Of course, before the third act came out, the popular theory of "Jayce is stuck in a time loop and has killed Viktor many times before" explained a lot about his behavior but not about this look. Why would he look so shaken if this isn't his first time seeing him?

Now that the show is over I do believe we might have an answer and of course the answer is given to us in this scene.

When Cait mentions Viktor, forcing Jayce to confront that more than Ambessa, the greatest threat to their lives and Piltover is Viktor himself, Jayce thinks back to that first meeting after the time skip.

Of course we know at this point that there was no time loop. This is indeed the first time Jayce sees Viktor as the herald, and Viktor's reaction to seeing Jayce for the first time after months has been distorted in Jayce's own memories.

In his mind Viktor smiles at him. Although he is about to kill him, from Jayce's perspective, Viktor's first look at him after months of being separated is one of pure affection.

During his time in the arcane he was forced to undergo contidions that directly reflect Viktor's own upbringing, but let's not forget he was also haunted by such visions:

Making Mel's image dissappear only to be replaced by Viktor's is extremely symbolic, this is not Jayce obsessing over Viktor and his actions, instead we are directly told that not only is Jayce's relationship with Viktor of the same sort as his relationship with Mel, Viktor is quite literally replacing his former lover.

We could talk about the constant parallels between Mel and Viktor for days, but I believe my last point is backed up even further by propably the most evident mirror shot of the two of them:

appearing again during Viktor's conversation with Jayce:

This is very clearly a POV shot of Viktor from Jayce's own eyes, although it is Viktor talking, the images we see are from Jayce remembering their first meeting which, of course, was fated to happen.

With this established and going back to my main point, I believe upon seeing Viktor for the first time in months, who is gazing down at him with a smile on his face, and after being forced to confront his feelings for Viktor, Jayce looks up at him with love.

This is his own realization that they are in fact meant to find one another in every timeline.

Banging my head against a wall over the concept of Ersher again. Crazy how a single line can add that much more depth. Artemy's already contending with questions of, does he have the right to determine the future of the Kin? Of the other half of town? Of the whole town? And now, he isn't even the original heir. Artemy doesn't seem like a "what if" kind of guy, but if Ersher survived, he'd be the Haruspex; he'd be the one making decisions as the son most likely to become the Menkhu. And for a family that's entrenched enough in cultural traditions, surely that's a weight on Artemy's shoulders.

Artemy's "does it matter?" response is so true in that, whether he's Ersher or Artemy, he's still the Haruspex and the man doing work around town. The title, position and the role matter more than the name. It really contributes to Artemy not expressing his grief very plainly in the game, to stretching himself thin around the town, to his own de-personalization.

And now here I am making assumptions, but the name Ersher sounds more culturally closer to the Kin than Artemy does. I wonder if Ersher more closely resembled Isidor. I wonder if, when the boys occupied the same house for however long that was, they were made into a dichotomy. The Kin-inclined, father's son Ersher and Artemy, whose friends are all from the town and who looks more like his mother. But then Ersher dies, and so does this dichotomy. Now Artemy has to contain them both - or, really, has to choose between one or the other. I wonder if part of Isidor realizing they had to embrace either the past or the future was the death of his son.

(And can you imagine... being Rubin... who has always been Isidor's "second choice," his reserve son if you will, but he's not even that. Artemy not being the original heir makes Rubin feel that much closer to slotting himself into the Burakh family, but he'll never be enough.)

i am never going to be over the number of people who have accused me of being a wang lingjiao stan just because i characterize what was done to her as sexual assault. like... i don't have to either like or defend jiaojiao's actions to acknowledge that her death is fucked up, and that wei wuxian is the one responsible for it. because it was fucked up, and he is responsible for it.

i think it's super important that we can collectively recognize when a shitty human being nevertheless goes through something genuinely horrific, especially if the person who puts them through that horrific experience is, by and large, considered to be a good, non-shitty human being. i think that is an important concept for us to confront within the safe confines of fiction, actually.
