“Go Ask Ya Manzz”- N.M

Not my best- don’t drag me.-

"Nick I’m not talking about this anymore. It’s not that big of a deal.” I shouted frustrated as i ran my hands through my hair. Storming up to Nicks room in order to grab my hoodie I left before the party. I kicked off my heels. And graves the all white adidas. I sigh. Ever since me and Nick had been at it since you left the the party — well, more like since Nick dragged me out of the house.

The whole argument was stupid; Nick wasn’t able to keep his anger under control and nearly knocked a guy out for simply dancing with me. Not even in a sexual kind of way.the intentions were harmless; just having fun, like anyone would want to at that stupid party, but seeing as i were there with Nick. He made it almost impossible for me to let loose. “Not a big deal?” Nick repeated, ramming into the room, shutting the door harshly behind him. “It’s a huge fucking deal, Y/N. You were all over him!”

“I was not all over him, Jack. I was having fun, okay?” I was now half way in on if my all white shoes and swallowed by my hoodie. “Grinding on some dick at a club is fun?” Nick questioned sarcastically. “You know damn well he wanted you and you gave into it.”

“What do you want me to say, Nick?That I’m sorry? Tough luck, because I’m not.” You spat. Nick raised an eyebrow, taken back by the words that had passed through my lips. Tough tit, but I meant what i said. I wasn’t sorry; I was having fun. If anyone should be sorry, it should be Him — he was the one who went ballistic over nonsense.

“I can’t fucking believe you” he spat turning and sitting in his bed.

“Well Nick I’m not sure what you want from me, because I did nothing wrong” I state standing up straighter. Grabbing my keys and folding my arms, I went to stand in front of him. “What the fuck is wrong with you. Do you really ever think I’d cheat on you? With him?” This was my way of reassuring him. Not my best efforts. “It was your idea going to that stupid party anyways” i hadn’t wanted to go. Just a movie night is what I was promised. But he promised his friends to go to the party. And I guess I just got caught up in the promises. “You know what Nick? Whatever. I’m leaving” I stated. Grabbing my shoe off my foot and grabbing the other in my hand.

I quickly wanted out of the room down the stairs and past his other boys walking in the door. “Heyyyy!!! (Y/N)!!! What happened to you and Ya Manzzz and the party” a large drunk Zion stumble inbetween Austin and Brandon.

“How about YOU go ask YA Manz?” Pushing my way out of the door.

Some words I wrote in 2015 on the anniversary of Bloodsong of Love closing.

Theater isn't permanent. That is the special thing about it- it's there and it's gone and everyone knows that it's all temporary. A show exists on Broadway or in a backyard in Florida or in the gymnasitorium of a high school in Long Island or behind music stands at Ripley Grier and then it's gone. It's gone after a performance or after a week or after twenty years, but nothing is forever and Every Show Is Your Last Show. The people who are in the room to see any given performance are always the only people who will have been in the room to see that performance and the audience and the creators all work together to give birth to an experience that is singular and magical and happens in real time and then disappears forever.

As a writer who writes shows, the temporary nature of theater is alternately invigorating and debilitating to me. I struggle with it constantly, the fact the this thing that gives me a reason for living is also the thing that frequently makes me want to bash my head against a wall.

I find myself thinking about all this because BLOODSONG OF LOVE closed five years ago tonight, and of all the shows I've done and the things I've written and projects that never got off the ground and the musicals that didn't realize their expected commercial potential,

BLOODSONG is the one that remains constantly on my mind. Not a day goes by that I don't think about the experience of making that show with that amazing group of artists and not a day goes by that I don't wish that more people could have seen it.

My greatest theatrically-inclined dream is that the gang and I get to do a production of

BLOODSONG again one day. It played 30 performances five years ago and as miraculous as that run was and as grateful as I am for it, I still believe the thing deserves to be seen for (at least) a few more performances.

I wanted to put that sentiment out into the universe tonight and, luckily, Social Media makes it really easy to do that. I would've gone knocking door to door to tell people my hopes for BLOODSONG and my feelings on theater-in-general, but I feel like my current New Jersey neighbors wouldn't have cared. And also would've called the cops because l'm not wearing pants.

So, yes. There that is. There is no point and now it's back to work on the graphic design stuff I'm doing to make money (boo hoo whatever) and the script of the show that I'm currently in rehearsals for (theatrical circle of life, yay.) I just wanted to take a moment to light a virtual candle for that musical I made that time that you may or may not have seen. Anniversaries are good excuses to write about things.

‘Boomerang’ OG Martin Lawrence Joins BET Cast For Season 2 Celebration + This Season Is Being Directed Entirely By Women Of Color

Martin Lawrence – who starred in the 1992 classic Boomerang - came out to celebrate the 2nd season of the hit BET series, “Boomerang,” with the cast and crew. Go inside to peep pics from the bash, plus deets on this season being fully directed by women of color.

"BOOMERANG" is coming back!

Last night, BET Networks celebrated the season two premiere of its Lena Waithe and Halle Berry executive produced show "BOOMERANG," starring Tequan Richmond, Tetona Jackson, Lala Milan, Dime Davis, Leland B. Martin and RJ Walker in LA.

Martin Lawrence starred in the original 1992 romantic drama alongside Halle Berry, Eddie Murphy, Robin Givens, Grace Jones, David Alan Grier and more. The movie is a staple in the black community and if you haven't seen it, folks may side-eye you and wonder how you still have your black card.

The Hollywood OG was on the scene to celebrate the show's second season.

Following the success of Lena Waithe’s BOOMERANG first season, the half-hour subversive, smart, serialized comedy that is fielded by romance, friendship, gender politics and more is back for another round.

The original cast are back to deal with the ramifications of Simone and Bryson’s breakup and how it effects the group’s friendship. Throughout the season, each of our main characters: Simone (Tetona Jackson), Bryson (Tequan Richmond), Crystal (Brittany Inge), Ari (Leland Martin), Tia (Lala Milan) and David (RJ Walker) look inward to find out who they truly are while discovering that together, they’re growing apart. Deadline reveals: 

Lena Waithe’s Hillman Grad Productions have set Angeli Millan (The Cleveland Show, Us and Them, The Muppets) and (seen above) Dime Davis (A Black Lady Sketch Show, The Chi) as co-showrunners. Davis, who also worked on the show’s freshman season, directed four of the eight episodes while Tiffany Johnson (Dear White People, Black Monday, Twenties) and Katrelle N. Kindred will direct two episodes each. Kindred was brought on by Davis and is also a member of ViacomCBS’s ViewFinder Emerging TV Directors Program. Boomerang marks her TV directorial debut.

We love to see it.

105: A Chill In The Air

Hello and welcome to Reign The Dress where we power rank the women of Reign based on the power in their dresses. In this episode Ailey gains a personality trait and we meet some new villains. Can’t wait too see who has the most evil-some gowns.

8. Dead girl (unranked last week)

Last place is what you get for dying before the opening credits finish rolling and splashing blood all over your frock. Olivia also seems concerningly unconcerned about this woman’s death.

7. Grier (-1)

Grier still has a critter on her bosom! Later she trades it for an enormous gem that probably symbolizes her gold digging attempt with the pepper guy.

6. Lola (-4)

Was hoping for some love... pentagon this week with Lola/Bash/Mary/Francis/Olivia but alas Lola stayed out of the game this week except to kindly “warn” Mary about Bash’s intentions. Sneaky sneaky.

5. Ailey (+2)

They finally found a personality trait for Ailey other than that cartoon birds sloppily braid her hair each morning! She has a little petty theft problem. Between finally entering the plot and wearing a black dress that is actually both pretty and interesting she gets a solid middle score. Her hair’s still completely nuts though. Bird hairdressers: 5 Ailey: 0

4. Kenna (+1)

Is Kenna’s all white episode some kind of reference to her loss of innocence? Its kind of fun seeing her give all kinds of attitude especially when it seems likely she will soon crash and burn.

3. Olivia (unranked last week)

Why is she the only person on this show attempting a French accent? Is it because she was the best at it? Because its really pretty terrible. Then again, many of the characters are struggling with a simple British accent so it could be true. This girl is the ultimate CW “other woman” and I wonder if it will come with a surprise twin sister on this show too. She ranks this high for successfully seducing Francis even while wearing that horrible blue dress Mary was clearly trying to use to sabotage her. This episode the blue dress wins Gown of Great Evil.

2. Mary (-1)

The Queen of Scotland has fallen. Insecurity looks as lackluster on her as these mediocre gowns. She now has 2 opponents at court and we can’t wait to see how this will impact her gown power.

1. Catherine de Medici (+2)

I tell you this woman gains power from a batwing and a stiff lapel. It’s nice to see her back at her schemes this week. Long may she reign.

104: Heart and Minds

Hello and welcome to Reign The Dress where we power rank the women of Reign based on the power in their dresses. In this episode we finally learn that the other blonde one is called “Ailey” and a villainous plot is uncovered through a suspiciously nice cloak.

7. Ailey (-3)

Oh dear. I guess the episode we learn her name is not the episode she wins her eternal struggle against those birds that braid her hair every morning. Looks like she’s the court jester for now. Bird Hairdressers: 4 Ailey: 0

6. Grier (-1)

She still hasn’t removed the critter from her cleavage.

5. Kenna (-3)

Kenna solidly demonstrates her lack of good judgement by seducing the king while dressed as a distressed woodland fairy. 

4. Shady Prossie (unranked last week)

All she wanted was a nicer cloak. Winner of this episode’s Gown of Great Evil goes to this lady who, to be fair, had a pretty awful cloak before. Hey you have to admire someone who knows what they want and is willing to go get it.

Sweet nurse Lola earns this high spot in the rankings for looking genuinely very good in this hat. She seems too sweet to be a good match for Bash but it should be a fun drama all the same.

1. Mary

This was certainly not Mary’s strongest gown episode. The neutrals really flatten her out but then again so does an abusive fiance. That white dress at the end is literally stellar and it was nice to see her grab her power back. Long may she Reign.
