We are pleased to announce that Daniel Rodríguez has accepted the position of Teacher in the Department of Biblical Studies, effective January 11, 2021. Daniel will be responsible for fulfilling the Teacher responsibilities under the direction of Dean Selvin Monterroso. Daniel graduated from the Universidad de los Andes in Mérida, Venezuela 2011-2016 and has a Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition and will soon graduate from the Baxter Institute with a Bachelor of Theology. Daniel brings ministry experience and a faithfulness as a brother in faith. He and his wife, Marbella have worked as a team in their ministries both in Venezuela and in recent years at Baxter. We are confident that Daniel will be an excellent teacher for this position and a great asset to the Baxter faculty. Amazing and Startling! One year ago today, August 16, 2019, we gathered to welcome our new director of admissions, Ronny Cerrato. Since that date one in this group has earned an university degree, one (plus 2 in his family) has had COVID-19, one has risked it and attended to the medical needs of 100s, four are weekly preaching via ZOOM, five have been unable to return to work on campus for 5 months due to the rigid quarantine, one has moved his family on campus serving as point man to the president, one has distributed 1,000s of food bags to the hungry, two are sheltering in the States due to COVID-19, ... and much more. In these last 12 months the group oversaw the total renovation of the administration and faculty offices, drew up plans for new married apartments and raised over 50% of its costs, increased the student enrollment to its largest number -72, and has overseen the conversion of all classes to an online ZOOM format ... and much more. Professor Lupe Arturo Mayo was interviewed by the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras (UNAH) about “Keys for a Resilient Family.” After graduating from Baxter he was asked to stay on as a member of the faculty. Baxter provided funds for him to get a degree in psychology and a Master’s degree in counseling. Naturally we are very proud of his work. He has done numerous marriage seminars for congregations and conducts the stellar fifth-year Marriage and Family Counseling program. In the last four years we initiated a program where have all entering married couples take Prepare-Enrich, a marriage inventory service. Professor Mayo then provides counseling for those couples. We know that the well-being and success of our students as ministers is dependent on their having good marriages. His theme in the interview, “A Resilient Family,” is so important in the midst of the extreme pressures and stress brought on by the pandemic. During the holiday break Dean Selvin Monterroso gave two seminars. The first one was a youth retreat for the churches in southern Guatemala. There was an attendance of 200 young people. The second was a seminar on "Adoration" in the church of Patzité, Quiché. There was an attendance of about 150 brothers. A blessed visit! Professor Miguel Aguilar has been on medical leave for 3 weeks, but was able to drop by Baxter after a doctor’s visit. Inflamed optic nerves have affected his vision. Hurray Lupe Mayo! Besides teaching classes, directing the 5th year program, and the 4th year internship program, Professor Lupe Mayo spent two consecutive weekends giving marriage seminars in El Salvador. First in San Salvador he spoke to ministers and Sunday School teachers from 20 congregations. The theme focused on strengthening the family from a Christian and psychological perspective. The San Bartolomé Church hosted the 176 attendees. This past weekend, he gave a marriage seminar in San Miguel. 200 attended from several congregations where a number of Baxter graduates are doing excellent work. Now from Guatemala. Dean Selvin Monterroso. Spending nearly three weeks in his homeland, he first spoke at a two-day youth retreat for 95 teens, and then gave four lessons to members from five congregations.
