The Suitors’ Trials

An AU about way too many Bumblebee Ships

Based loosely on a string of different fairytales like The Princess on the Glass Hill, The grateful Beasts, Clever little tailor, how Six made their way in the world and this tumblr post

In this AU Bumblebee is the son of King Megatron of Kaon and his Conjunx Optimus Prime. He is also the younger brother of crown prince Hot Rod/Rodimus and prince Cheetor.

Being the youngest he is obviously the apple of his family’s eye, and especially his sire Megatron tends to be a bit overprotective over him at times.

So now imagine if you will, Bumblebee just being swamped with suitors from all sides. Knights from the neighbouring Autobot federation like Blurr, Prowl, Smokescreen and Windblade and even some of his sire’s own knights like Blitzwing and Breakdown - Heck even his sire’s chief advisor Starscream - start standing in line to ask for the prince’s hand in marriage.

Megatron had nearly died of a sparkattack when the king of the dinobots Grimlock knocked down the door to the palace with a ridiculously large Bouquet of flowers in his hands to join the long row of suitors.

Or that time the former Autobot turned traitor Wasp sneaking into the palace at the dead night just to wake up Megatron and Optimus to demand they’d let him marry their son.

Not to mention that time Steeljaw attempted to break into Bumblebee’s room through the balcony (from which the prince swiftly threw him off of mere moments later) to ask the prince directly to rule by his side.

Megatron had nearly cried of joy when the rescue bot Blades had simply sent a letter to formally ask for Bumblebee’s hand in marriage instead of sneaking (or breaking) into the palace like the last few suitors.

But the situation remained the same. His precious son was swarmed with suitors and him and the guards could only hold them off for so long as the suitors were starting to grow impatient waiting for the king to make a choice.

But of course as any loving father would, Megatron wanted to make sure that his son would marry no one but the best bot among them.

And so Megatron one day gathered all the suitors together and told them they’d have to pass a certain set of trials and tests and whoever succeeded at them all would be allowed to marry his son.

The first task seemed simple enough on paper: Try to climb up a slippery glass hill and gather one of the keys at the top. But the number of keys was limited. So you not only had to manage to climb up the hill, but you had to make sure you were faster than the others too or else there would be no more keys left. This trial already eliminated a few of the suitors.

And this song and dance continues with each trial essentially having an increasingly smaller number of keys the suitors must obtain until the very last trial where only one key remains.

For the last trial Megatron puts the last remaining key around the collar of a cat (or some other small animal or a Bee even) and the suitors must try to catch the animal and grab the key from its collar in order to win the last trial. The catch? Well this small animal is actually Bumblebee himself using the power of fairytale magic to turn into a cat. And the only way to catch the “cat” is not by chasing him but by simply being nice to the cat to gain his trust. Or alternatively gain the trust of Bumblebee himself. I imagine that inbetween attempts to catch the animal and even inbetween the earlier trials the remaining suitors would all occassionally spend some time alone with Bumblebee.

So the remaining suitors, unknowingly are being tested by the prince himself on their personality and compatibility each time they are alone with Bumblebee and whenever they try to catch the cat. So depending on how the remaining suitors treat Bee in his normal form and whenever he is disguised as a cat, Bee decides which suitor is trustful/someone he'd want to be married to. And once he choses he'll allow that suitor to catch him willingly and get the final key

So Tldr, Bumblebee in a sense is allowed to make the final choice himself by seeing how the suitors would treat him/the cat.

I personally have no idea though what the trials inbetween the first and last trial would be or who the final suitor would be and in what order the suitors would be disqualified. If you have any ideas or suggestions hit me with them.

The only reason why Blades eye color is purple because the little sucker took a Scraplet as his second alt-mode. I guess his eyes are purple because he is just like Arachnid who doesn’t have a size and has a spider drone alt-mode. Idk how to explain it

Me, as an unconditional fan of dragons and videogames, cannot bear how awesome this amigurumi doll turned out. Spyro was always one of my favorite childhood games and bringing his amigurumi version to life is absolutely surreal to me. This baby right here already has an owner for my beloved @beeblading has gifted me with it's pattern, so I promised her the first Spyro I did would be hers..💜

More transformers thoughts now that I've watched some of Cyberverse and have been binging Rescue Bots. I'll spoiler below!!

I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY BRUTALLY MURDERED BLURR

Cyberverse: I wanted to watch it cause the style was super interesting but it hasn't quite caught my attention. I'm not super into how much rn it is of filler episodes of Bee just recovering memories, as interesting as they are, it's still filler episodes. These do help raise the stakes later im sure, giving events more emotional impact, and they make the show a lot more casual of a watch than some of the other ones. It did also give us Soundwave boogie which I really appreciated. Seeing bots of all sides being normal folks was really cute like wheeljack and shockwave appeared to work together a lot, probably on just side projects but mad scientists gotta stick together!

The lack of humans is also interesting, cause I'm glad we get to see more Cybertronian culture from it instead!

Istg, transformers shows are going to make me a default Blurr fan they way they keep killing him for no damn reason 💀💀💀 shout out to Blurr fans y'all are so strong

I think I'm going to have to watch more to appreciate it more, so we will see!

Rescue Bots: I have been having A BLAST with this one!!! I think it's super funny with really good comedic timing, and mixed in with character growth that's a little aimed for children but it doesn't feel incredibly surface level. Also add in genuinely high stakes occasionally makes it a good rollercoaster of emotions. Like "wow that was so funny" to "OH MY GODS THEIR DAD COULD LIKE ACTUALLY D I E" cause yeah this is a show about emergency dispatch, shit gets scary often!! So I'm glad they take a serious tone often enough about it.

To no one's surprise, Blades is my favorite. HE'S SUCH A GOOBER!!!! I also genuinely find him hilarious, they give him such good lines. Yes I'm also now a beeblades shipper (whatever the ships called) cause lmao BLADES IS SO GAY. PERIOD.

The Suitors' Trials 3: The Suitors

So my first post for this AU focused largely on the actual trials, the second one focused on Bee’s family and some sweet childhood stories of him and his brothers

So it is time to give a more “detailed” post about the suitors themselves and what lead them to pursuing Bee and why they wanna marry him so badly they willingly participate in these trials.

Windblade: Windblade met Bee when they were both in their late Teens (or whatever the cybertronian equivalent of that might be). Windblade came to visit the court of Kaon as her “first ambassador” mission for Caminus. That is how she got to meet Bee and grew rather fond of him .She'd even go as far and say they are friends. When Windblade heard about Bee getting run over by Suitors she joined them specifically to make sure no one with "darker intentions" could become Bee's conjunx. If you prefer to see Windblade and Bee as platonic friends you can stop basically here and just see Windblade as a concerned friend ready to get married to her bestie simply to make sure no one could hurt him. But I am a Windbee shipper so of course this slowly but surely turns into a friends to lovers.

Blurr: A messenger from Velocitron, Blurr entered the trials purely on accident. He was only supposed to meet King Megatron and tell him that the Velocitron federation would like to offer an alliance between their nations. Too bad just that Megatron could not understand a single word of the message due to how fast Blurr speaks. So Megatron just assumes he is another suitor and the next thing Blurr knows: He is in the middle of some Arena and told to gather some sort of key. Of course as the days and trials progress Blurr actually gets a chance to talk to Bee and also grow closer to him and is for once excited to meet someone who is able to keep up with his speed.

Blitzwing: Blitzwing is one of the knights at the court of Kaon but he has known Bee for quite a while as he and the Prince had been trained in combat together, after Megatron saw potential in the triple changer’s abilities. Blitzwing and Bee throughout their years of training have kept a rather intense rivalry with Blitzwing growing easily irritated by the smaller bot’s evasion skills and “obnoxious personality”. However he also cannot help but develop a deep respect towards Bee’s fighting abilities and that Bee is seemingly the only bot who can handle his three personalities. He would rather be disassembled than openly admit to anyone or himself that he has a crush on the prince. Or at least that used to be the case until suitors from far and wide came to the court just to ask for Bee’s hand in marriage and he felt pressured into confessing to Bee. But Blitzwing being Blitzwing could not confess normally and instead Bee now thinks Blitzwing is only partaking in the trials as another rivalry scheme to one-up the prince, by proving his superior strength to the Bee by defeating all the other suitors.

Blades: Blades first met Bee when they were still Sparklings. It began when Optimus took the young Prince with him to a state visit to Griffin Rocks, hoping that if the rescue bots' sparkling Blades and his son get along it might strenghten the two factions' ties once the boys grow up. Luckily for Optimus the plan worked and Blades and Bee did in fact end up as childhood friends (With Blades developing a deep cursh on Bee). They'd usually keep in touch via letters or calls, given Blades is not really able to leave the island of Griffin Rocks and Bee can't just leave the castle to travel to Griffin Rocks on a whim. When Blades hears about Bee getting proposed to left and right, Blades feels "FOMO" kicking in and he finally confesses to Bee... by sending a formal letter of request to Megatron and Optimus to please let him marry their son! Megatron simply replies by letting Blades know about the upcoming trials and for the first time Blades sneaks off of Griffin Rocks to take part in the trials.

Steeljaw: Steeljaw admired Megatron growing up, thinking of him as a hero who freed Kaon from their oppressors but as he grew up he could not help but view Megatron as a hypocrite who just became a King living in his cushy palace like the previous corrupt leaders of Kaon (comfortably ignoring the part of history where the people of Kaon had voted for Megatron to become their new king and that he had been actively working on rebuilding Kaon since the revolution). Not to mention the fact he married and sired several sparklings with some posh Prime from Iacon. So now years later Steeljaw formed his own “Decepticon” group with the single cause of taking down Kaon’s new royal family and get revenge on Megatron for “abandoning everything he once stood for”. And the best way to do that is by taking the thing Megatron holds the most dear: His precious youngest son. Killing Bee would have been the easiest way for sure but making Bee join him and his faction would hurt Megatron all the more. So leading up to the trials Steeljaw first attempted to sneak into the prince’s bedroom at night through the balcony and ask him to become his conjunx (Bee responded by throwing him off the very balcony soon after). After that he’d attempt to talk to Bee and poison the Prince’s mind against his own sire with varying success. After a while Steeljaw begins to becomes infatuated with Bee as he starts to see something in the prince that reminds him of all the reasons he used to admire Megatron and he starts to become obsessed with the idea of making Bee is conjunx both to still get revenge on the king of Kaon and to have a more “perfect version” of Megatron at his side. Long story short Steeljaw in this AU is obsessed with Bee to a rather unhealthy degree but he hides it rather well on the outside.

Starscream: Starscream is of course none other but Megatron's untrusted chief advisor. Of course joining the suitors in pursuing the young prince, is just yet another one in a long list of Starscream's schemes to overthrow Megatron and become the King of Kaon himself. Because clearly poisoning and backstabbing King Megatron does not work. So why not go the legal route and become the King's son-in-law. But of course though over the course of the trials, Starscream cannot help but fall ernestly for Bumblebee and even considers dropping out of the trials because "Bee deserves someone who did not want to just use him as a pawn in their own game"

Grimlock: The king of the Dinobots met Bumblebee under not so rosey circumstances. While Grimlock was visiting Kaon and its royal family he got accused of a heinous crime and dragged to court in shackles. Everyone present, judge and jury, were convinced Grimlock was the culprit until Kaon’s prince Bumblebee stood up and decided to defend Grimlock and proof his innocence. Ever since then the brute Dinobot king had been infatuated with the prince and also felt like he owed the yellow bot his life and thus was one if the first mechs to ask for Bee’s hand in marriage.

Breakdown: Breakdown would probably be one of the many knights on the court of King Megatron. And he is also the prince’s only friend directly and permanently present at the court of Kaon. Breakdown joined the court when he was in his early teens as a simple helper for the gardener. It was in the palace gardens where he first met and befriended the prince, the two of them boding over a love for racing every time Breakdown was able to sneak away from his gardening duties. As they’d grow older Breakdown would occasionally sneak into Bee’s room through the balcony facing the lush garden and either spend time with the prince or leave him a small gift if Bee was currently not there or being tutored by Perceptor with his brothers. When the suitors started flooding into the castle, Breakdown (similar to Blitzwing) felt pressured into confessing his real feelings for the prince. But unfortunately this man has INTENSE commitment issues so the best he could muster was to leave anonymous bouquet of flowers with a small love confession note on the prince’s berth. So how did he end up joining the trials if he has such commitment issues? Well you got the Queen of Kaon, Optimus Prime, to thank for that. For vorns now he has witnessed the gardner’s not so subtle crush on his sparkling. So Optimus sneakily entered Breakdown’s name into the list of participants for the trials. This is Breakdown’s one and only chance to lock in and committ or to lose everything.

Prowl: Prowl belongs neither to the court of Kaon nor that of Iacon. Prowl is a Cyber-Ninja trained by Master Yoketron. But after an unknown assailant killed Yoketron, Prowl left his home to go on a “pilgrimage”. That pilgrimage was however a mere front. In actuality Prowl began roaming the lands of Cybertron in search of his master’s killer and to train his Cyber-Ninja abilities. Eventually is journey takes him to Kaon where he hears about the trials King Megatron has set up. So Prowl joins the trials not to win Bee’s hands in marriage but because 1) Big events like that attract big crowds of people which in turn offers a great opportunity to Prowl to gather information on his teacher’s assassin 2) even if no new information comes to light trials of this kind are a great opportunity to improve on his ninja skills and techniques. I am not entirely certain yet if Prowl stays in the trials purely for these reasons or if he will develop an actual bond towards Bee as the trials go on and he gets to know the prince better. So i’ll let you fight it out in the comments.

Wasp: Wasp I think would at first join just to mess with Bee, having essentially the polar opposite motivations from Grimlock. In his case he blames Bumblebee for being accused of a crime he did not commit and now that he has been released from Prison he wishes to mess with Bee as revenge by joining the trials his father had set up. He has no real intention (at first) to win. He just wants to get under Bee's skin and these trials are the easiest way to get as close as possible to Bumblebee without committing any crimes. But Wasp over the course of the trials does end up catching feelings for Bee and now has to wrestle with conflicting feelings that were not part of the initial equation.

Smokescreen: I imagine Smokescreen as another knight from Iacon. He is still rather fresh faced, as in he just graduated and had entered knighthood not too long ago. But shortly after attaining Knighthood and arriving at the court of Iacon, he was pulled aside by Alpha Trion. Alpha Trion essentially ordered him to go to Kaon and join the court of Megatron. Because Alpha Trion, no matter how much Optimus claims that his conjunx's army is competent , cannot help but be worried about Optimus and his grandsparklings' safety. And having a knight he had personally trained at their side would bring him some peace of mind. It's also at Alpha Trion's request that Smokescreen enters the trials because again Alpha Trion knows Smokescreen's a capable knight and his precious grandsparkling would be safe and taken care off with Smokescreen as his conjunx. Smokescreen, from the way Alpha Trion had described his grandsparkling, expected Bumblebee to be some whimpy prince and ended up pleasantly surprised when he caught a glimpse of Bumblebee training and realised just how fierce the prince truly was. Ever since then Smokescreen admired the yellow prince from afar but only started to actively talk to him once the trials had started.

Strongarm: Strongarm is a royal high guard at the court of Kaon and thus outranks Blitzwing, Breakdown and Smokescreen. She was also the one to capture and arrest Grimlock when he got accused of committing a crime. But just like Grimlock she ended up highly respecting Bumblebee when she saw him defend the dinobot king in court. So similarly to Windblade she joins to keep Bee from having to marry someone he is not into. Wether or not romantic feelings end up blossoming between them I’ll leave that up to you to decide.

Bumblebee being paired with someone in fandom is always kinda bizarre.

Officially, some modern media has paired him with Arcee, with Devil’s Due notably killing him off the moment he and Arcee are official.

It kinda feels like Hasbro wanted him to date Windblade, but official media opted to make them friends, in a hot transfer student being besties with the dopy nerd student you sometimes see in high school movies.

Fandom wise, they have made BeeBlade/WindBee a thing, while I’ve seen him paired off with RiD15 Grimlock, RiD15 Steeljaw, RiD15 Saberhorn, RB Blades, and TFP Knock Out.

Fandom REALLY likes Bee in a gay relationship with Decepticons.

So it’s pry no surprise that bled into EarthSpark with Breakdown.

Unfortunately like many things, EarthSpark doesn’t properly flesh out this idea of Bee and Breakdown being friends and brothers on opposite sides, similar to what was done with Silverbolt and Blackarachnia, but only with implied homo.

It’s kinda oddly hypocritical. You hype up Nightshade as the nonbinary one, but they apparently weren’t allowed to have an openly gay relationship between Bee and Breakdown, even though it seems like they WANTED them to be gay. Either way fans took it upon themselves to make it the ultra mega gay ship they wanted.

If EarthSpark could’ve gotten away with it, I feel like BreakBee would’ve been The Bro Duet.

Is it a good ship? I lean towards no, mostly due to how fans hyped it up and it clogged my dash for a while to the point I got sick of it. The show’s writing didn’t help either, because they ultimately turned him into a self serving deadbeat that betrayed Bumblebee in a very forced toxic friend special episode. Not helped is the show still frames it as a messy divorce, clinging to wanting to make them a couple but not really….

If you want Bee to be gay (or bi) then give him a boyfriend and commit. Who would be a good fit otherwise I have no idea. Maybe they’ll pair him off with Mirage in CyberWorld, or at least fans will if they see something to work with.
