Hello! Last year we did Backtober and it was super fun, so this year we're doing it again!

Just like Inktober, this is just a series of prompts to get your creative juices flowing (except everything should be Backrooms themed).

We'd love to see what everyone comes up with!

I saw @thebackroomswikidot has something called “Backtober” this month, and I knew I HAD to participate!  Heck yeah!

Like usual, I will be doing these for the characters of my story Romance The Backrooms, a liminal space otome with 5 main love interests. 

Today’s Prompt: Paradise

Characters: Adiel

Other Info: This is from Adiel’s point of view.  Adiel is a backrooms entity who has been trying to find an exit to the frontrooms that entities can go through.  In this monologue, he is speaking to Carla.

The backrooms is an echo of a world I’ve never seen, a world I want to be in more than anything.  Do you know how long I’ve wanted to go to Earth, how much I’ve tried to search for a way entities can leave the backrooms?  I’ve tried so hard for so long to find a way out, but no matter how hard I search, I keep coming up empty.

Sometimes I wonder if I should give up, and resign myself to the idea that this is my home.  But deep within my heart, that doesn’t feel right.  I feel displaced in the backrooms, like I don’t belong.  Like this place is a strange, distorted dream.

The backrooms . . . it should be paradise.  After all, it’s basically an infinite world, and that means infinite possibilities.

But it also means an infinite number of ways to suffer.  An infinite number of ways for your hopes to be dashed.  An infinite number of ways to see people die, over and over and over again.

I hope I don’t lose you, too.

Hiding Camera Fix- Workaround.

Up until now, whenever the player went under the bed to hide, the camera would switch to another one that is set under the bed from the beginning, I found this easier to do than trying to move the player character under the bed alltogether. The only issue that I faced with this however was that, when the player went under the bed, the first person player character would still remain on the outside of the bed and it led to the monster constantly walking into the player rather than start roaming again. I attempted to do multiple things ranging from hiding the player character , trying to destroy the player character and then having it respawn inside the level but these ended up not working and just giving me errors in the end. With some thought I decided to try and teleport the player character to another location and then just have it be teleported back to a set location from the camera as it would be set in one place anyways.

To do this I ended up disconnecting the bottom part of the initial bed camera blueprint and make a child copy of the entire blueprint renaming it BackToBed1.

Inside of the BackToBed blueprint, the exact opposite happens from the first one.

Using a teleport node as well as grabbing the coordinates. What happens is: When the player gets in the box collision range of the bed they are able to press on E, the moment they press on E then the camera focus shifts under the bed and the player character gets transported to a corner of the map.

In the corner of the map, the BackToBed actor acts as an entirely different collision that when pressed will send the player back next to the bed. I will be using this for all the hiding places inside the game and therefore I will need to create/duplicate the bluepritns and process over and over which may end up looking a little messy if you zoom out of the project but it shouldn't be visible otherwise. If I find an easier workaround to this then I will be switching over to that process but otherwise I will be using this for now as it works.
