yep, I’ve seen it 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 I meant it was accidental at first, like they didn’t create the character with autism in mind or anything. and he’s obviously been Very autistic coded since the pilot, and it was always good representation even when it was accidental. so yeah, I was mostly refering to the conception of the character, as he evolved the writers and danny pudi and creative team etc started keeping autism in mind, which is super interesting to hear people talk about fs 💯

what I’m pointing out is how off autism rep usually is when a character is concieved with it in mind. more often than not it ends up the whole premise of the character: their personality, how they function within the plot, etc. (and of course, this is usually due to the writers/creators/actors all being allistic). I feel one of the reasons abed’s character is so strong while also being one of the best examples of representation we have is because he wasn’t concieved as The Autistic Representation™. and obviously there’s a lot of nuance here, and there are some great characters who started out that way, but from my experience usually it makes for pretty static, ignorant, and uninspired writing if that makes sense.

dan harmon being on the spectrum, danny pudi being the great actor he is, the writing/creative team being so open-minded and talented, the conception of abed as a character not being originally contrived from a widley misunderstood label/diagnosis, and so many other things came together to make abed so amazing.

had to say this to a community blog, but abed is literally me, i watched that episode where a gay guy hits on him in a bar while he info dumps to him about his own special interest and i am just here like the soyjack pointing guy at this man like he is literally me (accurate recreation of what is going on in my brain rn below)

first off, great image & the sentiment is shared by many of us on community tumblr I’m sure. ALSO that’s so awesome, something that continues to blow my mind is how accurate some of abed’s little quirks and behaviors are??? they’re so incredibly niche and seemingly random yet somehow hit the nail right on the head???

like in pillows and blankets when they say that bit about “he’s a mastermind capable of incredible manipulation, but also can’t tell his left from his right without singing the star-spangled banner” (that’s not the exact quote verbatim but you get it) I was like ???;?;?$;$;$;$;(! BECAUSE I DID THAT EXACT THING FOR THE LONGEST TIME? (you put your right hand over your heart when doing the pledge.) how did they peg that specific behavior so accurately??? so casually??? futhers my hypothesis that autism representation is almost never accurate unless accidental. but GOLLY gee was it accurate!!! holy shit dude.

anyway I’m assuming you’re on the spectrum too from this ask and thanks for giving me an excuse to rant about these because What The Fuck. glad we’ve all been able to see at least some of ourselves in abed he’s so special to me

1x01: Who Do You Think You Are?

First off, I think the title is great because it really starts off the whole show with the idea of family and connections which is lovely. (If anyone isn’t familiar, there’s a show called Who Do You Think You Are which basically goes through people’s family tree and finds out interesting stuff about their family history)

The first scene works so well by setting up the creepy haunted house, then panning across Julian, Captain and Fanny’s faces looking slightly less modern as the shot changes (and obviously you can’t see any markers of their deaths) to cut to Humphrey’s head and a joke about dying followed by the others pointing out how they died. It’s really the show in nutshell

I don’t know why Alison has that reaction on the phone, it so pointlessly snappy and I feel like she’s never really that rude again in the show. The relationship between Mike and Alison is great from the start though

When Alison is looking at the picture of Fanny in the lawyer’s office, does it say Stephanie on the back? I paused and tried to see closer but couldn’t decide 🤷🏻‍♀️

It’s so great that it took less than 27 years for Robin to learn chess from scratch to the point where Julian is trying to play “best of 20”

The way Pat says “give us something to look forward to” 💔. And the fact that Julian still has all his political speeches memorised? 😢 Plus, I really want to know what Robin and Julian were going to say when the Captain asked about other business since they both had their hands up

Kitty jumping to Thomas’ defence is very sweet, but I absolutely love Julian’s “pfft” of disbelief, and Fanny’s “he can’t still be ahead of his time” is brilliantly savage, especially since they all start shouting moments later. Just their whole sibling/family dynamic is perfect

The whole ‘wrong house’ thing is brilliant 😂

Before I watched Ghosts for the first time, I already knew a bit about it from the internet and had assumed that the Captain being gay was queer coding and/or wouldn’t be explicitly addressed in the show, so I was very (pleasantly) surprised by the Captain’s “he’d make a very fine soldier” comment

“There’s enough faces already” is hilarious coming from the one who’s been there the shortest time, but also very typical of Julian

The Captain actually did a pretty good job mobilising the haunting effort, which he doesn’t usually manage

My favourite part in this episode is the flicking between the ghosts shouting and Alison walking through the empty room. The tiny squeak of the vase at the end just adds to it

“No you haven’t, that’s just the pilot light” 😂

I love that Julian sneaks when he’s literally a ghost

They did such a good job capturing the Tory-ness of Julian, and there are so many times I’ve watched political interviews etc with Tory party members and wanted to yell something like “answer the question, damn your eyes” at them

All of their reactions to Fanny explaining her death 💯

One of the best things about this show is the way they play with your expectations for a scene to make it funny: Alison coming out of the bathroom when it seemed like she had died is well done

Mary’s talks are great, and I think we need more going forward

Why does Alison think they have a man in a suit in their building crew?

Alison’s first reaction to the ghosts is so great with Mike’s speech over the top 😂

Final thoughts: When @wise-elder-idiot first showed me the episode she was very excited to get my reaction to this episode and I had to admit that, while funny, I wasn’t sure it was as great as everyone made it out to be. She convinced me the rest of the series got better after Alison started interacting with the ghosts, and I’m glad she did! I think the episode does a good job of setting up the show and I enjoy rewatching it, even though it’s not a favourite of mine

I do not really care about fashion I guess. I've been writing several stories but still haven't finished either of them really. I despise Math with every fiber of my being.

Ooh, so many tbh but the list would be too long so I give maybe the most prominent ones: My threads with @multi-scrapbook (especially with their Sanguine verse of Izuku), my threads with @iamgroundzero and some of my (discord) shenanigans with @kibouhero as well as with @strxight-up-villxin. I also really enjoyed my (group) threads with @heterochromatica and @multi-scrapbook. @vsagis and @rody-soul also are awesome. I'm sticking to the mha fandom for now.

No communication tbh. I don't like radio silence or not telling me what you don't like if it involves me. I cannot understand what is wrong if I'm not being told what it is.
